We know how much you value your child's education we also know how hard it can be sometimes to balance the importance of education with the cost that's why we started the answer to which in campaign. 2 providing a Christian education is your host Rick Bender thank you for joining us today I'm your host Rick Bender today we are talking about Christian education we want to answer the question why do we possibly need Christian education why should we be thinking about Christian education it seems like interesting question to ask when we should know the answer but there are lots of things to discuss today we've got a panel of experts today with us Dr Lloyd I thank you so much for being with us would you give us just a kind of a 30000 foot view of who you are and why you're here all right Reverend Dr Lloyd principal of Southlake Christian Academy and chill of Vista California and Christian education has been part of my life for the last 32 years and we enjoy having the opportunity to impart the Word of God in academics to young people from kindergarten through 12th grade on a daily basis and it's not basically just a job or something to do but from the perspective of a minister given the responsibility of imparting the Word of God into our children to looking at Deuteronomy Chapter 6 and these words which I command the this day shall be a 9 heart and it also says thou shalt teach them diligently and to the children and it doesn't say once a week say for example on Sunday morning but when you sit in your house when you walk by the way when you lie down you rise up and that implies to me a daily responsibility and how do we do that and I see Christian education as if that will allow us to fulfill the scriptures that one and then many other scriptures that are so plentiful and. Word of God So we're looking at both the academic responsibility and spiritual responsibility and spiritual part is the disciple and we are making disciples we are teaching them God's ways on a daily basis and give them the opportunity to practice godliness in Christian character day in and day out Jacob Bell with thank you for joining us today I've been involved in Christian education k. Through 12 I was at a private Christian school growing up I went off to Bible school to start a Christian education degree program been involved love the environment love what are the ads do believe that that biblical mandate that Dr Boyd discussed is there when I look at the you know what the options are I think the biblical mandate kind of doesn't sist that the parents be involved in the educating of the children and if that's not an option that a private Christian school seems to be the plan b. And in reading the word I can't find a play and see that really gives us another option so I think that biblical mandates primary kind of why we're discussing Christmas right so an executive pastor where does I mean how does that fit within the school and the education system yes well we work hand in hand with the school making sure day to day that they have what resources they need to continue and this school has been in existence for well over 40 years and we know that it's last it and we pray it will continue to last and so our vantage point our role is to help to school at any costs in fact today we were a blast to be able to we're making some improvements to the school and just notified Dr Lloyd with that information today as we travelled up here very good is this really good lesson as and and I think that's in itself that's the the win is that we get to work hand in hand and see them grow and we work together as a pastor I would mention we He's a family life pastor and look and we want to make sure that our families our community have what the resources needed to continue on and so that's our role and we pray that if. Until the Lord Terese that he continues for 40 more years that's fantastic Well you know I have to say personally we raised our kids and in a Christian education we paid the freight so to speak worth every minute pastor for 25 years and I just felt you know as I had learned what the public school was doing . I struggle with that because I want my kids who are light and salt to be to be out there right but I realize they're you know may be maybe they are not ready for that see as a maybe they need be rooted in grounded still right in Christian education how do you feel about those things and whomever wants to speak 1st speak with those just have an open form I think you touched on it very very pointedly that we do want our children to be salt and light but I think where we kind of sometimes miss that is that making sure that they're fully equipped to be that resulted in and if we're putting our preschool children are young children or elementary school children an environment they're not equipped to be sold now that I have experienced speak through them they have love they have grace the they demonstrate behaviors but they're not equipped for that length lock that happens in a school I think that's where the Christian education comes in is preparing them and equipping love to see it as protecting I love that model but as a parent there's only so much protecting I can do right after I get to that point of fully equipping them to be solved right right yes I agree with Pastor Elwood. 100 percent we look at the statistics and we see what happens when parents will kind of use this understanding of salt and light and they say Ok well I want my children to be out there they are the salt of the earth and they are to shine their light let's write shine but not adequately equipped to be able to do this they're like the Lambs before the walls and they are slaughtered the statistics show us that well over 90 percent of them wash out and their kid to 12 years before they even head off to college they've lost out their spiritual washout and so I'm not happy. With those statistics and so what can we do to better prepare our children to be salt and light and I think that is the process of the cycle ship and then when they are sufficiently equipped and prepared to be able to be out in that environment well then they can release hopefully say by the time that they are entering into college which is you know a tough time but many of them have already washed up so our children have the kind of say protective environment while they're being nurtured while they're being trained educated and they're growing in they're strong enough to go out there and now all they can be sold and right in the world we know how much you value your child's education we also know