The prevailing air assault was initially thought to be a 1000 years old but experts now believe it dates back to the 6th century the discovery was made possible thanks to the summer's warm weather and the drought which caused the legs water to fall to extremely low levels $800.00 saga who found the weapon passed it to her father who initially thought the rusted metal was in fact an unusual stake or branch but experts at a museum in the south of Sweden say the sword is in fact incredibly well preserved . Thank you very much indeed for that Hello everybody welcome to News Day when Eric and me James come to a very good morning to the next half hour we'll go to Russia and Indonesia and we have an extraordinary report about why so many disabled Americans are victims of police violence yet he got a view on our day anything else you hear on the program to send us a text number is just 447-786-2050 extension 85. We stuck to the you as well the political row over prison Trump Supreme Court nominee Brad cover is coming to a head of vote on is the relation is imminent or not Democratic senators say an f.b.i. Report into allegations of sexual misconduct against him is incomplete was to cover a definitive suffered an article in an American newspaper about that hasn't come things down in the last few hours hundreds of people being arrested as they protested against Mr Corona at the Supreme Court and those against the nominee and his record have been making their feelings known in other ways too we can talk to some of the Buckingham She's a clinical professor of law and director of the Juvenile Justice Clinic at the Iowa Law School in Los Angeles she's also one of the signatories a letter in The New York Times for more than 2000 law professors objecting to Brett Kavanaugh being confirmed to the Supreme Court was your motivation in signing this letter thank you so much for asking. I was driven to find a letter because the Ewing the profession of law and the legitimacy of the Supreme Court. I was deeply disturbed by Mr Cavanagh's behavior. During the confirmation hearings and what led me to the right. He behaved in such a way that was really unprofessional and let me be very specific he interrupted several of the senators who were asking him questions he didn't answer questions directly and he at one point even attacked a senator who had asked him a question. Senator close which are asking a question about his drinking and he wound up turning that question back around on her without answering it and that was just something that was really on. And it wasn't a straight forward response at the very least he was uncooperative and unprofessional during his questioning and if I were to behave that way in court I have every expectation that I would be sanctioned He has written an article in which he has acknowledged some of those points he's saying essentially he was a little too emotional his tone might have been to show up there are things he shouldn't have said is that's enough to change your mind. It's not obviously it was a very stressful time for him whether you believe that he assaulted Dr Ford or you believe that he did not assault Dr Ford or doesn't remember assaulting Dr Ford obviously it was a very stressful time but we need someone who is going to fit on the Supreme Court who is not just fair and impartial when he's at his best we need someone who is able to be dignified fair and impartial even when the going gets rough We need someone who's going to have the respect of the American people so that he can decide or she can decide on matters of controversy and be the ultimate arbiter on what the Constitution says about the law in the United States in America this idea of in Patiala as he is clearly an idealist clearly very important but at the same time it's also very clear that judges already almost Supreme Court has strong views Democrat Republican because that's why those parties fought so hard to get their nominee on the Supreme Court. You're absolutely correct the Supreme Court nominees are nominated by President the President is a politician and the president belongs to a political party. Cover to represent accurately his world view and one that he feels should be on the Supreme Court what's the problem with that. The problem with that is that he has demonstrated clearly that he cannot be impartial his we care about in judicial ethics whether or not a judge is impartial and we expect of judges that they present an appearance of impartiality as well and Brett Kavanaugh is the 1st person to have gone before the Supreme Court and to have done a story that this was a left wing political conspiracy now he's perfectly entitled to that opinion that may be his truth and he can speak his truth but he can't sit on the Supreme Court with that opinion he clearly expressed that opinion and that's not an appropriate opinion for someone who's going to sit on the Supreme Court All right Samantha Buck in from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles thank you very much indeed for talking to news day. 11 minutes to 6 o'clock here in the u.k. Now police in America are often the spotlight accused of abusing their power but there is a disturbing trend the drill it gets talked about a huge number of people injured and killed by the police in the