And the Iowa City Library wants to give its collection tv nine. A shelter for homeless women dubuque says its in dire need of volunteers to staff an overnight shift. The maria house is a transitial shelter for homeless women who are working to get back onto their feet. That organization depends on volunteers to staff the overnight hours at the shelter. But right now, administrators say theyre dealing with a shortage of people willing to staff the shelter from 8 pm to 7 am. The maria house needs female volunteers who are 18 years or older. Maria house administrator s say the overnight volunteer is last january, just for our overnight volunteers they did about 140 hours. So that was about 14 over nights that they covered. Back in november, a dubuque homeless shelter for men said they had the same shortage of volunteers working the overnight shift. Coming up at 6, hear why shelter Directors Think theyre having such a hard time finding volunteers. The Iowa City Public Library could soon take its mission on the road. The library wants the city council to budget 112 thousand dollars to buy the library a bookmobile. A bookmobile is a bus that would take books to placac like parks and neighborhoods. The Garrison Library has been a second home to dorothy for more than two decades. Thats right shes surrounded herself with books as a member of the library boa since the early 1990s. But where people say dorothy truly shined came following a severe wind storm in 2011. She was there when all the pieces started falling apart. When the storm came and took the roof off of our old library, it was devastating. I didnt want to see us not have a library, thats why i pushed and pushed and wouldnt give up for our new library. Many doubted that dorothy and the Library Board could raise the money needed for the new library. The Library Board said our lives would be so much easier if we just disbanded and forgot about this project, but dorothy would always make us believe we could do it. And they did it dollar by to build a brand new library. With only a little help from the insurance money from the old library they held spaghetti dinners, wrote grants, sold sweatshirts, asked businesses for donations and organized silent auctions.
