Some shoppers love the thrill of black friday or maybe you have never experienced it, it is a good way to get the best deals early on so you are not stressed out toward the holiday. And as shoppers head out in chicago today, protesters there say theyre planning to disrupt black friday to bring attention to their calls for justice in the shooting death of a black teen by a white Police Officer a year ago. Officer Jason Van Dyke is now facing firstdegree murder charges in the death of 17yearold Laquan Mcdonald. Protesters say they want to demonstrate their anger in a nonviolent way by marching in one of chicagos most popular shopping areas. And now to the protests in minneapolis demonstrators there continued to camp out near the Police Station throughout the thanksgiving holiday. Community groups and volunteers came together to host a thanksgiving dinner for the protesters as they demand justice for the shooting death of 24yearold jamar clark by weeks ago. Secret service had their hands full at the white house thursday. But it was chaotic. Everyone around us was yelling and kids were crying. It was pretty unexpected. Alyx a man jumped the white house fence, triggering a lockdown while president obama was there celebrating thanksgiving with his family. Secret service says Joseph Caputo was immediately arrested and now faces criminal charges. It is so easy to beat the systems of security, ever since 9 11 your cell phone does not shut off, it is still trackable. Robert emily meehan is a little girl with a big heart. Emily meehan i just kept seeing these people on the streets with signs that said, anything can help, please help me. So i said, well, i wanna do something. Robert but where to begin . I said, lets maybe think of something that you could do and be responsible for to help raise money. Robert it turns out emily had a lot of ideas, but her parents helped her focus on two of her hobbies knitting and baking. Make chocolate chip zucchini muffins. I have to even them out. Robert relatives took them to emily meehan they sell very fast. Robert and emily says they need to increase production to keep up with demand. The final step, helping the the profits go to supplies for making hats and scarves. Theyve been able to buy a lot more fleece than they thought. Leslie meehan i will have to recruit some family and friends perhaps to help with the sewing. Robert others at church are interested in expanding muffins on a mission but emily says anyone can do their part. Emily i just hope to encourage people to come up with their own ideas and just show who they are. Alyx emily also designed the logo on every muffin package, and hopes to add other baked goods to the product line soon. Her parents say seeing her do so much to help those less fortunate is a real inspiration to them. Back here at home, and speaking of helping those in need, chucks restaurant in des moines was a busy place yesterday. Volunteers were cooking and packing up thanksgiving meals for familys around central iowa that otherwise wouldnt have one. They made enough for 4,000 people with the goal of having no leftovers at the end of the day. Some meals were delivered, others were picked up or eaten in the restaurant.
