No the answer San Diego at Radio dot com The following program was prerecorded this program is sponsored by Jay Jay's landscaping Welcome to the build the show that will help you navigate through the world of construction contractor posts John said . Owners of James landscaping will help you to think like a contractor and make every aspect of your home an investment not an expense now here's your hosts of the build stores John and Derek Welcome back everybody episode 20 of the builders podcast My name is John. Has gone to a special episode today we are the branch and I'll do a little bit of partnerships with some non-profits our main one is strike out for a cause headed up by Terrence Tucker thanks for coming on Terence pleasure thanks for having us on this beautiful Friday. And we've got special guest gave goes to one of the main ambassadors to strike up for a cousin and someone we plan on working with quite a bit over the next few years so thanks for coming on gave me. So let's get in to strike up for a cause a little bit and I guess we can kind of start with kind of your background where you came from and why I started. Well Terrence from San Diego you know a long time fan and just so happy to have the opportunity to work for them since I was 17 years old which is a long time 17 years to be exact actually And as we go in his journey of like who we are why we do what we do you know. I got sucked into. Allowing my job to define who I am and why do you like this is really me you know it's taking away my joy a waking up thinking about what I need to do and what I have to do and I lost excited about my job as a job at the time I was working in the clubhouse as a bad boy Ok And for those who know it's a pretty cool job and for those who also know a dream to of I mean you know yeah I thought so I was in awe as a 17 year old kid walking into the locker room and get into rub elbows literally rub elbows with some of our favorite ballplayers and as the years went on I realized my role you know as a club boss of tennis I was serving others and I bought into it it's it's given me so much joy not just monetary but non-monetary with relationships and community and people and just learning from successful athletes things that help them along their journey but as we got through this whole you know 17 year process I got sucked into I couldn't turn it off you know I can't turn the switch off and every evaluative you know that the fact that there's no job to define who you are despite the dream behind it despite the money that goes with it because it's us that makes it pretty be perceived that way. And that's kind of how strikeout for a cause came about because the guy to my left gave really almost forced me to see literally about put in the canvas or for my face a what my job meant to him. And also I damn like it's pretty deep you know someone who doesn't really know me knows more about me than I did based on a job so tell me about that what was what was that moment. Gave you want to get into your backstory a little bit and how you and your auntie connected of course you seem to go boys well join the military young age 17 year old I'll. 2003. 2 years into. 2 years post 911 and. I made a decision to. Put in the pot give back to my country and. Served about 8 years and. Found Terrence doing his dream job he says. Oh I was down and out of my luck no job homeless and. I relied on my my resume to get me in as a as a security guard attendant but the parking lot at the pub just had you know this is at the end like I said or I thought I might actually I don't want to affiliate of the project and. Yeah from there on. Terence and I. Kept our distance for a while. I guess I was I was I was coming off of the military trying to learn how to decompress and how did leave the warrior mentality behind and pick up the. Father has been and the things that I had been. Yelling at them but I had to kind of put them on they're gone for a while they're actually going to melt that was what I was doing deployments and I was going on you know and that's the secretary that I had to put forth but you crossed paths. Were the projects nice. So that Senator Boren and then you guys met and you invited him out to one of the games right or what was that program that yes I go on yeah so he doesn't do himself justice because this guy. You know I didn't know he was a vet I don't know much about him other than he was willing to help me serve in my way I don't ask many people for help because sometimes the help that I need is almost beneath most people's will you know willingness to do the talking about the end from the outside perspective my job is the dream job and you guys seen the locker room you know I've seen it it's not prestigious in and it's any sense but there's a value to being around that environment so the things that I need for help are as simple as hey you see that stack of towels I need you to fold those towels and it sounds so silly to say it out loud because we're adults that are homeowners that have kids and yet the help that I'm seeking for vet from a vet is for him to do something that seems beneath us so that kind of explains why I don't really ask for help because I know how special those little things are for me as we serve others so when I I was in need of someone to literally help me bringing groceries from my car into the locker room to serve these players food I ask a. Anger didn't hesitate he didn't question it it was like almost like a natural instinct in a sense it was like I got a task I got help I don't care how big how small he literally helped me from there on out with anything I needed to help others I mean anything I didn't question his integrity words coming from because that that day when he was willing to bring up groceries for my car a grown man helping me bring out groceries for my car. And made too much sense that this is the guy who buys into giving to others. Fast $40.00 in 15 there was a classic. 16 I've had the privilege really to work every 3 to 4 years with Major League Baseball in the World Baseball Classic site the Olympics for baseball for professional sports you know get us a Dominican you know Venezuela team Mexico all come together and do what they do best and of course they need someone to provide a service behind the scenes to do what we do best and I needed some guys that I can count on trust to provide excellent service for these athletes and I go through my phone might we're going to get lucky today right this is pretty cool experience I literally have 65 people my contactless right give or take I can call anybody and I scroll down one check marquees and to check mark he's of course 3 he doesn't answer his bad 4th. Day guy goes. Again I'm not surprised with 80 hesitation on their i need take a drug test I need to get a background check I need you to drop everything in anything you planned yesterday for me tomorrow for 7 days straight no questions asked I need you no matter how small the job this and those jobs are small. But then a day where you can go more detail about the World Baseball Classic experience it was so here and send your pet go at the stadium but again Little did anybody or to our Terence's knowledge I was fighting suicide I was I was suicidal at that time as a common. I was a machine gunner for the Marine Corps at the age of 18 I enlisted at 17. So. That dream job that he talks about and those small minute details that he Times talks about me being a bit. Beneath people was exactly what I needed to be going back to. The Earth. Duty though I had to leave my position where I was. At that point to work myself up to secure a consultant but I had to leave that position due to my elements the injuries that sustained and the trials and tribulations I had encountered as a young man. So what that experience new for me was it taught me that there is compassion. Within our humanity if you were to show up you got to show up and that experience was exactly like I needed it it made me. We're going to dog and that was great that's what I needed I mean that's why that's what the military does for you right you have to work from sunup to sundown sometimes 247. For 6 months at a time there's no break I think we ended up putting about 90 hours out that week. Leaving leaving work around 3 in the morning getting that 6 in the morning and leaving at 3 in the morning was for me exciting and also most people would not want to do anything like that I mean they would I don't know but. For me it was like I said it was somebody because I was I was getting on my route I was I was going to go to this day and every day I battle. You know suicide thoughts and depression and and a bunch of things that stem from pulling the trigger at a young age and. It made me rub elbows with other humans that. I would never rub elbows with but. It gave me. A perspective that I will carry with me into the day I die which is why I will stick with Terrence. To day I'm Dad I think it's I mean what you said about just showing up as superpowerful because especially everything that you've gone through and are going through I mean just showing up as what keeps everything moving and keeps everything kind of pushing forward you never know what could what happens when you when you just show up and before we can get into how we met and how everything kind of started what was the inception of striking out for a cause so that when you had this will be a small class a great experience gave me another plug into that story in a 2nd here but when did this the organization itself actually like you said we're going to do this this is no an organization we have a mission we're going to get this all kicked off I'm going it wasn't too. Far after this experience you know because as we're battling all our y. You know providing for our families and you know responsibilities in this life in general. This guy 3 months later 3 months later 3 months later. You know it comes back it reaches back out to to thank me like you know like you know me you know I needed to provide a job for my my my my team my country would everyone call it and you were there you know people came to me. Put together a great team that gave. You know players around the league you know and as you know there's so many people that benefited from him showing up and made me look good. Even expected I just needed somebody to show up and do a job and. Surely after that 3 months later just like everyone else they shoot me an. Email or they write me a gift card or buy me a hat you know whatever it is to say their things and I was like us kind of numb. Kind of embarrassing to admit that. I'm like I'm used to getting like thank you things that to me don't mean as much because I don't need money or I don't really I do appreciate it don't have it wrong I'm very thankful for those gifts and means a lot but 3 months later gave brought me more than something he could buy like he took the time to put together a canvas and write a letter to remind me how special the things that I get to do every day are for other people to myself in my own family and when he wrote that letter and I read it and you know we shared together that moment he doesn't he may believe me but I don't think he quite understands like how significant that really was in my life hit the crossroads of well what are we going to do what's next move you know what's in the next move. Or in this sense I knew the next move is that disconsolate which is serving those who serve us. Painted for a while we play it forward has to come to fruition where we put together something you know substantial and concrete legit to do more for others so you know I got I got to dig into my brain in my contacts and who really want to hear my craziness and that's when Joe Jennings you know my best friend. Him to show up to say what's the next step in. Volved in. Here today. Initially because. We were no longer. Create something that we believe in to. Come back after this short break here but we'll talk about how we met the inception of everything. And. Welcome back to the build your show that gives you insight or perspectives from the real estate market suppliers and everyone involved in the supply chain when it comes to your home here's your host John simple Lou and Derek clearly So welcome back everybody learned a little bit about dancing Gavan strike up because the whole great organization started now kind of taking a step forward I mean just this year a few months ago and how Terrence and I connected and just kind of how that 1st meeting went and how it's evolved into this great partnership between the builders and stick up for because of what we plan to do next so you want to dive into just kind of how long goes that there was going to be 1st me really been and how was that yesterday. I mean how do you want to go as a team and I think it was like 3 at the most $3000000.00 Listen to it 2 months back how did how did leak it connected with Simon. My assistant. Time was just because she had access to my calendar so did she just put stuff in there and usually it's quotes or Usually it's I mean sometimes podcast related production late in there was there was a calendar invite in there to Tucker meeting and didn't say anything to me and I member just in the office were all good and then that's when you and Joey walked in and we just got kicked off from there but what made you reach out to us in the 1st place or how did you can find us it was after j.g. Yes. We had a game and I had a conversation like the day before because as we're building our. You know momentum about what we're doing why we're doing it I'm a gives this gives doing his part you know like what can I do for you gave it gave like there's got to be something that we can do to help you and he's helping me again like our vet our neighbor our brother is doing his part why you do my part and it's hard I mean it's hard to have that conversations like that where you know what can I do to help you and he opened up and he says hey you know way let me let me bring you into my life into my farm in my world to show you what I do and what we could use and help with. Getting I get it I know I can help we can help do his backyard redo it make it a sustainable way. So I should any a partner for this I can't I mean there's so many things I can do about not going to be able to put together you know that planned so I google I google i Cave best landscape or San Diego and Jay Jay's landscaping comes up and say Ok let's see their social media. And I see that Joey follows them and Joe is like Con like stomach my Ok How did that happen I k. So I think that's because we played golf with Joey one time with that. Because I'm pretty sure I remember when I met Joey I guess for the 2nd time because I'm pretty sure remember 4 we played golf. And he was and he was one of the kid one of the foursomes. So here already followed here ready kind of unbeknown to gave me nice conversation on the nose to me during research. Follows you guys because of your work not because he how great you are none of that he doesn't know you guys does know you have Jordan's on nothing. He does really like if you work as he just bought a home he's doing his own little thing in his backyard and he's and I think he's really looking at learning to do his own thing so when I totally broke I called them and I work in sales I've done that for many