But it was a lovely way. Yeah. But it was a lovely celebration of her life. And the nice thing was, i only got to know her. You know, in the last few months of her life. And she said she was going to come on the show and so it was a real shame, obviously, that that never happened. It was never happened. But it was lovely. Lovely. Superleggera was telling superleggera he was telling me sort of fumbled me earlier she sort of fumbled in her handbag a note and in her handbag for a note and they went over place. But it was a lovely thing to be invited to. Well, thing to be invited to. Well, there you go. Nice to celebrate. Lovely to have you back. Lovely to have you back. Thank you very much indeed. Thank you very much indeed. I was late last night i was up late last night watching this Dispatches Programme. Frankly, i should have bed. Programme. Frankly, i should haers, bed. Programme. Frankly, i should haers, well, bed. Programme. Frankly, i should haers, well, its bed. Programme. Frankly, i should haers, well, its across all yes, well, its across all the papers this morning as you would expect. The comedian and actor Russell Brand has been accused of rape, Sexual Assault and Emotional Abuse during a seven year period at the height of his fame. Four women have alleged Sexual Assaults between 2006 and 2013. Whilst he was a presenter for bbc radio two and channel 4 and then, of course, an actor in hollywood films. Others have made a range of accusations about his controlling abusive and predatory behaviour. Well, the findings come from a joint investigation by the sunday times, the times and channel 4 dispatches is the allegations include crew members on his big brother spin off programme fame, claiming they were made to feel as though they were made to feel as though they were working as a pimp by approaching young women on his behalf and claims that he raped a woman at his los angeles home. Their interviews are voiced by actors in the channel a programme and you may find some of this content a little bit distressing. Hes grabbing at my distressing. Hes grabbing at my underwear, pulling it to the side. Side. Im telling him to get off me and he wont get off like holding me up against the wall, pushing himself in me. He grabbed me and got me on the bed. I was fully clothed and he was naked at this point. And he was naked at this point. And he held me down and he was just aggressively trying to, you know, me. Know, me. I was like , oh my god, he i was like, oh my god, he raped me. Raped me. He forced his penis down my throat and i couldnt breathe. I was just choking me. I was crying. And he said , oh, i only crying. And he said, oh, i only want to see your mascara run. Anyway i faux pas and some lady asked what it was regarding and i said, thats regarding Russell Brand being a sex offender. Well , on brand being a sex offender. Well, on social media, brand has denied utterly the allegations and said his relationships have all been consensual. This is what he said on twitter on friday evening amidst this litany of astonishing, rather baroque attacks are some very serious allegations that i absolutely refute. Refute. These allegations pertain to the time when i was working in the time when i was working in the mainstream, when i was in the mainstream, when i was in the newspapers all the time, when i was in the movies. And as ive written about extensive in my books, i was very, very promiscuous. Now, during that time , obe, the time of promiscuity, obe, the relationships were relationships i had were absolute, always absolute, nearly always consensual. Always consensual. I was always transparent that. Transparent about that. Then almost transparent. Im almost too transparent. And im being transparent about it now as well. As well. Well, lets talk to our Showbiz Reporter, Stephanie Takyi, Showbiz Reporter, Stephanie Takyi , whos here. Morning. Takyi, whos here. Morning. Morning. These are very serious claims being made. Claims being made. It is, as Russell Brand said there, hes always been transparent about his his attitude towards sex and the amount of women hes seen over the years. Thats not a shock. What has been shocking now is heanng what has been shocking now is hearing the side of these four women and the claims that they are making against Russell Brand, having been in this showbiz industry for a long time, ive never seen a sting like this in operation where weve had a newspaper and dispatchers come together because theyve been working on this for the past year. Gather bnng this for the past year. Gather bring all this evidence much not many people knew about it. So theyve definitely done it in a different way. Russell brand, different way. Russell brand, rightly so, came out with this video because he had right of reply hes known about reply. But hes known about this for eight days. So he for the past eight days. So he knew that there was going to be a Storm Brewing public. But a Storm Brewing in public. But for brand, its been for Russell Brand, its been business he performed business as usual. He performed at gig in wembley at a sold out gig in wembley yesterday, a bit late. Yesterday, arrived a bit late. He was an hour later. Some people say he was a bit flustered on stage. More than usually he might be. So for russell hes determined Russell Brand, hes determined and fight these allegations. And to fight these allegations. But they have been horrific to hear the side of the story of these women. Yes hear the side of the story of the and omen. Yes hear the side of the story of the and of en. Yes hear the side of the story of the and of course, we have to and of course, we have to remember innocent until proven guilty. And last night will guilty. Yes. And last night will have felt to some people like trial by media and i think and it sort of reminds me of the time. Oh, pardon me, ive got a squeaky chair. It sort of reminds me of the time when the bbc sent helicopters out to spy in on Cliff Richards house while was being raided by while it was being raided by police and that people are going to their minds. To make up their minds. But actually, heard last actually, what we heard last night one side of the night was only one side of the story. Night was only one side of the st0|it was very one sided and it it was very one sided and it was very drama advised. You know, i think usually theres a bit of respect the newspapers bit of respect if the newspapers are to break such stories are going to break such stories where might it in the where they might put it in the newspapers this. Newspapers and leave this. This was into homes was coming into peoples homes and theyve been working on this. I said, past this. As i said, for the past yeah this. As i said, for the past year. So theyve had a very long time present very well put time to present a very well put together case. But Russell Brand is to take these is not someone to take these things lying down. Hes been very, transparent about all very, very transparent about all of his addictions. Hes very much a dark character. But over the past few years, hes transformed himself. Hes become almost a cultural activist , and almost a cultural activist, and hes actually been someone whos actually been supporting womens rights. So this is why its at odds, because i feel like they were portraying an old Russell Brand between two thousand and seven and 26 and 2013. But these are still accusations which people havent made. The Police People havent made. The police are going to have to investigate. I was going to say, this is this is where it does become difficult. As an said, trial by media in that, you know, these are very serious allegations. But what we arent seeing the moment, at arent seeing at the moment, at least , is a arent seeing at the moment, at least, is a Police Investigation. Well, i can imagine that they were watching last night. And, you had some you know, weve had some damaging claims of rape and grooming. One of the accusers is just 16, was 16 years old when she met brand. So for her to be talking about that turmoil, people are always asking, why now . Why do you want to speak now . Why do you want to speak now . And she feels that no 16 year old should we managed to be groomed by a man in in his 30s. So shes calling for changes to be made. Theres accusations of be made. Theres accusations of when Russell Brand was at the bbc and when he was at big brother having these kind of control over women. So theres going to be questions about duty of care, which weve seen previously on the Phillip Schofield case and on the huw edwards thing. So beyond these edwards thing. So beyond these cases , theres always that cases, theres always that bigger question of duty of care and who knew what. Yes. Because its thing for him to say its one thing for him to say these relationships were consensual and they happened at home Something Like that. Home or Something Like that. Theres a whole but then theres a whole other issue of that he is other issue of things that he is alleged have done, absolutely alleged to have done, absolutely appalling behaviour that he is alleged to have whilst he alleged to have made whilst he was the bbc in studios , was at the bbc in studios, whilst he at channel 4 in whilst he was at channel 4 in studios. And that in studios. And that brings in a whole new, as you said, the question of duty of care of those particular inside institutions. And i think, you know from watching night, know from watching last night, it brand was it was almost Russell Brand was portrayed as a martyr and thats the problem with these kind of situations. You realise how did someone get away with this kind of behaviour so long . But its behaviour for so long . But its not surprising to the public. I think as ive said, Russell Brand written it in books brand has written it in books extensively know, hes extensively. He, you know, hes had abusive past. His had a very abusive past. His father used to take him to brothels to sleep with prostitutes. So what hes always you know, hes a dark and sordid character. So its not a surprise. And thats why i think maybe some of the public will sit on the fence about this situation. Situation. Well, we shall. As i say, he he denies these very serious claims against him. And we will have to see whether the police do or not take up an do decide or not to take up an investigation on. Stephanie. For now, thanks very much indeed. , now, what do you feel now, now, what do you feel about 20 mile an hour speed limits on certain roads . Those are coming into force in wales later. Basically 30 goes down to later. Basically 30 goes down to 20. But as the lower speed limit spread across the country, there has been a backlash from some motorists. Yet wales becomes the first country in the uk to introduce this measure on nearly all roads in built up or residential areas country wide. The restricted speed limit, it said, should lead to a reduction in accidents and collisions is saving the welsh nhs £92 million a year. Jack carson has the details. Jack carson has the details. Its not since 1935 that theres been a change to the default speed limit on restricted roads in wales. But from today only 3 of roads remain at 30 miles an hour. But speakers following an election promise from first minister Mark Drakeford to 30 miles an hour is the new speed limit where it was previously 30. It means driving around an area where theres a pavement and streetlights close together. The new restricted speed automatically applies even without a 20 miles an hour sign. For the Welsh Government, its about improving safety with a change expected to result in 40 fewer collisions and encourage people to get around in other ways, like cycling or public transport. After coming under fire in first ministers questions this week , mark questions this week, Mark Drakeford defended his governments policy once the change is there and people see it operating in their areas as it operating in their areas as it has in the part of cardiff where i live. For a number of years now. Then people will see the advantages and i dont believe people will want to return to anything else. I cant imagine anything else. I cant imagine theres anybody on the floor of this senate who would think that it was an unfair price to ask somebody to pay to drive a little more slowly when you know that by doing that, you are helping to keep other people alive. Shadow welsh transport minister Natasha Asghar believes the government should be investing the money spent on this change in other areas as its costing £33 million just to bnng its costing £33 million just to bring into play and on top of that the welsh labour governments own stats have stated its going cost the stated its going to cost the welsh economy between the region of to just under £9 of 2 billion to just under £9 billion. Now we always say Health Economy, transport, economy, public transport, infrastructure, these are such important issues. Weve got a crumbling Health Service here in wales, but for me whats shocking and disgusting is to see willing to see that theyre willing to spend money on a spend this much money on a vanhy spend this much money on a vanity but not invest vanity project but not invest that when comes to health. When the scheme was piloted in eight different areas around the country with analysis finding journeys were finding 95 of journeys were only by minute. Only affected by one minute. With change to 20 miles an with the change to 20 miles an hour today. 30 of roads with the change to 20 miles an hour today. 30 of roads in hour from today. 