Ever heard watch they're turning into something different Yeah tells me. I'm curious so when we do that segment of people have any sort of comments about their well you know next door neighbor appen Yeah yeah well how is it gone the way you expected it to or is it right some of the direction you're different is a patient thing right now Fox News reporter Ben Brown Ben welcome. It's good so we're aware here that people are fleeing California we're also aware that almost everybody at least in sort of south of San Francisco I don't know what separatists there are always different but it sounds as good everyone is hoping to get out of California wanting to get out of California how many rocks you leaving. Yeah it's kind of staggering the numbers so California has a hideout like Gratian with the 660000 people next fall by that is Texas 846-7000 New York 432004 comparison that's according to the latest 2017 census data and in Nevada here alone 56 percent of the new residents are calling about a home between 2013 and 2017 and 20 a.t.m. And 36 percent of all the drivers licenses surrendered and the vat of came from California so for comparison the next High's percent was you know 6 percent from Florida. Which is it's wild so in the experts I talked to here in town today don't expect the migration to teeter off a time soon it's been pretty consistent you know in that 304050 percent range now for quite some time so it's really quite stuck in the numbers and it's interesting just to underscore it's I've been around here a Yes I spoke to a couple people you know this one guys one gentleman just bought a house out here $450000.00 less than what his thing which county that's about a 100 more square feet is on a 30 acre of land he has a swimming pool and he knows now you can put his trucks out there as are the out there. Is another really upscale neighborhood hear her sing about that and the scammers just driving around and I pulled them over and I said Are you done that is from California and sure enough they're like you have we're just we're moving here from past in a we can get way more bang for buck we're just driving around looking at these homes like this home right here that we're looking out before 5000000 in California and you know it's in the upper like $700000.00 here but it's not and it's not just the home prices that are driving people out of everything that is sort of the graves of people looking at what's driving them out who are being strangled by taxes on their at the gas pump the heart attacks and you notice we're all running to states that have no tax state tag it's great that Nasm really went motivating the exodus and it's something that is another story here too that we heard from so . Well people who went down to Texas 100 percent a quarter one reporter of the California to Texas had the exact same experience when they went to apply. To the building with inspectors back to their 1st heart and for some upgrades every building inspector after he talked in Vermont looked up at them and said You must be from California this is this is your land do what you want in California you can't do anything to anything. You know you don't get let it go for it I mean I care from up there you know what I was carrying for studio Court reporter for this work the road here and I got you know. Part of it for a 3rd of the car yeah I mean my husband and I actually when I was pregnant with my 2nd child and I was doing a weekly show on Fox Sports Network you know for on television and I was like you know I could fly back from Vegas that fly in fly out the same day cheaper to live in do that every week and live in Las Vegas we had a realtor I mean we were looking at homes in Vegas and we came this close but then by the time we finally decided to pull the trigger I was like I'm so close to my due date that we ended up staying here but we highly considered and we were looking I mean every day we had like 50 homes to like I really reverted you're out already is that right. I mean in Portland Oregon I say here for almost 4 months and let me. Go away after I mean I've already read in l.a. Wow you need to know how to collate 20 new. Negative news last 2 bedroom one and a half bath house in a you know obviously a nice neighborhood. My home. To really go and so that little house one place who you know more moved to Oregon in one house. Bigger although we didn't need a bigger. Neighborhood. 500000 yeah branding I think we keep here is the quality of life they're not they're not here we have homeless horrible roads traffic extreme expense put it put it there strengthen our hand out and nothing nothing to show for it so of course people think life is getting worse not better right and people sense it and they're they're moving with their feet. Yeah I mean the median home price in Clark County is about 300000 I think in Los Angeles County it's about 70000 or so and just curious how you misgiving is from from California that remove from from here that why did you move I mean I just I got transferred for discovering Alexion Nevada you know is having a battleground state coming up to 2020 so I think the thing is like there's a lot of great aspects about California right I mean you got the beach there's so much to do it there's shows a lot going on over there 'd but like your point do you want to live paycheck to paycheck. And all my friends on the lady on the other there's just so hard to decide we want to do because you know you have to think always coming up next and so you know it's give or take it's a fun city to live in I don't take anything away from that but I think people are sent to realize like you have to sell my house here. In California come out and about it by house of cash have 802200000 left over and you know go out and live life and travel and