This is gb news across the uk on your tv, in your car, on your digital radio, and now on your digital radio, and now on your Smart Speaker by saying play your Smart Speaker by saying play gb news this is britains news. News. Channel welcome back. And tonight im joined by the brilliant mp for wimbledon, Stephen Hammond. And back our Stephen Hammond. And back our left in the corner , residential left in the corner, residential left in the corner, residential left in the corner. Its ice. Its Barry Gardiner. Now, look, were going to get straight into it, stephen. We see that tony blair, hes been poking his nose in again recently , advising the in again recently, advising the labour party on a number of things, but hes talking about taxing junk food in an attempt to control obesity and lead to healthy lifestyles. Do you think healthy lifestyles. Do you think thats the right thing to do to tax your way out of this obesity crisis . Well, look, obesity is a major crisis. George osborne put a tax on sugar drinks and that forced the manufacturers to think what theyre doing. Think about what theyre doing. Actually, way to do actually, the right way to do this to with the this is to work with the manufacturers to reform gate to gate down salt, to take down sugan gate down salt, to take down sugar, to put more cereal in cereal products. And its also the teach people the right way to teach people actually that processed food or to going mcdonalds is about as expensive a way of eating a meal as you can. You and i know that if i went into lidl tonight and bought a 5 fat piece of steak mince plus a can of tomatoes and a vegetable, you could make a much healthier, fulfilling meal for, i suspect, half the price of buying 3 or 4 pizzas. A good point, but why is junk food cheaper . Food cheaper . No, its not. And stephen is absolutely right. The obesity absolutely right. The obesity crisis is really serious. Weve got to tackle it. I remember when your colleague Robert Jenrick was looking at the figures on the sugar tax that you imposed in 2018, and he said that these figures, it was 150 something Million Pounds in tax that had been gathered. And he said these figures prove that the sugar tax has been a success. Trouble was, he was talking about the tax revenue , talking about the tax revenue, not about the change in Childhood Obesity and the trouble is there hasnt been the change in Childhood Obesity. And thats what we need to tackle. And what stephens saying prepare fresh , decent, raw prepare fresh, decent, raw ingredients. Make your meals ingredients. Make your meals from fresh. Thats the way to do from fresh. Thats the way to do it. But we need to educate people. Im glad you said that, barry, because i believe in education. I believe that the food poverty crisis that we keep banging on about is not as bad as people say it is. I believe that if people are educated to buy, to the right buy, to buy the right ingredients, to learn how to cook cuts of meat and cook the right cuts of meat and to cook from scratch, they can cook cheaper meals cook wholesome, cheaper meals and of a lot of and save a hell of a lot of money. Now, i into a spot of money. Now, i got into a spot of bother over this a few years back by because i was batch cooking at my local food bank and by your by and i was attacked by your by your party it. And your party over it. And i actually invited every labour mp your party over it. And i accome invited every labour mp your party over it. And i accome to lited every labour mp your party over it. And i accome to myi every labour mp your party over it. And i accome to my foody labour mp your party over it. And i accome to my food bank our mp your party over it. And i accome to my food bank and mp your party over it. And i accome to my food bank and take to come to my food bank and take part in this experiment. And funnily enough, not one labour mp me up on my offer. Mp took me up on my offer. I think they look for problems, not solutions, but i think youre quite right about the kids education. Is. And look, you cant it is. And look, you cant you cant say, well, if only wed educated the parents when they were children, they would now be cooking better. And that now be cooking better. And that was why surestart was so important , was why surestart was so important, because it was why surestart was so important , because it actually important, because it actually tried to educate parents to help parents be good parents. And. But when did parents stop being good parents . Barry look, you are talking about a time when parents would cook everything from raw ingredients , and that would be the way in which their children learn cooking because theyd see it in the home and they were brought up learning how to cook. And those days have gone , though. Those days have gone, though. Thats the trouble. Some of those days have gone, but there are always healthier alternatives, even in the more rarely processed area , and rarely processed area, and actually ensuring people understand the difference between how much , not just between how much, not just looking at the calories, but looking at the calories, but looking at the sugar content, looking at the sugar content, looking at the salt content. The sugar content is actually the biggest and its in everything. Now. There was vote last now. There was a vote last night in house of lords. Night in the house of lords. Stephen, i think youre hopping mad it looks mad over this vote. It looks like, sir keir is trying to block housebuilding in this country. 100,000 homes. Look , you and i look, you and i conservatively , we believe in conservatively, we believe in giving people the chance to live their own lives, create aspirational opportunity. Last nights vote was very clear. No one wants to pollute rivers the biggest polluters of rivers in this country, are the Agricultural Sector and the Water Companies. The government couldnt allow more rivers be couldnt allow more rivers to be polluted, so it had put in place mitigations. There was gradual mitigations. There was a gradual increase and pressure on the Water Companies up 2030 to Water Companies up to 2030 to change water, treatment change water, Sewage Treatment plants agricultural plants and the Agricultural Sector is now getting incentives not to pump agricultural waste into rivers. So the point about nutrient neutrality , which were nutrient neutrality, which were all going to have to learn to say, is that it was being mitigated. And last night the labour party voted to stop 120,000 houses being built in 74 locations. Ewns local authorities across this country. Ispoke authorities across this country. I spoke to one of the House Builders only a week ago and said , yeah, but you wouldnt be said, yeah, but you wouldnt be able to build it. He said no, all of these were consulted, consented, all of these could have been started within