going through something horrible. those are just a few of the stories we're following. i'm natasha curry. dense of rallies are planned today across the country protesting arizona's controversial immigration law. this is video of a huge rally coming from dallas. you can see the crowd is pretty big. a pretty similar story in los angeles. protests happening in washington, d.c. and new york. arizona's law gives police the authority to demand proof that someone in the country is legally, meaning that illegal immigrants will have to carry their documentation, some worry this could lead to profiling, but arizona's governor says the law is necessary, because the federal government has failed to secure the border. >> the people of arizona are totally frustrated. this is our state, it is our nest, we all to be protected and it is the government -- federal government's responsibility and they're not doing it. we are the gateway, we are the gateway for crime into the united states. we have 1,000 illegal immigrants coming across our border per day. and out of that thousand, many of who are apprehended are known criminals. >> it has to do with putting the officer in an impossibility situation. we get sued if we enforce the law, we get sued if we don't enforce the law. second of all, as i said, it's a totally unnecessary law, but the reason i think it's racist is because of what they have done to 2 million hispanics who are here legally, second, third generation arizonians, how do you think that bill made them feel, figuring, okay, now when i left the house i'm going to have to take my papers and i'm going to have a target on my back. >> governor brewer signed a bill yesterday that made several changes to the new law which she says should lay to rest concerns about racial profiling. people who want tighter immigrant controls say the shooting of an arizona deputy underscores that i case. they say it's evidence that the mexican drug wars are spilling onto u.s. soil. police helicopters and ground sources are searching for a group of suspected pot smugglers who opened fire on the deputy. the officer was hit just above the kidney, but the wouldn't wasn't serious and he's out of the hospital. the deputy was found after a frantic search yesterday. police say at least one helicopter was fired on during the search. president obama will get a firsthand look at the massive oil spill in the gulf of mexico tomorrow. the white house says he will be traveling with a very small group so his visit won't disrupt the oil spill recovery effort. he might not be greeted by a very pretty sight. some oil has already -- let's see what the latest forecast is to get an idea of where that oil might be headed. boonie? vehicle has not been released. so far police say they are not ready to file any charges, but they say the investigation is ongoing. people along the gulf coast are bracing right now for impact. some of that massive oil slick is all right starting to hit wildlife habitats and expected to get even heavier. this is rough news for the region's fishing industry, which is a key moneymaker in the gulf.
