This is to live the make another this is just going to plug in a fun time there's nothing in the lives of. These seriously even the would be sure in the way well it's got to be Christmas time you bet why because the Christmas Jug Band is going to be back at the Auburn State Theater this Saturday the 20th and boy are you in for a treat now 10 Eshelman is with us to fill us in on the details. Ok go ahead I'm fine how are you guys just ready for Saturday night I mean you were already you. Know You're sure you're so cool you got to tell him the story behind us because this was just a small group of guys living in Mill Valley and in the mid seventy's and all of a sudden it became the Christmas Japan Well what sort of a well practiced. Were no one really ever intended anything like that to happen. We were actually just a bunch of guys that. Require you know we were right we were going to get we're playing music around Marine County during the seventy's and one time we were just standing around talking and we were we were reminiscing how we used to enjoy some time playing some serious back porch sort Appalachian joke band type thing and it seemed like well Turkey was always involved and you're laughing about that you know we've got to ask you this in Kentucky bourbon in there yeah I think I think yes something like that and then then. Where you know you disagree 1st of all I ever had that no one. From point. We decided to get another bottle about try it out and have a lot of fun and. I recall this Want to Die Hard to remember only to you because it was the 70s in Mill Valley and we don't remember too much of that but there were. There were 76 there was this I could tell you a celebration of the United States and so for us to Nicholas to our day decided to put up a commemorative the counter of Wild Turkey which is this gaudy looking thing which I But you know ceramic turkey with a bunch of red white and blue bunting around it. And my brother gave it to me for a Christmas gift and so you know short of my house and I'm like well I wouldn't kind of got to sit around and drink out of my house I usually go out go to the bar and have shots with my buddies or something but we didn't do that much around the house so. I called up my friends that were live but we were all transplants from Ohio and they were living down the street from you know they. Get it you know you know we got a lot of very good today and. Well I guess what happened I got a bunch of it you guys want to help me direct if I can drink by myself and yeah sure maybe we'll play some of this jug band songs they were talking Ok You know so I went over to their house and they had a roommate so there are still 4 of us and. We started drinking to stop and trying to recall some of those old Ben songs to just kind of making up a new one and you know. You know I don't few hours went by and we we just had the best time we were like you know trying to out kill each other or whatever. And we just thought it was a Monday night we said let's do that next Monday this is great we have a lot of fun. So we can recover Ok great so we can open mic became the Monday night wild turkey Jug Band I know. But I mean really you know what a rock musician and so you know usually Mondays when you're trying to I got to get your act together doing some laundry or whatever pay and bills and we were getting more wasted on the Mondays and we were on the weekends at this point so we just thought we'd never stop just after 10 weeks to kind of stop but during that period and hit it was pretty well known in the area had been running an open mike at our local bar downtown and the old mill tavern and it started to get kind of popular he wished. He would he would you know we had very famous guy to go up there and sing a handful of songs with a guitar and then he'd bring up the hope in my contest but when they got done he'd be making all kind of little interesting critical comments about them you know I'm going to get done playing a few you know folk ballad and he got up on the microphone and say Well it certainly. Was interesting you know you know and everybody laughed and so it became this whole scene and people started showing up so we started going down there was Monday so we would go down there. To try to. Win You know when do you open mikes or if they were what if you're one of those Mondays that we were drinking wild turkey . Because it was his turn to get it forgot to get it so we all got together and it was you know watts or so we went down to do that bar to see if we played a couple of songs that they would give us around on the house anyway and they did that he did. So often and then eventually that year in December Dan and it's a long story but it's actually really how it started. Had a been asked to go down to Southern California do some recording and it overlapped onto a Monday and he could do was open mike and it did but it was real pop in the bar didn't want to not happen so yes we were always down there like continually showing up at this Monday night thing and we knew how it worked and he said Well if you're pretty good host this for me I get is like you know a few songs in the front and you bring people you know work Yeah Ok. So right around that time we had want to go in the bank came from back from back east on a plane with a with another friend of the group x. Over easy and they they were