Lawmakers in iowa want to make sure every driver in the state is insured. The law says if you dont have car insurance, you could face penalties. Some believe it might be one in four. Iowa state senator Jeff Danielson says the current law is passive because people dont get caught unless theres a crash or unless someone gets pulled over. Hes working on legislation to create an uninsured motorist database that would send out notices to people who arent following the law, threatening a license revocation. Its an effort to reduce the number of drivers without that insurance coverage. The Cedar Rapids Department says about 11percent of the total number of citations are insurancerelated. Ui Officials Say 2 students are living in temporary housing after the fire at slater hall this weekend. This morning, minimum wage workers in Johnson County are earning more than the rest of the state. The wage is now 8 dollars and 20 cents. Thats a 95 cent increase from the statewide minimum wage of 725. The new law went into to effect yesterday for the start of the month. Back in september, the countys board of supervisors passed an ordinance to raise the minimum wage. It will happen in three installments. The next increase will come in may and will boost the minimum wage to 9 dollars and 15 cents. The final increase will go up will take effect january 2017.
