Calling in his injuries after taking a bullet to apprehending a suspect. Lukas 18 year old Isaiah Mothershed has with attempted shooting a police Sioux City Police are now sharing the frightening details on how it all happened. Abc9 News Reporter jess plue brings us the very latest. Sioux city Police Arrested 18yearold Isaiah Mothershed and several others early sunday morning in connection with a string of robberies in sioux city. But while officers rounded up the suspects and a large amount of stolen property found at valley park apartments. Things took a turn. Due to a lack of vehicles to transport, he was allowed to come back into the apartment and we accomodated him by allowing him to sit on a couch, says doug young, sioux city p pice chief. Duriri a press conference at Police Headquarters monday, young said mothershed was handcuffed. But was able to pull a hidden 40 calibur handgun from in between the couch cushions and shoot at police. Ryan moritz, a 13 year veteran of the force, has hit in the leg. He was still cuffed, his hands were behind his back reach down into the crevase thats in the couch and when officer moritz went to remove him, he turned sideways and had the gun in his hand and fired from the seated position, says young. In the scuffle that followed, mothershed also shot himself in the leg. No officers fired shots during the incident. Officer moritz is okay chief young says he was treated and released from a local hospital. Lukas mothershed was transported to a hospital as well but no information on his medical status has been shared. Mothershed is no stranger to police. In july, he was arrested for kidnapping and assaulting two men over a drug debt. Those charges were eventually dropped due to a lack of evidence. Lukas now valley park appartments, where the incident took place, has released a statement in regards to the shooting. Property manager paige frye says our team here at valley park would like to ensure our residents and the surrounding community that we are working with law forcement to ensure the safety of our residents, as this is o number one priority. The criminal conduct of any person on our property, guest or resident, will be addressed to the fullest extent permitted by law.
