Breakfast on gb news. Now ive got a friend whos got Rheumatoid Arthritis like that andifs Rheumatoid Arthritis like that and its particularly affected by the weather. And sometimes she everythings painful when its cold she just sees the. Yeah, yeah. And just doing ordinary things with your hands particularly becomes really, really painful and its Awareness Week so well be talking about that through the programme if you if you suffer from it , how do you programme if you if you suffer from it, how do you manage and in what sort of way, what sort of help is available . Yeah. And also how do you get going in the mornings . Because my auntie celia has a and she has a, she works in a lace factory for all of her life. So she really depended on her hands, but used to have to hands, but she used to have to warm them up the morning, warm them up in the morning, blast them with water or massage. Its. Yes. And yet its still painful. Think must painful. Yeah. I think it must be horrible. Minutes to get going. 20 minutes to get going. 20 minutes to get going. Awful isnt it. As oh, its awful isnt it. As if its not more difficult enough actually getting up early in and theres lots in the morning and theres lots to talk today. Going to talk about today. Were going to talk about today. Were going to bit on in to be debating a bit later on in the programme. The naughty step. Yeah. Bring up your yeah. How did you bring up your children . Your with children . Maybe your with grandchildren at the grandchildren as well at the moment you discipline moment and how do you discipline them . The naughty step i mean, in the olden days you used to smack didnt you clip round the ear. Yeah, thats right. Yeah. And thats sort of become completely unacceptable. I never completely unacceptable. I never smacked my children, i dont think. But we did use the naughty step. Yeah and funnily enough, it really works. Yeah. Enough, it really works. Yeah. Ive never hit my kids, you know, i just wouldnt go down that although there that route. Although there was discipline my house clip discipline in my house or clip round mainly, but round the ear mainly, but i definitely used the naughty definitely have used the naughty step because, you know, toddlers cant with. Theyre cant be reasoned with. Theyre like they like chimpanzees when they completely get going. I mean. I mean, to them. No mean, you cant talk to them. No you cant reason with them when theyre little and theyre throwing a tantrum. But is amazing yeah, but what is amazing about the naughty they about the naughty step is they will they will . Yeah. Will sit on it. They will . Yeah. They take that form of they will take that form of discipline. Most of the time. I just think so many parents now soft on their now are really soft on their kids. It supermarkets kids. You see it in supermarkets when kind of act out. Now i when they kind of act out. Now i smile because my kids are 14 and nine. There but the grace of nine. There but for the grace of god, was me. But i think so god, that was me. But i think so many, especially middle class parents, now. An parents, are so soft now. An whereas well i personally whereas back well i personally think causes think thats what causes an awful of problems later kids awful lot of problems later kids young people who think they can do like and do what the heck they like and they always get their way. They always get their own way. So up with a sense of so they grow up with a sense of entitlement. Naughty entitlement. I think naughty step a good place. And were talking a lot about that sort of thing today because the actor jim carter, you know, the actorjim carter, you know, the actorjim carter, you know, the butler in Downton Abbey, i didnt know married to didnt know he was married to imelda oh, yeah. But Imelda Staunton. Oh, yeah. But anyway , they are the front anyway, they are on the front page the telegraph page of the telegraph today because say and i think because they say and i think this is a great idea , they say this is a great idea, they say gardening should now be on the on the national curriculum. Brilliant idea. It should be taughtin brilliant idea. It should be taught in schools because it gets you out in the in the fresh air and its good it teaches you how to nurture something and i think thats a great idea garden ing on the national curriculum. Yeah in schools my mum was a Home Economics teacher, you know, so i was taught to cook, got to about 14 which is how old my son is now. She said, thats it, im not cooking for you anymore, take of yourself. And i it take care of yourself. And i it was thrown in at the deep end and i cooked for myself every day taught kids and i cooked for myself every da cook taught kids and i cooked for myself every dacook already. Taught kids and i cooked for myself every da cook already. You ght kids and i cooked for myself every dacook already. You know, kidss to cook already. You know, kids should be sufficient, should be self sufficient, taught reasonable, valuable life skills pure academia. So gardening could become so gardening could become part a of home economic, part of a sort of home economic, i think its a great idea. Do they home ec . They do home ec . Its mostly phased its mostly been phased out. And was a it was and because it was a it was expensive to have the kitchens and everything in the school and of Health Safety of course health and safety and in burned, well, in case you got burned, well, you know, ovens tend to be hot. Well, thats about learning. You know, ovens tend to be hot. Weiyes. Ats about learning. You know, ovens tend to be hot. Weiyes. Thats out learning. You know, ovens tend to be hot. Weiyes. Thats a|t learning. You know, ovens tend to be hot. Weiyes. Thats a very rning. You know, ovens tend to be hot. Weiyes. Thats a very important yes. Thats a very important lesson learn, isnt it . So do lesson to learn, isnt it . So do know anything about home ec, is it . Youre teacher. And it . Maybe youre a teacher. And why you up early . You why are you up early . You deserve we can watch deserve a lie in. We can watch us youre lying in. But us while youre lying in. But yeah. No, i think home ec is terribly, terribly important. And phasing it out, we and if we are phasing it out, we should phasing back in fast. And also a good thing they do in ec is budgeting so a in home ec is budgeting so a recipe costs this you can cook this portions therefore this many portions therefore budget therefore and see these are practise useful are really practise useful skills than of just skills rather than sort of just learning for the pure sake of it. Yes i quite agree. So its something we need and maybe something we all need and maybe in the olden days it was your parents that taught you how to cook and how to garden and everything. But maybe now it has to be part of school life. Well, they on youtube. Well, they go on youtube. Its very easy to learn how to do anything. Now on youtube, you can change carburettors, find anything for anything you want. No excuse for not hands dirty. Not getting your hands dirty. No, absolutely. Not getting your hands dirty. No, absuthely. Not getting your hands dirty. No, absus know you think. Let us know what you think. Vaiews gbnews. Com now, as we were saying , the Prime Minister were saying, the Prime Minister has vowed to ban american bully dogs after a man was mauled to death. Actually, a lot of people have been killed by these dogs. Thats right. And in a video message, rishi sunak said that such attacks could not be allowed to continue. Lets have a quick look at how we got to this point. How we got to this point. It out of control. Dog it out of control. Dog attacks have risen significantly in recent years, and this breed, the xl bully , was behind six of the xl bully, was behind six of ten fatal attacks in the last yeah ten fatal attacks in the last year. The xl bully, a variant of the american bully breed, is thought to have been brought to the uk in around 2014. Footage the uk in around 2014. Footage of an xl bully dog attacking people in the street in birmingham include , including an birmingham include, including an 11 Year Old Girl, prompted demands for the dog to be banned. The demands for the dog to be banned. The 11 Year Old Girl caught up in this attack and suffered shoulder and arm injuries as promoting the home secretary. Suella braverman, to seek urgent advice on a ban. On friday, it was confirmed a man in stonnall had died after an attack by two dogs, with residents suggesting that they may have been bullies. Residents suggesting that they may have been bullies. And that may have been bullies. And that was swiftly followed by this announcement from the Prime Minister. Minister. Today i have tasked ministers to bring together police and experts to firstly define the breed of dog behind these attacks with a view to then outlawing it. It is not outlawing it. It is not currently a breed defined in law, so this vital first step must happen fast. We will then ban the breed under the dangerous dogs act and new laws will be in place by the end of the year. These dogs are dangerous. I the year. These dogs are dangerous. I want to the year. These dogs are dangerous. I want to reassure dangerous. I want to reassure the public that we will take all necessary steps to keep people safe. Safe. The Dog Control Coalition, which includes the rspca , which includes the rspca, opposes the ban and has called on the government to focus on the enforcement of responsible dog ownership. Ellie costello. Dog ownership. Ellie costello. Gb news i mean, there we saw dogs on leads, but the problem is when there particularly is when theyre let off the lead. For instance, again , huge for instance, again, huge double page spread. This is a big article in the daily mail today and its about the woman you can see there who actually rescued a one of these dogs and she thought that because she believed in nurture, not nature , she believed that it wouldnt hurt her if she could train it. And love it, give it sort of love and look at the size of its head. Its resting there against her face. Its an enormous thing. Anyway. Yeah, she took it out for a walk one day, and for some reason she was with other dogs as well. For some reason it as well. For some reason it turned on her and killed her. Yeah. And theres a bloke in my local park who has one of these and it has to be said hes fairly unsavoury character and when it goes, its like hes being tugged by a tractor. He cant control the dog and hes a big grown man. Hes ploughs him along. Hes got no control over the when wants to go somewhere. Lets talk webb now, lets talk to anna webb now, whos behaviourist very whos a dog behaviourist very good anna is good morning to you. Anna is rishi sunak right there to point out that this is not out the fact that this is not a specific breed, is it . So if specific breed, is it . So if theyre going to ban them , how theyre going to ban them, how are they going to be able to prove that that is an american bully dog . Bully dog . Well, good morning, bully dog . Well, good morning , anne. Well, good morning, anne. Good morning, martin. Yes absolutely. You hit the nail on the head there. I mean, for me, this is quite a backward step. It seems like a completely run of 1991. Also remember when the bill was banned . Um, so it is bill was banned . Um, so it is hybnd bill was banned . Um, so it is hybrid dog, so it is across between various big dogs now at the moment have these cropped ears which is actually also illegal in this country. But it does sort of define their look now and these ears blocking these dogs look like many other big strong dogs that are not on the banned list and dogs that have not got injured and killed humans. So my worry and that is that many innocent dogs are now going to be seized , taken to going to be seized, taken to kennels , have to be analysed by kennels, have to be analysed by experts , and many of them will experts, and many of them will be killed for no reason. Be killed for no reason. Anna, its good to talk to you, but im afraid the sound coming from you is very , very coming from you is very, very dodgy at the moment. So were going to love you and leave you there, if you dont mind. But there, if you dont mind. But youve made that point. Yeah youve made that point. Yeah youve made that point. Yeah youve made that point very well that i think a lot of people are going to be really upset about that they they will say, well , that they they will say, well, mine isnt xl bully dog. And mine isnt an xl bully dog. And anyway cant it is. Anyway, you cant prove it is. And theyre going to say, you know, would be culling if know, you would be culling if thats what they do to an innocent dog. Innocent dog. Yeah, id be interested to find out the numbers. I mean 50 of all deadly dog attacks are by this breed. And this rose to 60 in 2022. Year, 11 confirmed in 2022. Last year, 11 confirmed fatality via this dog since 2021. And three suspects deaths there are only 1 of the dog population. So theyre not hugely popular. But still an thats a significant number of dogs that presumably would need to be destroyed. I think what dogs that presumably would need to be meroyed. I think what dogs that presumably would need to be me ised. I think what dogs that presumably would need to be me is the i think what dogs that presumably would need to be me is the factnk what dogs that presumably would need to be me is the fact thathat dogs that presumably would need to be me is the fact that you scares me is the fact that you could just be walking in the park, walking down the road if somebody has one these dogs somebody has one of these dogs and particularly if they are off the lead , then what do you do . The lead, then what do you do . You could be attacked at any point. And sadly, this has happened. Weve got so many instances of that just in todays newspaper , frankly, in todays newspaper, frankly, in front of us. Yeah people whove actually been savaged by a dog that they thought was okay or savaged by a dog, thats just sort of leapt up at them out of the blue. And its interesting how people say, oh, its not the dogs, its the owners. But i think its fair to say that these dogs seem to attract a particular type of owner generally. Not generally. Obviously not. Not not they are not exclusively. And they are gang some places, arent gang dogs in some places, arent they . And their defence dogs, you theyre a guard dog. You know, theyre a guard dog. Theyre to theyre they are there to attack. And you look at the attack. And when you look at the number is there is definitely, i think, an a compelling for think, an a compelling case for banning dogs. Banning these these dogs. Dont know what the but we dont know what the ban means. Does that mean that your dog would have to be euthanized . It probably does. Yeah. And it probably does. Yeah. And they said theyre given a grace period, werent there . Yeah. Theres going to be a grace period, like year, 18 months. But what you meant to do in that grace period, well thats planned for its guess. Planned for its death, i guess. I mean, in brutal terms, yeah. I cant see people taking that. Can you . It would be very good to hear from you whether you nature or you think its nature or nurture. These dogs are nurture. These these dogs are obviously to look and be obviously bred to look and be scary and savage and why would you want to own one anyway . I think is the question id like to know. And also, i mean, what do you think they should do . Is do you think they should do . Is it the dog or the owner whos behaving badly . But theres got to be difficult. Both. Both. Yeah. Its going to be difficult as you say, because theyll have to measured , theyll have to be measured, weighed. And very weighed. And thats very difficult mean, how difficult because, i mean, how how a crossbreed are how much of a crossbreed are they . Its going to be a real i think, you know, sort of in terms the bureaucracy, terms of the bureaucracy, its going massive. Going to be massive. Yeah, absolutely. Do let us know what your views are on that. I can it views are on that. I can see it dividing people gb dividing people terribly. Gb views news news. Com and well views gb news news. Com and well move on to another big story of the day, and thats lucy letby. The day, and thats lucy letby. Now she has filed an application to appeal against her convictions and letby was handed 14 whole life orders last month for murdering seven babies and attempting to murder six others. Well, joining us now from outside Manchester Crown court is our north west of england. Reporter sophie reaper. Morning, sophie. What do we know so far is going on . Well, good morning to you both. Well, its been 29 days now since lucy letby was found guilty of seven murders and seven counts of attempted murder. And we now know that she hasindeed murder. And we now know that she has indeed made a formal bid to appeal against those convictions last month, she earned the title of the worst serial killer of children in modern british history with justice goss, the judge presiding over the case, telling her you acted in a way thatis telling her you acted in a way that is completely contrary to the normal human instinct of nurture , knowing and caring for nurture, knowing and caring for babies. He nurture, knowing and caring for babies. He thus sentenced to her a whole life order which should mean she would spend the rest of her life in prison. However we have heard from the court of appeal staff that she she and her legal team have now made an application in to try and overturn all 14 of those convictions that she was found guilty of here at Manchester Crown court. Now this isnt as simple a process as just making an appeal. Instead, theyve had to make an application to do so , which will now be reviewed by a judge without a formal hearing. If that is then refused. And. If that is then refused. And then lucy letby is within her rights to ask for that, to then go to a formal hearing and have it reviewed by typically 2 to 3 judges. So its often a lengthy and complex process. So it could be quite a while before we know a if the application to appeal is successful and b, if it is successful, what that then means for lucy letby Going Forward. For lucy letby Going Forward. And its just a continuation of the awful agony that the parents and the survivors have gone through and, you know, its just dragging it out all over again, isnt it . Absolutely. And i think that has been at the heart of the Crown Prosecution Service of Cheshire Police of the courts, making sure that the families feel that they are acknowledged throughout this entire process. Of course, not only this now, we still have the statutory inquiry to come in terms of lucy letby and what was going on at the countess of chester hospital. So for those families who were involved, it just it seems to just keep going. So, sophie, this is just a procedural matter, right . I mean, theres no question of her guilt is that right . Guilt is that right . Not as of yet. Not until we not as of yet. Not until we hear from the judge. Absolutely. We well leave it absolutely. We well leave it there. Sophie, thanks very much indeed. As we were saying, its it just prolongs the agony for the families involved. The families involved. You think about the poor families didnt even get to know face her in the dock. And that whole kind of change of the law that should be coming in. As a matter of fact, she wouldnt do that. Protested her innocence she protested her innocence throughout yeah. And was throughout it. Yeah. And it was inevitable you could inevitable in a way. You could tell the lawyers advising tell that the lawyers advising her probably decided. Yes her have probably decided. Yes to try for an appeal. And but it will drag it all out. So if shes allowed an appeal, it will just keep the agony going. Yeah, well, its terrible, isnt it . No closure for those families. Okay well move on. Its 6 17. A very good morning to you. If youre watching or listening to us here on breakfas , just us here on breakfas, just a reminder of the top stories this morning. Rishi sunak. Reminder of the top stories this morning. Rishi sunak. Yes, morning. Rishi sunak. Yes, sorry, says the government will ban this breed of dogs by the end of the year after a man died following an attack. And as we just heard, child killer lucy letby has filed application to appeal against her convictions. She was handed 14 whole life orders last month , and its orders last month, and its Rheumatoid Arthritis Awareness Week. Are you living with this awful condition . It felt like the pain felt like if you turn your gas hob in the oven, on the oven stove and put your hand on it. Yeah. And if you do have arthritis , what coping arthritis, what coping mechanisms do you have . Because i think people out there would like to know. Like i said, my aunfie like to know. Like i said, my auntie celia, she has to warm her hands in the shower for like 20 minutes every day just to get going. So what do you do to get going . Do you cope . Share going . How do you cope . Share that with our viewers. Lets take look at the lets take a look at the weather, shall we, with aidan, that warm feeling from that warm feeling inside from boxt that warm feeling inside from boiproud sponsors of weather on proud sponsors of weather on gb news. Hi there. Very good morning to you. Its Aidan Mcgivern here from the met office with the gb news forecast. Warm in the south once again today. Cooler further north, does turn drier north, but it does turn drier for time following the damp for a time following the damp weather saw across weather that we saw across Northern England , southern and Northern England, southern and Central Scotland, as well as parts of Northern Ireland yesterday. The rain continues yesterday. The rain continues for time in this part of the for a time in this part of the world in the morning, but it does tend to peter out into the afternoon a legacy of cloudy conditions here, brighter skies further south, but always the threat of some thundery showers through the day because its relatively humid air and temperatures peaking at 26 or 27 celsius, much cooler for northern scotland, although a bright day here, plenty of crisp september sunshine and we keep the clear skies in northern scotland overnight. Great scotland overnight. Great conditions for viewing the aurora , which is expected to be aurora, which is expected to be a good show tonight. Elsewhere lots of cloud cover and increasingly humid air moving up from the south along with the risk of thundery showers as temperatures in the south 18 celsius. But northern scotland, a widespread frost as we start off sunday. So this marked temperature contrast continues. However the humid air in the south is travelling north. That means cloudier skies for many, but also an increase as increasingly warm feel. Basically for much of scotland compared with the last few days, but associated with that higher humidity weve got these heavy outbreaks of rain and thunderstorms moving north. At the same time , highs of 22 celsius. That warm feeling inside from boxt boilers, proud sponsors of weather on. Gb news. Weather on. Gb news. And up next, the premier league hurrah returns today. And well be speaking to the legendary aidan magee in the studio here wholl be going through all the biggest names and the day. This and games of the day. This is breakfast gb hi there. Its 6 22. Welcome back. Youre watching and listening to breakfast this morning with anne and martin. Yeah lets take a look at some other stories coming into the newsroom this morning, including the Prime Minister was persuaded not as chancellor for not to quit as chancellor for breaking the lockdown laws. His government implemented after executives working for media mogul Rupert Murdoch. According to new book, talked him out of to a new book, talked him out of it. It. Yes, the claims were made in a book the telegraphs a new book by the telegraphs Political Editor. A new book by the telegraphs Political Editor. And donald Political Editor. And donald trump has attacked his fellow republican president ial candidate , ron desantis overnight. Once again , as an event once again, as an event organised by the group concerned women for america. Women for america. But on desanctimonious, as you know, i got him elected, but now hes a failed candidate. He failed. He failed before, you know, he came in. I gave him an endorsement and we lifted him into victory. He was way, way behind was he was over. The behind it. Was he was over. The race over. I endorsed him race was over. I endorsed him and he went like a rocket ship. And shortly and he won very shortly thereafter i got him thereafter. And then i got him past the election. So i got him the nomination. Then i got him the nomination. Then i got him the election when he ran against a guy at the time who was turned out to be a crackhead, but nobody knew that at the time. Well both trump and desantis spoke at events run by the evangelical Advocacy Group with the former president holding a 35 lead over the Florida Governor with christian voters and the sicilian island of lampedusa is still struggling to cope with a surge of migrant arrivals from africa after more than 6700 arrived over the past week, which surpasses the islands entire population. Islands entire population. Italys prime sorry, deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini , Prime Minister Matteo Salvini, blamed europe for the emergency. And youve been getting in touch with your views. Thanks very much on on the american bulldogs. Phil says my son has bulldogs. Phil says my son has an xl bully. Its so well behaved and has always been placid. How many dog attacks are there from other dog breeds . Every day . Yeah, its a fair point. Point you know, people are saying that not all dogs are like that. But it does have to be said that, you know, as we said the show earlier, 50 of said in the show earlier, 50 of all attacks are bully all deadly dog attacks are bully xls. So there clearly is an xls. So there clearly is an issue. Were talking about issue. And were talking about Rheumatoid Arthritis. Glenn endorsed it, says, hi guys, im 52 and i have arthritis in my hips knee and hands. Some days the pain is so bad, my morphine medicine doesnt touch it, so i have to stay in bed. One funny thing is that i stay in bed. One funny thing is thati can stay in bed. One funny thing is that i can always tell when its about to rain because my arthritis suddenly gets worse. Arthritis suddenly gets worse. A lot of people do say that. They do say that it be weather related on. Like a an related comes on. Its like a an internal kind of barometer, you know, when its changing. And internal kind of barometer, you knoa when its changing. And internal kind of barometer, you knoa huge| its changing. And internal kind of barometer, you knoa huge topic hanging. And internal kind of barometer, you knoa huge topic were ng. And internal kind of barometer, you knoa huge topic were talking its a huge topic were talking about the this about across the show this morning because week is morning because this week is rheumatoid awareness Rheumatoid Arthritis Awareness Week. This theme is week. And this years theme is drain , with the aim to educate drain, with the aim to educate people about the impact of living with the condition can have to day energy levels. Hundreds of thousands of people in the uk have been diagnosed with it and our reporter jack carson went to meet one of them to find out the effect its had on her life. Effect its had on her life. Jeff so i ended up going to portugal absolutely fine in and coming back three and a bit weeks later in a wheelchair off the plane, Rheumatoid Arthritis affects around 400,000 people in the uk with three times as many women affected by the condition as men. Its whats known as an autoimmune disease , meaning that autoimmune disease, meaning that the symptoms such as pain and inflammation are caused by the immune system attacking the joints. Commonly it starts in joints. Commonly it starts in people aged between 40 and 50, but it can affect adults at any age. For wendy norman, symptoms of the condition turned into serious pain on a holiday in portugal. It was quite terrifying because i thought, how have i gone from that person that walked on the plane really excited to be going away to being pushed off by people at and not knowing what it was because i literally had no strength in any of my joints and i had terrible pains in my ankles and my knees and id also had pain in my elbow as well. It had sort of migrated a little bit by then. So yeah, i was frightened because i had no idea what it was. So tell me then about the impact that that had on your life, but life in the mean time, it just got progressively worse. I would wear compression gloves on my hands and arms because it felt like the pain felt like if you turn your gas hob in the oven, on the oven stove and put your hand on it, thats what it feels like all the time. And you lose. I said the time. And you lose. I said all this strength in a lot of yourjoints. So day to day challenges are those basic things. Getting dressed, doing a button up, couldnt do any buttons up, couldnt do zips up. I had to wear everything that was pulled on and pulled over the head. Things like that. Getting up a single step you could attempts at it. I could have 20 attempts at it. I think one of the first things i had to do was write a card to somebody. I couldnt hold the pen. If somebody gave me a cup of they didnt know, it of tea and they didnt know, it would end on the floor. Treatment for Rheumatoid Arthritis is specific for each individual take time for individual and can take time for the balance to made. The right balance to be made. Medication includes things like steroids and disease, modifying antirheumatic drugs , which can antirheumatic drugs, which can slow down the spread of the condition. Over the last two years. Wendy has been able to find that balance to be able to return to life as normal as possible. She wants to raise possible. Now she wants to raise awareness about condition awareness about the condition and of the most and break some of the most common. Common misconceptions. If i went up to somebody and said, ive got Rheumatoid Arthritis, they often say , oh, arthritis, they often say, oh, my granny had that in my finger or her finger or, you know, she had a bad knee. It is not osteoarthritis. Its very much, i think, a cinderella disease , i think, a cinderella disease, but it has a huge impact on people. And yet life will be people. And yet life will be different , but it doesnt mean different, but it doesnt mean its going to be awful. It just changes a little bit. Research into Rheumatoid Arthritis continues across the world in the hope that one day suffering will be contained and for now, a lengthy treatment process is the only option for thousands across the country. Thousands across the country. Jack carson gb news is gosh, yeah. Gosh. Gosh. Gosh. I mean, it really is life altering, isnt it . Very difficult , actually. Were difficult, actually. Were joined by to aidan magee talk about sport and you were just telling us during that that it can affect sportsmen and women and actually and their careers. And actually and their careers. Yeah, i know. I knew of one case. I yeah, i know. I knew of one case. I mean, it was i was told it maybe 20 years ago. George graham, the arsenal, the former arsenal manager, he had a problem with arthritis and it prevented actually prevented it from actually coaching field of play. Coaching on the field of play. And so people asking why kind coaching on the field of play. Anhis people asking why kind coaching on the field of play. Anhis career. E asking why kind coaching on the field of play. Anhis career ended1g why kind coaching on the field of play. Anhis career ended in why kind coaching on the field of play. Anhis career ended in 2001, kind coaching on the field of play. Anhis career ended in 2001, heind of his career ended in 2001, he never really returned to management. Everyone assumed that apparently management. Everyone assumed that was apparently management. Everyone assumed that was one apparently management. Everyone assumed that was one of apparently management. Everyone assumed that was one of the apparently management. Everyone assumed that was one of the reasonsntly management. Everyone assumed that was one of the reasons he that was one of the reasons he couldnt he couldnt partake fully. Hes very much fully. And he was hes very much a george. Know. Yeah, a coach, george. You know. Yeah, yeah. To see though. Yeah. Just to see why though. Whats really and its whats really enlightening about of this enlightening about all of this now wendy and glenn now wendy said it and also glenn indoors wrote and is it indoors who wrote and is it i just this an old just think this is an old peoples thing but this is like peoples thing but this is like people their 50s i mean people in their 50s i mean thats yeah you know it thats me yeah you know it really sort hammers home that really sort of hammers home that the mean even the awareness i mean even i didnt know and it sort of it sort of turns you into an old