Officials say the path of destruction stretches for 40 miles and more than 600 structures are damaged or destroyed. Weather forecasters say two tornadoes clocked speeds of up to 200 miles per hour, tossing flattening entire streets. The governor of texas says the situation is still volatile across the northern part of the state that is simultaneously experiencing extreme ice and snow conditions and torrential rain. Locality officials sent our four alerts before the tornadoes hit, warning people to take cover. I think that is why we have pure fatalities or victims. Deadly flooding has overtaken many areas in the southern and central plains. Water from the storms has made many roads impassible. At least eight people died overnight in missouri after cars drove into flooded streets. Four of them were International Soldiers based at ft. Leonardwood. In alabama, searchers found the body of a 22yearold man whose car was swept away over the weekend. The water is flowing swiftly and you dont know where to look. Firefighters along the Southern California coast are making major progress against a dangerous wildfire. It broke out christmas night flames exploded quickly and threatened hundreds of homes and some highways. The fire is 75 contained. Officials hope to have it fully contained by tomorrow. A violent weekend for police in chicago. Officers shot and killed two people, one of them accidentally. The deaths come amid rising tensions between police and members of the citys black community. Police refused to release the race of the officer or officers involved. They were confronted by a combative individual, resulting in an officer firing shots and fatally wounding two individuals. Government forces in iraq are closing in this morning on a key city in the fight against isis. Final push to take back ramadi, the city, 60 miles west of baghdad, is reportedly close to collapsing.
