Woman that changed my life. Man at that moment, it hit me this is why i joined the guard. Were soldiers, always ready to protect our country, but weve also got communities family, friends, neighbors who count on us. I couldnt believe it. I just saved a life. Somebody from my hometown. Announcer see what it means to be a citizensoldier, at nationalguard. Com. Welcome to bay area. Reportedly almost and and society have dropped the ball on human. And diversity welcome good to have you here and i couldnt agree with that quote more. And i think for during and kindness is a and child is devoting out there the parents need to understand to drop that stigma, talk to your child, we dont demand that it stops or punish only like i was i would think its hard for parents or teachers to intervene because i would almost think a kid being bullied mom dont because well make it worse before you find out. One thing i always say the bully and victim are mirror images of each other. Theyre both in hell f self statement. Its these other issues believe it or not. It could have been i could have become the bully. I want people to understand that are listening to become the bully, to preemptively say im not going to be heard any more. I think thats really important to understand. Talk just talk to your child. And the example needs to be. You talk to kids. Whats happening right now. I think bullying has always been there. When we have to interact with people even when we interact with our parents the only difference i believe is that when we interact with the parents were in a different role space. If you dont wear hip clothes if your haircut is strange or in my case if you look different in this world you think weve melted all together and we havent. Were still willing to put children that are japanese parents and an american mother, with ear still trying to put them on the fight and that creates all of this bullying problem. When somebody is different you say you were born muslim, you were raised catholic. Its a very interesting story and so because you were different, you were adopted. You were raised, i believe in europe. You were born, raised in europe, you were in canada at one point. I mean,. We need to accept each other, you cant be scared of me from a different ethnicity and vice versa. That already all of that far creates bullying. If we are happy with if you have a good are you ever going to be mad at the producer of this show, never. Youre having a really good day. When you have a bad day its so much easier to lash out. What parents should look for, lashing out. Think in other words the child is lashing out. The child lashes out at the parent for no reason or isolated slates itself. There are just some parties, you know some of them going on and talking is not enough. We need to think of Technology Cyber bullying because thats made its worse hasnt it. Its also you see i was having lunch here in San Francisco yesterday and everyone in the restaurant was texting, nobody was talking to each other. So if we do this as adults, come on, what are we teaching them. What are the signs that your child is a bully. The first thing is lashing out. Lash out and hope the same as the person who was being bullied. The person who is bullying is doing some of that same behavior at home. A bully i do not believe that bully is truly a popular child in school. It is only popular at the moment that it has the momentum, you know, with those little balls. Oh, yes. Think of newtons cradle, you hit the first prealternative strike, right, the whole group reacts since school and thats whats funny, you continue because theres momentum. Nobody wants to stand out and be part and say, you know, youre wrong theyre afraid theyre going to get bullied themselves. My advice to everyone is listening to walk away. We dont walk away enough. Before we leave, theyre giving me the end here, but the question is what do parents do or teachers do if they see this happening, how do they stop it. Stop the bullying is first of all youve dot to get the bully and the victim to talk to each other. You cannot punish only one time. Its something that has to be done together and you have to make the effort both the parents and the educators to get both the parents, both the victims and the billionly together that. s step no. 1. Step no. 2 is to recognize signs that we were talking about dont ignore and dont feel that your child is a bad person because its a bully. You can certainly get in touch with gabriel lathrough her web site. Her book is called with all my might talks about her journey of growing up, being different, con fronting bullying and also thats rij. Its re. In 2007 veteran animal advocate rescue worker and dog lover Sherry Franklin started a Nonprofit Group who cared for and find homes for older bay area dogs. Spreads the joy of adopting pooches whose puppy days are past and who otherwise passed over as shelters were little puppies. Sherry franklin welcome back and you brought with you. Little dean martin. Dean martin. Dean is how old. Hes a tenyearold toy poodle. He Perfect Match for senior adopters. I notice dean has got a little problem. To take care of all the. So somebody wants to adopt an older dog and says, okay, youre taking care of the vet bills to this point this dog has Health Issues and i would like to help but i dont know if i can afford the health care is there any support to that at all. We offer as less support as we can. I think the main thing is that we uncover any Health Issues prior to the adoption so whoever adopts goes in with our eyes open so if the guy doesnt need to have some special care or if its not. Dean needs a home by the way, did we say that. Dean is available right now and theres a lot of other dogs that certainly need, his owner passed away. We have about 70 dogs available at any giver time. Mostly animal shelters that might euthanize them. The dogs that are in danger we take in. Now, i thought that the most of the shelters in the bay area were no kill shelters is that not true. What they consider no kill shelters are dogs that are adoptable and a lot of times the older dogs are not considered adoptable. They do get euthanized. When you say older dogs what age are we talking about. We take dogs that are 7 and older all of them are people friendly and dog friendly. We get about 500 requests a week. So whats your best in. I should get an older dog because. Do you like your shoes. Okay. They wont hurt your shoes. They dont need a lot of exercise. Theyre very calm. Theyre cuddlers, theyll give you lots of unconditional love. And a lot of them have training, you dont have to worry about them. How many dogs have you saved since you started this. Were going to hit 2,000 dogs in the next month or so. Wow thats amazing. 2,000 dogs. When you match these dogs up in general does it work out. What do people tell you after they adopt an older dog. We get letters and cards daily from doctors of the joy that their job is giving them. We also have so many returns of adopters, so i think were striking a cord with a lot of the public and people really want to help. Speaking of return if somebody comes in and adopt a dog but for some reason it doesnt work out maybe they cant do the daily walks for some reason you cant do it. Can you take the dog back. Absolutely. We dont want any of our dogs to go back to shelter environment. You are where. We have adopt a senior saturdays at our new location, which is adjacent to the spca and we think them for giving us 3,000 square feet of shelter face space. In San Francisco. 255 alabama and all of that information is online at our web site and okay. So youve got the space but sometimes they have the medical issues and probably i would think its not you see a little puppies and come in and i want you, baseball for the kitten is okay this might take a little longer you need some fund.