not be losing money on a regular basis at the gas pump and when the tax man gets fair Exactly. And then traffic is actually massive quality of life difference so is there any profile that the kinds of people that are moving it seems to me we're losing the the the very meat of our economy we're losing middle class for news right and probably retirees too I would think are going there. To apply exactly the retirees with that nest egg like the moving out the the jobs in town when in fact most tech sector jobs the higher end jobs the middle class to get better is moving 'd over to the data you know that is actually trying to cope from those higher tech sector jobs as schools come out of there ever that's coming out there but people are getting priced out of California because I actually have this report I just wonder times the median monthly rent for the median monthly rent in Los Angeles are going to make $47.00. 7 hour right now just yeah so it's crazy all those jobs of us are working out like you know job making 6 figures it's just you can't afford it right he doesn't can't put it with myself well if if there was some extraordinary quality of life to be had here that's one thing. The opposite right and I think that's why you are actually people making people move here because it takes a lot to actually make people uproot and rise to a new place of long term California actually you know people have to see it and when people are leaving their families and that makes them sad we hate what some what the current leaders have done to the state they've absolutely across all different strains you know yeah many different domains so how do you what about this data I keep reading that California is getting a net influx of sort of high end employees highly educated upper end that are taking these high tech jobs I don't read that that was compensating for the e flocks is that wrong now. I guess I mean the California dollars and other problems out migration of a couple experts I suppose and that's always going to be as you can tell it's the largest the world it's important to be you know global powerhouse Yes a successful high tech jobs Hollywood over there as you have all these great movies so you really get that demographic at some again but you were at the same time lose that the classic you talk about so the end. But it took a quarter to Person of the numbers 660000 people left and 2017 followed by let's close this with 200000 mustn't touch That's right yeah so the numbers are staggering. California I mean people if this is a threat to California you know the something that's going to be an accidental crisis you know people I don't I don't know I think you listen we have major businesses one after the other moving out Nissan took off one business and I after another because of the way the state government polishes everybody if you just move yeah. Small business don't want to be here exactly taxes all the time what are we going to get the train from Vegas to l.a. . Be fantastic Oh. Yes and promise since let's I mean the high speed or whatever can you imagine if they actually built that part from Vegas to l.a. And let people take a train out there they forget that's been promised since today's Friday was 3960. 6 when they began promising that that would they would actually make money on that but no let's not do that because you know people don't want that they want to ride buses which are empty and even if they they're saying that they're going to people ride buses for free now you know they're still going to be empty Bill what you got . Yeah you know like I'm out here a middle class My wife just retired I'm retiring what you're doing and in Colorado Colorado Springs I love Colorado Springs I live there Harvey News I'm not a City Texas and the bad of these are were Californians are gone I only said I might move back to Colorado to go Bill we're going to miss you and you do hear Bill will kind of business for him I'm not sure I'm a salesman I'm a traveling salesman and l.h. Part of my curatorial right know and it's tough filthy nasty don't thank you thank you Bill Well well said Benny see what you say that's his job he's a very high school around paying them some highest taxes in the country too to witness that city. Bad That's what we got here. Pretty well it was. Just a little I would do anything I would leave so I think about it I would. Absolutely I would if I could Tennessee is calling my name National's a beautiful city and these are states that run the yeah you tell me Go Visit think my God these things can operate without state income taxes somebody I know Magic yes if you think about how they do that. You know I spent a lot of time been in New York City and the tax structure in New York is very similar to here but I always say is but you get a ton a magistrate open the door night I see my tax dollars at work everywhere and I'm appreciative and I'm Ok I'm fine I'll pay those taxes here the opposite you have to know how opposite you seek the contracts I work where is this money going yeah what's what's happening what kind of incompetence is going on in our government yeah here's what Dana has come to Dana go ahead. And. Take it he's been working with. His. Own how they ended December but the family settled tell it well and yet every single weekend. Wow I mean down the leg in my my comment. What I thought it was a state of California is financially going to let like the last 100 and just gave up $150000.00 state income tax contributors at least right because yes because right now 5 percent the population pay 85 percent or so of the taxes so when that group started to roading it's over it's just over it seems to me homey crazy I don't know what you think then yeah I mean like your point I lived in New York City too for little bit I was