A.b.c. . This show furnished by retirement h.q. And Konami advisory group. When it comes to retirement we all want the income to keep flowing and the question is how does that work what's the answer to making that happen Good evening everyone I'm Amy Leitz along with David Konami and here for retirement roadmap we're so happy you joined us once again we are talking a new eighty's tonight it's not a super big worry but it can seem like a somewhat super complex word when it comes to figuring it all out and that's where a financial fiduciary. Comes into play so I want to welcome David to the show this evening once again we're always glad to be together with you and we want you to shed some light Sure. Doing a great glad to be with you again tonight in Glad to be with our listeners on this Sunday evening hope you've had a wonderful Sunday always look forward to the Sundays because we always want to have a great program for everyone and you know again annuities is that it's one of those things that for some of year you're going to say roll your eyes and say all God is going to talk about it nobody's And for some of us actually something that you're curious about so I'm just going to jump into it if that's Ok Amy go for it. So here's the problem with annuities everywhere you turn around right now you're hearing about annuities whether it's me or another financial talk show host or there's online googling annuities you to t.v. And on and on and articles and what have you so here's the problem I bet you anything whenever you google or whenever you hear someone talk about annuities it's always the extreme of one versus the other it's either you hate it or you love it whoever is proposing it it's really really exciting you should take all your life savings and put it there or all my God if you pitch the new a 3 run away from it so I want to give you my perspective as a financial fiduciary as an independent financial fiduciary who's been licensed for 33 years we don't have an agenda of recommending any specific product our job is to do Sherry's is to be transparent and to make sure we explain the fine print so annuities they got fees charges surrender charges or riders bonuses death benefit any fall all that it's it's a lot I'm ganna you know if I'm a can make I've got a list I made then it's only says you got to get it exactly that's why it's all. That there is good ones in those bad ones so here's my point when it comes to mutual funds folks there's thousands of mutual funds or all of them good. For the ones that are bad should we stay away from mutual funds Absolutely not or aren't mutual funds complicated Ya know it's kind of a household thing now everybody knows about mutual funds but there is this thing that comes with it called the prospectus does everybody read that cover to cover Well probably not and even if you did I would challenge for you to challenge you to make sure you understand the reward in that document called the prospectus so I want to break this all down for you as simple as I can so let's start by some basics when it comes to annuities there's basically 2 kinds fixed and variable fixed and variable traditional fixed annuity is like a cd what is a cd a cd is a time deposit back by a bank a fixed annuity is a time deposit back by an insurance company what's the difference the differences a cd comes with assurance of an f t i see insurance that is backed by the protection of in case the bank goes into default with an annuity you are backed by the safety and the claims paying ability of the insurance company so that right away is a difference there now The other difference is with that cd whether you like it or not you're going to get a $1099.00 in that account that whatever interest you're earned every January with the new it is their tax deferred you don't get a $1099.00 you create a tax as you take it out so if fixed and a witty today let's say find one at 3 percent well that means for that period of time you're going to be earning compound or 3 percent just like a cd now people will scary about charges when it comes to annuities there are surrender charges just like there are penalties with C.D.'s. So you can however have more liquidity with a fix and you can take up to 10 percent per year of your total account value so it's really appropriate for money that you don't need today for money you want to put aside for the future perhaps in your Ira or any retirement plan there are not short term investments that's the main thing about a new ities Now the other part is charges just like I said a fixed annuity works like a cd however you have to open it fixed annuity through an agent to an adviser and we the adviser will get a commission that commission is just like life insurance just like your car insurance homeowners it really doesn't reduce your principal your principal can only be reduced by early withdraw above and beyond your 10 percent so our fixed annuity is appropriate for you today I don't know because I don't know your situation but generally they're not a recommendation today because of the interest rate environment now the other side of the coin Amy where variable annuities this is where a lot of negative that you read about annuities is probably related to variable annuities why because those are the ones that have principle risk meaning that your actual money is inside these sub accounts under the umbrella of an insurance company so just like mutual funds these some accounts can go up and down with the stock market or the bond market word interest rate sensitive so a variable annuity Generally you don't have a protection of principal and then you have these fees What are the fees mortality and expense charge it's another word of saying it's kind of like a life insurance bill in your variable annuity you have your management fee