I mean, theres some really , really big theres some really, really big stories. I mean, what do you stories. So i mean, what do you want Start Talking about . Want to start off talking about . I mean, well, ive been doing this job for years whats this job for years and whats actually me this actually stuck out for me this year the celebrity year is the celebrity documentaries. Documentaries. There are so many , um, i there are so many, um, i think kicking off with the beckham one, which i think was the most popular watch one on netflix. Um, i loved it. I watched it twice. I watched it the first time. I thought two football orientated for me. Ive football orientated for me. Ive got three boys and you know, my whole house is football, football. Then watched it football. I then watched it again and really, really loved it. I thought they came it. Um, and i thought they came across in a really good light. Did you . Now, i must admit, i obviously covered the story at the , and i interviewed the time, and i interviewed Rebecca Lewis at time as well. Wow. And i was watching it, and i thought initially i thought it was great and i thought it was great and i thought , you know, thought it was great and i thought, you know, and i came across really well. Yeah. Are you talking about that one bit with rebecca . Yeah yes. Yeah, i agree with he was a bit dismissive. Its like, know, all its like, you know, well all this hurt my wife very much and it wasnt all this exactly. It was wasnt it. Was you wasnt it. I agree with you just yeah i, i agree with you just on that. That was the one bit that kind of made me cringe and made me think that wasnt nice. But rest i really loved. But the rest i really loved. Good insight, wasnt it was a good insight, wasnt it . Fascinating it . A fascinating insight, really good insight. I mean, thereve been been the been so many. Theres been the coleen one, which Coleen Rooney one, which obviously the obviously on the back of the whole christie whole Wagatha Christie crazy legal i watched it legal law case. Um i watched it with an open mind because having sort of followed the legal battle, that was fascinating , battle, that was fascinating, wasnt it . Its own right. Its own right. Yeah. Um it was a bizarre legal battle, but i, i like the Coleen Rooney. Um, ive not watched it. I must admit, i did. I did enjoy it. I mean, i watched it, i think kind of when there was nothing else to watch, but i enjoyed it. I love the Robbie Williams one. I havent seen that one either. Okay. Was that the one where he was talking about his love life with his wife and the fact that, was that, yeah, but it was just a throwback to all old music. Throwback to all his old music. His story. You know, his story. I thought it was fascinating and what i liked about it, because ive with ive got this thing with celebrities, you know, theres often know, often a filter and, you know, a lot of fakeness comes with it. But opposite. But he was the opposite. He basically, up basically, you know, opened up about mental health, opens about his mental health, opens up and up about his struggles. And i think you know, when a think it makes, you know, when a celebrity does that, just celebrity does that, it just takes and shows takes the gloss off and shows theyre human beings. Takes the gloss off and shows theyre no,uman beings. Takes the gloss off and shows theyre no, absolutely. S. Takes the gloss off and shows theyre no, absolutely. And yeah. No, absolutely. And weve sad this weve had some sad losses this year havent we. Oh my gosh. Yes. I mean i think the matthew perry, i think the um, his death was really quite shocking. I mean, ive always watched friends and weve been having it on repeat now ever since that news. Um, and now coming to light how he died. Um, she. Sinead oconnor. Um, im she. Sinead oconnor. Um, im just trying to think who else, though. Tina turner. I mean, for me, i was a huge tina turner though. Tina turner. I mean, for me, when a huge tina turner though. Tina turner. I mean, for me, when tinage tina turner though. Tina turner. I mean, for me, when tina passed, turner though. Tina turner. I mean, for me, when tina passed, tuwas fan. When tina passed, i was like, and you know , like, wow. And you know, continues to her music. Um, continues to play her music. Um, and. Yeah, and Shane Macgowan and. Yeah, and Shane Macgowan and i was obviously we lost very recently from the pogues. Yeah. Were thinking that was going but it going to be number one, but it isnt. Absolutely. Yeah. Was yeah. Um, yeah. That was shocking well. Yeah. Um, not shocking as well. Yeah. Um, not so much royal stories this year. Last year when i was on your show, we did a lot on the royals. I think for me, im not a huge royal fan, but you just spoke a second ago, spoke about dogs a second ago, dressing up. I loved camillas dress. Um, at the kings coronation so for me, i think when were talking about the royals, the coronation. Royals, i love the coronation. Just refresh my memory. She had a beautiful white gown on and embroidered were embroidered at the bottom were two of rescue thats two of her rescue dogs. Thats right. Yes. And im not a fashion journalist, but for some reason, i just. That. And reason, i just. I into that. And loved the kings coronation actually, so i did. I must admit, susan, i was absolutely glued to did absolutely glued to her. I did it spite myself. I was it in spite of myself. I was watching for work, obviously, watching it for work, obviously, but i also thought shouldnt watching it for work, obviously, but i. Enjoyingght shouldnt watching it for work, obviously, but i. Enjoying this. Shouldnt watching it for work, obviously, but i. Enjoying this. Shoone|t watching it for work, obviously, but i pomping this. Shoone|t watching it for work, obviously, but ipomp andthis. Shoone|t watching it for work, obviously, but ipomp and ceremony1e|t watching it for work, obviously, but i pomp and ceremony like does pomp and ceremony like we do. Yeah, and even though it was a cut down version. Yeah, i just loved it. I loved seeing everyone wore. Loved seeing what everyone wore. Um, and my standout show of the yearis um, and my standout show of the year is this sort of drum roll, isnt it . Come on. Was im a celebrity because our very own nigel was in there. Yeah, exactly. Um, ive watched it exactly. Um, ive watched it forever. Ive watched it with my kids as as theyve grown up. And every year theyre like , who every year theyre like, who have interviewed on this have you interviewed on this show, mum . And normally im like, celebrity like, you know, as a celebrity interview, i have interviewed a handful of them this year. Josie, interviewed josie, ive interviewed i thought josie came across brilliantly. Came across brilliantly. She came across lovely, shes the lovely, didnt she . Shes the most and sam, most sweetest person. And sam, the i thought the winner i thought was phenomenal. The winner i thought was phenomenal. In fact, he deserved for me. One post on my instagram and dont normally, you know, and i dont normally, you know, comment even phone in or even comment or even phone in or even vote. Actually voted for sam. Vote. I actually voted for sam. Um which is the first time ive ever voted on a show ever. Um, thats a confession. Blimey. Yeah, i actually thought he didnt deserve my vote, but i thought he came across so well , um. Across so well, um. Loved the whole , you i just loved the whole, you know, just his personality , his know, just his personality, his character. I thought for kids that are struggling for, you know, people got adhd. Know, people that have got adhd. Yes. True very important. His struggles life and just being struggles to life and just being a energy because , you a ball of energy because, you know, you get celebrity. Know, often you get celebrity. In there and you know theyre bonng in there and you know theyre boring to watch. But he just gave that boost that i think was really and we have to mention talking of lets talk talking of balls, lets talk glitter other big reality tv the other big reality tv juggernaut, strictly come dancing, week juggernaut, strictly come dancyeah, week juggernaut, strictly come dancyeah, it week juggernaut, strictly come dancyeah, it like week juggernaut, strictly come dancyeah, it like lotek ago. Yeah, it feels like a lot longer already and we had the magnificent dowden. Magnificent amy dowden. Well, i was going to touch upon amy. Um, i, i mean , my upon amy. Um, i, i mean, my fathers a Breast Cancer specialist, whenever any specialist, so whenever any celebrity anyone gets breast celebrity or anyone gets Breast Cancer the news, you cancer and its on the news, you know, its, you know, know, and its, you know, headunes know, and its, you know, headlines and things, my heart goes out to them, obviously, especially because she is so young and beautiful and amazing at what she does. And the way she embraces life and documents whats going on. Yeah. Um, yeah , whats going on. Yeah. Um, yeah, i thought amys brilliant and i dont actually, i have to admit, im probably one of your viewers. I watch strictly viewers. I dont watch strictly that but amy, to me has that much, but amy, to me has just been incredible. Just been incredible. Its very popular, wasnt it . Thank you very much there for joining us that pleasure. Thank you for having me. Thank you for having me. Thank you for having me. Celebrity interview and lifestyle baume. Lifestyle editor suzanne baume. Now okay, we move on to food. Obviously because its christmas. And why wouldnt we, uh, roast potatoes, parsnips, brussels sprouts. Yeah. Brussels brussels sprouts. Yeah. Brussels sprouts again. Cranberry sauce, stuffing, gravy and stuffing, lashings of gravy and of course the main event turkey. We put so much and effort we put so much time and effort into christmas dinner into making christmas dinner dont the biggest dont we. One of the biggest meals year. Literally the meals of the year. Literally the biggest year. But do biggest meal of the year. But do you overboard on you ever go overboard on ingredients up with far you ever go overboard on ingrmuch s up with far you ever go overboard on ingrmuch food up with far you ever go overboard on ingrmuch food . Up with far you ever go overboard on ingrmuch food . Joiningwith far you ever go overboard on ingrmuch food . Joiningwith now too much food . Joining me now is chef barry vera to share with us his top tips on what to do with your leftovers. Uh, your christmas leftovers. Uh, barry, thank you very much for joining us. Happy Christmas Eve, i isnt it . Um well, i think, isnt it . Um well, okay. Now christmas dinner. Okay. There is always way too much food. So what are your top tips for these leftovers . What are we meant to do and what can you eat . Whats left over . Well, i think you can actually you can eat everything really. Really. And i think its just sometimes its been a little bit creative. Go creative. I mean, we all go back to know, having cold cuts to you know, having cold cuts the next mean, the next day. I mean, im a yorkshire man. So it was cold cuts bubble squeak cuts and bubble and squeak and pickles next but pickles the next day. But i think a little bit more creativity and making it a bit more family. You more fun for the family. You know people say know, quite often people say turkey dry. I, know, quite often people say turkey dry. I, i dont think turkey is dry. I, i dont think it needs to be. I think when youre roasting your turkey, getting enough butter under the skin, of maintains that skin, um, kind of maintains that moisture within, also and moisture within, but also and then obviously helps in within a day or two afterwards. So what youre using it for. There youre using it for. But there are a varying things. I mean , are a varying things. I mean, um, restaurant here, we um, at the restaurant here, we do a thing called shooter do a thing called a shooter sandwich, is actually sandwich, which is actually layers. Bread , layers. Its a loaf of bread, and we use beef. Um, but what we do is the