30 of roads in wales will have the new lower speed. Wales will have the new lower speed. But on the streets of speed. But on the streets of cardiff, the new law gets a mixed reception. Mixed reception. Its a little bit too low because if any traffic jams or anything like that, itll be going along as a snail space. You know, the cars will be going even slower than they are at the moment. I live in the north of cardiff and thats already been 20 miles an hour in most of the roads in our area for quite a long time. But its made my road much safer in the whole and better for my children who can go out more safely in the area. More safely in the area. Ones ive gone down, the ones ive gone down, people were having trouble keeping to the 20. Do you know what i mean . I mean , lets be what i mean . I mean, lets be quite honest about a lot of people have trouble keeping to the 30. I think its a lot safer for everybody, especially children. Everybody, especially children. Yeah, im for it. Its estimated the welsh will save £92 million with the change due to the less serious injuries caused at lower speed and for 12 months its expected roadside police will favour education over fines when it comes to people breaking the new speed limit. The message today from limit. The message today from the Welsh Government that 20 is plenty. Jack carson gb news cardiff love your thoughts on that this morning. Gb views gbnews. Com is it just a safety measure . Is it an attack on motorists . I dont know. Well, they say theyre going to make a fortune from speed cameras of , i to make a fortune from speed cameras of, i presume, to make a fortune from speed cameras of , i presume, lots of cameras of, i presume, lots of us not really getting used to the fact that even if you go over one mile an hour to 21 or something, youll be done and that becomes an earner for the government. Yes it does. Anyway, keep your thoughts coming through. It is 615. Lets just remind you of our top stories here on breakfast and a defiant Russell Brand has performed to fans at wembley. Performed to fans at wembley. Last night, just hours after being accused of Sexual Assault i as weve been saying , wales as weve been saying, wales introduces default 20 mile an hour speed limits on roads across the nation, with senior politicians saying its absolutely insane and coming up, why did Manchester United fans boo their manager . Boo their manager . Yesterday, aidan magee got the answers. The answers. Not all roads mean across wales are going down to 20. Not everything, but its 30. Its basically everything thats 30 will become a 20. And i think that may catch a lot of motorists out. Id be quite annoyed by that. Ive got to be honest. I would be quite annoyed by that. It will make roads safer, though, wont it . Will it . I dont know. I mean, theres a real pro and anti argue, isnt there, because i think motorists struggle to drive at 20. Yeah it is very slow. Is very slow. It is very slow. I just feel like motorists are just getting hammered every which way at the minute. They are arent they. Theyre they are arent they. Theyre sort of public enemy number one. Is that how you feel . Its a day to maybe. Maybe its a day to stay in today. Was beautiful stay in today. It was beautiful yesterday. And then certainly when i was driving home, theres massive of but massive amounts of rain. But anyway, was it like where anyway, what was it like where you todays you are . Now the Summer Season is officially at an end and many tourist businesses are counting their pennies to see if they add up to pounds. Has the summer been profitable . Is it enough to keep them going through the long winter months . Winter months . Southwest of england, reporter jeff moody went to exmoor to see how trade there has survived a bit of a wet summer and how theyre gearing up for the winter season ahead. Up for the winter season ahead. I catching some late summer sun visitors to exmoor are still piling into the tea rooms, but theres a problem. Theyre spending less. Anthony howard runs a tea room and post office in withypool on exmoor at the moment, the post office doesnt make money. As you see, theres lots of post offices in the area closing down and my office itself makes a loss. So what supports it is a loss. So what supports it is the retail side. So when you do come in to post that letter or post parcel , come in to post that letter or post parcel, what we want you to do is to spend a little bit in the shop on your way out because were just as cheap or even cheaper than some pirates. You find in the supermarkets. But we dont the source to promote dont have the source to promote that, to say, hey , you know, that, to say, hey, you know, this is how cheap we are. And this is how cheap we are. And people just assume the local village shop is more expensive. Village shop is more expensive. So if you want these local services , please come and services, please come and support our local Retail Businesses in the west country tourism has been down around 20 this summer and visitor spend is down even more. Down even more. People are stocking up on sandwich from the supermarket rather than buying fancy cakes higher king on the moors rather than paying for day trips. And thats worrying the people at visit exmoor. Visit exmoor. The key thing about this all is trying to encourage visitor owners and locals to spend to make the most of the facilities and the services and the hospitality that we have across the area that in itself gives the area that in itself gives the businesses the confidence and ability to open all year round six, seven days a week. And provide those services and its kind of everybody its everybody working together. Many businesses are finding theyre no longer able to open full time , leaving locals hard, pushed to find Services Early in the week , james king took over the bridge inn in dulverton just weeks ago. Hes convinced with a right offering he can stay open seven days a week. I think the fact that so many other people arent doing it, it is a sign that perhaps the market isnt there. But from my understanding, speaking to people locally, the fact that so many people dont do it is actually an opportunity for us. Im led to believe that the sundays and mondays, whilst others are closed , may well be others are closed, may well be our busiest days. But james is the exception. But james is the exception. So the message from the retailers is use us or lose us. Jeff moody gb news is there you go. Lets hope they can keep the money rolling in best they can. Now time for the sport this morning. Aidan magee is here. Morning, aiden. Good morning. Good to see you both. A bit of a clobbering for manu. Absolutely. Yeah home match their third defeat in five matches. Second defeat at home to brighton in consecutive seasons. Won seasons. Brighton never won there in the previous 14 visits. Prior season or prior to prior to this season or prior to last season, rather. So booed off the pitch as well. And ill just at erik ten hag the just look at erik ten hag the coach side of the pitch. Coach and the side of the pitch. He interviewed the he was interviewed after the game and he was asked about the booing substituted booing when he substituted rasmus hoiland and said, oh rasmus hoiland and he said, oh yeah, think were the yeah, i think they were just the fans acknowledging his fans were just acknowledging his contribution off. Contribution as he came off. That was not what was that clearly was not what was going on. And i sometimes think, steven, when is steven, when a coach is beginning to lose, lose, lose kind of whats going on kind of grip of whats going on around sometimes the around him, sometimes thats the beginning end. Beginning of the end. Three defeats. Already this season, hes problems with the hes had huge problems with the anthony with Mason Anthony situation with Mason Greenwood , and i think greenwood situation, and i think if youre going to be tough, youre to be a youre going to be a disciplinarian. He proved he disciplinarian. As he proved he was with ronaldo last season, he probably some probably needs to get some results pitch results on the pitch now. Otherwise you risk alienating everybody and theyre down to 13th now. One of their worst starts to the season the starts to the season in the premier era. Premier league era. Not they were, theyre not what they were, are certainly not. Certainly not. Certainly not. Certainly not. And look, managing Manchester United different thing, a united is a different thing, a different every other united is a different thing, a diffe in|t every other united is a different thing, a diffe in|t world. Youre games now youre going to get games now where just going to go where theyre just going to go on next day. Richarlison on to the next day. Richarlison was somebody who said this week hes suffering mental hes been suffering from Mental Health that health issues. They beat Sheffield United theyre up to united 2 1 and theyre up to theyre up to second in the league i mean good league well well i mean good good them you do good news for them but you do wonder about this this whole Psychological Health and personal issue. Psychological health and perwhat issue. Psychological health and perwhat going sue. Psychological health and perwhat going on. Psychological health and perwhat going on with these what is going on with these footballers . Are footballers . Are they under are they under that much pressure . His manager, they are. And his manager, postecoglou, the postecoglou, said earlier in the week look, you know, week he said, look, you know, everybody problems at everybody suffers problems at various their various times in their lives. And sometimes at and we sometimes look at footballers and think, well, theyve got fame, theyve footballers and think, well, thejthe got fame, theyve footballers and think, well, thejthe money, fame, theyve footballers and think, well, thejthe money, theyve heyve got the money, theyve got the adulation. Have. Adulation. They have. People adore from whether they adore them from whether they play adore them from whether they play whether play international or whether they domestically. That they play domestically. And that somehow from somehow makes them immune from from issues that affect from any issues that affect would affect people ordinary would affect people in ordinary daily and i dont think daily life. And i dont think thats struggled thats the case. Hes struggled with got two with tottenham. Hes got two goals games, having signed with tottenham. Hes got two goalseverton ames, having signed with tottenham. Hes got two goalseverton forzs, having signed with tottenham. Hes got two goalseverton for something;igned from everton for something around million last summer. Around £60 million last summer. So not easy. The so its not been easy. The pressures on him. Hes pressures been on him. Hes played for when hes played well for brazil when hes played well for brazil when hes played them, just played for them, but he just hasnt at tottenham. But hasnt fit in at tottenham. But that him a real boost that will give him a real boost yesterday. And yeah, look, its an increasing problem. We have seen over seen players struggling over the last years theyre last few years and theyre getting coming out getting braver about coming out about it, which is great. Yeah, it is. Yeah, yeah, it is. Yeah, yeah, it is. Must aiden money must help. Aiden money must help. Well, it does ease some well, yeah, it does ease some of the issues. I would have thought so. We are, of course , on your tv, online and course, on your tv, online and on your radio. So if youre nipping out, you can still take us with you. Heres a reminder of those top stories. Well, a defiant Russell Brand has performed to fans at wembley just hours after being accused of Sexual Assault. Of Sexual Assault. Rhodes and wales are about to get even slower. 30 goes down to 20 mile an hour speed limit, speed limits. And thats happening today on all roads in wales. And campaigners say it wales. And campaigners say it will save lives. But some senior government politicians say say its insane. Its insane. And after the education secretary warned eco activist students not to ruin their life chances by getting too political, basically, we debate whether young people should be able to be passionate about their beliefs without worrying about their future careers. About their future careers. I suppose thats very much about young people. If they want to go green and join a campaign. People used to be in cnd and then later on be politicians and that would be held against them. Well yeah, and i think there is a huge problem at the minute because of social media. Basically, whatever youve done, youve said, done, whatever youve said, whatever tweeted be done, whatever youve said, whauper tweeted be done, whatever youve said, whaup years tweeted be done, whatever youve said, whaup years latereeted be done, whatever youve said, whaup years later and d be done, whatever youve said, whaup years later and be be done, whatever youve said, whaup years later and be held dug up years later and be held against you. And if youre young and passionate and a bit carried away with yourself, you could Say Something really difficult that would maybe haunt in that would maybe haunt you in a later career. So youve got to be careful. And thats, i hope, be careful. And thats, i hope, what were teaching kids in schools. Yeah, weve got to be careful. But also maybe we as a society should be a little bit more forgiving, i think. So youve got to expect young people be more sort of people to be a bit more sort of passionate about some things and people get very passionate about issues, dont they . Well harvey, harvey says if we are lowering speed limits, why are Car Manufacturers Still Producing bigger and faster cars . Because we want them. Because we want them. We like them, dont we . We like them, dont we . Actually, they are also trying to produce greener cars. Yes. They are. Ellie yes. Yeah, they are. Ellie says 20 mile an hour speed limits require lower gears. This might result in even greater pollution , apparently now as pollution, apparently now as reading only this morning, ellie, because ive been thinking that well. Thinking that as well. Apparently thats not the case. It doesnt increase pollution , it doesnt increase pollution, but it does do is increase frustration. Yeah, youre going especially if its an empty 20 mile an hour road and its big and wide enough and all the rest of it. Oh, sean, i like your point. If governments want to save lives, should bring back lives, they should bring back those Old Fashioned Public Information, films and posters like we had in the 70s. People wearing earplugs now step out onto the road without looking and i totally. I used to love those Public Information films and a lot of people might say, oh, very nanny state. We are bigger and better than that nowadays. I like those nowadays. But i like those pubuc nowadays. But i like those Public Information. Work, didnt they . Yeah they work, didnt they . Yeah charlie says, do remember charlie says, do you remember those . Charlie yeah, those . Charlie says says, yeah, yeah , thats right. Yeah, thats right. Yes. Yes. Charlie cat. I used to charlie the cat. I used to love that they were aimed at children. And there was the green cross code was it . Code man was it . There was. Yeah. Hes yes, there was. Yeah. Hes the man who. He was darth vader. He was, yeah. He was, yeah. The man in very famous. The man in the very famous. Not voice for darth vader, not the voice for darth vader, though, obviously. Was though, obviously. That was james earl jones. Live on a 30 and he says, i live on a 30 mile an hour road and id love it to go down to 20 miles an hour at times. Its like the grand prix outside our house. And agree as well and i agree as well because i live on a road thats ostensibly 30 people through at 40 and 30 people whiz through at 40 and 50, i think thats disgusting. But why cant they just keep it 30, though . See, thats it to 30, though . See, thats the thing. Its and put in the thing. If its 30 and put in a built up area going through a village, it should be 20. I wouldnt