of those funds or sub accounts you also have riders income riders death benefit riders that will offer you some sort of a guarantee or all of the. Comes with Erap or fees but it's time you add all these fees together it could be anywhere from 2 to 4 percent let's take the average middle 3 percent 500000 dollars variable annuity at 3 percent that's $15000.00 a year that you're paying in fees every year so maybe that's too much perhaps that is too much at least as far as my I'm concerned as an independent financial fiduciary that is a very very high feet so again when it comes to an annuity you've got to identify whether it's a fixed versus a variable so far for a break you know much so much back to have an even break right now and if we only to go take a little stack break I think right now and then maybe just take this all in but really so much packed into one word and really so much for one person or one couple to handle on their own so white why do that let David and his team at the Konami advisory group help you out that's what they're there for They've got 33 years of experience this isn't something he takes lightly folks and he wants to help you that number to call is 888-952-6264 it's 888-952-6264 so as you're listening to the program tonight if you have questions or concerns or you just need a 2nd opinion please folks give him a call they'll get right back with you start of the week and they'll get you go in the kitchen brought in for an appointment and they'll take over for you that's what it's all about right David That's exactly right I mean again and the plan of this is not to make you an expert but I just want to give you enough information that there's just like anything else there's good ones and bad ones now here's where it gets interesting since the early 2001 in nobody that has really come to surface fixed index and there were these basically what these insurance companies have done is they've taken the fixed annuity and they said we tie the interest that you're going to into the. Index of anything that is related to the equities market for example typically we use the s. And p. 500 Index so with a fixed index and nudity in layman's terms again this is my not be very accurate but the way you might understand a relate to this is I call it a kind of a c.d.s. That's mutual fund why because your principle is protected again from the stock market but yet the interest you're earn could be related to the stock market but how does this work well if you invest $100000.00 in a fixed index and nobody and if the index of the s. And p. $500.00 for that one year goes up 10 percent with Typically in a mutual fund you would have $110000.00 minus a few years in charges with a fix index annuity you might get a portion of that home watch that depends on the fixed index and reader you purchased for our purposes today could be anywhere from 45 percent 45 percent so when we have a 110000 in my mutual fund when the market goes down Amy what can happen to that $110000.00 you could basically do that money right absolute say it's going to go it's going out. Exactly so with a fix in that's a new if you keep your gains you stay that 10405000 that's the kind of traction that people like about fixed in the x. Annuities So again just like anything else when it comes to annuities we have a planning process basically we use that as a balance approach today fix and next annuities can be very attractive as a bond replacement that is one way we introduce that in our planning process to our clients but folks whoever it is right now that is listening to me right now please please understand I am not a pusher of annuities we wealth managers we are fiduciary and new is is just a tool so they can. He thing when it comes to annuities is using a balanced approach you know again today because of low interest rate environment and eventually to go up bond funds could go down so for those of you who using bonds as a allocation for safety or you're trying to reduce the risk of your portfolio buy into suit introducing some bonds I question if that's the right thing to do I wonder if the fix in next and it would have might be more appropriate what you want to be kind of aware or run away from are people who talk about extremes people are saying hey I don't like annuity you stay away from annuities they have their own agenda and then you want to stay away from people who are scaring you to death that stock market is going to crash the world is going to be upside down and you should put all your life savings into an annuity So folks if you have an annuity if you are wondering if annuities are even appropriate for you which annually suits you the best if you like the answers to these questions get it from an independent financial fiduciary with 33 years of experience not an insurance person who's only life and health license how can you do that by calling us and schedule your complimentary visit you need to call us at 889526264889526264 and remember like always if you call me the next 20 minutes you will also receive your own complimentary retirement road map which is valued at $499.00 you will receive a complimentary with a lifetime income planning stress testing and a fee analysis lot wrapped into $1.00 phone call for the benefit of having a financial fishery on your side is problem solving and who doesn't want help with that when we come back David will give us an example. Number Febreze i.p.c. Us with other services offered to put on the advisory group are registered of us but if I. Welcome back to retirement roadmap everyone I know it's alongside David cannot any of the Canady advisory group that number to call is 88895262648889526264 David and his team would love to sit down and talk with you they love to take your call so if you hear something during tonight's program be sure to