Tonight ill be asking the pundits as the british army is banned from attending bristol universitys freshers fair, do young people lack an appreciation of the military . Appreciation of the military . Also, does the expected cancellation of hs2 beyond birmingham prove that there is still a north south divide . Plus the most important part of the show, your emails, they come straight to my laptop. Here it is. Mark at gbnews. Com. This show has a golden rule, especially on a saturday. Do you know what that rule is . What is that rule . I rule is . What is that rule . I cant hear you. Louder we dont cant hear you. Louder we dont do boring. Not on my watch. I do boring. Not on my watch. I just wont have it. Lots to get through. Lets start with my big opinion. Forget about isis and opinion. Forget about isis and the taliban when the real enemy is within in a brilliant exclusive courtesy of Steve Edgington and Gordon Rayner at the telegraph, the Civil Service is becoming institutionally woke. The countrys top civil servant, simon case, was told in a letter signed by 42 staff from 16 departments, notes that ideology on gender promoted by trans activists has become embedded in the Civil Service in a significant breach of impartiality. It says the concept that everyone has a gender identity, which is more important than their sex is now treated as undisputed fact staff who believe there are two biological sexes that cannot be changed suffer serious harassment at work and live with a pervasive fear that theyll be victimised. This is on top of the very disputed concept of Critical Race Theory , which says Critical Race Theory, which says that you are racist based upon the colour of your skin and Critical Race Theory also believes in segregation of ethnic groups and is the philosophical opposite of Martin Luther king and his aspirations for a colour Blind Society and the extraordinarily divisive concept of so called white privilege, which says that if youre white, you are racist. Youre white, you are racist. But even if you dont know it or that youre an oppressor is again being preached in the Civil Service as fact, many of these ideologies are taught via expensive courses that Civil Servants have to go on taking them away from their actual dufies them away from their actual duties for which theyre paid, which is to implement government policy. Those were the days when policy. Those were the days when thats what they did. But it seems many Civil Servants are now far too busy watching videos that say men are women and that the majority of people in this country are xenophobic bigots. Let me tell you what this crazy worldview leads to. An academic who has criticised the teaching of white privilege. In schools of white privilege. In schools has been no platform formed from an Education Conference over claims that she would make other speakers feel unsafe. Dr. Alka sehgal. Cuthbert who lets be honest, is an unlikely candidate for white privilege, was told her Panel Discussion at the rethinking Education Conference had been cancelled following complaints from speakers and delegates. Dr. Cuthbert , delegates. Dr. Cuthbert, director of dont divide us , an director of dont divide us, an ethnically Diverse Campaign group which challenges the idea that britain is systemically racist , that britain is systemically racist, might that britain is systemically racist , might have been invited racist, might have been invited to speak on a panel about indoctrination within education and how we avoid it. Good luck with that. And heres the kicker. We understand, dr. Cuthbert, whos been cancelled, was the only woman of colour on the panel from which she has now been uninvited. And theyre worried about racism. You couldnt make it up this crazy story demonstrates why the ideological capture of the Civil Service is a major threat to this country. A man who has this country. A man who has heroically battled the Civil Service, including trying to get them back into the office after them back into the office after the pandemic, is my colleague and friend , sirjacob rees mogg. And friend, sir jacob rees mogg. Heres what he had to say on the matter. Heres what he had to say on the matter. Rees mogg said a woke culture has entered the soul of the Civil Service this is wrapped up in the buzzwords of diversity and inclusion , which diversity and inclusion, which ironically seek to exclude and marginalise those who do not subscribe to politically correct views. He goes on. The Civil Service is increasingly committed to acting independently of ministers and ultimately the voters. Theyre responsible to. It is completely responsible to. It is completely unacceptable. He says that its unacceptable. He says that its been politicised in this way and represents a major drag on Government Resources that should be focussed on delivering for the public. The obstruct and wokery cannot continue , he says. Wokery cannot continue, he says. It is designed quite simply to stop democracy working. Words stop democracy working. Words and i wouldnt mind, but these are state employees. This is not are state employees. This is not a private company. Youre paying for this divisive crap. The for this divisive crap. The Civil Service needs a complete overhaul and needs to ditch the politics and ditch the ideology right now, the Civil Service has got a mind of its own. Its out of control. Forget about white privilege. Theyve got whitehall privilege. Theyve got whitehall privilege. So its time to take privilege. So its time to take back control. Put the genie back in the bottle. The increasingly woke Civil Service is doing a disservice to this country. Disservice to this country. Now, of course, defend us of these policies and the courses that Civil Servants are undergoing. King would argue undergoing. King would argue that you go on a course in order to understand that society is changing, that there are people who have body dysmorphia. They who have body dysmorphia. They feel that theyre in the wrong body , they seek transition body, they seek to transition and their pronouns and how they are addressed and accommodated is something thats very important their mental important for their mental health. And theyre beings health. And theyre human beings too. Look, what do you think too. So look, what do you think about market . Gbnews. Com. About this market . Gbnews. Com. How you about civil how do you feel about Civil Servants on time mine servants on your time and mine doing these . In my view , rather doing these . In my view, rather divisive courses . Ill get to your emails shortly. Market gbnews. Com. But lets hear the views of my top pundits tonight at legendary radio deejay and broadcaster mike read , former broadcaster mike read, former leader of ukip and president of the Primrose League, henry bolton and author, journalist and agony aunts hillary freeman. Hillary could i start with you . Your reaction to the news that Civil Servants are on these courses . Well i think its not surprising. Surprising. This seems to be happening all over the country in various institutions and it does seem that there there has been some kind of ideological takeover of all our kind of establishments , all our kind of establishments, pubuc all our kind of establishments, Public Sector organisations. I Public Sector organisations. I personally i, i, i wouldnt consider myself woke. I probably have a lot of views that you might consider woke, but not this one because youre politically to the left and politically to the left and politically to the left. Im im basically an Old Fashioned liberal, basically. And liberal, basically. And i believe in, you know , biological believe in, you know, biological sex. And i dont believe you can change your you can change your sex. I, i dont believe you can just decide what gender you are and i think you should be able to say that , you know, its not to say that, you know, its not about ideology. Its about about ideology. Its about biological facts. Biological facts. Indeed. So, in fact, is the key word there, henry bolton, because Critical Race Theory is certainly something worth engaging with. There could be elements truth to it, but elements of truth to it, but within the Civil Service and we find in the of education, find in the world of education, often being taught fact i indeed. And its not only within those two institutions, as ive recently discovered that its actually in the nhs. So for its actually in the nhs. So for example, mark, the nhs has something called the leadership academy. And if you want to move into a leadership position within , you have to within the nhs, you have to attend one of their courses. Now attend one of their courses. Now when you actually look at the content of the courses, the presentations that are used in those courses, theres nothing actually about leadership, theres nothing about the Mission Purpose the mission and purpose of the national it is National Health service. It is all diversity. Its about all about diversity. Its about gender equality. Yes, but its gender equality. Yes, but its all of this same agenda that we see now in the Civil Service its exactly the same. Now, of course, thats going to have its a double whammy. First of all, the people who are real leaders, Visionary People who can drive and unite the effort across the staff are going to be turned off by that, having to attend a course which is actually nothing about leadership, but thats whats expected of them. The other expected of them. And the other thing the people whove thing is, so the people whove already got that of already got that sort of orientation that woke orientation that woke orientation are going to be the people who go forward for those leadership their leadership roles. And then their whole is going to be whole worldview is going to be reinforced forced an reinforced, forced by an institutional of emphasis institutional sort of emphasis that actually what you that thats actually what you should doing leader. So should be doing as a leader. So its surprising we see its not surprising we see failures in the if thats failures in the nhs if thats the leadership that the sort of leadership that weve got. Thats the weve got. Thats where the emphasis is. And so, know , emphasis is. And so, you know, none of this is, is established fact. Yes, lets have the debate, lets have the discussion. But i dont believe discussion. But i dont believe that any body is these these are organisations, institutions , organisations, institutions, ones that hold britain together. They provide the glue and the delivery of government. And for delivery of government. And for them to be captured in this way to be pursuing and furthering what is , after all, a political what is, after all, a political agenda , whilst at the same time agenda, whilst at the same time disadvantaging, shutting off, cancelling people who might have a different view quite legitimately, probably a mainstream view indeed they you are undermining earning the integrity of your organisation both in terms of its ability to deliver and in terms of its honesty. And i think thats honesty. And i think thats a fundamental problem when its pubuc fundamental problem when its public services. Mike there is a flip side to this, which that there are this, which is that there are people, far many people in people, far too many people in our who are victims of our society who are victims of races ism and unconscious bias. There are people who are trans, who are also victimised, not acknowledged , or they may have acknowledged, or they may have gender dysphoria. Perhaps these gender dysphoria. Perhaps these courses are there to support these people and perhaps the Civil Servants are right. Civil servants are right. Yeah. Everybody needs supporting. But i think all supporting. But i think all these words weve seen so often over the last few years, i think probably 64. 