It has not left the state. We have plenty of snow in the Eastern Plains but it has cleared from some areas. Western slope, a few flurries, skys are clearing and it is very cold out that way. As we head toward the denver area, not much for us left in the city. We do still have cloudy skies but a little bit of clearing on the east side of town. In the foothills, light snowfall, snow in the high country as well. Headed up north, really cleared along the northern part of i we have snow there in some spots near larkspur. But, the Eastern Plains, this is where we have a little more action out near leader, fort morgan, headed out to holy hook. That is where we have heavier snowfall. We are going to start to clear as we head toward the later evening hours. Eightandahalf inches. Conifer coming in with seven. Idledale with 6. 6. Got about four inches of snow. It is noticeably significantly cooler outside. 20 degrees cooler in denver than this time yesterday. It stopped snowing a little bit, but it is still cold where you are at chris christian. Chris spears. Reporter yeah, we have a few flurries here. It was the temperature drop that really wreaked havoc on the roads. Behind me, i25, good news. Here at ridge gate parkway, a look at this video. This was just under an hour ago, it was a complete parking lot southbound headed from ridge gate to castle pines. It took one hour and ten minutes to make the small two to three mile trip. It was just a very tough time. Back out here live, 25 degrees. We are hearing of some issues in Douglas County in the frank town area. There have been a few rescues at i70 and i25. People taken to warmer places vehicle. Right now, anger an frustration at the airport. This picture is from inside a United Airlines jet parked on the tarmac. The passenger writing you know united has left you on the tarmac a long time. You can see the windows coated wi our Karen Morfitt out at dia. Karen, united says it simply cannot deice the planes fast enough. Reporter exactly jim, that has created quite the mess for their passengers. It seems to be getting back on track tonight. But take a look at the information board. Some of the flights that have not been canceled are now delayed. And not by a few minutes. This fargo flight was set for 7 50, now scheduled after 1 00 evening. Take a look at this video from a passenger inside the concourse. You can see a number of people lined up at the United Customer Service desk trying to get answers from those agents agents or maybe new flights. The extended delays are because of deicing and that some of the equipment operated by their vendor is out of service. Those deicing issues cause several incoming flights to come for a gate to open causing some passen t hours on the tarmac causing a number of cancellations for those threing to leave dia. That was the most painful part. Feeling that we have landed. There shouldnt be really anything delaying us. And yet, it was the most trapped i felt coming on the plane in quite a long time. Because, we are, you know, a few hundred feet from walking off the plane. The landing was okay. It was a little skiddy, then it was okay. Then the pilot comes on, we had been waiting ten minutes and he so we originally thought it was a delay from a previous flight. Then we found out it was canceled so i assumed the snow. But we dont know overall. Reporter now, a spokesperson for united couldnt say exactly how many of their flights were impacted but they did say that they are trying to get all of the planes deiced and get the passengers on their flights as soon as possible. For now, live at dia, Karen Morfitt, cbs4 news. Thank you karen. While the snow has great news for our ski resorts, i70 was a disaster for drivers. Crashes closed the road between georgetown and silverthorne. Then a pileup brought traffic to a standstill at evergreen. Stan bush live along the interstate 4. And what a mess today. Reporter no kidding karen. And two people were injured in that major pileup. We have been watching i70 in the foothills hit vigorously by teams of plows trying to clear long line of cars. It has been a long day up here. And it is going to be a longer night. Traffic through the mountains was standing still when the heaviest snow blew in. It took the most experienced high country drivers by surprise. And then, there was Brenda Carmona who flew in today from los angeles. Somehow, her rental car made it further than even the most heavy duty suv. For some reason, we are the only car that is still moving. Most cars are i asked her what is happening. What is going on. I think they cant move. Reporter when traffic rolled, it looked a lot like this. A 20 car pile up on floyd hill that shut down i70 for hours. Alternate routes add more time to even the shortest drives and plenty of White Knuckle moments throughout the day. It is not easy no matter what you are driving really. You have to watch out for the other people out there. And make sure everything is under control. Big story is the freezing temperatures. The Road Conditions could be a mess in the morning with the cold temperatures overnight. Lauren is back with ed greene with the full forecast coming up in ten minutes. Right now, an update on a deadly fire in aurora. Cbs4 has learned a mother died when the flames raced through her home yesterday morning. The womans son suffered life threatening injuries. Trying to rescue her from the flames. He was trying to bang on the door to get mom. She was in the shower. The paramedics were looking on him frantically trying to do chest compressions. And. All i could do is sit there thinking oh god, oh god, please help this person. Just an awful scene. Fire Department Still determining what started that fire. Attacked by officers having a diabetic episode behind the wheel and the department was having issues. Our jeff todd has been looking into this case. The Justice Department might also be interested. Reporter yeah, jim. Police reports say this driver was erratic and forcing other cars off of the road, but that driver says that his blood sugar level was dangerously low. Instead of police getting him medical attention, they beat him, pepper sprayed him, and tazed him. Police found this car swerving along tower road near 120th. They admit, like, we just went up there. Knocked on the window. Pulled him out of the car to the ground. Boom. Started hitting him in the leg. Reporter this is allegedly a wound from being hit with a baton. This is marks from where he was tazed. They just went straight to force and severe force. Reporter karl is still in therapy dealing with the trauma Commerce City police. It is just poor training. As soon as the emts show up, they recognize the guy has a problem. They immediately Start Talking to him. He explains he, you know, he has diabetes. Reporter he faced three charges, all were later dismissed. Five officers responded to this reckless driving case and tried to help restrain ledhome. Some had life saving awarding from the department. One was ken rd himself . A hoax. He pled guilty to avoid jail time. You cant have dangerous people like that in police uniform. When you have officers doing the wrong thing and the department knows it they should fix it. Reporter officials from the city of Commerce City told us they have not yet been served with this lawsuit. So, they had no comment. As for this investigation, from the department of justice, the first recommendations have not yet been issued. We are expecting those in the next few weeks. New tonight, the owner of a denver apartment complex is facing criminal charges for exposing residents to asbestos during a renovation. Lauren dispirito what happened out there . Reporter the problem started in two of the towers on the complex. Hallways there had been covered with carpet and the carpet blue contained asbestos. Soen hallways, that sent the harmful particles airborne. The owner of a den very apartment complex and one of the exec tyes are facing federal charges after asbestos exposure putures dents at risk. In february of 2014, Health Officials found renovation work at the overlook at mile high caused the Hazardous Material to be released into the air. The residents of nearly 100 units had to be evacuated and moved into hotels. Documents, the Ownership Company, wilmax Capital Management is charged with a felony accused of vie lathing a federal rule by failing to inspect for asbestos. And the executive John Tom Williams is facing one misdemeanor count for negligence in the case. Williams Attorney Says his client is taking responsibility and plans to plead guilty. Earlier this year, the Ownership Company settled a class action 43 people who lived in the apartments at the time of the release. Now, for his role, this executive is facing up to one year in prison and up to 100,000 in fines. His attorney said tonight that to date, no one has been sickened as a result.
