of dealerships that are scheduled to be closed. the car company says it's in the process of recalling 661 dealers targeted to be closed in october to offer, then, their franchises back. last year, gm worked through bankruptcy, you may remember. as part of the process, the company notified 2,000 dealers that they would lose their franchise in october of this year. about 1100 of those filed for arbitration in an attempt to regain their licenses. we're learning more about the man who allegedly shot two police officers at the pentagon. the sheriff in california tell cnn john patrick bedell had a history of mental illness. the sheriff said his family tried for years to get help for bedell and he had been committed to mental institutions three times. according to records from the 2006 arrest, he suffered from bipolar disorder. bedell seemed to be obsessed with on-line anti-government conspiracy theorys. >> it's a mistake to try to shoe horn him in to one ideology or fit in a narrative, a partisan narrative. it's clear that this is a disturbed individual who drew a lot of hate and paranoia drawn off of the internet. it's a cheap recruiting tool, especially when the folks drinking it are unstable to begin with. >> bedell died from wounds he received with a shootout. his family said this, we may never know why he made this decision. one thing is clear, though, his actions were caused by an illness, and not a defective character. a wisconsin zoo shut down yesterday when a bear bit at least two fingers off of a hand. the woman walked right past barriers and parking signs and was trying to feed the bear. the bear bit off her thumb and forefinger and partially severed her middle and ring fingers. her boyfriend was bitten as he tried to pry the bear off of the woman. alcohol was a factor in this accident. the charter bus headed to los angeles from mexico when it clipped a pickup truck when it went on 2010. six people were tossed when the bus rolled to the roof. >> i saw it rolling and over the bus and it end up sitting up again. >> 9 of the 16 people hurt are in critical condition. federal officials say the bus was operating illegally and the california-based bus company had been told not to carry passengers across state lines. they are now looking in to whether the driver was tired and driving recklessly. he's one of the injured. about $10 trillion would be added to the country's debt if president obama's 2011 budget is put in to effect. it estimates by 2020, debt held by the public would reach more than $20 trillion. it cites two big contributor to the jump in debt. one is the president's proposal to extend the 2001 and 2003 tax cut us for the majority of americans. the other is the proposal to protect middle and upper middle income families to pay the alternative minimum tax. the car impacted with explosives blew up and hit three people in iraq. it's the latest in a strike of attacks leading up to tomorrow's elections. the blast wept off near the holy city of najaf. more than 50 people were hurt. they threaten to use violence to threaten tomorrow's elections. a dozen people have been killed in attacks this week. this is what the latest aftershock did in an earthquake-hit area in chile. two magnitude six aftershocks hit there yesterday. no injuries reported though. meanwhile, bin-kyi-moon promised up to $10 million in help. a u.s. disaster response team is expected to arrive today. the u.s. already sent satellite phones and water treatment units and more aid is scheduled to arrive next week. some parents in colorado are supporting a lesbian couple who was told their child can't enroll in a catholic preschool next year. the women's relationship violates the school's beliefs and policy. but the parents argue that the policy is unfair and have threatened to pull their children out of the preschool. >> whoever discriminates against them, this's not the reality. the reality is they are a family and nobody can say differently. >> the archdiocese insists the parents who enroll their kids at the school are expected to follow the catholic beliefs. and some legal analysts say it's within their rights to have this policy. there may be a new lead in the kay of a family from the san diego area that went missing last month. the authorities say they were spotted on this surveillance tape casually crossing the mexican border. the video was taken from the roof top of a private business. it appears to look close to show a man and a woman and two children to fit their description. they're having a hard time saying who was in this video bah it was so dark. a ship hijacked off of the coast of madagascar is steered towards somalia. that's what the owner of the norwegian tanker is saying. the ship's captain reported that pirates came aboard yesterday and contact with the captain has been lost since then. the companies tracking the tanker's location right now. it was headed for tanzania and had 21 crew good morning, susan. according to police, the incident occurred friday morning at a popular college bar 30 miles from roethlisberger's lake house. he was celebrating his 28th birthday with three friends mingling with another group that included the reported victim. the alleged incident took place in the bathroom at the college bar. soon after the alleged assault, the woman and her party contacted