years and I go to the check off list I want to you know I like to hold a meeting and I don't give out information over on line or e-mails in you know who are always talking with. Said Ok let me run this by the decision maker in the see what he's available like thank goodness that's exactly what I need to hear I need to talk to decision makers about what we want to do and who we want to partner up with to give back to people that could you know benefit from it and help educate our community about the benefits for the company we work with and sure enough it was like maybe like 2 days later we had a scheduled meeting at the office and I don't think Derek wasn't there but you were there and it was like a breath of fresh air. I never heard somebody tell me something that I would say. And he says something that would said someone if I think if I could do that and if you remember that. I sat on your side of the table he called me after you are done talking. About this I think that's the 1st thing they gave I met the other me . Yeah I was where and like it's you're younger to me but age is the number a we've heard that you know use there are a before and it is just a number because we all have our own walks of life and on journeys and you know I remember that night I was fixated on the thought that there's someone in this universe that gets it and if he gets it then there's people of like minded with him on his team that gets it and like we're in the same room right now and. I remember that night I texted you more confirmation about kind of what our background was which we went over before gave me canvas in the letter and you know he responds that it was like a hardy Mozy or something and. That's rare for John. You know lazy when we hold on to the text in the little heart. He love. Is not say I don't think there was any I'm going to. Be out of it but that he but then he does exactly what I would do better and he doesn't do it in a bet any bad intent but he's one up me oh my how do you want me and what I believe in my While it is my baby he shares with me his wife and I and he never once talked about it you never want to brag to body never flexed on me or anything like that he listened he said what he could do to help because that's what he would do if he were able to and he shared with me his why and that's when I got the testimonial saying like aright. These guys whether they're perfect or not are going to do what they have to do to help others and that's when you share it's me your all your prat past experience with your nonprofit ties with Africa and all that and I think I mean because I was like I have said on that side of the table in so many people that that whole I think the why that I shared with you was was that talk that I gave and it was just I love charity work but I also hate charity work because no one does it right everyone just throws money at stuff or throws throw something that's only going to be there for I mean a week maybe and it's never a sustainable way to be able to actually fix anything so I mean that's where we came up with ideas and started this will talk about next just ways that we can actually provide opportunities for other people and provide. Solutions that actually have a means to an end even if we're not around to do it and that's that's the most important thing is that if you're doing something that isn't going to be able to sustain itself or last long enough if your business fails or if you go away or if some happens then it's really not worth doing because then that person is relying on you where they're lying on your paycheck or they're lying on all that as opposed to relying on themselves and that's when I said when you said that just showing up is some Porton because that's just the 1st step to be able to figure out that that you actually have a value whether you see it or not because the best thing that someone can give to someone else is the confidence in themselves to be able to fix whatever they've got going on themselves and whether that's doing something up front or whether that's creating a mission or strategy that has some kind of fruitfulness upfront where you're having a transaction of some sort that needs to be set up in a way that provides something for you so that's where we kind of move quick I mean 1st meeting happened I think a few days later that's when I gave you came in and the whole team and your wife and a few other people came in I believe was there as well let me just talk about ideas and kind of how we can get this done and Derek was tight at this point and and then a few days after that we went out to do your property and just started walking around and see what you have and it's it's the shell of it is just you I mean it's who it's what you started it's what you believe in it's self sustainability it's working on the yard with your family it's creating those bonds in those moments and those memories and you have the harvest in the garden trainings knowledge different stuff where even with the means that you have you're doing everything in your power to show up and give other people the opportunity to show up as well and take the 1st step towards towards where we're going so then a few days later we shot kind of the 1st intro video got a walk through of the property his beautiful fingers on the keyboard and mouse and put together design and that's when Project Home Run started do you want to dive into Project home run or do you want to. We talked about that are right here because. Just like stuck up for cars and you know all these you talk about it stems from what you suck but sustainability in creating something that works for not just our vet but for their community for their neighbors for their future for for a stranger and I mean I would I would play toss it over to Gabe to share with the vision of you know probably call me because I live for to see what day it is. You want to go into a project like that I disliked. So long project home run is. For right now it's going to be a grant given to a. In which that individual can turn around our use my example for example there's a better I believe. Project we're going to be able to do for me is going to be able to give me the platform to open up my farm which is a. Stable sustainable farm sustainable farm. Open up the doors and allow veterans to come in but most importantly to bring their support there's a lot of nonprofits out there that are willing to invest into the veteran and that's great there's several nonprofits are out there that are willing to invest in the veteran and the support from a support group member a wife a child. A ments a mentor an uncle someone but there's very few platforms in which the veteran the wife the children the dog the entire unit gets thrown into the into the hole and that's what Project Home Runs going to be able to do for my community or for the community and I. We're going to transform this this this place into. Sustainable farm where people can come and learn anything they need to know about. Sustainable substance inability to say no what do you have on your farm currently So currently we have 3 pigs 8 dogs. 4 rabbits. 8 fish. Eggs and they're this these really 3 dogs 7 fish now. Yeah and we're waiting on on on the go and a cow so all this is going to be grass fed knows no pests I know herbicides I had a hell of a ride with opiates as a Marine Corps recruiter and. Invoke me I'll be honest the program and I think that's what I'm. Home or probably home is going to be when we sat in the out in that meeting for the 2nd time. You nailed it earlier today where private home runs and. It's giving me this. I can't even put into words. I'm already doing my harvesting I'm already doing my my I fed we fed about 7 military families and last November we harvested our 1st big ever 7575 pounds off of that pig. Give me the confidence that's truly put projects on runs going to be honest with you it's giving me the confidence to really keep the heck out of this depression suicidal thoughts this guilt trip that I go on sometimes of why did I survive why didn't my guys my right into my life why didn't they survive why is it me why why why. And that's what I honestly this this this. Project in this nation and what we're doing together this is what's going to keep me alive keeping me away from those suicidal thoughts and. Yeah and works and that's where this is this is a community effort as well so I mean it's not it's not strike up for a cause specifically it's not the bills just specifically it's it is it's the community and the partners in the sponsors and everything within the builders that are pulling together to make this happen I mean we're already getting a relatively large footprint around San Diego and Southern California just who our partners are who believes in what we're doing who sees the value in the educational side of it and it's every single person that's a part of this organization and strike out for a cause and really it's kind of I mean strike out for a cause the bills just kind of go hand in hand at this point as far as the work that we do because we believe the same things and it's the building blocks that are able to be granted by the people that are a part of this because they see the value of creating a face in the community that is more than just building a backyard more than just building a house remodeling a kitchen all the different stuff because like we talked about on the r.c.p. Podcast This is the history of San Diego building is the history of San Diego and that platform you talked about the confidence it starts with with revamping the space revamping the area putting in more confidence into into the unit like you talked about and given it someplace other people want to come because that is what a community is it's a it's a group of people or a place or thing or whatever it is where everyone comes together for the same common goal which is just supporting each other and being there through all the trials and tribulations and that platform is some Porton So what we're kind of doing from right now perspective is Gave His gave his 1st on deck were ready to go and we were actually going to the 2nd. So we're going to be able to actually in the next segment actually present gave never seen before either so prevent present the 1st design of what this backyards going to be for Project Home Run and he did give it a name right it's the never give up far. That is what we're going to go with never give up on. We had 6 we've had 6 or 7 lost. So that's why. I think it's perfect. I think. Winning to do 6 of these next year in 2021 this is just step one so the bill is just going to come together and make this one. Big part of what we do to sports community and we're excited to. Welcome back to the builders show that gives you insight or perspectives from the real estate market suppliers and everyone involved in the supply chain when it comes to your home here's your host John simple one clear. Welcome back everybody can learn a little bit about stick up for cosmic Terence and Gabe and we have kind of presented what we were doing with the builders a strike up for a cause which is a project home run in and specifically this year never give up farm so what that Derrick is the one is the best design that we. Went out to to gaves house one day just us 2 to go kind of check it out and that's actually I think we came up with the name never give up like right that right I think that's how we do most things. Yeah we just walk the property and you know your wife was great because she kind of helped us out point where where she wants things and where you would like things so I got on structure studios and put something together so yes can press play watch it see what you think might not be the best podcast content but you know the thing that you have to watch the video on the Instagram or You Tube and you can watch the overlay along with the video with throw it on there. They're all in yeah there's no sound ensure those face of the. Sentence like what technology can do. You know you feel like you're you feel like you're in the yard you can create that way to the line drawings in terms of 3 d. You know what we got we got everything in there for all the animals we've got the I don't know what part you're at but I hope you love a kitchen it's next got there yet. Having gone through kids. That's where you can be doing the dishes. And a cool part I see that Gabe mentioned to me just yesterday when he was just a lawyer for his there he gets his you know he's pulled therapy and whatnot he comes a lawyer which is super far from his house and what I'm seeing right now and his never give up farm is actual pretty sweet. Yeah. Some gas for the. Trip. Because you're talking about you had to get you have to go all the way to. Do. 99 mile one way. Traffic plus. The kitchen you're meeting right. Now is cutting back on their. Table. To respect the harvest hard. I look at this and I think about that are in wheelchairs. That can come in and visit I have a couple surgeries coming up that will pipe put me in a wheelchair myself. Just to be able to know that I can move from point a to point b. . That's sometimes you know just getting from point a to point b. . Took me 3 hours just to get up and get going this morning something like this is going to make a world of difference for for several My buddies that are quadriplegics you know who. On the sand box you know so this is I mean I was speechless I don't even know really what to say other than. We're going to be able to make an impact with this now and not that we're not now you know we're holding our meetings but I know I can actually invite some of my friends are quadriplegic there and will chairs that right now I can't even. Bring onto the property because of being afraid of them falling you know hitting a hole or something that's has risen on the farm because the you know you've seen it the grounds and even unfortunately and then. Yeah I mean. Even though it's a. This is going to be able to take us to the next. The next level and the next I still want to for you as well I'm excited I'm really excited to get it done I think this is going to be really just the start like as we've been talking but I think it's really just going to set the bar for you know what's possible and I saw a kitchen at a fan. Yeah just over the Labor Day weekend I had I had about 77 service members. Close friends of mine. We sat in 123 whether it's you know we just baked all day long but that's just what we needed. But that that's not kind of what you know you can bring up a wife or a child and that why they're now having this you know now that definitely is more welcoming to see the other parties involved and like this is going to be able to make a difference with the individuals. That I'm connected with and that I that I work with on a daily basis I mean I guess it's just sticking to the concrete so something simple is the concrete you know. A fan you know just the simple things in my head I mean I'm speechless I can't even. Well we're excited I mean this the fact that we we've almost kind of the most nervous about showing this to you just to make sure that it's it kind of hits all the boxes and makes that mean it's the backyard you want to do. Never mind with just that you never have to leave if you don't want to get everything you need you know sustainability