mind 20. Wouldnt you let everything crawl by . Oh, nice. It drives me mad. It would drive me mad. But anyway, your thoughts anyway, keep your thoughts coming talk to coming through. Lets talk to the editor of spike, tom slater , and broadcaster nick , author and broadcaster nick hodgson. Good morning good hodgson. Good morning here. Good to this morning. Whats to see you this morning. Whats your on speed limits . Nicky your view on speed limits . Nicky wow is a new mom. Does that does wow is a new mom. Does that does that twist your perspective . That twist your perspective . Yes, it does slightly. Im a non driver as well. So thats quite thats quite important. And also, my husband actually had to do a speed awareness course this week because he was four miles over the limit at 5 am. In the morning when we go into an airport a couple of weeks ago. And he said that actually he learnt some things that he really didnt know that that he really didnt know that that you know, just this the smallest numbers speed smallest numbers above the speed limit can really cause a lot of harm. Basically and i do because i mean, my absolute bugbear actually as a new mom with a pram is if you go on a zebra crossing and cars wait till the very last minute to put the brakes on. Its so noisy and youre not sure whether they are. Youve got it. Youve got noidea are. Youve got it. Youve got no idea theyve actually seen no idea if theyve actually seen you so you end up you or not. So you end up wearing really bright colours and putting things on the pram to and help with it. If ive to try and help with it. If ive got dog well, got the sausage dog as well, then a bit of a then it becomes a bit of a nightmare. But dont you just wait until the has stopped. But you cant with a weve got a zebra crossing by our house leytonstone and the house in leytonstone and the traffic just continuous back traffic is just continuous back and you and forth all day. You absolutely it, though, absolutely need it, though, because way get because theres no way you get across road. To a big across that road. Its to a big park. Everyone uses it. But yeah, you kind you just sort yeah, you kind of you just sort of time you go youre of every time you go youre anxious about it. Tom i think this is crazy. Tom i think this is crazy. Got say, im ive got to say, im a non driver as well. But i do just feel like at this point, the any of the motorists are getting hammered from all different directions. Get different directions. And i get that theres safety that theres the safety argument. Can take argument. But if you can take that to its logical that argument to its logical conclusion, going that argument to its logical co do . Sion, going that argument to its logical co do . Five going that argument to its logical co do . Five miles going that argument to its logical co do . Five miles an going that argument to its logical co do . Five miles an hour, oing that argument to its logical co do . Five miles an hour, six; to do . Five miles an hour, six miles an hour . Presumably it gets safer the lower gets safer and safer the lower you go. Theres obviously a trade take place trade off that has to take place here. Just think that here. And i just think that something this is, you Something Like this is, you know, the costs are going to outweigh benefits, think do. You think its also a sort of stealthy a stealth on stealthy way, a stealth tax on motorists theres motorists because theres no doubt going to doubt speed cameras are going to clobber people. And they say the speed are going to speed cameras are not going to be tolerant even one be very tolerant of even one mile limit, mile an hour over the limit, which going have which means youre going to have to at about 18 just to crawl along at about 18 just to crawl along at about 18 just to be arent you . Yeah. To be safe, arent you . Yeah. The calibration on on on your car going at. Well car saying youre going at. Well its meant off a bit. Its meant to be off a bit. Meant to be 10 plus its meant to be 10 plus two. Yes. Is it going to be any but is it going to be any more. I think theyre saying theyre to be less tolerant. Its to going be more yeah, its to going be more precise. Yeah, its to going be more pre yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Make a em yeah. Make a fortune. But so itll make a fortune. But they wales its going to they say in wales its going to save million on the health save £92 million on the Health Service. I dont know they service. I dont know how they make i dont know. Make these. No i dont know. Computer models some computer models somewhere saying somewhere a year out saying im somewhere a year out saying im so well. It so specific as well. Yeah, it does question these things. But nicky, some the other but nicky, some of the other headunes but nicky, some of the other headlines have caught your headlines that have caught your eye this morning actually on on the as a Million People the express as a Million People are nhs and going private. Yes, we know that people are yes, we know that people are already doing it with private health theres what, Health Insurance. Theres what, more than 7 Million People currently waiting for nhs treatment. Its astronomical. Its gone so. Much between its gone up. So. Much between 2022 and 2023. And you know , 2022 and 2023. And you know, people cant wait. If youve got a serious illness or youre worried that you have time is not on your side. If you were on an nhs waiting list and you understand why people are doing it, the problem is the problem, of is that people are of course, is that people are wiping their savings or wiping out their life savings or preparing to in order to pay for life saving treatment. And it life saving treatment. And it seems a bit unfair if youve paid tax your whole life and youve paid a system and youve paid into a system and the ill pay taxes and the deal was ill pay taxes and you give me health care, its not the end of the day. Yeah, well, i agree but i can also understand the frustration from at least from those people who at least have the at least option, have the at least an option, even if its digging into the savings, to say, im not waiting anywell, of course you think if well, of course you think if its thats at stake, its your life thats at stake, of going put of course youre going to put that of course youre going to put tha and of course, the problem is and of course, the problem is you wouldnt be to go to an you wouldnt be able to go to an Insurance Company just Insurance Company and just suddenly take out Health Insurance very thing suddenly take out health invaerya very thing suddenly take out health invaery condition very thing the very condition you would want have treated would be want to have treated would be considered pre existing considered a pre existing condition and they wouldnt insure you. Insure you. And fascinating that and its fascinating that people starting have to people are starting to have to make calculations make these calculations because that the whole thing about that was the whole thing about the is you didnt the Health Service is you didnt need worry about you need to worry about money if you got yet thats being got sick. And yet thats being reintroduced the reintroduced not because the health taken Health Service has been taken away, because this away, but just because this waiting has basically waiting list has basically turned the Health Service into precisely turned the Health Service into preciseto see a doctor. Its not queue to see a doctor. Its not actually something thats treated. The other thing going treated. Saya other thing going treated. Say about thing going treated. Say about health going treated. Say about Health Insuranceg treated. Say about Health Insurance is to say about Health Insurance is theres of conditions that theres loads of conditions that it doesnt its terrible theres loads of conditions that it cmental its terrible theres loads of conditions that it cMental Health, s terrible theres loads of conditions that it cMental Health, s teexample. Theres loads of conditions that itcant ntal health, s teexample. Theres loads of conditions that itcant get health, s teexample. Theres loads of conditions that itcant get itealth, s teexample. Theres loads of conditions that itcant get it for h, s teexample. Theres loads of conditions that itcant get it for h, s teethelple. I cant get it for any of the things that ive had. And i think theyre very, very clever about out about what they wont pay out for. Thats going to have to for. So thats going to have to change as well. Yes, there are limits as well. You you if you you know, if you if you choose certain surgeon, he choose a certain surgeon, he might be covered by your might not be covered by your health have to Health Insurance. So you have to pay Health Insurance. So you have to pay for a surgeon pay extra or look for a surgeon who is. I was i e i was i was who is. I was i was looking yeah, i was i was looking because things. Because we have health things. You insurance you often get Health Insurance in of jobs. And was in these sort of jobs. And i was thinking when my crown fell out because was £800 to have a because that was £800 to have a crown. £800. Know. Nearly crown. £800. I know. Nearly passed out in the dentist chair when ill look at when they said so. Ill look at that, if ive got any cover that, see if ive got any cover on this. No dental, no. There is dental and this accident you rang up and said can you cover dental and this accident you rangfor and said can you cover dental and this accident you rangfor and said can you cover dental and this accident you rangfor a crown . I can you cover dental and this accident you rangfor a crown . Yes. You cover dental and this accident you rangfor a crown . Yes. We] cover dental and this accident you rangfor a crown . Yes. We covered me for a crown . Yes. We covered the dental. But does it include crowns . Oh is that it wouldnt, would it. It just wouldnt, would it. It just wouldnt, would it . It covers everything apart from having a crown replaced. So i had to fork out. 800. 800. Yeah 800. Yeah you can spend a lot of money. You can spend a lot of money. Too much. Too much. Yeah, a lot of money. Yeah, a lot of money. Can we talk about donald trump and what hes been saying . Why not . Yes. This is a video clip which has been put out, which is donald trump making an argument that hes been making for some time, which is to say that in ukraine would that the war in ukraine would never had he never have happened had he been president. It in a president. He acts it out in a particularly amusing fashion insofar simulates insofar as he kind of simulates this conversation the insofar as he kind of simulates this of nversation the insofar as he kind of simulates this of them. Tion the insofar as he kind of simulates this of them. Ion the insofar as he kind of simulates this of them. I dont the insofar as he kind of simulates this of them. I dont know the insofar as he kind of simulates this of them. I dont know ife insofar as he kind of simulates this of them. I dont know if we two of them. I dont know if we have. Yes, we have. A look. Lets have a look. Lets have a look. Have a look i lets have a look before i even arrive the Oval Office Even arrive at the oval office shortly i win the shortly after i win the presidency, will have the presidency, i will have the horrible war between russia and ukraine would ukraine settled and it would have ukraine settled and it would hav it would have never, ever it would have never, ever happened if i was there. I used to talk to putin about it. Ive said it very openly. I talked to him about it was the apple of his eye. I said, dont do it, vladimir. Dont do it. Vladimir oh, youll be making such a mistake. And i told him a couple mistake. And i told him a couple of things. He you wouldnt of things. He said, you wouldnt do said, yes , i will, do that. I said, yes, i will, no, you wouldnt. And he probably didnt me, probably didnt believe me, but he thats all he believed me. 10. Thats all you but i said, dont do you needed. But i said, dont do it. As soon as i left, they started form and i mean, what started to form and i mean, what are we what are we to make of that . Because although part of me wants to look at that and say, this is just crackers. Wants to look at that and say, this is just crackers. Hes the man who went to meet kim jong un fire and fury and all that. I mean, that was one thing that an argument that he is which one he is, is the one he. Yeah. And but that was one argument that some people would make trumps they make in trumps favour. They would they call would say its what they call the theory. The mad man theory. Diplomacy whereby well, yeah, diplomacy whereby by constantly kind of sabre rattling and by trying to give the impression that as trump is quite impulsive and could , you quite impulsive and could, you know, for the red button know, reach for the red button at particular that at any particular time, that thats tyrants thats going to keep tyrants like in check. Like putin in check. Dont how much id i dont know how much id necessarily believe that. One thing is very clear is thing i think is very clear is that got the that you kind of got the opposite joe biden in the opposite from joe biden in the run invasion. And run up to the invasion. And people saying in people remember him saying in press a minor press conferences that a minor incursion be tolerated. So incursion might be tolerated. So i whilst im not i think whilst im not necessarily board the necessarily on board with the idea that trump bloviating would have difference have been the difference here, i think the indications think certainly the indications they were getting from the new occupant of the white house could of could easily have kind of encouraged could easily have kind of enctheres that when we theres no doubt that when we discuss we sort of say , discuss this, we sort of say, oh, youve got to be careful of putin because hes hes absolutely raving he absolutely raving mad and he could press button. We absolutely raving mad and he couldwant; button. We absolutely raving mad and he couldwant; you tton. We absolutely raving mad and he could want; you know, we absolutely raving mad and he couldwant; you know, wante absolutely raving mad and he could want; you know, want to dont want to, you know, want to get into situation. Maybe get into that situation. Maybe with theyre with donald trump. Theyre thinking thing. Dont thinking the same thing. Dont infuriate trump because he actually might do it. Infuriate trump because he actllally might do it. Infuriate trump because he actllally m maybe it. Infuriate trump because he actllally m maybe thats infuriate trump because he act| i ally m maybe thats true infuriate trump because he actllally m maybe thats true. I think maybe thats true. Maybe