caramelised onions and saute mushrooms and then grilled steak , and then we layer it all steak, and then we layer it all up with, um, horseradish and mustard. Could do this with mustard. You could do this with turkey. And then what we do is turkey. And then what we do is we pack it down, press it. It goes back to edwardian times , goes back to edwardian times, and instead maybe little bit and instead maybe a little bit of mustard, but more of a dijon mustard cranberry sauce and mustard and cranberry sauce and press and then you it press it and then you slice it and you fry it in a little and you just fry it in a little bit of butter, and then you have this beautiful, rich sandwich. You the you could do a, a toad in the hole, but using chipolatas and brussels sprouts, red onions and, and obviously turkey as well, dicing up the turkey. Um, my mum always used to make a really wonderful turkey soup. Um which was great. And then that would put pasta and, um , fresh would put pasta and, um, fresh tomatoes and vegetables and i suppose the list goes on. You know, youve got risotto, you know, youve got risotto, you know, where do you stop . But i think its also about utilising everything vegetables everything and the vegetables because we always too many because we always make too many vegetables many vegetables and too many potatoes. So why not make a pie like of a hodgepodge pie like a bit of a hodgepodge pie or like that . So what or Something Like that . So what about there are many ways you can it. Can do it. What about dreaded what about the dreaded brussels get brussels sprouts . So i often get taken i as kid brussels sprouts . So i often get takmy i as kid brussels sprouts . So i often get takmy mum i as kid brussels sprouts . So i often get takmy mum and as kid brussels sprouts . So i often get takmy mum and still as kid brussels sprouts . So i often get takmy mum and still now kid brussels sprouts . So i often get takmy mum and still now by d brussels sprouts . So i often get takmy mum and still now by my by my mum and still now by my mum, many, many decades on about brussels sprouts. Never ate them then. Im not going to eat them now and there are always left on the plate. So whats the best thing you can with i thing you can do with those . I mean, can you make them into soups like that . Mean, can you make them into sou um, like that . Mean, can you make them into sou um, neverike that . Mean, can you make them into sou um, never made at . Um, ive never made a soup with sprout, i with the brussels sprout, but i suppose you have cabbage soups and possibly and everything else. Possibly you , you you could, um, i think, you know, thing is, one, the know, the thing is, one, the main not overcooking main thing is not overcooking your sprouts. You know, main thing is not overcooking y0l always sprouts. You know, main thing is not overcooking y0lalways remember. You know, main thing is not overcooking y0lalways remember the u know, main thing is not overcooking y0lalways remember the u krdays we always remember the old days where boiled to death where there were boiled to death and was more puree. Yeah. You and it was more puree. Yeah. You meant put your um, meant you put your fork in, um, and, just just cook and, you know, just just cook them. So theres still little them. So theres still a little bit left in them, bit of crunch left in them, a little of texture and then i little bit of texture and then i then finish them like then finish them in like with crumbled and lardons crumbled chestnuts and lardons of pancetta and fry of bacon or pancetta and fry them in butter so you get some colour around the outside as well, fresh well, and maybe some fresh herbs, maybe chopped herbs, like maybe some chopped tarragon , some chopped parsley tarragon, some chopped parsley and you know, can be used, and you know, they can be used, um, well afterwards and um, quite well afterwards and they be regenerated as well. They can be regenerated as well. So you saute them as well so you can saute them as well and have enough texture and still have enough texture in there as well. That gives it a really lovely flavour. And adding the chestnut and the herbs as herbs and the bacon in there as well. Smoked bacon as we well. And smoked bacon as we make my mouth water. About the stuff you so what about the stuff you cant keep though , cant really keep over though, and eat sort of like, you know, for the next few days. Is there anything that come anything that should come with a warning eat on warning about, like eat it on the day then has to be, the day and then it has to be, you know , put in the you know, put in the bin basically, um, basically, i think its, um, many families sometimes roast more than one joint. Um, if youre bringing in Something Like pork especially, youve got to be careful, especially when reheating pork , especially when reheating pork, um, i mean, um, things like that. I mean, the rest of all is just the rest of it all is just making sure that once youve used. It, youve allowed it to used. It, youve allowed it to cool and you put it in the fridge and you store it properly, cover it in the fridge as well, because obviously your fridge motors fridge is running, the motors running, dry running, so its going to dry things as well. When you running, so its going to dry thing the as well. When you running, so its going to dry thing the fridgezll. When you running, so its going to dry thing the fridge door when you running, so its going to dry thing the fridge door the 1en you running, so its going to dry thing the fridge door the nextou open the fridge door the next morning, you all dried. Morning, you see it all dried. It doesnt appetising it doesnt look appetising and most actually most of the time it actually isnt. Then isnt. So you then end up wasting, of food. Wasting, uh, loads of food. And also sometimes when youre looking and youre looking at it and youre about to Start Cooking it, do you need that much do you keep it for that much or do you keep it for a days . Because, you a few more days . Because, you know, mostly off know, everybodys mostly off between probably , lets between now and probably, lets say, the 2nd or 3rd of january, theres of food have, theres plenty of food to have, just it out. Just you know, pace it out. Barry. Thank you very much. That was barry vieira chef there. Thank you for joining that was barry vieira chef there. Thank you forjoining us there. Theyre breaking all sorts now terms broken. Theyre breaking all sthink now terms broken. Theyre breaking all sthink theyve now terms broken. Theyre breaking all sthink theyve lostv terms broken. Theyre breaking all sthink theyve lost moreerms i think theyve lost more matches in a calendar year than they have since 1930. They have since about 1930. On man they have since about 1930. Fan on man they have since about 1930. Fan gets on man they have since about 1930. Fan gets out on man they have since about 1930. Fan gets out the on man they have since about 1930. Fan gets out the worlds man united fan gets out the worlds smallest violin. Smallest violin. Yeah, they do, they do. I mean, i cannot see erik mean, look, i cannot see erik ten hag lasting much into ten hag lasting too much into the youre going to ten hag lasting too much into the i youre going to ten hag lasting too much into the i think youre going to ten hag lasting too much into the i think ineosjre going to ten hag lasting too much into the i think ineos when ing to ten hag lasting too much into the i think ineos when theyo ten hag lasting too much into the i think ineos when they go see i think ineos when they go in, theyre taking 25 of the company. All sporting company. Thats all the sporting decisions. What do they decisions as well. What do they do. Make statement. Do. They make a statement. I think their first statement was im not sorry. Im just not sorry. If youre a man united fan watching, im sorry, but you just remind you your score. It was sort of like two nil to west ham. fi em fl so i think yeah, exactly. And so i think theyll make a statement theyll look to make a statement and does not the and i think he just does not the cut his jib doesnt say cut of his jib doesnt say Manchester Uniteds manager to me. Impressed last me. I wasnt impressed last season trophy and season when he won a trophy and qualified four, qualified for the top four, qualified for the champions league. To go league. I think hes going to go in and also, can in the new year. And also, can i mention moyes, your mention david moyes, your your manager . Absolutely manager . He was absolutely castigated on was it wednesday night when he night . I think it was when he went yeah. Went to anfield. Yeah. Quarterfinal the carabao quarterfinal of the carabao cup. They one. They made they lost five one. They made lots but the quid lots of changes. But the quid pro quo is that the weekend pro quo is that by the weekend you Manchester United three you beat Manchester United three points. People who points in the bag. People who say that he needs to go i think theyre absolutely wrong. I think tremendous job think hes done a tremendous job and was he was vindicated and he was he was vindicated yesterday by getting a convincing well he convincing win against well he moaned about managers so much. Do. Dont we. In football we do. So going be the so whats whats going to be the biggest watch over biggest game to watch over because its such a huge time for biggest because its such a huge time for to biggest because its such a huge time for to over biggest because its such a huge time for to over bigchristmas penod . I penod . I dont know what the biggest. I im going biggest. I mean im going to millwall qpr boxing day, so millwall v qpr on boxing day, so thats pretty big. Thats going to be pretty big. The biggest game well i said the biggest game well weve got, we got chelsea. Around chelsea are underway around about now, hugely controversial. The fact theyre playing wolves on thats the on Christmas Eve, thats the first Christmas Eve Christmas Eve talk about this i want to talk about this because get head because i just cant get my head around. There was because i just cant get my head a|process there was because i just cant get my head a|process door, there was because i just cant get my head a|process door, the there was because i just cant get my head a|process door, the premiers a process next door, the premier league days league headquarters, two days ago, about ago, chelsea fans saying about the on the fact theyre playing on Christmas Eve for the first time in 28 years, theres been a premier league match. I think the last premier league match. I leeds the last premier league match. I leeds beaten the last premier league match. I leeds beaten Manchester Premier League match. I leedsthree en Manchester Premier League match. I leedsthree en ma to 1ester premier league match. I leedsthree en ma to 1este|so united by three goals to one, so nothing changes there, i suppose. Love suppose. United losing. I love that just seeing hashtag that just seeing the hashtag christmas that just seeing the hashtag christmeget yeah thats hashtag get stuff. Yeah thats right i right thats right. Well look i mean doing their mean chelsea were doing their bit as well. I mean theyve premier is the is bit as well. I mean theyve prerclubs is the is bit as well. I mean theyve prerclubs who is the is bit as well. I mean theyve prerclubs who is th this is the clubs who made this decision. Not decision. Dont forget its not the because i dont the police because i dont really know there to really know why. There needs to be eve football. Be Christmas Eve football. Because uh, because there are 364 days, uh, other year that you other days in the year that you can can you can can have, you can have you can schedule for. But schedule matches for. But chelsea bit. Chelsea are doing their bit. Theyre on coaches theyre laying on free coaches to a 1 00 to the supporters its a 1 00 kick so theyre going to kick off. So theyre going to get back in time. I would think its just not an ideal time to