give them a call and give them a chance they've got lots to help out with Davis got 33 years of experience and even a lot of people probably think that your main job is picking investments that's kind of what we think of when we we think of someone who's in the financial advisor category but you know we all know there's that's just a small part of what you do with the reality is that your your main job is solving problems and you've you've probably got a lot to choose from that you can give us some examples of exactly you know the key for any advisor is the planning process you know we all can provide products we all can provide investment tools is. I'm doing better than others some have more experience than others certainly we've had our share of experience for 333 years but we want to make sure that we give that to you as a result of the solving of a problem and planning that we do so I want to point out some key things for our time that we have today or tonight the one of them that is key for everyone is someone with a tax problem that huge with many of our listeners with many of the people that come to see us tax is always number one and then main thing that we can solve for you are what we call r. And d. Issues required minimum distribution issues here's what it can be your retirement plans are what we call tax time bombs because for those of us who have listened and saved sacrifies we put a lot of money in our 4 a one K.'s over time we've created this tax deferred account that has become huge Well any time you take money out of that taxes have to be paid for those clients that have been successful they have pension income coming in maybe they have some rental income coming in now you have a sizable for a one k. Or Ira Now you keep deferring these taxes you keep deferring them because I don't want to add to my tax problem today until the magical age of 70 and a half then you have to take that require minimum distribution and that's when we get a lot of screaming and yelling from people that I don't need this money why do I have to take it out and so where we come in how can we help you today today now when you 70 and I have to eliminate that problem to reduce the burden of tax on your retirement accounts we this is where we do our planning tax planning perhaps by doing some Roth conversions we can show you systematically by paying the tax on a see today through a Roth Ira and I can make that crock tax free for ever. So again actually there are problems the 2nd one is what if you forced into an early retirement I had a lady a few months ago come and visit with me she was really really nervous she had a nice size as the nest egg she had about in her 800000 plus in a $41.00 k. And she was not a spender she was pretty frugal but she was nervous as heck because she had got laid off she was 63 years old and her age she was having a hard time finding another job and because she was in a very experienced very season but she was having a hard time to get another employment center she was frantic Amy when she came to see me is that I don't you know what am I going to do I'm going to run a money I can't find a job why should I do well by providing our retirement roadmap to complimentary which I'm a romantic that we offer you by running that we short her a lifetime income plan when we plugged in what she had to spend what she needed to stand with inflation with her Social Security with her 800000 plus that she had her for one k. And I visibly showed her up to age 100 nonmember she always cracked up when she saw the 100 because I want to make sure that she has complete trust and comfort that that money is going to be there so she left our office 1st of all as very very happy as a very happy client because we showed her that she can stay retired she doesn't have to go force or self into getting a job because with her own eyes she could see every year where her income is going to come from and if she wanted to get a part time job just because she wanted to at her leisure she could do what he wants to do you know. Well here's the thing Amy as a Right now she's not working as she did the part time job comes our kind of dance and she's thanking me every time she's living the good life. Exactly so another one that we've run into which is not a happy story is what if we lose a spouse much earlier than we plan to well I have these kinds of mine that have been clients of mine says 2007 when I moved to Orange County from Kentucky in 2006 or they were one of our 1st clients in Orange County very very sweet couple Well the husband had cancer he had a bladder cancer and he passed away well part of the planning process that we do we always our motto in our office is we are trained for crisis Amy if you were in my office or anyone else if you ever come here when you see our monitors every office in every cubicle on our team there is a sign we are trained for crisis what is crisis to us crisis is exactly this when we lose a spouse when we are forced to retire early or understanding the plan how do we implement the plan so when this spouse which was a widow came to meet with me basically I opened up the folder I said Here is where you need to sign these are 23 places you need to sign by the way this what place you sign that is what we talked about about guaranteeing that income that we talked about remember so we handed that to her we said all we need is a copy of the death certificate and with her on her way we heart we embraced and as we speak right now she's getting her in calm nothing missed a beat because folks you've got to realize when you lose a spouse basically you lose one income for sure that Social Security and you might lose a pension you might use a big lose a big part of the pension all these are going to be shocks to the system of the cash draw of any family