Floodings the big story again rainswollen turkey river are either seeing flooding right now or theyre getting ready for it. This follows the serious flash flooding yesterday in several cities, including spillville. Now that waters flowing down stream, threatening other towns. One of those towns is clermont in fayette county. The turkey river in that area rose quickly all morning. And its now about six feet above flood stage which is considered major flooding the highest category. All of that extra water is causing voluntary parks and other buildings. The city has been preparing for this since last night. People living in clermont along with 150 volunteer firefighters spent a lot of time filling sandbags. One husband and wife we talked to said they hope the preparations will help them to be able to save a lot of her belongings. Sot we cleaned out the bedrooms, moving everything upstairs. We had a lot of people coming and help us, so then the Fire Department called and said, hey, its time, were going to bring sandbags. Sandbags are there, i guess more we can do. People from other towns have been reaching out to clermont to see how they can help. And now some of the turkey rivers water is on its way to elgin. The Clayton CountySheriffs Office is closing several gravel roads in elgin due to flooding. Parts of agate road. Abbey rd. Bugle rd. And chariot road are closed. These are all secondary gravel roads in northern Clayton County along the turkey river. Floodwaters are heading to elkader.