u.s. Each year have a disability and with America correspondent Kelly McDonnell has been investigating why there are so many people with a serious mental illness learning difficulties or physical impairment dying at the hands of the police and I want to hear this content may be disturbing to some. You know have an outrageous want to make sure you. Didn't. Police break into the apartment of Adam trauma. Well a schizophrenia after a neighbor in Milwaukee reported he'd been having a breakdown and had been wandering outside his front door naked and then we just want to make sure you know. When they find him Adams taking a shower what happens next is court on one of the police body cameras and is extremely distressing made small again and when Adam doesn't respond to the commands shouted at him and splashing water at the police he's given in their electric shock. My. Over the next 10 minutes Adam Brandon as they were sheltering gets more distressed screams all the more desperately but gets teased many many more times he's dragged out of his apartment and injected with a sedative but moments later 22 year old Adam stops breathing and dies you read my mind is not. His parents Kathleen and Larry have been left devastated. Where is the imminent danger there was. No way he suffered like that. There's no reason at all. He didn't deserve it at all he's in a Bafta. He's already handcuffed you don't tase him 15 times he's laying in a dying Adam became part of a disturbing trend that rarely gets talked about that a staggering proportion at least 25 percent of the hundreds of people killed by police in the us every year have a mental physical or intellectual disability of course all police. Often face criminals who are but for many reasons so many disabled people are killed it's because officers often employ command and control method of policing really didn't want to hear shouting commands and crazy to taking control particularly when someone doesn't reply except there are often reasons people can't comply come out again and. Again there's times when you know you couldn't touch Adam he got really strong or he get out of sight you know and I mean so always knew when I am his to stay back from him and let him talk he had to understand it is just if I went in there and just used my authority as a father your father does this it just didn't work I had to have time with him Laurie feels the police could not have done her standing there in any jersey and. In spite of seeing all the body camera footage from the police the district attorney and others case ruled his death could not be conclusively linked to the actions of the officers involved he said they had acted in good faith and had him fight been trying to help him by getting him medical attention I need to make sure you're Ok in very few cases where people with disabilities are killed orifices ever prosecuted so what of the police who have to. In the life of someone with a disability in Oklahoma City we rode on patrol with Sergeant who are new no. or he has to be my safety. Right. Although it's hit or miss around the country in some police forces there has been a drive to offer more training on how better to understand disability campaigners fear that unless there's a fundamental change in the way police operate in the us we're deescalating interactions is truly the focus and those who are disabled will keep on dying this way shocking stuff I'm sure you can agree just possibly investigation a.b.c. North America correspondent and you can download and listen to the full radio documentary Don't Shoot I'm disabled on b.b.c. World Service assignment on our website that's b.b.c. World Service dot com forward slash assignment this is news to many Rizal and to suggest we Jim called know in a few minutes we'll go into business news to the us for that Meantime quick reminder top story the saw one week after the earthquake and tsunami on the Indonesian island also the e.c. Power and water as well as mobile phone coverage are returning to some of the wost future is. And President Trump Supreme Court nominee Brit Covena has admitted that some of his testimony to senators last week was to shop and emotional this is a sports now and Arsenal boss you know Emery is feeling pretty chipper after his side's 8th victory in a row last night's 3 no win over kind of bag in Azerbaijan his side are showing confidence and taking responsibility according to the coach that was in the Europa League are the highlights from yesterday's action include a 3 year old brawl between sponsored Moscow and Villareal in Russia and the shock defeat for severe who've won the trophy a record 5 times they were beaten $21.00 by Crescent are also in Russia all the details of all the games on the b.b.c. Sport website elsewhere the Confederation of African football says it will use v a r video assistant referees for the finals of both the continent's top club competitions this year that is the Confederation Cup and the flagship Champions League and the multiple World Heavyweight Champion Anthony Joshua has made a much improved offer we're told to Dion Terry wilder the holder of the only crowned Joshua doesn't own in his division to try and get a unification back in place but so far the offer has been rebuffed according to Joshua's promoters Matthew thank