The scene of horror. 11 00 a. M. , the first reports coming in. Possible shots that were fired. Were getting a suspect, last seen wearing a all black clothing. Witnesses outside describing a barrage of bullets. All of a sudden, boom, it just it was like right here. Boom, boom, boom. They said theyre on the loose. I was right behind the building. And i heard all the shots. Reporter Juan Hernandez was he came out when he heard the gunfire. Shots going off like crazy, just one right after the other. And as i came out, then we had seen a black suv flying down the street. What i saw it looked like one guy was wearing military fatiguing. Have a suspect dressss in camo, mas helmet, kevlar. Getting patdowns to make sure attackers werent blending in with the crowd. And then 45 minutes after that first call, this Chilling Police radio dispatch. The suspect possibly all three fled in a black suv. These are people that came prepared that they were dressed and equipped in a way to indicate that they were prepared and they had they were armed reporter families gathering at the scene getting Text Messages from loved ones. Police escorting evacuees to school buss. Police absent hours looking for victims and any explosives the attackers might have left behind. The scene still active hours later. Authorities moving in to remove a suspicious device. One of those devices is believed to potentially be an explosive device. This afternoon, a massive manhunt for up to three armed gunmen, california came to a head. We are pursuit of the suspect vehicle. Weve got shots fired out the our affiliate kabc on the scene hovering above this black suv that the authorities had been searching for for three hours. Multiple shots fired. Reporter windows blown out. The front door ajar and police crouching at a safe distance away. But this was the shootout our cameras missed that this neighbor captured on his phone. As police run into position, single file up across the lawn. Five minutes later, two Armored Vehicles approach the suv from both sides. You basically box a person in. Theres been discussions all day about potential explosives. Even the police chief mentioned there might be a pipe bomb at the initial crime scene. They have not told us yet exactly what those contained and if they were left by the suspects. Army pilots have been killed in a helicopter Authorities Say the two pilots from the 101st Airborne Division were flying a twoseat Apache Helicopter when the chopper went down 12 miles south of fort campbell. Reporter reena and kendis, police are now identifying the two suspected gunmen who are now dead as 27yearold Tashfeen Malik and 28yearold syed farook. Officers say they were a couple, either engaged or married. But that they planned this attack at least thats what it appears. It was coordinated and well planned before they went into the building behind me you can still see a Large Police Presence here at this hour. Officers are still going through the Office Building. Within the last hour, weve heard three explosions. We were told they would be they were concerned the couple may have left some sort of improvised explosives behind possibly. Theyve been going through the building and want to make sure its deemed safe as the Investigation Continues. Brandi, even at this early hour and several hours after this rampage took place, there are still several scenes right now police are investigating. What are they doing right now . Reporter this is one of three major Police Scenes we are in. Obviously, this is where it all started with the shooting spree. When the shootout with authorities happened, it was only about two miles from where we are. Thats another active scene. You saw that suv just riddled with bullets. Officers surrounding it, making sure there werent any suspects that were still at large. They originally thought there may be three gunmen. Now officers confirmed they believe there were only two gunmen and both of those gunmen are dead. Then there is a third search going on at a home five to six miles from where we are. Farook and malik lived together. Authorities said that the home is in the name of farook but theyre searching to make sure there may be evidence there that could help them determine a motive. Thats obviously the big question. Was a county employee. Environmental specialist. He was at this meeting but then left 30 minutes before the shooting spree began. This afternoon, a massive manhunt for up to three armed gunmen, california came to a head. We are in pursuit of the suspect vehicle. Our affiliate kabc on the scene hovering above this black suv that the authorities had been searching for for three hours. Weve got multiple shots that were fired. Reporter windows blown out. The front door ajar and police crouching at a safe distance away. But this was the shootout our cameras missed that this neighbor captured on his phone. [ gunshots ] what sounds like fireworks is a fire fight. A body lying in the street feet away, that black suv riddled with