of course but something that your kids can enjoy your life and enjoy your friends families you know everything you know the never give up far. That's I mean that. Think about the lesson here like the no job defines who you are and as we bring in people partners community members you know individuals to help make this possible they're going to be doing their job but remembering in digging into peeling the onion back about their why. Never give up farm to you know project home run is a collective collaborative effort from everyone that wants to do the right thing about what rank lation 6 not right doing the right thing no matter what. This is a team effort we talked about that with the bills to offer cause our veterans our brothers our sisters everybody that buys into that they truly want to give back so I'm thankful for this opportunity as well and it just goes I mean when I was we've been we talked about it a lot and I talked about I went on a podcast today and talked about it and it's the construction industry has the ability to do so much I mean it's such an old archaic industry both from the way that it's marketed but also from the way that it is I mean just how it operates and how it operates under seems I think the perception of the construction industry is 30 you know not not worthy of a lot of people's attention you know for some reason it's constant. But what is it right like the grind we talk about the grind and how we love the grind because of the finished result the finished product we're looking at the finished product right now and we know without a blink of an eye like we have work to do to get there and everyone here is willing to put in that work that grind because we know what the end result looks like we know what it looks like. You know teamed up we didn't have the rendering but yet for some reason we knew what it was going to look like. I mean we didn't even know it was going to come from the relationship you know now or we've made it here and like you said you know there's no way we're not going to get this done. So then let's talk about something because this is step one and we do have I mean this is this is a big 1st step but there's a lot to do from that so how can people get involved with Project Home runs back up for a cause that builds or is what can people that want to get involved with this do whether it's a contractor just someone that's listening or watching from home that that agrees and buys into the mission or a company how can someone get involved in making this a reality for not just gay but veterans for years to come. For one I hope everyone does their own research and homework to see why it's so important for so many may know in their own family or in their own community because just I gave mention just so many resources that are needed that are out there that we. Were blessed to half of what we're doing you know and how we're creating our sustainability you know project right now. You know we have our Web site. You know you can reach is via social media Facebook whatnot ask questions were one have the dialogue in the conversations to get you guys involved again by involved and you know on this November 11th we're actually going to have our very 1st charity golf tournament it's called tee off for troops and we're lucky you know we're lucky enough to involve include some local and basters leaders influencers that believe in doing the right thing and if you love golf which I'm starting to love you know because it's one of the few things we can do there in these times. To give back into education learn love together then join us you know we have some opportunities where we can again practice what we preach which is paying it forward while we play it forward and on November 11th we're going to paint play some golf with 100 percent of the you know the contributions going towards project home run to make it possible for not just gave but for as many veterans and community members to you know benefit from and I know we will have like a donation link that will set up so that on obviously all of the boats or social media at the website trying to for a causes you so there's you know there's going to be a fuse I mean. I mean the golf tournament going direct to the Web site going through that on the j.j. Side we're starting a campaign where if you actually mentioned strike up for a cause are going to bring up this is podcast 5 percent of the of the proceeds from the job that is done goes into this project home run on the building. We are I think we're going to put in the kind of crowd funding. For him to be able to not only just for this job just but just for future jobs for 2021 looking into the future being able to make it so that we can get these things funded early so that we can make more impact with it and those are just the 1st 3 I mean we haven't really even gone in full depth with the rest of our partners and sponsors and people who are part of his network about what they're going to do so I thought. It's going to be a chain reaction of all these great people and companies getting involved and giving back to Project Home Run in their own way and so we'll be able to keep you posted on on what that looks like exactly if you're a contractor to this into this and you're not Nestle part of those tours or you just have a company reach out to us on their go to dot com which is launching a few days here and reach out to us and say you want to get involved if you're just someone listening at home that likes the cause or wants to get some work done reach out and see you get involved see how we can help you or whatever that looks like and if you're a veteran and you're struggling with some of this stuff reach out to strike out for a cause or the Bills Toure's or both and see how you can get involved in that way and enjoy and gave in this project home run and take a visit to the never give up farm when it's when it's all done and completed and and start to kind of be an ambassador for what we believe in what you believe in and figure out what your why is and all this because that's what's going to make this work it's not going to be us installing one new backyard and calling a project home on the never give up farm it's it's the impact it's going to come from other people stepping up and doing their work in their own way within this industry that is archaic and old and creating more and more change through the work that we do and through the services we offer and through the partnerships we can we can collaborate with so reach out and let's get this going now so yeah again if you're a veteran out there listening and you want to go off and you know walk and you guys we are offering a couple spots at our upcoming tournaments so we are limited in spots so the sooner the better we can hear from you guys and love to host you guys and provide a service. We have a few minutes left so what's what's the process for me on the actual construction side of things what are we looking for that never give a fire never give up for well it's actually good that you mentioned contractors because we probably will be looking for a few few different types of contractors up in that area to kind of help on that project so obviously there's a pool and they're going to be looking for a pool contractor you know we're just excited to get it going once you can kind of . After the golf tournament you know see who are out. In terms of funds and start that permit process we got the design now so if there is any edits that you want to make a gate to it or anything that we want to add and then let's do it let's get it in there you know try to get all the spots but of course there's your yard so you're going to live with it forever so we'll get it right for the end and then we'll get our own on it so yeah and then to just talk about the name even though plug in the Builders dot com and talk about when it's coming out no 9 Yards actually officially comes out the 21st of September so on that date make she follow us at the builders make sure that you go check out the website and see everyone involved I know that Cooper is going to put this all together and everyone's probably want to see gauge reaction and just see what this actual design looks like what the never give up for him actually is outside of just here is talking on the podcast so look out for that video coming up in just join us once again this is step one in a lot of steps so. Anything else thank you guys very much for joining us Terence I know we'll be talking a lot gave anything you want to say to to kind of finish this off and I mean. Thank you thank you and if you have a veteran in your family you're listening you're a veteran. Please reach out and show up or hear someone here you know. We're here absolutely is there so is there a way to getting contact with you if there's a veteran that kind of wants to reach out what does that look like is it better to go through strike a for a cause can I find you somewhere you know they could find me through their struggle for a cause or. Believe or not I stay away from social media. The battles I'm battling right now yeah and I can't I can't do much of that stuff I like to feel like you know there are probably some veterans who do feel that way too so oh yeah I'm sure you're a great resource and if they are I have no problem giving out my digits I have no problem whatsoever 095-1599. If you need to call me I'm here. That's clearly what I'm here for I've had. You want to say it again one time 951-599-9144 if any veterans out there need to visit the farm wants to come out wants to see what I'm doing what he wants to just be involved please don't isolate don't self medicate get out reach out touch someone like they say in the core we're here I'm here. I have the worst birthday this year. One of my Marines community. So that's why I'm willing to give you my number and. The number just the number but a life is completely different. You can do what you want to us but we're not here and listening to bad mouth the United States of America gentlemen. Ladies and gentlemen boys and girls this is the weekend answer I'm Gareth Bale I'm with Jim Rick Heimer we are talking about the biggest stories of the week this is the last show before the presidential election so wherever you are whatever you're doing we want you to stop and go vote if you haven't voted go get your vote on it's easy to vote you should have received a ballot in the mail if you're a registered voter and heck even if you're not ready to probably got one anyway because absolutely California so get out there and vote what we're talking about this week well a lot obviously infections going up in some parts of the country big problems in Europe but we've got some amazing economic growth news at the end of the week Amy Kone bear is now been confirmed to the Supreme Court what cases might she be hearing in the very near future and then Trump and Biden making their closing pitches will talk about who's saying what and whether it's going to win and whether these polls in Wisconsin Michigan in Georgia and Texas are accurate but whether or not or they are go vote then our local site when we're talking about some endorsements of local congressional and state races there we're talking about 100 Biden and Joe Biden and their corruption and their friend Tony bubble and see what he has to say and why is it matter and the Senate Republicans hold a big hearing this likely this law. Last week with the heads of Facebook Twitter and Google over those platform censorship of 100 Biden story and Joe Biden corruption story who said what and what changes might come those platforms as a result men are ending the show with good news but Reiki is a big week for Trump you've got Amy Coney bear on the Supreme Court we have Kobe infections going up but the Kobe of numbers the numbers that matter are still going down and we're doing a hell of a lot better than Europe Well that's the other thing is that everywhere you turn all they do is talk about you know if Trump had just done it right if he wasn't sitting around if he had just gone ahead and fought this thing like he like he should have we wouldn't have covered it's all his fault and then you look over at Europe and you say well he wasn't run in Europe what happened over in Europe or in Europe had stricter lockdowns and we did they shut down their economy they basically shut down the economy except some of the northern northern European countries yeah extended Sweden is one of the few that said you know we're not we're not going to do a nation wide lockdown their economies done better and Europe's economy is coming back slowly but their g.d.p. Growth doesn't hold a candle to ours we found out this last week on Thursday that the g.d.p. Grew 7.4 percent in the 3rd quarter which over an annualized rate is 33 percent and Ricky I think this goes to show that trumpet and his people know what they're doing when it comes running the economy because pre-code it it was a strong economy the country had ever seen and now we have the quickest growth in economic growth the country has ever seen so to get these numbers you know in reality if you grow your economy 2 and a half 3 percent in the Obama years it was in the ones in the tooth right he never hit 3 percent rate 3 percent so I understand if you have a trillion dollar economy you're growth 3 percent now that growth is more jobs more products more services more things being done it gives you a higher standard of living for everybody throughout the country when you have that when you double that number in one quarter I mean that's just that's just so beyond the pale of what's happening out there you get on the freeways there full of cars peep. Going back to work right now they're saying that we are 3 and a half percent short of what the economy was a year ago meaning if the economy was at 100 percent a year ago we're like 96 and a half after we shut down the whole damn thing that's unbelievable and that happens because of how Trump looks at things it's not only the taxes a survey delay should anybody in business knows the catch 22 where you just can't get things done because you try to do this and the government says you can't do that you need the paperwork for this and that's not really Ok you'll be sued for liability here and it just stops it trumps going to regulation say and how do we open up the government so people can sit down and do work and get things done and that's what's making the biggest thing that's even bigger wave bigger than the cutting taxes Yeah the thing that I think people need to understand and to make this really practical is this if you're still debating on who to vote for and if for you that's a tough decision it all comes down to Do you want to go back to your job do you want your kids to go to school do you want to be able to go on vacation and do you want to be poor and depending on how you answer those questions that determines for whom you pull a lever and if I'm trying my closing argument is really basic hey if you vote for me you're not going to have national lockdowns are not economic growth you can be able to go back to work send your kids to school go to church and maybe go to Disneyland and then other hand Biden is promising a national mass mandate you know he's going to push for a national lockdown and he wants to raise taxes and then really as you