In else on Thursday that he would indeed be bringing down these charges Netanyahu of course has denied wrongdoing he says that by President Trump he is a victim of a politically orchestrated which once he says that basically all the media in Israel are against him which happens to be true he also says that there is no check and balance on the prosecutor's office in Israel in the United States obviously the president is immune from any sort of criminal prosecution Well he's president of the United States there is an impeachment process in Israel that is not the process and I'll get to that in just one second what exactly is the process where does Israel go from here because Israel for folks have not been watching is a mess over there earlier this year they held an election the election ended with a right wing bloc a left wing bloc the Arab bloc and a sort of swing vote Ok and nobody could form a government because in Israel you require more than half of the 120 members of Knesset to support a particular administration in order for the administration to stand well Likud didn't have more than 60 the so-called blue and white which was the center left party didn't have more than 60 there was a party in the middle that refused to either side with Likud which would for more than 60 or 2 side with a couple of on the center left party the blue white party they said they would side with them but they did not have enough votes to actually form over 16 then you have the Arab bloc which won't side with anybody they refuse to sit in a government with anybody because the Arab bloc actually does not support the existence of the state of Israel so that was a question number one. A new election was called because nobody could form a coalition government new election happens same results nobody is able to form a government and 1st was given a chance to form a government that failed then Bennie guns who's the head of the couple of on the blue and white party was given a chance to form a government and that failed and then there's a 21 day period this is where Israel currently is politically there's a 21 day period in which anybody has the opportunity to come forward and say I have 61 signatures on this piece of paper and I will have a new government anyone can do it and well everybody sort of expected that that was going to be an impossibility since the leaders of the 2 biggest blocs couldn't do it so why would some random be able to do it they will now things have broken wide open and there are a bunch of possibilities on the table because it is pretty clear that Benjamin Netanyahu days as prime minister are numbered in Israel so what exactly are the cases that he's being indicted over so there are some 3 cases one is called Case 1000 case 200-4000 right those are what they are called 100-200-4000 case 1000 was an investigation surrounding supposedly illegal gifts received by the Netanyahu family taken some Mariah Carey concert or a Cuban cigars supposedly in exchange for political favors to billionaires supposedly Netanyahu and his wife and son are accused of receiving gifts worth more than 280 grand in return for promoting policies that benefited powerful allies like Hollywood producer on milk. There is a transcript of a conversation between us and Yahoo and Moses who is the again the editor of you know the Hot or Not in which the prime minister said Every day I'm somebody who's killing me to lower the law and he asked Moses to lower the level of hostility from $9.00 to $7.00 Adelson said he wasn't aware of any deal between it and Yahoo and Moses and was angry at the idea and then Yahoo said that the offer was not serious and then there's case 400-4000 is a case in which Netanyahu was accused of offering regulatory favors to an Israeli telecommunications company in return for positive coverage of Netanyahu and his wife on a website called while the news right so those are all of the allegations Netanyahu denies the allegations of course and Mendeleev who is the prosecutor has been working for months on the question of whether he would come forward with actual cases against Ms now so now he's coming forth with cases on all 3 of these charges of bribery fraud and breach of trust basically the harshest version of what was going to happen here Netanyahu really was not expecting this he was expecting that the cases would probably be dismissed Now this puts Netanyahu in a bind because basically there are 2 major cities in Israel 2 big cities one is Tel Aviv is a left wing city Ok because it's a left wing city the feeling is that if Netanyahu is charged with these things in Tel Aviv you'll go to jail and then there's Jerusalem which is a mostly right wing city and the feeling is that if if Netanyahu is charged in Jerusalem he probably gets a slap on the wrist has to pay a little bit behind and then resign from the prime ministership so right now Netanyahu is basically making the case right now and it's in Yahoo is making the case to the Israeli Supreme Court that as sitting prime minister he cannot be indicted until he is no longer sitting prime minister that if he is that if he is tried he has to be tried in Jerusalem as prime minister because the Prime Minister can't be tried in Tel Aviv So basically he's saying to the Supreme Court