person, doesnt it . Well, are before your time. Were getting there, right . Were getting there, right . Were getting there, right . Were talking football. And i know want to about the know you want to talk about the premier but i want premier league, but i want to talk about rubiales. Yes talk about Luis Rubiales. Yes the goes on. Whats happened . Does. Its now it does. I mean, its now almost four weeks now since the spain won won the world cup. Spain won the won the world cup. Its totally overshadowed its been totally overshadowed by incident. The spanish by this incident. The spanish matchwinner jenni matchwinner on the day. Jenni hermoso taken her case to hermoso has taken her case to prosecutors in in spain. She wasnt happy with how the spanish dealt with it. There is a subtext to this this problem has been going on for 15 odd months now. You know, the spanish players have had problems. There have been players been boycotting players who have been boycotting tournaments tournaments. Tournaments or not tournaments. Yeah, actually. Yeah. Tournaments. Yeah. Because seven, 8 players declined seven, 7 or 8 players declined to to world cup just a to go to the world cup just a few weeks and shes few weeks ago. And so shes taken the to court. But i taken the issue to court. But i dont think she really felt that the fa, which had proved the spanish fa, which had proved pretty, pretty inept in the last few months, were dealing with it properly. And the result is that until the judge decides whether charges are going to be formally issued , Luis Rubiales, who last issued, Luis Rubiales, who last week gave an interview in england saying hes a good guy. Well, he would say that, wouldnt he . But, i mean, you know, he denies all accusations. But are 2 2 against but there are 2 2 counts against him hes been issued with a him and hes been issued with a 200 metre restraining order, which it going to which he himself it was going to be 500m reduced to. Its been its set at 200m. He was its been set at 200m. He was also to be asked to appear also going to be asked to appear in 15 days to in court every 15 days to prevent him from fleeing the country. Judge rejected that. Its a significant up step, isnt it, that a restraining order implies , guys, that this order implies, guys, that this is something much more nefarious, like stalking or hes actually, you know, hes pursuing her. Thats is pursuing her. Thats not. Is that the or is this just that the case or is this just like a formal if you like, escalation of matters . So its taken seriously . Taken more seriously . I thats probably yeah, i think thats probably what martin although you what it is. Martin although you never into never know once you get into court, all sorts of stuff can come out, you know, i mean, this isnt just jenny hermosos case. There be people there could be other people called given to be giving called to be given to be giving evidence. Dont whats evidence. We dont know whats going this is very going to come out. This is very much a preliminary stage at the moment, where we are moment, but thats where we are at moment. A at the moment. Its a restraining not restraining order. Hes not allowed 200m the allowed within 200m of the player. Insists through her player. She insists through her lawyer that kiss lawyer yesterday that the kiss was consensual. Was non consensual. Shes maintained along. So maintained that all along. So thats where are with it. Thats where we are with it. Of course the okay. So of course the premier league today premier League Returns today after international break. A after the international break. A week harry week to forget for Harry Maguire. Had a nightmare week to forget for Harry Maguirescotland. A nightmare week to forget for Harry Maguirescotland. Man 1tmare week to forget for Harry Maguirescotland. Man united against scotland. Man united back action today facing back in action today facing brighton. That could be a tough game. Be, but it could game. Shouldnt be, but it could be a tough for be a tough game for them. Won the last brighton have won the last three games against Manchester United. Robert united. Their manager, Robert Roberto saying, you roberto de zerbi, is saying, you know, we be know, why should we be considered underdogs for this game . Won three game . Weve won our last three games against Manchester United , than them , finished higher than them in the season, but the league last season, but a wretched for wretched week again for Manchester United. Theyve had a lot recently. Erik ten lot of them recently. Erik ten hag coach having deal hag the coach having to deal with fault of his with through no fault of his own. The issue with mason Mason Greenwood who forced out of greenwood who was forced out of the following his the the club following his his the allegations against the allegations against him the brazilian £70 million allegations against him the brazilianbean £70 million allegations against him the brazilianbean hes0 million allegations against him the brazilianbean hes been lion allegations against him the brazilianbean hes been charged anthony bean hes been charged but not charged. But hes been. Hes been. Hes been hes been accused of similar things in his nafive accused of similar things in his native brazil. And theres the ongoing problem with jadon, sancho, jadon, sancho was criticised the game criticised after the game against arsenal for not training properly, which is why he wasnt included game. Issued included in that game. He issued a on instagram a statement on on instagram saying, thats not saying, actually, thats not true. Im good trainer. True. Im a good trainer. I dont know why ive been frozen out club. Erik ten hag out of the club. Erik ten hag has faced the media yesterday and i brought into and said, i was brought into this to change the culture. This club to change the culture. Now issue here is an if now the issue here is an if someone is brought in to change a culture because theyre not happy more happy with it and they want more from and you from their players and you present yourself with this disciplinary and youve dealt with problems. Of with these two problems. Two of them mentioned no them weve mentioned were no fault own. But harry fault of his own. But Harry Maguire mentioned, maguire is, as we mentioned, dropped stripped of the dropped him, stripped him of the captaincy. Ushered him captaincy. Ronaldo ushered him out club last year, and out of the club last year, and then now hes got this issue with jadon. Sancho the pro with jadon. Sancho the quid pro quo surely that you have to quo surely is that you have to show significant of show a significant degree of improvement pitch to show show a significant degree of impryour|ent pitch to show show a significant degree of impryour strategy pitch to show show a significant degree of impryour strategy is pitch to show show a significant degree of impryour strategy is working. Show that your strategy is working. Im not seeing enough right im not seeing that enough right now. Won two and theyve now. Theyve won two and theyve lost as lost two so far. And as Manchester United manager is no lost two so far. And as mancikind united manager is no lost two so far. And as mancikind ofnited manager is no lost two so far. And as mancikind of comparing ger is no lost two so far. And as mancikind of comparing yourself good, kind of comparing yourself or acting like alex ferguson, hes disciplinarian. Different hes a disciplinarian. Different time, you get time, of course, unless you get results they need results on the pitch, they need a because, as i say, a win today because, as i say, its the pressures building up and manchester and a club like Manchester United, shown recent and a club like manchester uniteytheyre shown recent and a club like manchester uniteytheyre prepared recent and a club like manchester uniteytheyre prepared to recent years theyre prepared to dispense managers and he dispense with managers and he could never know. Could be next. You never know. Another tough game and another tough game everton. Theyre sorts of everton. Theyre in all sorts of bother toffees down at the bother the toffees down at the bottom theyre scrambling around. Face arsenal at around. They face arsenal at goodison thats to goodison park. Thats going to be them, youd think. Well, it is, yeah. Goodison park, but the more pressing need for week that for everton this week is that forward their forward moshiri theyre their owner has put the club up for sale. It looks the american sale. It looks like the american company, partners going sale. It looks like the american co take ly, partners going sale. It looks like the american co take over partners going sale. It looks like the american co take over partn doubts going sale. It looks like the american co take over partn doubts about to take over strong doubts about who these people actually are. They other franchises they own nine other franchises around of around around the world. Lots of fans clubs are saying, fans of those clubs are saying, well, very well, theyre not very good owners. Lots consternation owners. Lots of consternation around whether they would owners. Lots of consternation around vpass er they would owners. Lots of consternation around vpass er tiownersld owners. Lots of consternation around vpass er tiowners and actually pass the owners and directors the premier directors test to the premier league. Mean, weve seen league. I mean, weve seen some weird and wonderful, quite frankly, people who frankly, people and people who just bought just shouldnt have bought football buying clubs football clubs, buying clubs in the 15 years. The last ten, 15 years. I remember covering a case at portsmouth back 2009 where portsmouth back in 2009 where somebody actually somebody who didnt actually exist portsmouth exist was able to buy portsmouth football exist was able to buy portsmouth foobut. Exist was able to buy portsmouth foobut its fair to say that the but its fair to say that the everton fans have been very unhappy with their owners for a long time. Theyve been widespread on terraces. Widespread protests on terraces. A difficult to theyre a difficult mob to please, to put it, to put it mildly. Having that, mildly. Having said that, you cant of cant accuse Fahad Moshiri of not putting money in. He put in £750 million. The recruitment of players absolutely players has been absolutely appalling another radio appalling and as another radio broadcaster once put it, theyve spent billion. Fact, spent half £1 billion. In fact, no that now to £750 no increase that now to £750 million to get absolutely nowhere. And they are struggling as now. Theyve been in as much now. Theyve been in relegation battles for the last two looks very two seasons and it looks very much as if theyre going to head that way now. Look, we better move well, look, we better move on because already. Aiden because its 635 already. Aiden youll be back. Well, indeed, indeed. Youre watching news breakfast on your tv. You might be listening to it on your radio. Of course, you can radio. And of course, you can get next, well be get us online. Up next, well be looking at the biggest looking at some of the biggest stories the news in stories to make the news in headune stories to make the news in headline makers with susan halder and schofield. So halder and kevin schofield. So do us welcome back. Youre watching and listening to breakfast this morning with anne and martin. Yeah, and its 637 on saturday, the 16th of december. And today , the american excel and today, the american excel bully dogs are being banned. Bully dogs are being banned. Yeah. Rishi sunak says the government is going to ban these dogs by the end of the year after a man died following an attack. And there have been so many others. Thats right. And also in the news, child lucy letby news, child killer lucy letby has application to has filed an application to appeal her convictions. Appeal against her convictions. She was handed 14 whole life orders last month and later in the programme, were going to hear from labour as keir starmer is going to declare four major threats to the west in a global meeting in montreal. Meeting in montreal. All. Should we have a look at all. Should we have a look at some of todays front pages on the papers . And the telegraph the papers . And the telegraph leads with Rupert Murdochs team telling rishi sunak not to quit over partygate makes you wonder whos running the country. And the guardian reports on a Mass Campaign needed to kerb unhealthy living. Unhealthy living. And the daily mail leads with the conservatives branding labours 20 miles an hour speed limits in wales a beyond insane i many l many people many people may agree, and the times says rishi sunak is ready to phase out petrol and diesel cars on a strict time frame. Despite pressure to scale down net zero plans. And thats a 2030 ban on all petrol and diesel cars. Madness okay. Well, yes indeed. Do okay. Well, yes indeed. Do let us know your views on any of those actually. Joining us to go through some of the days headunes through some of the days headlines and give their views , headlines and give their views, journalist and author susan holder and the Political Editor of huffpost uk, kevin schofield, and a very good morning. Nice to see you. Right kevin, lets talk about the xl bully dogs. Youve been looking at the mirror. Yes. So the mirror have actually had a campaign on this for quite some time. So this is, i guess, a victory for them. But its obviously to a head its obviously come to a head with profile with a lot of high profile incidents involving these dogs. Incidents involving these dogs. Sadly, one of the latest victim, a man called ian price, whod been trying to protect his elderly mother from a couple of these dogs, which had got loose from the street and from across the street and unfortunately lost his life. And unfortunately lost his life. And it was almost inevitable , i it was almost inevitable, i think, that rishi sunak was going to come out and say that these dogs have got to be banned politically. He was under lot politically. He was under a lot of pressure to and appeared on the be quite an the face of it, to be quite an easy win for the Prime Minister. Its as cut and dried, its not quite as cut and dried, though. I think going to be. Its going to be difficult. I dont know. What do you think of it, susan . I think its it, susan . The i think its going to be very difficult for anyone to say what is and what is xl bully dog. Yeah. Is not an xl bully dog. Yeah. I remember was talking and i remember i was talking to yesterday whos to somebody yesterday whos a dog who said that dog trainer who said that actually the banning of these kind dogs, they tried to do kind of dogs, they tried to do that pit and that with pit bulls. And obviously have pit obviously we still have pit bulls. Doesnt really bulls. So it doesnt really work. I mean, i think work. So, i mean, i think i think cracking down on the breeding of it is a really good idea. Surely that must lessen the out there. The numbers out there. But sending underground is sending anything underground is always big worry always a really big worry because of people who because the kind of people who like and who like to have these dogs and who dont after them dont look after them responsibly the kind of responsibly are the kind of people happily people who would quite happily go underground with it and make people who would quite happily grbitiderground with it and make people who would quite happily g saying earlier on, is it the owners that are responsible . Because its fair to kev, because its fair to say, kev, that to attract that these dogs seem to attract a particular type of owner. You dont how put dont see many. How do we put it . Hoodlums chihuahuas. It . Hoodlums with chihuahuas. Do you know . Youre right. And that a tiktok and if only that was a tiktok point. If that good point. If that was a tiktok trend that would take off, we could. We could do off, then we could. We could do a good that way. A lot of good that way. Chihuahuas, hashtag and. And also, if youre them, also, if youre banning them, what mean . What does that mean . Going to insist that youre going to insist that certain are destroyed . Certain dogs are destroyed . What well, i was exactly what i was to going say. Does this mean that ban comes in, do that once the ban comes in, do they can seize your dog . Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. The houses of people who have these dogs take them them to these dogs take them off them to get to get them destroyed, get them to get them destroyed, even though the dog itself hasnt actually anything hasnt actually done anything wrong. Theyre theres wrong. Theyre saying theres a grace but yeah, im grace period, but yeah, im not sure means. I mean, sure what that means. I mean, the minister that the Prime Minister says that this law brought in this new law will be brought in by the end of the year. Yeah, which isnt far away obviously. So think theres quite lot so i think theres quite a lot of be the thing that of detail to be the thing that the mirror that the mirror have got that i hadnt the mirror have got that i hadnt seen before was that youre talking about nature and nurture and is it, oh, you know, some of them might be okay, but actually half of actually it says here half of all the excel bully dogs in britain could be descended from one us male named killer kimbo. So it just shows that, you know, with names a bit of a giveaway. But the gene pool is quite small, isnt it, there. So and thats part of the problem that this interbreeding that that this is interbreeding that that this is interbreeding that that gene line means that that narrow gene line means that any kind of defects, if you like, will be will be amplified across the whole population. See what we therefore, we see what we have has a problem. Susan, something bother something that didnt bother me at insomnia. At all last night. Insomnia. God, could barely sleep last. God, i could barely sleep last. In i did have insomnia. It in fact, i did have insomnia. It was so hot. The first nightly pill, chronic insomnia pill, all the chronic insomnia and the telegraph. Yeah. Great news. Yes. So anyone who does yes. So for anyone who does suffer insomnia and i know suffer with insomnia and i know there are of people there are a lot of people and you be of watching us you might be kind of watching us now because you havent slept very in your up early very well in your up early because havent got much because you havent got much sleep. Theres sleep. So yeah, theres a nightly for chronic nightly pill for chronic insomnia. You will have to demonstrate this demonstrate that this is something that kind of occurs very regularly over over a certain like certain period of time, like three but difference three months. But the difference with pill, unlike the ones with this pill, unlike the ones that are currently available, the ones ive never taken sleeping tablets , but apparently sleeping tablets, but apparently can you groggy the can make you very groggy the next this one works the next day. This one works the other round. So instead of other way round. So instead of increasing, you increasing, what makes you sleepy to you go to sleep, sleepy to make you go to sleep, it blocks the chemicals that keep your body awake. Wow. So it blocks the chemicals that keep you awake . Yes. So . So, yeah. So you awake . Yes. So . So, yeah. So it works the opposite way. So theres two types of orexins chemicals that help the body stay awake and it those stay awake and it stops those working too, too much. So yeah, so this drug is called , i think so this drug is called, i think you say dairy and dairy. No i cant say dairy. And ive written it phonetically and i still couldnt do it anyway. Dairy derrickson but it will be available privately and through the nhs and its a new kind of way of dealing with that problem. It does sound really useful though. I mean, insomnia can be crippled for people. Well, thats the thing. Yeah, completely debilitating. Yeah. I mean, fortunately completely debilitating. never mean, fortunately completely debilitating. never mean, fyfrom ately completely debilitating. never mean, fyfrom it,ly completely debilitating. never mean, fyfrom it, but completely debilitating. Knowver mean, fyfrom it, but completely debilitating. Know people an, fyfrom it, but completely debilitating. Know people who from it, but completely debilitating. Know people who have it, but completely debilitating. Know people who have it, nyou i know people who have and you know, its impossible eventually to on an hour to or sleep to get by on an hour to or sleep a night. And it can be completely crippling as you say it affects your your daily life. It your home life, your it affects your home life, your work life. I mean, anything work life. So, i mean, anything that i think your sleep that can i think your sleep pattern quite as pattern is quite habitual as well, isnt it . If you into a bad habit if you get into a bad habit with your sleep, sometimes with your sleep, then sometimes you something to break you just need something to break that and back kind of that and get you back kind of regular. Its not something regular. So its not something that apparently that but this apparently is something that you could take longer term that real longer term if that was a real issue longer term if that was a real isleeah, people around here are yeah, people around here are obsessed with sleep because, of course, gets in course, everyone gets up in the morning, two in the morning, and i find i on this show, i find when i work on this show, i find when i work on this show, i if youre the same i dont know if youre the same man, you get like a jet lag man, but you get like a jet lag and you sort of still wake up at three in the morning for days and days afterwards. So insomnia can a nightmare. Of can be a nightmare. A lot of people to alcohol to help people turn to alcohol to help them onto your your people turn to alcohol to help then door onto your your people turn to alcohol to help then door on onto your your people turn to alcohol to help then door on the onto your your people turn to alcohol to help then door on the guardian, r your next door on the guardian, charities and Health Campaigners warn having warning on warn having warning labels on alcohol hard hitting tv alcohol and a hard hitting tv campaign the campaign to scare us about the dangers of excessive drinking. Obviously this yeah, i mean, obviously this is that smoking is something that for smoking has quhe is something that for smoking has quite some time. Has been in for quite some time. You it on the on the you see it on the on the package. Its there where anti smoking not seen anti smoking adverts not seen one a little actually. One for a little while actually. But is the world but but yeah this is the World Cancer Research fund that Cancer Research fund saying that we on alcohol and tv we need labels on alcohol and tv campaigns about its not just alcohol unhealthy so alcohol but unhealthy eating. So basically you basically anything that you consume lead to consume which can lead to cancen consume which can lead to cancer, think there should cancer, they think there should be a much more high profile Advertising Campaigns to really hammer home the message. And it wont be like, you know, sort of disease ized body parts, will it . Like you see on on ciggy packets . No. Well theyre basically to do theyre trying basically to do something trying something about just trying to get all i mean, theyre even get us all i mean, theyre even considering certain considering bans on certain foods they. Considering bans on certain foo well, they. Considering bans on certain foo well, yeah. 3y. Well, yeah. Well, yeah. Mean think thats i mean i think thats probably a little bit too probably going a little bit too far. I mean, ultimately its up to individuals, isnt well far. I mean, ultimately its up to it|dividuals, isnt well far. I mean, ultimately its up to it anymore . Isnt well far. I mean, ultimately its up to it anymore . Isnt because is it anymore . Is it because shouldnt as they say, shouldnt we be, as they say, protecting the nhs . Protecting the n hs . Protecting the nhs . I mean, isnt it up to us actually to do something , to do actually to do something, to do everything we individually . Absolutely yeah. So, yeah, but you should all the information should have all the information given to you. Say, well, given to you. You say, well, look, if you eat burgers look, if you eat ten burgers a day, thats obviously going to do you some damage in the long term. People all term. So provide people with all this information on, but ultimately theyre the ones who have to make the final decision. That, but yes. You say that, but but yes. And is difficult if and the decision is difficult if youre to eating crisps and youre used to eating crisps and buy one, get one free biscuits. And i dont goodness things we know are bad for us. Yeah. Why not say to the manufacturers stop making them. Well i mean it would be impossible i suppose thats why. But i mean its difficult to police if the demand is there and theyre going to make money out of it. They are. They are going to make. Whats your take on this, suze . Because i mean, on the one hand, its obviously, you know, sensible other hand, its sensible on the other hand, its a nanny state. A bit nanny state. It is a bit nanny well, it is a bit nanny state. Dont know how how state. And i dont know how how many people dont realise that smoking and drinking excessively is same is bad for you, but at the same time, think if you are going time, i think if you are going to i think i think you have to go kind of middle way on it. Go kind of the middle way on it. So i wouldnt want i wouldnt i certainly crisps certainly wouldnt want crisps banned. Harsh. Banned. That seems a bit harsh. Now we know, but but okay. Now we know, but but but no, i think i think it it should be available but having those warnings i mean but then again, still see you saw again, you still see you saw people when those people smoking even when those revolting adverts with tumours growing on the side of cigarettes. I cant understand personally why anyone would smoke anyway, but but you do the same but but so if you do the same with drinking people, some people are fatalistic people will just are fatalistic about it. About it. But at the same point the government is addicted to the tax. They get off all this tax. They get off all of this stuff. So, so, so a lot less people smoke now, its like people smoke now, but its like £20 a packet if youre £20 for a packet of. If youre not careful. Its unbelievable. And while theres while theres make theres demand, people will make things. Theres demand, people will make thirso, mean, its been so, i mean, its been effective the anti smoking stuff because you look at the because if you look at the numbers of people smoking, i mean that because of the but is that because of the adverts or is that because its so to find anywhere to so hard to find anywhere to smoke . So hard to find anywhere to smoi effect, it . Like alcohol effect, didnt it . Like alcohol use up. Use went up. That use went up. Yeah. Yeah that hasnt been as it hasnt worked at as i mean it hasnt worked at a certain extent, but i dont think as effective as think its been as effective as maybe intended it be maybe they intended it to be because ultimately, you know, they are addictive substances as well enjoy it. Its well and people enjoy it. Its all balance, isnt it . All about a balance, isnt it . Okay its expensive, but i really it i really need really like it or i really need it. So theyre willing to it. Yeah. So theyre willing to basically other things basically sacrifice other things like and like food. Unfortunately and lets bit about drew. Drew barrymore. Yes. Actress because shes been talking about the Writers Strike, which is affecting not just those in hollywood. Its come right to our country now where because i mean, so many movies and tv shows are made here in britain because of the Writers Strike. A lot of people who work on those projects in britain have suddenly found that there is no work for them. And Drew Barrymore has a talk show. I think starting in about a weeks time. And she sort of made time. And she sort of made a little video to explain why she is going to go ahead with her talk show without any writers. I dont know. Lets have a little look at what she said. Look at what she said. I believe theres nothing i can do or say in this moment to make it okay. I wanted to own a decision so that it wasnt a pr protected situation and i would just take full responsibility for my actions. Just take full responsibility for my actions. I just take full responsibility for my actions. I know theres. For my actions. I know theres. Just nothing i can do. So that just nothing i can do. So that will make this okay. Okay. For those it is not okay with. I fully accept that. I fully understand that there are so many reasons why this is so complex. And i just want complex. And i just want everyone to know my intentions have never been in a place to upset or hurt anyone. Its not upset or hurt anyone. Its not who i am. Who i am. Yeah. Oh, drew , you. Yeah. Oh, drew, you. Yeah. Oh, drew, you. Youre not actually feeling that much simpler. I love Drew Barrymore. I think shes brilliant. But she was great in e. T. But she was great in e. T. She was wonderful in in the one she made about oh , i cant one she made about oh, i cant remember what its called. Its a really weird one where she eats people. Sounds great. Oh, its fab. Sounds great. Oh, its fab. I cant tell you how ridiculous and brilliant it is. Ill think of the name in a minute, but no, shes lovely, but shes obviously upset because shes come under a barrage. Shes had a backlash because shes gone ahead and shes broke. Shes breaking a strike. Really. She has. And i mean, and as a writer, i do find it quite incredible that quite a lot of people who work even in tv or theatre or film dont ever really think about writers. And thats where about writers. And thats where the Writers Strike are coming from, because people kind of ive actually worked in theatre and people have said something about script. I think about theres a script. I think people actors people think people, actors just go make up the words. So go on and make up the words. So its like, which would be really impressive. Yeah, yeah, it would. Yeah, yeah, it would. Then on the other hand, but then on the other hand, have call me a cynic. Didnt that like of an oscar that seem like a bit of an oscar winning performance itself . That seem like a bit of an oscar win|take3erformance itself . That seem like a bit of an oscar win|take the rmance itself . That seem like a bit of an oscar win|take the makeup itself . That seem like a bit of an oscar win|take the makeup off, self . That seem like a bit of an oscar win|take the makeup off, rub . No. Take the makeup off, rub some onions in your eyes. No look upset. Thats not fair. Look upset. Thats not fair. I rather like the fact she has a ordinary kitchen. Has a very ordinary kitchen. Did seem genuine, yeah, it did seem genuine, but would say. What did she but i would say. What did she expect . You know, surely she must that breaking must have realised that breaking the. Its very high the strain. Its a very high profile strike and lots of dare i say, more famous actors, actresses than her are observing the strike by going ahead with their talk show and she seems to have been acting like she wasnt expecting this backlash and its pretty underwhelmed. So she has to apologise. Yeah. Yeah. And im sure she is sincere. I think i think i think in this country that we find that kind of very over the top, overly sincere american, kind of we find that a bit kind of cringe. Its not the most cringe thing shes done. Mind shes ever done. Mind you, i think her falling to her knees in of dylan mulvaney, the in front of dylan mulvaney, the trans he was trans activist when he was a guest her show, found they guest on her show, i found they were a guest on their show, i should say. I dont know. I dont know. Just that i find i just i find that i find that even more cringe worthy than that. But think we find than that. But i think we find that that kind of yeah, you that all that kind of yeah, you cant a of coal miner in cant imagine a of coal miner in 1984 really didnt mean 1984 like i really didnt mean to i mean it just feels to me like kind of saccharine in like so kind of saccharine in the note, i guess hey thats hollywood. No, but by the way, the series she in where she series that she was in where she something strange happens to her and she ends up needing eat and she ends up needing to eat people husband people and her husband can happen to the best of us. Yes. Her husband decides that. All right. Eat right. Well, theyll only eat nasty bad people. Oh, nasty people. Bad people. Oh, well. But they go out deliberately looking nasty people. Its just so weird. Its just so weird. Its just so weird. Its called the Santa Clarita diet. Oh, okay. And all i can say is its on netflix. Its absolutely brilliant. She is so funny. Is that what