staffers at the federal watchdog agency were surfing porn while the nation's financial system was collapsing. the s.e.c. inspector general says during the past five years, 33 s.e.c. employees or contractors violated rules and policies by viewing sexually explicit or suggestive images on government computers during working hours. a summary memo had details of specific investigations. for example, one senior attorney at s.e.c. headquarters admitted downloading porn up to eight hours a day. the report says he downloaded so much porn on his computer, his government computer, that he filled up the hard drive and burned it to cds or dvds that he kept in his office. he reportedly agreed to resign. now another staffer, an accountant, was blocked from visiting porn sites more than 16,000 times in one month. and it didn't stop him. he used google images to bypass the s.e.c.'s internal filter and had a collection of, quote, very graphic material on his hard drive. he was suspended for 14 days. now democrats are pushing for more financial regulation and more authority for the s.e.c. the top republican on the house oversight and government reform committee, daryl issa, says the report shows the s.e.c.'s 3,500-person staff does not need new powers. they need to focus on their current responsibilities. passengers on board a delta flight jumped into action and subdued a disruptive passenger. the man is in custody right now. but the plane was flying from los angeles to tampa when the passenger got out of control apparently. according to local reports, the man made threats, damaged a bathroom and tried to enter the flight deck when seven passengers restrained him. the plane was diverted to albuquerque. the suspect was turned over to the fbi after landing. and the fbi says it does not believe that it was related to domestic terrorism. it's not known, however, whether drugs or alcohol were involved in that. president obama says arizona's controversial new immigration bill is, quote, misguided and would violate people's civil rights. protesters took to the streets in arizona yesterday to demand the republican governor veto the measure. there they are. this would require immigrants to carry their alien registration documents at all times. and police would have to question anyone they suspect of being in the country illegally. there are also penalties for anyone who knowingly hires or transports people in the u.s. now critics say it would cause racial profiling. supporters say the federal government does not enforce immigration laws. and it's a way to fill that void. governor jan brewer has until saturday to either sign or veto that bill. and we'll be watching that closely for you, obviously. well, the coast guard has not given up looking for survivors of tuesday night's oil rig explosion. but officials admit there's little chance at this point of finding the 11 crew members that are missing. families say they've been told to expect the worst. now the rig sank yesterday. there's a new fear of a major crude oil spill now. crews report a 1 by five-mile sheen of crude oil mix. damage could be major if it reaches shore. here's some perspective from the coast guard. if you remember the 1989 "exxon valdez" spill off alaska, worst case scenario, this one would have to continue for more than a month to equal that disaster. a new developments in the death of a reality show producer's wife who was found dead at a mexican resort. one of her friends allegedly sold key e-mails to a gossip website. monica beresford-redman's body was found earlier this month at a mexican resort. her husband was briefly held as a suspect. radar online bought the e-mails and published some of those exchanges that said they were between bruce and his reported mistress. this one, i believe, from bruce says, clearly i am a piece of blank. what i did to monica was lousy and as you know it required me to lie to her for months. another one says she denied me access to my children and continues to do so. she shut me out of my home, has liquidated all of my money. those are the e-mails from him. jane velez-mitchell spoke to an editoriom radar online last night on "issue." >> the e-mails show he was very conflicted about his relationship with the mistress and with his wife. they show motive. they show he was really angry. they show his character. and i would say they really show that he's pretty calculating. he's capable of pretty much anything. >> now radar online would only say a very close friend of monica's sold the e-mails. a spokesperson for monica's family said they don't know who that is but added they hope that money will go to the family to help pay for her funeral there. now we want to get back to one of the stories on the plane disruption we've been talking about today. passengers on board a delta flight jumped into action. they subdued a disruptive passenger. that man is in custody right now. but on the phone with us is our affiliate krqe assignment editor john cleveland in albuquerque, new mexico, with more on this story. john, thanks for being with us. what do you know? >> this morning about 1:30, a delta flight en route from los angeles to tampa, florida, was diverted to the albuquerque international sunport with reports of a disruptive passenger. 