travel. Its i mean at least make it a local game. I think theres an argument for theres an argument now for christmas games and new years games local matches christmas games and new years ga be s local matches christmas games and new years ga be like local matches christmas games and new years ga be like you local matches christmas games and new years ga be like you loc like atches christmas games and new years ga be like you loc like a ches to be like you know, like a local yeah, theyre local derby. Yeah, theyre always going to be outliers because dont because the fixtures dont always but usually always marry up. But usually qpr play always marry up. But usually qpr play about christmas around about christmas time because local, because its relatively local, you minimises you know, it minimises the travelling the travelling and weve seen the state transport state of the transport infrastructure as well in the last few or recently. I last few years or recently. I mean, mess mean, its an absolute mess again door again today i was next door today. No trains of today. No trains out of paddington. Anyone to paddington. Anyone going home to the a bit stuck. The west country is a bit stuck. You do it. You cant do it. To travel. Yeah. No. You need to travel. Yeah. No. Absolutely hayley coming absolutely right. Hayley coming back christmas back to you. I mean, christmas films, as films, obviously, as well as sport if sport are another biggie. Now, when you think of spooky stories around the festive season, the ghosts of christmas and christmas past, present and future Christmas Carol future from a Christmas Carol probably spring mind. But probably spring to mind. But traditionally , christmas was the traditionally, christmas was the ultimate to tell scary ultimate time to tell scary ghost. Historically, the ghost stories. Historically, the 12 days of christmas brought brought light to the darkness of midwinter months in the light and safety that this brought people would gather around their fires tell stories of fires to tell stories of supernatural horror. This supernatural horror. This tradition has mostly died out, but i wanted to bring it back for todays show because i do like story. So for todays show because i do like story. So im like a good ghost story. So im really pleased to be joined by richard cater, the ghost challenger who chilling challenger who has some chilling christmas. To share with christmas stories. To share with us. Richard, thank you so much for coming on on Christmas Eve. Thank you, dawn, for having me. Why do we tell each other ghost stories at christmas . Well, it really goes back, i believe, to, you know, when you think of this time of year, were midwinter were actually a midwinter winter solstice. So youre going back um, mean, they winter solstice. So youre going back thing, um, mean, they winter solstice. So youre going back thing, unthe mean, they winter solstice. So youre going back thing, unthemea|ofthey had a thing, uh, the ode of beowulf. Thats one of the beowulf. Um, thats one of the oldest stories ever. Oldest ghost stories ever. Probably composed in the eighth century. Probably composed in the eighth centhats yeah yeah. Thats like. Yeah yeah. Thats like. Yeah yeah. Also , youve got the and also, youve got the youve got the hunt, the wild hunt, which , um, is they believe hunt, which, um, is they believe its some like odin that would lead the hunt. And the hunt would consist of all these, um, spectral beings that were the undead. So i would say that that probably brought in the kind of winter idea of the undead. And made people think about that. Tommy yeah. For ghost stories. Really . Okay. Really . Okay. And obviously, we mentioned there in the intro that the most famous christmas ghost story ever obviously , um, charles ever is obviously, um, Charles Dickens a Christmas Carol. It is. Yeah. Um, so what do you make of that . Do you think that is a good ghost story . I think with Charles Dickens it was quite interesting because all his, a lot of his ghost all of his, a lot of his ghost stories a little bit like stories were a little bit like oliver twist as well. That he was trying to get over about the, um, the problems that around in the victorian days. So so when he was doing the story of scrooge, he was telling the story about how bad people are. You know how scrooge didnt look after his nephew. You know, his uncle and everything. So there was always kind of like a moral side to the story with, um, scrooge and Charles Dickens and in fact, it was in the victorian days that really ghost stories took off. They did like a good spooky story, didnt they . So whats the whats the spook . Want the whats the spook . If we want to ourselves this to indulge ourselves this christmas, whats the spookiest ghost youre. Ghost story that youre. Looked on, i looked ghost story that youre. A looked on, i looked ghost story that youre. A few looked on, i looked ghost story that youre. A few that ked on, i looked ghost story that youre. A few that are on, i looked ghost story that youre. A few that are a n, i looked ghost story that youre. A few that are a true. Ooked on a few that are a true stories, apparently around, uh , stories, apparently around, uh, christmas time, of course. Christmas time, of course. I know you might be slightly cynical, yourself cynical, richard. Yourself oh, yeah, am a little bit, oh, yeah, i am a little bit, but, um. But, um, theres one in, um. Charles channel c depot in stratford. And i know that the stratford. And i know that the grinning man apparently at. And its a former british rail employee. Employee . Um whos reported to seen a tall man wearing a cape and top hat standing by a hanger. He has a terrible grin and a mouth full of white teeth. So, um. And he immediately vanishes, as when people turn , turn up. But people turn, turn up. But actually, um , sandringham. Actually, um, sandringham. Sandringham house, uh, the royal family um, theyve had their, um, stories of ghosts there as well at christmas time. Thats where, um, kate and william normally spend christmas , yeah. , isnt it . And i can remember um, remember being in there and, um, apparent. The hangman supposed apparent. The hangman supposed to upstairs because to come from upstairs because what they got is a hangmans noose that goes stairs noose that goes over the stairs because to hang people because they used to hang people for sheep stealing and things like years ago. And like that. Years ago. And apparently he spoke to haunt the place and that particular evening, i can remember been there and i still to this day think it may have been just the wind and the rain on hindsight, but it was like something was coming up the steps towards me and i had to stop. So that was quite cool. Oh, that is spooky. Ive actually gone a bit cold there. Oh thank you very and is oh thank you very much. And is there particular good ghost there a particular good ghost story that we need to story on tv that we need to watch for . Watch out for . When youve nicked the before blanieatenore you, before youve eaten anything straight off, straight off. Yeah. Um, and then youve got mouth for the rest of got a sore mouth for the rest of the day. Ive got to say, though, a funny so, know, funny story. So, you know, my daughter was born on Christmas Day, labour on day, so i was in labour on Christmas Eve, and the only way that other half could get that my other half could get into could that my other half could get into get could that my other half could get into get the could that my other half could get into get the hospital uld only get into the hospital via a e. Christmas eve because it was Christmas Eve because thats door thats thats the only door thats open, it . Thats the only door thats ope basically, thats the only door thats opebasically, Christmas Day, thats the only door thats opebas running Christmas Day, thats the only door thats ope bas running through1as day, he was running through a e and literally he was running through a e and literehad bottles in their heads. They had bottles in their heads. There were people with, you know, were know, fallen over. They were drunk drunken drunk. They were just drunken people with bits of people singing with bits of shard stuck in their limbs. Yeah. And especially as he came to the labour ward, this week, of course, gps are warning, you know, dont go to your gp. Um, all week. So never mind. Just christmas itself. Mind. Just Christmas Day itself. People take a bit of people need to take a bit of extra care because with this strike going strike as well, theres going to be going be be theres going to be less coverage than usual. The thing. Mean, this is the thing. I mean, the other the other big the other big issue and other big issue really. And this is that other big issue really. And this is that i might other big issue really. And this is is that i might other big issue really. And this is is champagne i might other big issue really. And this is is champagne corks. Ht other big issue really. And this is is champagne corks. Oh its have is champagne corks. Oh its the one thing im good at actually, the most actually, im the most impractical, klutzy person ever to matthew. Impractical, klutzy person ever to what1ew. Just just just its just its just its just as and as and as and keep as twist and as and as and keep it key as possible. It all as low key as possible. You know, dont dont try and be theatrical. Right. You know, dont dont try and be theatricaland ht. You know, dont dont try and be theatricaland do you have do okay. And do you have a do you tea over it. You have a tea towel over it. Going off but just very gentle. Just keep a firm grip and and just keep a firm grip and very gentle. Right. Okay statistic very gentle. Right. Okay um, statistic very gentle. Right. Okay um,i statistic very gentle. Right. Okay um, i love statistic very gentle. Right. Okay um, i love this. Statistic very gentle. Right. Okay um, i love this. 600,000 was um, i love this. 600,000 people burnt themselves people have burnt themselves roasting chestnuts. Im in may, 600,000 people still roast chestnuts. Chestnuts. Yeah. Its like really at home. Its the kind of thing, you know, on the fire in the oven. That was the only thing i didnt. They didnt explain it. Dont see chestnut you dont see chestnut sellers like we sellers on the street like we did we young. Did when i, when we was young. Did was a real young did we . But it was a real young back in but was a real back in 1887. But it was a real london roasted chestnuts london thing. Roasted chestnuts in the. They just had them. They just had them. Near. Oh near. Oh near. Dont roasted chestnuts but i dont roasted chestnuts explode id do they i think they do. Mm do. Oh my god no, dont stop the oh my god no, dont stop the chestnuts stop the chestnuts, the stop fairy the chestnuts. Stop the fairy lights. Be careful of the lights. Be careful of the baubles. Be smooth and then just be smooth and then youll safe. Just be smooth and then yoube safe. Just be smooth and then yoube schair. Be on a chair. Be on a chair. Right that happy note. Right on that happy note. Then youre going to then yeah. If youre going to open of champagne, open a bottle of champagne, invite matthew round. Obviously, hes the expert now were moving on. The most on. Christmas is one of the most celebrated the year, celebrated events of the year, and many traditions and and we have many traditions and customs. How do we do it customs. But how do we do it properly and what is the correct routine for Christmas Day here to help answer all these etiquette questions is consultant laura windsor. Laura thank you very much for joining us. Uh, this Christmas Eve. Happy Christmas Eve to you. Now, im about the im very confused about the right to do Christmas Day. Right way to do Christmas Day. I mean, do you open your presents in lunch . In the morning or after lunch . So how how should we do it properly . Well i think the most properly . Well i think the most important thing is the golden rule. Treat people as you would like to be treated