theres an element of one upmanship think whats upmanship there. I think whats really about that clip is really funny about that clip is the of so the way that its kind of so kind down to earth, as if, kind of down to earth, as if, did he really say it in that voice putin . You sort of voice to putin . You sort of think you sort of imagine the scene, sort scene, dont you . And you sort of happen. I think of think it did happen. I think what hes really good doing, what hes really good at doing, though, is connecting with the audience. Very, very audience. Thats its very, very skilful, there. Skilful, what he does there. Just lap up. But they just lap it up. But they just lap it up. Knows what he of course, he knows what he knows want say. Knows what they want him to say. They know knows how he wants they know he knows how he wants. Him to deliver that. They want him to deliver that information was in a information even if it was in a formal i know, it formal email or i dont know, it wouldnt been that. I tell wouldnt have been that. I tell you what strikes me, which clearly resonating with you what strikes me, which cleaof resonating with you what strikes me, which cleaof his resonating with you what strikes me, which cleaof his core ;onating with you what strikes me, which cleaof his core people, with you what strikes me, which cleaof his core people, but] you what strikes me, which cleaof his core people, but the any of his core people, but the i part of sort of i mean, part of the sort of scandal around him was that he was too close putin. Was too close to putin. Said, having they said, well, im having chats vladimir and all. Chats with vladimir and all. Well, but his point is, i was close him because it was close to him because it was keeping close to him because it was keesog worked a tactic. So it worked as a tactic. So it worked as a tactic. The allegation was, of but the allegation was, of course, get course, that putin helped get him course, that putin helped get hinyes. Which i think was yes. Which i think was broadly been discredited by this point. Think that was point. I think that was something was very something that was very comforting to particularly the kind of democratic establishment, because they thought, how could they vote for this yes, i think this person . But yes, i think whether or not he was kind of soft in his relationship to russia is question. But russia is one question. But i think that he was a think the idea that he was a kind of manchurian candidate i never man , churian candidate oh, man, churian candidate get good movie. Thats a good movie. Thats a good movie. What, youre ill tell you what, youre youre a clever lad. Lets have a look at the mirror. Companies , tom have mirror. Fuel companies, tom have agreed. I dont get this. Theyve agreed to a scheme where we can check out petrol prices. Except that already exists. I didnt realise that theres already apps that do it on some cdls. Cars. It shows on the. On your your satnav. It shows the petrol satnav. It shows the petrol pnces satnav. It shows the petrol prices as youre driving about already. You heard it here first but so it seems like the governments competition watchdog is playing catch up with these other apps so with all these other apps and so on. But and its also quite limited schemes. Theres only about 4000 forecourts apparently. This apparently. We can access this information for also, if it is what it seems like , like what it seems like, like a widget in a website, thats not something we can do. Reach for your whilst youre, you your phone whilst youre, you know, side of the know, park up on the side of the road, your and road, reach for your phone, and then car. Road, reach for your phone, and the do car. Road, reach for your phone, and the do that. Car. Do that. Do that. No, car doesnt. But no, my car doesnt. But Mercedes Benz is have showed that whether if a diesel that whether if its a diesel car it shows a diesel prices its a petrol shows the its a petrol car, it shows the petrol its a petrol car, it shows the pet its a lot to though its a lot to read though isnt it, youre driving. Isnt it, if youre driving. Well you get an idea when youre traffic light. Its great traffic light. Its a great idea, though. It really idea, though. I mean, it really is good idea. Idea, though. I mean, it really is goo point|. Idea, though. I mean, it really is goo point out that, know, and point out that, you know, you paying £20 extra you can end up paying £20 extra just the basis of pulled into just on the basis of pulled into the thats closest to you the one thats closest to you and on. So its one of those and so on. So its one of those things particularly things where particularly because on because of the pressures on peoples budgets are so difficult things difficult at the moment, things like this are definitely going difficult at the moment, things likbe 1is are definitely going difficult at the moment, things likbe 1is itelliefinitely going difficult at the moment, things likbe 1is itell youitely going to be ill tell you what, i always i always im always i always think im talking drivers about talking to two non drivers about it, but ill talk you an it, but ill talk to you an about it. The tell what i do the i tell you what i do think is you think, oh, well ill go over because its a few pence cheaper you often probably spend petrol getting to spend more in petrol getting to and from and you when you and from and you say when you get a queue get there theres a queue because everybodys the because everybodys doing the same thing on the same app. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well so its one of i tell you what information is power though. Well yeah. And if your budget depends staying £20 under depends on staying £20 under a certain , then is vital certain limit, then it is vital for survival. E choice when i never had the choice when i. To fill up, ive i. When i need to fill up, ive always taken it to the very last breath running on fumes. Breath in the running on fumes. I hate stopping for petrol. I i hate stopping for petrol. I dont know why i hate it. So i leave to the very last moment leave it to the very last moment. And then course ive got no. And then of course ive got no choice because to go to choice because ive got to go to the very nearest. Yeah yeah. No, im a bit like that myself. Ive got to do it myself. But ive got to do it every and its £120 a week. Every and its like £120 a week. I know. Itsjust terrible oh i know. Its just terrible isnt oh i know. Its just terrible isnon petrol. Its honestly it on petrol. Its honestly it drives prices drives me insane. Those prices need down. Look, dont need to come down. Look, dont move you two, because move an inch, you two, because at 645, were just going to have at 645, were just going to have a our top stories a look at our top stories today. Just and just to remind you. And a defiant Russell Brand has performed fans at wembley performed to fans at wembley just hours after being accused of rape and Sexual Assault. And of rape and Sexual Assault. And despite opposition from some senior government mps, 20 mile an hour speed limits continue to be rolled out across the uk from today. All roads in wales that are 30 miles an hour will be reduced to 20 road safety campaigners have welcomed the move and are you one of the workers calling in sick because youre scared of the apocalypse . The apocalypse . Well have a look through that in our headline makers in just a sec. Just a sec. Think its the front page of the star daily star sunday. Is it one here . Is it one here . Over there . Yes here it is. Its got to be a daily star. Sunday story. Yes, the end of the world is nigh. So i may be late in tomorrow. Ive heard some excuses in my time. Workers are skiving young people. So here we go. People, youngsters are staying at home because they fear the end of the world. Youre young. Youre young. Youre young. Im constantly gripped by here at the end. But is there a serious side to this . Actually, there has been research which is to suggest that think call it that i think they call it climate or eco anxiety climate anxiety or eco anxiety or Something Like this, which is to young people to say, because young people from age are from quite a young age are pumped a very kind of doom pumped with a very kind of doom laden message. It those just stop you see it in those Just Stop Oil when theyre you see it in those Just Stop Oil on when theyre you see it in those Just Stop Oil on top. En theyre climbing on top. Greta thunbergs is this Greta Thunbergs because she went round to the to the un everyone everywhere, the un and everyone everywhere, didnt saying you have didnt she saying you have destroyed my future. Want you destroyed my future. I want you to panic. I dont i dont know. I dont i dont know. I dont i dont know. I dont i you know, i care about it. I care deeply about it. Now that ive got a little baby. It. Now that ive got a little baby. But, it. Now that ive got a little baby. But, you it. Now that ive got a little baby. But, you know, do you know baby. But, you know, do you know were all going to die anyway, old man . Did you not care deeply about it before . Did you not care deeply about it bille . Did you not care deeply about it bill be really honest. Ill be really honest. I didnt enough and didnt care enough about it. And now think about her. Shes now i think about her. Shes made care about loads more made me care about loads more things, actually. I think things, actually. So i think thats wonderful about thats the wonderful thing about having you like having a child. But you like your having a child. But you like youare like an ex smoker as are you like an ex smoker as far dont preach to far as i know, i dont preach to the people about it. I dont. I dont take things out of the rubbish and put them in the recycling. Then give my husband a lesson it. I husband a lesson about it. I just quietly do more. Just quietly do quietly do more. Anxiety but i think climate anxiety is thing. At least is a very real thing. At least two of my sons feel it badly. They just get depressed by they just get so depressed by the continuous sort of a the bad weather makes people talk about it, doesnt it . And then they read reports and they care enough to actually deeply get affected by it. I think its quite , quite real. Quite, quite real. Do you worries about me . Do you worries about me . I knew someone who, after the brexit vote, had to go to counselling because they had brexit anxiety. Brexit anxiety. Thats what thats one of the things that does make young people. I was just like, what . Get grip. Yeah, but you can do that. Yeah, but you can do that. Wasnt the real underlying issue was it . It was. That was probably the thing that was used as funnel anxiety. Brexit as a funnel for anxiety. Brexit did up the wall. Definitely not in a very healthy fashion. Terrified. Know, you terrified. You know, if you its seriously that people disagreed them. Its seriously that people disseriously them. Its seriously that people disseriously depressed some seriously depressed some people did. People it really did. All right. All right. How we because but how do we because i mean youve experience youve got a lot of experience with mental you with with Mental Health. You know, from some know, youve suffered from some Mental Health issues and you so youre it more than most youre across it more than most people, lets put it that way. People, lets put it that way. Are is we need to are we just is we need to understand it more. And i totally appreciate that. But is there an element where we are just not robust enough and were not encouraging young people particularly to be robust . Particularly to be robust . That is really interesting because i think about this a lot. Resilience is one of the qualities that i about, qualities that i think about, you know, passing on to my daughter. I i think daughter. Its i think i think im want im quite resilient and i want her because its really her to be because its really important getting on in her to be because its really imp but|t getting on in her to be because its really imp but i getting on in her to be because its really imp but i thinketting on in her to be because its really imp but i think what on in her to be because its really imp but i think what in in her to be because its really imp but i think what i think life. But i think what i think happens is with actually with the and that the news cycle and the way that people absorb news on social media, particularly younger people, because theyre not engaging tv news, youre engaging with tv news, youre not engaging always, know, not engaging always, you know, with watching with us, theyre watching stories through other people. So influencing balance. So influencing a balance. So influencing a balance. Theyre watching you know, theyre watching a story break an influencer story break via an influencer whos completely hammed it up or maybe done a video of them crying the issue. So crying about the issue. So feelings that feelings are contagious in that way. Hysteria is way. You know, hysteria is contagious. I dont want to do down the fears that young down the real fears that young people have all generations of young people have fears. And you can argue that this, know, can argue that this, you know, the generation coming up the next generation coming up has it harder than we did or, you you did or you know, you guys did or i mean, really the mean, thats not really the issue. Think what is issue. I think what happens is you did well. You guys did well. I lived through the cold war. I was i was a teenager through the worst of the cold war. And it was seriously terrifying from time to time. It really because you could sense that your parents were also nervous of it. Absolutely. Was , absolutely. And the world was, you know, we kept going. You know, but we kept going. We werent having we werent going. Now you know that now we got through always its the through. I always think its the most incredible miracle that we got the cold war, got through the cold war, although are although obviously things are still but nothing still dodgy, but nothing like it was then. And they used to go was then. And they used to go live to moscow every year for the red square parade and youd see these flipping great missiles being wheeled through and that was the reality of the cold war. And it was terrifying. So, yes, we i think every generation probably has its own real worries. But social media, real worries. But social media, i totally agree with you. It means youre not getting a balance of news. And also, its often its to do with i think the brexit thing is often to do with people arguing in families. It was actually that they fell out with the that loved, the the people that they loved, the most upset them. Most and that really upset them. Not