Numbers this fall is faster growth than expected. College community projected an extra 90 students this fall. They enrolled 146 so the question is whether thats a one year blip or if they have to plan for even faster growth. Growth is not new at this suburban cedar rapids district with College Community numbers increasing from about 35hundred students in 2002 to 56hundred todayy the district has typically built either a new school or a major expansion every five or six years. But the biggerthan expected growth has some here wondering if theyll nefd to speed up expansion to meet the needs in a nottoo distant future. I dont think you can say one year is a trend. But well look very closely at next year and the following if you get two or three years of above expected growth then id say its a real trend the district opened a New Elementary School last year so theres not as much space pressure in the lower grades. But the high school was designed for aboutta thousand studentt. Theres 11hundred here now and probably 12 hundred next year so the district will have to do something soon. Back in the spring of 2014, College Community voters narrowly defeated a 49million dollar bond issue to expand the high school buildings. The superintenden t says doing something soon probably means going by to voters with another plan to meet the growth this winter. Live in cedar rapids, Dave Franzman kcrg tv9 news. He also wondered what would have prevented other people in freitags department from his home, where he was working on them while caring for his wife. 47 0926 the employees were getting paid, the bills were getting paid.
