Isu police say Union PacificRailroad Workers discovered the body on monday evening near brookside park. Investigators say the victim is a male student. But they wont release the victims name until the family is notified. Foul play is not suspected. Police were called 205 2nd street and pomeroy around 2 00 in the morning. Inside they found a man dead from a gunshot wound. The identity of the victim has not been released. Vanessa, tell us what the complaint says. Vanessa the alleged incident happened here at the drury inn and suites and back in july. We are just off Mills Civic Parkway at west glen. A complaint field by the aclu says a black transgender woman spent eight days in jail because of her race and gender identity. The complaint says Meagan Taylor is a black transgender woman living in illinois. She and a friend, who is also a black transgender woman, stayed at the drury on the way to a funeral. On july 12, taylor checked into the hotel. An hour to check in her while it check her in while it took other guests just ten minutes. According to the complaint, at some point during their stay, drury staff called police to say taylor and her friend were engaging in prostitution because they were men dressed as women. Because they were men dressed as women. Taylor was arrested and charged with possessing hormone pills without a copy of a prescription. She was held for 8 days in polk county jail and missed the funeral. When taylor bonded out, we tried to talk to her, but she didnt want to comment. All charges were eventually dismissed. This is an extreme and agregious example of the type of discrimination that the iowa Civil Rights Act prohibits. Because it is not the case that being transgender is a crime. Vanessa the aclu says for now taylor wants to send a message to iowa businesses that it is not ok to treat transgender people like they did here at the drury. Aclu leaders tell me they will wait to see what the Civil Rights Commission does before they make their next move. We reached out to drury officials at their headquarters in st.