you watched . Just to help you get to sleep. But before you have to get up early, thats your trick for insight. Nice relaxing about nice relaxing program about cannibalism , right, susan . Cannibalism, right, susan . Really something thats really getting going. Zero getting people going. Net zero and impact its having on and the impact its having on peoples pockets and a huge talking point is the phasing out, the outright banning of petrol and diesel vehicles by 2030. It doesnt look like the government is in any mood to back down on that. It doesnt look like theyre in a mood to back down and 2030, it seems, it feels remarkably close to me, which is wearing. And the reason i think hes not backing down because does backing down is because he does have a commitment to have to make a commitment to industry. Industry are industry. So the industry are pushing to of, you pushing him to kind of, you know, kind of say know, he needs to kind of say one thing or another because they want a £600 Million Investment to build electric minis rather than minis in oxford rather than sending the business to sending all the business to china. Worry of this china. My worry with all of this as else is, is as everybody else is, is obviously dont have obviously is that we dont have the infrastructure support it the infrastructure to support it. Moment we need. And at the moment we need apparently 300,000 chargepoints and at the moment we have 44,000. So thats quite a big difference. And even if we had them and the wherewithal, where are we going to put them . It just seems to me like its not. Its like Everything Else with its a great idea , but its not its a great idea, but its not been thought through and i do think if we if were going to do this , the improvement such as it this, the improvement such as it is, is going to make life very, very difficult. Were not going to be able to just set off and decide, you know, were going to have to strategize our journeys and about where were and think about where were charging, calling charging, what are they calling it, mileage anxiety or something . Absolutely. Absolutely. Absolutely. And people in electric cars are really worried theyre are really worried and theyre having do calculations about having to do calculations about how and if you get how to get there. And if you get there and find that the charging point isnt working, what the heck . Know whether heck . And i dont know whether theyve this well. Theyve thought of this as well. Im not i dont want i mean, im not i dont want to play of the gender to play the kind of the gender card, but at the same time, i like driving. I drive around all the time on my own at night. It never occurs me that im just never occurs to me that im just going im going to hong going to be im going to hong kongin going to be im going to hong kong in the middle of nowhere and on own and not know and be on my own and not know what to but actually, what to do. But actually, i think for women or anyone driving, actually when youre travelling quite travelling alone, that is quite a youre going a difficult thing youre going to deal with. To have to deal with. Right. And kevin, thats right. And kevin, politically, fascinating politically, this is fascinating because seem to because all the parties seem to agree or at least agree with this, or at least nobodys outright coming and nobodys outright coming out and saying, pause or saying, lets press pause or have or anything have a referendum or anything sort vote this. Theyre sort of a vote on this. Theyre all and the public must all for it. And the public must be scratching their heads thinking, the thinking, well, whos on the side motorist . Side of the motorist . Well, conservative backbencher and theres a lot of them very unhappy about them are very unhappy about this. Think thought this. And i think they thought that managed to get the that theyd managed to get the prime a place Prime Minister into a place where might back that where he might push back that 20, deadline. You 20, 30 deadline. If you remember, conservatives remember, when the conservatives won uxbridge on won the uxbridge by election on an it looked an anti ulez ticket, it looked as the Prime Minister was as though the Prime Minister was starting the green starting to water down the green pledges, this one. So pledges, including this one. So i this is potentially i think this is potentially going lot of going to cause him a lot of bother on his backbenches because mps he doesnt because a lot of mps he doesnt mean, though, that he isnt going back down. Mean, though, that he isnt goiihes back down. Mean, though, that he isnt goiihes just< down. Mean, though, that he isnt goiihes just notwn. Mean, though, that he isnt goiihes just not doing it now, hes just not doing it now, though theyll still do an 11th hour kind of turnaround because thats with thats what happens with everything. Thats what happens with evewereg. To have to leave were going to have to leave it for this but it there for this hour, but youll back with us in the youll be back with us in the next hour. The rain continues for time in this continues for a time in this part of the world in the morning, but it does tend to peter out into the afternoon a legacy of cloudy conditions here. Brighter skies further south, but always the threat of some thundery showers through the day because its relatively humid. Air and temperatures humid. Air and temperatures peaking. At 26 or 27 celsius, peaking. At 26 or 27 celsius, much cooler for northern scotland, although a bright day here, plenty of crisp september sunshine and we keep the clear skies in northern scotland overnight. Great conditions for viewing the aurora, which is expected to be a good show tonight. Elsewhere, a lot of cloud cover and increasingly humid air moving up from the south along with the risk of thundery showers. Temperatures thundery showers. Temperatures in the south, 18 celsius, but northern scotland, a widespread frost as we start off sunday. So this marked temperature contrast continues. However the humid air in the south is travelling north. That means cloudier skies for many, but also an increase increasingly warm feel basically for much of scotland compared with the last few days. Rishi sunak says the government is going to ban those dogs by the end of the year after many people actually have died following attacks. Have died following attacks. And sir keir starmer says he believes terrorism, Climate Change, criminal people smuggling gangs and threats to democracy are the major challenges for the west. Ahead challenges for the west. Ahead of a global meeting in montreal , baby killer lucy letby has filed an application to appeal against her convictions. Against her convictions. She was handed, if you remember, 14, a whole life sentence cases last month. Sentence cases last month. Its often a lengthy and complex process. So it could be quite a while before we know. Eh if the application to appeal is successful and b if it is successful, what that then means for lucy letby Going Forward. For lucy letby Going Forward. Still some warm, sunny spells around today, but through the weekend and humidity is climbing , pressure is lowering and theres an increased risk of thundery showers developing, especially tonight. And tomorrow. Find out more in the Weather Forecast first. Well, a very good morning to you. Im anne diamond. You. Im anne diamond. Stop procrastinating. Go to a post office in person apply at office in person and apply at the and youll have it the counter and youll have it in and i thought, well, in a week. And i thought, well, that cant be true. Got this that cant be true. I got this in six days. Thats brilliant. Lets have a really good look at it. If we can, because this is a new can, because this is a brand new passport and cant quite make passport and we cant quite make up minds its black up our minds whether its black or dark blue. Thats or very, very dark blue. Thats right. Magnificent right. It looks magnificent with all stuff on the all of that gold stuff on the front. Does. And what are we front. It does. And what are we going to do . A close up of it . Can you see, mr director . Yeah. So try and get try and zoom in. So. The Big Conversation so. So the Big Conversation is, is it black is it blue . Is, is it black or is it blue . Now . I think a magnificent, now . I think its a magnificent, deep french blue. Deep indigo, inky french blue. So a lot of people say its black, its black. But what is also very impressive about it is whats inside. You were showing me earlier. Thats right. Dreadful picture. Yeah. I look like a isnt it look like a picture. But it says his britannic majestys secretary of state. So ive got the most up to date one with the king. Its got this wonderful kind of, um, thistle embossed on the back. Beautiful thing. It is a very nice, impressive, really nice thing. Yeah, it is. Yeah, it is. Mostly you know. Well but mostly you know. Well done guys. But mostly you know. Well done guys. Forgive a done to you guys. Forgive me. A kick backside. Get to a kick up the backside. Get to a post it was. Was post office. It was. It was quite expensive. You pay £16 premium them to it, but premium for them to do it, but they but the thing that they do you but the thing that it takes the stress out of it an is that they they guarantee me on the spot that your photograph wont because all wont fail because all photographs and photographs that i was taken and doing were getting doing it online were getting rejected have rejected because they have too much shadow or i was smiling or grimacing whatever. Was grimacing or whatever. So it was painless. Six day painless. Its seamless. Six day magnifici service. Magnifici service. It a bit absolutely. With it a bit earlier on we were looking at front page the telegraph, front page of the telegraph, which jim carter, who is the which has jim carter, who is the butler in Downton Abbey , and his butler in Downton Abbey, and his wife Imelda Staunton. It was a bit of a shock to me. Fine they were married. I didnt know that. But it as a couple, they are saying and theyre sort of leading a little crusade saying, why dont we teach gardening in schools . Teach gardening in schools . Because we and they said, because we dont. And they said, its so good for you. It would teach children to get out to put their digital devices down and get dirty and get in there and grow something. And theyre grow something. And theyre leading a Little Campaign , and i leading a Little Campaign, and i think thats really good. Yeah, great idea. Great idea. Yeah. And theyre doing this at my daughters school. My missus is a ta there, so theyve got some planter beds. Old got some planter beds. The old ones rotten. Ive taken all got some planter beds. The old onewood rotten. Ive taken all got some planter beds. The old onewood because ive taken all got some planter beds. The old onewood because ae taken all got some planter beds. The old onewood because a lotaken all got some planter beds. The old onewood because a lot of n all got some planter beds. The old one wood because a lot of thel the wood because a lot of the woods in really good nick and ive got about quids worth ive got about 200 quids worth of anyway, all the of timber anyway, all the kids are like filling it full of are like are filling it full of compost theyre all doing compost and theyre all doing potting planting they potting and planting and they absolutely love it. Now theyre getting to their elbows absolutely love it. Now theyre ge it ng to their elbows absolutely love it. Now theyre ge it ng theyre to their elbows absolutely love it. Now theyre ge it ng theyre growingr elbows absolutely love it. Now theyre ge it ng theyre growing things s in it and theyre growing things that can eat. Theyre that they can eat. Theyre growing theyre growing growing herbs, theyre growing apples, and theyre getting connected their food connected with where their food comes from. Think its brilliant. I think i mean, its like in some primary schools in the sort of almost schools, they of almost nursery schools, they one things they often do, one of the things they often do, the teachers do grow the teachers do is grow sunflowers. Yeah, because is because back so because it gives gives back so much doesnt it. Thats right. These water them, these things if you water them, they thats fun. They grow and thats fun. Christine im a retired christine says im a retired early years teacher and we taught gardening skills to the little ones. I remember we had little ones. I remember we had domestic science and its such an important skill. Domestic science and its such an important skill. As martin an important skill. As martin said, you learn about money, budgeting and nutrition. I think it would help children learn about healthy food might about healthy food and might actually cut down obesity in youngsters. Actually cut down obesity in youyeah,s. Actually cut down obesity in youyeah, and i just think its yeah, and i just think its so important. Mean, i, i did so important. I mean, i, i did domestic science. It was called back Home Economics. Back in the days Home Economics. Yes and know, i can i can yes and you know, i can i can cook and i love cooking. And i do that with my kids. And that all starts from being nurtured in the right way school. In the right way at school. I think these practical and think these practical skills and of actually chris think these practical skills and of a actually chris think these practical skills and of a goodactually chris think these practical skills and of a good story. Y chris tells a good story. Says, when i was at he says, when i was at comprehensive school, we had this meant that we this subject which meant that we were bused off for the afternoon and taught about gardening and farming we farming with cows and sheep. We learned how to milk cows gardening like growing tomatoes and runner beans. Our highlight of the afternoon was that 3 or 4 of the afternoon was that 3 or 4 of us were in a line and touching the electric fence and watching the end person jump up and down in shock. Well, you wouldnt be allowed to do that now, you . Safety. Now, would you . Oh and safety. Highlight. I dread thats the highlight. I dread to the low was. To think what the low light was. But but its so true. If you think about like my father learnt from his father because they for britain they were digging for britain dunng they were digging for britain during about during the war, it was about being self sufficient. And these skills being of skills are just being sort of sadly and bringing sadly lost. And i think bringing it in schools is a it back in schools is a brilliant idea. Is. Isnt it yeah, it is. Isnt it fantastic. And you got in touch with your views on the xl bully dogs well. We talk dogs as well. Should we talk about now . Because the about that now . Because the prime has vowed to ban Prime Minister has vowed to ban these dogs these american xl bully dogs after was mauled death after a man was mauled to death just recently . In a video message, yeah, in a video message, rishi sunak said that such attacks allowed attacks could not be allowed to continue. Continue. So lets have a quick look at how we actually got to this point out of control dog attacks have risen significantly in recent years, and this breed , recent years, and this breed, the xl bully, was behind a six of ten fatal attacks in the last yeah the xl bully , a variant of the xl bully, a variant of the american bully breed, is thought to have been brought to the uk in around 2014. Footage the uk in around 2014. Footage of an xl bully dog attacking people in the street in birmingham, including an 11 Year Old Girl, prompted demands for the dog to be banned and the 11 Year Old Girl caught up in this attack suffered shoulder and arm injuries. On friday, it was confirmed a man in stonnall had died after an attack by two dogs, with residents suggesting they may have been xl bullies. They may have been xl bullies. And that was swiftly followed by this announcement from the Prime Minister here today. I have tasked ministers to bring together police and experts to firstly define the breed of dog behind these attacks with a view to then outlawing it. It is not then outlawing it. It is not currently a breed defined in law, so this vital first step must happen fast. First, we will must happen fast. First, we will then ban the breed under the dangerous dogs act and new laws will be in place by the end of the year. These dogs are dangerous. I want to reassure the public that we will take all necessary steps to keep people safe. Safe. Both the Dog Control Coalition , which includes the coalition, which includes the rspca , opposes the ban and has rspca, opposes the ban and has called on the government to focus on the enforcement of responsible dog ownership. Ellie costello gb news is. Mean lots costello gb news is. Mean lots of people are already getting in touch, saying these dogs should be muzzled. Yeah, they by law they should be always on a lead. We need dog be always on a lead. We need dog licencing back. Yeah. Nancy licencing back. Yeah. Nancy creedon is joining us now. Shes a dog behaviour expert at a very good morning, nancy. What do you think a ban is even really practical and feasible and so many people are saying its not the dogs that are but the bad guys here. Its bad owners. What do you think . Do you think . I think first and foremost, it is such a complex topic. There are so many factors that are contributing to whats going on and an immediate blanket ban is going to be, like you said, not very feasible. I dont know where theyre going to put these thousands of dogs. I dont know how theyre expecting to get these cases through the these dog cases through the courts rule whether or not courts to rule whether or not this dog is an excel bully. And at the moment, theres something around a six month backlog of just pitbulls through around a six month backlog of justcourt pitbulls through around a six month backlog of justcourt system|lls through around a six month backlog of justcourt system|lls determine the court system to determine their the their breed. So the practicalities of it what is practicalities of it is what is immediately worrying, because are going blanket are they just going to blanket euthanize left, right and euthanize dogs left, right and Centre Without actually confirming dog confirming what breed the dog is, where the dogs are going to go and so on. So the logistics of it doesnt really make too much sense. Need to know much sense. We need to know more. More important than more. But more important than that effectiveness of that is the effectiveness of just banning a breed to stop dog attacks is from a behaviour point of view, foolish because were going to suddenly be banning certain dogs that are very friendly social dogs and were not actually tackling the issue which is out of control dogs of any size pose a threat. Yes, the bigger that dog is, the more significant the threat is going to be. And the lack of owner education and lack of pubuc owner education and lack of Public Education on what to do in these types of situations is where were falling down. I think mass massively. Okay, nancy, what about some other measures that people are getting this getting in touch with us this morning on gb news. Theyre saying we need to bring back dog licencing we have to establish who them. Law, who owns them. Dogs, by law, should leads on pavements should be on leads on pavements and also muzzles to be mandatory. Would be better mandatory. Would they be better measures than outright ban, measures than an outright ban, do or do we need the do you think, or do we need the ban, mind six out ban, bearing in mind six out of ten deaths are caused by this one alone . One breed alone . Yeah , i think that first and yeah, i think that first and foremost, yes. Licensing needs to come back along with at least a theory test so that all owners have a foundation of correct information far too many dog owners think they know about dogs, and its not until theyll come to a study with me that theyll realise how little they actually knew about and actually knew about dogs. And then, something simple then, yes, something as simple as to be muzzled and as dogs having to be muzzled and on theyre over a on a lead if theyre over a certain weight. Theyre certain weight. When theyre out in public, the first step. In public, is the first step. And dog cant do any and muzzles dog cant do any significant damage and its fairer. Theres so many bodies out there that are happy, friendly dogs and we cant punish all the dogs because some are response owners and some irresponsible breeders are creating these machines of dogs that theyre encouraging to behave aggressively. And its far more probable that theyre the dogs doing the fatalities. The dogs doing the fatalities. But we dont have the data. We do not know the background of each and every city location where these dogs are causing fatalities without that fatalities. And without that knowledge, we cant make educated decisions as nancy, well leave it there. Well leave it there. Thank you very much indeed. You make an interesting point because you think , how this because you think, how is this going to be policed . Yeah. How is this going to be monitored . Is this going to be monitored . Lets put that now to our next guest. Whos the shadow policing minister, alex norris very good morning to you. Morning to you. Good morning. Thanks for having me. Thank you. I know you want to talk about so much more, but these bully dogs are clearly its a real issue. The prime its a real issue. The Prime Minister has decided to act very fast and announce a ban. But you i mean, like anyone else, how do you see it working . You see it working . Well, we welcome what the Prime Minister said. We think that given what were seeing, you know, in that footage that youve just played earlier, its absolutely staggering. And so scary. That, you know , a scary. And that, you know, a ban, i believe, is inevitable is the right thing to do. It is right that a degree of time is being taken to identify the breed. But we do have to get on with and the prime with this. And the Prime Minister committed minister is committed to this happening of the year happening by the end of the year and be holding him to that. Okay. Another thing thats in the news, keir starmer is talking in montreal about talking about in montreal about people and terrorism people smuggling and terrorism being the four threats to being one of the four threats to the west. This week, course, the west. This week, of course, keir starmer showed some detail on labours immigration plan on on labours immigration plan and that involved a reciprocal deal with the european union. Now the tories were quick to jump now the tories were quick to jump on this. That could mean jump on this. That could mean the uk having to accept around 120,000 Illegal Immigrants from the eu bloc. What is your position on the criticism that your deal would mean net immigration to the uk would increase . Increase . Yeah. What the tories were talking about, there was a load of rubbish. Martin you know what we have is a anybody knows this people up and down the country know weve got a hopelessly broken system. That means that know weve got a hopelessly broken are em. That means that know weve got a hopelessly broken are em. Thaontoans that know weve got a hopelessly broken are em. Thaonto the that people are coming onto the beachesin people are coming onto the beaches in small boats. Obviously making exceptionally dangerous weve dangerous crossings. And weve got coming. And got no idea whos coming. And weve now got a backlog of 175,000 people to process. So 175,000 people to process. So the government, of course, when they see someone else coming up with solutions, realise that its huge failure its identified a huge failure of their leadership. So theyre of their leadership. So theyre starting to throw around numbers that have got no bearing in reality at all. Try and cover the fact that theyve completely failed to deliver. Theyre going to doing were going to keep doing that. Were going to keep doing that. Were going to solve problem. To try and solve the problem. Fair to say when but but its fair to say when weve approached macron before to have some sort of returns deal to france, he said, no, no, you need to talk to brussels on this. And thats what keir starmer says he is going to do. And people also are and other people also are concerned. Is keir starmer concerned. This is keir starmer cosying brussels as cosying up to brussels as somebody tried to cancel somebody who tried to cancel brexit the peoples vote for brexit in the peoples vote for three years. This an early three years. Is this an early indication closer ties with indication of closer ties with brussels . If labour were to get into power . Into power . No. Mark tufnell absolutely not. You know, yes, we left the european union. That is a subtle point. We havent left the continent of europe, which means that on issues such as this, we are to going have to talk to our neighbours. The eu perhaps, but definitely france. Obviously because of the geography, to have returns policies , to have fair returns policies, to be in situations where we want to avoid miners and entering the water in order for family reunion. But that is a long, long way away from anything thats been said. Were not oh, weve lost him. Weve lost him. Oh, oh, thats a shame. Oh, oh, thats a shame. I think keir starmer might have pulled the cable on that because it the reports were that there was going to be a deal with eu and the here go. With eu and the here we go. Were should we go back there we are. Sorry we lost we lost the signal just for second or two. Signal just for a second or two. Yeah what what were you making. What what were you making. So. Yeah, so. So you all denying then that there would be a reciprocal with the eu . A reciprocal deal with the eu . That completely at odds that seems completely at odds with how the press went with this . I you this . Yeah well, as i say, you know, it suited the government to to , and to distort to muddy it to, and to distort it, to try and cover the fact that they havent got any plans or plans. Start with smashing the criminal of course, criminal gangs, which of course, requires cooperation with our european neighbours through european neighbours through europe. All our plans involve europe. All our plans involve getting down the backlog from 175,000 is costing us multiple billions of pounds each year by hiring a thousand more high quality staff by implementing nightingale courts so we can deal with appeals very quickly. You know, these are proper, substantial plans. The government, of course, wants to say it means ten of the things that weve absolutely not said, but thats because theyre not serious. But i hope viewers can see serious about see we are very serious about doing thats why were doing this, and thats why were stepping and fix what stepping in to try and fix what is clearly a total mess. Can i ask you one more can i just ask you one more point that is going to grow and grow . I think i dont know if youve seen the Daily Telegraph this saying its leading this morning saying its leading with murdoch sunak not with murdoch team told sunak not to quit over partygate and apparently rishi sunak was prepared to quit when he realised that he was being prosecuted covid or being told that hed actually gone against the rules. There it is the front page of the telegraph and was was actually wrote a letter of resignation action. And the people who talked him out of it were from Rupert Murdochs team. What do you think of that . It makes you wonder whos running the country. Well, i read that like you are with a, you know, a degree of surprise when you said a story thats going to grow and grow. I thought youre going to talk about your previous segment on gardening in schools, which has very positive in has always been very positive in my glad mentioned that, too. Absolutely. Absolutely. This on this point but on this on this point with rishi sunak. I find with rishi sunak. I mean, i find it little bit hard to believe, it a little bit hard to believe, but that is the case, then it but if that is the case, then it does make you wonder about, you know, who, say, is in know, who, as you say, is in charge, what i do know is that keir was very clear that if hed been to have broken the been found to have broken the rules, have resigned. Rules, he would have resigned. I think the think perhaps thats the difference would draw difference that i would draw between rishi sunak and alex. Another story on the front page another story on the front page is the daily mail here, page is, is the daily mail here, labours 20 mile an hour limit is this, is beyond insane. This, of course, referring to whats course, is referring to whats happening in wales and mark happening in wales and the Mark Drakeford. People saying drakeford. Some people saying this an indication labour this is an indication of labour direction of travel. Pardon the pun, on the wall, on motor risks. Is this something that you would countenance for the rest of the uk along with the continued u turns and change of positions on things like ulez, which. Angela rayner said would come to every town in britain and then keir starmer denied no, you know, on the 20 mile an hour point that we dont have plans for a uk Labour Government to be mandating them. Mandating them. There are clearly places for them. We know that not least the government have been pushing it for many years. You know, penny morden, it was i think who said that . Well she has them in her own constituency. I dont recall her said it previously. Her having said it previously. So their we so they have their place. We wont be them. Of wont be mandating them. Of course a matter for course not. Its a matter for local they think local communities. If they think that their ability to that that suits their ability to get and keeps people get around and keeps people safe, them to safe, well, thats for them to decide. But no, i wouldnt decide. But but no, i wouldnt worry too much the big worry too much about the big headune headline there. Going leave it were going to leave it there. Thank you so much. There. Alex thank you so much. Alex norris mp, thank you for joining and having an joining us. And having an opinion on absolutely everything we threw you. We threw a lot we threw at you. We threw a lot of you today. Its of stuff at you today. Its really talk. You. Really good to talk. Thank you. Good. Its good for the its good. Its good for the growing scheme in schools like that. I i really i really that. I think i really i really love the idea. I do. Been talking i do. Weve been talking about we, since 6 00 about it, havent we, since 6 00 the. Yes the idea that we should teach gardening in schools. And teach gardening in schools. And i think it sounds like a brilliant idea and already youve been in touch with the examples of how when you were at school, you know , going out and school, you know, going out and even learning how to milk a cow. I think what a brilliant thing going a local farm. Yeah, going to a local farm. Yeah, farmers would like that. Yeah. Is dennis here in this is dennis here in secondary in 1950s this is dennis here in secowe|ry in 1950s this is dennis here in secowe did in 1950s this is dennis here in secowe did gardening 1950s this is dennis here in secowe did gardening at 950s this is dennis here in secowe did gardening at school. And we did gardening at school. The a plot school the school had a plot at school for vegetables. For growing vegetables. So i will say its nothing new. Probably for trendier probably dropped for trendier subjects and that true. And subjects and that is true. And also and safety reasons, also health and safety reasons, of course. Yes. And i think that would if thats true, thats terrible, isnt because gardening, isnt it . Because gardening, cooking how to do cooking and learning how to do things plug, things like changing a plug, i always think to how your always think to how pay your bills, manage money. Bills, how to manage money. Those are surely every those things are surely every bit as important as learning some of the other subjects. You know, in grade school. So do you agree . So do you agree . How do you fit it all into the working day . I suppose. Right. Going to move on. Right. Were going to move on. Its 7 19. Youre watching breakfast gb news. And breakfast here on gb news. And if youre about to pop out, take us with you in the car because you can just switch on the radio as well and catch us online wherever youre watching in the world. Lovely weekends world. Its lovely at weekends because we an because i think we do get an awful of emails from people awful lot of emails from people who are watching all over the world. Know where you are world. Let us know where you are and how youre watching us. Lets move to another very lets move on to another very concerning, worrying story for so many. Its about lucy letby , so many. Its about lucy letby, the child killer, the baby killer. Shes filed an application to appeal against her convictions. Letby was handed 14 