six, six months. And some of them would have been started before the year. We all know would have been started before the need year. We all know would have been started before the need to year. We all know would have been started before the need to build ar. We all know would have been started before the need to build more; all know would have been started before the need to build more housesow would have been started before the need to build more houses in we need to build more houses in this and there were this country and there were mitigations in place. This was last night done for Party Last Night doing done for Party Politics, not building the dreams of young people in this country. Barry, are they playing Party Politics with this housing issue . Well, 7 well, look, . Well, look, if you want to play well, look, if you want to play Party Politics with it, leigh, youd have to answer the question as to why you failed to build the number of houses that you promised youd build. But lets back on that one and lets go back on that one and come question that come back to the question that stephens talking about and thats quite clear. 120,000 thats quite clear. 120,000 houses had put or developers had put in an application or applications for 120,000 homes, homes which which they knew would breach the existing law on pollution. Now now we all know there are very big donors to the conservative party and we understand that. Therefore the conservatives want to help the developers make their profits on those homes. But quite honestly, you mean you mean provide homes for our children . You should not be counterposing bill building the homes that we need and against pollution rules. Okay. You dont soften pollution rules and when it comes to housing for our children, the trouble is, most of those homes were not going to be affordable homes. Youve set a rate for affordability. The Housing Market acas you build a nice big five bedroom house, people upgrade that frees up the 2 to 3 bedroom houses for our children to move in. Its a mixture and barry knows. I mean, if barrys was barry was right, i would be agreeing with him. No one wants to pollute more but the to pollute more rivers but the fact matter was that the fact of the matter was that the government had recognised its not sector not the housebuilding sector thats problem. Its thats the biggest problem. Its the agricultural and the Water Companies. The government is forcing the Water Companies to upgrade their treatment upgrade their Sewage Treatment over gradual period. I accept over a gradual period. I accept its not finally in place till 2030 and it is working with the Agricultural Sector. Stephen and barry sorry, let me finish and therefore this would have completely mitigated the much smaller impact of this house being built. It seems to me that you could say, oh, its only 120,000 homes, but thats 120,000 homes, but thats 120,000 homes, but thats 120,000 homes offering opportunity to people in across the whole of this country. And the whole of this country. And as to actually not building homes, well, barry and i are london mps. We know who doesnt london mps. We know who doesnt build homes in london, and thats the mayor of london. Barry, the last 30s to you, my friend. Look, quite simply, youve had 13 years to build the homes. Youve had 13 years to sort out the sewage being pumped into our rivers. And now stephens telling dont worry, well telling us, dont worry, well get it sorted by 2030. Well, yes, we will, because well have a Labour Government and in london and in london, course, london and in london, of course, we had eight years of we know weve had eight years of not homes under khan. I think we might need security in the building at any moment. But you had 13 years, barry, to sort the sewers out yourself and nowt. Then coming and did nowt. Now then coming up next, the yes or no quiz with next, is the yes or no quiz with Stephen Hammond and Barry Gardiner. Or no gardiner. So its a yes or no quiz. And this is the time quiz. And this is the only time of the week where you will actually see two politicians of opposite a opposite sides answer to a straight with a or straight question with a yes or no. It doesnt no. Sometimes it doesnt always happen, does it . Barry . Go straight to stephen, a yes straight to you, stephen, a yes or no answer. Thats all we need. Should tax junk food . Need. Should we tax junk food . Tax drinks already. So we tax drinks already. So i dont we need to tax junk food. Is that a no . Okay. Murray. Yes is starmer right to yes barry. Is starmer right to accept a quota of migrants from the eu should he get in power . The eu should he get in power . Yes. Stephen i mean, these are illegal migrants. No number three, barry, should we keep the royal family . Absolutely. We keep the royal family . Absyes ely. We keep the royal family . Absyes. Ly. Yes. Yes. A good man, stephen. Yes stephen, would you like to see blair return to frontline politics . Yes. Yes. Go. My leaflet straight away. And barry, no. Oh, thats strange, barry, no. Oh, thats strange, isnt it . And final question. Should we keep the bbc tv licence . Yes or no . Stephen . Yes barry yes. Licence . Yes or no . Stephen . Yes barry yes. Interesting about licence . Yes or no . Stephen . Yes barry yes. Interesting about the barry yes. Interesting about the blair question, would you like to see him return . No, no, i think hes doing a great job with his foundation. Great job with his foundation. Ian yeah. Stephen its up to him. I mean, so i say yes on the bafis i mean, so i say yes on the basis its up to him. I mean, if he wants to return, im not going to stop him. If he wants to be the backseat driver of keir starmer and the tories will not be too upset about that because it implies that the labour party confident, labour party arent confident, as the doorsteps, as we hear on the doorsteps, that although the labour party are long way ahead in the are a long way ahead in the opinion polls, isnt opinion polls, starmer isnt cutting the way that cutting through in the way that youd that opinion poll youd expect that opinion poll to be. To lead to be. What the doorstep what about on the doorstep for that the for you, barry . Is that the case . . Have a slightly i perhaps have a slightly different experience to stephen. I perhaps have a slightly diffim|t experience to stephen. I perhaps have a slightly diffim glad erience to stephen. I perhaps have a slightly diffim glad to ence to stephen. I perhaps have a slightly diffim glad to saye to stephen. I perhaps have a slightly diffim glad to say on stephen. I perhaps have a slightly diffim glad to say on the phen. Im glad to say on the doorstep, the one i wanted to just come was is when just come back on was is when stephen said, but theyre illegal migrants, so no, no, thats not case. Thats not the case. That is what he said last night. So