sometimes not always, but sometimes that was was. I actually was what it was. And i actually think climate thing is a bit think the climate thing is a bit similar. Dont as similar. Parents dont care as much care. Theyve ruined much as you care. Theyve ruined our actually our future. And then actually its about the personal. Its all about the personal. Its not really about the political sense. The one political in that sense. The one thing is, though, thing i would say is, though, some dont some stories do get to us, dont they . Were working on they . Like when were working on them . When russia them . Actually, when russia invaded ukraine, i had a little cry. Really upset cry. I felt really, really upset about you know, about that. So, you know, different touch different Different Things touch different people, i guess. But i didnt need go therapy. Think need to go to therapy. I think it be about some it tends to be about some underlying anxiety. Something else. Yeah. No, thats an interesting point. Interesting point interesting question. Its an interesting question. When did you last have a little cw when did you last have a little cry the news . Cry at the news . Yeah. Oh. When did you last have a little cry at the news . I mean, real little cry. Decades ago id. Id be. Oh, decades ago id. Id be. Id become very hardened in this business. Odd news, man. Odd news, man. I did the morning trump one and clint. Hillary lost. Did you . I got really upset about that. Yeah yeah. That bothered me as well. That bothered me as well. Well, thats a lovely one for us to say. What about you . Last cry at the news. Last cry at the news. When did you last cry . I, i mean, really get upset about something that was happening in the news. W wi well, maybe its when they tuned this morning. Tuned in at 6 00 this morning. Could be. Oh, yes. Could be. Oh, yes. Could be. Can we have a look at. Because i love that, you know, i love my alien stories, mexico, in case you missed it, mexico have not only found aliens , have not only found aliens, theyve put them on display. Theyve put them on display. Very odd looking things anyway. So someone on on twitter has has made these aliens out of cake. Yes. So i think thats what the original aliens are meaning. There you go. There you go. There you go. Because i hadnt been following the story as closely as you have, stephen. So i had to kind of put the pieces together. But yes, so these aliens, you they aliens, as you say, they were originally presented. Aliens, as you say, they were originally jthatsted. Good. I oh, so thats very good. I mean, exactly like the mean, it looks exactly like the ones presented the ones that were presented the other. Yeah. Other week. Yeah. So, yeah, this is a british cake i think his name is cake maker. I think his name is ben for all ben cullen. Hes known for all kinds of different spectacular cake creations, but hes now very good , isnt it . And if you very good, isnt it . And if you havent seen the original aliens, good aliens, that is a very good imitation. I say aliens. I mean, imitation. I say aliens. I mean, theres a lot of scepticism as to there. To whether is there. Some of the bones are animal bones of are put bones and some of them are put in upside down to give it an auen in upside down to give it an alien look. Are they heck aliens . See what always strikes me see what always strikes me about this is that these these three, theyre three fingered. I always think if youre an auen i always think if youre an alien and youre doing all these very technical things and building ships and all the rest of it, why would you only have Three Fingers . Youre more likely youre much more likely to have think much have tentacles, i think much more mean, octopus is have tentacles, i think much mcclever mean, octopus is have tentacles, i think much mcclever and mean, octopus is have tentacles, i think much mcclever and theyve octopus is have tentacles, i think much mcclever and theyve got, us is have tentacles, i think much mcclever and theyve got, you s so clever and theyve got, you know, octopus space know, all those octopus space octopus. Theyre intelligent , but theyre super intelligent, but their completely their intelligence is completely different to ours. Their whole physiology is completely different. They would have evolved physically. Yeah, entirely. Physically. Yeah, entirely. Theyre completely theyre a completely different life different kind of strand of life and the very nice deep fried with lemon. I dont eat them any with lemon. I dont eat them any more for reason. Well, no, more for that reason. Well, no, but clever they but how clever they are. Theyre aliens . Yeah. Aliens . Yeah, well, theyre going to get their own back. One looks the vanilla sponge one looks much exciting. Much more interesting. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, obviously, m yeah, obviously, im not. Id love to see an actual alien body, but im not. See this is keir according to the mail on sunday wants to bring in 1616 year olds. Thats because of course people tend to be more left wing when theyre younger. Him. I mean, its not him. I mean, its not him. This is exactly only hes this is exactly the only hes not it for the good of not doing it for the good of youth, is he . Theres a reason why the why labour, the greens, the snp have been very behind have always been very behind this policy. Its because its like generational like a kind of generational gerrymander. We gerrymander. You think if we open then were more gerrymander. You think if we open to then were more gerrymander. You think if we open to get then were more gerrymander. You think if we open to get over were more gerrymander. You think if we open to get over the re more gerrymander. You think if we open to get over the line. Ore gerrymander. You think if we open to get over the line. And likely to get over the line. And also think its strange. Also just think its strange. You buy cigarettes you cant buy cigarettes aged 16, be 16, but youre supposed to be able i think theres able to vote. I think theres something you cant buy. Or energy exactly. All right. All right. But an unlicensed uninsured scooter and in some cases mobility scooters could go faster and on pavements madness i thats interesting, isnt it 7 thats interesting, isnt it . Weve got plenty more to come, including looking through your views and good morning. Its 7 00 on sunday, the 17th of september. Today a defiant Russell Brand performs to fans at wembley just hours of being accused of rape and Sexual Assault as media bosses face questions over their handung bosses face questions over their handling of the allegations. The comedian denies all the claims midst this litany of astonishing , rather baroque attacks are some very serious allegations that i absolutely refute it more. 20 mile an hour speed limits coming to a road near you, wales is expanding its network of slow roads and senior politicians are calling it absolutely insane. Calling it absolutely insane. The weekend could be ending with a bang for some of us as heavy thunderstorms and downpours move in. Join me later for the full weather details. For the full weather details. Got the swat heading away in just a moment with aiden. Indeed, yeah. Wales laboured to victory over portugal yesterday in the Rugby World Cup and ahead to englands and we look ahead to englands clash against japan this evening in morning to you im in nice morning to you im stephen dixon. And im anne diamond and this is breakfast on gb news. Its fascinating that this 20 mile an hour limit on on welsh roads has really got you going this morning. But on both sides of the argument, which is what i always find fact dating, sean says if you cant drive at 20 miles an houn you cant drive at 20 miles an hour, you should have failed your driving test. Think about others for a change. Thats because we were saying its quite difficult for some motorists to drive at 20. Kevin says, i live yeah, but kevin says, i live in carmarthenshire and i to travel carmarthen regularly, passing through several villages that will now be 20 miles an houn that will now be 20 miles an hour, no matter what time of day it is, you hardly see anyone walking around. People who live in Rural Communities have to drive everywhere. Yeah, i tell you what, if you go through several villages, slow your villages, theyll slow down your commute villages, theyll slow down your conit|ute villages, theyll slow down your con it will villages, theyll slow down your conit will sue in cheshire says it will sue in cheshire says all means is ill stay out all this means is ill stay out of wales and any city that inflicts this speed limit you might not able to. Might not be able to. I think its going to i mean, i think its going to be everywhere. Be spread out everywhere. Just feel as a driver it just just feel as a driver and someone who does a lot of driving and tries to drive responsibly, it just feels like its another kick. Its another kick. Its like, do the roads really need to be 20 . Does is it going to actually be if you look a lot because a lot of this people saying, you know its because drivers are you know are driving far too fast or make them drive 30 then i think thats probably very true. Brian says motorists have only themselves to blame. I live only themselves to blame. I live on a residential road in sittingbourne in kent with two schools and a hospital and it has a 30 mile an hour speed limit, but most drivers exceed it. Some are doing 50 to 60. So there you go. Theres village like that theres a village like that that through the that i drive through in the morning always morning where people have always just and theyve just sped through and theyve just sped through and theyve just put in now from the very beginning to the beginning of the village to the very speed cameras very end, average speed cameras and 30. Will that make a difference , will that make a difference, i wonder . Will that make a difference, i wioh, i . Will that make a difference, i wioh, yeah, it does totally. Oh, yeah, it does totally. Oh, yeah, it does totally. Transformed its absolutely transformed it everyone hits 30 it that now everyone hits 30 because cameras, right because theres cameras, right at the very beginning and end. You 30 as you enter the you hit 30 as you enter the village and you to stick to village and you have to stick to that you go out the other side. What about road . What do they call used to call them call it . We used to call them sleeping police. Oh the road hump yeah. What hump things. Yeah. Yeah. What about because will about those . Because that will make people down. Make people slow down. That causes yeah, but i think that causes more accidents because if you hit, those at hit, if you hit one of those at speed , theres some people will speed, theres some people will that throws the car right off. Youre better off just with the average speed cameras. Yes, theyre good because you willi yes, theyre good because you wilii actually quite like those i actually quite like those warning yeah. So warning signs. Oh, yeah. And so youre not being done. Youre not being fined, but you are being warned and sort of shamed because dont you if you ever if you. Oh, yes. You think, oh, its the car in front of me. Its not me. Ill slow down a bit. Yeah, does an bit. Yeah, it does have an effect you. Effect on you. It does. It does. It does. Thats it does. Thats the it does. Thats the way for. Anyway, keep your views coming in, because clearly this is going 20 is getting everybody going 20 mile limits are mile an hour speed limits are now was 30 in wales is now now what was 30 in wales is now going to be and are going to be 20. And they are trying out in other places in trying it out in other places in the country as well. And it probably will happen near you sooner or later. Do you see it as a good thing or another way of taxing motorist now , our of taxing the motorist now, our main news this morning and the comedian Russell Brand comedian and actor Russell Brand has been rape, sexual has been accused of rape, Sexual Assault and Emotional Abuse dunng assault and Emotional Abuse during a seven year period at the very height of his fame. Four women have alleged Sexual Assaults. Between 2006 and 2013. Whilst he was a presenter for bbc radio two and channel 4. And then of course, being an actor in hollywood movies. Others have in hollywood movies. Others have made a range of accusations about browns allegedly controlling abusive and predatory behaviour, even at work. Well, the findings come from a joint investigation by the sunday times, the times and channel four dispatches and the allegations include crew members on his big brother spin off programme , claiming that they programme, claiming that they were made to feel as though they were made to feel as though they were working as a pimp by approaching young women on his behalf and that he raped a woman in los angeles. Their interviews were voiced by actors in the channel 4 programme and you may find some of the content distressing. Of the content distressing. Hes grabbing at my underwear , pulling it to the side. Im telling him to get off me and he wont get off. Im like holding me up against the wall, pushing himself in me. He grabbed me and got me on the bed. I was fully clothed and he was naked at this point and he was naked at this point and he held me down and he was just aggressively trying to, you know, me. Well on social media, Russell Brand has denied utterly the allegations means and he says his relationship ships have always been consensual. Always been consensual. But this is what he said on twitter on friday evening amidst this litany of astonished in rather baroque attacks are some very serious allegations that i absolutely refute these allegations pertain to the time when i was working in the mainstream, when i was in the newspapers all the time, when i was in the movies. And as ive written about extensively books, i was extensively in my books, i was very, promiscuous. Now very, very promiscuous. Now dunng very, very promiscuous. Now during promiscuity, during that time of promiscuity, the that i were the relationship that i had were absolutely always consensual. I was always transparent about that, then almost too transparent and im being transparent and im being transparent about it now as well i well, emma well, lets talk to our Showbiz Reporter, Stephanie Takyi, Showbiz Reporter, Stephanie Takyi , who is here. Morning, takyi, who is here. Morning, stephanie. I mean, look, he was back out on stage last night even as all these things were being fully aired. Theres been a bit of a defiant mood. Yeah. The show must go on for Russell Brand and i think thats what hes trying to do. Hes trying to come out fighting from this most people thought that his at the thought that his gig at the troubadour theatre in wembley would been cancelled. He