virginia where they bought camping supplies and a tent. after that, police felt she had dropped off the face of the earth until they got a call from san diego police. >> i saw her there. she was being questioned by the police. behind her, i noticed a huge amount of luggage and just carry items, like bags, and definitely looked like it was a lot more for one person to carry. >> reporter: in a lucky long shot, a woman shopper where jaycee works for a wells fargo branch, recognized the man and girl from pictures the shopper saw on tv, and called police. the couple had been living in a make-shift encampment nearby. >> in the mornings, there's a lot of people who panhandle, especially in the area where -- the place where they found her. so i'm pretty sure, as i walked in the morning, i saw them in there. >> reporter: police found a tent at the camp site they bought at the wal-mart and found the car that was missing from tina smith's home at san francisco international airport. not yet known when brittany will be reunited with her family, but police say they would like to get her back as soon as possible. if easily surrenders his right to extradition, he could be back this week. thank you. sure. >> the abducted girl found yesterday in san francisco is said to be reunited with her family tonight. fifteen-year-old gene boringoff was spotted by her cousin by chance on division street. the girl with her uncle. the cousin called police, and police tracked down the two. charles berlinghof arrested on warrants. a home invasion robbery led to an exchange of gunfire in san francisco. this happened on golden gate avenue near the university of san francisco last night. the victim told police he was letting the friend out when four men rushed the door and broke in. they stole a wallet and electronics. someone opened fire at the victim who shot back. no one was hit. in another home invasion, a 13- year-old girl was stabbed repeatedly allegedly by a 14- year-old. vacaville police say the suspect broke in early this morning where the victims were sleeping. he is accused of sexual assaulting the girl and stabbing the sibling. the girl somehow escaped and ran to a neighbor's house for help. >> police are going to look into that as well. in just two hours, four armed robberies, all in the east bay and all apparently connected. we're in walnut creek with why street crimes are on the rise. >> reporter: ann, during the past several months, there's been a string of robberies at stores, restaurants and now on the street. victims have been robbed at gunpoint, some kicked to the ground. walnut creek police tonight say, unfortunately, that's not so unusual during this busy holiday season. >> streets are filled with holiday shoppers; and according to walnut creek police, this is also the time of year when street crime spikes. >> so we've been providing a number of extra patrols in the areas where these robberies have occurred as well as in the areas where we think they could happen in the future. we've made a number of arrests, issued a couple of search warrants, and our detectives are out there undercover -- working undercover as well. >> live 34, go to the greenery. >> reporter: officers looking for suspects involved in a string of robberies in the past few months at restaurants and stores. video surveillance captured two of them at one of the crime scenes. >> very vague description. not sure who we're looking for, but last time it was a black male with a thin build, with a dark hooded sweatshirt, driving a newer model toyota that was either gray or black. >> reporter: the suspects and getaway car fit the same description of the victims of friday night's crime spree. in less than two hours, there were four street robberies in walnut and lafayette. police say the same suspects robbed a man of an ipod. forty minutes later, another man was robbed later on south california boulevard near bonanza. then they robbed a woman of cash at olympic boulevard and newell avenue. their last location in lafayette where they kicked a woman to the ground and took her purse. shoppers have reason to be concerned. >> my bag was called zipped up. >> you're always aware of -- >> yeah, on the ground, yeah. >> you have to take extra precautions and make sure you don't leave valuables around, anything like that. >> when we park our car, we're very cautious about it. >> reporter: this weekend, police did make three arrests after an attempted jewelry store robbery and a high-speed chase, and tonight they're trying to see if there's any francisco backing the organization that has leaked confidential military documents on its web site. meanwhile, senator dianne feinstein is calling for prosecution for espionage. today's activists carried signs across the bridge and rallied in support of wikileaks' founder julian assange. >> we need to hear from them, because we're not hearing the truth from our own administration. if you want to imprison somebody, imprison the war criminals. >> if the truth would have been told, this never would have happened. >> many of today's activists are members of code pink, a social peace and justice movement. when asked about the sexual assault charges against assange, reports would only say they back the founder's rule in wiki leaks. the deadline for applications is 10 days away, but the this i take a look at this. a car wedged between two houses several feet off the ground. this