so again we are trained for crisis and these are some of the planning that we do for our clients and doesn't that make you feel that when you know that you've got somebody that's not only on your side but heck their motto is trained for. Crisis and crisis comes in all forms whether it be good or bad and you want somebody there that has a lot of experience stave it has 33 years of experience and his team is right alongside him every single day so if you've heard something on this show that you feel will help you or you just want to 2nd opinion give David a call that number is 88895262648889526264 you can also hop on their website it cannot be advisory group dot com and they're there to help moving along in this segment with the problem solving one of the things that probably a lot of folks have come up against is you've maybe had a bad experience by either a broker or another adviser in the past and so you come in and you've got to. Say you put your cape on David you come in and you sat probably right away by the bank they thought it would. Go as though he did that on that note you know this isn't a kind of a it's a hot spot with me because many times the number one complains and happen for the insurance department or the Fender or the f.c.c. Is a broker advisor coming behind the scenes and making the other guy look bad and causing all kinds of problems here is what I would have done in storms or for so again as an independent fiduciary we want to make sure we are as fair as we can be because you change I change the environment changes the economy changes so anything that I see today yeah hindsight is 22 Any always but we want to make sure we're not bad mouth in any advisor or any decisions that you've done in the past all we can do is call the company point out the facts here is what's happening how can me make it better for you so again rather than putting salt on your route or making this hurt even more what we want to be about is how can we make it better for you here is what you've gone here's what happened so far. Now let's make this better and again this is huge That's where many of our clients are very thankful to us that they didn't make me look like a dummy or you didn't cause problems legal issues for me and other adviser and now I've got a lot of headaches the other one that I want to talk about which is another very very you know happy one that I run into at least once or twice a year is where I meet with a couple you know we try to meet with couples as often as possible if you're married who want both of you there because I want to make sure we're a good fit and we like each other and so one couple we recent history was that you know the husband was retired she had her job but she thought she had to work for a long long time and so again talking about our retiring roadmap that we offer you that plan complimentary inside then retiming roadmap is a lifetime income benefit planning that we do meaning that again just like an earlier I talked about in the program we will show you line by line what is it going to look like for the next 30 to 40 years depending on your age well I did that for them in this case the wife had to work another 3 years so they came back and said By the way David we were wrong about what we needed to have on a monthly expenses here's how much more we need and I'm like oh great that's really the harness of the plan well it was Ok but then she came back and said Listen looks like we're going to be fine what if I quit my job now because I want to travel I want to travel with my husband I said well let's try it we did that and it worked like a charm of course they had done the hard work they did the saving they did all the sacrifice all the years of the 401 ks and IRAs but when I showed them in my conference room that big screen that we have line by line was going to fly with her . Her quitting her job like immediately oh my God she started bawling it was like you know tears of happiness that I cannot believe this I see this with my own eyes and it's not a take on a reservation the next day she cried I want to take you next day that we should get it and they're traveling they've bought a vacation home in Arizona and you're traveling all the time and that's one of my recent happiest success stories that we can talk about so again folks if that describes you if you worried about retirement if you worried about what happens to your page when your paycheck stops or if God forbid you lose a spouse all you need to do or maybe you need a 2nd opinion all you need to do is call us at 888952626 or 889526264 remember for the next 20 minutes anybody who caused you get a complimentary retirement roadmap which is valued $499.00 you received no cost which includes planning for your retirement and income plan stress testing for wrist and if the analysis all of this complimentary by calling us in the next morning isn't it always a good thing to end the show on a happy note we love that last story that you share day that those are stories that that come about all the time we always want the happy stories of the pushy sharing this with us tonight thanks so much for listening everyone we hope you found this information helpful for retirement planning is a huge life decision you don't want to have to go at it alone thanks for joining us . Soko we were talking about the sounds that your animals might hear that we can't hear because they're hearing is phenomenal cats hearing and dogs hearing far exceeds ours and so is there a vision to of course we know that scientists have told us that for years but not till now Dr Jeremy Turner he's from the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in the department affirm a college of all places to be studying the sounds that animals hear he believes that there may be sounds that are emitted from