listen there is no sitting prime minister right if I go there is no one. Right he is the person in charge of the government and there is no substitute right if you leave there's literally no prime minister there's no heir apparent there's no coalition there's nothing because remember there is no coalition government in place he's just a placeholder for the next election cycle and this has been true for a year there's been through for nearly a year so he's saying to the Israeli Supreme Court look under the law you cannot impose me just to indict me now these ribs from court leans left but it's now is legal case there is fairly strong and he's going to fight that all the way to the end because obviously if you were to step down without any sort of the old man the prosecutor then he would be tried in Tel Aviv and he might end up in jail for $5.00 to $7.00 so that is a real disaster for Netanyahu So the question becomes does Likud his own party stand behind him now Benny Gantz and your lead Peter the heads of the couple of on Blue and White party they have said in the past that they are happy to sit with members of Likud but they will not sit with Netanyahu I don't care a campaign was an anti Netanyahu campaign saying that he had grown fat and happy and corrupt and that is why they would not sit with him so when you were to go there would be unity government in all likelihood but inside of Likud Netanyahu is the head of the party Ok so now come in a couple of other characters who don't star is a is a leader in Likud who tried to primary challenge Netanyahu this year and it's now cancelled the primary and basically exiled Saar So now sour is coming back in and saying Well guys it's time for a primary let's do this thing right it is time for a primary right now and if you win the primary the Netanyahu is out on his ear Sar forms a coalition government with blue and white and the religious parties and get this broad coalition government if he wins the primary but are the members of Likud willing to oust Netanyahu as head of Likud and therefore his prime minister leaving him vulnerable to the possibility of being charged in Tel Aviv and going to jail. So it's a complete mess it's a complete about now Star has another option right sorry could literally take a bunch of the Likud base that don't support and Yahoo and walk across the street to blue and white and say Ok Well we're not part of Likud anymore but we are members of Knesset and so we are now going to sit with you. And we are going to form a unity government the absence of Likud just break the party this is happened before Ariel Sharon actually left the Likud Party whenever he was in danger of losing power and form his own party called Kima So this thing has happened before. So it's a complete mess the one thing that is fairly certain is that barring some sort of cataclysmic event Netanyahu is not going to be prime minister for very long in Israel and then the question is are there new elections is a coalition formed how is he ousted How fast is yes to because remember if we have the end of 20 what is going to have to happen fast because if we hit the end of this $21.00 day period new elections by law are declared So Netanyahu has an interest in this thing dragging El Paso $21.00 days now to get to a new election specifically because it'll take several months to put together an election and in that time he has to sit as prime minister because there is no actual alternative to nights and Yahoo sitting as prime minister so blue and white wants him out obviously the opposition they want him out and they're smart would be to say to get on or to one of the other members of Likud listen you guys need have a primary you have a primary we'll have a unity government you guys go 1st right this is all about and you know who originally that's what we always said we want to unity government you guys been and you can't be in here and then wait for somebody to basically push an intern Yahoo out. Or presumably they can wait this thing out wait for a new election hope that Likud continues to back Netanyahu and then run against Netanyahu Well that's now he's under indictment because that wouldn't be a real problem for the good right would be a serious problem for Likud if they have to run an election with Netanyahu under the possibility of indictment blue and white may come out with come with a clean majority. They might come out with 40 seats plus another plus another 15 or 20 from various left wing parties and they could easily end up with a majority bloc in Yahoo's running as the head of Likud Well he is currently under indictment so horrible news for Netanyahu today horrible news for the Likud Party today. It's pretty pretty astonishing Now what's interesting is sort of the politics here. Right Israel had of the door Lieberman said that he hopes to Lieberman is the is the guy who has been sort of a wild card in all of this he could have formed a coalition with Likud in the right wing bloc he could have formed a coalition with the left wing bloc and forms a minority government where the Arabs don't sit inside the government Lieberman said he hopes that Netanyahu will be acquitted on the corruption defenses he says I wish only good results for Netanyahu because he's our Prime Minister