in the back of the plane kind of getting drunk back when you could do that and they came up with this idea Rudolph the bald headed reindeer had a very shiny head and if you ever saw it you wish you saw something else instead you know so they wrote this well parody of that and we just saw the funniest thing ever heard so oh we got this show we're doing in December we'll do that song you know and then we had just been somewhere doing called Bad weather blues that we'd written and we rewrote it for Christmas shopping. Because there's plenty of that going on for some people and you know let me at added a few more recognizable things and threw something together and we ended up with you know a good handful of songs that we did I'm hoping that open mike and the guys are going to bark like hey you know it's kind of like you got what you come back I'm playing on Christmas Eve you know like you have all night of it and he offered it. Really really good money for the time and we thought well sure we're going to be down here anyway we're all in our twenty's and thirty's we didn't have families or anything so we're just going to be down there probably you know so yeah I'm sure. And. I remember that night it's funny because we did manage to get a couple of sets but he wanted 3 sets we got 2 together the 3rd set was a greatest hits of the 1st 2 set because you know we're going to stuff for another year. So that's what I'll not. Be back next year it's great we started doing it every year and then eventually about 7 years later we at this point we were calling it different things to be a member of one year we called it the 3 watchmen plus 4 minus one. First of all stripping around like almost like we're spending more creativity on the band name than on the song for a while but. Well probably got in the band myself included were doing some recording in our house that all the sudden us opportunity came up to move into a real studio so a 3rd of the bank I got involved and we had put together money and moved our stuff into just recording facility and upgraded to an 8 track that are nice reel to reel a try to go off the track you know a bigger way than we had been and so we're Ok we're ready to start we're going to do an album what obligation we do and nobody's really ready for that except that the Christmas good to just been that we had was starting to fall apart a little bit couple of guys had moved away and there are still some of us left we thought you know let's let's get let's get this recorded what some of the song because nobody's going to believe us later and it will be a good excuse to get this thing going so we got together and found another more employer employee left and we started recording it and all we were just really going to do it let's put it down for posterity and we thought well make them cassettes and we'll give it up for christmas present that'll take care of that commitment for that you know yeah so we made up because that's when we started giving them away and. Some local record store said they'd hoped they'd play a village musical kind of a famous record store in Mill Valley during the year he did he had the best vinyl collection and you know kind of famous customers like Carlos Santana b.b. King I guess used to go in there yeah but he but he put some you know hand if I go in the shop if I actually lived across the street from there for the longest time so you thought you. Were doing consignment for Ok great so that you were talking to a local distributor which had international record distributor and Downer fell and again and the guy was not interested so he gave them my number so I called him up and he goes yeah you got this wacky holiday album with Dan Hicks on it I go yeah. Yeah I want to get a copy to Ok so I brought one over to him and he ordered the next thing we know we sold like 450 cassette and. Well you know the other thing too and I don't think people realize this is not just a bunch of guys who you know lived around the block each one of you have worked with some of the some very famous names and you work with Commander Cody Etta James you know the these are good musicians Yeah well you know. It was sort of I was going to Mill Valley and it was a real you know I just north of San Francisco and this is the 70s I think you're getting a little bit you know the exodus out of them or Cisco from the whole sixty's there for just the music scene that was part of what was going on people are moving north and some to get part of really which is just you know yeah 7 miles away or something but it was the lively scene there was kind of interesting there was locked up poets and cab drivers and artist and musicians and. You know construction workers and contractors and electricians all kind of character was esoteric Yeah it was interesting and so little I did ahead but that was what writing music and I'm going to a company fighting the town council if we didn't want to if they wanted to have live music in town because it's so loud carrying on a drink you go back but up but they got to go again so there was a scene there of that kind of attracting musicians that like to live in a town that happened to be working for other people and also I actually moved out. From the Midwest because my buddies were living in Mill Valley and they were already like you know playing music with so many people so I came out. Thank