a Los Angeles and actually from Arizona interesting to jump around and see these different cities and how they are structured my. Quality of life and to your point I mean New York you could walk out of the suburbs to scrape where California you're sitting in traffic right so there's a huge difference there and then Arizona Nevada I mean you don't have to be just a little less to do but I mean. What you get for your dollar gets is so much or right you're. Right and there are quick flights out to l.a. If you want to come visit for the weekend you know it's like it's cheap to fly on Southwest and get a flight m where I mean so it's and that doesn't help people back anybody thinking like a millennial so I don't ever the travel thing ever but here look let me tell you as a jet xor with one of my baby boomer. Is that you start you're worried about retirement Yes you can't exactly fund your return he when he mentioned a people with a nest egg I don't need to get out before they they get it after taking out take everything away from you know your house is not your yap pretty they're going to tell you what to do and even if you leave it to your kids they take out a big part of it now so like yeah move out. Yeah how long do you guys live there oh I've lived here for 25 years I've been here a lot longer and but I've been I've lived other places along the way you reborn here I was born Yeah you know you're here and lived knowing that for a while it's been a long time in New York Yeah Tony what do you say. What I said is I just got back from Santa Joe you know Texas my family. You know we want to move somewhere there's no city. About to 50 you know what. I like San Antonio I know it's crazy and there's no we literally had to look hard to find a homeless person and we did we purposely looked to find the homeless population and there was no other arch there yesterday and I drive all over and if I go to l.a. There's you know towns on our guard towers almost It doesn't matter where I go it's just in saying I saw us on t.v. . After all or yeah it's it's evidence that we're that's in our face every day of how they feel and our policies are inviting more and more and then you know once you get a group and then more join them because they're like oh there's great benefits Oh I there's free handouts let's do it I can do by Tod's on the street in the nick get calls from everywhere I mean l.a. Already calls to people from all over the world right l.a. It's the dream and so I can be a movie star I can be a writer I can be a whatever but then you bring that on top of it of like oh well if I'm going to be homeless somewhere or want to go with the services are there friendly to me of course they are that's what's happening. I mean affordable housing the super out. You know they're building affordable housing you know clearly not the one I just saw a success it's almost sort of story I think told percent over the last year. In the county so bad. You're believing the whole Yeah he doesn't know how this is not about house yeah we all know it's that the housing is no problem the politicians keep saying it's we've absorbed about a 1000000 undocumented immigrants they all found housing Ben They all found housing the people that are on the streets are drug addicts and mentally ill and that's it they have given her apartment and they're still going to be on the stereo it won't go now refused to go into any sort of housing environment so that's your main population and don't you don't believe what the politicians are saying here it's insulting now they're worse what are you getting worse off it's getting worse because we have we're not addressing the issue right now probably arrogance not a housing problem we have and we have and we have a dead Jim some problems with our legal system where the none of the laws can be enforced in this state in this city particularly right Dan thank you for the report and thank you we got it 8022 to 5 pm banking and brown fox news reporter you can follow him on Twitter at b.d. If you let me in to Dr Drew it now we're going to speak to Austin Fletcher aka Flaccus robot that put the documentary up on Facebook about homelessness here in Los Angeles caught our attention you know there we reached out to him he's going to come talk to us about he's now he said he was leaving the air. Which he has he's in El Paso now so we'll get we're going to talk to him there but one of these we were talking about now are these apps neighborhood apps next door things like that that were designed to essentially be a neighborhood watch sort of technology rightly and if they're there to help you well I think of Originally I never went on it my husband went on it for around our area and it was more like you know if there's crime going on if people are breaking in your cars or maybe stealing your mail or whatever of the way for neighbors to sort of be all on the same sort of app I guess more convenient than Facebook or something I guess but it's just the people are in your neighborhood and my husband signed up for it and signed it and I think he deleted it erased it after not even like one night was just it wasn't it's almost like a even a worse sort of blog then you know going on and going off about different things than just Facebook I mean they're they're going off about things about their lives have nothing to do about your neighborhood and neighborhood watch it's almost like it was supposed to be like a lease what we thought what people were saying to sign up for like an electronic sort of neighborhood watch right there kind of type then he doesn't want to take you know wedgie right there out if it ever watch but it ended up being it just looks like people just complaining about things and what do I do about this we're going to get a bed and get I'm like