saw in the last debate he had excuse serious unforced error right in the last minute you know otherwise Ok debate but he made this gaffe about oil production and that's really hurting him now in Pennsylvania he said I'm going to phase it out now you know the people that go get their high level degrees and universities they say well you know understand you know we're going to have less oil production and we're going to more wind and solar we're going to phase it out to the person of Pennsylvania's you're facing Not My Job Ok I'm not going to be you know. Putting solar panels on people's roofs I worked in a for can Oriel rig I'm doing gas I'm doing I'm building these things I'm an engineer for these kind of companies and there's a lot of high end ph there's like 29000000 high end jobs high you got at the rectory related to or oil or fracking technology let me tell you something you know it all the stuff I don't Colorado and it's like the American dream I do young young man I just use a guy a young man is buddies are off to a high school that I'm not sure what he's doing to go to community college for a while his buddy says hey you know what I got a job for you Colorado we're good we're doing oil work you can get a job with me so he comes out there he sleeps on his buddies couch he gets the job over at the oil company starts working out there he's carrying pipe he's doing work he's driving a truck use whatever it's not a big deal be making some pretty good money all of a sudden he's got his own apartment now he's bought a truck for himself he meets a nice girl he gets married has a family they buy a house that's the American dream that's how it's done out there but you need good paying jobs you can't have a job but forget Amazon in a warehouse running your butt off you know picking packages I mean I'm not try to take away from the job I'm just saying and all work is good all work is good but to move up you need move up jobs and those are the kind of things energy does for us move up jobs one thing that people do I think you know understand too is you're right about that but what would have Biden administration's approach be to economic growth and I think it comes down to a really different view of the economy if you're a Republican if you're a trump voter you think of the economy as something you participate in that you help grow that benefits everyone and at the end of the day the government should take just a little bit to do the essential functions if you're Biden you see the government's job as regulating the economy on the basis of fairness whatever the hell that means right and then trying to pick winners and losers and for those of us who are old enough to remember Biden stewardship of you know the Recovery Act from 20082010. It was a disaster because the government right slender was the poster child of government investment and he's bogus green energy schemes that led to the creation of no jobs and no growth and just wasted money for politically connected cronies Exactly exactly and so we can't go back to that the free enterprise system actually works it gives people jobs you hire people you produce more dollars Listen if you're in a high tax rate in your business selling you start up your business and you're doing the dry cleaning business you know it even 1st of all you got to get the business because you probably worked in it maybe a bought it from the owner but then you need a new piece of equipment when you go out and you buy that piece of equipment that you get out of your profits if you don't make a profit you don't get the new piece equipment or you don't hire the new person so that's how it works and that's what we have to continue to do in this country and Biden ain't going to do that coming up by holds a small lead in some swing states but his chance on taxes bracket and pork packing make do and it will take that down. Streaming. Dot com and radio dot com. Welcome back it's a weekend answer and good family or Amy 7 the answer dot com we can answer dot com If you want to harass us and complain it's weekend answer at G.-Mail dot com getting into some specifics of the final days of the presidential race obviously it's been a contentious race and we're inundated every day with news about polls which which polls are. Are we listening to which ones are we ignoring We have swing state polls you have national polls general rule of thumb rigged I think if people should ignore the national polls they don't matter but people are I think more inclined to view these polls in Wisconsin Michigan you know Florida Ohio Pennsylvania and I want to get into this a little bit and I think the thing people need to realize the last couple days is the media's never been their friend of Republicans or conservatives but the last few days a much they go into overdrive and so they push these polls that might be totally false and so last couple days we've seen polls showing Biden up in Wisconsin by 5 to 8 in Michigan up one point in Georgia and then what we saw this last week was claims that even in states like Texas the race is tied and whether or not that's true I think people need to understand there's an agenda here and these polls don't act accurately capture Trump voters or republicans are you going to believe those polls are your lionize I mean how can you have Biden in the basement and I we joke about it but he is really in the basement he's gone to Delaware where he's at to speak and there's 12 people there yeah when he shows up he's just talking to 12 reporters right and there you see what you can do from anywhere and then you've got Trump with thousands of people showing up in the freezing cold rain How do you how do you sit there say you know buying Still I'm better now yes the moving up in the polls you know holes don't capture any enthusiasm whatsoever and they get they just don't and so and the fact the matter is it's just really hard to do statewide polls it's hard to get you know who's actually going to show up who's actually going to tell you this and who's going to say it I to this day I how many people do you know that will not and you know they support Trump will not admit they support Trump they're not going to say yeah and some posters came out this last week to pollsters came out and actually said they think Trump's going to win Pennsylvania and they pointed to polls they did that showed him up by a couple points in Pennsylvania still in the margin of error which is usually anywhere from $2.00 to $5.00 points but still showed Trump ahead and those 2 polls are seen as outliers. Both of these pollsters talked about sort of the soft silent trunk group that doesn't show up in most polling company's polls because most polls and lot of voters don't know this they still use voter turnout models from 20082012 which were the Obama years that don't account for changes in demographics and actual voter makeup since then so the polls aren't necessarily right and regret think the reason why the polls aren't right is they don't actually capture sentiment and they don't register how people feel and I think how people feels informed by a lot of things one is if you're a trump voter you're really stoked that any Kone bear is on the Supreme Court she was confirmed this last week 5248 and so you're proud of that and yet there's no way polls can measure that on the other hand there's no Democratic enthusiasm and there's none for Kamel Harris and partially it's because she's still lying and she still won't say what she is for and so basically Democrat voters don't know where she's at a very different in the policies that you've supported in the past if you're considered the most liberal United States senator. I somebody said that it actually was Mike Pence on the debates to. Well actually nonpartizan track has rated you as the most liberal senator you supported the Green New Deal you supported Medicare for all you've supported legalizing marijuana Joe Biden doesn't support those things so are you going to bring the policies those progressive policies that you supported as Senator into a bike ministration what I will do and I promise you this and this is what Joe wants me to do this was part of our deal I will always share with Him My lived experience as it relates to any issue that we confront and I promised that I would give him that perspective and always be honest with him I will give him my truth my truth what's true for me I'm going to tell him because you know I'm just unbelievable you did life experiences that I have had are so amazing and that was part of the deal I said Joe here's the deal Joe I'll tell you the truth and I think part of the deal was and I'm going to live the American people every day until Election Day whatever you need so you know when she's going to start to line shows that hack a laugh and she done that several times hyena and she's just she's she's very nervous she's very upset and she goes into that whole big thing and that's like you know I it's a cute chick thing when you're like you know 1718 years old right like this movie havior high school behavior going to laugh about it whatever because you don't understand something. But you know she's not she's not going to do that she's going to be as left as she is remember what's going on what Palosi Ploesti said enough for the 25th Amendment and she said it basic 25th Amendment is where you get half the I think it's half the cabinet and the vice president to agree that the president's not stable or not mentally Ok or whatever and they take it you can take over that the government Nancy Pelosi is not doing that to take it away from Trump right he set it up by and for Biden because we know Biden can't get through an evening I mean there are. Put him on Adderall or something when he does these debates because the next day he's wiped out for 23 days right so we have comma Harris doing interviews where she won't say what she's for won't live up to her own record and then that explains why they largely kept her in the basement then Biden goes out and says stuff like this if you're like me you're not going to have your taxes are going to be raised not cut if you're if you're better Jennifer I'm not. Now Ricky I think what he went on to say as he tried to make sense of it by saying well if you make more than $400000.00 a year but what people need to understand is number one that's not a lot of money if you own a business so if you're saying to tack you know future taxpayers if you're buying Hey I'm not raising your taxes unless you make 400000 a year who do people think hires other people well those who make $50000.00 a year well 1st off 2 things One you to get up to $4000.00 you're in extremely high tax brackets by the time you get there so you know your percent so you started with the truck that old truck you're being in the trucking company you're out there moving dirt around now you get 2 trucks only to have another guy over there you've got By the 3rd truck trucks cost 80100002 aren't $1000.00 if you don't have profits to do that you can't do it that's how things are done very seldom do I see wealthy people that have businesses that started from nothing just you know go to the Bahamas every day they're actually taking their money reinvest in their business and growing their business that's what they know that's what they do and so anything when you start in with the tax rates as high as they are even at the $200.00 to $250.00 to $3000.00 range which everyone thinks is like oh my gosh you're making a fortune yes if you're working somewhere and that's a salary that's unbelievable salary let's that that's big money if you own a business you're going to have those years that are to be hired because you're also going to have years that you lose $150.00 grand and you still got to pay your your employees and pay everybody else to go and so that's really kind of how it balances out well their thing too is if you want this economy to grow and you want to be able to get a job get a better job hire people do you really want to have the federal government hanging at the sword over your neck and saying well if you hit this arbitrary number that we draw after that you're screwed what incentive going to be to play games to either not hit that threshold or try and play some tax or accounting game to stay underneath that that doesn't incentivize people to work and succeed because it sets an artifice. A low threshold at which you're going to punish them yet if you were to California or New York California $13.00 whatever 8 percent going to 16 you know that's they're talking 16.8 percent some like that at a certain point you're saying I'm paying 5060 percent of what I make to do it now again these are the most productive people these are people that are competent right these are the ones who are leaving California and opening businesses are taking their workers to other states other than Shapiro going out a little absolutely or if you know you lawn must has moved Joe Rogan has moved and so people here see him when Biden says I'm going to raise taxes on the rich people he's basically saying I'm raising taxes on people who make things and hire other people competent people when we return our indorsements for the important local races don't go anywhere. All right ladies and gentlemen boys and girls we can answer show I'm Garrett Fay I'm a business an election law attorney things Mike interesting the weeks ahead will let you know joined as always by the erudite Jim Ricky Ray Homer businessman father recovering politician former city councilman former mayor of the great city of Khost the mesa talk about the biggest stories of the week but also talking about some local races we have some interesting races here in Orange County l.a. County San Diego County they're going to impact the future out not only of the state but the country and as was the case in 2018 majority control of the House of Representatives will run through Orange County will run through l.a. County and therefore we're talking about some congressional races going to go through these one by one they are state senate district 37 with state Senator John Morelock running for reelection We have young Kim running the 39th Congressional District against Gil Cisneros the millionaire who are. Inor or the lottery winner I should say we have might Garcia in the 25th Congressional District you've heard him here before and then we have Michelle Steele running the 48th Congressional District against incumbent Harley and Ricky obviously these are the Republican candidates we support but beyond just the party label good reason to support each of these with having long lasting implications for the state and the country well I mean John Morelock 1st 1st of all Senator Morelock he's the guy that said we're just the county was going to go bankrupt and when he was running for treasurer he was all laughed at and 3 and 4 months later we filed for bankruptcy he was then the treasurer for Orange County he was then the supervisor for Orange County he's been the one that kind of he's a c.p.a. He's the only c.p.a. In the legislature and he had and it shows and shows he actually looks at the math he did a video on the California insider on You Tube California and said look it up last week about pensions over 100000 views in 5 days Wow And this is a 30 minute deal that you know it's kind of you have technical issues