yourself. So it doesnt really matter how you do things. What is important is that everybody has to feel comfortable and everyone has to be merry. And that means no overindulging , you know, on the overindulging, you know, on the on the vino. So there we are, a on the vino. So there we are, a glass there. Yeah. Glass there. Yeah. Mines glass there. Yeah. Mines slightly empty yeah. Mines slightly empty by now. Sorry um, so i mean, but i mean, sort of like, you know, i mean, sort of like, you know, i mean, sort of like, you know, i mean, posh people, i mean, like the royal family tend to open their presents after lunch. So really the correct so is that really the correct way . If we go back and look at the traditional christmas. The traditional christmas. Well, i think that the normally people would open them in the morning when they get up, that that is the traditional way. Of course, the royal family have their own traditions. It doesnt mean that we, we follow those, although at the same time, most of our manners are born from the royalty. We copied them, but the fact that we havent copied them just shows that i think everyone should open their presents whenever they want, and when i was a little girl, it was in the morning. What you try and stop kids actually opening presents in the morning if you know, if youre not sort of standing at the bottom your parents beds the bottom of your parents beds at the morning going, at 4 00 in the morning going, oh, wake oh, come on then wake up. The other the other and the other big, the other big have is, is how to big problem i have is, is how to dress on Christmas Day. I always have wafting have this fantasy of wafting around, you like im around, you know, like im looking dressed for looking now, like dressed for work, and gorgeous and work, sparkles and gorgeous and glamorous. End , i glamorous. But in the end, i just end up wearing a my pyjamas , basically. Is it necessary , basically. How is it necessary to dress up well again . To dress up well again . Again, its all about respecting others and making people feel comfortable. If everybody in the family is fine with wearing pyjamas, why not you . But if someone wants the family to look a little more smart , it the best thing to do smart, it the best thing to do is to actually tell the family a dress code in some way. So youd say smart casual or casual or pyjama. Its a pyjama party. So its up to its up to the family itself. Thats sensible actually. Yeah. And what about the time to eat lunch . Now we always eat our lunch quite late, but mostly because , well, we just we just because, well, we just we just dont be bothered to cook it in time, to be honest with you. So i mean, is it a 1 00 or is it a 3 00 or whats, whats the traditional time to eat your christmas dinner about from 2 00 to 3 00 in the afternoon . Is our to 3 00 in the afternoon . Is our finishing time for the kings speech . Obviously exactly. Thats very important. Yes. Oh, while hes important. Yes. Oh, while hes talking, you can you can be on your pudding , but its usually your pudding, but its usually around two. Okay. Which will be obviously live on gb news for anyone thats going to be watching it. And whats the worst etiquette sin you can commit on Christmas Day . sin you can commit on Christmas Day . I mean , obviously the big day . I mean, obviously the big problem some of us might have is, is drinking too much alcohol. Is that a no no . Alcohol. Is that a no no . Well , overindulgence alcohol. Is that a no no . Well, overindulgence in general is sort of frowned upon. General is sort of frowned upon. But i guess the alcohol is the worst because you can offend people. You can make people feel uncomfortable. And sometimes uncomfortable. And sometimes when we drink a lot, we dont realise what were saying and how its how its actually been been said. So try not to offend the family and laura of my final question, you know , everyone question, you know, everyone plays games on christmas. Day. Plays games on christmas. Day. Is it ever okay . Is it ever okay to refuse monopoly because you know youre still going to be playing it in the new year . It goes on that long . Whats wrong with playing monopoly . Monopoly . It goes on. It goes on forever. Is it okay to say im not going to play charades on monopoly . This christmas . Okay absolutely. You can do what you want. Just so long as everybody is in agreement and everyone is happy. Agreement and everyone is happy. Thats what christmas is about. Thinking about others and making others feel comfortable. Others feel comfortable. All brilliant. Thats a great. Thank you very much for joining us. Laura windsor, who is expert there. Is an etiquette expert there. Merry to you, laura. Merry christmas to you, laura. Thank much. Now now, thank you very much. Now now, um, you all at home. Um, back to you all at home. I asked earlier to send in pictures your christmas pictures of your Christmas Trees and santas little helpers, and theyve coming through theyve been coming through thick fast. I love these, thick and fast. I love these, keep coming in. So lets keep them coming in. So lets have shall um. Now, have a look, shall we . Um. Now, sontum sent her tree with sontum has sent her tree with gb news background. I love news in the background. I love that, is. Thats a that, that is. Thats a guaranteed way to get on here, by beautiful beautiful by the way. Beautiful Beautiful Tree the way , um, tree as well. By the way, um, and christine , i think were and christine, i think were coming to you now. Your lovely tree. Oh, that. Thats tree. Oh, look at that. Thats a very lovely hallway as well, christine as well. That looks very. And remarkably clean and tidy for this time of year. Uh, meanwhile , patrick, youve sent meanwhile, patrick, youve sent a picture of your beautiful dog. Oh, look. All festive. Going out oh, look. All festive. Going out for one of those Christmas Day walks, isnt it . Um, walks, isnt it . And, um, spencer and fiona have wished gb news a very Merry Christmas and sent a picture of their beautiful dogs to. Oh, look. Oh, beautiful dogs to. Oh, look. Oh, my god, they look. Handful. Oh, oh, that big one. Oh, oh, that big one. Look at that. Wow. Thats lovely right. Okay thank you so much. Uh, right from putting up Christmas Lights and decorating trees, having turkey and cranberry salisbury roast dinner, we have many different christmas traditions. But have you wondered where they all you ever wondered where they all actually come from . Martin whitlock is a historian and licensed lay minister for the church of england , who will church of england, who will hopefully be able to explain where some of our traditions started and we should still started and why we should still continue doing them. Uh, thank continue doing them. Uh, thank you very much for joining us this afternoon. Our, um, martin, now, where do we start . I mean, now, where do we start . I mean, presents, you know , seem to be presents, you know, seem to be the big thing on Christmas Day. Why do we give one another presents at christmas . Well, thats a very good question. Question. Um, i mean, in many ways, its sort of rooted in the concept that jesus is the gift of god to the world. Know, greatest gift you know, gods greatest gift mirror mirrored our gifts. Mirror in mirrored in our gifts. But interesting is this but whats interesting is this that until perhaps the 17th, that up until perhaps the 17th, 18th century gifts were always given at new year. So what we need to remember is at the moment were in the season of advent when were preparing for christmas. Nowadays, for us, christmas. Nowadays, for us, christmas. Nowadays, for us, christmas is the culmination of christmas. Nowadays, for us, chrievent,is the culmination of christmas. Nowadays, for us, chrievent, but|e culmination of christmas. Nowadays, for us, chrievent, but but, lmination of christmas. Nowadays, for us, chrievent, but but, um,ation of christmas. Nowadays, for us, chrievent, but but, um, right of christmas. Nowadays, for us, chrievent, but but, um, right in the event, but but, um, right in the event, but but, um, right in the middle ages into the early modern period, advent, the middle ages into the early modern period, advent , the month modern period, advent, the month beforehand is a preparation time. Then it all starts on Christmas Day and it runs for the days christmas. People the 12 days of christmas. People will songs and will remember from songs and things and then it culminates in epiphany, when the men gave epiphany, when the wise men gave their well their gifts to jesus. Well throughout the middle ages and in fact, particularly the tudor court. Had you been at the court of the eighth and youd of henry the eighth and youd given the gift on given henry the eighth a gift on christmas have Christmas Day, hed have wondered was, wondered what your problem was, because given on because your gifts were given on new years day. In the run up to epiphany. So its really only in the 19th century, as late as that, that gift giving shifted to Christmas Day itself. Quite to Christmas Day itself. Quite remarkable, isnt it . And nowadays, it completely, inextricably linked with Christmas Day. But that is a relative recent shift in the seasonal calendar. Thats amazing. So i mean, now people watch me going, oh, right, i can get presents on new years as well. Thank you years eve as well. Thank you very for and the very much for that. And the other big trees christmas other big is trees Christmas Trees. Weve just been discussing how dangerous fairy lights and baubles actually lights and baubles can actually be. Do we decorate our homes be. Why do we decorate our homes with Christmas Trees . With Christmas Trees . Know throughout the well, we know throughout the middle ages from churchwardens accounts that people were bringing into churches bringing greenery into churches to decorate them, and also into homes as well, right through the middle ages into the 17th and 18th century, as well. This happens well. Dies off happens as well. That dies off a little the end of little bit towards the end of the century. And the idea the 18th century. And the idea is of winter is greenery at a time of winter life time of death. You life at a time of death. You know the symbolism there of light greenery at this time , light and greenery at this time, and the concept that gods love comes the world comes into the world to transform so has kind of transform us. So it has kind of like theological reason like has a theological reason for as a cheering you for it as well as a cheering you up trees are up time. But the trees are relatively late. There wasnt relatively late. There wasnt a tradition in this country of putting trees until putting up Christmas Trees until the 19th century. We first record them in the manchester area in 1820s, 1830s, where there are significant number of german immigrants , and then in german immigrants, and then in the in the 1840s, albert the wife of Queen Victoria in 1841, i believe thats the first year they have this this celebration of victorian domesticity around a Christmas Tree. So a lot a Christmas Tree. So a lot happensin a Christmas Tree. So a lot happens in the 1840s because christmas had a bit of a problem with the industrial revolution. The factory act of 1833 said that you could only have one day off work at christmas , and that off work at christmas, and that was Christmas Day. But as was Christmas Day. But as you can imagine, that did for the 12 days pretty days of christmas pretty seriously. And by the 1830s seriously. And so by the 1830s and 40, people begin to wonder if christmas had a future. And then a there was then there was a there was a fight back in the 1840s. So its encouraged albert, the tree encouraged by albert, the tree then we have the then appears and we have the first christmas sent in first Christmas Card sent in 1843, although they dont become really popular until the 1860s and 1870s. And in 1843. Also dickens publishes a Christmas Carol, and he was part of this push back, saying