you more from him in about 25 minutes time. And we can get some business news to me of course of Philip is here and also you know Musk the man that just can't stay away from the headlines not least out here he's not here I'd like to point out our very quickly. I want to also coming our way know what you know now Oh Lord yes Elon Musk back in the headlines again just days after being forced to step down as chairman of Tesla for the next 3 years agreeing to have adult oversight of his tweeting for activities and also paying a $20000000.00 fine to the Securities and Exchange Commission or the f.c.c. Now trust me that acronym actually becomes important in a few seconds time Eli Musk is going out and he's done a tweet and it was a sarcastic tweet and it was about the s c c I quote The tweet here we go the short seller enrichment commission see what he did there short seller Richmond commission c c is doing incredible work and the name change is so one point those are his words now it's perhaps not entirely wise to tweak the nose of the regulator just days after they've made you $20000000.00 lighter through the exact mechanism that got you into trouble in the 1st place but there you go to give you an indication of how the market took it shows down 3 percent. Meanwhile we also have inflation numbers out of the Philippines yes we have rather curious on this more interest rate rises likely to be on the way for the Philippines is not good figures inflation is now with a 9 year high their food prices the principal problem food prices are currently climbing at double digits inside the Philippines tobacco and alcohol leading the way they're up by some 21.8 percent all of this means that those gains that are coming through a crowding out a relatively modest or even slight declines in other areas such as energy and housing costs but it's got people extremely worried because food is a key keep. Of the spending of households especially the lower their incomes are and in the Philippines there are a large number of medium and lower income households and that therefore causes problems also causes problems for everyone else because the central bank of the Philippines is likely to remain vigilant we get higher interest rate rises that's going to hurt people as well and it Philip thank you very much indeed for that now Russia has wasted no time in dismissing allegations from Britain the Netherlands of the United States that it was involved in orchestrates a number of cyber attacks around the world the u.s. Justice Department is charged 7 Russian agents with plotting to hack targets including Pfieffer and the World Anti Doping Agency Let's get some reaction from Russia and speak to our Moscow correspondent Sara Rainsford at South 1st speaking to us just remind us if you would of some of the allegations. Well the allegations are coming from 3 sides against Russia as they are from the Netherlands for the u.k. And for the us and what they amount to is a huge case against Russia that has been involved in cyber attacks on many fronts in particular in The Hague there was a huge wealth of evidence presented all of that an attempt to attack the to hack the wife I system of the organization for the Prevention of chemical weapons and that was this attack for which 4 Russian agents that I did agents of military intelligence were expelled from the country because they were traveling on diplomatic passports now as you said Russia's response has been to dismiss all the claims and that's been a pretty round dismissal on all sides of the foreign minister here for example is accusing the west of a stage managed propaganda campaign against Moscow and it's saying that the West is paranoid its who queues in Russia in the west of spying mania and saying that anyone with a mobile phone is now being accused of being a spy is there really playing down the case against Russia and playing down particularly the evidence although we know for a fact that some of the ever evidence for example presented in The Hague about these Russian men accused of this attempted hack we know that 2 of the men we've checked out their identity as 2 of the men all certainly links to military sites here in Moscow and also the taxi receipt that was presented as evidence one of the men took a taxi from a military facility to the airport a couple of days ahead of the attack I've called the taxi company they've told me that is a genuine receipt it was one of the drivers who made that trip and there is no no reason to doubt the authenticity of that we see so it suggests a quite a quite extraordinary sloppy level of work by these Russian alleged spies and that idea of the sloppy sloppy work from the spies are I mean we're led to believe that Russians are generally fairly proud of their intelligence services are they getting a sense is there a feeling that maybe their guys haven't been up to their usual standards. Well not if you want to take media not if you were if you read the program and press they were really playing down the evidence very very heavily into saying you know all of this is built on a few photos and it's actually receipts and sort of there's a lot of bluster in the state media and talking about as they say paranoia and anti Russian campaigns and all the like but if you read social media yes there's