Thank you. One person has died after a fire at a house in aurora this morning. It started after 7 30. Aurora fire actually tweeted out this video and our Jennifer Brice is on the scene. Jennifer, i understand you first heard about all this from the fire department. Reporter yeah, thats right. When we got out here things this home. Firefighters confirm one person has died, four others were taken to the hospital with one being in critical condition. You can see how bad this fire is by looking at the cars and the truck in the driveway. Also were going to pan up to the roof on this house. That is sagging, which means it is not safe for firefighters to go inside. The smoke was incredibly thick, dark and difficult to see through. Firefighters say one home where they believe the fire began was engulfed in flames by the time around 7 30 a. M. By 8 00 a. M. Im told the crews were still out here fighting those flames. Firefighters also say it was so involved and hot that the flames spread to neighboring homes. Both the homes to the left and right are also affected. Main structure is too unsafe, so were spraying water from the outside. Until we get the fire out we cant really get going on the reporter people tell me there was a neighbor helping to rescue people inside that home that you were just looking at as firefighters came out here and arrived. State patrol is investigating a car fire that we showed you during its possible the car here engulfed in flames hit a deer and that is what sparked the fire. The case of teenage girls accused of making threats against Mountain Vista high school is back before a judge today. Those girls have been in custody since december. Our jamie leary is at the Douglas County justice center, and jamie, i understand only one of those girls was in court today. Reporter yeah, both being but attending hearings separately. At one point the attorney tried to distance brooke from sienna johnson. The outcome of this hearing could very likely be one of the most significant outcomes of this case. Since they were hired, higgins attorneys have been trying to get her case sent back to sentence would be less severe. She would be given the chance eventually to live a normal life. She and her friend johnson were 16 when they were arrested last september. Both are being charged as adults. The two allegedly had written out plans to kill students and staff at Mountain Vista high school. The only reason authorities found out was because somebody tipped them off. Higgins attorneys argued this is a thought crime at best. Because of the sensitive it has been closed to the public. Theres a total of four days slated for this hearing. It was supposed to start in mid december, but because of scheduling conflicts with one of the witnesses they started day one today. And after today it will continue as scheduled again in middecember. This has been a really, really long process. Both girls are still in custody nearly a year later. Each facing a Million Dollar bond to get bailed out. We are learning how Law Enforcement offices in Douglas County are working with Domestic Violence advocates to protect even more victims. The idea here is to try and get officers to prevent deaths lethality assessment. What we are learning is it becomes very impactful for a Police Officer to sit with a victim of Domestic Violence and tell them that you are in a high danger of being killed by your domestic partner. Its impactful and a powerful statement to hear from Law Enforcement. If a victim is determined to be at that high risk, officers immediately get them in touch with resources and a place. Last year Douglas County had 800 calls related to Domestic Violence. New information about a deadly shooting at the Oklahoma City airport. Police say lloyd bowie was a former Southwest Airlines employee and likely targeted a Southwest Airlines employee. Police say he shot and killed michael winchester. Investigators say he was lying in wait and shot and killed winchester with a suspected rifle. They say its not clear if he in fact had planned to shoot went to the airport. There are more than just airplanes flying around dia. Drones are buzzing in the area and today we will learn about the new testing that is supposed to keep drones away from airports. On tuesday, the faa and Homeland Security started testing new technologies for de teching unmanned airport near airports. What theyre trying to do is make it to where if theres an accident caused because of a drone they can find out who it belonged to.
