Those words clear the way for caltrans to install a temporary fix for the 32 busted bolts on the bridge. Caltrans would strategically place them to keep them from moving up and down. The shims are adequately replace the function of the failed anchor rods. The time line, up to a week and a half to install the shims and another 2 to 4 weeks to notify the public, airports, and businesses about the change. That may be enough time to get the bridge open just after labor day. All the while, caltrans will be working on a term innocent fix. Using the saddle you see here to stabilize the bridge for good. Ultimately, it will be up to a three person committee, including the head of caltrans to decide whether to go ahead with the opening around labor day.