our electronic devices that can actually affect our animals Well we'll find out more details he's on the show in just a few minutes also you know that guy that delivers all your mail and all your packages through rain through sleet through snow oh yeah and has to deal with that dog of yours that dog that keeps barking every time he comes to the door of course we're talking about your mailman dressed in a meal woman or male woman male person male person they have to deal with dogs and probably other animals all throughout their route all the time and there's new statistics out that show that Los Angeles which was the number one city last year is now the number 2 city for carrier bites postal carrier bites and attacks it went down $100.00 did go down so who's number one you'll have to wait and find out we're going to talk to just a regular old postal carrier a guy that's on the ground he's out there he's our attention I understand he may have been bitten I believe he has Ok We're going to find out what he thinks about his route and your dog's Laurie what are you working on well dogs these days are everywhere you know from weddings to supermarkets to restaurants and you name it but now jobs are being included in the rite of passage when somebody has passed into funerals We'll tell you about a dog who had to go through her owner's funeral so that she was able to finally get on with her life if she was so adversely affected by it and she was grieving animals can read Sure but this is becoming a real common thing now for people finally seeing this to start including their pets in funerals. Find out more with Laurie at the bottom of the hour 1st your calls for Dr Debby we're joined by Loni 186-640-5840 extension 5 let's go to Rosemary Hi Rosemary hello we're you today I'm in color coding because I'm home with them so Ok so what's going on I have a whole team here to help you thank you so much so I have a 5 year old female cat you know our last Friday took her to the hospital because she wasn't even core 3 days and that they wouldn't notice that you know she was hiding as in you know she usually lives in the interval rash and then I sometimes you know we lose her inside you know just to save her but we noted that she was having told you things so we took her to their doctor their doctor did x. Rays as you said as she had closed the fusion so when she went ahead and put a chest tube and then she said she will send a specimen to the tune of you know to see if it was up to the touch with a she called us and she said that she her is not just you know as you said as she has something called you Kyra Ok so she said that you know what she's a common with gusto her to another hospital closer evaluation as she's thinking maybe a car bomb a possible surgery but she said it's going to be more expensive what they so far get all these over 5000 since Friday and the 3rd when she 1st is sort of the chest she will $250.00 M.L.'s of blood fluid and since then they've been aspirating every 4 hours so they said that the Loyce is being used and I think she sees but sometimes you know it was up to 30 again so today she gave me an average of 100 in those for for they so if you told me that she's definitely comments my cut to come back home should have really generated to have that just was removed so if you recall many that I'm either with take her to another hospital or they just you know. See. And feel so bad for Iraq. Because this is a very very sudden illness we have and when cats develop what we call what we call the thorax just for those that aren't familiar Kyle is a fluid that circulates in our bodies and in animal bodies and it basically drains the immune system and in situations with dogs and cats what can happen is we can have high pressures in the lymph system that actually the Kyle will leak into the chest and that will compress the lungs make it hard to breathe and then hence you know we put like a tube and in like in your kitty situation and that helps to keep that fluid from building up and compressing the lungs so that we can be comfortable and then also the Kyle that stays in the chest can create a lot of inflammation that can cause like a scarring around the lungs that can be bad if we don't manage that fluid there are situations in some cancer this just happens for no reason in other cats it could be from an underlying heart or maybe even like a tumor in the chest so I agree with your doctor that you know it's wise to get evaluated by another specialist and that's what I'm guessing she they're recommending so that we can try to figure that out but if I could sit here today and tell you that your cat did not have any of those other causes and it was what we basically call idiopathic it just happens for no good reason then in those situations it's a long haul and it is something that does require extensive i.c.u. Level care your veterinarian is recommending a type of a surgery where we have a sickly have the duct in the chest kind of tied off so it doesn't leak any further and that can be successful but it doesn't quickly fix things it can take up to a month a month and a half for this condition to be under control so even with the best of treatment you're looking at a long haul here of a lot of involved medical care you know I know nobody wants to hear the words should be euthanized but it is something certainly to consider that there's a lot of medical need with this condition now there I will tell you though there are some he says if the fluid isn't too rapid in building up that we can try some things medically to help and that might. Starting on a low fat diet an ultra low fat diet there is a nutraceutical called Root which is basically a kind of an anti oxidant that has believed to affect some of the pressure in the blood vessels and it helps to decrease the