9 million people. Oh, please, not again. You can see something. So much that you switch off from it , i think, see something. So much that you switch off from it, i think, and you stop being concerned about it. Its like a war zone where they say , you know, theres they say, you know, theres another 24 people were killed and you go, yeah, youve heard it for the last year. It every day for the last year. So you switch off. So it ceases to become important your mind to become important in your mind. And i think a problem. And i think that is a problem calling everyone racist. Right. Shes the power thats right. Shes the power of word. Of that word. The word has been diminished totally. But, i mean, the word has been diminished totally. But, i mean, id like totally. But, i mean, id like to see and i know you would return service of return to the Civil Service of the bowler hat, the umbrella where everyone said good morning and each other. Mister and call each other. Mister did nothing away and nothing all day, went away and stopped running in the country. You go. Stopped running in the country. We you go. Stopped running in the country. We yoteven some women we dont even some women working there. Yeah, definitely not. Theyre not theyre no. Theyre not theyre no. In bowler hats. Just men in bowler hats. Just men in bowler hats. You there you go. There you go. Men mark. Men like mark. Men like mark. Lets. Lets. Lets. Lets have everyone in bowler hats. And the women. Hats. The men and the women. Your reaction our debate. Your reaction to our debate. Mark up next, mark gbnews. Com. Coming up next, the government planning to the government is planning to axe cigarettes. This the axe cigarettes. Is this the nanny state in overdrive and also is an £80 fine for idling the engine of your car justified . Ill be asking tonights newsmaker coronation street, actor and fearless voice of common sense, Charlie Lawson and sparks will fly. Hes. Gb news radio. Well, the Civil Service is now instituted , finally woke now instituted, finally woke a brilliant exclusive from the telegraph newspaper inspired tonights big opinion monologue. The reaction is coming in thick and fast via email. The reaction is coming in thick and fast via email. Lets thick and fast via email. Lets have a look at this. Gordon says the unCivil Service mark. The Civil Service is out of control. This has already happened in local government with all the ulez controls closing roads. Et cetera. These schemes are being implemented by unelected officials. Many without any consultation of the views of the public. Look, how about this from leyton mark, i bet all of these courses are provided by private companies who want to get their sticky fingers into the golden bucket government money. Glynis, whos emailed in and says, mark, theres no such thing as racism. Humans are one race only. There are only three genders. Male, female and her aphrodites hermaphrodite, others do not exist. And last but not least, for now, arthur says hi mark. An exceptionally good piece. During my career in good piece. During my career in the private sector, three times i was given the task of reorganising companies to stop them going under. If we sacked one third of the Civil Service and Public Sector , we would not and Public Sector, we would not nofice and Public Sector, we would not notice difference as regards notice any difference as regards their deliverables. Arthur thank you for that. Keep those emails coming. Mark gbnews. Com now rishi is considering rishi sunak is considering introducing some of the Worlds Toughest anti smoking measures that would in effect, ban the next generation from ever being able to buy cigarettes. This according to the guardian newspaper. Whitehall sources newspaper. Whitehall sources said the pm was looking at measures similar to those brought in by new zealand , which brought in by new zealand, which involved steadily increasing the legal smoking age. So tobacco legal smoking age. So tobacco would end up never being sold to anyone born after 2009. So is this the nanny state in overdrive . Lets ask tonights overdrive . Lets ask tonights newsmaker , former coronation newsmaker, former coronation street star, top actor and fearless voice of common sense, Charlie Lawson. Charlie banning smoking, is this the way forward . And 7 and are 7 and are you 7 and are you doing, mark, you know, youve dragged me away from the rugby, so god bless you, sir. Im not in favour of banning things and im certainly not in favour of governments doing stuff like this. I mean , doing stuff like this. I mean, you know , education. We know we you know, education. We know we know how cigarettes are bad for us and i gave up for 12 years and unfortunate. Finally i started again about a year ago and im attempting to give up again now. And im attempting to give up again now. But banning things doesnt work. People just find ways around it and its just the same that were going through in the last 2 or 3 years. Excuse my french about , the last 2 or 3 years. Excuse my french about, um, government trying to interfere into our lives and. And its really not acceptable. And i cant be doing with it. And most of the normal silent majority in this country think exactly the same thing. You can tell us how bad it is for us. And thats absolutely fine. And incidentally, i asked fine. And incidentally, i asked my two grandchildren who are nine and ten, and i started smoking when i was ten at school because thats what you did. Youd made your hard man , you youd made your hard man, you know what i mean . But they said absolutely no one smokes. And they couldnt see anybody who vaped either. So i dont like banning things. Mark i know how bad it is for you. It is for you. But go away. Sunak and the you. But go away. Sunak and the guardian and all the rest of these people. Stop telling us how to live our lives. How to live our lives. Well, indeed, it seems like since the pandemic, the state has so big for its boots, has got so big for its boots, hasnt it . Hasnt it . Yeah. And i mean , you know, i yeah. And i mean, you know, i cant be doing with all this crap, you know, were all grownups here, and. And these silly little prefects. I call silly little prefects. I call them prefects. Some people might them prefects. Some people might say theyre the theyre extremely ill endowed , if you extremely ill endowed, if you like. Theyre these little , like. Theyre these little, little crap hats and in in in westminster where they cant play westminster where they cant play sports so they turn into prefects and they just annoy you by coming up with stupid little rules. Shut up, go away and rules. Shut up, go away and leave us alone. Charlie. Youre going to have to get off that fence. This is gb news whos. Listen, let me tell you about this story as well get back well before. Before you get back to rugby. A council in west to the rugby. A council in west london is going to fine motorists £80 if theyre caught idung motorists £80 if theyre caught idling their engines. In other words, if theyre caught running their engine whilst not driving long, is this saving the planet . It is. It. Mark excuse my french. Ill tell you what it is. It. Mark excuse my french. Ill tell you what it is. Its ill tell you what it is. Its all these. All these people pandenng all these. All these people pandering to the noise. Climate pandering to the noise. Climate change eco fanatics because theyre very, very clever. These people. Theyre a minority , but people. Theyre a minority, but theyre very good and very noisy. See, this is complete nonsense. Its sadiq khan or whoever it is or anybody else that just want us out of petrol and diesel cars , and theyre pandering to cars, and theyre pandering to the small vote that because they think its vital, its like its, its in the same vein. They know its nonsense , but they know its nonsense, but theyre scared of winding people up and annoying these little pillocks who run around with their flags outside westminster. And its theyre just annoying. Theyre like wasps. Annoying. Theyre like wasps. Its like its very much like i mean, you and i have talked about this before. Exactly the only reason we havent stopped the boats and the only reason we havent stopped. Its not havent stopped. Its not shoplifting. Its called looting. The only reason we havent stopped this is because is we would be called racist or fascist or bigots or whatever. I fascist or bigots or whatever. I mean, ive seen a couple of videos today of the police in southern ireland and police , southern ireland and police, whatever, starting to lay a heavy hand on people. And im delighted and listen , i would delighted and listen, i would encourage look, im going to Say Something controversial here, mark, and its slightly off, think. I think that ship has passed. Yeah but dont switch your engine off. I mean, i was in manchester the other day and andy burnham was ruined. Manchester, you cant drive around and was an absolute. And you know, and absolute joke. And you know, and were pandering to these people who are just annoying little wasps and i just wish that more people and this is the controversy a bit. Mark, i would urge people in the co ops round and Great Britain to get involved. If you see someone involved. If you see someone looting , whack them , look , and i looting, whack them, look, and i know thats controversial. I dont want anybody to attack anyone with a machete. But if you see a gang of children running around the shops nicking stuff , get stuck in, pick them stuff, get stuck in, pick them up and throw them across the counter because otherwise this will just continue. And because people are scared to do things because theyre going to be called or fascists are ruining this country and were