christmas is great, its in decline. Weve great, its in decline. Weve got to fight back. So its from the middle years of the 19th century that this ancient ceremony of christmas finally really hits the mainstream. Really hits the mainstream. Stockings appear from the 1850s as well. Thats a german tradition. Um, we have father christmas from the 17th century. Hes hooded, but hes dressed in green. He appears in his classic red and white, perhaps in the 1860s, 1870s, as an import from america, where hes been taken to new york by dutch settlers who celebrate saint nicholas. Santa claus is nicholas. So theres this composite christmas that gets put together at the end of the 19th century. Christmas itself is ancient, but lots of the traditions happen. The first collections of carols start being put together in the 1870s. A carol is literally a song that accompanies a dance. It doesnt have to have anything to do with christmas at all, but theres an encouragement of hymn singing as well. First, big collections of carols in 1870s, so lots of things that we now think have gone centuries think have gone for on centuries about are actually about christmas are actually about christmas are actually about old, although about 150 years old, although theyve been added to an event which has been celebrated right through the middle ages , through the middle ages, literally hundreds literally for hundreds and hundreds years. But the hundreds of years. But the customs often not as old as customs are often not as old as we think they are. Thats amazing. And what about the final question . Because i could talk to you all day on this. Its fascinating. Feasting. Weve fascinating. The feasting. Weve already christmas already discussed christmas dinner, what you dinner, and you know what you can , because can do with leftovers, because we end eating we all always end up eating too much the idea feasts , much. The whole idea of feasts, ing and drinking around christmas. Whats the whats the background to that one . The medieval 12 days of christmas were all about celebration at the time of winter. You couldnt do an awful lot in agricultural year. It was in in agricultural year. It was wet and windy and and wet and windy and damp and muddy, was time take muddy, so it was a time to take off work that. There was off work from that. So there was a celebration of 12 days of a celebration of the 12 days of christmas, on christmas, culminating on january the epiphany. January the 6th, the epiphany. And that really frowned upon and that was really frowned upon by puritans. So in the 17th century, christmas was banned. Between 1655 and 1660 because there was far too much jollity going on, far much going on, far too much drunkenness , far too people drunkenness, far too much people going masked mumming they going around masked mumming they called some called called it. Some called themselves it themselves hobblers, and it seemed associated with seemed to be associated with inappropriate behaviour on the streets. When it then comes streets. So when it then comes back at end of 19th century, back at the end of 19th century, the feasting then celebrated. The feasting then is celebrated. But in a home way, in a but in a family home way, in a more familiar way, a more and more familiar way, a more and more disciplined cheap more disciplined way. Cheap turkeys starting arrive turkeys are starting to arrive from america. They replace the rather fatty, not terribly be a lot of meat on it. Goose so by the end of the 19th century, the turkeys come back in again and basically its become a more of a domestic scene in a rather more measured way to replace what sometimes some pretty what was sometimes some pretty boisterous activities during the 12 days christmas would have 12 days of christmas would have got very, very got the puritan very, very upset. The century. But upset. In the 17th century. But its been part of it all along. Thank you very much. Thats martin whitaker, historian and licensed lay minister of the church of england christmas england with all the christmas traditions. Thank you very much for and forjoining us. Dawn neesom on your tv, online and on Digital Radio now. Music is such a huge part of christmas. Isnt it . And a fair range of festive tunes to choose from. This years christmas number one has been revealed as whams last christmas. The song was released 39 years ago and has been a favourite for decades. Shirlie favourite for decades. Shirlie kemp spoke to ann and pip on breakfast about what its like to be christmas number one. Lets have a look. Last christmas i gave you my heart, but the very next day you gave it away. It away. Incredible. Incredible. Last christmas by wham is this years christmas number one. It has taken almost four decades, and if you look very closely at that video , somebody closely at that video, somebody you will see is shirlie kemp of pepsi and shirlie fame are great friends with George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley and it is wonderful to talk to you this morning, shirlie, and say mega, congratulations. Congratulations. Uh. Thank you. Morning pep. Morning and morning. Yeah. Morning and morning. Yeah. Really lovely. Really what a way to spend christmas because , uh, to spend christmas because, uh, you know, george loved his number one, so i know hes around. Its like a really lovely nod to him, and i can feel him smiling and so happy that hes got the christmas number one. Oh, she looks amazing , oh, she looks amazing, doesnt she . As well. Im really pleased for them. Now joining me is sarah robertson, showbiz commentator to talk about christmas number. Oh looking very festive as well. Looking gorgeous sarah sarah its amazing because everyone assumes that last christmas has been number one. And the fact that it never was is right. Wow. Its one of those wow moments. One of those wow moments. Yes. Hello there dawn. Thats yes. Hello there dawn. Thats correct. Its a real shame correct. Its a real shame actually, because when George Michael wrote that song, he actually wrote it to be a christmas number one. It was meant to be a christmas banger. But what happened was when it was released all decades was released all those decades ago, the post ago, he was pipped to the post by the, um, band aids. Dont they know its not christmas . And obviously that was the huge charity single. So going up against that, unfortunately, the timing terrible. Timing was just terrible. So theres been this campaign really since then to try really ever since then to try and get wham last christmas and get wham last christmas back to back to number one. Well to have the number one that it never got got and that it deserved the first time around. And its just bittersweet. Thats what Andrew Ridgeley was saying interviewed saying when he was interviewed about bittersweet that about it. Its bittersweet that george , unfortunately, very george, unfortunately, very sadly , has not been able to see sadly, has not been able to see that success because he would have absolute adored it and he would have been buzzing to see it. After all this time. Finally get to that deserved spot that it should have had. Its brilliant, isnt it . And of course, another another sad loss this year was Shane Macgowan from the pogues and a lot of people thought that our, um, fairytale of new york would be christmas number one this year. This year. Well, there was a campaign for that to actually take place , for that to actually take place, and unfortunately it didnt happen here. But in ireland it is the christmas number one in the irish charts, which is which is fitting as well, the irish charts, which is which is fitting as well , obviously, is fitting as well, obviously, given shanes Irish Heritage and the fact he was seen as an irish hero , um, massively so. Its hero, um, massively so. Its lovely that hes, hes received number one there again and i think thats a real tribute to him and also to the power of that song. But its a song again, like whams last christmas, the pogues fairytale of new york. Its my Favourite Christmas Song that im mariah carey and its something that stands the test of time because it was such a fantastic. The lyrics are just unbelievable, their poetry and Shane Macgowan was was a genius. He really was a songwriting genius. So hes hes got irish number one, which i think hed be happy with. And i think hed be happy with. And i think hed be happy with. And i think hed be more than happy for, for George Michael for and wham to take the, the british number one. I think youd say thats fine. Thats thats fine. Absolutely, of course absolutely, sir. Of course the other song that the other, the other song that is constantly us every is constantly with us every christmas carey. All i christmas is mariah carey. All i want christmas is you. Now, want for christmas is you. Now, i dont thats ever been i dont think thats ever been number one in this country ehhen number one in this country either. It . Either. Has it . No. But people think of it as no. But people think of it as well. They think of mariah, dont they , as mrs. Christmas. Dont they, as mrs. Christmas. She sort of becomes synonymous with christmas. They say when with christmas. They say when mariah says christmas has begun, then its the Christmas Season when mariah says it. And i think when mariah says it. And i think its because of the power of that song. But yet again, thats another one that people think just presume like they did with whams last christmas, that it was number one, because theyre songs that have stood the test of time and people know the lyrics to Mariah Careys when it comes everybody, know comes on. Everybody, you know loves up dance. Its loves to get up and dance. Its just feel good, good just got that feel good, good vibe it. But yet she just got that feel good, good vibe it. But yet she didnt vibe to it. But yet she didnt actually achieve that over over here. People love it. They here. But people love it. They know it. They love it. And its something thats, you know, gone from generation to generation. From generation to generation. So actually you think, well , so actually you think, well, really its number one really that important. If a song, you know, just stand the test of time as, as mariah does as mariah had as Shane Macgowan. Mariah had as Shane Macgowan. The pogues fairytale of new york as as as has whams last christmas actually. Do you do christmas actually. Do you do you really care about it being number one . What if its so, so loved , loved and thought of . Yes loved, loved and thought of . Yes i sir. Oh, sir. Oh, sarah, i think weve sir. Oh, sarah, i think weve lost you there, sweetheart. Sarah. Thank you very much for joining us. And a Merry Christmas you. Uh, right. Christmas to you. Uh, right. Okay. Lets talk to Esther Stanhope and matthew laza, who are me about are still with me about christmas number ones. First of all, whats your favourite esther . Esther . Christmas number one or Christmas Song . Yeah. Well thats christmas. Yeah. Well thats the it . You say the thing, isnt it . You say christmas it christmas number one, but it turns that i didnt realise turns out that i didnt realise that hadnt. That mariah hadnt. No. Yeah. No, no. Yeah. No, no. So do you know what kept so what do you know what kept that one spot that off . That number one spot when released is back in when its released is back in 1994. Now, how old do you feel now . And we were all very young at the time. What was it in 94 . What was it in 94 . It was east 17. Stay another day. I was gonna thats one of i was gonna say thats one of my because , you know, my favourites because, you know, east in east london. East 17. I live in east london. So is . I cant wait. Its so exciting, isnt it . Thank you very. Lets get stuck into very much. Lets get stuck into todays topic , shall animals todays topic, shall we . Animals are frequently given as christmas but experts Christmas Presents, but experts say they should never be given carelessly as gifts to any one. Joining me now to give her take on pets as Christmas