46-year-old man from florida apparently had become disruptive making threats during the flight. apparently damaged one of the bathrooms and then attempted to open a cabin door, not the flight deck door as we were originally told. at that point in time he was restrained by approximately seven passengers on the flight. and i have been told he was tied up. they got to albuquerque, he was taken off the plane where he was treated by the albuquerque fire department for minor injuries received during the scuffle. he was transferred into custody of the federal bureau of investigation. he is in federal court this morning, 9:30, about a half hour ago new mexico time. >> any idea as to a motive or reason why he was so disruptive? >> no. right now they don't believe any drugs or alcohol were involved. and they don't believe that this was an incident of domestic terrorism. really unsure why this gentleman did what he did there. so it was fortunate that the passengers were quick to react. >> you mentioned he had minor injuries. was anyone else hurt? seven people took him down. are they talking at all? >> no, the passengers of that airplane were placed back on to the airplane after about three hours after the plane was checked by authorities. this all happened, like i say, between 1:30 and 4:30 this morning. nobody was able to talk to any passengers on that airplane. and that's the only information on injuries that we've received from the airport authorities. >> all right. john, thank you so much, john with us. assignment editor with us from our albuquerque affiliate. thank you so much for the update. misty croslin's grandmother has another theory about what happened to missing florida girl haleigh cummings. croslin was the last person to see the 5-year-old the night she vanished from her father's home. this was more than a year ago. in recent days, croslin's granforth, flora hollars has pointed the finger at other relatives. she tipped off police to search the st. john's river. investigators did not find haleigh's body. on hln's "nancy grace" last night, hollars made another startling accusation, but it's being disputed by other relatives who say hollars really isn't that close to the family. >> now i understand that you believe there's a scenario in which little haleigh was molested before she was murdered. >> i feel like that. >> why? >> i just don't know, but that's what i think. >> isn't it true that there has been a scenario put out there and it had to come from behind bars that misty croslin heard the child in the next room screaming? >> yes. >> where did that come from? >> so did little junior hear the couch bouncing. >> and my question is where did that story come from? >> that came from misty. >> a lie about her own flesh and blood. >> miss hollars has not been around our family for the last seven years that i've been with the croslins. i met flora hollars maybe two times. she is not involved in our family. so i don't know why she would want to hurt and implicate three of her granchildren. it's just very sad that she would do that. >> misty croslin and haleigh's father ron cummings are in jail on unrelated drug charges. investigators call the girl's disappearance a homicide investigation now. former vp contender sarah palin goes from political drama to legal drama. she took the stand testifying against the man charged with hacking into her e-mail account. we're talking about this with richelle carey. what's so interesting about this and has so many intrigued is the fact it's about hacking. and at the end of the derek that's pretty universal because anyone could be a victim. >> i think a lot of people take this personally. your absolutely right. they feel it could be them. other people bring into the fact that he hacked a government official. there's a lot of different layers here. some say it's just a prank, get over it. let's check out what you are saying on my facebook page. don said, he needs to go to jail. regardless of how easy it was to hack her e-mail or what you think of mrs. palin it was politically motivated identity theft. tesha wrote this. i think it was just a thoughtless prank, but i uls think that he has picked the wrong person to hack. you should know better than to hack a governor. but i don't honestly think that he deserves prison time for it. let's talk about it. misty is calling us from oregon. you have been a victim of identity theft, yes? >> caller: yes, i have. >> it is not a pretty thing to go through, is it? >> caller: no in fact, i'm still dealing with it. it happened four years ago. i had a hysterectomy. i get bills for babies i don't have, cell phone bills, my credit card bills. went to a college i've never been to. i still deal with it every day. i feel this man needs to be punished. they are saying it's just pictures, but now he has the ability to get any information of hers. >> so you are saying that even though it seemed it may have just been about embarrassing her, the damage still could have been so much worse. >> correct, yeah. >> okay, misty, thank you very much for the phone call. dorothy is calling from indiana. what do you think about this? >> caller: i think it was a harmless one-time prank. i don't think he meant any harm. he didn't go on to write a book about it or profit from it. >> but let me stop you real quick. didn't mean any harm. what did he mean to do? >> caller: i think it was just a childish prank since he didn't -- there's no harm, no foul. child molesters get less than 50 years. give him a slap on the wrist. give him 30, 90 days in jail like they do first-time drunk drivers. it's -- 50 years is too severe. i don't think he meant -- i don't think it was, no harm, no foul. there was no malicious intent. >> okay. let me ask you this, though. if somebody went into your e-mail right now and put some of your e-mails on the internet for the world to see, would you be a little bugged by it? >> caller: i don't put anything on the internet that i wouldn't be ashamed that my grandma would see. >> there's nothing personal in any of your e-mails you send to anybody? >> caller: nope, nothing. i think if it's out