you Atika if you really come out here it's going to happen and I could not think to be part of it and it took a long time but eventually I got to meet this person and that person is slowly you know got to play with them these great people but this was kind of doing all that and it would be good thing at the time it's not really not there anymore that money moved in and a struggling artist and musicians have been forced out of course you know that's going on of course all over all over the West Coast now and I thought it won't happen on Saturday night because the Christmas Jug Band is going to be here at 8 o'clock sharp Ok And it's going to be a lot of fun and what's in store you can just do some of your famous numbers. Yes we're going to do we have a new album out and so we're going to do a bunch of that this is an album from a live recording last year in Mill Valley of all places where the whole thing started in a club there is called the 3 wire that it's been 3 formed in a new location but. You know it's a really good news so we recorded a bunch of shows and when I went through them earlier this year that was there was one last year at. This club in Nevada which is the best so we decided to do all the album from that it crowd was you know what it was it was really inspired at night or something yeah so we're going to do a bunch of bad stuff and we're doing some of the stuff over there you know there's like 7 albums out there we do a little bit of this that the other thing well it sounds like it's going to be a really fun night and I'm going to finish off with since you mentioned about Rudolph I'm going to finish off with a little bit of Rudolph the bald headed reindeer always explain a little bit you're really the reason we ever started doing this is we were we were sort of commenting on it you know Christmas music that was it got pretty going out we were sort of making fun of it we were trying to give people something else we were so we kind of marketed ourselves for a while there is Christian music for people to hate Christmas it's trying to have you know a different thing but no it's going to be a fun time I just know it now it's 8 pm this Saturday night Auburn state theater and they can get their tickets at life from dot com and do it like a Sat right we got to see you there that's right you bet thank you so much for taking the time to be with us today come back and visit anytime All right you're right that that's 10 Eshelman It's called The Christmas Jug Band and yeah Rudolph is involved to. Hey it's that time again time to check in with Chris Nate public information officer at the Go one c.h.p. Because with the holidays why do people get crazy during the holidays Chris thank you so much for stopping by appreciate it but people do go a little bit wacky doing. It. Yourself lots and we've had some things going on you know one of the obstacle of a good point to talk about today about we've got some car theft going on in small electronic stuff going on our very last week at the Starbucks here in town we had some people run in and grab some but it's computers and it's run out. Right day like. Yeah but what do you do. I don't know you see that so you know what they were doing you know criminals are. There's a call that's a crime of opportunity is what it is so you know if you make you try to get folks not be supportable and we don't know where to leave your stuff attended be aware don't be don't be a victim by. Chance by chance you know stay away from don't have a computer sit not by the door Don't be easy access you know don't I mean there used to be a time you'd go in and it was safe you could put your stuff down right well pick up your coffee you want to go and come back and everything's fine that you really mean it's you know it's the season of giving but it's also the season for taking in opportunists are out there you know last like I said last week we talked about your vehicles keeping them safe and you mentioned that. I don't know if the guy or gal that making a difference had the car running in the driveway you know not a good idea you know not going to leave the car running up the driveway and then go back in your house you know you get ready for work you ought to do a crime leave it warming up the driveway because once again you're leaving yourself vulnerable and folks come up steal your car so you know these are just looking for an opportunity and they're looking for the easiest opportunity that presents itself here so if you're willing to partake they're going to they're willing to take you right so you know it's always about just not being you know this simple job because of a bear's chasing you just don't be the slowest runner you know so. It's kind of something with a thief to be the one that's so the most vulnerable Yeah the one that they're going to be an easy target and you know that's a signal look at the things that are. The most startling things in America right now one is the phones your phone so obviously. When your phones that you people are walking with their phones in their back pocket yeah it's good I mean you're not good thieves will be able to pick that right out if you get a big credit card and things like you become an easy target so I always try to keep my things in the front pockets. Just harder to get out yeah yeah your push your wallet obviously still a missing one of those purses