doing all about it. About it. Well, listen, i agree with you that we should have a zero tolerance policy to shoplifting, but , charlie, we very rarely but, charlie, we very rarely disagree. I would not lay a disagree. I would not lay a finger on another member of the public. Its only going to get you trouble the law. But you in trouble with the law. But listen , youre entitled your listen, youre entitled to your view. View. I rest my case. Youd be youd be arrested for being a bully and a bigot and a fascist and a racist. There you go , charlie. Ill there you go, charlie. Ill tell you what, mark. Ill. Ill go to court, mate, and ill take the sentence. But if i catch someone in our village co op, nick and bars of soap are nicking boxes of weetabix. Hell be out on his. There you go. There you go. Listen, he doesnt pull his punches quite literally, does our Charlie Lawson . Charlie enjoy the rugby and well catch up soon. There you go. There you go. Top actor, former coronation street star Charlie Lawson. Ive street star Charlie Lawson. Ive got to say, i would not recommend that you touch or manhandle or punch or do anything to somebody that you find shoplifting. What you need to do is go to the manager of the store or the Security Guard and say, listen, ive spotted someone breaking the law, but i wouldnt go down charlies route. This is the home of. But this show is the home of divisive, divisive opinion. No, its not. It is the home of its the home of diverse opinion. And hes entitled to your opinion. Whats yours . Market gbnews. Com. Whats yours . Market gbnews. Com. Heres your weather. That warm feeling inside from boxt boilers proud sponsors of weather on news. Hello there. Welcome to your latest gb news weather forecast. Im craig snell. Well, looking ahead to sunday, very different day sunday, a very different day compared to today. Spells of heavy rain, especially across the half of the uk. The northern half of the uk. Lets all courtesy of this area of low pressure. It will move the area of High Pressure away towards continent , giving towards the continent, giving a very for some of very unsettled day for some of us hang on to the largely us may hang on to the largely settled at times settled conditions at times across the south east. As we across the south east. But as we go tonight , across the south east. But as we go tonight, you can across the south east. But as we go tonight , you can see go into tonight, you can see this gradually this area of rain gradually working across working its way eastwards across many parts of the uk. Heaviest of the rain across scotland, the south east just remaining largely dry with the clearest of the skies. But for all of us, a milder night. Then last night, we will see lows falling much lower than around 10 to 12 degrees. Do start sunday degrees. But we do start sunday off on rather wet note across off on a rather wet note across parts of wales into the midlands , this of will , this area of rain will gradually way gradually work its way northwards as go through the northwards as we go through the course of the day, turning quite heavy northern heavy for parts of Northern Ireland and scotland, a thoroughly come thoroughly wet afternoon to come here, will turn brighter here, but it will turn brighter and across the south. That warm feeling inside , that warm feeling inside, aside from boxt boilers proud sponsors of weather on. Gb news sponsors of weather on. Gb news coming up with the pundits, does the expected cancellation of hs2 beyond birmingham prove that there is still a north south divide . Divide . Thats youre listening to gb news radio. Is the Civil Service now radio. Is the Civil Service now institutionally woke. Institutionally woke. That was the topic of my big opinion on deb, says mark. The Civil Service was always left wing. Even when i was in it many years ago. It comes from complacent c being funded irrespective of economic reality. It should be monitored by groups of taxpayers who are rotated so they cant cosy up to them. So susan says, hi mark. Ive lived in this country for nearly 80 years, but now i feel im living in la la land run by the mad mafia. We have a government thats incapable of organising a teddy bears picnic. Oh, god help us, says sue. Sue, keep the faith. Ill get to more of your emails shortly. Mark at cbnnews. Com. But lets get reaction to the big stories of the day with my top pundits. Of the day with my top pundits. Mike reid, henry bolton and hilary freeman. Now rishi sunak hilary freeman. Now rishi sunak is facing criticism from former Prime Minister Boris Johnson and David Cameron amid speculation hes going to scrap the building of hs2 beyond birmingham. The of hs2 beyond birmingham. The railway line would mean a speedier connection between london and the midlands, but the nonh london and the midlands, but the north would be left out in the cold. So does the potential cancellation of hs2 show that the north south divide is alive and well . Henry im not sure that it does. That it does. What it shows is that government embarked upon a plan to build a railway without a National Infrastructure plan that didnt take account in this respect of the needs of various regions up in the north, up outside the South East London and the south east everything for decades has been focussed on the south east or, you know, all our airport development, our roads development, everything has been focussed on the south east i dont think thats because there is a conscious bias in terms of north south or anything else. I think its because weve increasingly got a nafion because weve increasingly got a nation that is being run by a effectively an urban elite from the south east, and i think thats fundamentally flawed. I think they have no strategic grasp or vision , and the effect grasp or vision, and the effect is that we are starting to create , create a north south create, create a north south divide just by building an increasing gulf between the two. I think im glad that weve weve seen a cut back on hs2. I think it was an ill conceived idea from the beginning. Look, idea from the beginning. Look, this is a country that has failed to build a railway, cant build a fifth runway at heathrow , has no National Infrastructure plan. And whilst weve been sort plan. And whilst weve been sort of scrabbling around all over over that the chinese have built in 1800 Kilometre Railway to move the worlds heaviest bulk trains, moving coal from their coal fields to their coal powered power stations. And powered power stations. And theyve built Something Like 72 airports in the time that weve been arguing about all of this. You know, im not saying we should pursue the sort of authoritarian approach of china, but, for gods sake, but, you know, for gods sake, these are people who things these are people who get things done, and get done, make a decision and get things done. We make a decision in country then in this country and then we faff around weve a civil around and we weve got a Civil Service thats not service saying, well, thats not important. Be worrying important. We should be worrying about is issues and about is, is gender issues and diversity. Were in a real mess diversity. Were in a real mess. My question here in terms of pulling the country together and doing all of these other things where is the leadership in this country . We keep having people country . We keep having people in government and positions of power and authority who are frankly not leaders. They might be managers of some sort, but were supposed to disagree. But we wont disagree. Disagree on im sorry, disagree on that. Im sorry, mike, a bona fide mike, you are a bona fide northerner. Northerner. Do you think the cancellation of hs2 beyond birmingham and also insufficient levelling up funds in the north demonstrate there is still a divide . I was born in the north, but i grew up in the south. That was all. So im a bit of both. Its in your blood for both camps. Im it is, but no, im not sure it is, but no, i mean, it was always a crazy scheme. The cost spiralled and spiralled and spiralled. And this idea of getting to birmingham quicker birmingham 50 minutes quicker when doing it. When everyones doing it. In case anyone misheard you, 15 which is a marginal 15 minutes, which is a marginal gain, isnt it marginal . Gain, isnt it marginal . Its marginal, but plus your marginal izing. All the towns around it. Because if people are doing that, youre not only decimating villages, decimating ancient woodland , youre ancient woodland, youre marginalising a lot of the towns around it as well. We spent a fortune on this and weve also given 800 million to turkey to build a railway. Yeah were obviously keen on building railways arent we . Yeah. Brunel has a lot to answer for. Railways arent we . Yeah. Brunel has a lot to answer for. Yeah. Has a lot to answer for. Yeah. I mean, to say on that, i mean folkestone when they built the through , the eurotunnel through, everybody sort of knew folkestone because the ferries went there. Yes. But live there and yes. But now i live there and folkestone just starting to folkestone is just starting to recover from the building of the tunnel because from that point on then folkestone was bypassed exactly as you said. And its exactly as you said. And its had poverty problems ever since and crime problems. And so on. Yeah. Too. Right. Fair point. Hillary will we ever be one country or is the north south divide permanent . South divide permanent . I think its probably permanent. And i think the way things are going, were going to be scotland and wales as be losing scotland and wales as well. I think be losing scotland and wales as well. I think in a way, london is almost like a place in itself now away from the rest of the country. I think, you know, its country. I think, you know, its so different from anywhere else. Yes. And values and opinions are different in london to elsewhere. And that might be an issue, for example, with this generation of politicians that theyre in a london bubble, which is why they keep being surprised by various and many of the outcomes like brexit or the big outcomes like brexit or bofisin the big outcomes like brexit or boris in 2019. The big outcomes like brexit or borwell,2019. The big outcomes like brexit or borwell, exactly. Well, exactly. Well, exactly. But then, you know, bringing bnngin but then, you know, bringing bring in labour because theyve got some other but i mean thats the thats the biggest london bubble isnt it. Bubble of all isnt it. Party. The labour party. The labour party. Know. Angela well i dont know. Angela rayner sadiq khan. Rayner and sadiq khan. Yeah. Yeah. Khan islington loving keir starmer. Fascinating. Well look , what do you think . Do we still have north south divide . Have a north south divide . Is the cancellation of the potential