why are you clogging up these arrays go do that on your Facebook page what in catchment area do does it represent can you limit it to just a couple of square blocks or I don't know about that because I didn't actually thought of her but I think you can I think you does your area so you know it's in your neighborhood and it's all your neighbors and you know your names are on it so you know who all the names are your neighbors are you have to sign up like that but yeah Chris was like I can't I can't take that So are you on this thing are you on the neighborhood watch do you find it beneficial do you think it's a technology that we are properly deploying or is it just become something else deteriorates into sort of a place where people complain or you know you asked is that stuff that has nothing to do with like the security of your neighborhood I can see one asp. Back to that being good in the sense that if it were a community like meeting Center Support Center where people supported each other and talked about was going to the neighborhood but we're going to get a mattress does that sound like one of those right exactly exactly like I'm looking for a new bed any suggestions I don't know ask people ask your friends 180-222-5222 are you using next door neighborhood apps these sorts of programs or have they gone you know sort of sideways in some fashion your neighborhood and therefore you're just not going to not going to bother with them we're going to speak to at the top there legal policy analyst at the Manhattan Institute Rafael Mungo a guy we talked to I guess about a week ago now for me doing to yeah just yeah yeah and he mentioned in passing something about for profit prisons and we sort of presidential and yeah yeah we're like what what is that he goes on oh that's a big gigantic topic for another time we said you we will get that exactly that's exactly stat as I remember them and then we have actor author Vietnam veteran Jim Beaver at 2 o'clock to talk about his book Life's that way to talk about. Grief amongst other things and you know get it all that 802225222 let us know what you are doing with these neighborhood apps are you using them do they make sense are they useful and if they are let us know but if they've deteriorated as Leanne is suggesting at least and they have in their neighborhood they seem to is there any way to get back control of that liam so you can sort of I don't know Chris to think of the time of day he wasn't just one it was a t i was next door next door Yeah right that's next door neighbor next door or whatever yeah but it just say to it like the all the notifications and all that it was just so much stuff that you had to like swim through to try to figure out what it was that they and it was never you know the important thing right things that maybe useful Brett go ahead. Dr Drew you know what I needed a place. And. Within about 5 minutes I had 6 people giving me some good ideas where I can dump something and I had no idea in my local community that I will say this that next door you just have to tolerate some of the and excuse stuff that goes on but for the most part there's a lot of good things that are mentioned in there that people are looking for either restaurants or churches or whatever and overall I think the next door is a brilliant application yeah and I think maybe I'm you know our neighborhood council or our little community away was like oh you can use this as a tool to like watch your neighborhood in something that so I think all of the other stuff was what Chris wasn't expecting and it clogs up a lot of stuff and cause like Ok I can get to the other you know crime stuff or you know what kind of neighborhood watch stuff other ways and then having to read through all of that kind of stuff Thank you Brett Yeah it ranks right you agree with Bret. Oh Edward Yes. Why you have great. Locally. Yeah yeah I get a lot of he would do that through like Facebook or someplace else he has it there for the Facebook or blogs or Yelp or anything else like that or is it just a just another way of people get referred Yeah I think it's up another way I don't know how it is so different but. That people look or left because you know like that maybe just the expectations of this app are different than they should be I mean Chris thought it was going to be a security thing you need to find a lot of security information but other people find other things there thanks our present Faberge. 802 juju 5222 we're going to get back to your reports on these neighborhood apps what you think they are or are not are you that we've had 2 to testimonials thus far say was a good thing and but nothing to do is secure that you know yeah you got away or maybe that's the problem and you have the expectations have to be adjusted to give the numbers 802225222 that's and treat them Dr Drew it's been a lifetime some 90 k b c. I mean everything is going to be that's ever knew it very well you say. Oh hey there a Hey Hey Dr Drew. I guess I wanted to touch base a little bit. Unclear still about the store up a lot of advertisement on there there is a lot of things that help search for crime in our area but I would just say to. What you like and leave the rest wide those advertisements to the left in the ones that come through maybe. You know regarding crime you know they benefit but the homeless issue you hit it right on the head this is not a housing issue now I've been a real estate broker in the city of l.a. For 42 years the issue is the lack of our elected officials doing with their supposed to do a lot of. Those dropping the ball 100 percent and making. Land use issues on zoning issues on enforcement issues I'd like I've been looking into prop ha ha and then other proposition j j j which went along with the c.e.o. See you