Do still have some fog out on the Eastern Plains, its not quite as bad as it has been, visibility out that direction and not nearly as widespread as it has been as well. And kickoff is at 6 30, 85 degrees, about that for then, and lots of sunshine today. Still have a few clouds out there. Half time well be in the mid 70s, and for your fiveday forecast tomorrow, cold front to crank up just a bit, and temperatures about 75, but were back to those 80s as we head into the weekend. Lets check in with joel. Hows the morning drive going . Reporter we already got a Traffic Alert this morning. Copter 4 in the air has launched for us a little bit early so we could get these pictures for you. You see the traffic moving along the top of your screen from right to left, and left to right. That is pena boulevard right now. So that remains unaffected. But 56th is completely shut down as Police Investigating a there, and i think theyre redirecting traffic onto pena boulevard to get around that this morning. So copter 4, its got a great zoom on it. Its zoomed in pretty tightly as its pretty far away. As it gets closer, were going to continue to share these aimages with you so we get a br images with you so we get a better idea. So 56th, right along here, along pena boulevard, youll have to take tower road if you want to access onto pena boulevard or cross, and it looks like they moved the icon along over it was first at pena blf, so it is possible that they are rerouting traffic onto tower road. As copter 4 gets over that and we get a sense of whats going on, well share that with you. Here we are across the denver metro area, i225, sixth avenue, i70, all nice and wide open, including c470 where weve been watching some Construction North of 285. Heres what it looks like right now, c470 and alameda. As you come up the hill there, starting to see a few more cars out on the roadway. Great drive southbound coming into town as we have speeds now. It is a super bowl rematch. Kickoff 6 40 tonight, big defensive matchup. The broncos are underdogs which, of course, they were in the super bowl, if youll remember. Thats just fine for the broncos. Lets go to romi whos here this morning. I know youre excited. Reporter alan, i cant wait. I think the fans the same its been 215 days since the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers met in super bowl 50, and what is not to like about this rematch . Its the nfl Season Opener and theres plenty of star power. Youve got the league mvp in cam newton on one side and youve got super bowl mvp in von miller on the other, all of this in prime time on a night when the broncos will celebrate their super bowl win one last time. Lets take a look at a couple key matchups in tonights game. The broncos defense must contain ca with 35 passing touchdowns and 10 rushing touchdowns, newton can wreak havoc. Hes as big as a defensive end, runs like a running back and throws like an mvp. The broncos need to keep newton in the pocket. And much like we saw them do in the super bowl, they have to rush with discipline. The broncos also have to block luke keekley. There is nothing this panthers linebacker cant do, especially against a young quarterback. Keekley drops into coverage, stuffs the run and he makes all adjustments. So if youre Trevor Simeon, you have to locate keekley on every play. And while Trevor Simeon is making his firstever nfl start, dont worry, hell be going up against a pair of rookie cornerbacks, James Bradbury and darrell whorley. This opens the door for Wide Receivers sanders and thomas to make the kind of plays we didnt see in the super bowl when the broncos only had two completions of more than 20 yards. So, alan, i its a good thing that the broncos signed penders to a contract extension. I hope hes not weighed down by the big fat bank account hes got to drag around now, romi. What are the keys in terms of the running situation. We know theres going to be a lot of running tonight. Reporter luke keekley is just one of the best defenders in the leek. Trevor simeon will rely on his run game to help him, especially if the offensive line gets rushed, if they get blitzed. So hopefully, not only that, though, were going to see the run game used to block so that his receivers. Because if he can get to sanders and thomas, those guys can have a field day with a rookie cornerback. So the running backs are going to try and block tonight as well. Romi, thanks a lot. Were all fired up about t. You can hear more from romi on cbs 4 mornings weekdays from 3 00 to 6 beyond has a natural grain free pet food committed to truth on the label. Our weather watcher in mesa on the western slope, 48 degrees for us this morning, another beautiful day, and, of course, go broncos. Lets take a look at whats happening with our fog. We do still have some fog out on the Eastern Plains, but it is better than yesterday and not nearly as widespread. Be a warm, sunny day across the state. Eastern plains you may get a few isolated this morning. 89 in wray, 89 here in denver. 88 in greeley and lots of 70s in the high country with 78 in aspen and 90 over in grand junction. For the broncos game tonight, for the nfl village if youre heading out for a little fun and the concerts and the activities, temperatures in the upper 80s. Kickoff about 85 an during half time we should be about 76 degrees. Clear skies, though, today, joel, should be a beautiful day. Reporter we have a Traffic Alert were already following this morning as we approach the 6 00 hour. Weve had copter 4 launch a little bit early to show us these pictures. 56th completely shut down underneath pena boulevard. Traffic being rerouted onto pena blf. But as you can see itself, pena is not affected, but this is a serious accident. We are awaiting word from police on some of the details that are emerging from this and were going to continue to bring those updates to you throughout the morning. Our next update coming up here in just a few minutes. I want to show you where this is at. You can see the closures on 56th underneath pena boulevard. If you need to, you can take over to tower or take pena then on and off of tower to get off this morning, but you are not going to be able to access over pena boulevard, either westbound or eastbound along pena at 56th avenue. Here we are across the metro area, a couple other accidents developing including along colfax and weve got all those closures in place, alan, around Civic Center Park for the nfl kickoff concert. That huge game tonight coming up. First, though, we have people hit this morning on 56th near pena. Want to get right to joel on that. Joel, whats up . Reporter alan, weve had copter 4 over thi Denver Police now telling us the two cars involved in an accident, an auto pedestrian accident which also involves two pedestrians that are in serious condition right now. This has shut down 56th as you get to pena boulevard. Traffic along pena boulevard has not been spheacted by this, but if youre trying to get aroundification r56th, youre not going to be able to access on pena blf. Probably better to take Green Valley Ranch or 40th to cut across, either side there, instead of 56th avenue