cancellation of hs2 north of birmingham. Proof of that market . Vaiews gbnews. Com coming up in my take at ten, prince charming has been cancelled from cinderella on the grounds of sexism. When will the war on masculinity end . Thats going to be my take at ten. But first, my mark meets guest is the world renowned professor with the key to its interview to happiness. Its an interview that might just change your life. And thats. Next coming up in my take at ten, ill be dealing with the woke nutcases who have decided to cancel prince charming from the cinderella story because its sexist. Why is it now a crime to sexist. Why is it now a crime to be a man . Well discuss that at 10 00. Im not pulling my punches. In fact, i might demonstrate a bit of toxic masculinity, lots to get through. But first, mark meets. And tonight, a man who is fast becoming one of the best known pubuc becoming one of the best known public intellectuals in the world. Professor gad saad, professor of marketing at Concordia University in montreal, canada. Hes also an montreal, canada. Hes also an evolutionary behaviour scientist, author and host of the sad truth podcast , which has the sad truth podcast, which has 7 million downloads since its launch in 2020. His fourth book is the one that really put him on the map. The parasitic mind. How infectious ideas are killing common sense , and his much common sense, and his much anticipated latest book is out now. Here it is. And it is now. Here it is. And it is called the sad truth about happiness is eight secrets for leading the good life. If leading the good life. If professor saad, welcome to mark dolan tonight out now, is it possible to define what happiness is. Possible to define what happiness is. Can happiness be defined . I define it. Is that it . It i define it. Is that it . It canindeed. I define it. Is that it . It can indeed. And so i dont look can indeed. And so i dont look at happiness as a short term dopamine hit. Right . You can buy a maserati and feel happy, but thats not what im talking about. Im talking about the long term serotonin sense of contentment. Youre sitting on your proverbial porch when youre 85. You look around and youre 85. You look around and you say, i think ive lived a really good, purposeful, meaningful life. So its in that meaningful life. So its in that sense that im defining happiness now. Brilliant stuff. God apologies in advance. There apologies in advance. There might be a slight delay on the line, but we will persevere. If line, but we will persevere. If my viewers and listeners are seeking happiness based upon the ideasin seeking happiness based upon the ideas in your book, wheres the best place to start . Best place to start . So the two decisions that are most likely to impart great happiness or great misery upon you are actually quite obvious ones. Number one, choose the right spouse. If the person that you wake up next to in bed in the morning and the one you return to in bed at night is someone you like, a someone that you like, thats a good thing. And if whatever happensin good thing. And if whatever happens in between those two points, is your job, if points, which is your job, if that one gives you purpose and meaning , then youre well on meaning, then youre well on your being happy your way to being a happy person. Like, person. And if youd like, i could break down what some of the that you should the decisions that you should look when youre pursuing look for when youre pursuing those goals be, if those two goals might be, if youd those two goals might be, if youwell, absolutely. Those two goals might be, if youlets absolutely. Those two goals might be, if youlets start lutely. Those two goals might be, if youlets start lutelthe spouse. Lets start with the spouse. I mean, im very lucky, mrs. Dolan improved upon. Dolan cannot be improved upon. But what are the factors but yeah, what are the factors that the right spouse . That make the right spouse . So there are two opposing maxims in evolutionary psychology. One is the opposites attract maxim, the other one is the birds of a feather flock together maxim and it turns out , mark, that if youre interested in maximising your chances of long term success of your marriage, its overwhelmingly see the birds of a feather flock together. Maxim thatis a feather flock together. Maxim that is the operative one. Now, you might then ask , well, you might then ask, well, flocking on which feathers. And flocking on which feathers. And here were looking at having shared Belief Systems shared , shared Belief Systems shared, shared, foundational principles of how to conduct our lives. If of how to conduct our lives. If i am someone who is rooted deeply in my faith and my prospective partner is someone whos a caustic atheist , well, whos a caustic atheist, well, it doesnt take a fancy evolutionary psychologist to argue that were starting on the wrong foot. And so if you can assort on these important values, boy, does it increase your chances of having a happy marriage. Marriage. And how about those steps to the right job, the right vocation . I mean i think youll vocation . I mean i think youll youll agree, professor saad, youre not going to get the perfect career overnight. Perfect job or career overnight. But again , what are the right but again, what are the right factors for . Factors to look out for . Yeah. So to the extent that its possible to do so , i argue its possible to do so, i argue that there are two key metrics. Number one, any job that allows you to instantiate your creative impulse so you could be a chef or a stand up comic or an author or a stand up comic or an author or an architect , each of those or an architect, each of those professions, while very different from each other, they share one thing in common. They create something anew, something that wasnt there until you came along and you created it. And that automatically gives you purpose and. And meaning. The second one, i would argue that really helps toward occupational happiness is anything that grants you temporal freedom. So i work very, very long hours , i work very, very long hours, but i truly am a master of my schedule. I can vagabond to a coffee shop, sit there for four hours thinking about my next book. Theni hours thinking about my next book. Then i can go off and jog for an hour. Then i can return and do Something Else thats meaningful. Contrast that to someone who has a union mandated time as to when they can take a to break go to the bathroom. And so to the extent that you could instantiate your creative impulse and have temporal freedom while doing so , youre freedom while doing so, youre well on your way to being happy i well come back to the book, which sounds absolutely fascinating. Youve appeared nine times on the brilliant joe rogan podcast railing against Political Correctness or woke as its now known. Where do you its now known. Where do you think woke comes from, professor, and what is the end game . Game . Right. So in my previous book, as you kindly pointed in the pointed to in my in the introduction , the parasitic introduction, the parasitic mind, i argue that human brains can be parasitic by a set of ideas, pathogen is postmodernism, cultural relativism, radical feminist ism. Each of these idea pathogens. Regrettably i say regrettably because im a professor, were all spawned within the universe city ecosystem around 5060 years ago. And then it took a while for these dreadful parasitic ideas to proliferate out of academia. And now theyre part of every nook and cranny of society. And nook and cranny of society. And so in the book, i actually , so in the book, i actually, toward the end of the book, offer a mind vaccine inoculation against these dreadful ideas. Now , thats a vaccine we can now, thats a vaccine we can all get behind and is radical leftism a pathology . Is there something wrong with these ultra woke people . Well i think what if im going to be charitable . This is how i might give them a bit of a leeway. So i think many of these parasitic ideas start off with a noble cause, but then in the service of the pursuit of that noble cause, they then murder and rape truth example equity. Feminism is a great idea. We should all be equal under the law. Most people would say yes , sign me up. Im would say yes, sign me up. Im an equity feminist. Would say yes, sign me up. Im an equity feminist. Then radical an equity feminist. Then radical feminists come along and say, well, in the pursuit of eradicating the sexist , eradicating the sexist, patriarchal status quo , we now patriarchal status quo, we now have to argue that men and women are indistinguishable from each other. There are no innate biological differences between men and women. And so in the service of an otherwise lofty goal service of an otherwise lofty goal, they end up murdering truth. So i dont think thats necessarily a dispositional pathology, but its a consequence socialist ethos that says , i want to do good in the says, i want to do good in the world and if i have to murder truth, so be it. Can wokeism be defeated. Can wokeism be defeated. Can wokeism be defeated. It can in number one by reading the parasitic mind and by number two, really implementing an ethos of critical thinking. So in the book, i explain how you construct arguments when youre facing hostile crowds. So, for example , if im trying to example, if im trying to convince you that toy preferences have a sex specified necessity, that is innate, its not a social construction, how would i go about doing that . Well, i can show you data from across species , across animals, across species, across animals, across species, across animals, across time periods that speaks to that reality. So i dont have to that reality. So i dont have to be emotional. I dont have to to be emotional. I dont have to be hysterical. I dont have to scream louder than you. I build scream louder than you. I build you the nomological network of cumulative evidence and hopefully i convince you of the veracity of my position. Professor, briefly , if you professor, briefly, if you can, you were born in beirut, in the lebanon. Your family fled to canada in the seconds to escape the the mid seconds to escape the civil war. How has your early life and your background shaped the man that you are today . The man that you are today . Yeah, thank you. Great question. Most directly , it question. Most directly, it showed me that when you organise a society along tribal lines, it never works out well. Lebanon is organised around religious membership and progressivism seeks to also create a society where everybody is autonomous , where everybody is autonomous, atomised, atomised into different groups. Nothing good comes from that. Whats great about the west is that we have individual dignity. I am god at first, then im