ordinance that the city and course it was clean up green up. I want somebody to start looking like I am into who's building these projects ha ha not all of our developers are in the politicians pockets you got it who's connected yes ma'am yes there are and and it's outrageous it was just an outrageous I saw somebody dumping a Stana Taishan to walk in an empty field near where I live what Because yes and I stopped in videotaped it for 6 summerhouse minutes and then I went on to work and then at the end of the day I came back and I went to the council office and I showed them the video I could not get them to respond to anything I then did my own due diligence investigation on the company who was it they. I'll tell you off the air in the cancellation it wasn't City sanitation it was somebody it was a 3rd party or a private company party it was it was a residential lot it was a contractor who's got contracts with the federal government one honey of l.a. And the City of l.a. . After I researched it I realized I couldn't get anything done because they were a union company and they were controlled you know the political friends friends of the mayor their friends and the governor Yeah it is outrageous that is there's actually a simple fix how but they pay people to dump in dumps or at least they make it free to dump and tops as opposed to charging them to bring things to the dumps that's all they have to do to change all that if you don't care about that they just going to go do it because they know they've got cover they've got cover because of the people who they're working with and government officials It took me over to life defiantly. Goes through the ability of people I know to get to the people of the county and I was very grateful that they finally went out there but once they went out there this happened on February 7th they couldn't get out there I couldn't get somebody else to the mid April and they investigated the company and talked to the company and the company said that what they don't there was some type of sludge from a job that they had I mean places just you know if that's what they're telling you to write and this was after to what I have months of these heavy rains and whatnot Oh yeah let's just wait on it so they just said oh we went in talked to them nothing happened right I'm sure they didn't even find him don't do it again got taken out Langley make you Mary thank you thank you ma'am sing story and thank you for the fire let us help you keep it what I think we all have to have the video to show the city council meetings we have to start showing up on our weather torches and pitchforks much many calls ahead about next door in the neighborhood aps I will get you guys just a 2nd to take a break 1st 802-2252 jujube Austin Fletcher ek Flaccus going to talk to us about his documentary which we call document or Ali can I just walk down the street to Skid Row and talk to some people on skid row and very eye opening at the end we know of Dr Drew it's been there live 70 k.v. To Star Wars land. Right a Saturday night on b b c. It is merely a feature. To talk about that next door and go ahead you know exactly what I mean and I are not actually experience with that store we we belong to both and are like the neighborhood in our Palm Springs neighborhood and I got a call a couple months ago from my neighbor who lives right next door in Palm Springs told that he also not. Let me go this voyage. Oh yes. I really got confused for a sec I don't mind body let that be in l.a. Ok got it yeah Ok so my neighbor will also use it as a weekend house he's from Pasadena he says to me are you home in Palm Springs I said no he says because someone's trying to break into my house now he sort of on his way to. Or about he saw the guy the guy actually reaches and rips the doorbell off the wall I also have cameras in between our houses so I immediately go to my cameras and I see the same guy now climb the wall on on from his yard into my yard and one of the side effects so but it's there's been of the lay of about 10 or 15 minutes I know it has been inside my house because I have an alarm and I have timers inside my house as well but what I did was I called the Palm Springs Police Department and I was able to basically take the photo that he gave me off of his rig and and give it to the Palm Springs Police Department via e-mail or text I forget and what we also did was then we put it on next door mediately So at 8 o'clock at night we put into our whole community on that store base a lookout for this guy. And if you could see what he was wearing and his and his approximate I wait and he was already gone from our houses but I looked notify the p.d. They had sent a unit over to patrol the neighborhood and sure enough about 1520 minutes later on the other side of our neighborhood. Maybe a mile away but within the gated community that we live in somebody saw this guy walking in the street with a bucket or something and fitting the description of the photo that we had put our next door and they called the police and the responding unit was already close so they were arrested in the bucket he had some things that he had stolen are a few garages that were not lost and stuff but it was a way for us to kind of get a picture of this person out really quickly to our whole community I understand that downside of social media but when I don't see it anymore I'm glad you tell the story because this is what we were hoping we'd write down and that's what yes exactly that's it Chris went into it thinking that's what it was going to be exuded no anything ever all the neighbors are like oh he's gone and so we can all do that watch out for the driven home and I'm getting from this whole conversation is we need to be better at using the app really it's probably through