what what were talking about actually taking really about is actually taking really strong measures against the criminal gangs. Strong measures against the criminal gangs. And thats what criminal gangs. And thats what im afraid you guys have failed to do. And what we need to do is to do. And what we need to do is to stop them determining who comes into the country and to set up through the quota system safe and legal routes for people to come and join their families here. But go on, stephen. But go on, stephen. Theres always the labour party always confused illegal economic migrants and refugees and asylum and what we have done work with the europeans on trying to stop the gangs. Weve done a deal this week or last week. I think Robert Jenrick did with albania, which is actually like effective like to be hugely effective provided it. We should be provided we do it. We should be saying youre an saying now if youre an albanian, reason to albanian, theres no reason to come you have an come here unless you have an economic migrant. See, you wont be claim asylum. Be able to claim asylum. Therefore must go back therefore you must go back straight away. To cut you short you have to cut you short now. Its brilliant. Now. Yes, i know its brilliant. Every week barrys been brilliant today. Stephens been brilliant. Do not go away, because next, back in because coming up next, back in the with comedy legend jim the day with comedy legend jim davidson. Davidson. The temperatures rising. The temperatures rising. Boxt solar proud sponsors of weather on. Gb news. Weather on. Gb news. Hi there. Its Aidan Mcgivern here from the met office. With the gb news forecast, its going to stay warm in the south over the next 24 hours. Its going to stay cool in the north. But through the weekend, theres an increased chance of thundery showers in places as the humidity rises for the time being, a weather front is stuck across central swathe of the uk thats been bringing wet weather all day, really across central and southern scotland, northern england, Northern Ireland. That continues into the night time to the far north. We keep clear spells and a few showers, temperatures dipping in northern scotland, 3 to 6 celsius in places. But its a warm night places. But its a warm night across much of england and wales. Mid teens in places. And as the night goes on, an increased chance of some of these thundery showers turning up of wales in the up across parts of wales in the south west, these tend to south west, these will tend to fade away during the morning once again and then a fine day for of southern half of for much of the southern half of the and outside chance here the uk and outside chance here and of the thundery and there of the odd thundery showers but showers popping up. But otherwise a lot of fine weather, sunny spells and temperatures reaching 26 27 celsius reaching 26 or 27 celsius towards the south east its going to dry up as well across these central parts with the rain easing away, a clear start then on for scotland , but then on sunday for scotland, but a chilly start with frost in places here, warmer elsewhere here and through the day on sunday, were going to see humid air drift north across the uk and with lowering pressure that will lead to the risk of thundery pushing north as thundery rain pushing north as well. Monday, further heavy well. Monday, further heavy downpours and thunderstorms and then it turns cooler in the south. The temperatures rising, boxt solar proud sponsors of weather on. Now youre listening to gb news radio. Oh so my next guest news radio. Oh so my next guest is comedy legend jim davidson. Hes got a pint in his hand already. Look, hes non stop with this. Its my fifth one. Its my fifth one. Jim, thanks for coming. Its jim, thanks for coming. Its an absolute pleasure to see you once again. Look youve been through the mill. Yeah in the game a long time. Comedy change from the 70s to the present day. Maybe things that you said in the 70s and 80s. Well late 80s and. And late 80s. You probably couldnt get away with some of the that said then. The stuff that you said then. Yeah, still think the my yeah, i still think the funny my parents do. Yeah but its a different age isnt it. Well it is but i think i think people set out to get offended lee i dont offended you know lee i dont think is given its think offence is given its taken isnt it. And i suppose that if you someones going to get if youre a get it arent they. If youre a comedian, it, comedian, someone gets it, theres taking taking theres either taking a taking theres either taking a taking the of someone else the mickey out of someone else or the mickey out or taking the mickey out yourself. Yeah. If you could if yourself. Yeah. If you could if you just talk things you can just talk about things about because about people you know because its really weird. They say, oh, you tell jokes about this you cant tell jokes about this person. That person, person person. That person, this person that person, person. But that person, this person. But then, all the same. Then, oh, were all the same. Were equal. Whats were all equal. So whats whats all about . But try whats all that about . But i try to bring people together. That chalky character that i did in the 70s, it was so everybody liked him. He was always the winner. He was never the bad guy, you know, thats obe. He backfires because people say, look you know, you cant tell look, you know, you cant tell the englishman scottish the englishman irishman scottish jokes i dont jokes anymore because i dont think you can. So we spoke previously about some of the shows and the films that came on in the 60s and 70s, the carry films and some of the carry on films and some of the carry on films and some of the double double entendres, the names, the i mean, that used to make me it still makes me laugh. Jim i mean, do you watch these films and still laugh . Yeah, i dont think you can make them because they make them now because they arent of innuendos gone totally. Everyones filthy comedian. Some totally. Everyones filthy come |m some totally. Everyones filthy come |m as some totally. Everyones filthy come |m as bad some totally. Everyones filthy come |m as bad as some totally. Everyones filthy come |m as bad as anyone totally. Everyones filthy com oh, well, i mean, not just the slapstick some of the slapstick stuff, but some of the. The humour, the. Some of the humour, the actual words spoke is very, actual words they spoke is very, very for the time day. Very clever for the time of day. That was absolutely brilliant. Its to im feeling its my go to if im feeling a bit in the dumps. Yeah, im bit down in the dumps. Yeah, im on my phone on youtube. Obviously put jim davis in and obviously i put jim davis in and but its normally laurel and hardy a of rising damp. Hardy and a bit of rising damp. You get away with you couldnt