lebanese. First, then im lebanese. Second, a privilege to have you on the show. Weve got two books to plug. First of all, weve got the parasitic mind, which is your best seller, and International Best seller. Translate it into many languages and your latest tome, which looks to me to be an absolute must read. Ill be buying a copy and here it is. It is called the sad truth about happiness. So a packed hour to come. Those packed hour to come. Those papers are on the way. But first, my take. At ten prince first, my take. At ten prince charming from fairy tales like cinderella and Sleeping Beauty is the latest victim of cancel culture. Uk tennis ace emma raducanu. Culture. Uk tennis ace emma raducanu. A fantastic talent has raducanu. A fantastic talent has been reading politically correct updated versions of these classic stories in which in the new version, cinderella is a successful businesswoman who designed her own sports shoe. Designed her own sports shoe. Isnt she clever . Rapunzel is a property mogul from renting out her tower and Sleeping Beauty becomes rich from interest it earned during her 100 year long sleep. Sounds a bit like raducanu, who earns a reported £12 million a year without playing much tennis. £12 million a year without playing much tennis. Do we need playing much tennis. Do we need rewritten fairy tales to tell women that they can do what the hell they want and achieve great things . Far be it from me to speak for womankind , but i speak for womankind, but i personally find it extraordinarily patronising to women. You go girl. You can start a business and everything. Did margaret thatcherjk rowling or taylor swift need these little pep talks . The updated books are rebranded from fairy tales to fairy tales. Pass me tales to fairy tales. Pass me the sick bag fairy tales, a term which echoes the tedious progressive grift that everyone is either a victim or an oppressor. The victim in this case, poor little , delicate case, poor little, delicate women who need this condescending propaganda and who need need to be protected from the ultimate enemy. The opposite sex. Look, i support the messaging of the stories. I dont have daughters , but if dont have daughters, but if i did, id be telling them every nanosecond to get out there and conquer the world. But not only does this prevailing mentality of victimhood belittle the protected class, in this case women , it creates an enemy, women, it creates an enemy, a culprit, a persecutor , an culprit, a persecutor, an enslaver. And in these books, its men. Why does female its men. Why does female emancipation come at the price of demonising half the population . Well thats the woke dynamic. You have the good guys dynamic. You have the good guys and the bad guys. The bad guys these days, being blokes , this these days, being blokes, this man hating narrative is the soup du jour of the modern modern world. With Even Companies like gillette, whose Customer Base is predominantly male, making an advert attacking the people that buy their razors for having so called toxic masculinity. So called toxic masculinity. Now, i will grant you the original fairy tales are, of course , Old Fashioned, and course, Old Fashioned, and i dont think anyone even believes that a kiss from a handsome prince or his hand in marriage is the answer to any modern womans problems. Although with womans problems. Although with house prices the way they are, id kiss anyone to live in a castle. But when we read the original stories and no doubt radacanu read them as a child, we dont take them literally. These are ancient tales of love, of magic and of fantasy. These are ancient tales of love, of magic and of fantasy. Theyre of magic and of fantasy. Theyre not charged with social messaging. They werent written with the aim of fixing the worlds problems or correcting wrongthink. And i think its wrongthink. And i think its a bit harsh on poor old prince charming to be dumped in this way. And what kind of messaging is it to young girls growing up that men are bad and that women dont need them . What is this . We all need each other. Men need men. Men need women. Women need men. Men need women. Women need men. Women need women. Welcome men. Women need women. Welcome to the clown world of 2023. Where i have to point that out and i wont take any lectures from hsbc who are behind this advert , but id love to know how advert, but id love to know how many territories in the world they do business with that persecute women and give them no rights whatsoever for as well as mortgages. Bank loans and savings accounts. Eye watering savings accounts. Eye watering double standards is what these corporations specialise in, and id love to know what the policy is. The corporate policy of hsbc is. The corporate policy of hsbc is in relation to biological, intact men who call themselves women participating in female sports , tennis even, and sports, tennis even, and breaking all records when International Banks become the good guys, i suggest you run for the hills. Im going to big up cinderella Sleeping Beauty and rapunzel, but im going to big up prince charming to prince charming is pretty useful on an oil rig. Hes pretty good at laying out fresh tarmac on a motorway at three in the morning in torrential rain. Prince in torrential rain. Prince charming is pretty useful going underground and clearing out sewers, building skyscrapers , sewers, building skyscrapers, laying cables in the sea and toiling in coal mines. Laying cables in the sea and toiling in coal mines. Oh, and toiling in coal mines. Oh, and prince charming was pretty useful fighting for democracy , useful fighting for democracy, freedom and the territorial boundanes freedom and the territorial boundaries of this country. In two world wars. Its time to end two world wars. Its time to end this ideology. War on men. This this ideology. War on men. This woke rewrite of cinderella is ugly. Sister. And what do you think . Mark gb news. Com of course. Emma raducanu who a fantastic tennis player. Very talented person. Perhaps she would argue that those traditional stories suggest that a man is the answer to a happy life, that all a handsome prince has got to do is give you a kiss. And youve achieved everything wrong. Given that shes very accomplished and shes very accomplished and shes just young herself, she might argue the messaging might argue that the messaging of those original stories is very backward and not inspire airing, and perhaps she just wants to move that along. She wants to move that along. She wants to move that along. She wants inspire the next wants to inspire the next generation of women to not be reliant on men and get out there and conquer the world. But i just dont like the message underneath all of this. I underneath all of this. And i wont take lectures from wont take any lectures from hsbc, but what do you think market cbnnews. Com. Ill get to your emails shortly, but tonights pundits are going tonights top pundits are going tonights top pundits are going to mike reid, henry to weigh in. Mike reid, henry bolton and hilary freeman. Hilary, let me start with you. Your reaction to cinderella 2. 0. She doesnt need men. Well, actually , i think well, actually, i think youve got it a bit wrong. Sorry to say. Youre talking about men are never wrong, never. When are never wrong, never. When youre talking youre talking about the disneyfied version of the fairy tales, the actual fairy tales themselves. Its not about the prince coming and saving the princess and making everything all right. And women needing men. Its not that. If needing men. Its not that. If you actually look at the story , you actually look at the story, shes actually its women who are in control of nearly all of those stories. Its the witch who puts the curse on the princess. Its gretel who saves hansel and outwits the witch and pushes her into the fire and kills her. Its Red Riding Hood who outwits the big bad wolf. You know, its. And the princes are pretty much just passive. They come along and they kiss the princess because theyre drawn too , not because they have drawn too, not because they have any kind of agency. So actually, any kind of agency. So actually, i think i dont actually think that fairy tales are about that at all. Well, there you go. Glad that youve actually im glad that youve actually spoken originals and spoken up for the originals and that the female that really its the female characters that are the dominant ones, the protagonists. Do you think the young girls need these new storylines that suggest that you can run a business or become a sort of property mogul, all the rest of it, because i think its patronising. Patronising. Well, i think its patronising in the form of an advert from from hsbc. But i do think sadly, that those messages are important because girls still all are, you know, not not believing in themselves in a lot of cases. You know, my daughter of cases. You know, my daughter came home from school once and said, is it true that boys are better than girls , that boys are better than girls, that boys are cleverer than girls . So those messages are still out there and girls still women still dont earn as much as men. There is still a gender pay gap. So actually, you know, do think actually, you know, i do think its women do its important that women do get those. But dont those messages. But i dont think know, kissing the think you know, kissing the prince is most girls aspiration anymore. Well we can agree, hilary, im just going to understandably give you little understandably give you a little bit airtime this. Bit more airtime on this. Absolutely. You know, i want absolutely. You know, i want like i said, if i had daughters, id out there and id say get out there and conquer become prime conquer the world, become Prime Minister, any minister, be the ceo of any company that you want to. But it just feels the narrative of this and the idea of women dont need men. Girls dont need men. It feels like , again, a sort of feels like, again, a sort of narrative that men are bad at. Well, is it that girls dont need men . Is it just that girls dont need to be kissed by a handsome prince . Maybe you know, thats that isnt that isnt all there is to life. We dont just need marriage. We dont want the happy ever after. We want an equal relationship. And we want happy ever after. We want an eq be relationship. And we want happy ever after. We want an eq be equalonship. And we want happy ever after. We want an eq be equal withp. And we want happy ever after. We want an eq be equal with ourknd we want happy ever after. We want an eq be equal with our with ve want happy ever after. We want an eq be equal with our with with|nt to be equal with our with with the both want to the prince. And we both want to rule the kingdom. You know, if you want use that analogy. You