whole life orders last month for murdering seven babies and attempting to murder six others. Well , attempting to murder six others. Well, earlier, we spoke to our north west of england. Reporter sophie reaper, its been 29 days now since lucy letby was found guilty of seven murders and seven counts of attempted murder. And we now know that she has indeed made a formal bid to appeal against those convictions last month, she earned the title of the worst serial killer of children in modern british history with justice goss, the judge presiding over the case telling her you acted in a way thatis telling her you acted in a way that is completely contrary to the normal human instinct of nurturing and caring for babies. Is he thus sentenced to her a whole life order which should mean she would spend the rest of her life in prison. However as we have heard from the court of appeal staff, that she she and her legal team have now made an application in to try and overturn all 14 of those convictions that she was found guilty of here at Manchester Crown court. Now this isnt as simple a process as just making an appeal. Instead, theyve had to make an application to do so , which will now be reviewed by a judge without a formal hearing. If that is then refused used, then lucy letby is within her rights to ask for that, to then go to a formal hearing and have it reviewed by typically 2 to 3 judges. So its often a lengthy and complex process. So it could and complex process. So it could be quite a while before we know a if the application to appeal is successful and b, if it is successful, what that then means for lucy letby Going Forward and its just a continuation of the awful agony that the parents and the survivors have gone through and, you know, its just dragging it out all over again, isnt it . Absolutely. And i isnt it . Absolutely. And i think that has been at the heart of the Crown Prosecution Service of the Crown Prosecution Service of Cheshire Police of the courts, making sure that the families feel that they are acknowledged throughout this entire process. Of course, not only this now, we still have the statutory inquiry to come in terms of lucy letby and what was going on at the countess of chester hospital. So for those families who were involved, it just it seems to just keep going. Well , lets take a look at well, lets take a look at some other stories coming into the newsroom this morning. The newsroom this morning. A new book claims that executives working for media mogul Rupert Murdoch persuaded rishi sunak not to quit as chancellor for breaking the lockdown laws. His governments implemented. Its not known whether mr murdoch spoke directly to the Prime Minister, but downing street sources deny that there was any communication. Donald trump has attacked his fellow republican president ial candidate, ron desantis , candidate, ron desantis, overnight. It happened at an event that was organised by the group concerned women for america. America. But on the sanctimonious, as you know, i got him elected. But now hes a failed candidate. He failed. He failed before, you know, he came in. I gave him an endorsement and we lifted him into victory. He was way, way behind. It was he was over the race was over. I endorsed him and like a rocket ship. And he went like a rocket ship. And he shortly and he won. Very shortly thereafter. And then i got him past the election. So i got him the nomination. Then i got him the nomination. Then i got him the nomination. Then i got him the election. He ran against a guy at the time who was is turned out to be a crackhead, but nobody that at the time i well, well, mr trump currently holds a 35 lead over the Florida Governor, and thats with christian voters. Apparently. Well, apparently the apparently. Well, apparently the weather is going to be absolutely perfect tonight for seeing the aurora borealis. Seeing the aurora borealis. Lets lets go to aiden and find out more. Out more. A brighter outlook with boxt solar proud sponsors of weather on. Gb news. On. Gb news. Hi there. Very good morning to you. Its Aidan Mcgivern here from the met office with the gb news forecast. A warm in the south once again today, cooler further north, but it turn further north, but it does turn dner further north, but it does turn drier time following the drier for a time following the damp weather that saw across damp weather that we saw across Northern England, southern and Central Scotland , as well as Central Scotland, as well as parts of Northern Ireland yesterday the yesterday, say the rain continues for time in this continues for a time in this part of the world. In the morning, but it does tend to peter out into the afternoon, a legacy of cloudy conditions here, brighter skies further south, but always the threat of some thundery showers through the day because its relatively humid air and temperatures peaking at 26 or 27 celsius, much cooler for northern scotland, although a bright day here, plenty of crisp september sunshine and we keep the clear skies in northern scotland overnight. Great conditions for viewing the aurora which is expected to be a good show tonight. Elsewhere, a lot of tonight. Elsewhere, a lot of cloud cover and increasingly humid air moving up from the south along with the risk of thundery showers. Temperatures in the south, 18 celsius. But northern scotland, a widespread frost as we start off sunday. So this marked temperature contrast continues. However the humid air in the south is travelling north. That means cloudier skies for many, but also an increase increasingly warm feel basically for much of scotland compared with the last few days. But not associated with that higher humidity. Weve got these heavy humidity. Weve got these heavy outbreaks of rain and thunderstorms moving north at the same time, highs of 22 celsius, a brighter outlook with boxt solar proud sponsors of weather on. Gb news, i presume weather on. Gb news, i presume aiden meant that youd see the aurora in scotland, but surely not further south. No, i think its worth having a look. But. But. Yeah, but thanks aiden. Im going to my cousin maxs today for a barbecue and the weather looks fantastic. I cant wait. Feels like one of the last days of summer. To grab it of summer. Im going to grab it with hands. This is gb news with both hands. This is gb news on online, and on your on your tv online, and on your radio. Please stay with us. Coming be having a coming up, well be having a great of whether its high hi there. Welcome back. Youre watching and listening to breakfast this morning with anne and martin. Now, big question if you look after children, if youve got any children of your own maybe or grandchildren , is own maybe or grandchildren, is it right to put your child on the naughty step when theyre naughty . Yeah, because an author has released a new book which challenges every aspect of modern parenting, which says putting children on the naughty step can damage forever. Step can damage them forever. It makes guilty. Wait for it of makes you guilty. Wait for it of childish childism what that means. Means. Were joined now by parenting expert sj strum and broadcaster claire muldoon. A very good claire muldoon. A very good morning to both of you. Thanks for joining us. Sj lets go to forjoining us. Sj lets go to you first. What do you think of the naughty step. Ive never the naughty step. Ive never done the naughty step. Im a huge sarah aukus smith advocate. I think that advocate. I think that discipline really means each and weve somehow made it mean to punish to way the person to actually have, you know, emotions and to have time at a time when you oh. Sj , sj, im time when you oh. Sj, sj, im so time when you oh. Sj , sj, im so sorry. The sj, sj, im so sorry. The sound coming from your computer or whatever it is, is making it almost impossible to hear what youre saying. Lets try again. I dont know whether you can lean yeah. Whether you can go a bit nearer to it or whatever just shy. How does it sound now i yeah. Yeah. Oh no, thats much better. Oh no, thats much better. Okay, lets do that again then, if you can. What do you think of the naughty step . The naughty step . Ive never done the naughty step. Okay im a huge sarah smith advocate. I think that discipline should be and it does need and somehow weve made it mean to send your child away by having them. They dont know what to do with it. We think. Isnt it at a time when they can actually get through it, we can help them to know. Sj, sj , im help them to know. Sj, sj, im so sorry. Here we go again. So sorry. Here we go again. How here we go again. How annoying is this . We try. Well try and find out from you exactly what youre trying to say a bit later. Again, if you can move much closer i think. But claire, where are you for or against the naughty step . And against the naughty step . And what do you think of this idea that it would harm children for life and that wed all be guilty of childism . Of childism . Do you know what i mean . This is just. Theres been so much talk of all this over the past couple of days. And what do you couple of days. And what do you think . Do you really think im not in favour of a naughty step . Of course i am. But lets not. It doesnt need to be called the naughty step. Childrens behaviour not evil at behaviour is either not evil at that surely because they behaviour is either not evil at that know1rely because they behaviour is either not evil at that know reallyyecause they behaviour is either not evil at that know really right;e they behaviour is either not evil at that know really right from ey dont know really right from wrong. Theyre not formed characters yet. Their character isnt built yet. And in order for us to do that, as carers, as parents, as as people who are looking after children in an environment whereby they have to be disciplined, they need to learn right from wrong and they need to know that what their behaviour sometimes is unsanctioned and is hurtful, is wrong and is not. And more importantly , will not be importantly, will not be tolerated. Now whether or not you say youre going on the naughty step, the fact is youre removing the child from the environment. Thats thats environment. Thats thats exhibiting behaviour thats not right. The reason schools were introduced, thousands of years ago, hundreds of years ago , was ago, hundreds of years ago, was to actually form discipline. Thats the reason why weve got schools and from that then the direct correlation from schools and discipline follows back into the home. Now there was a report yesterday in the times by the world, something or another to do with children , and its do with children, and its actually found that 42 has of parents of britons from a 3000 sample think now that discipline really isnt the most important thing or obedience. Sorry is not the most important thing to be taughtin the most important thing to be taught in in the home. And thats gone. Gone up or down, thats gone. Gone up or down, whichever way you want , from 19 whichever way you want, from 19 in the year 2000. So you wonder now from the parenting from lockdown the results of this in parenting styles and whats going to happen to the future of society are children. You know, we i mean, sarah uses the term child ism. I think thats a massive leap because she she she refers to that in a similar vein to racism , um, homophobia ism , to racism, um, homophobia ism, transphobia and all these isms. And thats really quite a powerful statement. Children are not formed. How on earth can you want a child to become Prime Minister . Want them to vote, want them to be model citizens. If they do not know where their place is in society . Okay, claire, were going to have to form an intervention of our own here and we have to leave it there, im afraid. Claire and sorry about the technical issues there with. With sj sound, but fascinating debate. Let us know what you think out there. Ive used the naughty step with my kids. They understand it when kids, parents. Surprising thing is they sit on it and take the punishment they on it and take the punishment the when you adults trying to when you see adults trying to have a rational, intelligent, grown with grown up conversation with a with a toddler, thats basically a whether a chimpanzee, see whether whether that red zone. You whether in that red zone. Do you know you cant call know what i mean . You cant call a toddler a chimpanzee. Know what i mean . You cant call a t doler a chimpanzee. Know what i mean . You cant call a t do you chimpanzee. Know what i mean . You cant call a t do you knowpanzee. Know what i mean . You cant call a t do you know what e. Know what i mean . You cant call a t do you know what i mean . Do you know what i mean . Do you know what i mean . They into that . When they get into that . When they get into that . What you mean when i know what you mean when they get thrown a tantrum, its complete kind of red zone rage. Theres no reason. Theres no reason. Us what you anyway, let us know what you think. Views gbnews. Com now, think. Gb views gbnews. Com now, theres very important current theres a very Important Current Affairs program on Affairs Program going out on channel its called channel 4 tonight. Its called dispatches. An awful dispatches. Its done an awful lot incredible work actually lot of incredible work actually in past. Very highly in the past. Its very highly thought but at the moment thought of, but at the moment everybodys talking about what it may be in that programme. This evening, Stephanie Takyi joins us now. Hi, steph. Good morning. I imagine the morning. I imagine the twittersphere or whatever we call it nowadays is buzzing. Call it nowadays is buzzing. Whats going on . Can you explain and can you explain where Russell Brand comes in . Well, it hasnt been no laughing matter for the comedy industry over the past few days because theres been talk of this channel dispatches this channel 4 Dispatches Programme tonight , which is set programme tonight, which is set to expose of high profile to be an expose of high profile comedians whove had shocking allegations which have been held up against them, and some of these allegations have never been heard by the public. But in this programme theyve got three years worth of footage. And from what ive learnt from sources , what ive learnt from sources, its not just one comedian, its an array of comedians that are set to be named tonight. Russell brand. He has come out with a brand. He has come out with a twitter video saying that hes been approached by an i cant name the newspaper, and i cant name the newspaper, and i cant name the newspaper, and i cant name the tv station whove approached him with damaging allegations which he says are highly criminal. Hes jumped ahead of the game. He says that he denies all these allegations. I do he denies all these allegations. I do not he denies all these allegations. I do not know if Russell Brand will be named tonight, but clearly he wants to say hes not guilty of any of the offences which are going to come tonight. We have clip of russell we have a clip of russell talking now , this isnt the talking now, this isnt the usual type video we make on usual type of video we make on this channel where critique , this channel where we critique, attack the news in attack and undermine the news in all its corruption. Because in this story i am the news received two the news ive received two extremely disturbing letters or a letter and an email, one from a letter and an email, one from a Mainstream Media tv company, one from a newspaper owner listing a litany of extremely egregious and aggressive attacks, as well as some pretty stupid stuff like my Community Festival should be stopped that i shouldnt be able to attack Mainstream Media narratives on this channel. But amidst this utany this channel. But amidst this litany of astonishing rather baroque attacks are some very serious allegations. Serious allegations. And we dont know at this stage what any of it is. Hes Russell Brand is a very controversial character. And as controversial character. And as he made light in the video, hes had a lot of battles with both drink, drugs and sex. And he says some of these allegations, which he does speak about, comes from a time when he was quite promiscuous. And Russell Brand has never made light of that before. And hes before. And he says hes mentioned that hes made it and hes mentioned in books hes mentioned that in his books and shows. So we only have and his shows. So we only have to wait and see whether these two are going to be linked between that programme two are going to be linked betvwhat hat programme two are going to be linked betvwhat russelljramme two are going to be linked betvwhat russelljrammyis and what Russell Brand is talking about this video. Talking about in this video. Okay fascinating, isnt it . Fascinating, isnt it . It is, yes. it is, yes. Itll get a lot of viewers, i imagine, because i think youll want Russell Brand want to know why Russell Brand is out the he is is speaking out the way he is and what its all about. But well leave it there for the moment and well be taking a quick break in a couple of moments, well be joined our headline. We are aware of the pain that that was the show, so well do that was the show, so well do that next time. Yeah, exactly. Next hello again. Welcome back welcome back 742 yeah. Joining us now to go through some of the days headunesis go through some of the days headlines is journalist and author susan holder and the Political Editor of the huffpost uk, kevin schofield. Welcome uk, kevin schofield. Welcome back to both of you. Kev, this back to both of you. Kev, this is one that will get your juices flowing. And Rupert Murdoch allegedly told sunak not to quit and ask the big question earlier, whos actually running the country . Well, i mean, its a great story. So this has come from ben riley smith, whos a Political Editor of the telegraph. Hes written new on the written a new book on the conservatives 13 years power written a new book on the consheatives 13 years power written a new book on the conshe hasas 13 years power written a new book on the conshe has discovered power written a new book on the conshe has discovered that ywer written a new book on the conshe has discovered that ifer and he has discovered that if you cast your mind back to when rishi sunak was fined for breaking lockdown rules, apparently he drafted a resignation letter. He was ready to go and word got back to Rupert Murdoch that this was going to happen. And he let it be known that he did not want rishi sunak, who was chancellor at time, resign. So he at the time, to resign. So he didnt. Now, it doesnt explain why murdoch was so against the idea. I can only imagine its idea. I can only imagine its because he had given up on Boris Johnson by this point and probably thought that sunak would be a good replacement and if he was to resign, then his choice. Yeah, dont worry about what the voters think. But. But they always used to say, didnt they, whenever there was a new Prime Minister in downing street, the first person to be ianed invited into number 10 for coffee was Rupert Murdoch. Yeah , and its true that he yeah, and its true that he has had an enormous amount of influence, not just with conservative Prime Ministers, but also with tony blair, obviously. I mean gordon brown as well wasnt was very aware that he had to try and keep rupert on side and the sun on side. If you could , because so are they could, because so are they saying in this that murdoch sent his people around 10 his people around to number 10 or number i think word was or number 11 . I think word was passed now, what they say is passed on. Now, what they say is that it was the intermediary here where friends of sunak who have connections to news uk. Now they point out that william hague, as a columnist for the times , rishi sunak was his times, rishi sunak was his protege. He was a successor as mp for richmond. Daniel finkelstein. Sorry who is a conservative peer, has also writes for the times. So theyre saying maybe those were the sort of intermediary is and as i say, what was passed back from new york where Rupert Murdoch was to say, apparently rishi sunak had actually the letter. Actually written the letter. Yeah, i mean, i remember it time briefed by his time it was briefed by his people that he was seriously considering resigning. Considering resigning. But it was decided by his advisers that actually thats probably going to scupper your chances of becoming Prime Minister. Before we go to sues kev, back in the day, you know, murdoch was always considered the king maker. You know, he chose the next Prime Minister. Do you think thats still relevant in the days of the internet where we seem to get we get news from more get our news from much more diverse range sources. Its diverse range of sources. Its the what winning . Yeah. The sun. What winning . Yeah. Does that still work . So. I mean, i dont think so. I mean, i dont know what sun sells dont know what the sun sells these but its obviously these days, but its obviously much less than it the much less than it did the newspaper anyway. Think it was newspaper anyway. I think it was always. Played sun, always over. Played the sun, obviously liked to say it was a sun. What won it . I think no doubt it was influenced will and they always made that they they always made sure that they backed the winner. Yeah and i think was slightly over gb think it was slightly over gb news they decided to back news when they decided to back tony blair. News when they decided to back tonabsolutely. Absolutely absolutely. Absolutely absolutely. Absolutely also when was dumped, when they gordon brown, they they dumped gordon brown, they dumped the dumped gordon brown during the labour to back Labour Party Conference to back david which caused a david cameron, which caused a huge at time. Itll huge furore at the time. Itll be interesting to see who be very interesting to see who they back. Actually, if looks they back. Actually, if it looks like labour are definitely going to next election, will to win the next election, will they back labour time . Will they back labour next time . Will they . Knows . They . Who knows . I think it is being i mean i think it is being sold as a story as that murdoch is roy from succession is the logan roy from succession figure, which makes kind figure, which makes it all kind of a more kind of of sound a bit more kind of interesting and sexy, but actually he, i mean, sure actually he, i mean, im sure also know sunak was having also know rishi sunak was having lots conversations lots of conversations with lots of people, hoping our of people, and im hoping our Prime Minister is able to make up his own mind, but he may well cast a range opinions. And cast a range of opinions. And yes , so and that could just be yes, so and that could just be one in the mix, couldnt it . So i think, you know, to overplay it and its all down to it and say its all down to that, we will not know anyway, can i you something that i can i show you something that i havent you say is havent seen yet but you say is really, really because really, really cute because today Rosh Hashanah and the today is Rosh Hashanah and the royal family have released a video on twitter of the king charles dancing with local members of the Jewish Community. Apparently, this is really worth watching. Worth watching. On your side. On your side. How many. On your side. How many. Times at wonder . How many. Times at wonder . I think i think its absolutely adorable. Absolutely adorable. And i think charles comes over genuinely as a really great guy over genuinely as a really great guy , actually, when he does guy, actually, when he does things like that. And we were things like that. And we were talking about this, we had a little look at it before, didnt we . We were kind of talking about how lucky we i think about how lucky we are. I think that have got charles when that we have got charles when we think we could have think about what we could have gone and actually when you look down lines of where down the kind of lines of where where could have gone is where things could have gone is there something in the fact that there something in the fact that the the kind of the number twos in the kind of order how theyre born, so we order of how theyre born, so we could margaret but we could have had margaret but we got we could have had got elizabeth. We could have had andrew, but we got charles so we could william but we could be getting william but we could be getting william but we could had harry and is it could have had harry and is it to the fact that that to do with the fact that that way lot the responsibility way lot of the responsibility thats put on them makes them rise to an occasion . Or is it that the fact that if youre second in line, actually second in line, that actually you go a bit crazy, or is it a combination of a bit of both . I think charles a good guy and think charles is a good guy and i think comes over as a good i think he comes over as a good guy that. Guy in that. Yeah, definitely. Yes. Yeah, definitely. Yes. Yeah, definitely. I can see why theyve put that out because it makes it look like game for a laugh. Look like hes game for a laugh. Sense humour getting stuck in sense of humour getting stuck in and isnt it. And its really sweet isnt it. Yeah. All people yeah. Theres all people you know, as say, dad dancing know, as you say, dad dancing this and nothing wrong this morning and nothing wrong with because its with dad as well because its not polished, its not not polished, but its not a massive thing. It just it massive pr thing. It just it makes them look slightly awkward. But thats okay. But thats okay. It is okay. Totally are you feeling well . It is okay. Totally are you feeiits well . It is okay. Totally are you feeiits relatable, it . Its relatable, isnt it . Thats of. He looks thats every sort of. He looks like at a wedding and he like dad at a wedding and he doesnt he doesnt look like hes it grudgingly in any hes doing it grudgingly in any way. He looks like hes. Thats what here and im going what im here for. And im going to it. To do it. The way, if youre by the way, if youre listening on radio, youve listening on the radio, youve missed it. But missed the you missed it. But yeah, was the king charles, yeah, it was the king charles, just as we dad dancing. Just as we said, dad dancing. Yeah. With members of local yeah. With members of the local jewish theyre all Jewish Community and theyre all having a time they having a whale of a time they were very dad dancing, were but its very dad dancing, thats yeah but its lovely thats all. Yeah but its lovely thats all. Yeah but its lovely that hes prepared release that hes prepared to release that hes prepared to release that a laugh at himself. Yeah. Yeah. He makes me look like and he makes me look like michael on to a michael flatley. Susan, on to a more topic. Of course, more serious topic. Of course, the arrests of Daniel Khalife and a news story coming out here about the state of the prison at the time. People were absent from work. Well, not just people. According to the daily mirror and im absolutely gobsmacked. And im absolutely gobsmacked. 80 members of staff didnt turn up on the day that he escaped from wandsworth prison. So, yeah , a tory minister has said that the Staffing Levels were still above the minimum required , above the minimum required, which kind of boggles the brain a bit. Well, what are the a bit. Well, what are the minimum levels . But yeah, so of 125 band three prison officers attended their shift. But but obviously 39 of the frontline staff did not turn up. Theyre not booked holiday it doesnt say its not like its scheduled in that this is just why the Staffing Levels were didnt turn and i just think this speaks to this incredible culture we have at the moment of no shows. How many times do you go for a train and actually you train too delayed because the driver hasnt turned up. The airports are in last week because are in chaos last week because air control staff didnt air Traffic Control staff didnt turn arent people on turn up. These arent people on strike. These arent people who have scheduled or booked day have scheduled or booked a day off whatever they need to do off for whatever they need to do or for holiday or they how many people phone doing people are on the phone doing that . Cant come in today . I that . Cant come in today . I dont very it must be just dont feel very it must be just like an epidemic of that and it makes you wonder of the next question. Obviously is going to be did this have an impact . This this have an impact . Did this understaffing mean that he could make much easier . Make his escape much easier . Well it cant have helped. You would imagine. Its you would imagine. And its remarkable that its remarkable that maybe only one in person has escaped. Maybe if they were has escaped. Maybe if they were if realised how short if they realised how short staffed the prison was, then morton trying. Morton would be trying. We all have to think i think we all have to think about as well is if the prison continues run they if they continues to run or they if they if they cover those absences, what youre doing is youre talking kind talking yourself very, very kind of out of your job. Of smartly out of your job. Because people people because if people if people actually are we paying all actually why are we paying all these actually these people if were actually we function i mean, we can function on i mean, i dont think things are functioning very well. But if they around that, all they find a way around that, all youre doing calling sick youre doing by calling in sick all is actually telling all the time is actually telling people that youre not necessary to your position. So i think very carefully, youre of very carefully, if youre one of those astonishing, those people, astonishing, astonishing care, this is another politically astonishing care, this is anotyoure politically astonishing care, this is anotyoure going politically astonishing care, this is anotyoure going to olitically astonishing care, this is anotyoure going to youre. Ly that youre going to youre going to love. This is a perpetual one that does the rounds and back does the rounds and its back again. Planned slash again. Labour planned to slash the to 16 if they the voting age to 16 if they win. Yes this is labour bigwigs met so this is labour bigwigs met a few weeks ago to decide on their policies for the next election and this was this was their policies for the next elecofn and this was this was their policies for the next elecofn and that was this was their policies for the next elecofn and that w. Labournas their policies for the next elecofn and that w. Labour win one of them that if labour win the election they will reduce the election they will reduce the down to the voting age from 18 down to 16. And i mean, theyve done this in scotland and the snp did it. Did it for the scottish it. They did it for the scottish referendum. Now the only reason that because that parties do this is because they think it will give them an electoral advantage. Now obviously quite work obviously it didnt quite work out terms the scottish out in terms of the Scottish Independence referendum, but out in terms of the scottish irmean, dence referendum, but out in terms of the scottish irmean, den 16,aferendum, but out in terms of the scottish irmean, den 16,afeyeaer, but out in terms of the scottish irmean, den 16,afeyearolds, but out in terms of the scottish irmean, den 16,afeyear olds, is but i mean, the 16, 17 year olds, is there huge clamour among them there a huge clamour among them for the vote . For the vote . Well, the thinking behind it is labour think is the Labour Party Think younger people are more likely to vote them in general . To vote for them in general . Is probably true. That is probably true. That is probably true. On the one hand, it probably its a bit of a electoral its a bit of a direct electoral play its a bit of a direct electoral play but then again, play for votes, but then again, the among young people the turnout among young people is isnt it . Is very low, isnt it . Yeah, i guess theyre probably at the moment. The turnout is zero because the turnout is zero because they cant so any ones they cant vote. So any ones that turn up, the majority of that do turn up, the majority of them, they reckon will vote labouh them, they reckon will vote labour. The good labour. So its all to the good as far as labour concerned, but it is, i think, pretty cynical, although i have to say ive had to laugh greg hands the to laugh at greg hands the conservative party chairman, saying want saying that labour only want to do their own political do this for their own political advantage. Well, voter id was brought and rees mogg brought in and Jacob Rees Mogg even was even admitted it that was brought try and give the brought in to try and give the conservatives an electoral advantage. So i as as advantage. So i think as bad as each you think, susan, that 16 do you think, susan, that 16 year olds are mindful enough of the of things like the detail of things like brexit, policies to brexit, immigration