build up of this Kyle fluid we combine that with repeated chest tap So right now your key has a tube in her chest which is the port at which they're pulling this fluid out in some situations if it can is more stable we might say every week tap and that's where there's not a necessarily left in the chest but the catch if it's you know hopefully stable enough to be at home would return to the veterinary hospital and receive a chest tap and hopefully do well enough that that could be done on an intermittent basis I can't tell you that if your chief falls in that situation or not and you know I think your veterinarian on site is probably the best app to tell you if that is an option or not but that is kind of that middle road of between doing everything possible with the surgery versus euthanasia so it's kind of in the middle and in if they feel that might be worth an effort then certainly I think a good conversation about that. There is there something specifically that they were wanting to treat or was that more they were just concerned about the inflammation. That. Just. Sort of grew you know. Because. You know. It's. Because it's just you know. You think you know this happened but you know the money issue you know it's. $500.00 you know that is. You know what it was about the 1st of which would be. Ok You know I mean I think that sounds very reasonable. To see how she's doing and you know I think steroids certainly could be helpful I wouldn't use that as the sole therapy you know as I said you know repeated chest taps in the the Rudin and then the low fat diet you know I think anything you can do medically to help you know make a good outcome would be everything I would try for her and then you know if that doesn't help the finances get to be too much with the repeated care that then I think you may have some difficult decisions to make there so I hope for the best for you and your baby there Rosemary you know 5 years is not very over that all thank you very much for and of course Rosemary all of our prayers to you and your family and hopefully you'll find the strength to make it through this thank you thank you very much thank you our toll free 186-640-5840 extension 5 now doesn't surance cover this kind of stuff if she had had insurance and this would be a type of a condition that I would expect insurance would help with and really kind of you know as long as it churns policy was in place before that he you know had these kind of signs. This is one of those horrible unexpected medical emergencies that you just don't expect that can happen so it can be very it's a high intensity i.c.u. Level care kind of condition so it sounds like her vet has done an awesome job and she's getting the best care right now 186-640-5845 this crunch a serving of animal radio is brought to you by the great free red bar naturals can food for dogs and cats always made in the USA with natural functional ingredients to support your pets optimal health care website red barn Inc dot com Thank you Red Barn for underwriting animal radio people say less is more at Red Barn we think less is better it's what you want find that sets are natural premium pet food apart by products no corn or soy no fillers just the natural ingredients your pets need to live the healthy life they deserve look at the label we want you to read by our natural pet food simply the best find in your local pet specialty store. Dryer grain free rolled food it's protein packed with less risk of food sensitivity This is the animal radio news that. I'm Laurie Brooks there was this woman in China I don't know if you guys heard about this she was let's just say stunned to discover that her dog a Japanese Spitz was actually a domesticated fox. Here's what happened she paid $190.00 for what she believed to be a spitz puppy from a pet store in China and for months she raised the puppy but kept noticing some kind of odd behaviors like the dog never barked and then it's 3 months old it began refusing to eat dog food then she noticed some physical signs that kind of seemed weird to you she said the dog's fur got thicker when it reached 3 months old and its face became very pointy at 3 months and its tail grew longer than that of a normal dog or any that she'd seen what really bothered her though she said was that other pet dogs seem to be scared of her dog when she took her for a walk so she turned to her friend who worked at a nearby a zoo and told her that her dog wasn't a spitz it was really a white haired domesticated fox. Yeah luckily she knew somebody in the zoo offered to take it and she thought it was a good idea because there would receive you know the appropriate diet and certainly a better living arrangement for a fox then an apartment in China I guess in China you don't go see the vet as soon as you get an animal to back that their story years ago of someone who got a dog and it turned out to be a lamb or something the other might not matter but that yeah if you notice these stories all come out of China could have been Japan I'm not sure I know it's somewhere in Asia how do you not know it's a Lamb Well you know those Bedlington dogs that have that funny face. She like that's the haircut. It doesn't come on when they're babies it's hard to. There was a murder yeah it was actually it was a celebrity there yeah I got a look at that because now I had to know what celebrity that was that would be too funny the suburban Detroit Police Department is giving another kitten a new home after their newly selected police cat which we told you about a few weeks ago pasta for badges has been to join the force badges You see he has Yeah he has feline leukemia it's a viral disease suppression it's contagious to other cats so he should be kept in you know a colony of other cats that have the same disease but it can also be