want to use that analogy. But reid, why do these but mike reid, why do these stories expense of but mike reid, why do these storiethat expense of but mike reid, why do these storiethat men expense of but mike reid, why do these storiethat men are expense of but mike reid, why do these storiethat men are somehowf but mike reid, why do these storiethat men are somehow the bad men that men are somehow the bad guy or the scapegoat . Guy or the scapegoat . Yeah. I mean , its you know, yeah. I mean, its you know, i id like to see a pantomime with a line. You know, its with a line. You know, its behind you. What common sense really . I mean, there are bloke really . I mean, there are bloke heroes here as well. Dick whittington, of course, is a hero , jack and his beans. But hero, jack and his beans. But theyre fairy tales. They are theyre fairy tales. They are fairy tales. Theyre not reality tales. Theyre designed to take you out of yourself into another area, not into an area of reality. You go to escape. That reality. You go to escape. That is escapism. Thats ive been in a couple of pantomimes and its fun. You know, ive done them with basil brush , you know, what with basil brush, you know, what can you say there . Basil and i were on equal terms. There was were on equal terms. There was no there was no fight. There was no there was no fight. There was no you know , you should be a fox no you know, you should be a fox or anything like that. You know, or anything like that. You know, its just fun. Kids go along to its just fun. Kids go along to have fun. I mean , this have fun. I mean, this moralistic changing of pantomimes of enid blyton and things like that. I think is pathetic. I mean, you cant rewrite history. I mean , you rewrite history. I mean, you know, its the old the moving finger write and having moves on, you know, leave it where it is. If you want to write something new and Something Different fine. Not different that is fine. Why not leave history and why change history or try to change history . Why not write something new . Well, entirely new if you want to. Now youre talking. Its a bit like making james bond woke , isnt it . Henry . Let me defend hsbc by suggesting theyve commissioned this advert because they to inspire the next they want to inspire the next generation of female entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurs. I just dont i dont accept that hsbc are getting on the woke bandwagon. And there is no woke bandwagon. And there is no no question about that. I mean, why are they doing this . Really . Why are they doing this . Really . Its not gaining them custom. Its not gaining them custom. Its not gaining them custom. Its just gaining them. What they like to establish as moral high ground. And weve got a situation in society now where actually nobody very few people except on this channel and some rare other places actually say, well , hang on rare other places actually say, well, hang on a minute, this just where is as mike says, where has the common sense gone . I mean , its just not there. And i mean, its just not there. And these fairy tales , they were these fairy tales, they were exactly that. And some of them did originate in this did not originate in this country. They originated in other and germany and other countries and germany and the black forest and and the black forest and so on. And they were they stories is they were they were stories is to really grasp the imagination of children , to train their of children, to train their imagination, take them into another world to and really make them give them some wonderment in the world. They didnt have television and so on. And thats all now being dismantled and abused by people who frankly got abused by people who frankly got a very boring, dull and nonsense, nonsensical agenda. Okay, well, listen , okay, well, listen, fascinating. What do you think about that market . Newscom nenne. Next up is joe biden about to be replaced by Michelle Obama in the race for the white house in 2024 . Well be asking the queen of us showbiz, royal and political reporting , kinsey political reporting, Kinsey Schofield. Thats radio. Its time now for us news with the queen of american showbiz royal and political reporting , showbiz royal and political reporting, kinsey showbiz royal and political reporting , Kinsey Schofield. Reporting, Kinsey Schofield. Apologies kinsey. Its going to be a tight one tonight. But lets talk about joe biden. Could he be replaced by a rather famous first lady . Now if you bear with me for one moment, weve just lost the sound to kinsey. But weve just lost the sound to kinsey. But this weve just lost the sound to kinsey. But this is a weve just lost the sound to kinsey. But this is a rather fascinating idea, isnt it, the idea that joe biden is now so old and decrepit, hes 80, that actually the democrats as an organisation, as a group, will prevent him from running in a years time and bring in a superstar candidate. And that would be Michelle Obama. What do you think about that . Well, its the topic of a text poll that weve been putting out the weve been putting out in the course of the day. Bring course of the day. Ill bring you of that very you the results of that very shortly. Like to shortly. But would you like to see another obama in the white house . Margaret gbnews. Com. House . Margaret gb news. Com. Whilst house . Margaret gbnews. Com. Whilst we reconnect it with kinsey . Lets have a look at your response to the fact that prince charming has been cancelled by a new woke up date of cinderella. Maggie says bravo to your take at ten mark. Im sick of society trying to set people up to fail by putting square pegs into round holes , square pegs into round holes, telling us that men are women and that theyre interchangeable. They are not. Theyre supposed to be complementary. And yes , whats complementary. And yes, whats wrong with the happy, married, happy marriage ending . Its what we , isnt it . Well, we want, isnt it . Well, margaret, it seems to be. Thats what want to have. Now, what we did want to have. Now, how about this feminised britain, says peter. The downside women are largely risk averse, genetically inclined to seek security above all considerations. So there you go. Considerations. So there you go. This is an interesting angle there, a societal response, a psychological response from. Psychological response from. Peter how about this man bashing 7 peter how about this man bashing . Howard says mark, since the 90s with the spice girls banging on about girl power, weve heard nothing but female empower isnt the first woman to do this or that. The first woman to do this or that. And increased profile for that. And increased profile for women doing everything most recently sport. The lionesses. There are women at the top of every part of our society and theyve got the upper hand, says howard. Okay well, look, somebody that always has the upper hand is Kinsey Schofield and kinsey. Apologies. We had an issue there with with the line. Tell me about this rather illustrious rival to joe biden in the form of one Michelle Obama. Obama. Oh, isnt it so scandalous, mark . Yeah, thats right. These mark . Yeah, thats right. These claims were made by senator ted cruz during an episode of his verdict with ted cruz podcast. He says in august of 2020 for the democrat kingmakers will give biden the boot and parachute in. Michelle obama. He stresses that this is a very serious danger to. And while the daily mail refers to his claims as a baseless theory , see, mark, as a baseless theory, see, mark, i think you and i have had this conversation before on this very show. I have heard whispers of this strategy for the last six months or more. I think its a very realistic option for the democratic party. They are democratic party. They are desperate and there are not a lot of options. Weve discussed, lot of options. Weve discussed, you know , governor gavin newsom you know, governor gavin newsom. But look at the state of california. Ted cruz goes into california. Ted cruz goes into a elizabeth warren. I dont think that there i think thats a long shot as well. She is shot as well. She is a polarising figure. And i just think that Michelle Obama might be their hail mary. Well, indeed. So, i mean , well, indeed. So, i mean, look, shes a very articulate person. Shes a bestselling author. Shes a great public speaker. I author. Shes a great public speaker. I quite admire Michelle Obama. Shes got a masculine obama. Shes got a masculine energy, hasnt she . Shes really got balls. Got balls. Im not going there, mark. No i think that she does have a lot of people on both sides that admire her and respect her. But i do think that what we need is a leader that brings both parties together. And i dont think that the last name obama is going to do that. Brilliant. Really quick one, just a few seconds, if you could. A strong, muscly men are in trouble. Whats going. On are trouble. Whats going. On are they in trouble . No, theres a theres a new report out. This is coming from the new york post, but its a there you go. But its actually an instructor from the university of arkansas saying that if you are kind of built tough, then you likely are a conservative. I think its great news because that means that there are plenty of options for beautiful women that like sensible men. Theres plenty of sensible men. Theres plenty of opfions sensible men. Theres plenty of options for marriage. There well, im pleased to hear it. So im a wimp. That probably makes me woke. Kinsey. I wish we makes me woke. Kinsey. I wish we had much longer had longer. Well do much longer next out kinseys next week. Do check out kinseys brilliant podcast. Its called to die for daily, which is also the brilliant royal the name of her brilliant royal website. Ive got the times. Ive got the independent. Keir starmer, the Prime Minister for hs2, rejoining the eu. Its all happening. Minister for hs2, rejoining the eu. Its all happening. Full eu. Its all happening. Full pundh eu. Its all happening. Full pundit reaction. Dont go anywhere. Radio. It is exactly 1030. Its time now for your front pages. Okay now for your front pages. Okay there we are. Now lets have a look at the sunday telegraph and it actually came up in our earlier chat. The axe looms over hs2 after earlier chat. The axe looms over hsz after £8,000,000,000 earlier chat. The axe looms over hs2 after £8,000,000,000 billion cost shock rishi sunak could scrap the second half of hs2 as soon as this week after an £8 billion increase in costs. Put the scheme on course to wipe out the scheme on course to wipe out the budget for other transport projects. Mr sunak and the chancellor, jeremy hunt , are chancellor, jeremy hunt, are expected to meet early this week to finalise plans to scrap phase two of the troubled railway