our personal relations in the past now the future not so important 1st date it's important we see this finished. Lieberman said he doesn't believe that's now his political career should be tied to his legal case he says you shouldn't put them together it will finish his career I think it would be prepped for I would prefer it be for political reasons and not other reasons he says the best solution is for a happy ending with Beebe's criminal case. And there's a difficulty for blue and white here which is that if they overplay their hand right if they overplay their hand. As I was laying out last few moments ago there are several options inside Israel for what happens next none of them is likely to end up with Netanyahu as prime minister within 6 months right now the wild card in all of this is you don't sorry he was the Likud leadership candidate who attempted to launch a primary challenge against Netanyahu inside the Likud Party the way it works inside Israel is that the prime minister is not directly elected like that by the population the way that we are in the United States instead you vote for the party and the head of the party becomes the Prime Minister if that party is the largest coalition member in a bloc you have to have more than 60 votes in the $120.00 vote Knesset parliament in order for you to sit as prime minister so you don't have tried to lead an insurrection against Netanyahu inside Likud Party Netanyahu it shut down the primary and then basically expelled. Well just a few hours before the announcement that all of this was going down that it's you know who was going to be indicted just a few moments before so our head put out a head put out a statement suggesting that he could build a coalition he called for setting a timetable for Likud leadership primary saying that this was necessary to set Likud apart from parties that don't have primaries like you which is led by your lobbied. So are said if a new government won't be formed we go to an election it will not be reasonable that the prime minister will be successful in forming a government after the 3rd election so if we're in front of a new election suddenly good leadership primary I think I'll be able to form a government I think will be able to unify the country and the nation. His point is that Netanyahu has basically ousted all political rivals and now and it's you who is unable to form a government specifically because Netanyahu personally is considered toxic by his political opposition whereas if some are leaving Likud then the opposition would be gone now there is still a problem with this which is the get on to has a very very right wing Likud member he's very right wing on security he's very right wing on economics and that means that it's unlikely that you don't start would be able to sit in coalition with members of the couple of on because the blue and white which is the center left in Israel and the center left in Israel a couple of on is actually it itself is a coalition party we cood is a party with a platform hopeful of on is a set of parties that came together under one rubric for purposes of the election. And that means that there's a bunch of blocs inside there and got Bogey I alone who's a security hawk and you've got Benny Gantz who is sort of a mystery man nobody knows where he stands on anything and then you have your levied who is considered a little bit more on the on the peacenik side and also is radically anti-religious at least in terms of his orientation toward the religious parties in Israel and that doesn't mean that he's anti religious people he just believes that the religious parties in Israel have a habit of rent seeking right there looking for checks from the government which is at least in part true so this is all a mess Sorry saying Ok well I'll go for my government now that it's in you I was been invited there's the possibility of the Tsar walks out with half the population of Likud walks over to Gaza and has Ok let's form a coalition now. The problem is that would it bring maybe the religious parties with a maybe if they get paid off then you know what Peter would have to step out so all of this is like do you remember that game that you had when you were a kid where it was sort of a grid and there were these little cars and you had to move the cars in such a way that all of the cars fit on the grid it's like that every time you move one of these puzzle pieces another puzzle piece breaks off that's how the Israeli coalition government system is and so that means that there is no solidity there it also means that Likud might be less likely to push Netanyahu out now than they were even before because if they push out unceremoniously he may end up in jail for $5.00 to $7.00. Ben I'm doing terrific it how are you doing on doing pretty well man the news cycle is hot and heavy these days obviously my mind has been on the chaos that just broke in Israel where the Senate where Prime Minister Netanyahu is about to be indicted is complete mess over there I have a feeling that yeah it literally anything could happen over there well as you're sort of take on that breaking news. Well certainly on unfortunate news and I think Prime Minister Netanyahu has been an extraordinary leader for Israel and an extraordinarily