net kind of stuff and it just kind of lays it out of what the math is and he basically talks about how the public employee unions run everything and he says and they and they hate me and so that's why they go after me and sure enough yesterday I get home and there's a piece 2 pieces of mail from the Orange County Sheriffs Association the Deputy Sheriffs Association and it's all you know Morelock is scum Morelock is horrible He's the worst thing in the world he's got to Nokia knows all this kind of stuff because they hate him so much now he's not supervisor anymore these are the county employees but they hate him so much they still don't want him to be in the state and the reason why they hate him is not because he's hard on law enforcement the reason why they hate him is John Morelock is one of the few politicians in California who tells the truth about our fiscal economic situation and the truth of the pension problems don't talk about pensions it's a complicated thing to all you know is there upside down there unfunded they're getting worse and pension costs are going to be sucking the life out of everything in this state and John. Warlock is one of the few people who's actually doing something about it he's running against a very liberal u.c.i. Law press named Dave min whose chief I think endorsers are planned parenthood and probably you know California Democrat party with billionaire money Dave men is not the guy you want John Morelock is the guy we're asking you to vote for he's the guy we're voting for for state senator in the 37th state senate district Next up is young Kim running for Congress and 39 congressional stricken Regie interesting race there she came close to years ago her opponent actually won the lottery literally won the lottery won the lottery financially not really in the brain department and so young Kim actually has a good chance of knocking off in 39th Yes So when they ran last time Gail since there was basically was saying have got my own money I can run my own race nobody has to tell me what to do and I don't have to follow up and vote for him so I can be more conservative which is what Orange County wanted and they could have somebody in the Democratic Party but could speak for Orange County as soon as he got there he gave Nancy Pelosi whatever she wanted he's voted out everything that's completely liberal and he basically hasn't showed up and done anything else there meanwhile young Kim really fits the demographics of that district you know she had won the election on Election Day And then when the harvesting happened she ended up losing that within the next you know 10 days or we had She's actually up 10000 votes on election night in 28000 over the next 2 weeks as the votes came in as the as you said the ballots were harvested by Democrats that lead disappeared and flipped upside down but she's running a good campaign she run a good campaign so she's got a really good shot for it and basically he can't run on the fact of saying hey I'm going to be moderate he's basically shown that he's a total liberal That's right and that leads us into our next race which matters which is Mike Garcia talked Top Gun my daughter a gun and you've heard him here on the show before former pilot in the military flew fighter planes in Iraq during Desert Storm one and. It actually does turn to sorry but Mike arceo won a special election. Did replace Katie Hill up in 25th which is parts of l.a. County and part of Ventura County and really good guy running a good race getting national attention national money but this race is important because it's a close one and if he keeps it it could help the Republicans recapture control the House of Representatives yet we have to start I mean California got wiped out of Republicans this last 2 years ago the blue wave of the past the blue way of cash came in there when you think about these people that are putting out money they talk about the rich and the left always does so all the big banker money all the Wells Fargo money all the. I can think of all the big banks out there it's all going to the Democrats it's all going to be to buy and he's bringing in billions and billions of dollars and when you look at this race over here you know Stier comes in and drops 20000000 dollars 15000000 dollars Bloomberg dropping $100000000.00 a rich person has $100000000.00 which person that's 50 a rich person has $25000000.00 this guy spending 100000000 on one race in Florida so again Mike Garcia is our guy he's he's going to bring some sensibility to Congress and I think he'd be great leadership that the Congress really does need the Republicans need there yeah I mean he's a really a model exemplary guy military background private sector background worked at Raytheon for many years had his own investment company thought you know married father of kids you know the exact profile you're looking for in terms of someone who loves the country loves what's good about and wants to make a positive difference or at last race one talk about this is one close to home this is the 48th Congressional District Michel Steele who's a supervisor in Orange County in the board supervisors is running against incumbent Harley Ruta and Harley knocked off Dana Rohrbacher in 2018 again Dana was a victim of the blue wave of $60000000.00 of Democrat super pac money that flowed into Orange County and rigging as much money coming in Orange County this year because so many Democrats want to win the swing states and take front out of the Oval Office but Hollywood. Still going on Nancy Pelosi money and you know this race like the young cameras like the My Car Series is important because it goes to the idea of when an incumbent or Democrat is running and says Vote for me I'm going to be an independent I may be a moderate that really doesn't jive with how things actually work in Washington because if you want to get ahead and get good committee assignments you have to please leadership in this case leadership only means one person Nancy Pelosi Yeah that's what happened there and if if you didn't know who was who and I said listen you can vote for the the wealthy candidate who lives in the Get gated guard guard gated community on the ocean and one of the wealthiest by far top one percent of one percent neighborhoods and I would tell you that's the Democrat or you could you could vote for the person who you know started a business you know with her hands and worked hard and came from a foreign country and had to learn English and everything else you know a real American story you'd think well that must be the Democrat Now that's a Republican that's Michelle Steele Michelle has done the work a lot of people over the years have known Michelle cause their husband her husband was the chairman of the Republican Party and she was always kind of off to the side but when she started get him in office what you saw at Michelle is she works she's serenely However flat out works she learns the issues she does the work over there she's nobody's wife she is Michelle Steele and she again for the 48th Congressional District she should she should be able to do that but again with all this vote harvesting who knows mechanically how the votes are going to come here and the reasons why we're in favor Michele Steele or Ricky said she's number one a hard worker Number 2 she is the American success story came here didn't speak a lick of English learned English got herself up to the Board of Supervisors she knows Orange County knows the economic issues and she also understands coded she declared a state of emergency for covert back in March before and the state did and she gets how to balance between protecting people and reopening and that's really the big debate we're going to have in Washington next 2 years is how do we transition out of a full lockdown mentality into a economic growth mentality Michelle Steele knows that those issues and that's why we are going to endorse her for her race. When are we turn explosive revelations in the Bidens corruption story and g.o.p. Senators grilled the heads of Facebook and Twitter on their censorship of the story when we come back. All right we're back we are the weekend answering good faith and with Jim a time we're talking about some legal issues now obviously the presidential race merely days away one of the biggest stories that's been covered by some and completely ignored by others is the Hunter Biden issue and his relationship with his father Joe Biden former vice president now presents a candidate and what relationship they had with foreign companies foreign businesses and how much money they made peddling influence to foreign companies and foreign countries and how much money Hunter Biden make knowing that he can introduce people to his father that then vice. Hasn't Joe Biden rigged what we saw this week was the big interview by a Fox News is Tucker Carlson with Tony Bob Olinsky this guy is Hunter's former business partner and what we learned is that not only was Hunter in on these deals but Joe dad himself the big guy was also in on these things and we found out why this Paul Ince the guy was pissed off and it wasn't just because the deal didn't come to fruition it's because there was a certain amount of money almost $5000000.00 that was supposed to go to a company and said Who did it go to what to Hunter and one of the things to understand about the story and they keep on saying you know Trump shouldn't talk about Hunter because the issue is really about Biden and you have talk about Biden when you understand that you know Hunter is not just the son of Joe Biden he's not just somebody who has some access and you hire him to be your lobbyist which you really find out is when you hire Hunter Biden your hunt hiring Joe Biden that's right that the actual money in the dollars go to either Joe or his brother who's been with them since you know obviously Brother Day One I think of brother was 22 years old when Joe was $29.00 and ran for the Senate and his brother actually raised money for his campaign but their families have become multimillion time multimillionaires over the years and and Joe's basically making $44000.00 a year as a senator and up at like one $175000.00 a year and he's people just to be clear they've never started a private sector business they have no discernible skills actually they have and they've all failed lower right actually yeah they've actually had them they've had . Yeah but these are not people who started successful businesses and you know these are not the Mitt Romneys of the world you know who were starting to run an extremely successful business and which is why they're now wealthy people who simply use their name and their government connections for government contracting to line their own pockets so so Tucker Carlson did an interview we did a show with Bob Dylan ski the next day he did the full one hour interview Now listen you can. Do the the line the spin the anything you want to do for 10 or 15 minutes for 5 minutes get to right or she'll break right you can do an hour this Tony Bob Alinsky was completely credible he went through stories and stories and what he basically said to the big picture is is that yes I was brought in to run these companies because they've obviously never run international companies before and this guy by the way he's no slouch former navy top secret security clearance extremely successful investor a lot of money a lot of connections so he is the guy this guy with talent and so they needed a guy to run it and they're basically working so you know Hunter God bless them was out there running around get all these these these countries and their corporations to go fund him to put together some kind of business that they would invest in but in the yeah end the money that these companies really invested wasn't to invest in anything it was just to get money to them so in the fact of the Chinese there was $10000000.00 They had to be invested 5000000 came from the Chinese and then the then the Chinese loaned Hunter Biden and his dad the Biden family 5000000 for their half of the investment to go into a company that doesn't really buy or do any investments it just takes the money that comes in so you know not to go around in circles on this basically got a situation where Bob Linsky says it's not Hunter I'm with Hunter and his dad Joe we are having drinks at the hotel in Beverly Hills he says dad is speaking to the vice president speaking at the. What the what's the big and the milk and the 1000000 and 2 is there they're all on camera everybody sees them there you know buying talks and separately without a son there it says hey take care of my son take care of my you know my brother make sure things run Ok yes Mr Vice President of course I will and then you start to find out after a while what was really going on here he called out down there but the whole point is what I'm trying to make is it's not a Hunter Biden story No it's a Joe Biden it it's a Joe Biden so it access because if Joe Biden Disney's didn't exist and wasn't vice president none of this stuff would how correct Hunter was simply the conduit to get to Joe because Joe had relationships with foreign heads of state and interior ministers an economic minister as we know one of things that came out was you know they were the Chinese were interested in Joe Biden's relationship with people in Colombia because they're looking at doing some oil and drilling down there and so Hunter was the gateway to Joe and the whole point was you sign a deal with Hunter and some company hunters associated with to trade on Joe's access and everyone gets rich because of what Joe will do in the conversations Joe will have and the relationships Joe has and now Joe is running for president so you would think this would make for interesting stories yet if you watch m s n.b.c. C.b.s. A.b.c. N.b.c. You read the New York Times The Washington Post they've all not covered it and then worst of all Facebook and Twitter censored the New York Post when it ran some articles which revealed let us to the hearings this week on Wednesday Senate Republicans held a hearing in the Senate Commerce Committee is a subcommittee there and they interviewed the heads of Facebook and Twitter and Google and it got heated and Republicans basic point was listen you people are saying you're just platforms but you're actually putting your thumb on the scales and Ted Cruz Senator from Texas had a good exchange with Jack Dorsey from Twitter Mr go and see who the hell elected you and put you in charge of what the media are allowed to report and what the American people are allowed to hear and why do you persist. In behaving as a Democratic super pac silencing news to the contrary your political gifts Let's give Mr Dorsey a few seconds to answer that and to have to conclude this in this segment. Well words were not there enough this is what I did opens. This hearing with calls for more transparency we realize we need to earn trust more we realize that more comical is needed to show our intention was in the studio not to serve your concerns and acknowledge them. We want to fix that with more terms for instance you know I mean so this is a guy who's worth almost $10000000000.00 is the c.e.o. Of Twitter Twitter He's also the c.e.o. Of square which is like a payments company very bright real sharp but he's in the situation