would have been cancelled. He actually played he performed to actually played he performed to a audience of the venue, a full audience of the venue, has a capacity of 2000 people. So clearly he still has some sort of support despite the Dispatches Programme last night i but oh yeah, its and the programme last night was interesting in that these women were telling their stories. And were telling their stories. And there were there were lots of other things alleged, but we are only hearing one side of the story here and it does it make people feel uncomfortable that this could be trial by media . Yeah, well, ive never actually seen Something Like this where youve had a newspaper and a channel 4 Investigative Programme coming together to do a sting operation on one of britains most loved comedy stars. Theyve been working on this for the past yean working on this for the past year, so theyve had time to gather evidence. Russell brand only found out about this programme eight days ago, so he has been in shock, as you can imagine. Friday was the first statement that we got for him regarding the case, but he did tell fans yesterday as if you can respect. I cannot talk about can respect. I cannot talk about this case because now the base of the allegations that have been put out there, you are thinking that this is going to head to a court of law or things are going to have to be investigated because the allegations were so damaging. Investigated because the all i|ations were so damaging. Investigated because the all i|ations he e so damaging. Investigated because the all i|ations he has damaging. Investigated because the all i|ations he has mean,ng. I mean, he has i mean, presumably been approached presumably hes been approached by the Investigative Team , which by the Investigative Team, which is why he then made his statement on x on on friday night. So in that in that night. So in that in that respect, he has had his say. He has been able to utterly deny all of this. All of this. He has had his say. But its very complicated, steve, in this case, because the women that have come forward, theyve remained anonymous. So even his team of lawyers that have come out, theyve said, we dont even know these cases because we dont accuser is. Dont know who the accuser is. Ah, so its very complicated when it comes to Russell Brand trying to defend himself. And i think that is going to his think that is going to be his next of this case, him next part of this case, him trying find out actually trying to find out actually whats said by who and when i yeah. And the defence that he has put forward already is that all of my relations were consensual. Sort of ignores consensual. So sort of ignores the fact that rape is even there in marriage. You can be married to somebody and still be raped. So even if a relationship was consensual, you can still do some of the terrible things he is alleged to have done and he sort of ignoring that. So there is an awful lot more detail. But but surely we must know now whether or not all of this dossier of evidence has been handed to the police . Well its going to have to be, because for Russell Brand, its such damaging to his name and his career that you cant have no smoke without fire. You need to have the evidence. And thats the problem with these metoo cases. Theyre quite damaging when they come out. To prove out. But you have to prove the evidence thats going to be evidence and thats going to be have the next step in this case. Okay , stephanie, thank you. Okay, stephanie, thank you. Lets get the views out of media lawyer coe, joins lawyer jonathan coe, who joins us now. Jonathan i mean, clearly, its one of those situations where theres in some respects, not a huge respects, theres not a huge amount we can say legally. But would you imagine that this evidence, if they have got all this evidence that it would be Going Forward to the police . Going forward to the police . Well, thats quite often the case. I well, thats quite often the case. I mean, ive been on both sides of this. Ive worked with good Investigative Journalism , and Investigative Journalism, and ive been on the side of a celebrity or otherwise. Thats thats come a cropper with these kind of allegations. Owens kind of allegations. Owens normally, in my experience , its normally, in my experience, its that the dossier is sent to the police and sometimes when a when a newspaper has been involved, they pass it to the police for legal reasons because what it does, it allows them to report what a Police Investigation which makes their legal position a little bit safer and stronger, if thats the sort of core of the story. The story. Yes. I mean, Russell Brand has come out very vociferously defending himself and attesting his innocence. But we have to remember who is making who made this program , um, and who is this program, um, and who is writing about it. The times, the sunday times and dispatches and their journalists and their record is very, very good, isnt it . And they will have lawyered it . And they will have lawyered it . And they will have lawyered it like crazy before that program last night, were you actually right . I cut my teeth as a young lawyer doing work for dispatches. Uh, its a very fine news program. Um, one of the best. Program. Um, one of the best. Its up there with panorama and watchdog , and certainly, i mean, watchdog, and certainly, i mean, i know the times legal team as well. Theyre very very well. Theyre very its a very good outfit to. So it will have good outfit to. So it will have been legal very carefully. The only thing i would say, anne, is been legal very carefully. The onlyis1ing i would say, anne, is been legal very carefully. The onlyis withoutyuld say, anne, is been legal very carefully. The onlyis without givingy, anne, is been legal very carefully. The onlyis without giving you1ne, is been legal very carefully. The onlyis without giving you ae, is been legal very carefully. The onlyis without giving you a law this is without giving you a law lecture, the way that the law works and the law of defamation is as long you put the is as long as you put the allegations to in this case, Russell Brand , and they are Russell Brand, and they are reasonably credible , you get a reasonably credible, you get a defence under section four of the defamation act, a Public Interest defence, which although lawyers will know about. So the lawyers will know about. So the fact that theyve done that and theyve given brand the opportunity to respond and therell be a response somewhere in the paper from brand in the in the paper from brand means that effectively hes, hes going to lose any libel action that he brings about this story. It does. Is it does it worry it does. Is it does it worry you, though, and its interesting because you say youve worked for these these sort of programs and things in the past that it is a it feels like a trial by media, which means that whatever the whatever the ultimate outcome of this someones reputation is damaged, even if there are no charges are ever brought. Ever brought. Well, youre absolutely right. And this is this is a very difficult alt key, almost constitutional question , good constitutional question, good reporting outfits like you must be allowed to make allegations, say some hard things on the other hand, if you do the modern technology being as is , its in technology being as is, its in the aether and even if those allegations are untrue and everybody can make a mistake, then its very difficult to clean that damage from your reputation. Now that ive spent reputation. Now that ive spent 30 years trying to resolve this, because ive been on both sides. But we only have to think very far back. Huw edwards kevin spacey, both were the subject of huge media assaults and both it turns out, are innocent. So these are very, very difficult questions, as to the protection of peoples reputation. On one hand and the right of free speech on another. One. I mean, clearly anyone who watched the programme last night will be very distressed to have heard those womens stories , but that again is their side of the story. The thing i found also fascinating and very interesting from a legal point of view is the sort of disguise , lasting behaviour that has been alleged when he was actually on bbc premises, when he was actually on in a channel 4 studio and that brings in their duty of care, doesnt it . Their duty of care, doesnt it . Yes, it does. And i imagine yes, it does. And i imagine therell be lots of head scratching about how to respond to that. And of course, you know, this weve learned isnt you there was jimmy savile there was rolf harris. You know , there was rolf harris. You know, there are inevitably , if youve got are inevitably, if youve got celebrities , there are risks of celebrities, there are risks of them misusing their positions of power. Im not saying for a minute that Russell Brand has done that. But as a as a good looking success, cessful male, particularly , he there is a particularly, he there is a theres a risk that that power is going to be misused and when youre a managing talent on on Television Like that, then its very difficult to monitor what is perhaps ordinary perhaps the right word fan behaviour and what goes beyond what is consensual. Consensual. Well, how do you. Ill tell you what struck me from what stephanie was saying earlier on, which i hadnt really thought of in these circumstances , but how in these circumstances, but how you meant to defend yourself against something when you dont know who is alleging these these these things. I mean, it these things. I mean, it a Police Investigation , action. We Police Investigation, action. We wouldnt be told who the victims are, but the person being accused would in this set of circumstance chances, it would seem mr brand hasnt been told who the individuals are or therefore how does he defend himself . Himself . Listen , been there, done listen, been there, done that, got the t shirt. You know, it it is very, very difficult. And having dealt with that, the kind of letter that brand found out eight days ago. So i can absolutely tell you what the letter will have looked like. And ive drafted them and received them. So he wont have been given all the details. Been given all the details. Hell be given some of the key details, but there will be more details, but there will be more detail that have come across in the programme that will actually have been told. But youre right, if he doesnt know the names of the individuals, then it makes it more difficult to defend themselves makes defend themselves and it makes it almost impossible to defend yourself trying it almost impossible to defend yo prove trying it almost impossible to defend yo prove negative. Trying it almost impossible to defend yo prove negative. Youre it almost impossible to defend yo pares negative. Youre it almost impossible to defend yo pare in negative. Youre it almost impossible to defend yo pare in the ative. Youre it almost impossible to defend yo pare in the most youre it almost impossible to defend yo pare in the most difficulte you are in the most difficult position in, in brands case. And all you can really do. I mean, hes decided to go on the front foot. Well, he obviously had the power to that because had the power to do that because hes got sufficient social Media Presence go in hard. Presence to go in hard. All these at these allegations are untrue at these allegations are untrue at the moment. These allegations are untrue at the moment. Theres probably nothing more that he can do nothing much more that he can do than to deny it. But, you know, getting some kind of forensic analysis allegations in analysis of the allegations in these circumstances is well nigh impossible. Well, okay, look, we impossible. Well, okay, look, we better leave it there. Jonathan covid, fascinating to talk to you. Thanks very much indeed. Yes. And i guess we ought to actually just remind everybody that the powerful that despite the powerful programme night and programme last night and certainly, you know, spread across all of the front pages of the newspapers, the man is innocent until proven guilty. Mhm. Yeah you, you and you know, you really do have to remember that. Right. And then if there is, if there, if it does lead to a court case, well then then the court case, well then then the Court Decides its the. Yeah. Its, you know 12 good men and true or whatever the phrase is will will decide and not the rest of us. And thats how our system and i think your point was very interesting how how do you defend yourself when this is like media frenzy . Like this media frenzy . Is there any way and he obviously decided to go on the front foot and to come out first out and do his video. And certainly when he performed last night, apparently he everybody went wild in his support, didnt they . But they were obviously already his fans. They were. You can let us know what you think about all that if you if you so choose some of you have emailed in about this morning. I dont about it this morning. I dont really think we can any of really think we can read any of them just know them out just to let you know because get very because hes just get very legally difficult. If you if legally difficult. But if you if you to express a view robin you want to express a view robin behind us well well have a read of them tell you what though got coming out though has got steam coming out of your ears. It has. Yes, it has. Yes, it has. Its these 20 mile an and its these 20 mile an hour speed limits that are coming wales on restricted coming in in wales on restricted roads. Its everything roads. Basically its everything that was 30 miles an hour becomes 20. In wales. In wales. In wales. But its interesting has got steam out of your ears. Steam coming out of your ears. But in sort both directions, steam coming out of your ears. Blyou sort both directions, steam coming out of your ears. Blyou like. Both directions, steam coming out of your ears. Blyou like. Someh directions, steam coming out of your ears. Blyou like. Some ofiirections, steam coming out of your ears. Blyou like. Some ofiirectvery if you like. Some of you very anti of you very for anti it, some of you very for it. The implementation of this move makes wales the first country to do this in the uk and it is of course intended to lead to a reduction in collisions and serious injuries. And the claim is , is that it could save the is, is that it could save the nhs in wales £92 million a year. So how did they get to that figure . Well , conservatives have well, conservatives have accused the Welsh Government of accused the Welsh Government of a war on motorists and say the plans will damage the welsh economy. Well, jack carson has all the details for you. Details for you. Its not since 1935 that theres been a change to the default speed limit on restricted roads in wales. But from today , only 3 of roads from today, only 3 of roads remain at 30 miles an hour. Based aukus following an election promise from first minister Mark Drakeford , 20 minister Mark Drakeford, 20 miles an hour is the new speed limit where it was previously 30. Means driving around an 30. It means driving around an area where theres a pavement and streetlights close together. The new restricted speed automatically applies even without a 20 miles an hour sign up. For the Welsh Government, its about improving safety with a change expected to result in 40 fewer collisions and encourage people to get around in other ways like cycling or pubuc in other ways like cycling or public transport sought after coming under fire. In first ministers questions this week , ministers questions this week, Mark Drakeford defended his government policy once the change is there and people see it operating in their areas as it operating in their areas as it has in the part of cardiff where i live for a number of years now. Years how. Years now. Alive. Shadow welsh transport minister Natasha Asghar believes the government should be investing the money spent on this change. In other areas its costing £33 million just to bnng costing £33 million just to bring into play and on top of that the welsh labour governments own stats have stated its to going cost the welsh economy between the region of 2 billion to just under £9 billion. Now we always health now we always say Health Economy , public transport, economy, public transport, infrastructure , these are such infrastructure, these are such important issues. Weve got to crumbling Health Service here in wales. But for me whats shocking disgusting is to shocking and disgusting is to see theyre willing see that theyre willing to spend a spend this much money on a vanhy spend this much money on a vanity project invest vanity project but not invest that money. When it comes to health. The scheme was piloted in eight different around eight different areas around the country finding country with analysis finding 95 of journeys were only affected by one minute. With the to change 20 miles an hour from today. To change 20 miles an hour from today. 