don't sit him down have a good grip on them don't don't allow someone to come up grab it same thing with the wallet as you said I put my I want my front pocket I just do one I don't like to sit on it and then to just it's less accessible that way the briefcase and backpacks a lovely girl sitting down again does get grabbed at quick your shopping bags obviously we talked about a lot last week don't set shopping bags down your car and then walk away and go somewhere else because folks you're in a parking lot waiting for that they're watching you're watching you waiting for that opportunity and then get in and out of your car in a matter of seconds so fast that again it's not even a matter of breaking in you know that the crafty way anymore now has mattered smashing your window and grabbing it and yelling Yes You don't need anything to get the ball right but also you know and I've done this too and I bet you have too you have a bunch of packages you know put them on on the car you know on the hood or the front right and then you're kind of putting things back in the car you just take it all takes 2nd in like I said they're just there crime is an opportunity where you have and you have never been waiting for the folks here that are just distracted for a minute or not let their guard down not paying attention and that sort of happens obviously money's a big one the this small electronics like the people to the grab and run thing that's going on right now so this time you know it's just everywhere so you know. Don't think for a 2nd that with your homes thieves know exactly where to go they know where to go they're going to go after they're going to get your sock drawer in the cereal boxes or all the places that we all tend to hide things even to some to turn safe maybe that's what I have I got to do a giant safe that took 4 of us to get in the house because it should be used to being crane for crying out loud because the 1st. People have been so little safe so yeah you know that's the get them and they're out the door then they can work on them all they want to see run off and gone back to their place or being hungry they can't seem to get them up and right so have those anchored down somehow oh that's it into the wall that sort of thing mind if anybody wants to try so hard to steal mine I'd love to see that. Because I for one thing weighs an absolute ton so you know just it's all about being vulnerable in setting yourself up be prepared be aware that we talk about this time a year theft is huge Yeah it's huge you've got folks that want to take advantage of things and you know they're going in your bags to fill prescription drugs that's a big one. In your homes the perk the prescription drugs drugs are one of the most common stone things right now I'm just saying you know the addicts are using them for whatever they need and for so you know just be aware that don't be so obvious and don't don't be. Don't be complacent when it comes to the stuff you know no one's going to that I just thought about the other day is if you're going to be out of town you may not be able to afford a house sitter you know I'm not knowing it but House that are terrific because you've got somebody there taking the mail on back writing or if not make sure you have neighbors who can kind of watch things like you know this is a great idea to have your neighbors kind of keep an eye on things a neighborhood watch kind of things a good idea cameras cameras are big these days yeah if you can get some sort of security system cameras around your house that's always good I have some I have some very big dogs that that that take care of things take out a couple of Right right so yeah it's a just a good idea to have those neighbors keep an eye on things and we don't know I mean I have neighbors are not very close to me but they're close enough that I know that that vehicle doesn't belong there you know with the other thing too don't be afraid if you see a vehicle that doesn't look like a. Belongs and you know the neighbor is gone don't be afraid to call police and be vigilant and never hurts right if you're wrong you're wrong right do you think you did not know you harm no right no harm no foul so you know and I know I'd be appreciative of it if that was to happen so oh good you know I just spew vigilant be aware protect your soul really have a wonderful guy in our neighborhood I think it's terrific he looks like a biker guy he was gentle person you'd ever want to meet the whole world right but he looks like I mean he dresses like a biker guy the whole 9 yards but he's always out there so yeah he's always watching and he knows which cars go away or and we wave to him all the time you know and and named Sean beautiful guy and if he sees a car in front of a house that kind of doesn't belong or doesn't look like they're having a party you're writing right on the door and say Do you know what car that is and we appreciate that I mean sure you just never know where the red watching the routes anybody and you want a guy like that you know we talk about crime being a you know a crime of opportunity people love opportunity to stick you know things and and I mean like that's not going to get taken advantage of that they're going to want to take Yeah right so I'm going to talk to Sean and there you go see yeah we call that command presence in our line of work oh yeah