now where once they started saying we can't have hate speech once we can allow neo nazis on then we can't we have to you know shut down bad speech which is what the left has been doing on the young people in this country are doing right here on this crap and call it they learn all this garbage this is no longer the a.c.l.u. You know supporting the Nazis in Skokie Illinois to say trust me you want to protect their free speech because they'll take your free speech away later once Dorsey and Twitter started to go ahead and say you can't have hate speech or different things on they became the gate keepers and now they have a situation where they went on and they said hey this is we don't know this information came from it's not there and the whole company so much a Democrat will write anything remember too as when the New York Post story about 101st broke Twitter disabled the sharing of it and disable people's accounts who shared that article including the personal account of the president's own press secretary Kelly McEnaney and so Twitter's response was all we thought this ran afoul of are spreading disinformation without this Russian descent from Asia and thought this was from hacks material but as Senator Ron Johnson Republican of Wisconsin point out none of this came from hack material this is all stuff that was found on Joe our 100 by and laptop which he left at a repair stop and so really I think people need to realize what these platforms are doing is they're extremely biased they're screwing Republicans and this. Why control the Senate really matters right and if you can just if you look at the facts of the dollars you know it's like 99 percent of the money of these employees give their money to the Democrat Yeah and they all hire former Democrats to run their censoring in their quote unquote election integrity in December mation offices yet be the people that run these departments all worked in the Democratic apparatus for 1520 years before they got jobs at Facebook and Twitter they had to decide what is kind of information we should or shouldn't have out there so listen is long as we're going to have these places be the public square the government's going to have to get involved the Supreme Court's going to have to get involved you cannot have corporations decide what can or cannot you know be transmitted to people out there yet and at the end of day they stop becoming platforms and they become participants in the debate that's when they lose their immunity and that's where they are now coming up some really good news that's heartwarming and not political don't change that. Ok today's Melich hoopla yell out what's this I hope I'm a ballet not seen fill it out sign it's part turn it out an official top box at my pulling place or just mail it now step needed Oh I can track it status online with where's my ballot you really can track everything these days I hope by mail ballots simple safe secure County learn more and don't see a doctor paid for by the California secretary of state. Coast Larry for 20 percent off. Never welcome back I'm Garrett Bama Jim Remember this is the weekend answer show get out there and vote if you haven't voted already voted early vote often I'm just going go vote once if you lost your ballot you can get a replacement ballot if you are totally clueless and go to the registrar's office go to a vote center they'll give you a ballot we can't guarantee you it's going to be counted if you don't follow the rules but still there's still time so go vote get your ballot go vote get yourself educated we told you who to vote for the local news section if you're missed that part get on the podcast will you hear our recommendations but Regie time for some good news story get us started about a good news for a baby in Canada oh my God this is the cutest baby Lucy van Dharm all I think that's pronounce her last name anyways Lucy was born with a disease called spinal muscular atrophy estimates a genetic genetic disease that causes infants muscles to waste away and basically kill them before they get takes to get to the point and she was at the point where she you know no longer could swallow food she couldn't really move her head the muscles were basically all deteriorating and this family because there are some drugs out there that were approved to be. And Canada where they're out and of course Canada does not approve super expensive drugs let's just face it you know and big pharmaceutical companies generally not doing a lot of work that you know can't and in Canada so that the drug treatment was over $2000000.00 This is you know very expensive all the cost to put this thing together to make it cost a $1000000000.00 to the family went out there and raise 2000000 dollars through donations through websites and everything else to go ahead and raise it and after they raised at the company which is Novartis Novartis put them on the list and said you know what we're going to do it for free which is amazing because again $2125000.00 price tag and the drug we're talking about something called Zoll gens Maya That's a mouthful it replaces a working copy of the defective gene into those nerve cells before they die and symptoms develop and here's the kicker the treatment is available here in the u.s. The Lutheran our bringing Christ to the nations. Some people never change most people do and with God all people can that's part of today's message by Dr Michaels that we do not have the power to change anything but we know the one who says what if you believe that no person is a lost cause what if you believe that no one is outside of the sacrificial love of Jesus what if you believe that no one is beyond the transformative power of God's word yourself included what would you lose if you believe that and later Dr John newness introduces us to a modern day Saint We should remember that stood a on the moon through on our fellow I Mark I Sure thanks for joining us today in this hour 90 if year your gifts and prayers help the Lutheran our brain Christ to the nations and the nations to the Church thank you for your faithful support now here's our speaker Dr Michael Ziegler. You've probably heard this phrase before I'm almost certain of it you might have even said it's usually said when a person is frustrated or disappointed in someone who's let them down for the umpteenth time see if you can fill in the blank Some people never change right some people never change what does that mean I don't think I've ever heard it as a compliment it's usually said with this kind of tone son people some people never change you might have seen examples of this you you knew someone that guy was as mean as a snake when he was in school and only meaner still Now these old smart people tell us don't try to change people some might even say people never really change on the other hand you could cite examples of people who have changed profoundly changed changed for good well there's exceptions to every rule the question is what do we make of the exceptions practically what do we make of them when you're dealing with a person who seems to be a lost cause to you what do you make of that person how do you know whether or not that one day they might prove to be an exception to this rule that some people never change. The Old Testament Book of Daniel tells of a surprising exception to this rule in what is now modern day Iraq there are many archaeological digs people have been digging around there for more than 100 years and in these digs they find lots and lots of bricks bricks that once belong to beautiful buildings bricks that bear a name hundreds of bricks stubbornly unchangeably stamped with the one very proud name never could those are king of Babylon Daniel Chapter 4 speaks of this never can as are and God's power to make exceptions to our rules Dennis Chapter 4 is unique because it is a 1st person account from never can as are himself it's a letter from King Nebuchadnezzar to the nations in which he tells how he became a changed man it seems that he has written this letter in the last decade of his life perhaps when he was in his sixty's or early seventy's and for the last 30 years he has been invaded and pillaging and conquering you know doing what Babylonian kings do he stomped down all those people and stamped all those bricks because he wanted people never to forget his legacy but now near the end of his life he's a changed man what happened over the last 30 years or so never can as or has gotten to know a Jewish slave named Daniel Daniel was captured by the Babylonians and taken into forced service to serve the King Nebuchadnezzar. And over time he became one of Navigon as are his most trusted advisers Daniel grew up in Babylon and when never can as a wrote this letter Daniel was probably a middle aged man maybe in his forty's over the last 3 decades Daniel has witnessed how the One True God His God has used him and his friends to have a profound influence on this pagan King and now the king of Babylon is starting to look toward the king of the Jews for hope and inspiration never Knesset or is starting to change but not so fast we all know that people like never can as Or don't really change he's the king of Babylon for crying out loud people like him don't change besides this Jewish story about the one Creator God all powerful good and wise and benevolent who created everything out of nothing and then when his human creatures fouled it all up he chose a people and promised to send a king who would restore the original goodness of the creation change the world and change people this sounds like a fairy tale to the Babylonian year. In the Babylonian story of the world things never really change people never change for the Babylonians there is no good Creator God who created everything in the beginning in the beginning it was survival of the fittest chaos and bloodshed wars and revolution in the beginning there was a war of the gods and these gods hunted and preyed on one another until one group of gods evolved and reached the top the Babylonian gods of course and the Babylonian gods then from the mangled corpses of their defeated foes created humankind to be their slaves and the most prominent of humans is the king of Babylon and the king of Babylon job is to reenact this violent victory of his gods by waging a war against everyone everywhere as long as he sits on the throne it sounds harsh but that's just the way it is some things never change or so the story goes and this is what King Nebuchadnezzar has believed and acted out for the duration of his adult life that's why he stamped all those bricks but now the never can as Or that we meet in Daniel Chapter 4 wants to leave a different mark on history he's a changed man now his old way of imagining the world still clings to him you can hear that in the letter but you can also hear how he's changed. And Daniel his trusted advisor has taken the words of never can as are and incorporated them into his book his witness to the One True God saw listen to the King's own account of how he became an exception to the rule. In these excerpts of Daniel Chapter 4. I. Was at home in my palace content to. Prosperous when I had a dream that made me afraid this I was lying in bed the visions in images passing through my mind terrified me so I commanded that all the wise men of bob along be brought before me to reveal the meaning of the dream for me I told them to dream but its meaning they could not make known to me finally done deal who is also called both to shut solder after the name of my God. In him is a spirit all of holy Garth's. I told him the dream I said to him Bill to show. I looked and there before me stood a tree in the middle of the earth. Its height was enormous the tree grew great and strong so that its top touched the heavens it was visible to the ends of the earth. Its leaves were beauty for all its food in on it there was food for all underneath the wild animals found shelter in the birds lived in its branches from it every creature was fed in my vision as I was lying in bed I looked and there before me was a watch or a holy war on coming down from heaven and he called in a loud voice cut down the tree. Cut off its branches strip its leaves scatter its root let the beasts leave from underneath it and the birds from its branches let its stump with its roots balland in iron and bronze remain in the ground in the grass of the field let it be drenched with the dew of heaven let it do well with the beasts let its heart be changed from that of a man and lead it to be given the heart of it Beast instead until 7 times pass by for it so that the living may know that the most high rules over the human kingdom and gives it to whomever he pleases and sets over it the lowliest. The holiest of men and built the shows are answered my Lord if only the dream applied to your enemies and its interpretation to your adversaries the tree that you saw that grew large and strong with its top touching the heavens visible to the ends of the earth Your Majesty you are that tree you have grown great and strong your greatness reaches the heavens your dominion extends to the distant parts of the earth Your Majesty saw a watcher. A holy one saying cut down the tree and destroy it and leave it stump in the ground this is the meaning it is a decree of the most high against my lord the king you will be driven from humankind and dwell with the beasts of the field until 7 times pass by for you until you know that the most high rules over the human kingdom and sets over it whom ever he pleases the command to leave the stump in the ground with its roots means that your kingdom will be restored to you when you know that heaven rules so then your Majesty be pleased to accept my counsel break away from your sin toward what is right turn from your guilt by showing mercy to the Oprah asked perhaps your prosperity will be prolonged. Now at this point Daniel breaks from the scene and he relays the details of what happened next never can as or did not take his advice at least not initially he continued to boast in his greatness and then about a year later God humbled him struck him with some sort of mental illness and he began to behave like a beast he let his hair grow like the feathers of an eagle and his fingernails curled in like talons and then Daniel brings in have a can as there's voice back again to tell us how it ends at that time I. Lifted up my ice to have been in my reason was restored to me so I bless the most. All nerd and glorified the one who leaves for ever because he's due minion is in eternal Dominion he's Kingdom endures for ever. My nobles and advisors to me out and I was reinstated to my kingdom now I Ching never can as are I praise I exalt I who always for I the King of Heaven because everything he does is right and all his ways just and all those who walk in pride. He is able to humble. As I listen to Daniel Chapter 4 this week one thing became apparent to me Daniel actually cares about and have a king as her. He cares about this violent arrogant tyrant he cares for him and he believes that his God has the power to change him. Daniel knows that his God is gracious and compassionate slow to anger and of bounding instead fast love forgiving sins pardoning transgressions removing guilt Daniel No most His God is working not to destroy this man but to change him to call him to turn