been a lot of mockery all of the intelligence agencies here particularly this one agency agency military intelligence g.r.u. a Lot of joking and and so the scorn really for their work so it is having an impact but politically the question is they go I think a broad I mean for example watching state television yesterday and today President Putin is in India the next couple of days having a state visit that he recently hosted the Chinese president in Russia that the Austrian tanks are there with him just yesterday so talk of Russia has isolated in a part a pariah state I think it doesn't doesn't really feel like that here but I think Russia is worried about what the consequences might be of all these accusations and whether those accusations may transfer translate into further sanctions and further economic harm to Russia I think that is something that Russia is concerned about less about humiliation of being a pariah state but more worried about the practical implications Sarah Rainsford in Moscow thank you very much indeed talking just that about the Russian response to those claims by 3 Western nations Russia was well Chris tracing a number of cyber attacks around the world. But just on now which is closed a number of international going to as issues over the past year usually accusing them of spying the latest group to face such action as the charity auction aid was supposed to love them and agreements rights projects we can all talk to actually as general secretary general cumple Linda good morning to you thank you for joining us what's the reason you were shut down. Good morning thanks for this up. Trinity Unfortunately we don't have not received any reason from the government for a decision 1st to do is just our organization that would have appealed. Was denied earlier this week without Not a single reason but we believe that what's behind it is a war it's coloration of the recent attacks and suicide I think I think when journalists is part of a larger trend of suppressing a space for silicon question What exactly have you been doing in Pakistan that is causing the discomfort. What we're doing is to fight poverty and to really support millions of families in Pakistan on education on women's rights to land on on fighting hunger very tight and ate in many cities the spectacle of quite quick in 2012 have reached out to more than 1400000 people just can't even read their use of a strategic ally to the government there's no reason based on the things you're talking about why any government would want to shut you down I believe it has to do with brooch that many of us have have have adopted of actually not only delivering services to people but actually organized people so that they can be aware of the rights they can hold the Government to account to 8 weeks on responsibilities on fighting poverty I don't see how they're very governance uncomfortable you know in Uganda for example there were problems there with Action Aid when you were shut down and you're a counselor inaccessible for extended periods of time for the same reasons because the government was uncomfortable because if you work out what is it would actually aid of its work that is causing discomfort amongst governments. I think it's more what is it with governments that field scoffed at both when civil society come together to claim rights is a fundamental part of the mark received a fundamental part of the ability of society structure if together this will stand with development of course that you have active independent suicides so the suppression on the human right to organize to have a field where 3 experts 3 in full expression of opinion is the fundamental problem that we have to live under it is up what you declared to this government when you go to the do you tell them that you're coming to teach your people about their rights. We don't tell people very clearly what our approach is before we get into any country which is to fight poverty and fight poverty in a way that's sustainable because we do that to get that with the communities Ok what do you want to see done in order to help ease your work of the moment. Yeah we will we will be taking legal advice but we also appealed to the new prime minister to reverse that decision we believe that said the solution that's undemocratic that's a decision that really gets on the way of its own promise of fighting poverty in achieved s.t.g. So where we are hopeful that we can reverse it over time really to talk to some Thank you for your time this morning again a complete Who is the general secretary of Action Aid My name is Alan Cujo with James Copnall very good morning to you really listen to us it's good to have you with us remember b.b. She was obvious dot com for Slash mused a young. Lots of good things up to haunt her. Distribution of the b.b.c. World Service in the u.s. Dot com. Well we're driving down the road with. The question about where. The most works and it really the only reason that you really need to know how many words there are in any given language is only good reason is that they aliens said that they were going to disintegrate the earth if you didn't tell them to join us this week on a way with words Friday morning at one central. Good morning to the polls an unusually charged elections correspondent will