A bill that would have banned drivers from using handheld Electronic Devices failed to pass last weeks funnel deadline. That ban would have included texting while driving, which has been a secondary offense in iowa since 2011. That means law officers can only issue tickets for texting if they pull over the driver for another and some lawmakers have been trying for the last five years, without success, to get lawmakers to ban texting while driving. Kcrg tv nines Iowa City Bureau chief mark carlson reports thats frustrating area Law Enforcement. Its safe to say im very disappointed in the legislature. Johnson county sheriff Lonny Pulkrabek is tired of waiting for the legislature to pass tougher distracted driving laws. Frankly im not sure what they the Iowa Legislature is doing right now.