fatal in the long run so it's can be dangerous but it can be managed so badges is going to receive treatment he's going to be Ok hopefully and he will eventually be adopted into a home where he'll either live with other cats who have feline leukemia or he will be an only cat but the police department the Troy Police Department in Michigan has not given up on its plans to have a feline mascot Instead they have officially sworn in a new cat a kitten named hospice or don't it gets a pretty big series. And this is going to be all playing out on social media I would imagine of course along with very cute pictures of the kitten and her adorable name POTUS or don't it that is gun viral they've got a huge amount of likes I can't even remember I haven't checked in the last few days but astronomically so I'm Laurie Brooks you have more breaking animal news any time at animal radio doc. He is he's a mailman down in inter-county actually in Oxnard California he's been doing it for 13 years. It gets a lot of exercise walking around all the toilet all day long as you were talking about the dogs that he was in only animals that he runs into he never tells me about that and I'm kind of surprised I don't know if he's ever had any issues I think if he did he would have told me we did a story on that cat that was taunting the mailman so they decided to stop delivering mail there yeah I had to go pick up his mail at the post office because you know killer attack cat. You know you told me earlier that you 2 have been attacked by cats and yeah when I was pet sitting chased me down the hallway and chased me in the bathroom to where I locked myself in the bathroom to stay here I have to you know scary Oh yeah and then when I was a teenager a cat just showed up at our house my parents took it in and I would come home you know at 10 o'clock at night the cat would be sitting on the porch and would not let me get to the door and I would have to throw rocks at the window because a cat would chase me and by me if I walked up to the front door I didn't shoot like I was he had as you say once at a squirrel attacked you 2 while you were on your bike riding your bike I was riding my bike and it was I was writing by a trail and there was a fence post all along the trail and a squirrel was sitting on the fence and I thought and as I rode by it leaked and it jumped on me and wrapped itself around my ankle I had shorts on and it wrapped around my ankle was pedaling and I was trying to shake it off and the bike was wobbling I thought you know I was going pretty fast I was going downhill I thought I'm going to fall and I was trying to shake up a scream and trying to shake the squirrel off my leg and finally let go so I've been and I think I would have paid to see that yeah that would have been a good video too bad that yeah doesn't exist I've been attacked by dogs cats squirrels Yeah I've been attacked by a goose really settled and my brother had one when we were kids and that goose hated me but my brother thought it was just the sweetest thing in the world which it was not but other friends had geese too and I was I think they know because I was scared to death of them and yet here they go his'n in honkin and fly and you want to know how smart these animals are doing. See my car in the parking lot this morning I did how what the heck had been there was so much bird bomb poop on it I just cleaned it 2 days ago just washed it I just washed it and it's all lined up all the way across of both sides all the way up and down you've got to tell me that the bird didn't know what that what he was doing yeah that you are getting it parked under a tree you know these guys really flew back and forth over my car I must have pissed them off or I don't now it's like one of those starling or a shins or whatever they're called It could be it was that we do have some starlings that I've been hanging out and damn they're there harassing the cats they come up to the window and they look at least at least start squeaking at the cats Yeah but your car was like all over the top all dripping down the side of like white I think it actually makes my 957 dots that look pretty good look to look nice yeah but like I said back in New Jersey we love them the river the jet skiers would go by and we would have swans in the Swan Sometimes they would attack sometimes they would and one of their herd this guy screamed and he's going to get away from me and trying to get away from the swan he ended up blowing the modem in his jet ski that he just rebuilt who was a stand up I guess there was something on the island wrong and the thing pulled his boot off like his wetsuit boot pulled off his boot I had to help him and it chased him all the way to the bulkhead where we ended up pulling his Jet Ski a jet ski out and he had to go you know put it up on the shore but yeah I mean and that was vicious he's going to be one of the one with these birds I don't know we're taking your attack animal stories. For all 5 there's a brand new survey out that talks about the dog attacks what cities top the list of dog attacks Laurie what city do you think tops that list you want to take a guess there you know I don't know about is Congo you know I would have to say l.a. Because I'm so close to l.a. I would think I'd be l.a. L.a. Is number 2 the top city. Number one as far as dog attacks bite. Houston he's seen less than yes. Did you not. So I figured we'd get an expert on the phone we actually have a letter carrier in San Luis Obispo California Ramiro Demarco is joining us hi Ramiro are you doing good I don't very good are you out on your route right now I know this so actually Monday I was here enjoying oh god how long have you been working with the postal service it's been a little over 3 years now fun job do you like it I love my job I love my