take us through an unheralded friendship between Russia and India because of the problem is one of the. To get less. The week after a hugely destructive quake and tsunami hits the Indonesian island. Power has been restored and some shops. And in the. Survivors of beginning to receive basic supplies such as drinking water one big mobile phone net back up but some areas still impossible to reach 11400 people. President trumps nominee for the u.s. Supreme Court Brett Kavanaugh has expressed regret for some of his testimony to senators last week in an article in The Wall Street Journal the judge admits there were things he should not have said but he said his words before the Senate Judiciary Committee reflected his overwhelming frustration with wrongful and vicious allegations of sexual misconduct prosecutors in South Korea are demanding a 20 year prison sentence for the country's former president Lee Myung bak his trial on charges of bribery and abuse of power is due to end shortly he's pleaded not guilty or for former South Korean president so still a life have been convicted of or charged with criminal offenses China has rebuffed claims by the u.s. Vice president Mike Pence that it's meddling in American politics to stop Donald Trump from being reelected the Chinese foreign ministry called the accusation slanderous the head of Scouts Australia has apologized to victims of sexual abuse among its ranks admitting the organization didn't listen when some came forward his head Phil Harris and made a video statement after an official inquiry heard that the scouts had a long history of allegations against it u.s. Researchers have found that Winsted Bines may contribute to higher temperatures scientists at Harvard University say if wind power provided all the country's energy needs the changing of wind patterns around turbines could contribute to a nationwide warming 0.24 degree Celsius. I think you for the news a welcome this is news day. And a few minutes we'll hear why unemployment is such a big political issue in South Africa. We start with a vital election in a divided nation that many believe could make the situation worse I'm not talking about America this is Cameroon nearly 7000000 people are expected to go to the polls on Sunday to elect a new president 85 year old incumbent. 7th term he's been in power since 1982 making him one of the longest serving presidents in Africa this election also comes with a civil conflict in civil war in the country's anger phone regions they've autos in the studio now is a Cameroonian also an international counter-terrorism expert thank you for coming in David thank you is this country ready for this election do you think. That's one of the questions that everyone is asking but again as you rightly say we've seen their registration of about 6500000 to 7000000 voters who have registered one of the problems that Cameron is facing of the moment especially if you look at what is happening in the in the to the phone majority speaking regions those in North ways in the southwest because of the infighting which is going on by a separatist movement a known now as somebody. A lot of people are questioning whether this is the perfect time for elections I mean you can't just say oh we've got a problem a country let's delay the election Camerino authorities will say we have a constitutional need to hold these polls it may be difficult but it's our responsibility to have these elections of course. A very valid point. But the problem that we're facing now is this a lot of this my cv refugees are moving. From the younger phone regions to the front going through Francophone regions which is the French speaking region people asking with these people that have moved from these areas refugees in Nigeria where they would be able to extend lease their civil rights to have elections and that's going to lead potentially to more people feeling marginalized which has already been a problem for many angle phones whether they support the armed struggle not indeed it will but the question again is you know without these crises in the English speaking regions who actually delayed elections. You know if you of course my view is that shouldn't because if you look at the the for the general well being of the country I think the elections you know who but you know the problem East how the government is going to manage to secure the Saldanha northwest regions when the in Brazil unions have said very very clear that they are ready to make sure that the election doesn't take place in these particular regions so the issue of security really comes in you know in ensuring that these people within this region most of whom have really migrated of course as refugees you know one expects President civil rights we're going to talk more about security later in the program I mean should. Be has been around for so long is there any conceivable scenario in which he doesn't win these elections very difficult if you look at the previous elections in 2011 where he won by a landslide majority what he's done. In this particular election is about 10 political parties have given an endorsement to his party and if you look at the all the candidates especially those who have what I refer to as a big dog in the fight you've called a Levy who is a 30 year old