is at san pedro in los angeles county. police say the driver of the ford fusion ran a stop sign, hit a curb, flew through the air, busted through a fence, and became wedged in that small space. one woman's husband thought they just felt an earthquake. >> oh, no there wasn't. so i came downstairs, and i blanketed the upper midwest. >> you can see all the snow swirling around here. >> reporter: firefighters rushing to put out this fire in minneapolis got stuck in snow near the home. they arrived in time to rescue six people, but two others did not survive. officials in parts of wisconsin urged drivers to stay home, since even snow showers couldn't keep the roads clear. >> you start over, and it's like, "oh, i just did this last time." >> the storm was headed east, but much of the snow was expected to turn into rain as it moves across the country. inez ferre, cbs news. san francisco's civic center plaza looked like a winter resort today as snow run and play area were part of city hall's holiday celebration. the snow run was for kids, and the snow area for babies. inez and his family joined the gathering for the winter wonderland. which probably won't stick around for very long. got warm weather and rain. >> got some rain brewing. they're going to see lots of snow in the mountains. how about the fog today? started breaking up into the afternoon. off to the coastline, pretty nice. the fog in the bay and the valleys and the coast looking good. some patchy fog developing out there right now. going to start out dense in the interior valleys. not as bad as last night. the fog is going to lift already. early clouds in the bay area. some of it working its way right into the delta and the bay, up to the coastline, trying to get there, but not much in that direction. seeing a fairly cold night again. it's pretty good conditions for the fog to form. the ridge right down there at the surface in most spots. high country, want to do skiing? temperatures in the 50s, and you'll see plenty of sunshine. but get ready folks. we have this system bearing down on the bay area. it will start to drag in. and this one not a very strong storm system, but will help to move the ridge eastward. overnight tonight, fog will be the story. fog later in the day tomorrow night. a few showers beginning to pop up outside. tomorrow, start you out, 7 a.m. the commute, be careful early on, especially inland. i think as we head through the day, the skies will part a little bit. temperatures not going to be all that bad. let's plan on 50s and 60s around the bay area. going to keep you in the 50s out toward the coastline. 53 with partly cloudy skies toward san jose, 51 in union city. east bay temperatures running up into the 50s and 60s by tomorrow afternoon. a little bit warmer with less warm and fog cover there. the will start to gather again, but this time, the clouds will gather some raindrops. that will play itself out for the better part of the week. a chance for showers, not a big deal on tuesday. a chance for more showers on wednesday morning, and then some partial clearing. i think, by thursday afternoon, we get a little more serious, as the storm system works its way in our direction. that one could open the door for some heavy rain as we head toward friday and the weekend. a series of storms going to roll into the bay area. going to make things very, very wet for the week ahead. >> look at that. >> yeah. >> thank you, lawrence. another seagull with a beer can caller rescued in san francisco. the group wild rescue says it a concerned citizen spotted the gull near san francisco state university. the person kept watch over the gull and fed it and contacted the rescue organization. the juvenile bird was inspected, released after it was found in good health. the reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever was responsible for harming the bird stands at 6,000 dollars. operators say the city is adding insult to injury, acting like a grinch and stealing christmas from their families. >> we want our money. >> reporter: but unless something changes, muni drivers are not going to get the thousands of dollars they normally do this time of year. >> my kids are sad right now. you know, everybody is sad. >> reporter: muni has a special fund set up for the city transit operators. at the end of the year, each worker normally gets around 3,000 bucks on top of their normal pay. but with the transportation authority budget meltdown, management says they can't dole it out this year. >> i wish they would have told us three, four months ago, but they just did it right there. just like the grinch that stole christmas, straight up. >> reporter: this latest flow is on top of a move by voters in november that changed the city's charter to take out the part that made sure muni drivers were the second highest paid in the nation. the dole-outs late in the year ensured that, and the charter change isn't in effect until next year. that's why the driver's union is planning to fight, saying it's part of their compensation package. >> this money belongs to us. >> it's a two-way street. they've been generous in terms of their compensation. but there's a certain point where enough is enough. >> muni management didn't comment on camera, sent a letter to the union saying they're open to negotiation, but say service cuts remain in effect, and the agency facing another deficit for the upcoming fiscal