bullets. One suspect still inside. As police run into position, single file up across the lawn. Five minutes later, two Armored Vehicles approach the suv from both sides. You basically box a person in. So with the car in the front, a car in the back and many times one on the side, theres no place for the car to go. Reporter followed by a vehicle called a tack cat, armed with a ballistic shield. The whole point of Armored Vehicles in a Law Enforcement this particular event where you take the vehicles and you use them as cover to protect you from obviously other firearms or potentially other explosives. One male, one female, both armed with Assault Rifles and handguns and dressed in what police described as dark tactical gear. They were dressed in kind o assault style clothing. To term it. The San Bernardino police chief coming out just a short time ago saying they still do not know exactly what the motive may be and they cant go as far as to say that this was in any way isis inspired. The hunt though for suspects ended just about four hours in a hail of bullets on a residential street after the initial take a listen. Roughly 12 hours after this deadly shooting spree began, at least 14 People Killed behind me in the building. Just about a half mile down the street. And officers have already Just Announced at least the identities of both the suspect gunmen. They say these two were a young couple and they were armed with Assault Rifles and handguns. And investigators believe one of them was targeting his fellow employees. It ended as it began in a hail of gunfire captured on this cell four hours of terror in San Bernardino after a gunman stormed an Office Building killing 14 people. The final confrontation on a neighborhood strt, a dark suv riddled with bullets. Feet away. Another dead inside. Of the suspects that are dead is a female. They are both armed with Assault Rifles. Reporter Law Enforcement talked down the suspects just two miles from the initial attack at the Inland Regional Center. Multiple shots that were fired. The people working there called families. She called us from in the hospital. But shes doing better. Shes okay. Shes alive. I have a suspect dressed in camo, mask, helmet, kevlar. Reporter investigators say the shooters targeted a workshop and training event inside the center. The building is still off limits. The bomb squad investigating a suspicious device authorities believe could be an explosive. The Group Holding that meeting here was the San Bernardino county Public Health department. Weve learned that syed farook was an environmental specialist with that department. He was there at that meeting this afternoon during that training. I want to ask you, what is the focus for police at this hour . We know there were some explosions that took place. What can you tell us about that . Reporter officers are searching the suspects home and searching this building because over the last couple hours, weve been hearing what police explosions. They were worried the suspects left some sort of improvised explosive devices throughout the building. Theyre doing this as a caution. They found what they believe may be explosives. They detonated those. However, they have not told us yet exactly what those devices contained and if they were, in fact, left by the suspects. So interesting to hear that because clearly, there is a level of planning even the police chief was mentioning earlier. Many are shocked by this. We did receive five Adult Patients which stemmed from the original incident in San Bernardino. And all five do remain in the hospital. That there was a shooter outside shooting, that shes locked in in her office. She said i love you and i came over here. Reporter she made it out of the building along with others. Evacuated, guided by armed Police Officers on to buses to take them to safety. The latest here from loma linda hospital is they received five Adult Patients two now listed in critical b stable condition. Two listed in fair and one at this point is still being assessed. Also, were told that they received a bomb threat early in the afternoon that was cleared about an hour later. The report details an unauthorized person approaching president obama at a dinner event and investigators say security at Vice President joe bidens home in delaware was breached when four people on a fishing trip were able to walk into bidens backyard. They were only noticed when neighbors called the secret investigators call the secret service an agency in crisis and the Panel Recommends their responsibilities to be scaled back to concentrate on protection. Also breaking right now, two u. S. Army pilots have been killed in a Helicopter Crash in rural tennessee. Authorities say the two pilots were flying a twoseat Apache Helicopter during a Training Mission when the chopper went down 1 miles south of fort campbell. The cause is under investigation. Police say 28yearold syed farook and 27yearold Tashfeen Malik opened fire at the San Bernardino social