Present is Suzanne Norbury from the rspca. Suzanne norbury from the rspca. Suzanne norbury from the rspca. Suzanne it doesnt appear to be there. Suzanne. Yes. Thank you very much for joining there. Suzanne. Yes. Thank you very much forjoining us there. Suzanne. Yes. Thank you very much for joining us this afternoon. Now, weve seen over afternoon. Now, weve seen over the years the christmas campaigns, you know, a dog is for life, not just for christmas. Is it still a thing that people do try to give pets as Christmas Presents to one another . I think some people do. We know that animals make a really amazing addition to any family, but wed really recommend about against giving them as presents not just now at christmas, but any time of the yeah christmas, but any time of the year. Its really important that people really carefully consider whats involved. So we do find that people give presents pets as presents. So we hope to just encourage people to really think it through. And if they are looking for a pet to really consider adopting rather than shopping. Shopping. Right. When you say adopting, how does that work . What do you mean by that . Yeah. So as charity , the yeah. So as a charity, the rspca animals from rspca rescues animals from horrendous cruelty and neglect. Horrendous cruelty and neglect. At the moment were at a three year high for abandoned animals with more than 20,000 reports this year. So behind each of those, those numbers is an individual animal. They come into our rescue centres and they need someone to offer them that Second Chance. Once theyre ready to be adopted. So wed really encourage people to look on the rspca finder pet page , on the rspca finder pet page, find out how they can give those animals that Second Chance, and they can learn all about what they can learn all about what they need to make sure that theyre ready for bringing an animal so animal into their lives. So whether thats the cost of food, insurance , toys, bedding, insurance, toys, bedding, grooming , weve got calculators grooming, weve got calculators that give people an idea of whats involved , as well as whats involved, as well as having all those animals there that are really in need of their Second Chance right now. Such a good thats thats such a good advice. There is it mainly dogs . Were talking about because people sort of like, you know, the cute puppies, lovely for the kids on Christmas Day, or is it all sorts other animals as well . All sorts of animals, im afraid so. Weve seen abandoned snakes. Weve seen abandoned horses. Weve weve seen the horses. Weve weve seen the full spectrum of animals. It does to be and dogs does tend to be cats. And dogs that most commonly come into our care. Lot of the smaller care. But a lot of the smaller animals as well. So rabbits and guinea pigs, and perhaps when children those children get bored of those animals, they find themselves being abandoned or neglected and coming into the care of a charity like ours. And what advice would you give to people who are struggling to cope with, say, the cost of living crisis is biting everybody at the moment and there are people who, unfortunately feel can no unfortunately feel they can no longer look after pets. Longer look after their pets. What would you give to what advice would you give to them . Them . Thats right. So weve got lots again on the lots of advice. Again on the rspca weve got rspca website where weve got pet food banks offering people support with pet pet help in that sort of way. Also, advice on help with vet bills and different ways they can just make sure they keep their much loved pets with them. So if people go to on the cost of living pages rspca living pages on the rspca websites, they can find out a lot more about how how they can have that help and support out there well. As i say, there as well. And as i say, were at really time at were at a really tricky time at the seeing neglect the moment. Were seeing neglect and abandonment at a three and abandonment soar at a three year were asking year high, so were asking people to help us as a charity. Join the christmas rescue, find out how they can help animals at this time. And one way might be to offer one home as an to offer one a home as an adopted pet. As susan , i just i want to as susan, i just i want to ask on a personal level, you know, we see horrific know, we see some horrific stories, especially at this time of year , of animals that have of year, of animals that have been ill treated and abandoned. How you work when you you how do you work when you you work for a charity like the rspca . How do you cope with the rspca . How do you cope with the emotional impact of seeing exactly how badly some animals are treated . Are treated . Oh, theres some shocking stuff that happens out there. People will know from our prosecutions just how awful people can mistreat animals, but i the reward comes from i think the reward comes from seeing those that survive and recover. Having a happy and healthy home with owners. Healthy home with owners. Hopefully weve got lots of those happy endings where those animals whove really recovered, its transform native to see them. And thats what thats what keeps us all going as a charity. Seeing those animals that we can help and that were there for that we can give there for and that we can give that chance that Second Chance they desperately thats brilliant. And just a final bit of advice for people over the Christmas Period where youre sitting around christmas sitting around the christmas dinner got youve dinner table, youve got youve got got your dog sitting got youve got your dog sitting there for whatever you there begging for whatever you happen to be eating. Its really happen to be eating. Its really hard, isnt it . Not to sneak them some christmas food off the table, but i mean , how good is table, but i mean, how good is it for them to join in with the family christmas lunch . Family christmas lunch . It really depends. Theres things to be really careful of. So everything, everyone knows about onions and onion about perhaps onions and onion gravy chocolates and just gravy and chocolates and just the things that can cause some dangers. So the things that can cause some dangers. So again, on our website, weve got loads of advice there. Lot vets have advice there. A lot of vets have advice there. A lot of vets have advice on what you can give them. So perhaps the them. So perhaps a bit of the meats the turkeys avoiding them. So perhaps a bit of the meats stuff. Turkeys avoiding them. So perhaps a bit of the meats stuff. The eys avoiding them. So perhaps a bit of the meats stuff. The chocolate 1g the salty stuff. The chocolate and the raisins that could cause the damage, and just being aware that they do consume that if they do consume something, a close eye something, keeping a close eye on them and getting that veterinary help if you need it, i could be i appreciate it. It could be Christmas Day, could be Christmas Day, it could be boxing the guys the boxing day, but the guys in the veterinary profession do a brilliant and theyre brilliant job and theyre theyre if people theyre there to help if people need yeah need them. Yeah that people and im assuming that people will be working, caring for animals with the charity over the Christmas Period as well. So you just give us a paint a picture of what Christmas Day is like for the rspca. Like for the rspca. Yeah. Thats right. So its a really busy time for our guys. Theyre out 365 days a year rescuing animals as well as the ones that are in our centre. So. Ones that are in our centre. So. Its business as usual for our charity rescuers. Theyll be out there, whether thats rescuing wildlife, helping animals from neglect and in our rescue centres, will be centres, those animals will be given special day given that extra special day with it being christmas. But for our working teams, they do an amazing job and theyll be there making get making sure those animals get the. The care they need. Thats brilliant. Thank you so sarah roberts. So much. That is sarah roberts. Suzanne norbury, a spokesperson for the rspca. I thank you very for the rspca. I thank you very much for joining for the rspca. I thank you very much forjoining us. Afternoon much for joining us. Afternoon and Merry Christmas and you do and Merry Christmas and you do an amazing job. So please keep it up. Thank you very much. Now the grieving reindeer the owner of a grieving reindeer who seeking a new who has been seeking a new friend a christmas friend has had a christmas miracle , meaning the reindeer is miracle, meaning the reindeer is no longer lonely this christmas. No longer lonely this christmas. Susie ryan Animal Sanctuary owner, feared her reindeer. Sven would make himself ill when he was so lonely after his lifelong friend klaus passed away. After friend klaus passed away. After launching a fundraising appeal, she has now been able to bring over a new friend just in time for christmas. So lets go. To for christmas. So lets go. I mean, susie , i mean i mean, susie, i mean obviously you know, i know obviously i, you know, i know about santas, reindeers and i know about rudolph, but what reindeer actually as reindeer is actually like as animals , are they very sociable animals, are they very sociable creatures . Do they need that companionship . Companionship . Yeah, they absolutely do. Um, um, the herd animals. So theyre not used to being on their own. Um, so when we lost klaus, the first thing that we, you know, we had to do was to try and find sven soon as sven a friend as soon as possible. Can possible. Otherwise, they can become ill. Um but thankfully, we. We have. And what difference does it made to sven . Made to sven . Oh, hes a completely different. Different. Different creature. Different creature. We, um. Uh. Hes happy. We, um. Uh. Hes happy. We, um. Uh. Hes happy. I mean, he was getting a bit grumpy before, and he was piercing, showing that behaviour. Um, which which animals can show by piercing that, you know, theyre unhappy. Gone now. Thats all gone now. Thats all gone now. And done amazing. And hes done amazing. And hes done amazing. Oh thats brilliant. And how how reindeers in the oh thats brilliant. And how how they reindeers in the uk . They um, not that common. I think were one of the only places who have in east yorkshire that have reindeer. 