get away with rising days, could you . I you . I dont think you can get away with a nowadays. And of away with a lot nowadays. And of course programs dont course these programs dont get made ive just made made anymore. Ive just made another of comedians for another series of comedians for stream, and that was all the old guys telling exactly how guys telling jokes. Exactly how they them the they used to tell them the audience falling about audience is falling about laughter. People are signing up in they in their droves because they miss and if you miss that comedy. And if you look at it with with an open look at it with a with an open heart and an open mind, you know, its really causing know, its not really causing offence. Its not set out to cause youre cause offence unless youre a bad comedian. Cause offence unless youre a bacso median. Cause offence unless youre a bacso jim, ian. Cause offence unless youre a bacso jim, youre a veterans so jim, youre a veterans champion and a lot of my friends that served the military, that served in the military, they you and think they rave about you and think youre a great man. What got you into £75 . Into that £75 . I got paid £75 to go to for Northern Ireland three days. I didnt know there was any troubles in Northern Ireland. I thought they were just based there and i did these shows. They were fantastic. Yeah. And then went cyprus for £200 then i went to cyprus for £200 and then i just got used to working. I was about the same age as the average and then of course the falklands war in 1982. Was quite famous then, 1982. I was quite famous then, so i wrote to Margaret Thatcher saying , dear Prime Minister, saying, dear Prime Minister, ill now for the troops for ill now work for the troops for nothing. And so thats they nothing. And so thats it. They took that. So took advantage of that. So i wasnt particularly funny, but i wasnt particularly funny, but i was cost effective. Yes so how do feel . I mean, so how do you feel . I mean, i spoke about last week with spoke about this last week with with phil campion about you see veterans, years that veterans, 9800 years old, that are and applauded and are celebrated and applauded and rightly the things they rightly so, for the things they did world war. But did in the second world war. But you see parts of the media you see some parts of the media now current now attacking our current veterans something may veterans for something they may have done in places like iraq and afghanistan. And obviously weve things and afghanistan. And obviously wethe things and afghanistan. And obviously wethe daily things and afghanistan. And obviously wethe daily mirror things and afghanistan. And obviously wethe daily mirror that things and afghanistan. And obviously wethe daily mirror that theygs in the daily mirror that they printed years ago printed about 20 years ago attacking young man. Yeah, i think there was a there was a thing there was a guy called von clausewitz, wasnt he . He was some expert. Wasnt he . He was some expert. He was german. So what he knew about war, ive no idea. But he said that only people that have been war understand war. And been in war understand war. And you lot of these armchair you get a lot of these Armchair Generals and people, all that stuff. Theres so much disinformation going around about veterans. What we have found when i formed care after combat is that we have possibly 8000 veterans in prison in this country. Yeah i dont know what it is. 4, a bit less, maybe 4 or 5000 prisoners is not one of them has said the mod or any battle has made them break the law. You know, its just circumstances. I law. You know, its just circumstances. I dont law. You know, its just circumstances. I dont think circumstances. I dont think theres as many Homeless Veterans on the street as the newspapers say. I think the veteran of course he needs help and of course that is given his time and put his life on the line. But there needs the ones that are on the trip. And i actually agree with you. Theres not as many to say. But the ones that are on the street, its not just are on the street, its not just a case of giving them a bed, is it . Its much deeper than that. Yeah. Its just having word yeah. Its just having a word with wife and say, let him with their wife and say, let him back you. Back in with you. Its not getting inside but its not getting inside their head as well. Youve to get yeah. Youve got to get inside yeah theres inside their head. Yeah theres a, theres a lot of Mental Illness out there. Its strangely cloaked the media strangely cloaked by the media saying ptsd. Saying everyones got ptsd. Well, to careful well, you have to be careful because lot of mental because theres a lot of Mental Illness there thats not illness out there thats not related ptsd. Related to ptsd. Yeah, i think there is. I mean, we see alcohol causes a big problem. Mean, see big problem. I mean, we see i mean, i got in trouble for saying it while back. There is saying it a while back. There is obviously a lot people, not obviously a lot of people, not just military the ptsd just military with the ptsd and anxiety mental anxiety and Mental Health problems. A of that in problems. I see a lot of that in my job. But theres also a few people on that as well. People playing on that as well. Its become the new bad back, in people playing on that as well. Its opinion the new bad back, in people playing on that as well. Its opinion ase new bad back, in people playing on that as well. Its opinion as well. bad back, in my opinion as well. So ill make no comment. I made a comment about that once as well. I did actually say that, know, you get the odd that, you know, you get the odd person life and in person in civilian life and in military that oh, im military life that says, oh, im suffering ptsd and theyre suffering from ptsd and theyre not. But they dont know. Theyre theyre suffering not. But they dont know. Theysomething yre suffering not. But they dont know. Theysomething yre syeahng not. But they dont know. Theysomething yre syeah so, from something else. Yeah so, you a bit of you know, cut them a bit of slack i think. And it just makes me some of the older me laugh. Some of the older veterans, if you were to walk them down to folkestone and see these coming ashore, these immigrants coming ashore, theyre saying, hang on a minute, i bother . Yeah, minute, why did i bother . Yeah, you why mate you know, why did my mate denzil, you know, lose a leg in battle . And to see these people just, know, walking up the just, you know, walking up the beach, basically giving the beach, basically giving us the finger you spoke about your finger so you spoke about your comedy finger so you spoke about your comecis people like laurel and h ardy. Hardy. And but what about today . Which see on tv which comedian do you see on tv and im watching that . And think