Cedar Rapids Police officers carry the cards around with them and hand them out to Homeless People in the area. Adcraft says it initially printed 10,000 cards two months ago, but printed 10,000 more when they ran out. Police officers say about half of the people they give the , 07 03 37;22 it doesnt help the community so much, it helps the person that we give them to. So it gives them resources for medical care, food and shelter, homeless shelter information, some of those phone numbers that are critical. Shower information, some of those things. The city broke ground on the levee that will protect the newbo district from most flooding yesterday. That levee will stretch from south of the sinclair site to the African American museum of iowa. It will eliminate the need for many of the hesco barriers that helped protect the area from last months flood. Cedar rapids mayor ron corbett says this project is just the start. Its a its the lowest area of town and when we finish this, well move over and protect Czech Village the city says the levee will hold back water of a cedar river level of up to 20 feet the flooding last month reached 22 feet. It expects it to be completed by the end of next year. But the city is still short millions of dollars to complete the full flood protection plan. The Cedar Rapids City Council is looking at paying millions of dollars for flood protection on the citys west side. The Council Agreed to ask for near the river in Czech Village. The city believes the work could cost 4 Million Dollars, and it would prepare the area for a permanent flood berm. Plans call for opening the bids in november. Theres no timetable yet on when work would start on building the berm. Iowas two senators want to know why cedar rapids isnt getting the same treatment as other cities when it comes to federal money for permanent flood protection. Senators Chuck Grassley and joni ernst have sent a letter to the u. S. Army corps of ranks low on a funding list for flood projects. They say the formula the corps uses is flawed because it doesnt give enough consideration to public safety. The senators also argued the city spent about 6 Million Dollars for only temporary flood protection last month. And that could add up, longterm congress has approved funding for the cedar rapids flood protection plan, but the corps of engineers has never included that funding in its budget requests. Britany and eric gormley adopted baby beckett in december 2014. He was dropped off at this clinic on east 14th street in des moines in october 2014 with a note. Iowas safe haven law allows parents of a baby up to 2 weeks old to give up custody of their baby at prosecution.