policies to vote, is 18 the right age, do vote, or is 18 the right age, do you think probably is the i think 18 probably is the right age. I dont think there is actually. I mean, ive worked with people for with young people for years. I had a taught a Youth Theatre, ran a Youth Theatre for 11 to 18 year i think there are year olds. I think there are some of smartest people ive some of the smartest people ive ever met. They also are ever met. I think they also are very honest. You know you very honest. You know where you are that age. Are with people of that age. They of tell it like it is, they kind of tell it like it is, which i love, but im not sure that they do. But i think i think they would very kind of think they would be very kind of key issues. Think they key on some issues. I think they know and everything. Know education and everything. Theyd have much more of a handle on than of us do, handle on than most of us do, but dont think theres but i dont think theres necessarily that. Necessarily a clamour for that. And i do think as well, if you gave them, how of gave it to them, how many of them would actually bother to go and that would be the and do that would be the question i have. Yeah question i would have. Yeah well, they to question i would have. Yeah to well, they to question i would have. Yeah to the well, they to question i would have. Yeah to the theatre, they to question i would have. Yeah to the theatre, they to question i would have. Yeah to the theatre, they wonto question i would have. Yeah to the theatre, they wont be go to the theatre, they wont be able it. According to able to afford it. According to the guardian. Its interesting. Well, yes, its interesting. Thats you put it that is thats how you put it that is how guardian kind of are how the guardian kind of are selling of the story. Selling the top of the story. But you further but if you read further down, its all news. So its not all bad news. So theyve gone on the line that sarah sex Sarah Jessica parker of sex and the city fame coming to the the city fame is coming to the west with her real life west end with her real life husband, matthew broderick. And theyre simon theyre doing the neil simon play is play plaza suite, which is a great the top ticket great play. And the top ticket for which kind of for that, which is kind of theyre featured at theyre featured in yellow at theyre featured in yellow at the the page, £395. It the top of the page, £395. First, lets look at the weather lets take a look at the weather with like things are heating looks like things are heating up. Boilers, proud up. Boxed boilers, proud sponsors of weather on. Gb news. Sponsors of weather on. Gb news. Hi there. Very good morning hi there. Very good morning to you. Its Aidan Mcgivern here from the met office with the gb news forecast. Very warm in the south once today, cooler south once again today, cooler further north, but it does turn dner further north, but it does turn drier time following the drier for a time following the damp weather saw across damp weather that we saw across Northern England, southern and Central Scotland , as well as Central Scotland, as well as parts of Northern Ireland yesterday the yesterday day. The rain continues a time in this continues for a time in this part of the world in the morning, but it does tend to peter out into the afternoon a legacy of cloudy conditions here. Brighter skies further south, but always the threat of some thundery showers through the day because as its relatively humid, air and temperatures peaking at 26 or 27 celsius, much cooler for northern scotland, although a bright day here, plenty of crisp september sunshine and we keep the clear skies in northern scotland overnight. Great conditions for viewing the aurora, which is expected to be aurora, which is expected to be a good show tonight. Elsewhere with lots of cloud cover and increasingly humid air moving up from the south along with the risk of thundery showers as temperatures in the south 18 celsius. But northern scotland, a widespread frost as we start off sunday. So this marked temperature contrast continues. However the humid air in the south is travelling north. That means cloudier skies for many, but also an increase increasingly warm feel. Basically for much of scotland compared with the last few days, but associated with that higher humidity weve got these heavy outbreaks of rain and thunderstorms moving north. At the same time , highs of 22 celsius. Looks like things are heating up. Box boilers, proud sponsors of weather on government is going to ban those dogs by the end of the year after many people have died after many people have died after attacks. After attacks. And sir keir starmer says he believes terrorism, Climate Change, criminal people smuggling gangs and threats to democracy are the major challenges for the western world. Labour also says it will solve the channel migrant crisis. While the government failed. While the government failed. The government, of course, when they see someone else coming up with solutions , coming up with solutions, realise that identified realise that its identified a huge failure of their leadership. So theyre starting to throw around numbers that have got no bearing in reality at all. Try and cover the fact that theyve completely failed to deliver where theyre going to deliver where theyre going to doing were going to keep doing that. Were going to keep doing that. Were going to the problem. To try and solve the problem. Killer lucy letby has baby killer lucy letby has filed an application to appeal against her convictions. She against her convictions. She was, of course, handed 14 a whole life orders last month. Its often a lengthy and complex process. Yes. So it complex process. Yes. So it could be quite a while before we know. Eh . If the application to appealis know. Eh . If the application to appeal is successful all and b if it is successful , what that if it is successful, what that then means for lucy letby Going Forward. Forward. And well also have a look at todays weather with aiden still some warm, sunny spells around today, but through the weekend , today, but through the weekend, the humidity is climbing, pressure is lowering and theres an increased risk of thundery showers developing, especially tonight and tomorrow. Find out more in the Weather Forecast. Forecast. Well, its good to be with you im diamond. You. Im anne diamond. Im daubney and and im Martin Daubney and this is breakfast on gb news. Well be talking about those xl bully dogs in a short while. Bnan xl bully dogs in a short while. Brian says another reaction taking too long. How many other people will be killed waiting for a new law . Yeah, and jim say hes quite bluntly licencing and muzzling outdoors should be mandatory. Outdoors should be mandatory. I think so, dont you . For those sort of dogs of a certain weight , a those sort of dogs of a certain weight, a certain build and a certain breed. And vera says certain breed. And vera says these bully dogs are used by most owners as weapons , just most owners as weapons, just like knives or guns. And i think like knives or guns. And i think thats true. Theres no doubt some people are weapons using those dogs. Theyre deliberately breeding them to be gang dogs , breeding them to be gang dogs, to be vicious. And they do seem to attract a certain type of owner. Theres a whole conversation about, is it the dogs , is it nature or is it the dogs, is it nature or is it nurture . Betty in dorset says, this great point all dogs are dangerous if not trained properly, chihuahuas. Properly, including chihuahuas. My properly, including chihuahuas. My son was bitten by one recently. Some of these dogs are kept to instil fear and kept purely to instil fear and are trained to be aggressive. Are trained to be aggressive. But it is generally the owners who are at fault. Who are at fault. And well, its the owners who choose to have dogs like that. Pauline. Thank you, pauline says if these bully dogs are banned , if these bully dogs are banned, they will become more of a status symbol to thugs, etcetera. Muzzle is much the better option. And david in lincolnshire taken a hard line approach. I fully agree that these dogs should be culled. There is no reason anyone should want these as pets. Some people buy them purely as status symbols. Purely as status symbols. Yes, i think thats very true and thats another problem, isnt it . If you were out and you saw one of these bully dogs just on the lead and not muzzled and you pointed that out, i think youd be very frightened of what the owner might do or say back at you. Thats right. And i said, theres one in my local park and theres one in my local park and the dog powerful that when the dog is so powerful that when it just wants to go anywhere, it pulls its owner along like its a tractor. And this is a fully grown not control grown guy. Hes not in control of when it wants to go of that dog when it wants to go somewhere, it goes. Somewhere, it just goes. Weve been talking about whether gardening should be brought whether brought into school, whether children should learn gardening at school. John in stoke says, at school. John in stoke says, im aged 84. We used to be taught a lot of practical skills when i went to school, like gardening, science , carpentry, gardening, science, carpentry, metalwork, etcetera , right up to metalwork, etcetera, right up to leaving school at 815. I love this because they have a golden club in my daughters school. She absolutely loves it. Anthea as a teacher, anthea echoes that as a teacher, i always after school i always had an after School Gardening club. Several pupils went horticulture went on to study horticulture here when they left school and started gardening started their own gardening businesses learners , businesses for learners, particularly those with learning difficulties. Was difficulties. Gardening was hugely therapeutic. Therapy. Yeah. Just its therapy. Yeah. Just really calm down. Well, the point has been made. Front page point has been made. Front page of telegraph, i think today of the telegraph, i think today by carter. Hes by the actorjim carter. Hes the butler in Downton Abbey. And his wife, Imelda Staunton, who is, of course, the queen in the crown and didnt know they were married, actually. But there you go. And they are. Theyre starting a Little Campaign to get gardening into schools because they think it would be so good for young people. And by the sound of it, you seem to agree. Yeah. And also on passports, i got my nice shiny new passport there. I think its dark blue. Some think its black. Some people think its black. Thanks to you viewers out there. Could just go could you say, martin, just go to post office, apply in to a post office, apply in person. Youll it in person. Youll have it in a week. I got this baby in six days. A fantastic service. And glennis in swansea with the Passport Office is, of course, we the post office for we went to the post office for ours we them back in ours and we had them back in less weeks. Of less than two weeks. Best of all, we have the queen on ours. Good his good one. Mines got his majesty. His britannic majesty. So ive got a king one. So ill have a look at your picture. Its horrible. Its horrible. Its horrible. It . Its horrible. It . Yeah. Its horrible. Is it . Yeah. Its horrible. Is it . Yeah. Its dreadful. Oh, its dreadful. Oh, its dreadful. Look like thug. About look like a thug. Sorry about that. At shes honest. That. At least shes honest. Yeah, mine terrible well, yeah, mine is terrible too. Well, yeah, mine is terrible too absolutely dreadful. Yeah, absolutely dreadful. Yeah, right. Lets get back to the right. Lets get back to the excel bully dogs, shall we . And the Prime Minister has vowed to ban these xl bully dogs after a man was very recently mauled to death. And the video message rishi sunak said that such attacks could not be allowed to continue i yeah. Lets have a quick look at how we actually got here. Out of control dog attacks have risen significantly in recent years, and this breed , recent years, and this breed, the xl bully, was behind six of ten fatal attacks in the last year as the xl bully, a variant of the american bully breed is thought to have been brought to the uk in around 2014. Footage the uk in around 2014. Footage of an xl bully dog attacking people in the street in birmingham , including an 11 year birmingham, including an 11 Year Old Girl , birmingham, including an 11 Year Old Girl, prompted demands for the dog to be banned. The 11 Year Old Girl caught up in this attack suffered shoulder and arm injuries on friday, it was confirmed a man in stonnall had died after an attack by two dogs, with residents suggesting they may have been xl bullies. They may have been xl bullies. And that was swiftly followed by this announcement from the Prime Minister earlier today. I have tasked ministers to bnng i have tasked ministers to bring together police and experts to firstly define the breed of dog behind these attacks with a view to then outlawing it. It is not outlawing it. It is not currently a breed defined in law, so this vital first step must happen fast. We will then ban the breed under the dangerous dogs act and new laws will be in place by the end of the year. These dogs are dangerous. I want to reassure the public that we will take all necessary steps to keep people safe. The Dog Control Coalition, which includes the rspca, opposes the ban and has called on the government to focus on the enforcement of responsible dog ownership. Dog ownership. Ellie costello. Gb news well, ellie costello. Gb news well, lets speak now to animal behaviourist jordan shelley for his view. Good morning to you, jordan. Good morning to you, jordan. The figures seem to be irrefutable here. 60 of attacks , People Killed by dogs are bully xls, despite the fact theyre only 1 of the dog population. 11 confirmed deaths population. 11 confirmed deaths since 2021. Do you support rishi sunak when he calls for a ban on this breed . This breed . Good morning. No, i dont support rishi sunak when he calls for a ban on this type because its not a breed. Theres such a huge variation within type as well that its really difficult to define. I mean, some of these dogs go from anywhere from 39 kilos up to 60 kilos or a completely different shapes and sizes. We dont actually ban breed this actually ban breed in this country. Ban types of dogs. So thats based around physical characteristics rather than genetics and dna. And i think genetics and dna. And i think its really problematic. Were going to capture all other types of breeds that look of cross breeds that look similar to this type of dog. I think wed be much more sensible similar to this type of dog. I think ford be much more sensible similar to this type of dog. I think for ane much more sensible similar to this type of dog. I think for an approachiore sensible similar to this type of dog. I think for an approach of; sensible going for an approach of licencing and education. I think thats really key. You know, putting that the emphasis on licencing and education and thats my dog, basil. Hes gorgeous. I know a lot of people will a lot of owners will say, oh, but theyre lovely placid dogs. If you know what youre doing, what makes a lovely placid dog suddenly turn . Because its go on. Its often not sudden. Theres often many , many. Theres often many, many. Theres often many, many. Theres often many, many. Theres often many. So signs and triggers beforehand that the dog is going to turn. Youve usually theres some neglect or abuse that the dog has been through. Lots of these dogs are mutilated illegally. If you look , for illegally. If you look, for example, at the case with that poor boy that lost his life in caerphilly. Listen, you caerphilly. Jack, listen, you look footage of the dog look at the footage of the dog beforehand and you could see that it was outside shops being used to terrorise people. And used to terrorise people. And then when it wasnt doing what then when it wasnt doing what the it was being the guy wanted, it was being beaten the head. I mean, it beaten on the head. I mean, it was obvious that something was going there. And i going to happen there. And so i really think we should try really think that we should try and stopping and focus on stopping these people owning dogs in people from owning the dogs in the place. I think thats the first place. I think thats the first place. I think thats the only not going the only way were not going back having this conversation, john, slightly larger back having this conversation, john and slightly larger back having this conversation, johnand 4 slightly larger back having this conversation, johnand 4 or slightly larger back having this conversation, john and 4 or 5lightly larger back having this conversation, john and 4 or 5 years larger back having this conversation, john and 4 or 5 years time. R back having this conversation, john and 4 or 5 years time. Yeah dog and 4 or 5 years time. Yeah but jordan, such approaches, you know, on education, on know, relying on education, on responsible owners of responsible dog owners of keeping on leads that keeping them on leads that relies owners relies upon the owners themselves being responsible. And its fair to say that this of dog does this this breed of dog does typically tend to attract the sort of person that might not care responsible care about being responsible like sure. Like that for sure. I completely agree. And so my other work is with animal licencing wales. I work in licencing wales. I work in licencing and i think its really important to understand that even if the irresponsible people dont get a licence , the people dont get a licence, the very nature of the fact that they dont get a licence would let us as enforced monk go into their property and remove their dog prosecute them. So i dog and prosecute them. So i think they a licence think whether they get a licence or it will give the or not, it will give us the powers that need to deal with powers that we need to deal with this problem. Yeah. And theres no doubt if, ahead with if, if they go ahead with banning them which presumably banning them, which presumably means euthanizing those that are already around , theres im already around, theres im afraid the sounds cut out. I cant hear anything. I cant hear anything. I cant hear anything. Oh, well, well leave it there. Jordan because were having sound problems. A bit from your end, too, so thanks very much. He obviously cant hear me say that. Yeah, sorry. We appear to have quite a few sound problems this morning. The thing im really keen to find out, if anybody knows out there, let know how there, please let us know how many dogs are there in many of these dogs are there in britain. That there britain. I could find that there are 1 of british dogs. If you talk about a mass ko, i mean, its going to be thousands of animals that need to be put down. I just dont see that happening. Do you . And that that dog owners will not up with dog owners will not put up with that . No. I mean thats like a mass euthanasia. And anyway, as as he said, jordan said the you cant prove that it jordan said the you cant prove thatitis jordan said the you cant prove that it is that sort of dog because is a breed. It is because it is not a breed. It is a cross breed. What do you have to measure them, weigh them, to do, measure them, weigh them, or to a certain or do they have to a certain criteria before they considered dangerous . I mean, its a minefield and it a minefield we it is maybe its a minefield we have to face. Maybe dog owners have got to actually a local vet , actually go to a local vet, register their dog. And if the if the vet thinks thats a dodgy dog, then they have to be an investigations. And you have to investigations. And you have to prove that you are a responsible owner. A lot of people are saying bnng a lot of people are saying bring him back. Dog licencing, muzzle them in always on muzzle them in public, always on leads. But muzzle them in public, always on leads. But again, that relies on people responsible. And people being responsible. And its say of these its fair to say a lot of these owners dont seem to be that. No, they dont, do they . Right. Move on. Its just right. Well move on. Its just coming youre coming up to 8 12. Youre watching and listening. I hope to gb news breakfast now. Lucy letby. Well, shes filed an letby. Well, shes filed an application to appeal against her convictions. She was, of course, the baby killer. Yeah. Letby was handed 14 whole life orders last month for murdering seven babies and attempting to murder six others. Well , attempting to murder six others. Well, earlier on, when it was dark, actually, we spoke to our north west of england. Reporter sophie reaper, its been 29 days now since lucy letby was found guilty of seven murders and seven counts of attempted murder i and we now know that she has indeed made a formal bid to appeal against those convictions. Last month , she convictions. Last month, she earned the title of the worst serial killer of children in modern british history with justice goss, the judge presiding over the case, telling her, you acted in a way that is completely contrary to the normal human instinct of nurturing and caring for babies. He thus sentenced her to a whole life order, which should mean she would spend the rest of her life in prison. However, we have heard from the court of appeals staff that she she and her legal team have now made an application to try and overturn all 14 of those convictions that she was found guilty of here at Manchester Crown court. Now, Manchester Crown court. Now, this isnt as simple a process as just making an appeal. Instead, theyve had to make an application to do so, which will now be reviewed by a judge without a formal hearing. If thatis without a formal hearing. If that is then refused, then lucy letby is within her rights to ask for that, to then go to a formal hearing and have it reviewed by typically 2 to 3 judges. So its often a lengthy and complex process. So it could be quite a while before we know a if the application to appeal is successful and b, if it is successful, what that then means for lucy letby Going Forward. For lucy letby Going Forward. And its just a continue location of the awful agony that the parents and the survivors have gone through. And, you have gone through. And, you know, its just dragging it out all over again, isnt it . So for those families who were involved al fayed, it just it seems to just keep going. And there you have it. Yes, and there you have it. Yes, the lucy letby case goes on. I mean, we know that. Well, there mean, we know that. Well, there are actually there were going to they were going to say that they were looking into 4000 other baby deaths that could be linked to lucy letby. So i suppose the case was always going to go on and on. But now with her filing for an application to get an appeal, for an application to get an appeal , those poor parents who appeal, those poor parents who went through so much ten months of that court case they went through are now going to have to go through all over again. And they werent even allowed to face her in the dock cause she refused to attend that. So the families will be feeling very, aggrieved by this, very, very aggrieved by this, this development. Id imagine. Right. The next words im going say will have you going to say will have you interested stockholm. Interested to bibby stockholm. Yes. That that ship, the only boat that they managed to stop because pro and anti illegal migrant groups have clashed in the dorset town of portland over that the bibby stockholm that barge, the bibby stockholm with protest due to take with more protest due to take place later on today. Yeah, well, so reporter yeah, well, so our reporter jeff moody is on the scene. And jeff, what can you tell us is happening at the moment right. Well , ill happening at the moment right. Well, ill if you want to look at how plonking a barge down in the middle of a community and threatening to put up to 500 migrants on it, if you want to look at what that does to a community, you only have to look at portland. The people of portland are divine guided. Theyre angry and theyre depressed. And there have been depressed. And there have been two main opposition groups , two two main opposition groups, two main protest groups. Theres been no to the barge. Now there the main reason for opposing this is they say , well, you this is they say, well, you know, you youre putting up to 500 people that we dont know who they are and theyve not gone through any any sufficient checks and balances. And youre checks and balances. And youre plonking them down in the middle of our community and expecting us to get on with it. And the home Office Counters that by saying, look, know, saying, well, look, you know, these vetted. These people have been vetted. Theyre final stage ages theyre in the final stage ages of process to get asylum in of the process to get asylum in this country. And the last thing theyre going to do is want to fall out of line. The other argument , of course, fall out of line. The other argument, of course, is about services. People saying, look, services. People saying, look, we cant see a gp, we cant see a dentist. How can you then suddenly put 500 more people here . Well, the home office says, well , theyre going to says, well, theyre going to have their own people on board. Theyre not going to be relying on local services. And then, of course, of feeds into course, that sort of feeds into the cost of living crisis the whole cost of living crisis and well, thats and people saying, well, thats not fair. Why should they have private services on board when we cant anyone . Dodi so we cant find anyone . Dodi so theres that side. Theres also theres that side. Theres also the stand up to racism side. Now its a little bit difficult for me to explain their point of view because they refuse. They view because they refuse. They refuse. Point blank to communicate with gb news they they refuse to acknowledge that we even exist. So its very hard. But their main reasoning is that , look, this the is that, look, this the government is stirring up hatred. We dont know that these people are going to cause trouble. These people come from trouble. These people come from war torn countries. We should war torn countries. We should look after them. In fact, we shouldnt be putting them in a in a in a barge. A lot of these groups have now splintered into other groups. And thats the danger and thats what were going to see today. Theres two main protests happening at around 10 00 by portland port. Theres the stand up to racism lot. And theres also another group called close our borders. Group called close our borders. Well, the title says it all. Theyre an anti immigration group. They dont want any group. They dont want any immigration at all. So that threatened to be quite a divisive of protest over recent weeks and months , these protests weeks and months, these protests have been getting more and more angry, more and more divisive. The Police Presence ramping up. The Police Presence ramping up. And then you add into that mix people that are bused in. Theres members of the far right that come down here, members of the far left that come down here andifs the far left that come down here and its almost like a proxy war happening in the middle of portland , all of that. And at portland, all of that. And at the moment , portland, all of that. And at the moment, not a single refugee Asylum Seeker on board. We still dont know when theyre going to come here. The home office is being very tight lipped about it. But what we can say is that this week weve seen big boxes of fruit and veg being transported onto the bibby , transported onto the bibby, stockholm, and theyve also improved a lot of their ramps onto the barge because as you know , there was a lot of concern know, there was a lot of concern from the fire union about how they would be able to cope if they would be able to cope if they were a fire on board. And of course, theres the issue of legionella, and we dont know how far weve got in making sure that the barge is safe. But we have had rumours that people will start to come on board again on monday. Okay, jeff moody down in portland there. Its going to be an interesting day ahead with the clashes expected once. Keep an eye on. Well be covering that story right through the morning here on gb news. Lets a look now some lets take a look now at some other stories into the other stories coming into the newsroom. Well, donald trump has attacked fellow republican attacked his fellow republican president ial candidate, ron desantis. It happened desantis overnight. It happened at an event organised by the group called concerned women for america. America. But on desanctimonious , as but on desanctimonious, as you know, i got him elected. But now hes a failed candidate. He failed. He failed before. You know, he came in. I gave him an endorsement and we lifted him into victory. He was way, way behind. It was over. The behind. It was he was over. The race over. I endorsed him race was over. I endorsed him and like a rocket ship. And he went like a rocket ship. And he won very shortly thereafter, our and then i got him the election. So i got him past the election. So i got him past the election. So i got him the nomination. Then i got him the nomination. Then i got him the nomination. Then i got him the election. He ran against the at the time who was the guy at the time who was turned out to be a crackhead, but nobody knew that at the time. Well the former president currently holds a 35 lead over the Florida Governor with christian voters and the sicilian island of lampedusa is still struggling to cope with the surge of migrants arriving from africa. More than 6700 arrive over the past week, which surpasses the past week, which surpasses the islands entire population. The islands entire population. Italys deputy Prime Minister, Matteo Salvini, has blamed europe for the emergency lampedusa de la morte de la europa. I said it at the beginning. I said it at the beginning. Whats happening in lampedusa is the death of europe multiple cultural and social. The baby who died represents the death of europe. Its political, cultural , social and value death because italy is alone. Italy is alone. Well, youre watching breakfast here on gb news. And if youre in the car or maybe going somewhere, youre probably listening as well. So well catch up with the weather now that warm feeling inside from boxt boilers. Proud sponsors of weather on. Gb news. Hi there. Very good morning to you. Its Aidan Mcgivern here from the met office with the gb news forecast warm in the south once again today. Cooler further north, but it does turn drier for time following the damp for a time following the damp weather we saw across weather that we saw across Northern England, southern and central well as Central Scotland as well as parts Northern Ireland parts of Northern Ireland yesterday. The rain continues yesterday. The rain continues for a time in this part of the world in the morning, but it does tend to peter out into the afternoon a legacy of cloudy conditions here. Brightest skies further south, but always the threat of some thundery showers through the day because its relatively humid air and temperatures peaking at 26 or 27 celsius, much cooler for northern scotland, although a bright day here, plenty of crisp september sunshine and we keep the clear skies in northern scotland overnight. Great conditions for viewing the aurora, which is expected to be aurora, which is expected to be a good show tonight. But northern scotland, a widespread frost as we start off sunday. So this marked temperature contrast continues. However the humid air in the south is travelling north. That means cloudier skies for many, but also an increase increasingly warm feel basically for much of scotland compared with the last few days. But associated with that higher humidity. Weve got these heavy humidity. Weve got these heavy outbreaks of rain and thunderstorms moving north at the same time, highs of 20 to celsius. Celsius. That warm feeling inside from boxt boilers proud sponsors of weather on. Gb news glorious weather on. Gb news glorious feels like the final days of summer. Coming up next, well have aidan magee in the studio and hell be talking about the restraining order. Given to the former spanish fa president Luis Rubiales hi there. Welcome back. It is hi there. Welcome back. It is 827 827. Thank you very much. My big clocks gone again. Youre big clocks gone again. Youre watching and listening to breakfast with anne and martin. Yes. Time to go through all the latest sports news now with aidan magee. Focus on the aidan magee. Lets focus on the big quite an eye opening big story. Quite an eye opening sort of this. Luis rubiales , of sort of this. Luis rubiales, of course, the spanish fa president who kissed the player after the world cup final, which spain won , of course. Now a month later, theres been a significant development. Development. Exactly. I mean, it yeah, exactly. I mean, it happened yesterday. A Spanish Court imposed a restraining