you've got Maurice come to see a career Munaf was a career move he's brought up been not moved not was a candidate of the 2011 elections. For the alliance of progress the force so these are the main candidates but the concern here by many communions express why haven't they had the same kind of coalition that the president has extended least so long the opposition is divided essentially they can all together to fight fight pull bare so there is a huge divide between the opposition parties because of personality clash and of course the anger from crazies as well has been one of the key factors which has put them at loggerheads because the for example someone like a Karim when it comes have been saying he's going to resolve the problem immediately becomes president but that is not the view of you know many of the old political parties so I think there is a huge concern by Cameroonians who believe that if anyone has to you know out play all or remove the president from power through the True the ballot then they have to form a coalition but you know the president already has a coalition that I don't see him losing in this election that's that's the politics of it what about the election itself do you believe it will be free and fair of course the election itself is one of the key areas where a lot of people have raised consent come which is supposed to be an independent body and I was setting today yeah of course the input election body for Cameron was set up in 2006 it is supposed to organize money unsupervised election but again the $18.00 members of the election are supposed to be independent moral morally upright and autonomous but what a lot of Cameroonians have complained about in political parties of complain about is the fact that these members have been appointed by the incumbent and they somehow related to the political party which is a Cameroon people's democratic movement so I think there is there's an issue in terms of neutrality an impression. He's required by the members of the electoral vote but another issue which comes into place is that of resources out of the polling stations that have been exploited these about about the us about $25000.00 police stations and there's a lot of concern that the opposition party doesn't have enough resources to actually deploy. Each and every one of these polling station right so there's a vast difference perhaps in the mains that different sides have very day thank you very much indeed and also more from him throughout the program as we build up to those big elections in Cameroon this Sunday. The Russian president Vladimir Putin holds talks with the Indian prime minister Narendra Modi in Delhi today he is expected to sign a deal to sell more than $5000000000.00 worth of m to aircraft missiles now the United States is want India the deal would attract u.s. Sanctions but. Reports now from ties between India and Russia of deep roots from the Cold War era and in more recent times the 2 countries remain close allies. At the gates to leave the campus of the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay it's India's answer to mit India's brightest minds graduate from here but a little known fact about the institute is that it received substantial assistance in the form of equipment and expert services. Union. The year was $158.00 and India had only gained independence from Britain a few years ago India's 1st prime message of narrow dreamt of building a prosperous and technologically superior India whose political system would be a cross between a British style democracy and a soffit style socialist state. And. It's something that you can see. These really would be a part of that that some of the from get to the house I think tank in Mumbai dice continued to be friendly but India was stubbornly nonaligned which meant it was a Neither of the 2 blocs during the Cold War then 1971 happened. That's indeed a Gandhi a few months before the start of the India Pakistan war the American tilt towards Pakistan meant that President Nixon ordered the 7th fleet to enter the Bay of Bengal the Indians saw this as a threatening move Mrs Gandhi signed a treaty of friendship with the Soviets military analysts. Served in the Indian Navy and. The. French are pretty with Soviet Union and one of the global. Any one of them consider that. Each other there was no looking back for India and the Soviet Union from this point the Soviets became the biggest supplies of arms and ammunition to India the entire Indian submarine fleet in its early days consisted of hand me downs from the Soviet Union. After the collapse of the Soviet Union India has diversified its supplies but regularly goes shopping to Moscow looking for arms others want to sell it off for cheaper options friendship is also driven by India's energy needs a month and already from good tree house India is the largest oil importer and is looking to invest in and the $10000000000.00 plus investment in question. Is an oil exporter and it needs security and. Finally. Finding any uses for its products but the lure of American culture in India is all pervasive and it's easy to assume that while drug selling India arms and oil the West is winning hearts and minds here are. And the Confederation of African Football has confirmed that they're going to use v.a.r. Video