im watching that . Edna yeah. Well, dame edna everage, i really like dame edna everage, i really like dame edna everage and that was the everage because and that was the great art of innuendo. A lot of the guys not too sure the young guys im not too sure about, to be honest with you. Micky flanagans good, Micky Flanagans quite good, i believe. To believe. But theyre to entertain people. Im entertain young people. Im 70 years age. Im supposed years of age. Im not supposed to at young kids and to laugh at young kids and theyre supposed me theyre not supposed to make me laugh every comedian has laugh every every comedian has their of audience, their generation of audience, and that generation will grow up with them. Cancel culture. Jim, you cancel culture. Jim, have you been cancelled arent you . Thought that about ive i thought that about ive been cancelled they been cancelled the lot. Youve three to in the week. Youve got three to pick first one pick from. Yeah, the first one is body shop. They removed is the body shop. They removed the mens section in shop the mens section in the shop to make more neutral. Make it more gender neutral. Following complaints from workers. What workers they . Workers. What workers are they . I mate. We didnt i dont know, mate. We didnt get ill tell get them down the pit. Ill tell you that. They never complained. Number bbc the number two, the bbc proms. The last night of the proms saw the eu wavers proudly waving eu flag wavers proudly waving their. I their defiant flags. Well, i mean, you ready to go mean, when you get ready to go out at night time, you think, oh, hold on a minute, wheres my eu flag . Have a load of eu flag . I cant have a load of nonsense is at three nonsense is at number three oklahoma. In oklahoma. I think thats in america. A as high as america. A score as high as a drag queen as its head teacher. Well, what fun. How oh, well, what fun. How lovely. I think im going to pick here bbc proms because it was obvious that someone from was so obvious that someone from the bbc was handing those flags out. Think im going out. You dont think im going to a flag . You get to go and take a flag . You get one on the door. Its like merchandise and you dont buy it. They heres flag wave it. They say, heres a flag wave that down the front and wave. That go down the front and wave. Thats ridiculous. Singing thats ridiculous. Were singing land were land of hope and glory and were waving about that waving flags about lands that dont any glory at all. Dont have any glory at all. No glory at all. You well, no glory at all. You probably right there, jim. So youre quite right. Theyd have been their seats been probably sat on their seats then know, waiting then flags, you know, waiting for go yes see any for them to go in. Yes see any union flags you do any saint union flags you do see any Saint Georges flags, the four nations and those. Bet we and any of those. I bet we didnt at all. And its just it is quite ridiculous. Back corbyn, and bbc bring back corbyn, right. Thats what they want to do it . Its like that do isnt it . Its like that idiot that walks around dressed in with the hat. And you in blue with the hat. And you said to me, oh, lord, jim, im a great yours. Big great fan of yours. Big supporter and he said, supporter of yours. And he said, are you with us . But i said, no arms, brexit never liked you. Ive never liked you. Arms, brexit never liked you. Iveisever liked you. Arms, brexit never liked you. Iveisever the d you. Arms, brexit never liked you. Iveisever the around that hangs around . Yeah. Yeah blows, whistles and things. What an and bangs things. What an absolute in that case. You going with number so are you going with number two . The proms. Two . Well, the proms. The proms. Im going for the proms because so obvious proms because it was so obvious that the bbc an agenda. That the bbc have an agenda. Yeah. Dont know quite what yeah. And dont know quite what that is or driving that agenda is or whos driving it, but i wouldnt wave an eu flag. I like the union flag. I love it in that land of hope and glory and all that. And id always be in england and all that sort of stuff and get it. Look. Jim wilkey of the week goes to the bbc so if goes to the bbc proms. So if youre watching dont youre watching bbc, dont watch the myself. But if the channel myself. But if youre watching, thats from jim davidson. If youve another davidson. If youve got another million send it his way. Million quid, send it his way. Hed like that. Said, dont tell anyone, i said, dont tell anyone, will you . I said, no. Will you . I said, no. Okay, look, been okay, look, thats been a brilliant jim. Thanks brilliant interview, jim. Thanks for always a pleasure for that. Its always a pleasure to you, friend. Yeah, to see you, my friend. Yeah, its good to see you soon. But still to come, we got a right versus left with Barry Gardiner and belinda de lucy. Youre listening to gb news radio. Radio. So joining me now on right versus left, ive got Barry Gardiner and weve got the lovely belinda lucy, a former mep, and this is a topic that you love talking about. Belinda its illegal migration and we see that should the unthinkable happen and starmer get into power next year, hes got this sort of plan to do a deal with the eu to accept a quota of migrants to come to this country. Now this is for me, a disaster waiting to happen. Over to you, belinda. To you, belinda. Itsjust to you, belinda. Its just extraordinary. To you, belinda. Itsjust extraordinary. I its just extraordinary. I cannot not believe keir thinks he he may win an election on on a platform of helping the eu sort out its own migrant crisis. As you know, the eu migration policy has failed. Its been an absolute disaster. Tens of thousands of young men are arriving on the shores of italy and greece and making their way up through schengen countries and shopping from safe country to safe country. Theyre making a mockery of the generosity of europeans and of the british people. I genuinely think people. I genuinely think british people are incredibly compassionate. Were a very charitable country. Our contribute ocean to foreign aid is one of the highest in the world. But this migrant crisis is smacking us in the face and insulting us all. And it is doing no service to the genuine refugees stuck in camps like the women and children and no service to the british taxpayer. What macron and keir will be doing, i mean, macron must be loving this. Hes got this kind of little puppet now his of little puppet now in his reach that may well be in power next year. Whos going to help him disperse all problems him disperse all his problems over its never over to the uk. Its never ending. And our bar for asylum is so in the uk that when is so low in the uk that when the left say oh, but most of them are proper, genuine asylum seekers. Not really. They dont come with