order on Luis Rubiales , which order on Luis Rubiales, which means that he cant go within 200m of jenny hermoso, the woman who is at the centre of this. This incident scored the winning goal for spain in the world cup, what, weeks ago . Now there what, four weeks ago . Now there was an application made that he wouldnt go within the wouldnt go within 500m. The judge at the court in spain decided it would only be 200. It was also application made was also an application made that would have that rubiales would have to report court every days to report to court every 15 days to prevent him from fleeing the country. But that was rejected. But has come about as a but this has come about as a result hermoso and her legal result of hermoso and her legal team believing that team clearly not believing that the spanish fa have proved competent in dealing with this. This matter. And i think that this matter. And i think that thats theres probably some validity should say validity in that. We should say at stage as well. Rubiales at this stage as well. Rubiales denies all everything. There havent charges issued denies all everything. There haas|t charges issued denies all everything. There haas of charges issued denies all everything. There haas of now. Charges issued as as of now. Normally aiden are restraining order would be granted if a person was stalking somebody or was going near them. Is that the case here or is this more like a kind of legal shot to be fired to make the significance of this seem more important . Well, i think theres an element of that. I mean, theres always a show trial element to stories that go global arent they . We they . How having said that, we dont whos going be dont know whos going to be ianed dont know whos going to be invited the charges are are invited if the charges are are brought. Dont know whos brought. We dont know whos going be brought to the going to be brought to the courtroom evidence. Courtroom to give evidence. We know witnesses going know who the witnesses are going to know what on to be. We dont know what on earth going to come out. Earth is going to come out. Weve seen some famous court cases down the years which reveal more than ever reveal far more than we ever expected. And jenny hermosos expected. And so jenny hermosos situation that, she situation is that, yes, she feels feels that case feels she feels that the case wasnt with. But we have wasnt dealt with. But we have to the context here. To consider the context here. This going on and this stuff has been going on and this why i think more might this is why i think more might come come out in court, come out come out in court, because among the because the angst among the spanish lets face spanish players and lets face it, are they are world it, they are they are world champions now. They were quarterfinalists euros quarterfinalists in the euros last having to last year, having lost to england. Theyve been very angry at the spanish fa have at the way the spanish fa have treated a long period treated them over a long period of time. And not all about of time. And its not all about misogyny. Its not all about sexual its also sexual harassment. Its also about of about just the treatment of players, standing players, just their standing within i mean, within within the game. I mean, they were transported around the country. Were transported country. They were transported around on around to other countries and on inferior planes. Were given inferior planes. They were given substandard accommodation and mini coach. Mini bus rolled on a coach. Yeah, exactly. And this isnt a small i mean, this is small nation. I mean, this is a nafion small nation. I mean, this is a nation thats this is this nation thats been this is this is federation thats is a federation thats been beset problems the beset with problems down the years. There have been accusations of racism from supporters within the accusations of racism from su|forrters within the accusations of racism from su|for many within the accusations of racism from su|for many years within the accusations of racism from su|for many years now within the accusations of racism from su|for many years now going the accusations of racism from su|for many years now going back fa for many years now going back probably years. I would probably 20, 20 years. I would suggest. Theyve suggest. So theyve had a problem with dealing the problem with dealing with the womens section womens with the womens section of their organisation, of the of their organisation, i. E. Womens team. As he the womens team. And as i say, this is a top side, this isnt, arent minnows who isnt, these arent minnows who dont tournaments. Dont qualify for tournaments. These is a, this is the these are this is a, this is the well, best team in the world well, the best team in the world right now. Yeah. Okay. Aidan magee will have to there. It just to leave it there. But it just seems sad. Doesnt it, that seems so sad. Doesnt it, that this has overshadowed this incident has overshadowed the champions . Yes. The world champions . Yes. But clearly been a but clearly theres been a problem long time and problem for a long time and the women seized women have seized the opportunity nine and opportunity to nine players and have said they havent confirmed whether going whether theyre going to come back the International Back to the international fold. Them didnt go to seven of them didnt go to the world cup. The last world cup. If cant, youve got if you cant, if youve got a point to make and a case to make, winning the world cup gives incredible platform gives you an incredible platform and good point. And theyve used it. Good point. Cant them. All right. Cant blame them. All right. Were going to move to on stephanie the other end were going to move to on st storm is definitely the storm is definitely brewing the comedy industry brewing in the comedy industry and russell jumping and Russell Brand is jumping ahead any allegations ahead to deny any allegations that have been put to him from an unnamed newspaper and an unknown tv station. Tonight as its been said on social media. And a lot of people know theres going to be a channel 4 program, which is going to be an expose, which is going to be an expose, which is going to be looking at high comedians whove high profile comedians whove had allegations put to had serious allegations put to them, been upheld. Them, which have been upheld. The which is going to the program, which is going to be minute special, is also be a 90 minute special, is also going include video footage. Going to include video footage. Russell hasnt said Russell Brand hasnt said whether two are linked, Russell Brand hasnt said whehes two are linked, Russell Brand hasnt said whehes denying 0 are linked, Russell Brand hasnt said whehes denying any; linked, Russell Brand hasnt said whehes denying any allegations but hes denying any allegations. As we know, Russell Brand is a very colourful but controversial character. Hes done a lot of work on himself over the past few years, given up a lot of his addictions. As he says, these allegations time in allegations come from a time in his career where he quite his career where he was quite promiscuous. He in promiscuous. He was in the height addictions, but as height of his addictions, but as as it stands right now, we do not know what the full story is. Also, i have to say, there is a big metoo expose which is set to come out this weekend in a newspaper. So from what ive gathered from sources , this gathered from sources, this newspaper expose and this tv expose are going to go hand in hand and Russell Brand has suddenly released a video in which he hes putting his case, i suppose, saying that anything he ever did is already admitted to. Yeah. And was always yeah. And was always consensual. But he feels so strongly about it. Hes released this video. Weve got a clip we can play. Yeah. Now this isnt the usual type of video we make on this channel where we critique, attack and undermine on the news in all its corruption. Because in all its corruption. Because in this story, i am the news. Ive received two extremely disturbing letters or a letter and an email, one from a Mainstream Media tv company, one from a newspaper listing a utany from a newspaper listing a litany of extremely egregious and aggressive attacks, as well as some pretty stupid stuff like my Community Festival should be stopped that i shouldnt be able to attack Mainstream Media narratives on this channel. But amidst this litany of astonishing , rather baroque astonishing, rather baroque attacks are some very serious allegations as well. There you are. Thats all we know at the moment. Thats all we know. And were just going to have to wait to see whether this tv program and this newspaper report are going to be linked to what Russell Brand saying. Brand is saying. Obviously feels incredibly he obviously feels incredibly strongly about it, doesnt he . These he is usually in these situations, anna martin, situations, as anna martin, usually in question situations, as anna martin, uscaught in question situations, as anna martin, uscaught off in question situations, as anna martin, uscaught off guard in question situations, as anna martin, uscaught off guard in qlitsion is caught off guard and its sent straight the newspapers sent straight to the newspapers. Newspapers and with. But with newspapers and with tv shows, they have to give people a right of reply. So whatevers going on already having it. Yeah, yeah, yeah, its going get on the front its going to get on the front foot another here. Foot and another scandal here. Kutcher time. Ashton kutcher this time. Stephanie, whats going on . On . Last week we whats going on . Last week we were on the show, were talking about on the show, martin, kutcher, martin, that Ashton Kutcher, mila they defended mila kunis, they had defended their who their friend danny marsden, who they with in that 70 they starred with in that 70 show. Said he had been show. They said he had been sentenced to rape for two women for 30 years as they had written a in his defence asking a letter in his defence asking the judge for leniency and supporting his character, Ashton Kutcher has now been forced to step down as chairman of this anti child sex abuse charity that he found called thorne. He says over the past few days hes had some time to reflect, and he says it doesnt feel right for him to remain on being chairman because whats happened now is that hes hes taken a voice away from people whove gone through similar situations. The whole point of people whove been abused is that they should find their voice to be able to speak about crimes. Speak about these crimes. And i think with backlash that think with the backlash that hes received from the public, its almost at odds with the work that he does do. And do you think that this will go further than just his his organisation and his his role that . It be very role in that . Would it be very damaging on his career . Broader i think it will broader sense. I they do regret sense. I think they do regret now sending that letter, both of them, received such them, because they received such a the public. A backlash from the public. I dont think they were expecting Danny Masterson to be found guilty rapes. And guilty of the rapes. And so i dont think were thinking dont think they were thinking that ahead this when that far ahead about this when it happened. Fact if youve known the fact that if youve known somebody been somebody and theyve been a very, good friend of yours very, very good friend of yours for a long time and then they are accused of something terrible and you probably yourself believe that, i dont see how that person could have done it. I dont believe theyve done it. I dont believe theyve done it. I dont believe theyve done it. He was then found guilty. Yeah. So they have to accept that he did those things. But hes still, you know, they still have that legacy of a friendship. They do. But i think as well, Ashton Kutcher didnt realise youve is youve got a charity which is about child sex abuse, people whove sexual assaulted and whove been sexual assaulted and youve now defended a man whos done the same thing. So i think he he would have had he should have had better caution when it comes to that. Go on. Not at all. Theyve no go on. Not at all. Theyve lost that. And as lost theyve lost that. And as you , its going make him you said, its going to make him quite for hollywood to employ. Now, it because its such now, it is because its such when were talking about these metoo its something metoo cases, its not something thats to go away. Now thats going to go away. Now were of historic were finding a lot of historic cases which just coming up cases which are just coming up to bite people the back now. To bite people in the back now. And like by. And its almost like guilty by. Association and maybe were very much in that culture now. Yeah, absolutely. Well, stephanie, thanks very much indeed to indeed for bringing us up to date that. Do stick with us. Date on that. Do stick with us. This is news on your tv online and on your radio headline makers next yeah, welcome back. Youre watching and listening to breakfast with anne and martin, now a peckham shopkeeper , was now a peckham shopkeeper, was filmed apparently strangled ing a woman who tried to walk out with some some products. This has viral this week. Has gone viral this week. Yes. Even ive seen this. Yeah but i think weve only seen a selected bit, havent we . Yeah. She had tried to get a refund on some Hair Products. Its peckham and cosmetics its peckham hair and cosmetics on just down the on rye lane. Its just down the road where live. In fact, road from where i live. In fact, i there yesterday and the i went there yesterday and the day before. Before an day before. This was before an argument out. And she then argument broke out. And she then tried leave some items. Tried to leave with some items. Yes, well be discussing that a think, in a moment a bit more, i think, in a moment. But right now weve got kevin and susan back with to us be our headune and susan back with to us be our headline makers. And susan back with to us be our headline makers. And kevin, headline makers. And kevin, youve got youve found a story in the i, which im not sure i believe. Yeah, i dont. Its about students and their drinking habits. Yeah, well thats actually is a trend i think thats been happening for quite some time. But more and more students are turning their backs on alcohol , so much so that alcohol, so much so that universities are now basically having to scale back freshers weeks. And if you remember , a weeks. And if you remember, a few of our student freshers week was a huge thing. You know, when you first turned up at University Alcohol fuelled, you went out every night for week University Alcohol fuelled, you wetwo. It every night for week or two. But i remember freshers week. Thats the point. Yeah, thats right. So if youre alcohol, youre not drinking alcohol, what doing. What are they doing. Well theyre drinking non alcohol. Im not sure we can discuss that this time of a morning. Pluck up the courage to speak that this time of a morning. Pluanothere courage to speak that this time of a morning. Plu another ifcourage to speak that this time of a morning. Plu another if theyre to speak that this time of a morning. Plu another if theyre notspeak to one another if theyre not drunk. Thats what i want to know. Um, but yeah, apparently its and to according the its 37. And to according the national students, National Union of students, ive done students done a survey, 37 of students going university. Dont going to university. Now dont drink, up from 21. Drink, and thats up from 21. Just five years ago. And the i have worked out that that basically equates to 500,000 students are now and more students are now and more students are now non drinkers. Students are now non drinkers. So, for instance so they used to have things like called punch parties in student halls , which parties in student halls, which basically a big bottle of booze and everyone drunk it and had a good time. Well, theyre now having to have non alcoholic punch because the kids dont want alcohol anymore. Um, but yeah its as you say though alcohol is it loosens you up obviously. And then thats when you make friends. Yeah and you have got the courage and if you dont learn how to drink at university , why have you gone that is quite a thing. Having said that, they have got other kind activities. Got other kind of activities. And i mean, as somebody im not a big drinker, so i never i dont actually believe you need alcohol good time. Alcohol to have a good time. That i believe. But that isnt what i believe. But i think it is kind of quite hard when youre meeting new people like you say, they are like you say, but they are saying things have saying things like they have bingo disco, bingo nights, roller disco, late night all night museum visits, which all sounds lovely, but all of sounds very lovely, but all of those would be improved you those would be improved if you had drink. Itell those would be improved if you had drink. I tell what, had a drink. I tell you what, though, not full story, though, its not the full story, though, its not the full story, though, it . Because they though, is it . Because they might not be drinking alcohol, but are things going but there are other things going on our university thats what on in our university thats what i wonder. Remember i wonder. And i remember visiting when he was at visiting my son when he was at University Ice Cream Van University and an Ice Cream Van came well after midnight, came round. Well after midnight, digging little bell. Digging its little bell. And i thought, late for ice thought, its very late for ice cream. A minute. Not cream. Wait a minute. Its not selling cream. Selling ice selling ice cream. Selling ice cream is it . Little thing to watch there . Watch out for there . How much of yeah. I wonder how much of this is about body image because particularly amongst young men now, its really, now, young men, its really, really i was lad, really like when i was a lad, laddism was out laddism loaded magazine was out and are beer and people people are beer bellies. It like was bellies. It was like it was different all time. And now different all the time. And now its so instagram driven. Its like so instagram driven. Its that that its all about being that that kind beach body ready thing. Kind of beach body ready thing. I if a factor. I wonder if thats a factor. Definitely. Yeah. I mean, its a long time since i was a young man, but you notice it now that these young guys are theyre ripped, pretty theyre ripped, theyre pretty buff tight. Buff and they wear tight. T shirts to off their biceps. Shirts to show off their biceps. Well, you say, the well, as you say, its the instagram thing. Thats the generation yeah, thats the generation they are. Youre taking they are. And if youre taking selfies them your selfies and posting them on your instagram youve instagram or whatever, youve got to good. Got to look good. Is also part of the and it is also part of the fact a lot of them are a lot of students, obviously, and young people, vegan is people, vegetarian and vegan is a big thing as well. Lot of a big thing as well. A lot of them dont eat meat and so it is like a different kind of thing. Absolutely. Drink doesnt, and they drink doesnt, i guess, along with building guess, go along with no building yourself having no sculpted yourself up, having no sculpted body. Probably harder. Body. Its probably harder. So i guess it makes sense. They have a very long and dull lives, i guess, but but theyll actually to lectures theyll actually go to lectures and no excuse they and stuff, so no excuse if they have degree. Have a degree. Sure should. They im sure they should. They should they should not be sitting taking other sitting there taking other substances sitting there taking other subwell,es sitting there taking other subwell, i. Sitting there taking other subwell, i think they are. Well, i think they are. Well, i think they are. Well, i think they are. Well, i think thats a good point. They argue i mean, that generation argues quite forcibly that a poison that alcohol we know is a poison and is very, very bad for you, whereas drugs they whereas certain drugs that they like near as bad. Theres an argument for that. It depends on the day. They will argue it. Yeah. They will argue it. Yeah. It means, you i wonder what it means, you know, for the hospitality trade. Pub yeah. Youre not pub trade. Yeah. If youre not getting loads of getting loads and loads of students coming in every night or young general or young people in general drinking, vaping as drinking, theyre all vaping as well, you. Well, arent you. I dont much this is i dont know how much this is dnven i dont know how much this is driven the cost as well. Driven by the cost as well. I mean its blooming expensive now to for go, go for to go for a nice go, go for a day or a night out in a pub. Now is a bit like it used to be going out for an expensive meal. You could spend a packet and if youre on a on a on a grand. Yeah. Then of course you know, its huge expenses. Its going to be huge expenses. What you do let us know what you think. We being silly old think. Are we being silly old fogeys from a generation so fogeys from a generation or so where was all an and do where drink was all an and or do you do believe this . You believe do you believe this . And what do you think the youngsters doing . I dont youngsters are doing . I dont know. Talking know. I think were talking rubbish as they are rubbish because as they are doing else. Now rubbish because as they are doinggo else. Now rubbish because as they are doinggo the else. Now rubbish because as they are doinggo the guardian. Now rubbish because as they are doinggo the guardian. Susan lets go to the guardian. Susan and Childline Charity and and the Childline Charity and what its saying at the moment. Yes. So it actually follows on from what what you were just saying about how the instagram generation and people taking pictures and pictures of themselves and posting media, posting on social media, obviously. But has actually posting on social media, obviorabout ut has actually posting on social media, obviorabout ut report as actually posting on social media, obviorabout ut report that tually posting on social media, obviorabout ut report that hasly come about a report that has been done by the Girlguiding Organisation , which actually organisation, which actually i was surprised actually still exists, but it does and its saying that how many girls suffer some sort of online abuse. So 37 of young girls and women aged between 11 and 21 have been sent upsetting photos or content by people they know. And this is obviously because theyre in that. And you cant tell young people now not to be on social media. It is a thing that are doing. And that they are doing. And actually, i have to say i will defend their right to do that because i dont why girls because i dont see why girls need be told to shush or to need to be told to shush or to look different or wear Something Different or not have an opinion. But that is and i think it is women. I mean, you and i it is women. I mean, you and i have spoken about this before. I think that when youre when youre a woman in the media, you do get far more of a personal attack than i think men do. Well, i dont know about that. Ive bit of a week. Ive had a bit of a week. Ive certainly been getting more than my fair share of truman style aggro. And i think boys do get a lot of stick as well. But do they go on about your hair . I dont know. Yes, but its because youre on social media. Yes, of course. Yeah and so if a gateway , girls, if youre its a gateway, girls, you getting this you know, theyre getting this sort of horrible abuse , but its sort of horrible abuse, but its because they have social media presence. And thats the thats the problem, isnt it . And im not saying they shouldnt be on social media. Absolutely every right to do that. Right to be to do that. Worked childline, who i worked for childline, who are involved in this piece are also involved in this piece in the guardian, and i work for childline five years. Childline for five years. And i worked for the schools service, which is where you go in and talk to children about all forms of abuse, just theyre aware, of abuse, just so theyre aware, because you dont know if no one explains neglect explains to you what neglect looks might know looks like. You might not know youre neglected, need youre neglected, so you need to talk and emotional talk to somebody. And Emotional Abuse one the five areas abuse was one of the five areas of you talk about. And a of abuse. You talk about. And a lot of that about from lot of that comes about from emotional what it is. Emotional abuse is what it is. And realise it used and people dont realise it used to be sticks and stones break my bones. Words dont hurt me, but they. They do. Yeah, i do. Ive been to schools. I spoke to about 45,000 british teenagers, addiction and teenagers, about addiction and the stuff young the sort of stuff that young lads around, not lads are sending around, not just girls , by way, just to girls, by the way, but to their mates, to try to their to their mates, to try and out. Theyre just and freak them out. Theyre just not that. Its not aware to that. Its unacceptable. Youd think they would become would be. But its become so normalised used to ping this stuff across to try and freak out their friends or to freak out their friends or to freak out their friends or to freak out the girls. Your whole teenage being inundated by that. Could inundated by that. You could spend of yes. Spend years of it. Yes. It becomes normal to you. And yet its horrible , horrible content. Its horrible, horrible content. And i saw a really interesting piece in the week about the demographic. Now, the least confident of their bodies and showing them in public are young men. And its back to that thing. Well talk about a minute ago about they feel they ago about they feel like they need like, know, need to look like, you know, somebody off the only way is essex in the they watch essex or even in the they watch and of feeds and so all this kind of feeds in. Katharine birbalsingh, in. And katharine birbalsingh, whos super head she says whos the super head she says 99 problems always 99 of problems are always caused by social media in schools. Its just its just schools. Its just its just really its one of those things. And you cant i mean, ive got a 13 year old daughter and you cant right, youre not you cant say, right, youre not going youre not going on snapchat, youre not going on tiktok. You monitor . How do you monitor . How do you monitor . Just have to try. Well, you just have to try. Well, weve is we well, one thing weve done is we take off all the time take tiktok off all the time because its like the biggest punishment is if you punishment we can give is if you must tick, off must be tick, tick, tick off your ive it 3 or 4 your phone. Ive done it 3 or 4 times already. Shes had it times already. Shes not had it very so her friends very long, so all her friends are on it. And you just have to constantly be aware constantly remind her, be aware of it. Be careful of whos reading it. Be careful about details you about what you put details you give out. Dont up give out. Dont put up any pictures yourself. That pictures of yourself. All that type of stuff. Also positive and also positive reinforcement away from that as well. I think saying, you reinforcement away from that as well. What|k saying, you reinforcement away from that as well. What you iying, you reinforcement away from that as well. What you want you reinforcement away from that as well. What you want and you reinforcement away from that as well. What you want and dont wear what you want and dont listen to anybody else or you look great that actually, look great or that actually, i mean, people dont do that enough, think. And yeah, i was enough, i think. And yeah, i was in america recently and people would just come up to you and go, like, i like your go, hey, i like, i like your top. We dont do that here and we should we should say, you look and look great, or i love. And actually that positive actually all that positive reinforcement helpful, reinforcement is really helpful, i people. I think, for young people. Whats i had so many whats vital is i had so many parents coming up to me and said, how can i stop my son looking at this stuff . And i said, cant, but you said, you cant, but what you should them, you can should say to them, what you can say them, is if you ever see say to them, is if you ever see anything worries you or anything that worries you or freaks you talk freaks you out, you can talk to me about the same with me about it. Its the same with all abuse they get on whatsapp. They do that. They do that. But at least they know theyre pushing at an door theyre pushing at an open door that do with that is that is what you do with that is the childline we go the childline line that we go into always somebody into and theres always somebody into and theres always somebody in be, you know, it it might not be, you know, it could your teacher, but it could be your teacher, but it could be your teacher, but it could be your swimming or could be your Swimming Coach or it your best it could be your your best friends or it could friends mum. Or it could theres always somebody in your life people in life think about the people in your you could talk to your life that you could talk to about someone about it. Theres always someone who to you and you who will relate to you and you can relate to, but theres nothing a child nothing worse than a child suffering silence. Nothing worse than a child suf if ing silence. Nothing worse than a child suf if they silence. Nothing worse than a child suf if they feelence. Nothing worse than a child suf if they feel the. Nothing worse than a child suf if they feel the shame and if they feel the shame and theyre to talk to theyre too scared to talk to their to know their parents, they need to know that it well, you that they can push it well, you have have those conversations have to have those conversations because cant just say because you cant just say youre on social youre not going on social media. Youre not going on social me thats not an option. Thats just not an option. You accept that you have to accept that they will their friends will go on it. All their friends are it. Theyll probably get are on it. Theyll probably get bullied on it, bullied if they dont go on it, but they have to be able to use it. And when theyre too big for the naughty though, it is the naughty step, though, it is quite device to use. Quite a good device to use. Well, coming off. Yeah well, thats coming off. Yeah a good point. Then wouldnt a now then kath wouldnt be a newspaper a pop newspaper review without a pop at european and at the european union. And here we well, they commission we go. Well, they commission plans to rename jam as marmalade. Do understand this. No, they do understand this. No, they do understand this. Rather themselves they do rather set themselves up over stuff up for more ridicule over stuff like apparently its like this. Now, apparently its the European Commission is revising its breakfast directives. Who knew the breakfast directory is a breakfast directive. Been doing it wrong breakfast directive. Theyre been doing it wrong breakfast directive. Theyre saying doing it wrong breakfast directive. Theyre saying doinjamwrong breakfast directive. Thebea saying doinjamwrong breakfast directive. Thebe labelled doinjam wrong breakfast directive. Thebe labelled as njam wrong should be labelled as marmalade. No. And marmalade. No. And marmalade. Traditional orange marmalade should become citrus marmalade. Im. No, its not all im outraged. No, its not all bad. They just say, well, its bad. They just say, well, its to try and make it uniform across the whole of the european union. But its not all bad union. But its not all bad because theyre saying that the minimum content jams on minimum fruit content of jams on marmalade should be increased from 35 to 45. So thats not a bad thing. Now, you might ask, whats this got to do with the uk . In the eu anymore. Uk . Because in the eu anymore. However because of the Windsor Framework rishi framework that rishi sunak negotiated to try and sort out the problems in Northern Ireland, Northern Ireland has to abide by. Well, its up to the government really. They will. Government really. They will. They may have to abide by this. And i was i was checking out that there are producers in Northern Ireland, you might Northern Ireland, as you might expect, marmalade jams and expect, of marmalade jams and conserves. So um, so yeah, so it could actually be more outraged about this than i have been about this than i have been about anything else all morning. I am a huge marmalade fan. Me too. I i am a huge marmalade fan. Me too i use i am a huge marmalade fan. Me too. I use marmalade on lots of different my bacon different things. My bacon sandwich is not complete without