strong friend of America and I think in particular the role that Netanyahu played one when Obama was president of speaking out with with a clarion shrinks against the disaster that was the Obama Iran nuclear deal I referred multiple times to to to the forcefulness of Netanyahu is message to the world as really being church Shelly on with that force and grab a toss and so it is obviously dismaying to see the legal challenges there and obviously the difficulty of forming a government they've now had 2 elections and not been able to form a government at its ultimate lead up to the people of Israel to decide who their head of state should be but but I certainly hope this gets resolved and and and we go forward because Israel is to port an important ally for them not to have a strong and effective prime minister to lead Israel and stand along with America what an absolute mess Well speaking of absolute messes I don't know dinner because if you had the opportunity to watch the Democratic debate last night but that was a that was a clown car I mean it was it was pretty wild too to watch as a bunch of candidates who theoretically should be you know going after each other in in search of the. Nation decided instead they were going to just group hug this whole thing out while proposing some the most radical proposals imaginable What was your take on the outcome of last night's debate. So I confess I didn't watch last night I watched the 1st few and they're sort of a limit to my masochism I. At this point it is evident where the Democratic field is going which it which is that they are galloping to the left there's no spot too far left for them to go and the animating force in the Democratic Party is rage it is rage towards Donald Trump they hate Donald Trump that is what unites them as a party and as a result they're embracing x. Even more and more extreme positions that even just a few years ago were fringe positions on in the Democratic Party you look at the leaders among the Democrats you look at Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders that these are our friends your leftist candidate. You know Bernie is an open and a valid socialist It used to be Democrats pretended they weren't socialists now just about every one of them openly and braces the socialist agenda just about every one of them openly embraces the Green New Deal which would be 90 trillion dollars in new government spending more spending than the federal government is spent in the history of our country just about every one of them embraces open borders just about every one of them embraces unlimited abortion on demand up to the moment of birth and even after birth with taxpayer funding and just about every one of them in embraces full on socialized medicine making it illegal for you or me or any of us to have the health insurance we have right now I mean these are radical extreme positions and yet you say these Democrats lining up and raising their hands like like lemmings wanting all of America to jump off a cliff in center cause I will admit that I found it very amusing to listen to the Democrats last night you missed it but. It was pretty funny to watch them list off their credentials for being president of the United States sudden Joe Biden who actually has served in Congress for years served in the Senate for years as vice presidential aide as his name on some legislation and Bernie Sanders saying that he was worthy of the job because he's been a career useless person you had to judge explain that he's worthy of being president of the United States after winning his biggest election with a grand total of $11000.00 votes in South Bend Indiana because he is least wealthy person on things that literally his pitch is that he is not wealthy therefore he should run the world's largest economy you had you had calmly Harris explain that she is part of the intersectional coalition and these are not folks who have a strong leg to stand on when it comes to a record of achievement it seems to me. I think that is right and they also don't have a vision that makes sense for America look the number one priority from Texans my job is to represent 28000000 Texans that's what I go to the Senate to do each and every day what Texans care about is jobs we want more jobs we want higher wages we want more opportunity what Texans care about is security we want our our home safe we want our borders secure we want the nation kept safe what Texans care about is freedom we want to constitutional rights protected we we want free speech and religious liberty and the 2nd Amendment all the fundamental liberties that we enjoy as Americans protected that is a common sense agenda that has wide bipartisan support among the voters and yet the clown car that is the Democratic 2020 primary field is talking about none of that and in fact opposed to every bit of that you know you've got a Lizabeth Warren proposing not just repealing the tax cuts but imposing massive new tax increases. That would be crippling to the economy and and that. You know I never thought I'd say it but but I look long fully back towards the days. I'm a Bill Clinton where there was some plan something resembling a Democrat who was willing to say gosh jobs are good none of these people believe that the only