Bring in the man many are calling the big winner, senator marco rubio in colorado this morning. Gogo morni, senator. Lots of big headlines saying you were the winner last night. Rubio soars. Hodo you capitalize on this moment . Well, first of all, i dont want to overstate it. It was a debate. Theres one coming up in another 14 days and if we dont do well there, none of this wont matter. This is a long process. For us it was another chance to express ourselves before the american people. I hoped d we had had more of a chance to go in dedepth on se of the policy issues before america. We didnnt get a chance to do that as much and hopefully we will in thnext debate but i was happy to be a part of that debate. I felt good coming out. You and your former mentor, jeb bush, went at it on your attendance record in the senate last night and governor bush doubled down on that and hit you again in the spin room and danny diaz says u dont have a record of accomplishment. The reality is marco rubio hasnt demonstrated hes qualified to be president. His team is even calling you the how do you respond . Well, look, another candidates decided that the way theyre going toin is by attacking me then theyre going to pursue that line. Its not the way i run my campaign. I wont change my campaign because of a change someone else made convinced attacking me is the way forward. Ill continue to tell people who i am, what im for. There are policy differences between us. Well discuss those. Americans deserve toto hear the. But im not goining to change my campaign and not going to change how i feel about governor bush. Jeb is my friend. I have admiration for him. Im not running against him. Im running for president. As i said last night and repeatedly throughout the campaign. Ill tell people what ill do if they give me chance to be president. Well let the Voters Decide who the right choice is. I feel confident about that. How aut on the underlying issue of your missed votes. Other senators have missed far fefewer. Isnt it possible to do better and dont have voters have a right to be concerned. A couple thingsgs. I enjoy and im honored to be a senar from florida. One of the most meaningful things i do is the constituent service aspect. That never makesinto the press. Whether its the veteran who has to prove theyre disabled despite the fact theyre losing two legs or elderly couple thats become victim of a tax fraud. We help pepele every single day. The most important job commander in chief. Donald trump not proven an understanding of the issues or preparation neceary, you said. Woulyou say that about the other frontrunner, ben carson . Well, whether its donald or ben or anybody else, this Campaign Gives everybody a chance to learn about these issues and to express themselves and thats the other thing i said as part of that statement is that can change. I mean people can continue to learn about these issues and over time demonstrate a knowleledge but they dont have it now . Before america. Look, in other debates weve had we havent seen that sort of discussion from the other candidates. That doesnt mean that they cant or wont. Comfortable about the fact with all due respect of all the other candidates running im the one thats shown the best judgment and best understanding on the foreren policy threats before our untry in the 2 2t century and hopefully all of our candidates will grow to be able to do thatatas w well. You saw Hillary Clintons team sending o o a tweet. Her brushing off theheebate. In 30 seconds why are you the best candidate to o ke her on . Well, first of all i found it outrageous using video from a benghazi hearingnga hearing abououthe loss of four amemecan lives to put up sothing trivial like h h brushing someththining off f shoulder. Thatatas a seriousus heariribout a serious issue. As far as taking h h on, i can tell you this, if im our nominee well be the p of the future and theheemocrats wi exposed as the governrnnt big ias from the e st. Many months to go, senator rubio. Thanks for your time this morning. Thanks, george. Lets break this down with our political team, jon karl and matt dowd are here. You saw senator rubio going on offefee. Was he t t winner . Night,t, george. He was strong. He was consistent throughout the debatete he seemed to b bthe best prepared and he vanquishededis primary rival at this point, jeb bush. Jeb cameight a ahim on that sue of missed votes and, frankly, it was rubio who silenced bush on that wi that line. Matt dowd, even some ofofeb shs supporters are being ququed saying he was crushed. Can he come back . It wasnt just the moment whicici think was a very bad moment where he e s slayed by his apprentice in the course of this. Its also almost every single answer he gives. He doesnt look like hes prepepeded. The firstwo debates we had, he didnt look prepared. This one he doesnt. We thohoht bush was the liability fohim. Boy, ultimately re learng jeb may be the liability from him and gone from an exclamation point to a questiomark and hes headed to a period. If he doesnt improve in the next debate he might not make it to iowa. He might drop out i think that was such a weak performance if he does noturn it around with the nt debate there will be questions about whether or not he will meanwhile, the e frontrunners, not dominate the debate last night but i thought that might not have hurt them at all. I dont thinkt hurt them fundamentally y in the race but the problem at this point in the campaign you have to grow your susupport d start moving towards momentum and the only two people that came out with momentum was rubio and ted cruz had very good moments and i think he has momentum. His big momt was attacking the modetors and moderators coming under a lot of heat last migh absolutely