police. she feels taken to the hospital, treated, and released. both have been interviewed by authorities. roethlisberger is not in custody and has not been charged with a crime. scary moment during the detroit cleveland game last night. the pistons' rodney stuckey walked over to the bench and collapsed into a team trainer's arms. stuckey was shaking like he was having a seizure. me medical personnel attended to the 23-year-old and carried him off of the court on a stretcher. the pistons coaches said he was conscious and his vital signs stable. on a much lighter note, cleveland cavalier fans set a new world record last night for the largest gathering of people wearing snuggies. more than 20,000 turned the arena to a sea of red. the fans were asked to wear the blanket with will be? a backlash against lenient jumps, longer prison times? more lem tronk monitoring? >> harsh justice in this case. this is a death penalty eligible case because it's murder with special circumstances. the murder possibly having occurred during the commission of a rape. so you will definitely, i think there's a good chance you could see a death penalty case here. the other thing i think is, you will see a lot of attention to this circumstance. more commitment to point out registered sex offenders and at the same time, making sure that harsh penalties are implemented. >> the time. the officers found a suspected explosive device attached to his car yesterday. the bomb squad was able to disable it. the police say the device could have killed or injured someone if it did didn't have a long criminal record. what they had to do a plea deal. he ended up getting six years, served five and three years probation. >> the fact he lives yards from an elementary school, is that -- a failure of the system? >> it probably is a failure of the system. they have an obligation to have sex offenders registered online, but the problem is, it's got to be implemented and watched. he was checking in with his probation officer, but obviously there was a lapse here that should have been corrected. it wasn't possible in this case. >> what do you think the end result will be? a backlash against lenient judges, longer prison times? more electronic monitoring? what do you think will happen? >> harsh justice in this case. this is a death penalty eligible case because it's murder with special circumstances. the murder possibly having occurred during the commission of a rape. so you will definitely, i think there's a good chance you could see a death penalty case here. the other thing i think is, you will see a lot of attention to this circumstance. more commitment to point out registered sex offenders and at the same time, making sure that harsh penalties are bar in georgia, about 30 miles from roethlisberger's lake house. police say the two-time super bowl champion was celebrating his 28th birthday with three friends who were mingling with another group that included the reported victim. the alleged incident reportedly took place in a bathroom at the popular college bar. soon after the alleged assault, the woman and her party contacted police. she was taken to the hospital, treated and released. both have been interviewed by authorities. roethlisberger is not in custody. and has not been charged with a crime. scary moment during the detroit-cleveland game last night. rodney stuckey walked over to the bench and suddenly collapsed into a team trainer's arms. tv replay showed stuckey shaking like he was actually having a seizure. medical personnel attended to the 23-year-old and then carried him off the court on a stretcher. a pistons spokesman said he was conscious and his vital signs were stable after being taken to a cleveland hospital. a much lighter note, cleveland cavalier fans set a new world record last night for the largest gathering of people wearing snuggies. more than 20,000 turned the arena into a sea of red. fans were asked to wear the blanketless sleeves for about the last five minutes of the game. everyone did, except for a guy who wore a pistons snuggy. the stunt is a new guinness world record. 14-year-old amber dubois who vanished last february. authorities say last may three children told their parents about finding what looked like human hair in a bag in the park. the girl went missing in the same region as 17-year-old chelsea king. king's disappearance renewed interest in amber's case. a texas man who reportedly shot and killed a 13-year-old girl has been released on bond. richard calderon posted a $50,000 bond during his court appearance in houston yesterday. he is accused of killing alexis wileey while she was in her mother's car on wednesday. her mom was apparently following calderon because he reportedly hit her car and took off. he was later arrested at home and confessed to killing the girl but said it was in self-defense. looks like someone may have targeted the california anti-gang unit for the third time. they found an explosive device attached to the car yesterday. the bomb squad was able to disable it and police say the device could have killed or injured someone if it did what it was supposed to do. the anti-gang unit has been targeted twice in the last two months alone. luckily no one has been injured. officials believe some gangs may be behind those attacks. a 13-year-old paperboy