documents or evidence or say is that or they have to say is that theyre christian or theyre 93v theyre christian or theyre gay. There 70 gay. Well, there are 70 countries world that ban countries in the world that ban gay relationship ships, so anyone can just pretend. Anyone can just pretend. I mean, belinda says that starmer is potentially a puppet to macron. Is that correct . To macron. Is that correct . Look, you know, the reason were still talking about this week in, week out, were talking about this is because you guys have absolutely failed to do what you promised to do , which what you promised to do, which was to control our borders and to control and to back us. Barry hang on. You felt thats what you promised to do. And the fact is, you failed to do it. Now, what kyrees come up with is a fairly sensible plan because actually what you didnt say about the way in which it would operate is that it enables us to return back to france. The people who are not genuine. Why is it france doing that anyway . Sorry. Why wouldnt any decent country, an ally of ours, automatically , im sorry we automatically say, im sorry we let all these people off, let us take the boats . Take back the boats . Because they no, sorry. Because they want no, no. £500 million for no. The point is, at the moment, europe does not take back any of the migrants. And lets remember again, you promised to come. Again, you promised to come. Im glad you said migrants, barry, to stop the small boat people. People. Right . You havent. Theres been more than 21,000 alone. This year. They were coming in at a rate of what was almost 900 at a rate of what was almost 900 a day in august. Right. So youve absolutely failed on this. And what were saying is, look, when they come by small boats, when its actually the criminal gangs that are deciding who comes into this country , we who comes into this country, we need the power to return , turn need the power to return, turn those people back to europe, where they started that small boat crossing thats what keir would then get. And then what we say is in return for that , what say is in return for that, what well do and its precisely the point that you were making, we will say that we will decide who comes here. We will take a quota of genuine refugees, people who are who are coming here because they have a well founded fear of persecution in their country, of origin. Genuine. Thats the quid pro quo. No, no , no. Quo. No, no, no. 20,000 a year would be the quota. Even poland has said no way. Jose will do a referendum on it. Quota hasnt been determined. The deal hasnt been done. So who gets to decide who comes in . Rac not a job. Not at all. Absolutely not at all. What happens is that you establish deal with the eu establish a deal with the eu whereby we can return in the criminal migrants and we can stop the gangs coming in. Belinda if this happens, is this, like i said before, a disaster waiting to happen . How many young undocumented men will then make that perilous journey to europe . To europe . How many seriously so the Italian Security Services have said that there are at least 600,000 migrants waiting to leave libya to get to italy today. Like now , there will be like now, there will be hundreds of thousands. This is a calling card to the world that, hey, you know what, the boats dont worry about it. Well take you by plane. England is one of the most highly populated countries in europe. Youve only got countries the vatican got countries like the vatican city and malta that are more densely populated than england. Densely populated than england. We have the space or we dont even have the space or the housing to our own. The housing to support our own. We to cap refugees to we need to cap refugees to resettle here at 20,000. Half must be women and children from the camps. We need to use boats to intercept those at sea and safely return them to the safety of france. But we dont have the spine to it. The tories dont spine to do it. The tories dont have the spine to it. Labour have the spine to do it. Labour will the doors this is will open the doors up. This is open borders the back open borders through the back doors, way, and so a doors, by the way, and so a plague on your houses, to plague on both your houses, to be because no seems be honest, because no one seems to have spine to actually to have the spine to actually intercept the boats and take them macron them back to france. Macron might them back to france. Macron migcan i 1 1 note of can i put 1 1 note of agreement with you and that is we should be focusing on the women and children who are in the who may have relatives the cats who may have relatives in country. The cats who may have relatives in right. Jntry. The cats who may have relatives in right. And. The cats who may have relatives in right. And i have families right. And i have families who relatives in camps who have relatives in camps around world and camps in around the world and camps in pakistan, people who fled from Afghanistan Taliban afghanistan and fled the taliban who are in fear of their lives. You know, those those women from afghanistan. But you know what . This government has not put in place the system to get the biometric id of those women in those camps. Biometric id of those women in those camps. Its biometric id of those women in those camps. Its across the those camps. Its across the border to be able to come and rejoin their own families in this country. How many . And that this country. How many . And that is that is an absolutely wicked we say we want safe and legal routes, but we dont put it in place. And thats where this government has let those women and children down. Okay, barry, 30 countries at the moment around the world are in conflict right . There be in conflict right . There will be millions millions of people millions and millions of people eligible for asylum in this country we simply cannot country that we simply cannot take. Prioritise. Take. So we have to prioritise. Would you swap out all the young , healthy men that have thrown their phones and passports into their phones and passports into the sea, out of the hotels, return them and fill the places with women and children . No, with women and children . No, because would have everyone because you would have everyone. But im im saying that. But im saying im saying that we need to cap it. Resettling refugees in this country at 20,000 doesnt mean we cant help in camps nearer to help refugees in camps nearer to their zones. Help refugees in camps nearer to their zones. But we help refugees in camps nearer to their zones. But we to their war zones. But we have to make sure go direct to camps make sure we go direct to camps only make sure women and only and make sure women and children make up 50. No more accepting them by boats. We safely them to france. Safely return them to france. Sensible, barry. Thats