marmalade. Told marmalade. I have. Ive told you about marmalade. Ive got bacon. About marmalade. Baconyt bacon. About marmalade. Bacon sandwich with brown sauce marmalade. Trust me, sauce and marmalade. Trust me, its. Its absolutely. I know that sounds great. It does sound great. I put this on. I put a picture of it on social media loads of people tried. Went, loads of people tried. It went, you are right. I know im right. Sweet and savoury savoury, sweet and savoury thing. But i just. No, absolutely. But i just. No, absolutely. But i just. Is oranges and jam marmalade is oranges and jam is Everything Else. Why medal . Why medal . Just confuse the although just to confuse the issue more. Not that im a issue even more. Not that im a marmalade or anything, marmalade expert or anything, but. Is derived but. But marmalade is derived from a portuguese word marmalade , which is from marmalade and the portuguese word for quince is marmelo. So it all gets a bit confused where marmite. So we call marmalade we think is oranges and actually its based on something based on quince. Anyway so maybe the eu kind of are. But if you go to america and ask for marmalade, they just but if you go to america and ask fcknow malade, they just but if you go to america and ask fcknow whatie, they just but if you go to america and ask fcknow what yourey just but if you go to america and ask fcknow what youre talking about. No, they dont. But theyll give you some which fine. E e e the same, but yeah, its not the same, but you can pour over your bacon. Whod thought the whod have thought the paddington will be Paddington Bear will be will be in of guy verhofstadt. Theres nothing sacred. Theres nothing sacred. Theres nothing sacred. What about susan . The what about susan . The etiquette . When you go to a concert . Yes. Concert . Yes. Well, yeah, this is one of bugbear with me that people not knowing how to behave either in a or at a gig and over x a theatre or at a gig and over x as were now meant to call twitter, theres been quite the kind of furore the last few days. So eh, is it all People Holding their phones up and getting in their phones up and getting in the way . Its that, but its kind of more than that as well. There was an opinion piece the was an opinion piece in the guardian called guardian by a writer called simon price and he was saying actually up on some actually picking up on some things that id kind of forgotten good forgotten were good gig etiquette. Just forgotten were good gig etiqlof e. Just forgotten were good gig etiqlof hammering just forgotten were good gig etiqlof hammering peopleist forgotten were good gig etiqlof hammering people for all kind of hammering people for all the should know the things we should now know are what he calls the are bad, so what he calls the gig idiot. So a good gig. Etiquette used to be that when youre at a gig, when youre standing in particular, if you know youre you are blocking somebody, youd move to the side. You wouldnt push your way through. Heres aiden with the temperatures rising, boxt solar proud sponsors of weather on. Gb news. Hi there. Very good morning to you. Its Aidan Mcgivern here from the met office with the gb news forecast warm in the south once again today. Cooler further north, but it does turn drier for time following the damp for a time following the damp weather across weather that we saw across Northern England, southern and Central Scotland , as well as Central Scotland, as well as parts of Northern Ireland yesterday rain yesterday day. The rain continues time in this continues for a time in this part of the world in the morning, but it does tend to peter out into the afternoon a legacy of cloudy conditions here, brighter skies further south, but always the threat of some thundery showers through the day because its relatively humid air and temperatures peaking at 26 or 27 celsius, much cooler for northern scotland, although a bright day here, plenty of crisp september sunshine and we keep the clear skies in northern scotland overnight. Great conditions for viewing the aurora, which is expected to be a good show tonight. Weve got these heavy outbreaks of rain and thunderstorms moving north at the same time, highs of 22 celsius. The temperatures rising, boxt solar proud sponsors of weather on. Gb news. On. Gb news. Well, this is gb news on your tv online and on your radio. Stay with us good morning. Its 9 00 on saturday. The 16th of september. Today the american xl bully dogs are being banned. Rishi sunak says the government will ban those dogs by the end of the year after several people have died from attacks and sir keir starmer says he believes terrorism, Climate Change, criminal people smuggling gangs and threats to democracy are the major challenges for the western world. Labour also says it will solve the channel migrants crisis. While the government has failed the government. Of course, when they see someone else coming up with solutions, realise that its identified a huge failure of their leadership. So theyre starting to throw around numbers. Theyve got no bearing on reality at all. Try and cover the fact that theyve completely failed to deliver. Theyre going to going to keep doing that. Were going to keep doing that. Were going to the problem. To try and solve the problem. The baby killer , lucy letby, the baby killer, lucy letby, has an application to has filed an application to appeal against her convictions. She was, of course , handed 14 she was, of course, handed 14 whole life sentences last month. Its often a lengthy and complex process, so it could be quite a while before we know, eh if the application to appeal is successful and b if it is successful, what that then means for lucy letby Going Forward and aiden from the met office has your all important weather and still some warm , sunny spells still some warm, sunny spells around today. But through the weekend, humidity is climbing, pressure is lowering and theres an increased risk of thundery showers developing, especially tonight and tomorrow. Find out more in the Weather Forecast. More in the Weather Forecast. Well, its great to be with you. Im anne diamond. And im Martin Daubney and this is breakfast on gb news. Gardening should be taught in school. School. Thats what jim carter he plays the butler. Does he . In plays the butler. Does he . In Downton Abbey . Thats right. Yeah. And his wife, Imelda Staunton , are launching a bit of staunton, are launching a bit of a campaign because they think gardening should be taught in schools because its uplifting. Gets you out. It gets you gets you out. It gets you putting your mobile device down. It gets you getting your hands dirty. And everybody watching at dirty. And everybody watching at the moment seems to absolutely agree. Agree. Absolutely. Absolutely. This is this fantastic and this is this is fantastic. From phil, when i was a lad, we a rural science lesson in we had a rural science lesson in the the school. We had the bowels of the school. We had two cows. Molly and nelly chickens and rabbits. The chickens and rabbits. The rabbits soon lost favour and all the girls were frightened of the chickens. Another cow arrived as i left. We also learned about plants and things like that. Plants and things like that. Yeah. Yeah. Sounds fancy having cows. Yeah, thats great, isnt it . Well, somebody else said early on that they learned to milk a cow at school, which is brilliant. Brilliant. It is. And clearly it works as well. Sheila in taunton we were taught gardening at my school when i was 11. We were told it was introduction to told it was an introduction to science , guess is. And science, and i guess it is. And michael , who science, and i guess it is. And michael, who is a very proud dad, says my daughter, carla scammell, runs a project that teaches gardening to church groups, children vulnerable , ill groups, children vulnerable, ill and disabled groups. And they do it all with volunteers. In basingstoke. And its called basingstoke. And its called from the ground up. Fantastic. And the project is run to enable children everybody to get children and everybody to get their hands dirty and see how food is grown. She runs workshops open to let workshops and open days to let people the area see what she people in the area see what she does excess food goes to does and all excess food goes to the food bank. The local food bank. Does it sound doesnt that sound magnifique sound absolutely magnifique decent . Great idea. So decent . What a great idea. So they at my they put a new planters in at my daughters this week. Daughters school. This week. All mucking in, all the kids were mucking in, literally. Carrying all the kids were mucking in, literacross carrying all the kids were mucking in, literacross the carrying all the kids were mucking in, literacross the playgroundg all the kids were mucking in, literacross the playground on soil across the playground on their hands. The kids with special needs really into special needs are really into it. Very sensory , tactile it. Its a very sensory, tactile thing do. And the kids just thing to do. And the kids just love think we should bring love it. I think we should bring it back. I think you hit on a great idea. Yeah we were talking about and we were talking about whether children then would. Well all, started well first of all, we started talking the naughty step, talking about the naughty step, didnt whether didnt we . Yes. Whether thats a way or way to discipline children or whether it is not done anymore. Whether it is not done anymore. Well, and about the way children behave is that bad parenting even whether whether they could vote at 16. But richard says im a lollipop man and i can tell you through my own experiences, its purely down to how todays youngsters dont bring up their own children. Ive been bitten by a child and the parent didnt say a word to me or the child. Ive been sworn at again, nothing from the parents. Yeah, and keith says in my opinion, spare the rod, spoil the child is where we have gone wrong with parenting. A bit of a hard line take on that. Yes. They always used to say that. Yeah. And course, that. Yeah, yeah. And of course, then , of course, were to then, of course, were going to talk these american talk more about these american bully dogs because because as you probably know by now, if youve been watching for a while, the Prime Minister has vowed to ban these america an xl bully after several people bully dogs after several people have been mauled to death. One very recently in a video message, rishi sunak said that such attacks could not be allowed continue. Allowed to continue. You absolutely should. We have quick at how have a quick look then, at how we actually got to point . We actually got to this point . Out of control dog attacks have risen significantly in recent years, and this breed of the xl bully was behind six of ten fatal attacks in the last yeah ten fatal attacks in the last year. The xl bully, a variant of the american bully breed, is thought to have been brought to the uk in around 2014. Footage the uk in around 2014. Footage of an xl bully dog attacking people in the street in birmingham in including an 11 Year Old Girl, prompted demands for the dog to be banned. The 11 Year Old Girl caught up in this attack suffered shoulder and arm injuries. On friday, it was injuries. On friday, it was confirmed a man in stonnall had died after an attack by two dogs with residents suggesting they may have been xl bullies and that was swiftly followed by this announcement from the Prime Minister today , i have tasked minister today, i have tasked ministers to bring together police and experts to firstly define the breed of dog behind these attacks with a view to then outlawing it. It is not currently a breed defined in law, so this vital first step must happen fast. We will then ban the breed under the dangerous dogs act and new laws will be in place by the end of the year. These dogs are dangerous. I of the year. These dogs are dangerous. I want to of the year. Gb news the problem is theyre not a breed. According to dog experts. According to dog experts. Rishi sunak there said we will ban the breed. Its very difficult to be able to prove that anything is an american xl bully dog because theyre not a recognised breed with a recognised breed with a recognised dna signature. Yeah, thats right. So how will you identify the ones who are dangerous other than through their behaviour . So you have to measure them . Do you have weigh its got to have to weigh them . Its got to be technical and be incredibly technical and fraught difficulty. Fraught with difficulty. John says, morning john. I have year old black have a 13 year old black labrador. He have a 13 year old black labrador. He has never had a lead. He comes back to me with a word of command or a whistle. All these dogs that were talking about are the wrong dogs with the wrong owners. Yeah, a lot of people out there are talking about muzzles being the solution. One of them is noreen , a one and only answer is noreen, a one and only answer muzzle and leads for all dogs. Why wait until christmas . Why wait until christmas . Yeah, actually , yeah. Jessica yeah, actually, yeah. Jessica says banning those dogs is like blaming the wrong end of the lead. Yeah. Yeah. And thats it. Pam in lytham, saint annes says the following. I totally agree with the fault lies with the owners and breeders. However as a dog trainer, the a retired dog trainer, the problem is that owners, problem is that some owners, with best intentions are with the best of intentions are just capable of training just not capable of training their own dogs. Yeah, thats probably very true. Yeah. Dawn says. Im a vet and i would like to say no dog is born to kill humans. Its the idiots who own them and train them to do it. Yeah gwen in yorkshire echoes that sentiment. The government is being not being foolish for not recognising trend ban recognising the trend with ban dogs sooner. Recognising the trend with ban dogs sooner. Dogs should be treated extension of the treated as an extension of the owner. Humans need to be responsible these attacks, owner. Humans need to be resrtheible these attacks, owner. Humans need to be resrthe dogs these attacks, owner. Humans need to be resrthe dogs theyzse attacks, owner. Humans need to be resrthe dogs they are. |ttacks, not the dogs they are. Earlier in the program we spoke a dog behaviour expert spoke to a dog behaviour expert , nancy creedon, who told us that we currently dont actually have data on dangerous have enough data on dangerous breeds to make these decisions for many factors that are contributing to whats going on and an immediate blanket ban is going to be, like you said, not very feasible. Very feasible. I dont know where theyre going to put these thousands of dogs. I dont theyre dogs. I dont know how theyre expecting to get these dog cases through courts to rule through the courts to rule whether dog is an whether or not this dog is an excel bully. And the moment, excel bully. And at the moment, theres a six theres something are in a six month backlog of just getting pitbulls the court pitbulls through the court system to determine their breed. So practicalities of it is so the practicalities of it is what is immediately worrying because they going to because are they just going to blanket euthanize dogs left, right Centre Without right and Centre Without actually confirming what breed the is, where dogs are the dog is, where the dogs are going go and so the going to go and so on. So the logistics doesnt really logistics of it doesnt really make much sense. We need to make too much sense. We need to know more, but more important than that is the effect of just banning a breed to stop dog attacks is from a behaviour point of view , foolish because point of view, foolish because were going to suddenly be banning certain dogs that are very friendly social dogs and were not actually tackling the issue which is out of control dogs of any size pose a threat. Yes, the bigger that dog is, the more significant the threat is going to be and the lack of owner education and lack of pubuc owner education and lack of Public Education on what to do in these types of situations is where were falling down. I think massively. Okay, nancy, what about some other measures that people are getting in touch with us this morning gb news . Theyre morning on gb news . Theyre saying need bring back dog saying we need to bring back dog licencing. Establish licencing. We have to establish who dogs by law, who owns them dogs by law, should be on leaves on pavements and also muzzles to be mandatory. Would they be better measures than an outright ban . Mandatory. Would they be better meyou es than an outright ban . Mandatory. Would they be better meyou es tharorn outright ban . Mandatory. Would they be better meyou es tharor do utright ban . Mandatory. Would they be better meyou es tharor do we ght ban . Mandatory. Would they be better meyou es tharor do we need an . Mandatory. Would they be better meyou es tharor do we need the do you think, or do we need the ban mind six out of do you think, or do we need the ban deaths mind six out of do you think, or do we need the ban deaths are mind six out of do you think, or do we need the ban deaths are causedix out of do you think, or do we need the ban deaths are caused byyut of do you think, or do we need the ban deaths are caused by thisf ten deaths are caused by this one breed alone . Yeah i think one breed alone . Yeah i think that first and foremost, yes, licenced needs to come back along with at least a theory test so that all owners have a foundation of correct information. Far too many dog owners think they know about dogs, and its not until theyll come to a study with me that theyll realise how little they actually knew about dogs. And then, yes, something as dogs something as simple as dogs having be muzzled and having to be muzzled and on a lead if theyre over a certain weight theyre in weight when theyre out in pubucis weight when theyre out in public is the first step. And muzzles cant any muzzles dog cant do any significant damage and its fairer. Theres so many bodies out there that are happy, friendly dogs and we cant punish all the dogs because some are in responsible owners and some irresponsible breeders are creating these machines of dogs that theyre encouraging to behave aggressively. And its far more probable that theyre the dogs doing the fatalities. The dogs doing the fatalities. But we dont have the data. We do not know the background of each and every situation where these causing these dogs are causing fatalities. And without that knowledge , we cant make knowledge, we cant make educated decisions as yeah, its really getting people going and sheila says its sad that its come to a ban on these dogs, but its needed. These are massive, powerful dogs that ive seen, grown men unable to control them. And i keep mentioning the one in my local park. And when that dog goes, it pulls a grown man along like hes trying tow tractor. Unbelievable. Strong. And they bred that they are bred to be a that strong. And actually, they say strong. And actually, they say they are bred to be aggressive and certainly the sort of people who seem to really like owning them. Not everyone , i suppose, them. Not everyone, i suppose, but would like them to be aggressive. Yeah. You dont see many. How do you put it . Unsavoury types with a chihuahua, do you know . Although i mean, many people have the point that any any have made the point that any any dog, if its badly brought up, you say , yeah, any dog, even a you say, yeah, any dog, even a little one, can be nasty and aggressive. Weve all come across them as well. You know, ankle biters. Yeah, thats right. But when you think there are only 1 of the population, yet the uk dog population, yet theyre 60 theyre responsible for 60 of deaths, something has to deaths, right. Something has to be doesnt it . Be done, surely, doesnt it . And when john emailed yeah. And when john emailed in earlier and said he was the one who talked about the labrador got has never labrador hes got who has never had lead , who responds, i had a lead, who responds, i think is a wonderful thing think that is a wonderful thing to see a dog thats been so well trained. It knows how to behave. Yeah, sheepdogs , yeah, some of those sheepdogs, when i got when i got my little rescue dog, she. I mean, she was completely over the place. Completely all over the place. She did what the heck she she just did what the heck she liked. And said, no, were liked. And i said, no, were going proper training. Going to do proper training. You know, three days know, it lasted about three days because sort of. Because she was just sort of. Ha, come what does that ha, huh. Come what does that mean . Yes so she shes gone on being like that, but i dont think she would ever be aggressive, but maybe under certain situations, even little fluffy dogs could be. Yeah. Makes me glad ive got it makes me glad ive got a cat. Ive got a cat. Sometimes just harry and out just feed harry and he goes out the and thats it. The cat flap and thats it. Yeah. But they and yeah. But they go out and theyre cruel birds and. Theyre cruel to birds and. He couldnt catch yeah, well, he couldnt catch a of his life. A bird of his life. The bird is most docile, useless cat. The bird is most docile, use everyat. The bird is most docile, use every cat owner says, every cat owner i know says, you every morning its you know, every morning its absolutely the cat, absolutely horrible. The cat, you probably absolutely horrible. The cat, you a probably absolutely horrible. The cat, you a little probably absolutely horrible. The cat, you a little offering probably absolutely horrible. The cat, you a little offering by robably absolutely horrible. The cat, you a little offering by on ably absolutely horrible. The cat, you a little offering by on they left a little offering by on the Kitchen Floor or something. Yeah. Yeah. My cat cant even finish him off. Around. Its off. They they fly around. Its horrible. Or a escapes horrible. Or or a mouse escapes and you it months later and you find it months later behind when can behind the fridge when you can smell horrible. Behind the fridge when you can sm yeah. The fact is, im so yeah. And the fact is, im so many people. Yeah. Paul in many people. Yeah. Paul in bristol says, the reason we cant have these dogs licenced is because the very people who want them are not responsible enough to care about a licence. Enough to care about a licence. And that is being echoed and thats right. Brian says another reaction thats taken way too long how many other people can be killed waiting for these new laws to come in and just wonder . 7 its all 7 its all very . Its all very well for the Prime Minister to have made that announcement that they will be banned. But how were going to do it anyway, well move on to another very important story for you here on breakfast on gb news. Its about lucy letby , the news. Its about lucy letby, the baby killer. She has filed an application to appeal against her convictions. Letby was handed 14 whole life orders last month for murdering seven babies and attempting to murder six others. Well, earlier on, we spoke to our north west of england. Reporter sophie reaper, its been 29 days now since lucy letby was found guilty of seven murders and seven counts of attempted murder. And we now know that she has indeed made a formal bid to appeal against those convictions. Last month, she earned the title of the worst serial killer of children in modern british history with justice goss, the judge presiding over the case telling her, you acted in a way thatis telling her, you acted in a way that is completely contrary to the normal human instinct of nurturing and caring for babies. Now, this isnt a simple a process as just making an appeal. Instead, theyve had to make an application to do so , which will application to do so, which will now be reviewed by a judge without a formal hearing. And if without a formal hearing. And if thatis without a formal hearing. And if that is then refused used, then lucy letby is within her rights to ask for that, to then go to a formal hearing and have it reviewed by typically 2 to 3 judges. So its often a lengthy and complex process. So it could be quite a while before we know a if the application to appeal is successful , awful, and a if the application to appeal is successful, awful, and b, if it is successful , what that then it is successful, what that then means for lucy letby Going Forward. Forward. And its just a continuing ocean of the awful agony that the parents and the survivors have gone through. And, you have gone through. And, you know, its just dragging it out all over again, isnt it . Absolutely. And i think that has been at the heart of the Crown Prosecution Service of Cheshire Police, of the courts, making sure that the families feel that they are acknowledged throughout this entire process. Of course, not only this now, we still have the statutory inquiry to come in terms of lucy letby and what was going on at the countess of chester hospital. So for those families who were involved, it just it seems to just keep going. And there we are talking about lucy letby case. And as we were saying earlier, the police said at the time that they are now going to look into for thousand other suspish baby deaths that may be linked to lucy letby. So for the poor lucy letby. So for the poor parents involved , and this isnt parents involved, and this isnt going to stop, its just going to go on and on. Its so traumatic and having what theyve already been through and of course they werent able to her in werent even able to look her in the eye dock when it came the eye in the dock when it came to passing judgement. To to passing judgement. But so to have again and it have this going again and it must so, traumatic, must just be so, so traumatic, like it gives you honestly, it gives you the chills doesnt it. It does, yeah. Thinking that there may be even more baby deaths linked to her, but well see. Well see. Really, hard to still really, really hard to comprehend that. Comprehend crimes like that. Cant get my i know. Just cant get my head around it. Exactly we interviewed so exactly. We interviewed so many experts over those days , many experts over those days, didnt we . And everybody , even didnt we . And everybody, even the experts who deal with murderers. And you cant get murderers. And you cant get your head around that one, can your head around that one, can you not, children. Itsjust you not, children. Its just its just the lowest low. Lowest of the low. A really trained nurse. A really well trained nurse. Anyway, lets not go on about it now. I guess lets move on to our story because pro and our next story because pro and anti have anti illegal migrant groups have clashed dorset town of clashed in the dorset town of portland over the bibi stockholm bridge protests due to bridge with more protests due to take place later today. Well, our reporter jeff moody is on the scene. Geoff, give us the the scene. Geoff, give us the background and tell us whats happening now. Happening now. Well, a cruise ship is just coming into dock. If you can see coming into dock. If you can see out here in portland port. Its going to be spilling all of its passengers out into portland and theyll be going into weymouth to and theyre going to be greeted by two protests. One in in in favour of no migration whatsoever. And the other demonstration, the stand up to racism demonstration. These racism demonstration. These demonstrations have become more and more angry , more and more and more angry, more and more divisive, more and more bitter as the weeks and months have gone on. Ive been covering this story , as you know, for several story, as you know, for several weeks, and months. And a month ago, two months ago, there would now be a queue of people from portland wanting to talk to me, wanting to put their point of view forward, wanting to be heard. Now now its very hard to get anybody to talk because the back lash that people get is quite unbelievable. Its quite quite unbelievable. Its quite nasty, its quite vicious. These groups have social media accounts and those accounts have been getting very , very been getting very, very personal. When somebody comes on television and puts forward their opinion , then they get a their opinion, then they get a lot of personal attacks. People have been attacked in their workplace. Some people are workplace. Some people are saying to me, look, i want to tell you how i feel , but saying to me, look, i want to tell you how i feel, but i cant because im worried about my job, because other campaigners go to their place of work and say, do you know what the people that work for you have been saying . So its a community saying . So its a community thats completely divided added down here and you get all manner of opinions you get from one end of opinions you get from one end of the spectrum. You get the people that say, we want no migration at all. And on the other end of the spectrum, you get the people that are sitting at the port preparing welcome packs migrants and every packs for the migrants and every view in between. But the view in between. But the situation that we get down here now is that people dont feel that they can express their opinions in the same way that they could before having said that, there will be two demonstrations within the hour at the port , just as the at the port, just as the passengers from the cruise liner begin to descend into portland itself. So theyll be greeted by scenes of anger , frustration and scenes of anger, frustration and bitterness and still not a migrant is on board. Okay, jeff moody, live in portland , thanks for that portland, thanks for that update. And of course, thats a story that well be covering throughout the morning. So stay tuned gb news for all the latest. Its 9 20. Lets take a look at some of the other news stories coming into the newsroom this morning and the sit in island of lampedusa is still struggling to cope with a surge of migrants arriving from africa. Very warm in the south once today , cooler south once again today, cooler further north, but it does turn dner a further north, but it does turn drier a time the drier for a time following the damp weather saw across damp weather that we saw across Northern England, southern and central , as well as Central Scotland, as well as parts of Northern Ireland yesterday the yesterday day. The rain continues for time in this continues for a time in this part of the world in the morning, but it does tend to peter out into afternoon peter out into the afternoon a legacy of cloudy conditions here. Brighter skies further south, but always the threat of some thundery showers through the day because as its relatively humid, air and temperatures peaking. At 26 or temperatures peaking. At 26 or 27 celsius, much cooler for northern scotland, although a bright day here, plenty of crisp september. Sunshine and we keep the clear skies in northern scotland overnight. Great conditions for viewing the aurora, which is expected to be aurora, which is expected to be a good show tonight. Elsewhere, a good show tonight. Elsewhere, a lot of cloud cover and increasingly humid air moving up from the south along with the risk of thundery showers as temperatures in the south 18 celsius. But northern scotland, a widespread frost as we start off sunday. So this marks temperature contrast continues. However the humid air in the south is travelling north. That means cloudier skies for many, but also an increase increasingly warm feel. Used to just watch me my kids used to just watch me do the gardening. Yeah they never interest in never showed any interest in doing any of it themselves. Spectators bought because they cant me and i said, cant help me now. And i said, can you just mow the lawn . Yeah do tomorrow. Do it tomorrow. But then kia, not keir starmer. I hope he says please , not i hope he says please, not another pointless lesson in school. School. It wouldnt be pointless. It wouldnt be pointless. Thats the point. Exactly thats the point. Exactly staunton jim Imelda Staunton and jim carter say gets you out for carter say it gets you out for a start, which is good. You have to put down your mobile, dont you , your phone whatever, you, your phone or whatever, because you get you get stuck in and get your hands dirty. Thats what gardening all about. What gardening is all about. Actually, we have had a lovely picture. Think of one of your picture. I think of one of your gardens. Oh, very good. Who . Gardens. Oh, very good. Who . This is from . This is adrian. Is this is from . This is adrian. Is it . Yeah. Textbook that is a lovely book, but thats like my dads garden. Adrian says we should have it in school again. Ive been a gardener since 13, and i did it professionally. It makes you professionally. It makes you a better person. Yeah, and it better person. Yeah, and it makes you a garden quite nice as well, doesnt it, adrian . That is a stonking garden youve got there, captain. Thats a stonker. Think when you go to i always think when you go to the chelsea flower if you, the chelsea flower show, if you, if