line from birmingham to the north. A whitehall source has told the telegraph if there is a reluctance to throw good money after bad, sunak will rip up green rules to build 140,000 new homes , a government source has homes, a government source has told the telegraph that the Prime Minister was absolutely determined to scrap eu derived regulations that are blocking construction, despite opposition from labour and the governments own environmental quangos. Downing street is understood to be drawing up plans for a new bill that would allow the government to ditch nutrient neutrality rules by using the tories majority to drive the legislation through parliament at gender critical Civil Servants were called. Thats servants were called. Thats also in the sunday telegraph. That was the topic of my big opinion monologue, which you can catch up on on twitter at gb news. Sunday times now sunak revives plans to slash inheritance tax. The prime inheritance tax. The Prime Minister is drawing up plans to cut inheritance tax , which his cut inheritance tax, which his officials have dubbed the most hated tax in britain, cutting the levy before eventually abolishing it is one of a raft of crowd pleasing policy announcements being considered before next months conservative party conference. As part of his pledge for a slate of long term decisions designed to change britain , sunak would frame the britain, sunak would frame the policy as an aspirational offer to voters inheritance tax is charged at 40 on estates worth more than £325,000. Former bbc bosses face fresh Russell Brand questions and Firearms Officers hand back guns after colleagues murder charge. The independent murder charge. The independent now. Tory big beasts turn on pms insane plan to scrap hs2. Rishi sunak is facing open revolt over hs2 from key advisers Business Leaders and the top of his own party. See this in the contest of speculation that the Prime Minister is going to scrap the new part of hs2, which goes from birmingham to the north of england. So sunday express pm takes fight to starmer rishi sunak to put labour leader on the spot after public backs tory shift on net zero. The pm is drawing up a wave of eye catching announcements aimed at boosting his partys popularity and exploiting Keir Starmers weaknesses. The pm will throw weaknesses. The pm will throw caution to the wind by entering policy areas where he believes his opponent will fear to tread, including, as youve just heard, inheritance tax is the observer sunak pushes to axe hs2 link ahead of tory conference. Biden to send long range missiles to ukraine daily star sunday space boffins exclusive. Theres a boffins exclusive. Theres a nasty whiff from uranus that woke mike reid up. Super telescope sniffs out alien farts. Astro boffins are building. Astro boffins are building a super sensitive intergalactic telescope which can detect methane gas given off by alien gusts on planets as far away as uranus and beyond. And there you uranus and beyond. And there you go. Youve got it with a little clothes peg on his nose saying he who smelt it dealt it. He who smelt it dealt it. Speaking of which , lets now speaking of which, lets now speak to three old farts. Oh , wow. Oh, wow. Oh, wow. Not lovely, hillary. Ive got the brilliant three good friends of mine. I just, of course, delighted to have broadcasting legend mike read , top political legend mike read, top political commentator and former leader of ukip, the president of the Primrose League, henry bolton. And author and journalist and agony, aunt hilary freeman. So folks , lots of stories here. It folks, lots of stories here. It does seem that the Prime Minister is going to axe the next leg of hs2. Could we could next leg of hs2. Could we could we take that as a given now . Because it does. Look, the sunday telegraph got the ear sunday telegraph has got the ear of i think sunday telegraph has got the ear of can ithink sunday telegraph has got the ear of can say i think sunday telegraph has got the ear of can say henry i think sunday telegraph has got the ear of can say henry bolton. 1ink we can say henry bolton. Think we can say that and i think we can say that and i think say that indeed think we can say that indeed thats to happen. Is it a thats going to happen. Is it a goodidea . I thats going to happen. Is it a good idea . I think at this stage, yes, is. What really stage, yes, it is. What really concerns me, though, and you know, below that is the thing about the 140,000 new homes, theres a real lack of Government Strategy here. There has been for a very long time. And one can blame the Civil Service and so on an extent. Service and so on to an extent. But ultimately , its failure but ultimately, its a failure of leadership in my of strategic leadership in my view. , hs2 was badly view. You know, hs2 was badly conceived. Its been its had problem after problem after problem after problem after problem. Um, the cost increase problem. Um, the cost increase after cost increase after cost increase. And now, frankly, i increase. And now, frankly, i think, you know, a line up to birmingham thats going to say 15 minutes. I mean really do we need spend this money on. Need to spend this money on. Does spark a tory civil war does this spark a tory civil war because youve got the independents saying that many top are not happy about this. David cameron wont be happy and Boris Johnson be happy. Itll be interesting to see where those dividing Division Lines tory party lines come and the tory party conference, youll see other things as well, im things coming up as well, im sure, will sort of create sure, which will sort of create other splits. But it i think that there is a civil war coming of some sort within the conservative party anyway. Youve got the centre right who want to bring back democracy to the party and then youve got a very, very liberal wing of the conservative party, you know , conservative party, you know, the Tory Reform Group call themselves the home of liberals in the conservative party and theresa may announced last week that she was woke indeed. So so there you have it. And so i do not see, i suspect that on the on the present trajectory, at least the conservative party will lose the next election. And i think that will will trigger a serious discussion, debate fight within the conservative party where that will fall , how that where that will fall, how that will work out, i dont know. But will work out, i dont know. But i think that ultimately if the conservative party has got a future, its got to bring back democracy within party. Its democracy within the party. Its got some visionary got to find some real visionary leadership. Its got to define what is and its what conservatives is and its got deal with sort of got to deal with this sort of inefficiency and including the housing thing. And briefly, given that youre come to that, youre will come to that, definitely youre definitely given that youre a former a National Former leader of a national party, whats your appraisal of where sunak is it looks to me that hes shifting to the right i he is, but m he is, but first of all, if he wants to keep his entire party together, he is not going to be able to shift very far to the right. And i dont think hes going to be able to satisfy the people on the centre right, because i dont think going because i dont think hes going to to shift enough to be able to shift far enough for things such as hs2, for that. On things such as hs2, such as the, the, the, the, the welfare side of things and his fiscal policy. I just dont think he can do it. The what i had to do with ukip was accept that if i won the leadership we were to going lose 6000 members overnight because they were the hardcore anti islam , hardcore anti islam, anti immigration people. And we did. But that was used against me. I was prepared to take that loss because it was the only thing that could make the party governable. And at the end of the believe in the day, i dont believe that in its present format, its broad church format. The conservative party is really governable. Party is really governable. Interesting stuff. Well, mike reid , what about that story reid, what about that story highlighted by henry there . Sunak will rip up green rules to build 140,000 new homes. Yeah , as long as theres not yeah, as long as theres not on watery land. I mean, we forget that trees take out 8000 gallons a day. Absolutely. And if you take out hundreds and hundreds of trees , youre going hundreds of trees, youre going to get marshy land, youre going to get marshy land, youre going to. Thats happened to get problems. Thats happened in a lot of places. To get problems. Thats happened in sot of places. To get problems. Thats happened in so i of places. To get problems. Thats happened in so i think|ces. To get problems. Thats happened in so i think some of is to so i think some of this is to do rules water do with rules around Water Pollution in which are eu denved pollution in which are eu derived rules, which the Prime Minister hopes to tear up with new legislation. A hell of a lot of rules to tear up because there are a hell of a lot of them. Eu rules. Theyre massive. I mean. Mean the british mean. I mean the british constitution bad enough, but constitution is bad enough, but eu me. But eu rules. Oh my goodness me. But i think going back to that north south dont think it south divide, i dont think it is. I think south divide, i dont think it is. I think railway stopping is. I think the railway stopping of that. I think is. I think the railway stopping of that. I think henry is of is not that. I think henry is probably a probably right. Its more a conservative insider past present divide rather than anything else. But i really feel sorry for trainspotters north of birmingham because they are going to be seriously deprived now. Correct yeah. Well, those are your big worry. Yeah. They thought. Big worry. Yeah. They thought. They thought christmas was. I may very briefly this 140,000 houses. I mean weve got a net immigration at the moment of 606,000 and legal. 