there for anybody to grab then you are fair play, fair game. >> all right, dorothy. good rules to live by. i wish we all could do it. good advice there. let me read some facebook comments. jennifer says, no he shouldn't face serious charges. prison is for serious criminals. this is why we have problems with prison overcrowding. okay. think about this. she said we need hackers on our side. make him work for free or do a directed study for 500 hours. maybe we can benefit from his intelligence. clearly he is a smart kid. nicky says this. anybody hacking into the computer should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. i don't want someone finding out my passwords and get be personal info about me. quit hiding behind college prank theories and plead guilty. if you did it then admit it. christina says, oh, my gosh, i honestly think 50 years is an incredible amount to serve for a crime so small. look at all the murderers and rapists who get a slap on the wrist and sent home. i think he should get a year and no more. i think most legal analysts would say the likelihood of 50 years is probably out there but that's what the law allows. we want to know if convicted of breaking into sarah palin's e-mail, should this hacker face serious time in prison or as his attorney said, was it just a prank? "in session's" jean casarez of trutv has been scouring over at least some of the 300 documents that were just released. so what stands out to you thus far, jean? >> it's a lot of papers. but i want to tell you, christi. first, let me set the stage. this is getting complicated. there is a sworn statement by cecilia benayida. she is the sister to crystal, better known as river cruz. who are these two women? they are sisters. it's crystal that had come out some time earlier and in a sworn deposition earlier saying that she had known george anthony. that they were very friendly. she stopped short of saying there was a personal, romantic relationship, but she knew him well. well, now we hear from cecilia in her sworn statement, and she says that she definitely believes there was a romantic relationship. it appears as though for quite awhile, between her sister crystal and george anthony. the detective shows her some photographs that she says that she took so there you have credibility in those photos of her sister and george together. however, it was a public balloon event in remembrance of caylee. and so anybody could be at that event. she also is shown a text by the detective. and she says, yes, that is the text from george anthony. and it says from december '08. just thinking about you. i need you in my life. so there is confirmation at least of a relationship, december '08 through august of '09 because that's when the balloon pictures were taken. she said her sister gave up to $5,000 to george anthony. why is this important? i'll tell you why. it's because crystal says in her deposition that george at one point was crying and said it was just an accident, an accident that snowbald out of control. so with a relationship like this, with texts like this it can give credibility to george anthony saying something, confiding in someone that he might not otherwise. also, cecilia says she cleaned cells. she was ironically an inmate when casey was there. it's getting complicated, right? she cleaned cells. she actually cleaned casey anthony's cell and helped distribute some letters that casey had written to others. forensically, they are on to hairs in this document. they are looking at hairs. they got hairs from five different crime scene analysts at the scene where the remains were found to test their hair in relation to what they say to match the description or not match the description of a head hair found. we know one head hair was found in the trunk showing signs of decomposition. we already knew some hairs were found attached to duct tape of the remains at the scene. so it looks like they are further analyzing these hairs. if you can match the hair in the trurchg with the hair at the scene, both showing the same signs of decomposition, that's important for the prosecution to show that the control that casey had, total custody and control of, in fact, had the hair from her daughter. >> obviously, had that connection. let me ask you. i know there's a hearing next week. judge stan strickland recused himself from the anthony trial last week as well. coming up, we have this new hearing with this new judge. what do we expect to see? >> i think we're going to see a lot of procedural matters, getting to know each prpth the judge showing and telling what he expects out of the attorneys. the litigants. but he did send out from the court yesterday some information of what would be discussed. one was being dates. well, can the judge change the dates, the dates that already are in place for motions and depositions and even trial? he could. but there's some constitutional issues here. it's called the right to a fair trial. it's called due process. and if the defense would not be ready to go forward earlier than what is set. the trial is set for may 2011. how can the judge change dates because that would be a constitutional reversible issue on appeal. they have a right to have a fair trial. and with a trial of this magnitude to have the time to get all of their motions, depositions, evidence in order. >> all righty. boy, i'm glad you are here to walk us through it. it is getting more convoluted as we go through. jean casarez, thank you. well, the coast guard has not given up looking for survivors of tuesday night's oil rig explosion. they say there's little chance at this point of finding the missing 11 crew members. families have been told to expect