The Waterloo School district is hoping voters approve a 47million dollar bond issue. The district would use that money for career and Technical Education programs in a new 35million dollar career center, near central middle school. Waterloo east and west high schools would also receive 6 Million Dollars each for renovations. People in denver will once again decide whether to give the ok to a high school expansion. The district is asking voters to approve a 7. 3million dollar bond issue, which would help pay for a new gym, auditorium, and indoor track. The bond issue narrowly failed in a vote last june. And the springville School District is asking people to approve 4. 7Million Dollars for 9 Elementary School classrooms. Administrative office space. A multipurpose room. But, kelseas butler one of the most important people in her life, had doubts. She said are you sure hes going to be at the mall . I said, yes, he said hes going to be there. Sure enough, he was at the mall that day. That was the first time we met. Kelsea and shane decided to spend the rest of their lives together. They were tragedy struck in attack and suffered severe complications. Too sick to leave the hospital. Hospice is kelsea to take. My mom and i have this special bond that no one can break. Its almost hard to describe. That powerful bond gave kelsea an idea. After nearly losing her mom about a month ago, kelsea decided she was going to have the wedding at university of iowa hospitals and clinics, where her mom is staying. Nat things came together quick, decorations, refreshments hair and make up. What takes some more than a year to plan had to happen in a matter of weeks. It was a little bit of a challenge, but it took a village to do. Jeremy hudson has been a chaplain at hospitals for nine years. He said this is kind of thing is rare. Hes only taken part in one other hospital wedding in opportunity to really have something positive for a family has a lot of challenges. The ceremony went off without a hitch. But the moment that stole the show wasnt this kiss between bride and groom nat it was this one between a mother and daughter. Misty cant speak because of her condition, but she wrote this on a piece of paper and showed it to her daughter. It read, im so glad we went to the mall. Serious charges in the accidental shooting. More on that coming two adults in dubuque face charges this morning. The two are charged with child endangerment after a two year old was shot last month. 25yearold raven harris is in the Dubuque County jail this morning. She has been charged with child endangerment with a serious injury and neglect or abandonment of a dependent person. 29yearold Willie Horsley senior has also been charged with child endangerment. He has bonded out of jail. Dubuque police say on the night of january 3rd, the twoyearold boy either shot himself or another child shot him. Police say the bullet hit the boy in the jaw. He was with his family who were living in a commercial building at 942 main street in dubuque. A waterloo man faces new charges for a shooting on new years eve that injured one person. According to the waterloo Cedar Falls Courier police initially arrested 22 yearold kristopher spates jr on a number of weapons charges. Now theyve added a charge of willful injury causing serious injury for shooting a man in the leg that night. Back on january 1st, police were called to a nightclub around 2 in the morning. Gunshots in the alley between lafayette and sycamore streets. Police arrested 3 people that night. Spates was one of them. Family and friends are remembering Dubuque County supervisor tom hancock. Hancocks close friend, ric jones, tells tv9 hancock suddenly died saturday night. Hancock has been a Dubuque County supervisor since he was elected in 2014. Before that, he was an iowa senator from 2005 to 2013. Hancock had also served with the Epworth Volunteer Fire Department for 45 years, including as chief for 16 years. He was 67 years old. It takes hundreds of dedicated volunteers just to run one animal shelter. The cedar rapids animal care and control says they couldnt do all that they do without them. Cleaning, walking and fundraising. Those are just a few examples of the many things the shelters 197 volunteers take on every day. Volunteers do the things that the staff doesnt have the capability to do like socializing with the animals. Over the past year they put in more than 6,000 hours of volunteer work. If you take a look at the different responsibility we have, and the number of hours in the day, and then the number of animals in house, theres absolutely no way we could get everything done. Thats why webber says these volunteers are crucial, and theyre always looking for more. The shelter asks for anyone 18 and up to fill out an application, and come to orientation. The next one is february 24th. The shelter is also holding a paws for love fundraiser on february 13th at the National Czech and Slovak Museum and library in cedar rapids. All proceeds go to helping shelter animals.