you get a chance, i suppose all most flower shows you know and, have garden all most flower shows you know and, and have garden all most flower shows you know and, and itsave garden all most flower shows you know and, and its the garden all most flower shows you know and, and its the gardea design and its the size of a postage stamp isnt it . And yet they so much with it. My they do so much with it. My garden size of a postage garden is the size of a postage stamp chronic. Stamp and it just looks chronic. Honestly yeah. Dreadful. Ive really struggled this year keeping my lawn alive. Not helped fact got helped by the fact ive got paddung helped by the fact ive got paddling the kids paddling pool on it for the kids andifs paddling pool on it for the kids and its just completely dead. It looks like zone and it looks like a war zone and its fingers, but it looks like a war zone and itthink fingers, but it looks like a war zone and itthink im fingers, but it looks like a war zone and itthink im inspired fingers, but it looks like a war zone and itthink im inspired by gers, but it looks like a war zone and itthink im inspired by this. But i think im inspired by this. When i first in, i had when i first moved in, i had astroturf put down and so it always looked beautiful and green, friendly green, but not very eco friendly. And i read so much about why it wasnt very eco friendly in the end. Last year i had it the end. Last year i had it pulled up and put down grass. Yeah, thats good. It looks even worse because its just patches on it everywhere where the dog has been. Yeah, thats part the yeah, thats part of the problem. It, kills all problem. But it, it kills all the fauna underneath doesnt it. All all worms that all the, all the worms and that go you have to hoover it. Go and do you have to hoover it. Were hoovering your lawn. Go and do you have to hoover it. Were yes. Overing your lawn. Go and do you have to hoover it. Were yes. Yes. Ng your lawn. Go and do you have to hoover it. Were yes. Yes. To your lawn. Go and do you have to hoover it. Were yes. Yes. To hooverwn. Go and do you have to hoover it. Were yes. Yes. To hoover it. Yes. Yes. Yes. To hoover it. Yes. Yes. Yes. To hoover it. Wow its high maintenance. Wow its high maintenance. Very high maintenance. Wow its high maintenance. Thinkery high maintenance. Wow its high maintenance. Think astroturf1aintenance. Wow its high maintenance. Think astroturf1ainot|ance. Dont think astroturf is not high maintenance. It really is very high, although it always looked good, you know, on a very hot summer or something when everybody else is grass it was all but now my grass is all down. But now my grass is just a complete dont just a complete mess. I dont know im to pull it know what im going to pull it up down some sort of up and put down some sort of pretty stones or pretty paving stones or something. I think fed with something. I think fed up with it , shall we move on . It anyway, shall we move on . Because were coming to on a subject think very close to subject i think is very close to our im sure it is our hearts and im sure it is for you because its that time of when lots of young of year when lots of young people are to starting people are going to be starting university, the university, but about the opfions. University, but about the options. What about the options options. What about the options for arent setting up for those who arent setting up on campus . Thats because the and thats because the apprenticeship course, apprenticeship apps, of course, are talked about but over apprenticeship apps, of course, are of talked about but over apprenticeship apps, of course, are of adultszd about but over apprenticeship apps, of course, are of adults said out but over apprenticeship apps, of course, are of adults said that but over apprenticeship apps, of course, are of adults said that theyover half of adults said that they wouldnt advising wouldnt be confident advising School Leavers about apprenticeships , putting them in apprenticeships, putting them in the place. The first place. Not though, because fear not though, because we are the studio by are joined in the studio now by ben whos founder ben rowland, whos the founder of apprentices , as well as of art apprentices, as well as the author of the students guide and understanding apprenticeships. Very good apprenticeships. Very good morning you. Good morning. I morning to you. Good morning. I didnt go to university. I did an apprenticeship to learn journalism , and im very proud journalism, and im very proud of that. Now i wasnt actually i had my shoulder about had a chip on my shoulder about not getting university, but not getting into university, but im very now and certainly im very proud now and certainly im very proud now and certainly i earned while i learned. Yeah, brilliant. Great. Yeah. Great. Yeah. So. So what is it then about apprenticeships that arent so accessible . Because i mean , you accessible . Because i mean, you know, blair said education, know, tony blair said education, education, education. And theres feeling now that we theres this feeling now that we have just loads of people with mickey oftentimes mickey mouse degrees. Oftentimes so how do you get youngsters switched on to apprenticeships . Well, i think i think its a great question. First thing we i think the first thing we need to do, particularly if we are advising young people on what do , is to just step back what to do, is to just step back from that pressure that we all feel about that going to uni is the right thing to do for an aspirational young person in that its somehow the symbol, the mark young person the mark that the young person is going to be successful or that as parents been that we as parents have been successful. And thats just not successful. And thats just not borne by the stats. Now, in borne out by the stats. Now, in terms of earning what people earn as graduates, you still earn as graduates, you still earn more as a graduate than if you didnt go to university. But actually if you get an apprenticeship, you earn more than compared to someone who didnt go. You find the right how do you find the right sort of apprenticeship . Do you have what you want to do have to know what you want to do first . And even then, how would you find a company or somebody who can offer you an apprenticeship . So two questions. So two questions. The first one, do you need to know what you need to do . I think thats another myth that we have that we say, what are you going to be . And we ask a five year old, a five year old, huge but we expect huge pressure. But we expect aged should what aged 18, you should know what you well, you know, you want to do. Well, you know, as i say to people, i dont really know what im going to do when you know, and when i grow up. So you know, and we careers zigzag now we know that careers zigzag now one two degrees one son whos done two degrees and know what and still doesnt know what he wants thats fine. I mean, wants and thats fine. I mean, we dont out. And then we dont we find out. And then so this pressure know exactly so this pressure to know exactly what and get your what you want to do and get your dream you know we dream job or your you know we all the x factor. All watching the x factor. Whats where you whats your dream . Where do you want so sort of want to . And so this sort of pressure, which is unnecessary, goes young people. And so goes on young people. And so ive find very best ive got to find the very best apprenticeship that i possibly can. Course, they can. And then, of course, they know in know they might live in the north west dream north west and their dream apprenticeship is somewhere in norfolk. Its like, well, maybe thats reasonable. One of thats not reasonable. So one of the talk about in the the things i talk about in the bookis the things i talk about in the book is what do if your book is what do you do if your dream job, your dream apprenticeship, isnt available to and course, you have to you and of course, you have to you and of course, you have to the employer to persuade the employer that youre be a youre going to be a good employee. Employee. One thing obsessed about one thing im obsessed about is going to be is which careers are going to be made by technology or made obsolete by technology or so. So where are the hotspots of where people should be looking . Where are the shortages . Wheres the yeah. Yeah. So the yeah. Yeah. Well, so the i would Say Technology is a really hot place to go because its changing. So rapidly. And what that means is that its really obvious to employers. One of the obvious to employers. One of the case studies in the book is ibm, and they talk about how if you go to study Computer Science at university, by the time you leave, you learn leave, what you learn in the first has probably first year has probably been overtaken by technology changes. Whereas if youre doing an apprenticeship ship, something changes and you offer apprenticeships. , yeah, theyre award yeah, yeah, theyre award winning. They , they provide through they, they provide through their own apprenticeships, their an flagship for an absolute sort of flagship for the Apprenticeship Program and they doing it 13, 14 they started doing it 13, 14 years ago as a bit of an experiment. And now , you know, i experiment. And now, you know, i wouldnt know that if i had a kid asking me, oh, id love to do something with, you know, it or something. I wouldnt know that ibm has. How do you find out . Well, so apprenticeships. So there is theres a tonne of websites out there, but people dont know about them. And what i want to do is so theyre all unkedin i want to do is so theyre all linked in here. Theyre all referenced in here, all the places that you can go to find the specific apprenticeships. Whats my area whats available now in my area and so forth. But and so on and so forth. But actually to get actually weve got to get teachers advice as teachers careers advice as parents kind of say, parents to almost kind of say, actually, its okay, lets start here, lets have a look, lets begin to research out begin to research and find out whats available. Presumably theres a huge whats available. Pres of ably theres a huge whats available. Pres of competition a huge whats available. Pres of competition toruge whats available. Pres of competition to get amount of competition to get onto these apprenticeships. So what kind of things can can youngsters watching do to get themselves ahead or how can parents help my lad i hes 14 now. Hes doing duke of edinburgh. But i want to get him Work Experience shops. Want Work Experience in shops. I want i him get his hands i want him to get his hands dirty. You know what can make a candidate stand out . Candidate stand out . Great, great question. Yeah, great, great question. So Work Experience is so i think Work Experience is absolutely essential and people shouldnt worry about about what that Work Experience is or how long it is because people often about just getting up in time to get the bus to turn up and do a 9 to 5 stint. Yes. Yeah, yeah. Yes. Yeah, yeah. And sometimes sometimes even less. Its about going into a workplace and just shadowing someone for a couple of hours. Yeah, just losing the fear. Yeah. Losing the fear. Yeah. Losing the fear. And lots of parents, i think, think, oh theyre going think, oh gosh, if theyre going to experience it better think, oh gosh, if theyre going to at experience it better think, oh gosh, if theyre going to at a experience it better think, oh gosh, if theyre going to at a big experience it better think, oh gosh, if theyre going to at a big company e it better think, oh gosh, if theyre going to at a big company with etter think, oh gosh, if theyre going to at a big company with atter think, oh gosh, if theyre going to at a big company with a shiny be at a big company with a shiny office. Let them come into work with you. Yeah. I mean, they might to persuade might not want to persuade you or friend or get your get your friend or your to take your, your your brother to take your, your your brother to take your, your to go and work with your child to go and work with them because that exposure them because just that exposure to okay, this to it and think, oh, okay, this is it works. Is how it works. My lads mate, his dad runs a cobblers and his his dad, turkish always son turkish lad, always wants my son to fantastic. Yeah, to go. Fantastic. Yeah, brilliant know, may brilliant. You know, you may neveh brilliant. You know, you may never, to never, never want to be a cobbler, got go cobbler, but hes got to go in there, get hands dirty , see there, get his hands dirty, see what notes worth. What a pound notes worth. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. See hard days work see what a hard days work is. Understand transactions, give these is. Understand transactions, give all these is. Understand transactions, giveall brilliant these is. Understand transactions, giveall brilliant things. These are all brilliant things. Completely. And so one yeah, completely. And so one of the key that i used to of the key things that i used to that i say to young people and thats in book is theyve thats in the book is theyve got understand is got to understand what a job is because theyre to being because theyre so used to being the sort of the, the consumer of education. So they there and education. So they sit there and theyre stuff and they theyre given stuff and they think they go into a think that when they go into a job, its going be the same. Job, its going to be the same. Its created no, its created for them. No, no, no, its youre there to do no, its not. Youre there to do something thats something for them. Thats why you paid. Good. You get paid. Good. One of my sons did a stint as a barista. And he makes a barista. Yeah. And he makes the most fantastic coffee. All these years later. And with a special little patterns on the cream and everything. Because he knows that leafpad. Wonderful. I leafpad. Its wonderful. Yeah. I always leafpad. Its wonderful. Yeah. I alwajalways wish one of sons i always wish one of my sons had done at least one of had also done at least one of them had done stint learning them had done a stint learning at a pizza type place pizza at a at a pizza type place pizza thing , how to make at a at a pizza type place pizza thing, how to make a at a at a pizza type place pizza thing , how to make a pizza and thing, how to make a pizza and spin the dough and make it properly or gardening, perhaps, or gardening. These are life or gardening. These are life skills actually arent they . And if you can find an apprenticeship or a Work Experience and thats what that books about. Yeah if you can find it anywhere near you, then its worth doing, isnt it . Understanding apprenticeships a students guide by ben roland. So if youre out there this book years ago. Yeah , i just wish that things yeah, i just wish that things like that been told to as like that had been told to me as a kid. Didnt wasnt even aware i didnt wasnt even aware i could go on apprenticeships. You know, university. Know, i went to university. But this i got this is in a day when i got a full grant working class kid, i will never have i dont think id university now. Id go to university now. I dont i could afford it. Dont think i could afford it. Its too scary. No, its too scary. No, its too scary. Its very expensive option. Its a very expensive option. So some people fantastic. W and for some people, some some its the only some professions, its the only thing to yeah, thing youve got to do. Yeah, but always. But not always. And fewer. Fewer and fewer and fewer. Fewer and fewer. So even even becoming a doctor, fully qualified doctor, a fully qualified doctor, a fully qualified doctor, you can now do through an apprenticeship. Thats great. Good lad. Thank you, thats great. Good lad. Thank youright. Right. Right. Goodness. Weve learned my goodness. Weve learned something. I hope you have, too. Thanks very much indeed, ben , thanks very much indeed, ben, this news on your tv , this is dup news on your tv, onune this is dup news on your tv, online and your radio. Do online and on your radio. Do stay us because stephanie stay with us because stephanie is be joining to is going to be joining us to give on that give us an update on that russell hello again. Hello again. Welcome back. Youre watching. And listening to breakfast with anne and martin. Time now for headline makers, where we take a look through the papers as well as other stories which you may not have seen this week. Joining us, week. Today, joining us, journalist and author susan holder and Political Editor at huffpost , kevin schofield. Huffpost uk, kevin schofield. Hello you guys again. One hello to you guys again. One final with emotion. Kev, final time with emotion. Kev, why dont we kick off with you story on the front of the daily mail today. Labours insane 20 mail today. Labours insane 20 mile an hour speed limit. Yeah, i mean, the intro is a Labour Government could bring in blanket 20 mile per hour limits. I think could is doing a lot of heavy lifting here. I mean this is on the back of labour in wales. The government wales. They had the government in are bringing in a 20 in wales are bringing in a 20 mile per zone across wales mile per hour zone across wales and conservatives are and the conservatives are saying, what and the conservatives are saying, and what and the conservatives are saying, and power what and the conservatives are saying, and power are what and the conservatives are saying, and power are doingat and the conservatives are saying, and power are doing in labour and power are doing in wales. Do it in wales. They could well do it in england as well if they win next election , theyre doing it in election, theyre doing it in particular residential areas. It right. Theyre not doing it right. No,sorry. Yeah it is everywhere. Sorry. Yeah it is everywhere. Yeah. No, no. Yeah think it is. Actually. Mi his the 30s h the 30s have actually. All the 30s have gone to 20. Thats 40s have gone to 20. Thats it. No no. What the supporters of this policy say as well it cuts down obviously in accidents which stands to reason and opponents say it hits the economy because journeys take longer. Say it hits the economy because journeys take longer. And theyre pointing to figures which show cost billions of pounds over 30 years. Now it is beyond insane to suggest that labour. Beyond insane to suggest that labour. And beyond insane to suggest that labour. And westminster will do this. I mean , theres just no this. I mean, theres just no way that keir starmer is going to touch this with a bargepole. But i can understand why the conservative are wanting to with labour being so far ahead in the polls that theyre trying to damage them at the moment and the point two things that maybe arent going well wales arent going so well in wales and whats and say, well, thats whats happening with labour power. Happening with labour in power. The happen here if the same will happen here if they here, im they get any power here, but im not people buy. Not sure people will buy. Had alex interestingly, we had alex norris the shadow norris mp thats the Shadow Police on the show Police Minister here on the show earlier to him earlier and we put this to him and said theres no chance and he said theres no chance that this in that labour will bring this in nationwide. Mark drakeford nationwide. And Mark Drakeford and own business. Nationwide. And Mark Drakeford an oh, i see what you mean. Oh, i see what you mean. So, so its actually. So theres weve just theres more fines. Weve just been somebody been speaking to somebody today who been to do who actually has been to do a speed in the same day speed awareness course because they drove something miles per drove at 20 something miles per houh drove at 20 something miles per hour. , what theyll do hour. I mean, what theyll do next well have to next is just well all have to employ walk in front employ somebody to walk in front of flag. With a of our cars with a flag. With a red flag. Of our cars with a flag. With a red yes. And theres a low yes. Yeah. And theres a low traffic just down traffic neighbourhood just down the road me. That one the road from me. And that one camera £5 million, camera to has made £5 million, one camera. So 5 million, its million and millions of pounds. Those things are making. No, it is. Absolutely. And thats why i think the idea that labour are going idea that that labour are going to in this westminster is to engage in this westminster is just for. I tell you the other cost but i tell you the other cost to to the the motorist not to to the the motorist its not good drive good for your engine to drive permanently for an houh its also not good for pollution in pollution because you keep in higher belching more stuff. Its bad for the environment. Yeah hm. Okay. Okay. Yeah hm. Okeremember were having we remember we were having a look this video earlier about look at this video earlier about an incident. Look at this video earlier about an incident. Now, look at this video earlier about an incident. Now, where was it . An incident. Now, where was it . It was it was. It was it was. It was a peckham hair and cosmetics. Its on lane in cosmetics. Its on rye lane in peckham. So was an peckham. So there was an incident where mentioned incident where we mentioned earlier shopkeeper was filmed earlier a shopkeeper was filmed apparently strangling woman apparently strangling a woman who to walk out with some who tried to walk out with some products. She even had to products. She even had tried to get refund on some hair get a refund on some Hair Products before an argument broke out. And she tried to broke out. And she then tried to leave some items. And in leave with some items. And in fact, that shop owner , who i fact, that shop owner, who i believe i went to the area yesterday, i live very near. I spoke to businesses all in the area hes pakistani shop owner. Area. Hes pakistani shop owner. Hes in in fear of hes now in hiding in fear of his life. And hes had to take his life. And hes had to take his children out of school. Well, joining us now is social commentator cynthia juneja. Good morning to you. Thanks for joining us on breakfast. I saw your video on twitter, as it was called, and i just felt compelled to reach to reach out to you because you have a very interesting and forthright take on this. Can you tell us your stance on this, please . Kintish well, thank you so much for having me. I want to start by saying that i first saw the video, that when i first saw the video, particularly the protest, my first thought is that my community, the black community struggling to differentiate different quality , the different quality, the difference between privilege equality looks like being able to hold people accountable , to hold people accountable, which ive done clearly. I which ive done clearly. I mentioned numerous times that completely wrong left his hands around her neck. No man should be doing that. But at the same time, the woman was completely wrong from thinking that she was entitled enough to receive a refund to slap the guy across the face. So as you can, if you watch the video, you can clearly see that two sides were in the wrong. However, people felt compelled to protest over the fact that the woman should have received her refund and the business the right to Business Owner had the right to let her walk out with all of those products. So it had those products. So it just had me questioning this point, me questioning at this point, like, the black like, what is the black community we community looking for . Are we looking equal or looking to have equal rights or are to have are we looking to have privileged rights . Outspoken werent you a very outspoken werent you about the motivation behind the protests . In fact, theres another protest taking place today , cintiq at 2 00 outside today, cintiq at 2 00 outside the shop on rye lane. A lot of grievances being whipped up on the ground. I spoke to local Business Owners opposite the store and they said they dont think this guy can ever go back into business unless he hires an african woman to run his business. What does that say to you about privilege . And this factor of bullying. Okay factor of bullying. Okay sorry about that. The sound completely disappeared , so completely disappeared, so i wasnt able to pick up that question. Question. Santosh, thank you so much for coming on. Im sorry. I think weve got sound problems at both ends. Were having a nightmare with sound today, arent we . But thank you very much, cynthia. Maybe get much, cynthia. Maybe well get another. Another chance to. Yeah, look at that. And i was another chance to. I yeah, look at that. And i was another chance to. I yeaia look at that. And i was another chance to. I yeaia specially|at. And i was another chance to. I yeaia specially keennd i was another chance to. I yeaia specially keen to i was another chance to. I yeaia specially keen to getas a i was a specially keen to get her because been so her on because shes been so brave and outspoken. Shes basically saying stop calling everything racist and take account for your own actions. And there are two sides to every story. And she was very aggrieved that this is being whipped up by people from outside area who are causing outside the area who are causing real tensions in peckham. Its a hugely successful multi cultural community. Asian community community. The Asian Community have been have been shop trading there the very, very there since the 60s very, very early adopters and been early adopters and theres been no trouble until now. That shop , 99 of its customers are black women. There has never been any trouble and now this poor guy, he cant work and hes he cant even work and hes in hiding. It just shows theres i think it just shows theres two to story. And two sides to every story. And maybe thats our responsibility, is to sure you hear both is to make sure you hear both sides. Right. Lets go to sides. Yeah, right. Lets go to what is a very big showbiz type story today. And its well, its story today. And its well, its one that stephanie actually whos here will be able to explain. Its about russell explain. Its about Russell Brand who suddenly is big news today why there is a me too Storm Brewing Russell Brand hes very vocal. He doesnt take things lying down. Hes been approached by a newspaper and a tv station with damaging allegations which he says are serial criminal allegations. And i do feel that allegations. And i do feel that based off a sexual nature, because he says that these allegations go back to the height of his fame. He says all of his relationships and his experiences with women, i know hes been with men as well, have been consensual all so at the moment, channel 4 have a show thats coming out tonight, which is going to be a expose is going to be a big expose looking at comedians who have had serious allegations against them. Its a 90 minute special. This is going go hand in hand this is going to go hand in hand with a newspaper whos also going to be doing a metoo expose. If theyre expose. I dont know if theyre all linked to Russell Brand, but were going to have to wait and see what happens. See what happens. Yes. I mean, this is interesting. Russell brand interesting. So Russell Brand has a video in which has released a video in which he has released a video in which he has good rant. He does. Has a good old rant. He does. And doing it , has a good old rant. He does. And doing it, i guess, to and hes doing it, i guess, to try and put forward his own narrow motive before the programme comes out tonight. We programme comes out tonight. We dont even know if hes on the programme tonight. No, we dont. But he clearly has a lot to say. I think weve got a little clip to show this is Russell Brand having his own say now this isnt the usual type of video we make on this channel where we critique, attack and undermine the news in all its corruption. Because in this story i am the news ive received two extremely disturbing letters or a letter and an email, one from a letter and an email, one from a Mainstream Media tv company, one from a newspaper listing a utany one from a newspaper listing a litany of extremely egregious and aggressive attacks, as well as some pretty stupid stuff like my Community Festival should be stopped that i shouldnt be able to attack Mainstream Media narratives on this channel. But amidst this litany of astonishing , rather baroque astonishing, rather baroque attacks are some very serious allegations. Allegations. Now, thats his video , and now, thats his video, and its gone viral as they say. Its been watched by i mean, he has enormous amount of followers, doesnt he . He does. And i think with all these cases , there becomes a big these cases, there becomes a big witch hunt on social media. You get people innocent , who get people who are innocent, who gets and people are gets named, and people are trying guess who who. So trying to guess who is who. So Russell Brands here. Hes doing his because i can imagine his own pr because i can imagine most like, wait till most pr will be like, wait till the show comes out. If it is to do with the show and see what happens where Russell Brand is actually he has a very narrative. He he has been a very controversial character the controversial character in the past. Now. So its quite past. Before now. So its quite easy to see why he may potentially be linked with this show. Yeah. And in slightly lighter news, strictly strictly is returning today. Back today , bbc1 at 635. Back today, bbc1 at 635. Back today, bbc1 at 635. Is it the First Programme . Its the First Programme and were going to see our very own Angela Rippon putting on her sequins, and were going to find out the celebrities are out who the 15 celebrities are going matched with. Going to be matched with. Be quite so itll be quite interesting. Theres been a few leakages for leakages online, but for audiences at home you can watch angela today showing a bit of her moves. What shes her dance moves. What shes learnt far. Learnt so far. Ive watched strictly , ive never watched strictly, but i think i will tonight. Oh, you have to. Yeah, she says shes going to be 79 years old next month. And she says , old next month. And she says, why didnt producers ask her ten years ago . But she says dancing is a way for society to keep fit, especially as youre getting older. So and shes the oldest ever contestant. The oldest. Shes worth a few quid. I reckon its worth a bet. Oh, yeah, i think it probably is. It is because we know but it is because we know shes she was in her day an incredibly good dancer. So i think she definitely. So i think she will quite will actually surprise quite a few people. Shes the oldest, few people. Shes the oldest, but youngest also bobby but the youngest is also bobby brazier, the son of jade brazier, who was the son of jade goody, the late reality tv star. And hes now on eastenders. Hes been tipped as the favourite to win the glitterball trophy, but he the only reason he says the only reason why thats happening hes thats happening is because hes apparently the youngest and apparently hes the youngest and hes. Yeah, so but i think hes fun. Yeah, so but i think there will be quite a few surprises this. Well surprises on this. Well, well get you get a taste in the do you get a taste in the First Episode of just how natural they are . Natural they are . I just hope theres no strictly is because we strictly curse is because we know about people leaving their partners dancers. So partners for dancers. So hopefully that doesnt happen on this series. Very atmosphere. It very intense atmosphere. It is give over most of is when you give over most of your life to strictly for about three months. People lose a three months. Some people lose a lot of weight as well. See at the beginning you see them at the beginning of show. Then theyre of show. Then when theyre leaving, of leaving, theyve shed loads of pounds. The pounds. But its all about the audience they audience at home because they are their favourites. Cooler south once again today. Cooler further it turn further north, but it does turn dner a further north, but it does turn drier a time following the drier for a time following the damp that saw across damp weather that we saw across Northern England, southern and Central Scotland , as well as Central Scotland, as well as parts Northern Ireland. Yes parts of Northern Ireland. Yes today rain continues for today the rain continues for a time in this part of the world in the morning. But it does tend to peter out into the afternoon in a legacy of cloudy conditions here. Brighter skies further south. But always the threat of some thundery showers through the day because its relatively humid air and temperatures peaking. At 26 or 27 celsius, peaking. At 26 or 27 celsius, much cooler for northern scotland, although a bright day here, plenty of crisp september sunshine and we keep the clear skies in northern scotland overnight. Weve got these heavy outbreaks of rain and thunderstorms moving north at the same time, highs of 20 to celsius. Celsius. Looks like things are heating up.