in massachusetts is making the news for rescuing an elderly woman. j.t. carroll was on his paper delivery route yesterday when he heard her begging for help. the 95-year-old woman had stepped outside to get her mail and fell. >> she was sitting something like this. trying to conserve body heat because it was cold on friday. she asked me back if i could try to help her up. but i couldn't. and i was kind of worried so i called 911. >> i was saying, help me, help me, help me. will somebody please help me. and i was so happy when this young boy came over, you and killed six people yesterday was operating illegally. the charter bus was headed to los angeles from central mexico when it clipped a pickup truck on busy interstate 10. six people were thrown from the bus as it flipped over, crushing the roof. >> i saw when it started rolling over and over, that bus, and it end up sitting up again. >> nine of the 16 people hurt are in critical condition. federal officials say the bus was operating illegally, and the california-based bus company had been told not to carry passengers across state lines. they are now looking into whether the driver was tired and driving recklessly. he is one of the injured. about $10 trillion would be added to the country's debt if president obama's 2011 budget is put into effect. that is according to the congressional budget office. now, it estimates by 2020, debt held by the public would reach more than $20 trillion. it cites two big contributors to the jump in debt. now, one is the president's proposal to extend the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts for the majority of americans. the other is the proposal to protect middle and upper middle income families from having to pay the alternative minimum tax. a car packed with explosives blew up and killed at least three people in iraq today. it is the latest in a string of attacks leading up to tomorrow's national elections. the blast went off near a shiite shrine in the holy sti of najaf. 50 people were hurt. tomorrow's vote will sdi who will govern iraq as u.s. troops pull out. across iraq, dozens of people have been killed in attacks this week. hand. authorities say the woman walked right past barriers and warning signs at the lincoln park zoo, and was trying to feed the bear. the bear bit off her thumb and forefinger, and partially severed her middle and ring fingers. her boy friend was also bitten as he tried to pry the bear's mouth off the woman. authorities say alcohol was a factor in this incident. some parents in colorado are supporting a lesbian couple who was told their child can't enroll at a catholic preschool next year. the denver archdiocese says the women's relationships violates the policies. >> whoever discriminates against them, that's not the reality. the reality is they are a family. and nobody can say differently. >> the archdiocese insists that parents who enroll their kids at the school are expected to follow the catholic church's beliefs. and some legal analysts say it is within the rights to have this policy. convicted child molester john gardner is facing murder charges in the death of 17-year-old chelsea king. well, now people are outraged that he was ever allowed out of prison. brian smith appears on our sister network true tv's "in session." >> john gardner served five years. he could have served 30. what happened? why was he out? >> it was a crime against a 13-year-old girl he was accused of molesting and actually pummeling her. the problem here was, you had a witness who didn't want to testify -- excuse me, actually the victim didn't want to testify. and then you had the case of he didn't have a long criminal record. what they had to do is do a plea deal with him. he ended up get six years, served five and then probation. >> the fact that he lived yards from an elementary school. was that a failure of the system? >> they are obligated to have sex offenders registered online. but it's got to be watched. he was checking in with his probation officer. but obviously there was a lapse here that should have been corrected. >> what do you think the end result will be, a backlash against lenient judges, longer prison times, more electronic monitoring? what do you think will happen? >> i think you'll see harsh justice in this case. this is a death penalty eligibility case. the murder possibly having occurring during the commission of a rape. you will definitely, i think there's a good chance you could see the death penalty case here. the other thing i think is, you'll see a lot of attention to this circumstance, more commitment to point out registered sex offenders, and at the same time making sure that harsh penalties are instituted. >> the public involved in the disappearance of dubois. take a look at this mess. at least 15 people were hurt in this massive crash along a busy highway in wisconsin. local media says at least 31 cars were involved in one crash, while another seven crashed about a mile away. weather is usually a factor in this type of crash and that was the case yesterday as well. authorities blame this stuff, fog. foggy apnea can lead to high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke. if someone's experiencing symptoms such as waking up in the morning tired, even after an adequate amount of sleep, wake up with headaches