30 of roads wales today. 30 of roads in wales will have the new lower speed. But on the streets of cardiff, the new law gets a mixed reception. Its a little bit too low because if any traffic jams or anything like that , itll be or anything like that, itll be going along as a snails pace. You know, the cars will be going even slower than they are at the moment. I live in the north of cardiff and thats already been 20 miles an hour in most of the roads in our area for quite a long time. Its made my road long time. But its made my road much safer whole and much safer in the whole and better for my children who can go out more safely in the area. The ones ive gone down, people were having trouble keeping to the 20. Do you know what i mean . I mean , lets be what i mean . I mean, lets be quite honest about a lot of people have trouble keeping to the 30. I think its a lot safer for everybody, especially children. Children. Yeah, im for it. Yeah, im for it. Its estimated the welsh will save £92 million with the change due to the less serious injuries caused at lower speed and for 12 months its expected roadside police will favour education over fines. When it comes to people breaking the new speed limit, the message today from the Welsh Government 20 is plenty. Jack carson gb news cardiff. Cardiff. Interesting. Lets talk to interesting. Lets talk to deputy welsh conservative lgbtq chair ezri clara jones, who joins us now from barry , good to joins us now from barry, good to see you this morning. Ezri whats your take on this . Whats your take on this . Yeah , so my take on this is yeah, so my take on this is that i think that theres a potential for there to be significant issues. Relate to other aspects to road safety , other aspects to road safety, for example. Um lots of people who are part of the non official sort of Emergency Services such as the rnli people who are responsible for getting into sort of the chemical works and sort of the chemical works and sort of the chemical works and sort of like the tata steel works, um, you know , if theres works, um, you know, if theres any major disasters or anything , can they need to get there quickly . Um, you know, theyre quickly . Um, you know, theyre not going to be able to travel at at the speed they used at the, at the speed they used to, to be able to get there dunng to, to be able to get there during the response times. So with the rnli, for example , with the rnli, for example, theyve got to be within ten minutes of the station. An as far as driving is concerned. And my concern is that were going to end up with a situation that theyre not going to be able to get to the station enough. Get to the station quick enough. But surely Blue Light Services they call them, will services as they call them, will be able to get through any sort of speed limit, wouldnt they, if they were answering an emergency . Emergency . But the but but the rnli there are volunteer force. Most of the cars and trucks that they use arent blue lights. In fact , the only blue lighted vehicles theyre allowed are the ones that actually go in and out of the water. Youre talking about people with ordinary civilian vehicles and who are whove got to get to the stations quickly. To get to the stations quickly. And so i am concerned about response times in that sort of in that sort of area, because were talking about public safety. But if people cant get safety. But if people cant get to the station quick enough, then theyre not going to get in then theyre not going to get in the water quicker. If to rescue people, how do you tackle the argument then that says in terms of safety , i mean, clearly the of safety, i mean, clearly the Welsh Government thinks this is going to improve safety enough to save £92 million for the nhs. Yeah no, i totally understand that. And if and if we lived in an ideal world, id say, yeah, this might be a good idea, but i would be more, id be more kind of concerned about why were not doing like the australian system of booze and drug cruises where they literally stop large amounts of vehicles en masse because youve just got to go around any street in britain and it is and is cannabis smells coming straight out of the cars. So people are routinely drug driving and it doesnt seem to be any concerted effort to stamp that out. And ive got to wonder how many accidents are related to people being effectively off their head while driving. So you clearly think there are other ways to tackle the issue of dangerous driving or driving too fast and not the 20 mile an hour limit . What are your what are your sort of constituents saying to you . Do they feel the same way . You . Do they feel the same way . Um, i feel like at the moment were in this situation where people are very angry, especially because as they feel like theyve already had a lot of their rights taken away from them due to whats happened with covid, due to whats happened with everything to do with, um, basically were always told what to do as opposed to being given the freedom of choice. And yes, if driver drivers and everybody else around needs to be given a bit of a break, but at the same time, we cant have a situation where where people are are restricted all the time because eventually people are going to get very, very angry and that can only lead to more harm and more problems in society. Yeah, well, look, i think thats a valid point. Esri, clara jones, good to see you this morning. Thank you very much. I do. Thank you much indeed. I do. Thank you very much. Do think there a very much. I do think there is a valid point to that, whether whether drivers feel clobbered again. Yeah. And we do that idea that people just feel like they are being too controlled, that youre not allowed to apply common sense. I mean , yes, you common sense. I mean, yes, you dont want accidents. You dont want to of want anyone to be hurt. Of course you dont. And drivers need to behave in response need to behave in a response able manner. Course they do. Able manner. Of course they do. Doesit able manner. Of course they do. Does it all need to be legislated for now . I know some of you think yes, but there is a point where there is a backlash, isnt and just isnt there . And people just go, ive of all this ive had enough of all this control. I dont know. Ijust think its something that needs to be borne in mind. And i know what you mean. Except you cant help thinking , except you cant help thinking, is it really that awful to be slowed down to 20 when previously it was it was 30 . Thats not much of a difference , is it . Well, i dont know. Well, i dont know. And on the on these some sort of on these motoring speed awareness courses. Awareness couises. Awareness courses. Yes they do that figure of you know if you if you hit a child at 30 miles an hour youd cause death. If you hit them at cause death. If you hit them at 20, its very, very different. They through thing they take you through that thing. Done. Ive never actually done a speed awareness course, but apparently thats huge part of. Well, its a bit of it. Well, its a bit of it. Well, its a bit of it. Well, all right. Its a bit of it you have then. Oh, ive done. Oh, ive done. Yes, ive done a couple. Ive got to i done i have got to say i have done i have done two. And most people say its a good experience. No, really, no , 0, good experience. No, really, no , no, no. Dont believe it. What did you feel . Relieved and totally patronised . And its all these people you get. I mean, the guy who did the last me, it was quite a last one for me, it was quite a number ago, but he was last one for me, it was quite a n|lorryr ago, but he was last one for me, it was quite a n|lorry driver ago, but he was last one for me, it was quite a n|lorry driver andigo, but he was last one for me, it was quite a n|lorry driver and he but he was last one for me, it was quite a n|lorry driver and he and he was last one for me, it was quite a n|lorry driver and he and theyas a lorry driver and he and they come in like they know it all. They know it all. Theyll tell you what to do. Thats not what id heard at all. No. Total patronising waste of time, frankly. Of time, frankly. Oh, if youve been on a speed awareness course, do you agree with stephen moore, or did you get something from it that you didnt expect . Id love to hear your views. Yeah. Vaiews gbnews. Gb news coming up for you, the education secretary warning young people not to ruin their life chances by joining eco activist groups. But isnt protesting par for the course for students . And young people will debate that in just a bit here on breakfast b reakfa st 735. Breakfast 735. And whether youre watching us on tv, online, or listening to us on gb news radio, very good morning to you. This is breakfast with stephen and anne. Now, gillian keegan, who is the education minister, am i right . Education secretary she is indeed, yes. Secretary, yeah. She says that students risk ruining their life chances is if they take part when theyre students, for instance, in something to get very upset about and worked up about and passionate about like Just Stop Oil, for instance, this comes after the daily mail disclosed that, for instance, Just Stop Oils plan to infiltrate freshers week and build up an army of impressionable undergraduates. Okay well, the education secretary is wanting University Bosses to warn students of the consequences in engaging in criminal activity. What that could mean for their futures. So, in other words , something so, in other words, something you might do when youre a passionate young student might rise up and bite you in the bum later on in your career when you maybe want to be taking more seriously in any particular pursuit. Pursuit. Mhm. Mhm. Lets talk to journalist juue lets talk to journalist julie cooke and social political commentator Bushra Sheikh who join us now. Good to see you this morning, bushra. Whats your take on this . Should students be coddled by what may happen to them in the future or should they live for the moment . 7 oh, 7 oh, certainly. I . Oh, certainly. I think its really important to advise students on what their future looks like. We know that were just oil. Theyre not about always peaceful, peaceful protesting. They are a nuisance. Protesting. They are a nuisance. They they stop people in their tracks. They stop the majority of the british workers getting to regular places and jobs to the regular places and jobs that to get to, people that they need to get to, people getting to hospitals is its very dangerous well. So very dangerous as well. So i think very, very think this is very, very important for University Campuses to say that, look, you can be part of organised actions, but this particular one, are hell bent on one, they are hell bent on destroying regular daily lives in britain. So its not just in britain. So its not just them joining a campaign and thinking that theyre doing something good. Just stop oil need to be stopped a little bit. This is a nuisance. And you know, we have admit that. Know, we have to admit that. Julie, do you agree . So, julie, do you agree . I mean, students should be seriously could seriously warned that this could ruin life chances later . Ruin their life chances later . I think its important that theyre warned because obviously what Just Stop Oil does, unfortunately , often results in unfortunately, often results in criminal damage of property and stopping, you know, ambulances getting to places on the street that were recently some some deaths, i believe, because of ambulances stopped getting through. Um, but i do think through. Um, but i do think students have a right to protest. I think its dangerous if we start telling people that they cant protest things. And cant protest about things. And i do agree that just appalling particular often can lead to sort of more criminal activities, you like. And activities, if you like. And theyre encouraging people to learn how arrested in learn how to be arrested in a peaceful way. But i think if we start to take away our rights to protest , then that protest, then that is a dangerous, slippery slope. Yeah, but that in some respects just doesnt work, julie, does it . Because you cant say, well, you absolutely have right to you absolutely have a right to protest, them. Protest, but not with them. Yeah, i think in particular they are known for their particular tactics arent they. Theyre known for, for sort of criminal damage, you know, throwing things on a van gogh painting and standing in the way of the road. And that is of the road. And that is obviously leading to inconvenience for the general public. But i think if we are telling young people , well, who telling young people, well, who