assistant referees in the finals of both this year's Continental club competitions the Champions League and Confederation Cup that technology marches on the nation's capital surely not far behind now we talked yesterday about the International Olympic Committee telling how much a book sings well governing body it's got to sort out its governing issues by next month missing out on the Tokyo Olympics in 2020 it wants to address its finances government. Anti Doping issues and all that before November Steve Bunce is a boxing commentator for the b.b.c. He said any ban could have a huge impact on the sport if we go back in history the last 60 or so years there have just been thousands and thousands. Who are rude all different why I call imagine looking back with a box 30 years 10 years or 20 years time and not having the previous 20 years full of a little bit champions that would leave vast gap in the sport that I've been covering for 35 years it would be a disaster that stay but more sport for you at 1830 g.m.t. In sport today here on the b.b.c. . Another good football exciting to. See what we've heard about all those witch doctors who see things that you have never seen. Looking forward to that I remind of our top stories this morning one week after the earthquake and tsunami on the Indonesian island of power water and mobile phone coverage is returning to some of the last heater areas but also present Supreme Court nominee bread governor reminded admitted some of his testimony senators last trick was to shop and emotional and also scientists at Harvard University of questioned the short time environmental benefits of windpower . Africa you've heard of this phrase America 1st right here is South Africa 1st that was a call from South African presidents or a post on Thursday while addressing businessmen and trade unionists in the country he said that his aim was to reduce the country's unemployment rate which is currently at about 27 percent a surat oppose it described unemployment as South Africa's greatest challenge he said it was turning some families and communities into zombies they say the thoughts of a young South African. In the east and. Who didn't. Enters the week will not end with some Africans or young people not going to the streets young people only called news feeds with its 5 Picotee forming strides on trying to reach out to government officials so they can hear them with the request to get employed and usually those requests form on defense and I'll make another example when you apply for a job in South Africa there is not a. Watch in the home or your qualifications it is about who you know even if you don't know who quantity cation in most cases that's how it happens you know qualification these are and have and most of the time in most government posts you'll find that young people cannot be looks old enough Instead what happens is even if when even if young people get appointed for jobs in the old people used on intentions an internship that might last a year old and then you go back into the vicious cycle of being unemployed which means you need to see content that I've been using to gain employment which is quite odd it is a. Competitive market to the point that certain people that my age have started to some point of displayed despair as in you find that even when somebody has been applying for jobs for so long he reaches the age where they give up they let go and then resort to substance abuse and then paid to let go only to try to curb this construes is that they currently in theory which is not helpful only find some people that you know they resort to crime or they perform certain illegal activities in the introduced food on the table and you find that many people who are good qualifications. Into the uprising to such as gaining. The janitor. Security. To put food on table in order. To sustain families that's what. They currently experience including myself listening to that bus teen who is executive director of the Center for Development and surprise in South Africa great to have you on and listening to the gentleman how common are those stories that is talked about well I don't know the end of this. Is basically saying that I'm not. Qualified for the job they have to do in order to put food on the table there overcalled some you know degree students basically doing cleaning jobs in order to survive run our. Health care has not grown the economy for the last few years. Even before they've acquired very far. About 20 term current to 13 we did not read your current employment. Painters University and Harvard degree we were of those people but as the economy declines of course you have fewer and fewer jobs for everybody including greater. This is terrible terrible computer sacrificed. To work hard to get degrees and then for a job certain the most important thing is how we grow this economy because it isn't a case of growing the economy or is it a case of people doing courses that are not marketable because in some countries people said that you know the courses that the the students are taking on are just not relevant for well the job market if you talk about gratitude it's with a degree from the university and as I say until 2030 when the economy started to get worse and worse existence from leading professors