12 months of the year on site. Um, theres a few more, um ,. Um, theres a few more, um, down, you know, down south from here and there is a, um, maintained wild herd in the cairngorms in scotland , but cairngorms in scotland, but theyre quite rare. Okay. And can people come along and meet your reindeer . Along and meet your reindeer . Yeah, absolutely. Yeah yeah, absolutely. Yeah we are open to the public as an education centre. We will be closing for um, we will be closing for our winter season from tonight. So tonights our last day and then well reopen in easter when you can come and see the reindeer and all our other wonderful rescue animals, which is do as well. Is what we do as well. Thats brilliant. And how oh, thats brilliant. And how do people touch with you . Do people get in touch with you . How find you . How do they find you . Got a website. Um, so weve got a website. Um, and also on facebook , and were also on facebook, little farm. Brilliant little haven farm. Brilliant thank you very much. And what special treats will you be giving to the reindeer this Christmas Day . Christmas day . Carrots. And uh, absolutely. Carrots. And the, like. A bit of parsnip as well. A bit of parsnip as well. A bit of parsnip as well. Um, so theyll be having lots of lots of food like that. But yeah, they need lots of carrots to keep them going, especially over the next hours. But it does remind us know, is us that, you know, christmas is a time families, but also a time for families, but also people. Of people. Some people, a lot of people. Some people, a lot of people their and, people are on their own. And, you make that you you know, make sure that you knock door of a neighbour you know, make sure that you kn say, door of a neighbour you know, make sure that you kn say, you door of a neighbour you know, make sure that you kn say, you know, of a neighbour you know, make sure that you kn say, you know, saya neighbour you know, make sure that you kn say, you know, say hell0|hbour you know, make sure that you kn say, you know, say hello in our or say, you know, say hello in the street even can make a difference, i think the street even can make a differe such i think the street even can make a differesuch an i think the street even can make a differesuch an important|k thats such an important message, esther, that thats such an important me do. And a lot of people are own at people are on their own at christmas, and sitting christmas, and were sitting around sparkly tops and hats and having it is having a lovely time. But it is important of other important to think of other people be on their people that might be on their own keep an eye out. Own and keep an eye out. Certainly on elderly relatives. Certainly on elderly relatives. Loneliness is, yeah, i think loneliness is, um , a major. I mean, its the um, a major. I mean, its the one day of the year, isnt it, that nowhere is open. You cant just go somewhere, the shop or whatever. Yeah, i think, and i think get worried about think people get worried about what theyre going to do on christmas i know people Christmas Day. So i know people that are kind of desperately trying friends trying to meet up with friends or go for dinner at this part, with of the family or with this part of the family or that the family. Youre that part of the family. Youre going yeah, absolutely. If people find and look, if people find exactly if people find themselves on their own this yeah themselves on their own this year, just remember, as my mum used to say, its just another day. And it helps the peoplare manyking and him as well. And it helps the peoplare many ways and him as well. And it helps the peoplare many ways you and him as well. And it helps the peoplare many ways you can him as well. And it helps the pe also dont hard but and also dont be hard on yourself. Know, dont yourself. Dont, you know, dont make fun, make Christmas Day can be fun, but something but dont make it something thats if things are thats not fun if things are a bit for Christmas Day bit tough for you, Christmas Day is a difficult day navigate. Is a difficult day to navigate. Difficult i think its difficult if for the but also the lonely people, but its also difficult that have difficult for people that have to. Absolutely. Youre on your absolutely. If youre on your own, not own, remember, youre not a difficult family members, which some people have families, family in the morning, family in the i family in the morning, family in the mean, a lot of i mean, ive got a lot of friends that have stories of different families, different relatives. Some are going in, some going out. Its some are going out. So its a difficult round difficult day all round actually. Just do you your actually. Just do you do your own thing, even is own thing, even if that is on your just your own, just, you know, just make and self care. Make it about you and self care. But you are on your own, arent matthew . Arent you, matthew . Have any family. Arent you, matthew . And have any family. Arent you, matthew . And absolutely. Family. Arent you, matthew . And absolutely. But ly. No. And absolutely. But thats because spend thats great because i spend christmas uh, christmas with with, uh, you know, same of know, with the same group of friends for five years. Yeah, but, know, it but, you know, look, i it growing it was just me and growing up, it was just me and my of my family were my mum. Most of my family were in australia. You, sometimes in australia. And you, sometimes you youd think, in australia. And you, sometimes youwell, youd think, in australia. And you, sometimes youwell, know, youd think, in australia. And you, sometimes youwell, know, people think, in australia. And you, sometimes youwell, know, people have. Oh, well, you know, people have got table, got 50 people around the table, you christmas you know, for christmas dinner or not 50, but 15 maybe. And then think and i used then you think and i used to think, having think, oh, why arent we having christmas then christmas like that . And then you a very you think weve got a very special celebrating special day just celebrating what other. What we feel about each other. So there isnt, you know, the cornflake sort image so there isnt, you know, the co aflake sort image so there isnt, you know, the co a family. Sort image so there isnt, you know, the co a family. Sort you age so there isnt, you know, the co a family. Sort you we of a family. You know, you we see lots with christmas, see lots of ads with christmas, you christmas become you know, christmas ads become such dont such a big thing, dont they . With know, all to with you know, weve all got to have Christmas Day that looks with you know, weve all got to havethat. |ristmas day that looks with you know, weve all got to havethat. |ristr dontay that looks with you know, weve all got to havethat. |ristr dont yomat looks with you know, weve all got to havethat. |ristr dont you have oks like that. You dont you have a christmas for Christmas Day that works for you. Thats say. You. Thats what i say. Actually, thats an interesting you interesting point because you think christmas think some of the christmas adverts this year, adverts certainly this year, i mean, john lewis one is a is mean, the john lewis one is a is a question, isnt it. A point in question, isnt it. Where its a mum where its, its a, its a mum and her little and theres and her little boy and theres no doubt around. We dont know the got the reason why. And its got the venus flytrap which is a bit weird, that weird, but but its using that message not every family message that not every family comes as a nuclear family. I really yeah. I mean, i dont really know that many that are know that many families that are not normal. What is normal and, and all those Nuclear Families are 50 people around the table there there are tensions between seeing those people. Seeing those people. But just going back to what we talked about, posh presents, because i spend christmas we talked about, posh presents, beca family, spend christmas we talked about, posh presents, beca family, my spend christmas we talked about, posh presents, beca family, my friendthristmas we talked about, posh presents, beca family, my friends love mas we talked about, posh presents, becafthan, my friends love mas we talked about, posh presents, becafthan i my friends lovemas we talked about, posh presents, becafthan i do friends lovemas we talked about, posh presents, becafthan i do areends lovemas we talked about, posh presents, becafthan i do are sos lovemas we talked about, posh presents, becafthan i do are sos love its. Them than i do are so posh. Its a policy. So me, me a no presents policy. So me, me and my bestie were going. We went and secretly swapped presents the other day. Were going the going to open them in the morning before we go because its, so middle its, you know, its so middle class presents were all. Class when no presents were all. That being posh, that is a sign of being posh, isnt it . Is a bit middle that is a bit middle class, isnt we isnt it . That is so we secretly, you were weve secretly, you know, were weve got presents swap got our secret presents swap before class. Before showing your class. Absolutely invest before showing your class. Ab much ly invest before showing your class. Ab much emotion invest before showing your class. Ab much emotion in invest before showing your class. Ab much emotion in this invest before showing your class. Ab much emotion in this time st before showing your class. Ab much emotion in this time of so much emotion in this time of year and there is that pressure. You feel that if you havent got the right present, you havent got the right food. But i think basically message that basically the message is that its what you or its what makes you happy or makes your loved ones happy, and spending with one another spending time with one another surely is the important surely is the most important gift we can give another. Gift we can give one another. I stand the yeah, i cant stand the pressure. I i can be pressure. I mean, i can be a little humble. I be a little bit humble. I can be a bit humbug sometimes because bit of humbug sometimes because i think its it. W w especially with parents, its such. Such huge pressure. Yeah, a huge pressure. Yeah, its a huge pressure. Yeah, its a huge pressure. Its great. Hugs free its great. But hugs are free and theyre the best of and theyre the best gift of all. Oh free. Just lovely. I would oh free. Just lovely. I would go over and hug you now, but ive got a terrible cough. Its not contagious, by the way. I know sparkles might come off. Yeah sparkles off. Yeah my sparkles might scratch. Hug before scratch. Well have a hug before we for the for the we part for the for the celebrations, but i think cocktail the cocktails. Cocktail after the cocktails. But think so but i just think its so important people put important that people dont put pressure there important that people dont put presssuch there important that people dont put presssuch thing there important that people dont put presssuch thing right here isnt such thing as a right present. A present. There isnt such a thing as a right way it. Present. There isnt such a thing jokingght way it. Present. There isnt such a thing joking aside, it. Present. There isnt such a thing joking aside, there it. Present. There isnt such a thing joking aside, there isnt were joking aside, there isnt a time to have have your a right time to have have your meal or whatever. Just meal or whatever. Its just what makes you happy. And it should be a day for happiness. Makes you happy. And it should be andy for happiness. Makes you happy. And it should be and there|appiness. Makes you happy. And it should be and there|appi|such thing and there isnt such a thing as family dynamic as a right family dynamic ehheh as a right family dynamic either. I have either. Im from. Now this years royal christmas is expected to slightly break from tradition, as king charles has decided to expand his guest list, inviting the queens children to join in the queens children to join in the festivities at sandringham. The festivities at sandringham. The king is reportedly hurt at the prospect of not being able to spend christmas with his grandchildren , archie and grandchildren, archie and lilibet, though , so with me in lilibet, though, so with me in the studio to discuss the royal christmas in general is historian and broadcaster Rafe Heydel Mankoo ray. Thank you so Heydel Mankoo ray. Thank you so much for joining Heydel Mankoo ray. Thank you so much forjoining resplendent in much for joining resplendent in festive green looking gorgeous. Festive green looking gorgeous. Um, so im going to start with the kings speech. To be honest with you, because its all over the papers today. With you, because its all over the papers today. Hes standing in of this very whats the in front of this very whats the word . Um, very edible tree. Eco word . Um, very edible tree. Eco friendly. Eco friendly tree. Yes friendly. Eco friendly tree. Yes um, its got, um , well, bits of um, its got, um, well, bits of orange hung on it, basically. Thats what i mean. So. Yeah so tell us more about what we can expect from the kings speech, which you can watch on gb news at 3 00 tomorrow. Do tune news to yes. Do tune in on gb news to watch this. Yes. Do tune in on gb news to watits his. Yes. Do tune in on gb news to watits the 91st kings speech its the 91st kings speech every since 1932, when king every year since 1932, when king george the fifth delivered the first one televised since 1957 with her majesty. Um. And of with her majesty. Um. And of course, we dont really know the full content. We know that his majesty more than the queen actually has written this