to do. It what you can have on all of these apps and you. The same type of social media activity that I'm fortunate comes with social media people you're now going to remember those are you know disagreeing with each other and Chris is like God I kind of went like this I don't go on about all one of the criticisms of the App Store that if you foment sphere that makes a fear based society we're all watching each other you know through through our work out I read an article with that was we're pleased with incorrect assumptions on climate and crime statistics and there was a professor quoted in the article that you know clearly had an agenda and was skewing his conclusions to fit his agenda I don't I don't see how these apps take any different turn than any other social media but I think they're just a place where people can facilitate communications among each other but this particular one it's a geographic area like a neighborhood but there are other apps that that that put people in groups that have like hobbies or whatever and I don't think these apps purposely are fomenting fear they're simply holding a spotlight and by the way I felt like pride has gone down any longer you know right not only with the nature of this town with what's going on thanks very boggy thank you very much from thank I backed Sam always going to this really guy who's a former f.b.i. Agent to jog. Through it and you know you have to make some formation is just it's a clearer the apps are really a clearinghouse and there are there are some pros on their own get on there and this pontificate and. You know about things like because you have before Alina there are those me. Wrote. Deletion and taking your calls 80225222 page John to move with the legal term and you can get it right. It is video that we have been done through numbers 802 g. To 5 g. If you do. Your effort a legal policy analyst at the madness you Rafael month will be to discuss with us the socioeconomics of incarceration and prisons you made a passing comment to us about. The fact that the the kids were off at present as are very very unusual very rare are not affected policy much at all right and then he was talking about how if if I kid is young but there a parent goes away and is incarcerated that they actually do better when the parents incarcerated because they're away from that influence I guess I guess there are numbers on that right over there are numbers one again it's an association no right exactly the fact is nearly or if the page if the problematic parent is incarcerated the children do better the question is is that because they're separated from problematic person or they don't want to end up like the parents see the consequences learn from it themselves as well as the. Parents should know though these days and to know from which our number is 802225222 as I said we also are going to talk to Austin Fletcher i.e. Flocka talk sees a guy named Flecker he's on patriarch as picture on Slash flecked as if l e c c a s He is currently in El Paso he as we as he promised in his little Facebook video that he's going to leave us there Jules would you deny any put all Dr up or just walk around almost a camera it's actually downtown play a role but he had interviewed people that were homeless and I thought that was very interesting we are going to specific questions well you know he's like why are so many people coming from here and some one guy was like they're coming from all over because of all the free things that are offered but there's not enough free stuff to go around for everybody who's coming down right so they think it's better than what it is. Drugs yeah well yeah well they did yes one of said that well yes exactly do drugs and do whatever you know but yeah I mean the video was like people you know the latest thing that they've been talking about is that our fire hydrants have been ruined a lot of these places their encampment they've put on makeshift like faucets they're there yeah so crazy this one home of it's like kind of taking a bath in a fire hydrant that had been you know shooting out water sideways in his video and it's like oh my God I mean in the middle of a trash pile is just it's eye opening and didn't he start with all of that says aids or at least h. I.v. Positive as that was not the woman in the story I think she was writing her nose because she was getting ready to go through the 12 step program I think she was going to. Sound like she was do you write stuff down before you go to you can I trust funds that program ever again that's what she said she was doing this year but holding a note you know she say that she talked about people doing business with her is that what maybe I'm just going to watch out again before he comes Yeah and I thought she was saying that I tell people I have each i've even though there's no one I was like maybe I you know because I was watching yesterday during the show maybe I had it on and off sounding like the I don't lie so yeah women. Not treated well downtown as you might imagine and there's a lot of gang related you know turf area things where they come and they make you pay them for basically rent on a sidewalk member the one couple Yes yes paid like $800.00 a month for their tent to be left alone because they're basically on a sidewalk that the gangs run you know and I just thought to myself you know you can now get a roommate and they get apartment for her dogs in the. Garage conversion in those play had I now scary and then you don't have to live under that you know but that's what the player people are shews ing to some extent right they're choosing to do it and they say a lot of crime too is homeless on homeless too so I mean it kind of perpetuates like the hierarchy right if you're stronger. Or you know have more of a do.
