A Facebook Post from the Johnson County sheriff is sparking conversation about gun control. The post shows part of a gun permit request, and lists the prior offenses of the person who wants the permit. Sheriff Lonny Pulkrabeck says he doesnt want to issue the permit because of all the offenses, but in 2011, lawmakers changed iowas gun law frfr may issue to shall issue. Under may issue, sheriffs could deny gun permits for nearly any reason. Shall issue allows sheriffs to deny permits only for specific reasons, sucuc as alcoholism, mental illness, or past felony convictions. Pulkrabeck says he posted the permit application on facebook to make a point. He says someone with an offense like a no contact order should not get a gun permit. Its just another glaring example of someone who i would not, and i think the general public would not consider a law abiding cititen. Pulkrabeck says he would have to petition for a change in the law to deny such an application. He says he doesnt believe lawmakers will make changes anantime soon, but he hopes they y will eventually reevaluate the gun law. Dubuque countys old jail is getting a new life. A new report shows that families own the majority of us farms but right now, heres a look at todays opening farm markets. Good morning its. Agribusiness report. Im david geiger. Some of the major farm issues of the year are getting their turn in congress as legislators try to finish up a spending bill covering the rest wf the fiscal year. Waters of the us repeal and gmo Food Labeling are still up in the air. As congress is still negotiation on what riders to include or remove from the bill. Some ag issues could be left at the table if shortrterm extensions are proposed instead. But iowa senator Chuck Grassley expects country of origin labeling repeal will at least get done before the recess. He says there are two ways that could happen, both repeal cool. But one offers a voluntary alternative other doesnt. Which of those two will be in the final bill, to go to the president , i dont know but i will support either one of them but my first choice is as canada has done, voluntary labeling. Grassley says he will support a full repeaif necessary. A vast majority of us farms. Are family farms. According to a new report from the usda. About 99 percent of farmland are owned by a principle operator and his or her relatives. Most are small family farms. Earning less than three hundred 50 thousand dollars in annual gross cash farm income. In 2014. Those accounted for 90 percent of all u u farms. 46 percent of farmland. And 22 percent of agriculture production. Largescale family farms earning more than one Million Dollars were about three percent of all farms. But accounted for 47 percentntf the value of production. In the world agriculture supply and demand estimates report. Corn exports are projected 50 stocks are 25 percent higher. Soybean supplies are unchanged from last month. And livestock. Poultry. And dairy total meat production are reduced from last month. And no changes are in hog production. The hogs and pigs report will come out on december 22. That will give more insight into pork producers 2016 intentions. That report didnt do much to affect the markets. Though cattle finally got a sharp bounce. I think the grain market is going nowhere corn is up six cents but corns been in a 20 cent range for quite some time. The report didnt say a lot. Corn had some bullish momentum going towards it. I think it could maybe rally a dimimor fifteen cents. But as a speculator i just dont see the possibility of making really any money in this market. The only bullish grain in my opinion is soybean oil. Due to the fact of the el nino and the extremely warm weather is hurting the palm production palm oil production. Well, ive been sht cattle. Almost limit up today after being down 200 points you might have a short term bottom in place. But its short term, im still not bullish cattle so remain short. But today was just an overdue bounce. If we start to rally a little higher im going to start recommending a short position but the warm weather is very solid. Towards expansion. Im not bullish hogs and im looking to sell on any rally asas im still extremely, and i cant stress this enough extremely bearish livestock and the commodities in general. And that wraps up our show for today. Thanks for joining us on the agribusiness report. I hope to see you again tomorrow. Well post a video every day in the agribusiness section of kcrg. Com. According to the cdc this years vaccine is expected to be around 60 percent effective, up from a aund 20 percent last year. Flu season in the united ` states can begin as early as october and last as late as may. Dudung this time, flu vivises are circulating at higher levels in the u. S. Population. An annual is the best way to reduce the chances that you will get seasonal flu and spread it to others. When more people get vaccinated against the flu, less flu can spread through that community. Flu vaccination should begin soon after vaccine becomes available, if possible by october. However, as long as flu viruses are circulating, vaccination should continue to be offered throughout the flu season, even in j juary or lalar. While seasonal iiluenza outbreaks can happen as early as october, during most seasons influenza activity peaks in january or later. Since it takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop in the body that protect against influenza virus infeion, it is best that people get vaccinated so they are protected before influenza begins spreading in theiei community.
