They do say the shootings happened about 20 minutes and 2 miles apart from each other. Greene who is from urbandale, will make his initial appearance at the polk county jail at 8 30 this morning. Police charged him yesterday with 2 counts of 1st degree murder. Authorities are holding him without an option of bond until todays appearance. A close friend of scott greene says the attacks were completely out of character. Friends with greene for 26 years. The two worked as mechanics together. But their friendship grew after greene left that job in 2004. Now, he says hes struggling to understand what put his friend and father of four on this path. You think youve known someone for 26 years you wouldnt think somebody would ever do this. The Linn County Sheriffs Office says a pickup rearended a car, pushing that car into another pickup. 5 people were in the car that was the second vehicle. 2 people in the car died and the other 3 are now at uihc with lifethreatening injuries. A cedar rapids officer shot 37yearold Jerime Mitchell during a traffic stop near coe College Early Tuesday Morning. Police say there was a struggle and the officer fired a weapon, hitting mitchell in the neck. A brotherinlaw told tv9 mitchell is in critical condition. But he was more alert and watched the world series on tv wednesday. A family spokesperson says they are not endorsing any protests or public vigils connected to hope to grab attention from National Politicians to get money for flood protection. The city spent more than 10 Million Dollars in september to build temporary flood walls to hold back high water from the cedar river. Those did help stop major damage. But the city still hasnt received federal money for permanent flood protection. Mayor ron corbett and other city leaders spoke to louisiana representativ e Steve Scalise yesterday. A Des Moines Police chief says he thinks there was no sense of this, this is calculated murder, theres no if ands or buts about it. It was cowardly in every sense of the word, from the way it was carried out to the way it ended.