sensible, barry. Thats policy. Macron thats a sensible policy. Macron at the moment, the policy is not to accept them by boats that is exactly what the government has done right . Its actually made made a distinction. And you know very well that that actually there are children on those boats. Sadly, weve seen the photographs of them lying dead on the beaches, floating in the water. So we know there are women and children. Thats the parents responsibility for putting their children at risk. Are leaving barry, why are they leaving france safe country and france a safe country and risking childrens life in risking their childrens life in the channel to get here . If they were a good parent, they would not do that. They would not do that. Would you do that . Would you do that . I dont. I dont. Theres no war in france, barry. If you are coming in the way that these people are and you know from absolutely appalling situation in france. War no, in france, no , no. France, no, no. Were not talking about in france. Were talking about refugees as a whole. You were talking about coming across the border from africa through the mediterranean into italy and into the of europe. Look into the rest of europe. So look , my view on this is we need to have safe and legal routes there. I think you and i agree we might be i would disagree overi we might be i would disagree over i know you would. And i would say that actually, you know , in this world we have the know, in this world we have the international convention. It says that if you have a well founded fear of persecution , you founded fear of persecution, you should be treated as a refugee. Should be treated as a refugee. But somebody who has a relative , if somebody has a relative, if somebody has a relative, if somebody has a relative in this country, nobody, not millions and millions, nobody in your party to admit that theres nothing wrong or spain or wrong with france or spain or italy or belgium holland or italy or belgium or holland or germany , are continuing germany, why are they continuing to come here . And its predominantly men, because the camps, because ive been to the camps, barry. See any women. I barry. I didnt see any women. I didnt see any children, you know, and actually, if you look at the number of refugees that all countries in all the other countries in europe the europe take, right, all the people go germany , who go people who go to germany, who go to italy, who make their homes in france , and they are taking in france, and they are taking hugely more countries. And i would say theres a reason that the far right is on the rise. You guys could talk about this all night. Not really acceptable. Weve got to cut this short. Its a fantastic discussion. Its a fantastic discussion. But do not go away. Next, weve got was doing but do not go away. Next, weve got orders was doing but do not go away. Next, weve got orders. Was doing well, that sounds like last orders, but ive just had a chap come in the pub for a last one. He is spitting feathers. He is venomous, he is furious. Ulez charge. Mike. Whats that doing to town . Well town . To the town . Well which town . Because as we all know now, its in Greater London. But ive warned many, many people all over the country, you know , over the country, you know, travel country travel around the country working and ive lived in nottingham and newcastle. Im home is chester and theyre home town is chester and theyre all susceptible to it because if the mayor of london, sadiq khan, gets away with it in Greater London on the borders where we are now , it will spread around are now, it will spread around the do you remember the country. Do you remember when the congestion charge was introduced livingstone introduced by Ken Livingstone were then of months a were then a couple of months a lovely little little town like durham suddenly started thinking, thats a nice way of raising money, you know, and thought about a £2 congestion charge. Itll spread all over the and iniquitous. The place and its iniquitous. Its it hurts so many people who are unable to defend themselves, people whove got businesses are going to lose those businesses. Old people are literally marooned in their homes because they cant afford to move their little old car off the driveway to go and see their friends to go for lunch. Honestly, its pernicious and i do hope im not in favour of criminal damage and i would not support people going around breaking up the equipment. You know, the ulez cameras. But surely the amount of anger which has erupted over this and the amount of really physical action thats going on opposing it has got to make everybody, including the government, who had the opportunity to stop it right from the start , didnt they . From the start, didnt they . They could have stepped in. The minister of state for transport could have stepped in and said, no, weve got postpone it. No, weve got to postpone it. Its to be reviewed before its got to be reviewed before people start getting depressed because they cant leave their own homes and start getting bankrupted because they cant run their businesses. You see, mike, i sort of disagree with the government getting involved. I think this is khans baby. And i think the best way to stop this nonsense is not by government. Keep stepping in. By the good stepping in. Its by the good people london kicking out people of london kicking him out next take it from next year. But i take it from what youve just said, that you dont ulez scheme . Dont support the ulez scheme . No, i dont support the ulez scheme at all. Its an outrage. Okay. Central london, just okay. For central london, just about introduced about Boris Johnson introduced it and you can say it did somehow clean up air. But even the even the full casts which are coming out now on improvements of air quality in Greater London and a lot of that is funded by mayor khans own people. It says over the years, 3, maybe improvement in air quality over the years and possibly as little as 0. 