the worst. the rig sank yesterday and there's a new fear regarding a major crude oil spill. crews report a one by five-mile crude oil sheen. damage could be particularly major if it reaches shore. here's some perspective from the coast guard, though. if you remember the 1989 "exxon valdez" spill off alaska, wofrts case scenario, this one would have to continue for more than a month to equal that disaster. some airline passengers jumped into action and subdued a disruptive man on a delta flight today. delta airlines confirms the incident happened on a flight headed to tampa from los angeles. but affiliate krqe is reporting the suspect allegedly made threats, damaged a bathroom, tried to enter a cabin door and that's when seven passengers restrained him. now the flight was diverted to albuquerque and the man was turned over to authorities. we don't know of a motive yet, but the fbi does not believe the incident involved terrorism, alcohol or drugs. the suspect is charged with destruction of aircraft facilities and interruption of flight crew members. some high-level facilities with the securities and exchange commission are accused of surfing for massive amounts of porn while the economy tanked. an s.e.c. investigation found one attorney downloaded porn for up to eight hours a day, filling his hard drive and then burning it to dvds. one accountant was blocked more than 16,000 times in a month from visiting sex sites. the s.e.c. declined to comment on that report. many people would say teenagers who drop out of high school are going nowhere fast. a new law in south carolina would practically ensure that. the push to tie driver's licenses to school attendance. visineĀ®-a iclinically pro ng e sy moop visineĀ®-a. i'm ed whitacre, from general motors. a lot of americans didn't agree with giving gm a second chance. quite frankly, i can respect that. we want to make this a company all americans can be proud of again. that's why i'm here to announce we have repaid our government loan, in full, with interest, five years ahead of the original schedule. but there's still more to do. our goal is to exceed every expectation you've set for us. we're putting people back to work, designing, building, and selling the best cars and trucks in the world. with our 100,000-mile, 5-year powertrain warranty to guarantee the quality. and the unmatched life-saving technology of onstar to help keep you safe. from new energy solutions. to the designs of tomorrow. we invite you to take a look at the new gm. sarah palin has finished her testimony against the young man accused of hacking into her yahoo! e-mail account during the presidential election. she also said she first learned about it from a news report while she was campaigning in michigan. >> that's certainly not up to me. it's up to the judge and, of course, in the hands of the jury stands the opportunity for justice. so that's not up to me. >> when i saw you, you had a smile. you kept the smile throughout. but when i saw pictures of you looking at your children, there was a little sad innocence terms of what had happened. >> yeah. well, there are a couple of pictures in there that were not for public con sumption. particularly pictures of trig. people have taken the opportunities to have those pictures throughout to distort and photo shop. that's been hurtful. but kids are -- >> it is hurtful, though. that's the point i'm getting at. can you tell me where you snrp you said you and your husband were in michigan at the time. >> yes. >> can you explain, as you described it, i got a picture. you said you were 30,000 feet in the air half the time. that you are bouncing around from different speaking engagements so that that red phone that you had was your only contact with your caretakers. so because you lost that, can you explain to me more about how big a deal that was? >> it was a big deal because as you are pointing out, access and communication is so extremely important when you are thousands of miles away from your children. you aren't there to protect them. they are receiving threatening calls and messages. and a mama wants to be there to help the kid. at least be able to communicate with them. it was a big deal to have that communication stripped away. >> talk about the huge disruption when you first found out. what was your initial reaction? >> to the distress and disruption within the campaign was on my part an effort was needed to convince the campaign managers that, no, there weren't these horrible e-mails that the media was talking about that would end up derailing the mccain campaign. that's what was going on in the blogosphere. the promise was in there that people were going to have these e-mails finally disclosed to the public to show the real sarah palin spoep the convincing had to take place of campaign managers that, no, just chill. there's nothing in there that's horrible or that would derail the campaign. there was a lot of effort -- >> you had a newborn at home. it wasn't just that you had your children at home. but one of your children you had a newborn and this was your only way to contact the caretakers, your daughter. i mean -- >> well, trig was 16 weeks old. and bristol, of course, in case you missed it, on the front page of the national enquirer at the time, bristol was pregnant and quite worried about her. so the threats that came our way were not pleasant for a mom to have to deal with. >> what would you like to say to him if you had a chance to talk to mr. kernell. >> we'll let the jury talk to mr. kernell with what their assessment is of the damage that is done when you illegally hack into somebody's personal, private mailbox and disclose the contents to the world. that's