job yeah interacting with people walking around and being on the street enjoying the weather I love my job have you run into any dogs that have caused you any trouble Oh absolutely yes have you been bit I've been bit one side been. More times than I can count Is this common or are you just look really tasty. Sort of calm and. Are Well I was going to call it. 6 to 8 months we get different residents and they don't know the rules so idea what that allow it to where other presidential areas don't do it as much because the resident I know to keep them away so when you 1st see a dog what goes through your mind do you do kind of a value at the situation media evaluate the situation I look at is what they I and they do approach the resident before I even approach pay Oradour I kind. Of for lack of a better word I bolted to the whether the dog can jump a fence or not and then I make my decision from Dad if I feel like there and directed me then I just go ahead and try no dog on the street and get the house. He heard absolutely absolutely ping Tyra mirroring take a quick break. People say less is more and red burn we think less is better it's what you won't find that sense our natural premium pet food apart by products no corn or soy no fillers just the natural ingredients your pets need to live the healthy life they deserve look at the label we want you to read by our natural state food simply the best find in your local pet specialty store. Dry or chicken broth food as a meal or shredded as a topper it's animal radio celebrating the connection with their pets seems like we've gone down a weird rabbit hole today we have our local mailman or mail person Ramiro Demarco talking with us today and what it's like to be a mailman around aggressive dogs do you carry a like what is it maybe sore or any kind of pretend don't we sort of thought we. Would call it Doug repellent not a strongest amazed by what we thought that there were you know we do carry something like that and then we have the carry almost like a blow or makes a really loud noise and they kind of. Scared about what happened in the actual case we were bitten re surprised I was very surprised I wasn't new killer or kind of unaware of. Myself always been a dog person. Stressed today when I really shouldn't I gave my back to the dog and I was handing in the rest of his kids to leave the dog just out there and they got up from the porch ran to me and bit me in the back of my leg and it all happened within and stabbed and I hear the dog. Saying are color not happen and leave a lot of things going against you the 1st thing I think of is uniforms and sometimes dogs there are frightened of uniforms and then you're interacting with their owner and their owner should yeah there they need to feel like they need to be protective I guess so they're. Oh absolutely absolutely I mean you're walking into their home their residence where they live and guests and that and their job their number one job is to protect their owner so I mean you've got to look at it from their point of view it's well you're stepping into their ground I see that there's a You Tube video put together by the postal service on the Postal Services You Tube channel on dog bite prevention What is that about yes yes there there was a letter that went out and then obviously a video that anybody can go on u.s.p.s. I come and look at it and it's just it's just a residence and people to be aware of the daily situations that we go through and obviously our safety is what we like to do a great job and deliver to you on a daily basis and we'd like to live in a any kind of. Anything that can prevent us from that so yeah if I may I do have a few tips Yeah we would love to hear those tips Ok All right so basically if the carriers deliver mail or packages to your front door we will like to ask residents to place their dog in a separate room and closed the door and I room before you open the front door some dogs like to burst to the to the screen doors or even the plate glass windows to attack the visitors. Dog owner should always keep the family pets secure also a parent should remind their children or their family members not to take them out directly from the carriers and the presence of a family pet. The dog may view the person handling the mail to a family member as a threatening gesture we see that a lot. So that the post office places the safety of their employees as a top priority and any moment with shields run in by the dog or if the dog is loose or on a leash the owner might be asked to pick up the mail at a post office until the care is assure the dog has been restrained. And also if a dog is roaming the neighborhood mean if the dog is loose and has gone into other people's yards. The owner's neighbors are some I.V.'s to pick up the mail at the local post office as well just because we feel that through it going to have been chased all the way back to my mail truck until I actually got it and then they went away but it's happened to me. And you don't see in common either you know you keep talking about dogs and even threatened by any other animals maybe even attack. Believe it or not I seen a snake. Plenty of spiders I've been stung by was all the food that not family pets Oh but I've been chased by cats i've been said by dogs the cats will really chase you you know they all yeah absolutely absolutely and I just do not trust them. Well I got to salute you because you you while you do have a fun job at times it can be Carol we need to put up with a lot of crap too and I always put up with our share but we absolutely love our job and would take a lot of pride in here often Thanks for spending time with us today thank you sir thank you for having us there's carrier Ramiro Demarco joining us here on a normal radio you know I had a tip from my mailman to.