actually has really written this himself, only having it. Himself, with only having it. Uh, his having it run over by the private secretary with some input. So is much the input. So this is very much the kings personal message. Dangerous. Well, hes discovered actually quite late life that actually quite late in life that he works best when hes he actually works best when hes written he tries written something. And he tries to write as late as possible to write it as late as possible because finds off the cuff because he finds off the cuff remarks, suits him much better than pre scripted things , which than pre scripted things, which can, of course, go wrong. But we assume it wont. You know, last year was very much a tribute to his mother. This year, of course, living tree that his mother. This year, of cours< seeing iving tree that his mother. This year, of cours< seeing ivi|the ree that his mother. This year, of cours< seeing ivi|the images that were seeing in the images that were seeing in the images that we have so far suggest that the environment and sustainability will likely be one of the topics addressed. We know thats a big hobby horse of his and of course, hell be delivering it this from Buckingham Palace this year from Buckingham Palace rather from, say, windsor this year from Buckingham Palace rather that, say, windsor this year from Buckingham Palace rather that famous indsor this year from Buckingham Palace rather that famous balcony castle with that famous balcony behind him, which i think is a quiet nod to the coronation. And then this was year. Of then this was my year. Of course, remember that course, you all remember that balcony wearing balcony scene with me wearing the here i am, i am, i am the crown here i am, i am, i am your king. And you know other issues we can probably to issues we can probably expect to have. Of living have. Maybe the cost of living crisis. I suspect therell crisis. Uh, i suspect therell be some sort of reference to peace around the world. Given whats happening with, of course, gaza and with the course, in gaza and with the ukraine, also, of course, i ukraine, but also, of course, i think lot of stress also think a lot of stress also perhaps on family and unity. The royal to royal family always try to project togetherness project an image of togetherness and at time of year. And family at this time of year. But course recent years but of course in recent years thats become all the more important given certain developments that weve seen, which me to the which which brings me on to the fact that picture of him fact that the picture of him standing of his tree standing in front of his tree with the balcony in the background family pictures. Even the queen, god now, even the queen, god bless her, got in trouble , bless her, got in trouble, didnt for christmas didnt she, for her christmas broadcast , didnt she, for her christmas broadcast, and didnt she, for her christmas broadcast , and she the broadcast, and she had the family pictures people would family pictures and people would analyse were in analyse which pictures were in the background. And once there was of harry and was no picture of harry and meghan. Even she. So hes meghan. And so even she. So hes avoiding of that well , avoiding all of that as well, isnt he . Yeah, i think thats quite diplomatic. Analyse the people always analyse the background whos in, background to see whos in, whos not in. Its rather whos not, not in. Its rather like pictures the like those pictures on the kremlin would who kremlin when you would see who is and whos in is there and whos whos in favour, favour. Um, favour, whos not in favour. Um, and we know that the and of course we know that the reason that harry and meghan were omitted from the were omitted from one of the queens images because they queens images was because they wanted the direct line wanted to show the direct line of they trying wanted to show the direct line of streamline they trying wanted to show the direct line of streamline the monarchy ng wanted to show the direct line of streamline the monarchy. G wanted to show the direct line of streamline the monarchy. It to streamline the monarchy. It wasnt as wasnt done deliberately as a snub , although thats how it was snub, although thats how it was interpreted by sussexes. Interpreted by the sussexes. And this, is a much more this, i think, is a much more diplomatic way to about it. Diplomatic way to go about it. Have a nice window shot behind you instead of the usual. Very, very messy. So its very, very messy. So talking of the sussexes, you mentioned not me. Um, do we know what plans for christmas mentioned not me. Um, do we know whatis plans for christmas mentioned not me. Um, do we know what is there ans for christmas mentioned not me. Um, do we know whatis there any for christmas mentioned not me. Um, do we know whatis there any sign 1ristmas mentioned not me. Um, do we know whatis there any sign of;tmas are . Is there any sign of communication between the brothers, for example . William well, you know, given the given the formality of the christmases that grew that prince harry grew up in, i think much rather enjoys think hed much rather enjoys that sort of laid back, california style christmas perhaps, you know, just just having some some sliced and having some some sliced ham and so forth, rather than the usual turkey, they that turkey, because they have that on thanksgiving, of course, dont may be the very yeah. This may be the very last that theyre last year that theyre at montecito, that they want montecito, given that they want to and move to to up sticks and move to hollywood. Theyre hollywood. So whether theyre going spending it at going to be spending it at montecito with with meghans mother doria, or whether they want to go on holiday remains to be suppose they be seen. But i suppose they might spend their last might want to spend their last christmas at montecito if they are going to going away. Are going to be going away. But sad that you know but it is sad that you know the king wont be spending any time lilibet. Time with archie and lilibet. Is. Its but not it is. Its sad, but not unexpected course. But after unexpected of course. But after the book, endgame by, you know, Harry Meghans selfie stick harry and meghans selfie stick and omid i think and waiting omid scobie i think was inevitable that was all but inevitable that there no chance of a there was no chance of a reconciliation the short tum. Reconciliation in the short tum. But that, of but to make up for that, of course, we have a break with course, we now have a break with tradition where we have. The queen has invited children queen has invited her children and attend, and her grandchildren to attend, so many young so there will be many new young voices there, eight in total. New people coming to the to the festivities this year. So theyll certainly be no shortage of Young Children running around i i i would love them to. I would love to get the kids opinion on this must admit, because this tree. I must admit, because kids like sparkles christmas this tree. I must admit, because kids lthey . Arkles christmas this tree. I must admit, because kids lthey . Andes christmas this tree. I must admit, because kids lthey . And this christmas this tree. I must admit, because kids lthey . And this literallyas this tree. I must admit, because kidspinecones d this literallyas this tree. I must admit, because kidspinecones and s literallyas this tree. I must admit, because kidspinecones and bitserallyas this tree. I must admit, because kidspinecones and bits of llyas this tree. I must admit, because kidspinecones and bits of dried has pinecones and bits of dried orange. I think Buckingham Palace is quite sparkly anyway. Yeah, well, thank you quite sparkly anyway. Yeah, well, much, thank you quite sparkly anyway. Yeah, well, much, ray, thank you quite sparkly anyway. Yeah, well, much, ray, for thank you quite sparkly anyway. Yeah, well, much, ray, for th. One. So what what what what cocktail are you going to start us off with . I mean, so this is one sounded quite sexy. The one it does. Yeah. Thats it. So this question. And it. So this is my question. And this is a christmas cocktail and its called under the mistletoe. Its called under the mistletoe. We like that one. We like that one already. We like that one already. Yeah. This is jim based. So should i proceed . Absolutely go on. Yeah. Fire away. Go on. Yeah. Fire away. So great. Im gonna add some. I feel like we should have some mistletoe. Not . Yes mistletoe. Yeah. Why not . Yes that will be all right. Mistletoe. Yeah. Why not . Yes that will be all right. Okay, that will be all right. Okay, so what im going to do with this cocktail, were going to have to shake all the ingredients. Right . Okay. Whoa. Whoa. You didnt expect that. All right. Right. Oh, you can be smooth. Oh, you can be smooth. Perfect. So im. Yeah. Id failed dismally. You start off with some gin. We start with some gin. Were going to add 50ml of gin. Gin. If youre listening on the radio, by the way , brian is radio, by the way, brian is actually pouring this in a way that most of us would. Its that most of us would. Its very, very moving hands around. And its brilliant. Its very , and its brilliant. Its very, very impressive. But you can also just pour it straight. Like also just pour it straight. Like most of us would do. You can measure it, but you know, that would be boring. No measure, no measuring on christmas. Thats right. No, no, thats right. No, no, thats right. So going to add and so were going to add some cranberry juice. About 100ml. So well say about 100ml. So well say about 100ml. Its like the film cocktail isnt it. Little bit. Isnt it. A little bit. Youre better looking than tom cruise. Yeah. Tom cruise. Yeah. Thank you. This one. Right. Thank you. This one. Right. So a little bit of, um , so a little bit of, um, elderflower cordial. Elderflower cordial. Just moving these down here for you. Oh, perfect. Actually, for you. Oh, perfect. Actually, im not. Im actually just moving the gin closer to me , moving the gin closer to me, which is . We thought that we didnt like say anything, so i added like to say anything, so i added some juice as well. Some lemon juice as well. And just a dash of grenadine to a little of the to give it a little bit of the colour. All right. Should it. That should be it. That should be it. All going to do is then all were going to do is shake the cocktail. Thats it. Okay. Anyone fancy thats it. Okay. Anyone fancy a shake . Pasta. I will, all right. I knew a girl who likes it. I knew a girl who likes it. It wont fall apart, will it . It wont fall apart, will it . Yeah. Just shake it like that. Great i got my assistant good. Very good. Ursa shake. Oh, yeah. Thats it. Thats it. All together. Hold it together. No im going. No no no no no no, its very solid. Oh great. So this is a traditional cocktail shaker that you can get in any, any supermarket or anywhere , like anywhere or online. Fine. Ive got this. This from bartles express. So you know, and the strainer youre using is being a philistine here. Could i use a tea strainer if i just have a tea strainer at home . To be honest, yes. You dont to be honest, yes. You dont need strainer you can just need a strainer or you can just use shaker and kind of do use the shaker and kind of do that just from into the that just from going into the glass. That will be perfectly fine. Or a sieve. Or a sieve. Or a sieve. Then were gonna add a marshmallow. Right. Marshmallow. Right. Well, can you can you just hold it up for the oh my god. Yeah. Can you just hold it up while youre doing this . So the camera can see it properly like that, yeah perfect. E were perfect. Were gonna burn i think were gonna burn a little bit, make more little bit, make it more christmassy, see. Little bit, make it more chr oh, assy, see. Little bit, make it more chr oh, assygod,ye. Little bit, make it more chr oh, assygod, thats oh, my god, thats incredible. If listening incredible. If youre listening on bnan incredible.