jobs they want is more government tax collectors to kep down the doors and take your guns that's that's the only jobs they have they're not going to patrol agents they're not going to deport anyone they're going have open borders so apparently the only jobs on earth are i.r.s. Well I'll say what's happening in Hong Kong right now is both deeply dismaying and incredibly inspirational at the same time what is dismaying as we're seeing a brutal crackdown from the Chinese communist government where they're trying to use brute force to suppress freedom and democracy in Hong Kong now what's inspirational as we're seeing millions of men and women in Hong Kong leading protests going to the street I was in Hong Kong just last month I went there I met with. The protest leaders I've met with democracy activists you know many of them are young people are students are you are young men and young women who are going out and I mean risking their lives we're seeing Chinese communist police officers. Violently assaulting the protestors violently engaging shooting one in the stomach unarmed protesters shooting and shooting with a firearm in the stomach firing rubber bullets at other protest. Well I think that's right I think what's what's happening in the us has become an absolute circus and don'ts Democrats have given up on any pretense of fairness or objectivity you know if you look at previous impeachment proceedings in the House of Representatives if you look at the proceedings with Richard Nixon if you look at the proceedings with Bill Clinton in both instances the House made a real effort to be fair to be objective to allow both sides to present their case they allowed the minority to subpoena witnesses so that you had a full and complete record in this instance House Democrats departed from past practice and they said the minority can call witnesses we're not going to allow the minority to have subpoena power and instead what they're engaged in that. As a show trial lady it is a a propaganda trial where the House Democrats will only listen to testimony they believe supports their narrative and they don't allow the defense to present any facts on the other side and I think the American people see this this is not a fair and objective process designed by the house to find out facts to find out evidence if it has a preordained conclusion which is House Democrats decided in November of 2016 they want to do it Peach Donald Trump because they're mad at the American people for electing him and all of this is a show trial towards a preordained conclusion now the good news is. When the House votes to impeach and I believe House Democrats will largely on party line vote when it comes to the Senate I hope and believe the Senate will do much better that we will have a fair proceeding we will have a proceeding that respects due process that allows both sides to present their case that allows both sides to be able to call witnesses and address evidence and I think the show trial as Democrats are doing are only undermining their case because it makes it very clear it is a partisan proceeding rather than a proceeding governed by rule of law that's And one final question for you on this if it reaches the Senate which it likely will I can't imagine a situation which has Democrats don't vote for impeachment and it reaches Senate trial should the Senate call some of the witnesses that the Democrats will not call including folks like Hunter Biden including perhaps people who will talk openly about the identity of the whistleblower who got this whole case started in the 1st place how broad should the impeachment inquiry be once and the trial once he gets to the Senate. I think that's very likely I think that any proceeding in the Senate should be fair it should be open and it should respect due process what does that mean that means allowing both sides to present their case and if the White House chooses to call as a witness 100 Biden if the White House chooses to call as a witness the whistleblower I think they should be allowed to call them that I think the most of those witnesses in particular may well be integral to the White House's defense and the position of the House of Representatives is there an ostrich sticking their head in the sand they're like No no no we won't hear any arguments for the defense you know it's a little bit like Alice in Wonderland. 6 1st trial later that's where the House of Representatives is their verdict is impeachment and they don't want to have a trial and so yes if the president defense team wants to call 100 Biden or wants to call the whistleblower or any other fact witnesses that are. So their defense of course they should be allowed to call them because that's what due process mandated that is that you be able that both sides be able to present their case and it be decided on actual facts and not just a political hit job well Senator Cruz really appreciate your time thank so much for your work out there and keep keep your head down and I know those I would want to see anybody have to catch that life insurance policy. Impeachment hearings are apparently being watched or followed by 69 percent of voters a plurality are getting their information from Fox News 24 percent are getting their information from a.b.c.