they're going to look for the weak the weak link in the crowd and you know it just don't be that weak link you know be aware and you know you're so Racicot you know stand tall That's right don't look like you're a victim because they will come after you that's right they're going to find the weakest link and if they think you're in it then you're the one they're going to go after so it's all about your presence your demeanor and how you conduct yourself. And remember where you parked your car don't be wandering all over with all these presents and you're right it is never abilities you know that that happens quite often and you know I have been lying if I didn't tell you there's one or 2 times I didn't have to hit my little. Carl aren't they also I could hear you I think. But again don't wander around there wondering what your eyes don't be looking down your phone eyes had on us well know your surroundings don't be so distracted that you don't you don't see the individual walking up on you behind you in between cars that sort of thing just be aware be aware be aware because this time this year this season right now and the opportunists are out there waiting for you until after you have thank you so much again it's just a reminder you know we get caught up in that in this day and music and we find stuff from a lot of chips or kids going on right now we've got folks coming to get toys and I love I love that we can help out the community and it's been great so they can drop still so you can still just feel serenely local you recall all the new council office they could but I'm sure they can accommodate So if you know the family in need we we have we can hopefully we can accommodate them as always you the best you can be with us next Monday I will tell you know have yourself a terrific we give my best to everybody and thank you so much for you and everyone that works with you for the vigilance that you put out there that they're working hard to keep things safe you are doing a great job thank you so much Stay with us more coming your way right here on f.m. I still don't see the flip more than a. Time to check out what's happening on this board seeing Casey for you love he is always on you know on what's happening on the sports scene it's you name it whatever sport it happens to be except Is there any sport for you absolutely don't like soccer so . Yeah I don't get much coverage about Sacramento getting a team or ever talk about the Premier League because I can't sit there for 2 hours and watch a sporting event that could possibly end in a scoreless time well like scoring you watch the beginning and you go to all the other sports and then come back about the last 2 minutes right yet and you know what you know this job in sports must be in a soccer highlight producer you know I mean what high oftentimes it's one nothing at the end and I know it's growing popular now it's not people how can America as a football country that's what will always be you know I almost hesitated to ask you about this but I did just before we went on the air with regard to I mean a game yet at some pre-game show and then again so I guess you know during the during the e.s.p.n. Report there were a couple of cadets behind the e.s.p.n. Guy well on both sides it wasn't just Army or Navy both of them they made some kind of hand gestures and I've never I have no idea what the heck it was something that looks like a circle that you know you all the things means Ok a but then they had a combination of other things and they said it could be the sign of white supremacists now they're all doing investigating now the boat army and navy with their administrative whatevers but you know I don't think that kind of what happened maybe was just a joke or I mean I said I was just looking at the picture in question and I mean it's a circle as you mentioned and I as far as I remember when I was like a little kid a medal if you did that it meant Ok or if somebody looked at it you get punched in like 2 for flinching kind of thing I'll not share that I've never seen it in a white power connotation but again I'm not very familiar with how I never work so I didn't miss it. And on some of the Web sites for white supremacy bad is part of their thing that I don't nobody knows for sure and you know these are kid ads these are kids that are excited to be on t.v. Maybe somebody told you know one of their dorm mates said hey I'm going to watch me get on t.v. I'll get noticed because if I do the simple Yeah well you will flush it out of the back of the report. For everybody to see on College Gameday Yeah and we'll see if anything becomes of that and what a game by the way I mean congratulations they really blasted I mean that game is typically pretty close I mean those 2 teams don't like each other very much and maybe ranked in the top 25 having a great season and had a great bowl game so also an Army when the last 2 or 3 Yeah maybe and maybe had been the power for like the last couple of decades but Army had finally gotten back in contention and I guess if you say we're not having it yes I like to see both and there's the kind of games that you just you just feel good as an American you feel good about the sport you don't want to be tarnished by anything no no no I'm going on off the field I want to turns out to be nothing yeah I want a crowd I mean great crowd great scene and