and everybody else piled in, Chris Christie had a good moment going after the moderators but ted cruz did himself well in this debate and so did Chris Christie so although rubio, the clear winner i would say those two did themselves quite well. Robin. You know, george, one of e Big Questions for our viewers asking on twitter and facebook was also about the moderators. Diane said less queions and more time to give an answer. Our problelems cant be fixed with 30 to 60second sounund bites. It seems like the candidates were saying the same thing. Fundamentally the problem is theres too many candidates on the debate format. Too many candidates on the stage go ahead. Dont forget it was donald trump and ben carson who insisted this only be two hours. Ten candidates, two hours, closing atements, its a matter of math. One test is getting out your answers 30 or 60 secondnds. Getting that message out. This puts them to that test. Thats trueue, george the one person who was mentiononed a great deal last night but wasnt even on that stage was hillary clinn. Abcs cecilia vega is covering her campaign and, cecilia, what does last night meanan to her. Right after the media Hillary Clinton wawas the send most targeted person on that stage, i would say. You know, the republicans had the chance to go after each other and many opportunities, instead they went right after her r but, younow, she i think is one of the biggest winners last night, the more they duke itit out and more internal fighting there is she stays above the fray and come that generaelection that is going to help. She was really weighing in last night. Even though she wasnt the. She was having a good time. I think she was liking it. She was li texng her supporters throughout the debate and live tweeting and one tweet e retweeted she said she was loling about the debate and that clip of hillany clinton brushing off her shoulders, marco rubio didnt think that was so funny. A lot of h supporters thought that was really funny and that was the big zing from Hillary Clinton last night. Cecilia, thank you. We see if she regrets using that hearing. Coming underere from marco rubio. Now to that highprofile prep School Sexual assault case in new hampshirire. 20yearold owen labe is set to be s senteed today after he was convicted in late august. Abcs gio benitez is in concord, new hampshire, for us this morning. Good morning, o. Reporter robin, good momorning to you. For owen labrie these could be his finalal hours of freedom if the judge decides to put him away for more than a decade. This morning, owen labrie back in court, a judge deciding ether the former prep School Student convicted this summer of sexual assaulting a schoolmate will spend up to 11 years behind bars or no time at all. The judge poring over these presentencing documents filled withharacter letters froro iends an family, even showing photographs of a smiling young labrie s sn here p p pying violin a child,d,olunteering and siting harvard whereree was admitted with a full scsclarship. But they alsoo show a d dker side, his mother reveang that afafr h he wasirst interrogated when a 15yearolddschoolmate accused h h of rape, the then 18yearold was placed on a 24hour suicide watch for four days. Shaking and sobbing for seven to eight hours. His mother now pleading too the judge writing he has been punished beyond a degree that anyone else could possibly understand. But i see it in the fear and sadness in once bright and joyful eyes. Labrie maintains he never had sex with the girl. But this august in an emotional trial labries accuser tearfully took the stand. We have distorted her voice. I was raped. Reporter a jury acquitting him of t mosost serious Forcible Rape charges which could have put him behind bars for 60 years. Guilty. Reporter but convied him of sever charges including misdememeanor se Assault Charges and aelony conviction of luring a minor by a computer. Now just hours away from sentencing, his accusers family hopoping labrie serves time. The harm that was done will not be solveved no matter how my years he spends inin jail. They d do want it to be a consequence, though. Reporte and this afternoon a victims impact statement will be read here in court and that when were told the judgeill makeis decision but whatever it is, both lives have been changedforever, robin. All right, gio. We bring in abcs chief legal analyst dan arams and, dan, of course, his lawyers are asking for probation. How likely is that . You know, i have no idea what this judge is going to do. Anything from probationo up to 11 years is possible. Look, in a typical case with these charge, remember, here youre talking about what hes beenonvicted of are crimes related to theact that he was 18 and she was 15. Those are all the convictions in connection with this case. So typically youd be talking abt no jail time, probation, but you got two other factors here. Number one the judge c take the totality of the circumstances into consideratation, this judge can look at this and y, yeah, but this isnt a typical case w wre you have two consenting 18 and 15yearolds even t tugh there was no convicicon and, numbe tw its highh prprile. The world iss watching this judge d i t tnkt woululd take lot of guts and im not saying that in a positive way for this judge to say, im not going to give m any jail time. Is that fair because its hiprofile. These cases are around all the time. This is one for whatever reason has gotten this. Attention. Should thahat be a factor . It shouldnt but judges are man and wn they look at these kinds of cases, they try to look at them only but it is almost impossible not to think of what willl the reaction be if, if i do this. He maye asked to register lifetime as a sexual sex offender. I think he likely