and statisticians is that we were up something old graduates we were asked for the employment for great you. Exactly what job say gazing and was it to you know as good a salary as they wanted when Clinton said I don't know that information that we were certain yet so be all right great you as well sir I'm opposed plan part of it is to say by South African goods by soft and productive this part of the solution is part of what will need this to happen in order to grow the market I mean to grow the job market yes. That's tricky mandation is north to very fully developed it's not crystal clear to me we've had a by South Africa campaign for the last on the chart of the last 810 years it's not clear what's different about the market was there and consumers will buy the South African courts if the price is right and the quantity is right so what do you stand on in your P.J.s Yes the fundamental. The issue is that South Africa. When we make our program for small companies occurs. And for a mix. Of course policy challenges we didn't get a lot of detail about. The issue the superglue issue is we need to have a much more deliberate pace of economy which does require policy reform Ok good to talk to thank you I'm busted executive director of the Center for Development and 2 presidents author Africa life Ranger refugees in Bangladesh is extremely tough nearly a 1000000 people who fled violence in Myanmar living in overcrowded camps in the Cox bazaar area of Bangladesh have to cope with the trauma of the persecution they fled from back home conditions in the camps are difficult and now they have a new concern the government's plan to move some of them to an island in the Bay of Bengal there are serious concerns about the safety of the island the B.B.C.'s you'll get a limb i Reports from Cox is bizarre. It's been more than a year since hundreds of thousands of people from the ringgit community fled violence in Myanmar and came to neighboring bum living here in crops is bizarre They were sheltered in makeshift camps that were built by the Bangladeshi government and aid agencies but a year on what I can see in front of me looks almost like a semi permanent settlement that has been carved out of the hills that used to be here coming here the road that we were driving on was a by madrassa along its side there was a street market where there was shops selling everything from food little knick knacks like hair bands and pretty much any everyday item that people would mean. But the camps are now abuzz with conversations about the Bangladesh government's decision to move some refugees to bash an island in the Bay of Bengal it's a plan 1st announced in 2015 before the mass exodus from Myanmar last year because the Rohingya crisis has been a recurring problem for. All of on who sits outside her bamboo hut stocking up Wood she's gathered to cook food she's worried about being displaced again. I left everything behind in Myanmar my house my catarrh and faced a lot of hardship Navi of just about 2nd down and they're talking about moving us to that island. I'm really scared I don't want to go there. Passion charge has so far been uninhabited is only emerged from the sea less than 20 years ago and is vulnerable to frequent flooding and. Meenakshi Ganguli of Human Rights Watch once the island to be assessed by independent experts. How are they going to help. But Bangladesh is government has defended its plan and work is going on in full swing a British. Fed has been hired to design flood defenses for the island. Among locals and bizarre there's growing resentment about the influx of refugees. Is a vegetable at a streetside market he tells me he wants the Rohingya to be sent away from his town . Have become a minority in our own land and have become the locals they're willing to work for so that they can be all the jobs. Back of the camps children playing with food splashing around the world. Beat by beat people here locking up the pieces of the life that was shattered by unimaginable horror. Going back home is a distant dream. From. Back to our top story this hot file of the upcoming elections in Cameroon votes someday of course for serious stuff as we're hearing early on in the program tensions with an affine of Francophone regions concerns are the length of time Paul Barry has been in power but the lighter side of Twitter. Cameroonians being Cameroonians poking quite a lot of fun at election 2 David Autor from Global Risk International Cameroonian too of course is still with us we have the be a challenge David what's going on social media I think. Talking about the the dominion of the president he goes you know he's talking about a force of experience but also he wants to appeal to the youth population. A critical open and someone like. The president is trying to put up these kind of an image to to appeal to the young population that. I'm a cool guy a glass is allowed to love so this is the kind of image that he wants to put out there I mean because there's a lot of issues about. You know he he signed up but he's just showing people that. You know I'm still following the trend. This is almost iconic dare I say image of him sunglasses and Cameroonians on social media in their own fights trying on their own sunglasses to. Be a challenge but can they run the country.