not right. it's not legal. it's not fair or decent. so i think he may be receiving that message. >> sarah palin there after her testimony in a tennessee courtroom today. she was also asked if this was just a prank. and you can see right there, she does not think so. she went on to say and i'm paraphrasing, that this was during a presidential election. during a presidential campaign and an incident like this is not a prank. now if convicted on identity theft, wire fraud and other charges, 22-year-old david kernell faces up to 50 years in prison. kernell's attorney has sold jurors it was nothing more than an overblown prank and his client has no criminal intent. sarah palin sees that very differently. if convicted of breaking into sarah palin's e-mail, should the hacker face serious time behind bars or, as his attorneys say, was this simply a prank? taking the witness stand against a 22-year-old accused of hacking into her yahoo e-mail account in the middle of the 2008 presidential campaign. after her testimony palin said it is up to the judge to decide if a conviction should lead to any prison time. the intrusion is much more than a college prank. >> i don't think an illegal action like this is a prank, not when you consider how impacting it was on a presidential election, it wouldn't be on a prank. if convicted identity theft, wire fraud and charges, cornen e face 50 years in prison. let's get more on palin's testimony. we are joined by beth karas of our sister network "in session." >> she spoke for 45 minutes and she was cross examined also and she smiled throughout a lot of her examination and she talked about the disruption in her life. she was in michigan campaigning in september 2008 when she learned her e-mail account had been compromised and it was a personal one. she saw photographs of her family, her children on television and that's when she learned it and that's when the threatening messages and e-mails started after the compromising of her e-mail account. threats as well as sexual things came her way and threats to her daughter because bristol who testified yesterday had her cell phone number posted on a screen grab online somewhere. so she started getting a lot of strange phone calls and she eventually turned her phone over within a week to the secret service so palin did say it was a big disruption to her personal life and to the campaign. >> did kernell try to cover his tracks? was he excited that he cracked this thing and he got into the e-mail account? >> he was excited and felt that he failed. he called his roommate in when he was about to do it and to take a look at it. he did not think kernell would succeed and this was september 16, 2008, it was easier than kernell had thought it would be. he guessed the answer to the security question where she met her husband and there was sparring about that with the defense lawyer saying that wasn't such a big secret. she said it wasn't a secret to me where i met him, but i didn't think the whole world knew it. in any event, kernell said he failed because he didn't find anything incriminating and the government's position was that he hoped to derail the presidential election by finding that she was doing political business on a personal e-mail thereby avoiding the government disclosure laws because it would have been public knowledge had she been doing something political on there, but there wasn't anything. he posted things on his facebook, but he did delete things anticipating a federal probe, he was deleting things, but he also left a confession on his facebook page. >> all right. and that is all coming out in court as is sarah palin's testimony, the early testimony of bristol palin. thank you, beth karas. we'll see how the jury reacts. we're awaiting word from the governor of arizona, action on the controversial new immigration bill. republican jan brewer has until saturday to veto or let it become law. protesters took to the streets in phoenix yesterday demanding she veto it. this bill would require aliens to carry their alien registration documents with them at all times. police would have to question anyone they suspect of being here illegally. there are also penalties for anyone who knowingly hires or transports people in the u.s. illegally. critics say it would cause racial profiling. supporters say the federal government does not enforce immigration laws and it's the best way to fill that void. president obama says arizona's new immigration bill is misguided. it threatens to undermine basic notions of fairness that we cherish as americans as well as the trust between police and their communities. he made the comment today at a naturalization ceremony for 24 members of the military. new developments in the reality show that producer's wife who was found dead in a >> i found this a few minutes ago, and i think it could be significant. let's give everyone background about when the remains were found of caylee. they were found in a canvas laundry bag and double bagged with black plastic bags. we know black plastic bags were collected from the home. we don't know if they match at all. we do know a cloth laundry bag was found in the home and the same brand name that the remains were found in. this memo is asking for fingerprint testing of a black plastic bag found in the home that had red handles and it says, quote, investigative efforts have revealed that this item held a canvas laundry bag similar to that found with caylee's remains. so, chuck, what i'm seeing through my analysis here is that in the home it appears they found a canvas laundry bag and a black plastic bag around it and that mihmics, what you said, chuck, what was found at scene. significance?