in faith toward life with the One True God did never can as Or come to faith will he stand with the faithful in the resurrection when Jesus comes to judge the living in the dead will he be in that number When the saints go marching in I sure hope so but I don't know I do know that if our God had the power to raise his son Jesus from the dead and he did that he can change a person any person and I suppose this is why we say some people never change it's not all people but some people never change but how do you know which kind you're dealing with and what would it cost you if you were to hope if you were to believe that every difficult person you meet is an exception to this so-called rule what if you believe that no person is a lost cause what if you believe that no one is outside of the sacrificial love Jesus what if you believe that no one is beyond the transformative power of God's word yourself included what would you lose if you believe that maybe some heartburn maybe some bitterness and resentment and maybe you'd gain some patience and understanding so much so that you might stop altogether saying this phrase Some people never change and instead you might say. Jesus changes people Jesus changes people there will still be cases of exceptional on belief and on repentance cases like Judas who betrayed Jesus there will be awful cases of people who do terrible evil. That horrifies us and baffles us and reminds us that we are not in control even if we are voters in the most powerful democracy of the world we do not rule over the human kingdom we do not have the power to change anyone but we know the one who does we know the one who set over the human kingdom the lowliest of man the crucified man his son Jesus whom he raised from the dead Jesus the King of the Jews is risen from the dead in Him God made the exception the rule so I believe it's true Jesus changes people and you are no exception when you pray with me God Father all powerful you alone can recreate you alone can really orients you alone can redeem the human heart by the power of your word Jesus the Messiah in live in the words and witness of your people all around the world. To change hearts of stone to hearts of flesh living hearts that look to you in faith through the same Jesus Christ your Son our Lord who lives and reigns with you in the Holy Spirit one God now and forever amen. You're listening to the Lutheran hour for free online resources archived audial our mobile app and more go to Luther run our dot org And now back to Dr Michael Ziegler thank you Mark today I am visiting with Dr John newness He's the president of King Cordie College in Bronxville New York thanks for joining us Dr newness great to be here so John today is All Saints Day and I've heard you use this phrase about the word tradition you say that tradition has to do with the living faith of those who are deceased the living faith of the saints Why does that phrase speak to you that you are some Pollock on is the person who coined that phrase and he has a book a little book called The vindication of tradition you know sometimes people. Kind of put down tradition and say well that's the stuff in the past and this phrase is what he's an address and he says tradition is the living faith of the dead and then he contrasts that and turns it on its head and he says Traditionalism is the dead fate of the living so it's essentially say it out tradition is a good thing traditionalism not so it's not impersonal practices but it's the living faith of those who've gone before us and that's kind of what all saints days is about is commemorating remembering that living faith that goes on you know for me that living faith and that's notion comes alive when I think about my father and I'll say his name never will know next who died in October of 2060 he was just an incredible educator and he was a role model for me he taught me the faith he taught me how to fold my hands and right and he is in many ways. He's still with me the faith that he believed and confessed is the faith that I believe in contrasts and it kind of unites us and keeps us together in other words God keeps that traditional live in me and I remember him and it and there's a great power to remembering those who have gone before us it's the living faith of the deceased last week we mentioned the book that you coauthored with Alberto Garcia It's titled Wittenberg meets the world reimagining the Reformation at the margins and John in the book you suggest that we would be blessed to remember a saint that few people in North America might be familiar with an Ethiopian pastor named Diena Thompson he was a just a remark global figure in that growth of the Ethiopian Church McConaughey says McConaughey says itself is a great term it means the place of Jesus they call their church body the place of Jesus and the language ally thin and film was one of the leading founders of this church body he in the 1970 s. Refused to capitulate or to give in to the Marxist government the Marxist government told the church that it must preach the tenets and the teachings of Marxism and to himself as the leader of the church body refused to do so and he was arrested because of that and they tortured him they released him and he went back to his pastors in his church body and he said you know if the government prohibits us from proclaiming the Gospel we have an obligation to protect laim it twice as much they arrested him again and tortured him again and this time he died but the faith that he believed taught and confessed grew and grew and that church continued to explode in its growth when p. . People see people making sacrifices like sacrifice that's when some day they ask themselves there must be something about this belief in Jesus that is really real that would lead someone to give his or her life or the face I wish we could capture some of that in North America in the book that I mentioned earlier Wittenberg meets the world you talk about how followers of Jesus are called to practice that kind of faith that you were just mentioning and then that kind of way of being community a community that's not defined along. Ethnicities or nationalities but defined by Jesus Christ so how is how is the way that we are called to be community as the Church different than other ways of being a community I love this day it's called All Saints and not just like saints or just like us you know about all things and I believe that we as Christians have a unique opportunity that social movements and social justice movements don't have I think we understand at a deep level what sin is still if anyone says that he or she is without bias they deceive themselves and the truth is not in them but we can confess our sin and God was faithful and just will forgive our sins of racism Our sins of bias our sins of prejudice towards other people and God will provide for us a pathway forward that is built on reconciliation and reconciliation that Jesus Christ has won for us why because we couldn't figure out how to do it ourselves so I believe that we have a unique opportunity as Christian bear witness to the reconciling forgiving community making power of Jesus Christ you tell an interesting story at the end of your book about when you came as a new student a freshman taking Cordie a university aircon Corney college in Arbor and coming up with against that categorization of people tell tell us that story yeah so I like to describe it as the day I discovered I was black. Because you know I got to the I got to go to college and they had scamper census data for him and the 1st category was black my father is very black he's afro to make and you know black and proud Say it loud and Marcus Garvey and so I checked that box and the next. Category was white so my mother writes Scottish island see through. Transit so I checked that box and the next category was Spanish surname the last name is and Una Yes we have no idea how we got the name it's actually Sephardic Jewish but that wasn't on the course but nuances kind of Us banished kind of names I checked that box I think I had every box checked except maybe Asian Pacific Islander and the next day the. Guy who keeps the census and had. All these boxes you got to be one thing and so you know I wanted to myself why can't i just be the child of God that I am why do I have it and some kind of what I love about Christianity is that there are no boxes and boxes have been obliterated the dividing walls have been torn down I want God has done for us and Jesus Christ. Taught by our Lord and trusting in His promises we are told to pray Our Father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done On earth as it is in heaven give us the stay our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil for diners the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever amen. Receive the blessing of the Lord the Lord bless you and keep you the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you the Lord look upon you with his favor and give you peace. Amen. You never have to be angry you never have to be bitter you never have to be hostile see these are the unique things about the Christian life that make it so different living a life the world doesn't understand living a life where you can have a total relaxed mental attitude in spite of any circumstances you may face that's what we're going to show you on this new talk show here in your local area how to live that sort of life using a flatline a follower a line of troops that's a metaphor that's an analogy I'm going to show you some unique problem solving devices found in the Bible verify all of these problem solving devices with Scripture and you will see how God gives you tremendous protection from the outside sources of adversity before you ever create the source of stress so before we do let me tell you about myself I am recuse I'm from the city of Birmingham Alabama I grew up in Birmingham Alabama in a single parent home my mother was a divorce I never really knew my father never knew who he was and it was athletics that kind of helped me along the way I went to several different grammar schools as my mother farmy out to different guardians to watch over me and keep me and I can remember riding a bus to someone's house and staying there Sunday night into a Friday night and then Friday night riding a bus back home and staying with my mother on Friday night and Saturday night and then back to the Guardians House people that I didn't like people that I didn't care for several different people and they weren't always the nicest people in the world either and I guess when I was 13 I ran away but not away from home I ran away from the Guardians I ran to my home I went to my mom and I said I'm not staying with anyone else I'm staying with you and. She agreed to let me live with her and win ahead and graduated from grammar school and on into high school where a football coach took notice yes it was a football coach that was the closest thing to a father that I ever had I went to school you might know the name of the school it's called Woodlawn bit of a low d l a w there's been a movie made about Woodlawn there's a book published out by Marsh life on Woodlawn that's the screw that I went to a little bit before all that happened I was a freshman at Woodlawn high school and it would have been 1960 when I walked on campus as a freshman and I really knew nothing about life it was a big school who we had 2500 students in grades 9 through 12 and it was through athletics that our carved out my piece of history at Woodlawn high school I was involved in the football team and also on the track team and I was able to some good coaching and I don't know about the genetics but through the good coaching that I had and the great play makers that I played with I was able to make the all city football team the All State football team and honorable mention all-American football team a lot of different colleges recruited me came and asked me what I consider playing college football for them some as far out west as the University of Wyoming some as far east as Columbia University in New York City and some as far south as Florida in the state of Florida and I also was involved in track and field I was a weight man I threw the shot put and the discuss and if you're not familiar with that that's the big around 12 foot steel ball the 12th the 12 pound steel ball that you throw I was able to set. State record and that and I was able to set the state record in throwing the discus Consequently some colleges were interested in me being on the track team but I chose football instead and I signed a 4 year grant and a scholarship to play football and to say I had the big head is a little bit of the least of the problem I mean I can remember walking around my scoot telling people you want to touch me all-American you know and they just laugh at you and tell you what a jerk you are what idiot you are and they're right you know I found out when you're 18 you're worried about what people think about you and when you're 28 you don't care what they think about you and when you're 58 you'll find out nobody ever thought about Chanakya and so I was all worried about making a big impression with my friends living that sort of lifestyle and you know let me tell you something I wasn't dumb I was just stupid there's a difference you know dumb means you don't have a lot of brains and stupid means you've got I mean you just don't use them and I was a little stupid because I was more concerned with the details of life I was on a frantic search for happiness looking in all the wrong places and it all caught up with me my senior year when I did sign a 4 year granted a scholarship to play football for the University of Florida the Florida Gators down in Gainesville Florida and my coach was excited my school was excited the newspaper wrote articles about it put pictures in the paper and the Birmingham newspaper where I grew up but the only problem was that Florida wanted me to take something called the entrance test and if you've been to college you've had an s.a.t. Or a c. T. Test and I had to take an essay t. Test now if I did that because I came from out of state and listen I like I said I wouldn't. I was just stupid I didn't pay any attention to the thing I didn't even try and when Florida got my grades back I wrote a letter to my football coach and said is a scholarship is denied due to his academic credibility when he called me into his office and told me that I wouldn't go on to Florida I was counted shocked when I asked him what do you think I should do coach he said Well I think you should get ready to die. Die You mean like death or die yeah what do you tell my coach I said I'm not I feel great I'm not going to die so the lawyers you our son he said there's a war in Southeast Asia a place called Vietnam and since you're not going to college you're going to visit over there and they're going to get drafted you and and then when you get out in the jungle you're too big to have they're going to shoot you. And he was right coming out How are you going to have 250 pounds behind a piece of bamboo Lord immerse it die and I had kind of scared me and I said What should I do it he said You better get up there to those teachers and you better apologize you better get your grades up so and you got one semester left and he said