how hard it can be sometimes to balance the importance of that education with the cost that's why we started the answer half off to a campaign we checked on your website one that we really really like we got very excited to put the. Price the number to call in the older child at half price is 844805757844805757 and you can get more information at the answer San Diego dot com And now back to providing a Christian education with Rick Bender Why do some parents think that for some reason a Christian education might be less than a world class education I mean I've actually heard that as educators and you've probably heard that as well more than once why why do we have that interesting Lee enough they they are mis educated they don't have the proper education to realize that if if your child is is going to excel they will have the opportunities to excel in higher learning and higher education some look at sports and they say well if my son or daughter goes to this school then they'll get looked at I were involved in our community in our son's play in our local you know baseball community league and why I know this much that if my kid is good enough in any sport there's going to be a scout looking for them and so whether or not they go to a public school or they go to a Christian school with a Christian Lee they're going to get found out and they're going to get sought after in fact we've had students that were so good in one particular sport golf for example back several years back that they were sought out by the CIA have put him into the league and represented a Christian academy it was competing against you know the need of this stuff they were competing against Eastlake Torrey Pines are competing against all of those individuals so they they're not really finding out the facts that Christian education does offer these things as well and for them to go that route I think it's a cop out cop out to the parents that they're not willing to sacrifice and that's what it is for the teachers for our principal he can be making a whole lot more money and live in a different lifestyle but it's where we all make the sacrifice to fulfill Deuteronomy 6 do you. Do you find that there's a cost needed that conversation with the parent to to deal with that balance between spirituality in this world class education and I'm thankful for the opportunity to engage parents at this level and let them know kind of a and apologetic or defense for why we do what we do and some do need this reaffirmation on this you know is this a proper decision is a good enough is it going to be. They're going to receive the proper level of academic rigor in our school and we say oh my goodness look at our track record for years and years our students have been able to enter college while they were in high school to be in their post-secondary education while their high school we even had a student to have the opportunity to complete his associate's degree before he got his high school diploma students while they're in high school to be accepted to Harvard to go there and get straight A's who want to become professionals in many different arenas in the legal field in the medical field to become active in ministry and so we're very thankful for the the level of scholastic achievement and the spiritual components that are being placed into our children to become leaders in every sector of society so it's speaks for itself I believe pastoral what you touched on the point of protecting our kids and and that's the things that are taught now do you want to touch on a couple of those things that are just horrific and new in the things that the kids will be protected from I mean there are some there are some pretty crazy stuff now in the public sector where there is and I'm definitely I definitely would say that I keep current on and I try not sometimes I'm going to risk assessment career in and when I look at some of these things sometimes they sound theatrical and so sometimes we bring up some of these topics it's like well you're just the slippery slope or it's not that bad I really I think that Dr Lloyd can definitely explain some of the stuff that he's seen has been reported. To him that's been evident in the public school environment so I'm I'm not current but almost anything that is being presented as righteous that it's against the biblical model for righteousness that's going to be a challenge for me that's going to be a problem now I can put them on a scale and go This is worse than that and this is the worst and this is extreme and this is this is terrible and I would never allow my child to be exposed to this I can put that on a scale but anything that doesn't live up to that right a standard is something that I'm going to try to protect my children from there will be discussion about passing new legislation that has been passed rather and that school district is going to be teaching some things to children starting at grades 5 and on regarding sex education and they're trying to do this in such a manner where parents are not aware what's being taught and I don't want to get too detailed or graphic but it's not in an area that should be touched with children they shouldn't be taught by by people we don't know I'm teaching them things that are very graphic and things that really should be taught to adults and or getting to that place and in fact it's very scary that this is getting pushed many bills are being passed without our awareness without us knowing what's going on things such as gender bred man teaching children the choice that they can be whatever they want to be as much as that's a great cliff shape but when the world takes something wholesome and turns it not wholesome it really distorts really the plan of God It distorts the plan of the parents and what God has in store for our community and that's what's sad that at the tender age of you know if that 5th grade will be what 9. 10 rather around that age group they're being taught these things in some even as early as preschool and kindergarten and it's very sad so that. There is a concern that we do not allow the foxes into the hen house so to speak and we interview every family every student that is going to be a potential enrollee into our academy we want them to we want our parents to feel safe and that whoever's coming in is not going to be a threat to their child so that being said we have children from all over our community that come to our school and we let them know these are our guidelines anybody can come but these are our guidelines if you go outside of the the priest.