wil be if not for life for a very long time just on the conviction on the fell in i alone thats not even the sentence, thats almost mandatory. Now, if hes able to get the felony thrown out later or if hes able to challenge later on but hes going to be registered as a sex offender for a really long time, no matter what, unless he c get the felony thrown out. He can go back again and again and try to get that reduced. Try but its very hard. I mean thats pretty thats pretty mandatory, his best hope there is trying to somehow get this felony thrown out. Numbmber one lony, the rest are misdemeanors. You really have no idea like the rest of us whats going to happen. If you were going to ask me to guess i guess hes goingo get jail time because of all the factors, maybe a couple years total but i i dont know. Well see today. Shows what a complicated case it is. We are counting down the halloween and one of this years hottest costumes is sparking a pretty heated backlash. Its the Caitlyn Jenner cosset and wig set and has a lot upset. Abcs gio benitez has the story. Reporter Caitlyn Jenner, her striking vanity fair cover, one of the most problem rabble moments of the year b but not surprising the image is an inspiration for countless Halloween Costume. Eople want a Halloween Costume that makes them look good and theyre wanting to look cool and put across the idea that they know whats going on in t the world or thinking about big issues. Reporter retailers like wholesale halloweenostumes and anytime costumes deciding to pull the costumes from their site this week but controversy s been brewing since august whwhen the first call me caiaitlyn costume came on the market many taking their outrage to twitter saying its the most offensive ever and others demanding retailers not sell it. Someeople see that caiyn jenner ctume as potentially a littleoffensive, maybe a little inceesensitive but then other people see it the opposite y, they say, well, this is a wayo honor her and say that a superhero. Reporter caitlyn has said shes not offended but now in a bold new piece in vanity fair Monica Lewinsky weighing in as someone who knows all too well halloween jokes writing its complicated when someone starts the year as a private person and by october ends up in the costume aisle. The questio of whats edgy and topipical vers whats offensive and tacky is a fine line. Celebrities have always used halloween as an opportunity to let loosend dress up as their hollywood counterparts but critics say that costumes like jenners dont just make fun of her but the entire Transgender Community andewinsky is reminding us there is a fine line between clever and cruel. For Good Morning America, gio benitez, abc news, new york. Caitlyn doesnt mind. I guess theres a fine line but lighten up. Its halloween. Relax. Lets go or to am all right, guys. Well be talking about see confusion and questions about the American Cancer Societys new mammogram guidelines which recommended that women do n get screened regularly until they are 45. Well, now three leading Breast Cancer doctors haveritten an saying they profoundly disagree with these changes. Abcs dr. Jennifer ashton is here with more and, jen, we discussed these new screening guidelines. I haveve been outspoken about my personal situation, a mammogram gave me the best chance of surviving cancer because i went at age 40. There is a lot of anger over these new guidelines. Walk us through what these ctors are saying. So this is really the story behindhe sty, amy and to start with, there were three major points that didnt get spoken about last week when these recommeations came out. To start with, lets talk about the words that were used wh their recommendations. For the average risk woman. Well, the word average is a problem because the reality is the majority, the majority of Breast Cancer 80 or more. In women 40 to 44 is diagnosed in women who yesterday were average, today you have Breast Cancer. That was me. So thats a problem. Number one, the number two numbers they crunch numbers and evuated data. The fact of the matter is that their risk of Breast Cancer is 1 in 166. Thats a significant number and lastly, this issue of if you delay the first mammo, what will come along with at . Delayed diagnosis, larger tumors, tumors that will need surgery, more chemo, more radiation. They only lookedt death in those recommendations, there is otr things to coider. We need to consider quality of life. Now, a lot of experts have been very vocal about how these are confusingng and dangerous for all the reaso you just mentioned. What do women need to know . Well, listen, theyre going to continue too evolve. Thats a good thing in medicine and science. We always reevaluate the data and a mammogram is n the perfect test. For right now this needs to be individualized, not sweeping generalization and there are otherrofessionsradiologist, pathologist, gynecologists, breast con cole gists on the front lines of this who need to have their voice heard and when you talk about emotion because this is emotional, stop using fear and anxiety as a medical risk. I think thats insulting to women. What makes women anxious is not having a good conversation. Theres a lot more anxiety whenen you get that Breast Cancer diagnosis and cerertainly a in a. Better position if you find it early. Absolutely. Well continue to follow this. Dr. Jen, we appreciate it thank you so much. Michael, over to you. Thank you, amy. Now, you know, i thinkere all line family right here. Absolutely. Absolutely. And alwa goodnatured joking and occasionally harmless fright. Teasing. Some not so harmless. I didnt anybody would ever hold a grudge. Oh, yeah, no, we do. You know, apparently people do. Lets take a look at this. Aaagh aagh. Halloween 2014.