I would like also to c.b.s. Reserves that Saturday as the only game is going to be played so the entire nation's attention is focused on it and I can see casual fans you know friends of mine on social media and such posted about I'm like That's cool a broader base fan attention because you know these are it takes a very special human being to commit your life not only to playing football I don't know me navy but realizing what's going to come after that you know heading into the service for me it ain't it ain't easy to get through West Point around Apple is . One of my best friends stepdad is a graduate he actually went there when Roger Staubach was playing all and it is those are special people absolutely and I'm most respected and a great scene other than maybe perhaps some of the shenanigans We'll follow up see if anything because I'm sad to report Ok Speaking of shenanigans let's get into some real was Raider Nation. Just the tip. Cap and a round of applause don't let the door hit you on your way out of California. With a quarterback for the Raiders in a hurry because the team blew a 16 it's relayed to the Jacksonville Jaguars exactly in the final. 16 of 3 Ajay get this for the 2nd week in a row the team did not score a point in the 2nd half. And say professional football didn't care yeah I guess not I guess they're already down yeah. After And I'm glad that c.b.s. Kept the cameras on and running. With me to carry Coliseum as Derek car was leaning fans rained down on the 28 year old once he made his way into the locker room things turned chaotic there from the scene of. Captured shows fans throwing trash and food and over the place where she sat women gushing blood from her 4 I would not a man or woman at a football game. And asked to leave the field of security engaged in a full on brawl with a fan. Was taken off the field by stadium security and what can you say I mean did you expect anything else if they didn't when we do this is going to happen I was even saying I was actually watching about how they Rosenthal he's a Raiders fan and I don't want to enjoy his last game he's been with Oakland since he was a little kid and it turns into this I mean are you surprised I'm not surprised I'm not surprised but it's also he's gone now they're going to go why did you support him last year I wouldn't have to be honest I couldn't agree more I'm surprised how many butts are in the seats this year for Raider Nation you know they could say well doesn't matter where we play we're just a team it's like no it's not like that is about your community your heart battling for your committee the most storied teams the San Francisco 49 ers The New England Patriots you know the Dallas Cowboys you don't move around you don't move around look at look what's happening the Chargers franchise has descended into a team that yesterday had about 80 percent. Minnesota Viking fans in the state and very badly but Raider fans I mean again. The team want you to be loyal Well you have to be loyal to the fans for them to be loyal to you absolutely and as I just put on my own social media post Lord help Las Vegas when this fan base gets to town I live down there the most disgusting incident I ever saw was the entire weekend of the n.b.a. All-Star Game in 2007 when they brought the Las Vegas people be at her ass. Smoking pot on the streets dine and dash ing at the restaurants on the strip and that was made a Raider Nation fan base but I foresee it being a bit of a problem also by the way it came down to the last magazine you go take a look at that big beautiful stadium tell me we're going to park and how the hell are you going to get to the football game well the beautiful stand him they forgot parking near it so I'll welcome 2 golden one. Right. I foresee you know drunken fans all along 15 trying to figure out how the heck they're going to get back to their car so whatever I want to go to Las Vegas I'm just going to have to remember a guy when there was no game no Sanjay no factual Ok on a good note here I can graduations to the quarterback from ls you know he is the Heisman Trophy winner and landslide vote he got like 90 percent plus of the vote the most ever by a champion and during a speech he. Won $150000.00 in donations to a food pantry and his Ohio hometown 9 efforts on Facebook sent $156000.00 has been pledged to the Athens County Food Pantry and many of those donations are come from Louisiana James dad was a coach at Ohio State and assistant coach so he grew up in this area played football there 1st actually went to the state to play quarterback before he transferred down to Ellis you but he got really emotional and as the crowd as did I as I'm sure anybody certainly did he said look I started this because like everyone else I'm happens. You know it's tough it's a tough. Yes to be from you know you got to be tough to be from there and I think that's what it's all about you talk about using a platform for good as Mr Kerik was as a for quite some time there you go about in a day we got a quarter $1000000.00 in the kitty that fabulous Now I forgot I'm going to tell you about that strange reindeer that's been sitting on my desk for the past couple of weeks I've got a children's book author coming on at 435 out that I'll be back with you at 6 we're talking about suicide mental health during the holidays it's happening and it's betrayal really.