it all depends on what you do this last semester. Well I'm went to my teachers and I said I'm sorry you know I'm no our clowned around I didn't pay attention but if you'll help me I pull my grades up and you want to know what every one of those teachers were in fact willing to help me as a matter of fact eventually later in life I met and married a phenomenal teacher and we've been married quite a while since that time but they help me my grades got back up where they should have been and that's when another school who came to me a school you might be familiar with it was called the University of Alabama they had a great coach named Paul Bear Bryant and they said if you can take that interest hasn't passed that we will give you a 4 year scholarship to come play football for us well I went down 3 took the test at a low and behold I passed. I was accepted to the University of Alabama as a freshman football player in 1964 that was a long time ago before you might even have been a figment of your grandmother's imagination I don't know but there I was on a great football team with players like Joe name of Broadway Joe and other celebrities on the Great Bear Bryant being the head coach and I would tell you it was a tough time there was a fair man but he was an extremely tough man and if you've ever seen the movie junction boys you may understand what I'm talking about it's not like it is today I mean today they give you water when you get hot on the practice trail in those days no water if you wanted water you had to ring the sweat out of your jersey and drink it I don't mean to gross you out but that's exactly what we did to get our lips wet or moist. And there I was no father a mother miles away who had just remarried I had a stepfather now when I was 19 and here I was at the University of Alabama and I didn't have that love relationship with the coach that I had back in high school there wasn't that father figure there it was more of a business and it was a tougher it wasn't necessarily any tougher but it was different and after my 1st year I made a critical mistake you know arrogant people make a lot of critical mistakes no one they don't listen to anybody because they think they're smarter than everybody else and an arrogant person will always justify why he's right and the rest of the world is wrong as call it self justification and at the end of the summer after my 1st year after my 1st year I got out got a job that summer made some money bought a car got an apartment started partying quite a bit hanging out with the wrong sort of people and when it came time for me to go back for fall practice at Alabama. I didn't go back I quit the football team I'm embarrassed to tell you that I'm not very proud of that I don't like being a quitter but I quit and I called up the coach and I told him I want to go to come back and he had a few choice expletives that he used with me and he said in no uncertain terms I should get myself back on that campus they were counting on me to be a starting officer tackle the next year and but I didn't go trotted off down the my way highway I want you to learn that word the my way that way and that's what arrogant people do they do it their way you know I think somebody sang a song I Did It My Way Well there are 2 ways to do things there's humans you point and there is the 5 you point and him and you've won as what you think you should do or what your friends think you should do and divine viewpoint is what God says you should do I was not a Christian that was not interested in God I was not anti God it wasn't that I didn't like God Nothing like that I was not an atheist as a matter of fact when I was a just a young man at 11 years old my mom sent me away to a Christian boarding a school for the summer and I heard about God It was a place down in this great wonderful state of Mississippi a place called French camp Mississippi down on the Natchez Trace and yes I heard about God and and I became acquainted with who God was but on never did meet Jesus Christ gods I know what it's on I wasn't old enough I didn't have enough information I never really quite figured that out so it was later in life that I became a Christian but I was not against God it wasn't that I didn't trust God or I didn't like God or I thought God was unfair I just never thought about God And so for 3 years after I left college. I went down the my way how a way in that frantic search for happiness trying to find happiness and different things different cars different girls different apartments different jobs but I could always lay in the bed at night and maybe you have this experience as well I could lay on the bed at night and there would be a spotlight in my head and it would show me the stupid things I did and I was ashamed of them but I didn't know how to make them go away I had no peace in my life because I knew that I was a sailor I knew that I had blown some great opportunities and I didn't know what to do about it and it was on a wonderful day on a Saturday that everything began to change 3 years after leaving Alabama and back home one Saturday afternoon I ran into a girl that had been a cheerleader at my high school her name was Jane and I mediately tried to get Jane to go out with me on a date I reminded her that we were friends in high school and we could probably have a great time on a date and but Jane wouldn't go she didn't want to go where I wanted to go I wanted to go to a movie to a theater graphic and you know member of those days you could go to the driving and theater park on the back row back there and she went in for that and so the next morning was Sunday you know assume many of you listening will be going to church this morning I hope you are I hope you're on a great local church with a great pastor and I didn't have a church I didn't go to church nobody in my family went to church and so on that particular Sunday morning I went to the river thinking that I could take our boat we could go water skiing and we could have a few coup ones up there and lie on the beach on the river but that didn't happen because that day that fateful day circumstances happened that changed my entire life no I did. And get in Iraq Heck no I didn't have a disaster nothing like that I mean the only disaster was the boat wouldn't run and it wouldn't run right and we were forced to come home early and by coming home early which was early on a Sunday afternoon I didn't want to be bored I mean I had to go back to work omes home Monday so I didn't want to be bored so I started calling around trying to get a date and I called up that girl Jane that I had run up on Saturday afternoon the oh high school cheerleader that I had no and this time when I asked her to go out she said yes if you want to go to church well I was a bit shocked to be church are you kidding me I mean I don't go to church and he was like if you want to date with me you're going to church and when you're hard up for a date I bet you can take Church right so I went and I thought when church is over then we'll we're going to do what you normally do on a day go get something to eat maybe go cruise around whatever and I went to that church not thinking about what was about to happen now there was a great pastor wonderful man but I didn't listen I mean I wanted to sit in the back I didn't want to get up too close I didn't want to get up towards the slaughter section you know and I sat in the back and didn't pay any attention and when it was over they gave an invitation they asked people to come forward and Jane asked me what I go forward and what I go down and talk to the pastor and I said No no I'll wait on you outside so Jane went down and took the pastor's hand and they knelt at a small altar and they began to pray for me and I was out in my car thinking why don't you come home so we can get out of here and this guy comes out walked over to where I am and he asked me was I indeed Rick Hughes and I said Yeah how do you know. He told me what his name was and said he was a current football player at Alabama and that he had been in the 8th grade when I was a sane year and he had always looked up to me he had always thought I was some kind of hero to him and he said that he signed a scholarship with Allen also and when he got to Alabama I wasn't there and he wondered where I went what happened to me. And as I tried to make a few excuses to why I was such a loser he told me that he had met someone that changed his life and he would like for me to get to know him I thought he was talking about a coach but he wasn't he said his name is Jesus Christ and he's the son of God and he has forgiven me for Mohsin and changed my life and when he said that I mean you could have knocked me over with a stick I sat there and listened to him tell me how God It saved him and changed his life and while he was talking the young girl Jane came out of the church and jumped on the cards that Kong were leaving and I bid this man farewell and we went to the house and I don't really thought it was going to be a party but it it wasn't it was a home Bible study. There that night at that home Bible study in the city of Birmingham Alabama and I heard a man from South Africa a man who spoke it was leaving that group and he said some things that pricked my heart he said some things that made me think about myself he asked a question that everyone had to answer if you died today would you go to heaven. And as I thought about that had I said No no I know I'm not going to heaven but I'm not planning on dying today either and he called on some students that were there a bit younger than me to talk about how Jesus Christ had changed their life and they all told the sighing story by sickly of how they became a Christian and how they knew if they die they would go to heaven I I wanted to know that who doesn't want to know that I mean I did I wasn't interested in becoming a preacher but I wanted to know how to go to heaven and and so that night when that meeting broke up I sought out that man from South Africa I spoke with him for a bit and he took me into a private room where we had a conversation with a Bible and he asked me if I Dad would I go to heaven and I frankly said no and he showed me in the Bible where it says the wages of sin is death and separation from God He said Do you know how to be forgiven for your sins and you know I like anyone else I thought well if I straighten up and fly right and don't do bad things and quit drinking quit smoking and quit cuss and quit fighting and you know I'll be Ok And he just laughed and he read to me a verse that says For by grace are you saying through faith it's a gift from God and not of works lest a man would brag about it and he showed me how I could have the free gift of eternal life he showed me that verse you know it probably for God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son so that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life and he asked me when I be willing to receive Christ as my Savior. You know I said well how do you do it he showed me in the Bible where says Whosoever should call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved and we knelt there in that room by that bed I don't remember where it was it's a significant room to me that's the night my life changed and I asked God to save me I told him that I was a center and that I wanted to be saved and I was willing to receive Jesus Christ as my Savior I don't know what I expected I didn't feel anything no buzz you know not light drink and some Red Bull no buzz I mean nothing angelic happened no harps and the lights and then flicker but when I got up off money he asked me did I mean it and I said Yes sir and he said a strange thing where is Jesus now and I and Heritage said I guess he's in me yes yes yes he said he's in you and he showed me in the Bible where he said I will never leave you I will never forsake you I given of them eternal life and they will never perish and neither shall any man ever pluck them out of my father's hand and he showed me where it says these things are written so that you might know that you have eternal life that night August 1967 I received eternal life I was born again that's my 2nd birthday my 1st birthday is all rest assured that's the day I came into the world that's the year that I was born 1945 the year of my birth. But the born again part in 1967 that's the year that I receive Christ as my Savior and I have since learned that either you're going to have 2 birthdays or you're going to die to death the 1st birthday is obviously the day you're born but the 1st death is the day you die it's opponent and a man wants to die after that to judgment and then the 2nd death that's found in Revelation 20 where said whoever's name was not found written in the Lambs Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire this is the 2nd death. Anyone who rejects Jesus Christ as a savior will leave the justice of God no choice it's not like God hasn't provided for them already already he sent his uniquely born son to pay for their saying He who knew no sin the Bible clearly says was made sense for us so that we could be made the righteousness of God through him. The entrance to having a relationship with God is through Christ Price said on the door through me manners and finance green pasture Yes it's through Christ that I entered and it's through Christ that I came to know my Heavenly Father The real father that on there I had the real father that guides me the father that I talk to on a daily basis the father that supports me and keeps me going and what an awesome thing to have a father like this God my Father and Jesus Christ my Lord and my Savior and that's the question that I have to ask you if you died today would you in fact go to heaven do you know that for a fact because the Bible says and 1st John 5 these things are written so that you might know that you have eternal life I know many of you that I'm talking to are church members many of you are fine wonderful upstanding community folk understand that but I need to ask that question Are you sure do you have the peace that you would be before God righteous in his eyes through Jesus Christ because there's no way that you can produce your own righteousness you can't impress God by being good the Bible even tells us there are none that are righteous no not one because all of our righteousness is a like a filthy rag in God's ass so maybe you don't drink maybe you don't smoke maybe you don't cuss maybe you are faithful maybe maybe you're the most moral wonderful man or woman in the community but without Jesus Christ you are lost and you will die a 2nd death. If you've never cleared that up you should because the Bible clearly says who so ever so called upon the name of the Lord shall they say and in the closing moments of this radio show you can simply valuer head and you can tell God the Father you're not competent you're not sure and you want to clear it up and you can say Father I believe in Jesus Christ and receive him as my Savior I commit my life to him so simple prayer but it's a prayer that will change you forever and the reason is because Jesus Christ will come and live inside of you God the Holy Spirit will live inside of you and you will have a relationship with God the Father like never before think about it pray about it do this while you have the time.
