A woman gave birth to a baby in a part of the hospital thats typically for the sickest heart patients. Abcs Nicole Estaphan explains how it happened. Shes our little miracle baby. Parents heart swell with pride. Micah weaver and people all around the hospital kind of know who we are. Ezra was born inside the hospitals cardiothoraci c intensive care unit an event thats never happened before. Dr. Marvin konstam, Tufts Medical Center we take care of very sick patients with bad Heart Failure here. Just two days before the delivery jillian weaver was admitted to this Critical Care unit, seriously short of breath her heartbeat, out of rhythm. Dr. Konstam she came to us and so i think even the pregnancy aside, we were very concerned about her. The diagnosis dialated cardiomyopathy. Its a form of Heart Failure that causes the muscle to enlarge, and then weaken. Dr. Konstam and so here she was at our doorstep and we knew we had our work cut out for us. Jillian took powerful medicines to stabilize her heart while doctors scheduled surgery to deliver her baby. Dr. Konstam obviously whatevers going to happen to her is going to affect the baby. And uh, we had both very much on our minds. Jillian i mean, definitely, that was a little bit scary at that point. Naturally while her mother was still in the c tu. Micah she was born in a place where a lot of people go to pass on. And she kind of brought a little light into that part of the world. Both mother and baby are doing well now but it could be months before doctors know whether jillian will be just as healthy as her daughter or will require surgery to implant a permanent defibrilator in her heart. Jillian i guess that was kind of when i broke down a little bit more and realized that this could be something that affects me long term. But for now some of the best medicine could be time sen with ezra and her older sister zoe. Micah just be grateful that everybodys ok and that shes here with us now and shes our little light. That was Nicole Estaphan reporting. As the us works on a trade deal with asia and the pacific, another country is trying to take advantage of our slow movement in washington dc.