Services Center killing 14 people. The couple was later killed in a shootout with police. We were watching tv and hear gun fires left and right. And we my grandmother says go hide in the bathtub. Go hide. I finally get into the bathtub because theres marble walls so and we did that and after that, after a few minutes when the gunfire started to slow down, an officer came and said to get out of our house. Theres a bomb in the front of our house. Reporter authorities feared the suspects threw potential explosives from the vehicle. Which they also believe may have been boobytrapped. As the bomb squad inspected the potential bombs, other officers on the hunt for a potential third suspect who may have fled the scene. Residents helping to spot a suspicious man taken in for questioning. Him showing up a couple times, concentrating on going down this alley. Another person coming down the alley with something strapped to him. They didnt get a good look what he had, but its it is a bit innerving. Reporter as the Investigation Continues into the night, residents are counting their blessings. Witnesses say there were bullet holes in their homes but no one was injured. I was a little bit scared because i left my kids here thinking they would be safe because i was hoping they would have fled from the area and not apparently they stayed in the area in the vicinity. So it was scary. Reporter one officer was hurt in the shootout. We are told his injury is not lifethreatening. Officials say that this neighborhood will be will remain shutdown well into tomorrow for a very lengthy investigat live in San Bernardino, leeann suit area, abc 7, eyewitness news. Initially they thought there were three suspects on the run and whittled it down to two. At least 14 people were killed and 17 wounded in the bloody rampage at a social Services Center. Two suspects are dead a man and woman killed in a fierce gun battle with police after a high speed chase. One identified as syed farook. Believed to be a county Health Department inspector. We are where it all l gan where the shooting spree started. Just a few minutes ago, police have now identified both of the suspected gunmen as a young couple. They were both armed with Assault Rifles and handguns. And one of them opened fire on his fellow colleagues. [ sirens ] of gunfire captured on this cell phone video. [ gunfire ] four hours of terror in San Bernardino after a gunman stormed an Office Building killing 14 people. The final confrontation on a neighborhood street. A dark suv riddled with bullets. A person with a gun shot down feet away, another dead inside. Of the suspects that are dead at the scene, one is a male. One is a female. They are both armed with Assault Rifles. Were getting a suspect last seen wearing a black ski mask, l black clothing carrying a shotgun. Reporter witnesses describe a barrage of gunfire. Kind of sounded like a shooting range. There called their families. She was shocked and scared. She said, i just want to tell you that i love you. She called us from the hospital, but shes doing better. Shes alive. I have a suspect dressed in camo, mask, helmet, kevlar. Reporter investigators say the shooters targeted a workshop and training event inside the center. The bomb squad investigating a suspicious device authorities believe could an explosive. In fact, in the last few hours, weve been hearing officers detonating potential explosives inside that building. Still a very active scene. They want to make sure nothing has been left behind that could hurt anyone. Weve learned the Group Holding that meeting behind me was the San Bernardino county Public Health department. The Police Department just announcing that syed farook was an environmental specialist there. And police and several witnessss say he was a athat meeting and then left. Police say some said he was angry. Roughly 30 minutes before the shooting began. Bernardino, brandi hitt, abc news, kendis and reena . Anything further about a motive . Is this potentially isis inspired . Can we go that far at this hour . Reporter thats pretty far to go right now according to officers. Theyre not ruling it out but still have a lot to investigate. Was this an angry employee firing back at colleagues or more to it . We do know Tashfeen Malik and syed farook both fairly young were either in a relationship as far as a fiancee, or they were possibly married. Officers dont know but know they were together. They were a couple. And officers also originally thought they were searching for three suspects. They were wearing tactical gear. They also had assault style rifles and handguns. The possibility of an explosive. These were people who came to kill. Horrific day, Law Enforcement is breathing a sigh of relief in that they got two suspects because imagine if those people werere still on the loose with no suspects. In the Mass Shootings weve seen at least in the last couple years, we just havent seen women involved. Thats something that well be closely looked at and analyzed.
