A man faces murder charges after investigators found 2 bodies southwest of des moines in union county. 37yearold Jerry Dillinger now is charged with 2 counts of first degree murder. The Iowa Division of criminal investigation found the body of Loretta Dillinger in a pond near lorimor last week. Investigators believe she was the suspects ex sisterinlaw. They also found another body yesterday this time near a house in thayer. Cedar Rapids Police say a standoff that lasted hours near Taylor Elementary school is over. Officers responded to a person was barricaded inside at a home at 538 eighth street sw around 3 30 this afternoon. Officers had their weapons visible and had closed off at least 3 blocks. Viewers living in the area said that police had told them to stay inside. Police say the person walked out and was taken in dubuque, police say someone damaged portions of the dubuque Veterans Memorial plaza on schmitt island. Police believe a vehicle drove into the memorial sometime between 7 last night and 1 pm today. The damage includes one bench and a pillar, which was overturned. The vermont senator made 8 stops including today in mount vernon at cornell college. Sanders enjoyed bursts of momentum to start his campaign but can he recapture that in time for the Iowa Caucuses in 7 weeks . Tvnines brea love reports. Sanders filled every seat here night all in effort to give his supporters a future to believe in. He entered to a standing ovation, which continued on as he touched on many of his campaign issues. Sanders discussed the economy, education, the working class, and made a special note about veterans. Before he spoke to the crowd, he met with more than a dozen iowa veterans, giving them the chance to share their stories. I am the former chairman of the Us Senate Committee on veteran affairs and if elected president i will make certain that every veteran in this country gets the Quality Health care that they deserve and benefits they need in a timely fashion. Sanders also made it a point to share his opposition against the war on iraq, and his plans to defeat isis. In my view, isis must be destroyed but we must do it in a way that is sensible and that does not lead to unintended consequences. Sanders says the only way to bring change is for millions to stand up, and demand a difference. He says working with the 11 hundred in attendance and other supporters across the country, they together can transform the nation. After years of trying to figure out the best future for waterloo schools, the district may look at setting a formal bond issue tomorrow for a vote in february. The waterloo Cedar Falls Courier reports the board of education will look at a 47 Million Dollar bond issue that would focus on career and technical education. This has been a conversation point with waterloo schools for years. The new programs would be inside a new, to central middle school. Waterloo east and waterloo west high schools would also receive 6 million for renovations. The vote would be held on february 2nd. Dozens of hawkeye fans celebrated the teams upcoming rose bowl game tonight in coralville. Rose bowl officials threw a party at 30 hop, equipped with games, a live dj and a chance to win a set of tickets to the game. Fans were also able to take pictures with the rose bowl trophy. Marj nejdl paints names on ornaments at the National Czech Slovak Museum library in cedar rapids. What started as a fundraiser decades ago grew into a annual tradition marj looks forward to. We thought, as a fundraiser we should personalize ornaments. I think it was about 1975, 76, and weve been doing it ever since. Marj says shell continue to personalize ornaments for as long as she can see and hold a paintbrush. It all started as a way to get rid of items lying around the home. It all started as a way for paula dominy to get rid of some stuff she no longer needed. Tragedy had hit home for us at one time. And i realized it doesnt take a lot to look around and see there are a lot of people in need in our community. So she launched a Facebook Page called pay it forward. People just post a need that they have right now and our hope is that someone will read that and have what they need. Her new friend, tracey lee got on board to help. And suddenly. I get 30 to 40 messages per day for help and for donating. We have this. Thats new right now theyre helping fill requests for christmas presents for small children. This is brand new but on the other side of the computer screen, betty clark and her young Adult Children have received several much needed larger items. Silverware, plates. The toddler bed over there. Rugs, towels. And with my son they helped him get his microwave. When their financial situation improved, clark knew it was her turn to give. Ive donated food. Ive donated new items that i didnt need if for christmas. Meahwhile paula and tracey use their own homes to store donated items. And use their cars to deliver everything. They say thats the easy part. Its the community thats making the donations. Its not coming from me. Its not coming from tracey. Were the bridge. And while theyve only been helping pay it forward for about 5 months. They dont plan to stop anytime soon. It has made my heart bloom so much. Its unreal and i cant stop doing it.