606,000 and thats legal. Thats legal immigration. Thats legal immigration. Correct. So thats correct. And so thats placing huge demand on this sort of thing. The second is of thing. The second thing is its rules that need its not just eu rules that need deaung its not just eu rules that need dealing with, its our own planning regulations, which are absolutely chaotic and being abused by developers and local authorities alike. Theres a authorities alike. Theres a serious piece of work to do there. I go back to the leadership and the lack of strategic leadership and the lack of strelagic youre right. He has i think youre right. He has become , hasnt he . Become action man, hasnt he . Now, hes hes obviously now, sunak, hes hes obviously decided its time for action. Stop hs2, step breach. Stop hs2, step into the breach. You know, once more unto the breach. Friends. More breach. Dear friends. Once more. Now. Hes actually doing it now. Because the last year he because for the last year he said , my priority is stopping said, my priority is stopping the boats and he hasnt given macron 500 million to stop the boats and he hasnt. Macron 500 million to stop the boats and he hasnt. So now boats and he hasnt. So now i think if i dont think hes deciding if i dont do something, if i dont look like action, man, its going like action, man, its all going to apart. To fall apart. Yeah. Keir starmer hillary has a bit of a had a bit of a challenging week. Overheard saying wanted to stick saying that he wanted to stick with regulator actions, hes with eu regulator actions, hes now furiously denied it. With eu regulator actions, hes now furiously denied it. Hes also said this week i dont want the uk to rejoin the eu, but thats a bit like saying i dont beat my wife, isnt it . Well, this always been well, this has always been the problem for labour. I mean , the problem for labour. I mean, you know, i if jeremy you know, i think if Jeremy Corbyn had not been anti eu himself and had actually, you know, said that he wanted to stay in the eu, we might not have left i think. And then , you have left i think. And then, you know, keir starmer has taken over this party where hes, hes , hes kind of got a poisoned chalice because its clear that he really, you know , supports he really, you know, supports the eu, wants to be, wants us to be part of the eu. But he cant say because voters or say it because so many voters or potential voters dont agree. So potential voters dont agree. So he sort of its the same with with with the woke thing about , with with the woke thing about, you know what is a woman that he sort backwards and sort of veers backwards and forwards and isnt really honest about his own his own opinion has the unthinkable happened. Hillary , do the tories have hillary, do the tories have a chance in a years time . Hope not. But i dont think i hope not. But i dont think so, no. What do you think starmer needs to do to steady the ship . I think he just needs to come down on one side or another and stop wavering. And i another and stop wavering. And i think he needs to just bring, you know, have some real labour values because if you know, as youve been saying , sunak values because if you know, as youve been saying, sunak is going to the right, youve been saying, sunak is going to the right , then i think going to the right, then i think one thing thats been thats thats been the case for a while is that no ones really been sure what the difference between labour tories been labour and the tories has been lately their policies. And if lately their policies. And so if sunakis lately their policies. And so if sunak is going to the right then labour should stick where they are and, and not, you know, and just not waver. Meanwhile , hilary sunak meanwhile, hilary sunak revives plans to slash inheritance tax. Will that be inheritance tax. Will that be popular with voters . Popular with voters . I think it will be very popular with the sort of voters that a traditional tory voters. Yes i dont think it will make that much difference to people who dont have that kind of money. And property. And henry henry, briefly, if you can, just a quick story that weve unearthed as well today. Bristol university are having their freshers week and the british army are not able to participate in the freshers week fair. I know this is bizarre. Its i know this is bizarre. Its the officer training corps. Yeah at the university thats been sort of shut out from it, supposedly because theyre competing for membership. Its a recruitment opportunity. This is recruitment opportunity. This is what we do. Come and join us. And there are apparently in competition or they are competition or they are competition for other parts of the sort of student such as like the sort of student such as like the jam making. And theres a dog society and theres a cat society and apparently they dont Work Together polishing apparently they dont work togetfingernails polishing apparently they dont work togetfingernails. Polishing apparently they dont work togetfingernails. Society. Ng your fingernails. Society. Exactly. Does this tell exactly. And does this tell us people dont us that young people dont appreciate the military . I think it ive for a very it does. And ive for a very long time felt that the army, your ex military. I am ex military. I spent 21 years in the regular and forces. The regular and reserve forces. And ive for a very long and ive said for a very long time weve got a problem in that the government doesnt put the armed forces forward. Theres a lot of talk about the armed armed forces forward. Theres a lot of covenant. The armed armed forces forward. Theres a lot of covenant. Th what an absolute scandal. Maria, how are doing . Maria, how are we doing . Should occupy the ground. Please. Comedy actor , the young ones, comedy actor, the young ones, yeah. Yeah. Bottom. All of the comics strip. Yeah. He was huge in the 80s and 90s and very well known in the partnership with rik mayall, who sadly died about ten years ago now. I think. Yeah. Years ago now. I think. Yeah. And he was on he was on Desert Island discs this week and he just gave very , very moving just gave a very, very moving interview about his life interview about about his life and his partnership with, with adrian, with rik mayall , and adrian, with rik mayall, and about ricks death. And it was about ricks death. And it was just a very open and heartfelt and quite unusual today, just a very honest interview. And i just thought that he just came across as a lovely man. Hes a wonderful comedian, a great the great writer as well. The spouse, husband jennifer spouse, the husband of jennifer saunders. Right. And i saunders. Thats right. And i think his great think one of his great challenges with rik male was keeping of the pub. Keeping rik male out of the pub. Which is brilliant. Yes. Which is brilliant. Yes. Which is brilliant. I think i think their relationship ultimately fell apart because of those those issues. Issues. But a true two legends. And if you want a bit of a chuckle, do rewatch touch bottom which was outrageous and silly. Mindless but funny. Was outrageous and silly. Mindless but funny. Speaking of mindless but funny. Speaking of which, henry now , thank you very which, henry now, thank you very much, mark. The second insult, two strikes. Youre out. Henry. Whos your headline . Hero of the day . King charles for two reasons. King charles for two reasons. I think his he and the queens their visit to france was is an amazing demonstrate version of the soft power of the monarch. And a lot of other monarch. And a lot of other people have said this and i couldnt agree more. There is absolutely no way that could have been achieved by a politician in so and its weve got difficulties with the french on all sorts of levels. But i on all sorts of levels. But i think that that is the depth that provides the resilience to the relationship that we do need to have completely. We miss Queen Elizabeth dreadfully, but actually king charles is not lacking pulling power, is he . Hes not. Hes not. Not at all. And nor is queen camilla. I mean, she was she was a star as well. But secondly , a star as well. But secondly, she he was he was he came across or some mountain bikers came across him in the hills near balmoral. I dont. Yeah i dont know whether other people saw him but one of the bikers was videoing and they suddenly videoing this and they suddenly realised theyd come across realised that theyd come across the out for walk and they the king out for a walk and they had good old chat and it was had a good old chat and it was just a super human, an interaction that just showed him to actually be in touch and a real person. And i thought that was put the two things together and youve got the sort of monarch that we need in this country, definitely another country, most definitely another great headline, mike reid , great headline, hero mike reid, your headline hero. First of all, i agree with both those ade evanson and king charles. I agree with of charles. I agree with both of those. Charles had those. I think charles had a great people storm great job, saw people storm buckingham so do Buckingham Palace today. So do you want a putin . Do you want a macron . Do you want a trump . Macron . Do you want a trump . Well, you know. Or are you happy with the king . Its like picking another Prime Minister. But its happened hasnt it . Happened before, hasnt it . Peasants revolt, charles the first, you know, there were eight assassination attempts. I think , on queen victoria. So think, on queen victoria. So theres new. But hey, theres nothing new. But hey, were, were happy with the royal it or youll royal family. Stop it or youll be the you know where be in the tower. You know where you. And flashheart, of you belong. And flashheart, of course, me of you, mark. Course, reminds me of you, mark. To hear it. Glad to hear it. Glad to hear it. Youre right. Glad to hear it. Youre right. Youre youre right. Youre absolutely right. Im very flattered. Im very flattered. Im very flattered. Woof. Woof. My heroes are future yeah. My heroes are future hero. Ive talked to people hero. Ive talked to people around boris , and i think hes around boris, and i think hes the only possible candidate. Not that hell do it. That could that hell do it. That could unseat khan. There is nobody else, anybody else stands a hope in hell. And khan will be in for another four years, which would be news. The only person , if be bad news. The only person, if he persuaded to do it he could be persuaded to do it is boris. That would be remarkable. That would be remarkable. Thats an interesting point. Thats an interesting point. That logistically briefly, is that logistically possible enter the possible for him to enter the race . He wouldnt the race . Yes. He wouldnt get the tory nomination, hed tory nomination, would he . Hed have independent. Tory nomination, would he . Hed havindependent. Independent. Independent. Independent. Independent. I wouldnt necessarily. There i wouldnt necessarily. There are ways that that could happen. Yes. With susan hall perhaps stepping to one side. There you go. Go. Next time round. What was that, all the next election . No. This time. Right. I oh, no. This time. Right. I think be better , much think itd be better, much better independent. Think should but do you think he should run round . Run this time round . Time . Should run this time . Ive spoken around they spoken to people around and they said, what . Would have to step susan would have to step aside. Hed to be independent.