3. Its ridiculous. Whilst were talking about transport, mike, i did watch one of your videos last week and it tickled me a little bit to be honest. Oh yeah. But as i get older, youre, youre, you know your thoughts and your feelings change. Im sort having these change. Im sort of having these feelings being drawn feelings that im being drawn towards caravan, towards owning a caravan, a trailer caravan, a caravan and driving around the country and getting peoples nerves. Have getting on peoples nerves. Have you got any advice for people like well i travel up and like me . Well i travel up and down the stockbroker down between the stockbroker belt the south belt surrey and the south coast a lot. Belt surrey and the south coast a l right. And the a3 is a great right. And the a3 is a great road, its only two road, but its only got two lanes of it. Now if lanes for most of it. Now if youve got a two lane, uh, youve only got a two lane, uh, quotes motorway, its the, its the a3 m and youve got a caravan in front of you. Youre knackered , right . Very difficult knackered, right . Very difficult to make any movement. Now if youve got an expensive car which has got a three litre engine, it shouldnt be trading around after caravans. Its, its not built to do that. Ive no intention of breaking the speed limit but i dont want to be driven to driving slowly. I dont understand. And the role dont understand. And the role of the caravan that you tow around behind your vehicle in this day and age, you dont need them. Theres fixed caravans all over the place. People have got motorhomes. Bad. Motorhomes. Theyre not bad. They up to 60 miles an they can go up to 60 miles an houn they can go up to 60 miles an hour. Caravans can only be towed in some places at 50 miles an houn in some places at 50 miles an hour. I think should be a hour. I think there should be a tax caravans , maybe like tax on caravans, maybe like a ulez type charge where you drive through a part of a road and they flush your caravan. No, no, no. Ulez is a punitive tax, a tax on caravan lanes would be to the advantage of 95 of people who drive cars in this country who drive cars in this country who dont hinder the rest of the motor driving public by towing a metal box around behind them that has no real purpose. So you dont agree with caravans, then . I dont agree with caravans , i dont agree with caravans, so weve cleared that up with with ulez. With ulez. Weve cleared that up with caravans did watch caravans. Now, i did watch a youtube clip of you which i think went viral, 400 million views where you took the challenge, you swallow it well, you swallowed a spoonful of cinnamon. It was a tablespoonful of cinnamon. It was a brave challenge. Most people only do the teaspoon. I had no problem in taking on the challenge. It was a challenge put to me by my young nephew, who of course, is very much younger than me. And i did what i always do. I faced it head on. I head butted the challenge like a warrior. Like a warrior. I challenge like a warrior. Like a warrior. I wouldnt do it again. No, because and i wouldnt advise anybody else to do it, by the way, because what happens is that cinnamon, when it gets to the back of your throat, well have to stop you there. Mark, because you spoke about breaking speed limit. Heres breaking the speed limit. Heres a chap thats not me breaking the limit. Time the speed limit. Any time soon. Thats im not being breaking it for the last three months anyway, going anyway, so indeed, were going to pole. To do on the pole. And ive got two legends here, a pint pot here, so youve got a pint pot each. Jim jones the san miguel, i think. Jones mike right in your time. Yes. Theres no your own time. Yes. Theres no pressure. Yes. Weve had some really over really good contestants over the past weeks. It, guys. Past 12 weeks. Go for it, guys. Lets have a look. Cant we just our heads under here just put our heads under here and middle . Man good and cut out the middle . Man good idea. Good. Yeah. Paul, now, 3 2, one. Go so, paul, now, 3 2, one. Go so, paul, now, 3 2, one. Go wow, ive got a bigger flow than me. No, its good. Its good. No, its good. Its good. Thats good, mike. Think ive got a big head. Think ive got a big head. Did you ever do this on a generation game . Jim . No, no, no, no. I used to drink quite a lot on the generation game, but no, thats pretty good. Well, its not bad, but im thinking mines better because you a have because you can have a have a shave it as well. Yeah, shave with it as well. Yeah, thats what can you put that on the bar please. Oh , my god. No oh, my god. Theres no drinking. Theres no drinking. Drinking. Theres no drinking. Its a drinking game. Its not a drinking game. Oh, yeah, fine. Colombia. Oh, yeah, fine. Colombia. Oh, yeah, fine. Was on the bar. On absolute was on the bar. On the bar . The bar . Um. Um. Okay. Mike . Yes youve got to mark jim out of ten for that. For that. Yeah. For that. Yeah. Two and a half. So then. Jim two and a half, mate. Sorry. What are you going to mark . Thats an eight there, mate. An eight are an expectant alcoholic to be able to do it better. Well ive got a lot of practise. Obviously. You know what i mean . Now, the next challenge yeah. Now, the next challenge is you can it the quickest. Um, im not going to do that. Um, im not going to do that. So jim, you told me earlier that chap could drink a pint in 2 5 second. Peter dad as 2 5 of a second. Peter dad as well. Opened well. Yeah. Just opened his throat poured down. Yeah. Throat and poured it down. Yeah. Yeah so i reckon i can do this in about a week. A week . Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Im only used to drinking you see. So okay. Yeah. Im only used to drirandi you see. So okay. Yeah. Im only used to drirand what you see. So okay. Yeah. Im only used to drirand what about see. So okay. Yeah. Im only used to drirand what about thee. So okay. Yeah. Im only used to drirand what about the chap who and what about the chap who could drink a pint standing on his he said he could drink he said he could drink a pint, stood on his head in four seconds and you flip it on about. Howd you find out . Youre at that. Ill tell youre good at that. Ill tell you do. Ill drink a you what we do. Ill drink a pint ed and then go and pint on the ed and then go and get in my caravan. I dont dont often see that in wetherspoons. Do you . Do you spend a lot of time taxing beside us . Bicycles, no, taxing beside us . Not bicycles, no, taxing beside us . Not into cycles, no, taxing beside us . Not into that. S, no, taxing beside us . Not into that. Do no, taxing beside us . Not into that. Do you no, taxing beside us . Not into that. Do you know, im not into that. Do you know why it would create a huge bureaucracy . Dont bureaucracy . Yeah. And we dont need any more people working for the government. We less. The government. We need less. What would to do is see what i would like to do is see cycling being made aware of their the their responsibility on the road. , its not road. And remember, its not a one way traffic on the road. Cyclists can be just as difficult to deal with as motorists and theyve got to have a fair relationship in brewing. I think if every pub in this great country of ours had a couple of bartenders in like, dont worry , there would be dont worry, there would be absolutely to full the rafters, you would breathe life into the hospitality industry. But thats and we let people know to drink sensibly. Absolutely yeah thanks guys. Absolutely brilliant. Jim sorry, michael, good to see you. Yeah, michael, good to see you. Yeah, thats great. Thank you very much. Thank you very much. Daughters. Thank you. Thats daughters. Thank you. So thank you for watching my show this week.