at that time of life, lets face it, we were all passionate about something , werent we . I mean, something, werent we . I mean, whether back in my day, i whether its back in my day, i think it trying to rid think it was trying to get rid of conservatives and the of the conservatives and get the labour in. But that all went a bit wrong. But the point is we all have something protest bit wrong. But the point is we all haassomething protest bit wrong. But the point is we all haassometr people rotest about as young people and i think need to allow people to think we need to allow people to protest. Their right, protest. That is their right, particularly when youre young and kind of and passionate and you kind of need cause. Need a cause. Yeah. Bushra, isnt that true . You do. Do look for a cause when you do look for a cause when youre young and passionate about things. And isnt it about these things. And isnt it wrong that we should should legislate against that . Or is it even advise against it . We should actually be more grown up now and say, okay, everybody is young, youre young once or twice, maybe you can be forgiven for maybe some of your choices earlier on. Not at all. I think were kind of heading to dangerous territory with just oil because peaceful protesting is one thing. But then actually, you know, getting in the way of , you know, getting in the way of, you know, getting in the way of, you know, like you said, for it to become criminal activity is what the key part is here. These are offences is that not only you know can destroy potentially their future for you know this is also about the peace and harmony of our community. You know, Just Stop Oil are for me this is more about branding. This is more about branding. Look, young people know that protesting is their right. We know this is something that we all know the problem with. Just stop oil is that, like you said, its the tactics that they use. But i think it is important for campuses to be aware of the difference and amongst young people, they do speak. My worry is that these things become a trend. And the young , trend. And the young, impressionable ones will be lured on and employed by them to do their their work for them and telling them that, you know , telling them that, you know, jackson bush. Right. I mean, look, you make a very understandable argument. The only thing that struck me then is you say you basically dont do anything which is criminal and dont do anything which is going to be a real nuisance to society. And i just thought suffragettes. Thought suffragettes. Oh, yes. I mean, look , at the oh, yes. I mean, look, at the end of the day, we know that there are campaigns for us that are incredibly important. But we still have to outline those boundanes still have to outline those boundaries within those protests. And even if you do talk about suffrage yet, if that was to happen today and even if we use just oil as an example, there is boundanes just oil as an example, there is boundaries within protesting. So boundaries within protesting. So its important that young people know that because it can impact their future. And i know that because it can impact theirfuture. And i get know that because it can impact their future. And i get that this is a right for us and a right for young people to stand by what they really believe in. But believe me, when it costs you a job or your future or you have a criminal record, they would wish that they didnt do that. Well, thatd be so very good point. I hate to say it, ladies, were going to have to leave it there. But julie, thank you very much indeed. Your thoughts on that would be very welcome this morning. That would be very welcome this mornircourse, in the time the of course, in the time of the suffragettes, have suffragettes, we didnt all have mobile phones that took pictures of compromising positions. Of us in compromising positions. No, know, visited no, but, you know, they visited upon media. Mean, no, but, you know, they visited upotrouble media. Mean, no, but, you know, they visited upotrouble is media. Mean, no, but, you know, they visited upotrouble is theyre dia. Mean, the trouble is theyre protesters celebrated how. Now. I mean, quite rightly so. I mean, quite rightly so. I mean, quite rightly so. Right. Right. But, you know, youve got to you youve got to have you cant youve got to have a wider view, i think. But also, those women who are suffragettes they suffragettes knew that they werent impede their suffragettes knew that they werercareers impede their suffragettes knew that they werercareers becauseede their suffragettes knew that they werercareers because they1eir later careers because they didnt have careers to look forward to. No, true. Thats a no, thats true. Thats a valid anyway, let know valid point. Anyway, let us know what morning. What you think this morning. Vaiews gbnews. Com. Lets get a round up of the this round up of the sport this morning. Wales in action last night second time night for the second time against mighty portugal and against the mighty portugal and mighty rugby terms mighty portugal. In rugby terms. I mean, im a bit bit. I mean, im being a bit bit flippant not flippant there. Theyre not stellar. Nation , but wales stellar. Rugby nation, but wales overcame them 28 eight. Their coach gatland saying coach Warren Gatland saying afterwards wasnt afterwards and he knew it wasnt afterwards and he knew it wasnt a vintage performance he a vintage performance but he said and what said job done. And you know what in sport , whether in tournament sport, whether were about football, were talking about football, whether were talking about tennis, go and win whether were talking about ten|thing go and win whether were talking about ten|thing at go and win whether were talking about ten|thing at a go and win whether were talking about ten|thing at a canter, and win whether were talking about ten|thing at a canter, no d win whether were talking about ten|thing at a canter, no one n the thing at a canter, no one really remembers what happens in the group stage. They care even less. About getting through less. Its about getting through wales, looking reasonable wales, looking in reasonable shape. Theyve got shape. At the moment theyve got four they four tries, which means they get a bonus as well. A bonus, a bonus point as well. Ireland as well, 59 six. They won against tonga , rattled in won against tonga, rattled in loads loads of tries. Again loads and loads of tries. Again looking in in keeping looking imperious in in keeping with their billing as the world number one side theyve been world number one before. Theyve been into been fancied going into tournaments theyve tournaments ireland but theyve always short in the always come up short in the final analysis, theyre a little bit the blacks were new bit like the all blacks were new zealand about 20 odd years. Zealand for about 20 odd years. And probably as and probably lastly france as well. Two two well. Those two those two nations, france and ireland, certainly got something prove certainly got something to prove in and if we look in the world cup. And if we look at england this evening against japan. Exactly. And thats a tough i think it could tough game. I think it could have tougher. Was it have been tougher. It was if it was was maybe for eight was if it was maybe for eight years ago, perhaps, but never woii. Won. Have they, against england . Have they, against england . No, havent. They no, they havent. They havent. Have posed havent. But they have posed problems before, particularly when charge. Problems before, particularly whei now charge. Problems before, particularly wheinow whats charge. Problems before, particularly wheinow whats interesting arge. Problems before, particularly wheinow whats interesting isge. And now whats interesting is that anthony and now whats interesting is that who anthony and now whats interesting is that who is anthony and now whats interesting is that who is out anthony and now whats interesting is that who is out of nthony and now whats interesting is that who is out of theyny watson, who is out of the tournament injury , has tournament through injury, has been mouthing off. Wouldnt tournament through injury, has bee mouthingg off. Wouldnt tournament through injury, has bee mouthingg ofthatlednt say mouthing off. Thats probably a bit too harsh, actually. Been actually. But hes now been saying back of that saying on the back of that result last week that england are go and it. So are going to go and win it. So and if i wonder if his and i wonder if i wonder if his team mates to be team mates are going to be thinking into thinking that going into tonight. Theyre loading pressure on from the pressure on him from outside the squad. Aiden, weve got to leave no. Aiden, weve got to leave it well little bit it there. Well see a little bit later absolutely. Later on. Absolutely. You. Later on. Absolutely. And you. Later on. Absolutely. And coming up, headline makers. 748. Good morning to you this is breakfast with Stephen Allen on your and of course, on gb news radio. Radio. So yes, with us now were looking through the papers talking about all the stories that are catching your eye. Editor spike, tom slater and editor of spike, tom slater and author and broadcaster nicky hodgson. Thanks for coming back. Right, tom, on this story, which is really worrying, i think. But its interesting why we would be worried by it about so many Primary Schools in this country now have no male teachers. Teachers. Yes. So these are the latest department of education figures. So theres about 16,000 Primary Schools in england and theres about 3000 of them which have no male teachers at all. This story is focussed very much on the question of kind male role question of kind of male role models for Young Children in particular. And naturally any story like this also leads back to andrew tate. Why not . And this kind of concern that again, with the absence role with the absence of male role models, that be models, that could be a particular problem. I have to say, think that primary say, i dont think that Primary School main say, i dont think that primary scho now who have no male in their lives. Lives. You. No. You. No. And its one of obviously we all know this anecdotally from our Primary School our own lives at Primary School education in particular has always predominantly female always been predominantly female. Guess question is, and. I guess the question is, and im sure i about im not sure how i feel about this, much of that is a this, how much of that is a problem . Also , are we kind problem . And also, are we kind of relying on schools to sort out, suggest, issues out, as you suggest, issues elsewhere in society where if there is a lack of male role models, does it really come down to primary to sort to the Primary School to sort that . But its a balance. Were primary two there were two primary two male teachers my primary male teachers in my Primary School , but i also thought it school, but i also thought it was quite a positive thing, really, particularly harry barron. Morning, mr barron. Um, barron. Morning, mr barron. Um, but it was it was sort of important to have that balance. Important to have that balance. Yes, i think its really important. All my family have important. All my family have been teachers. At some point , so been teachers. At some point, so i sort of do know how the system works. I mean, i hear what toms saying, but i actually think it is very important to have male teachers because teachers in schools because school place you spend school is the place you spend most as most of your time. Actually, as a child. And yes, your a small child. And yes, your parents are your first influence, but your teacher is definitely your second. And theres i mean, again, theres so much i mean, again, tom, dont tom, you say as well, you dont think misogyny a problem for think misogyny is a problem for primary but Primary School kids, but actually of people would actually lots of people would say that say different people that go into are by how, into schools are alarmed by how, you know, children as young as eight, nine are sort of talking about explicit things, watching explicit content. Its really disturbing, actually, at the age at which theyre starting to engage that material. At which theyre starting to engl ge that material. At which theyre starting to engl do that material. At which theyre starting to engl do worry, iat material. At which theyre starting to engl do worry, though, rial. At which theyre starting to engl do worry, though, that the i do worry, though, that the answer to every kind of social problem concerned problem where kids are concerned is to do this. Is the school has to do this. The education. I your point on that. And especially with a lot of these questions around influencers, around explicit content, around kids being exposed just exposed to things which are just age if nothing. Age inappropriate if nothing. Isnt about well, this isnt about teachers to teachers actually having to necessarily do anything other than you know than just be there, you know what mean . What i mean . So its a slightly different story, i guess general, so its a slightly different storjust i guess general, so its a slightly different storjust alwaysss general, so its a slightly different storjust always thinkjeneral, im just always think that theres broader with theres a broader problem with if kids if were worried about kids accessing content, they accessing that content, they shouldnt have smartphones. But its not no, no, i agree. But its not just even the access of the content. Conversations they its the conversations they have. Information they have. Its the information they get children, get from older children, isnt it youre choosing as get from older children, isnt itwas, youre choosing as get from older children, isnt itwas, iyure choosing as get from older children, isnt itwas, i was choosing as get from older children, isnt itwas, i was the osing as get from older children, isnt itwas, i was the mother as get from older children, isnt itwas, i was the mother of as i was, i was the mother of four boys so there was no male boys and so there was no male around in the house. I mean, their father was around occasionally, but only they i deliberately, when i went to look at Primary Schools, i deliberately looked at whether there teachers there there were male teachers there who was going to take them for football, that. Who was going to take them for fooweve that. Who was going to take them for fooweve lost that. Who was going to take them for fooweve lost your that. Who was going to take them for fooweve lost your mict. Who was going to take them for fooweve lost your mic and ive weve lost your mic and ive still got it. Handy. Still got it. Ibatterys gone. Well, apparently hes about to overtake elvis as the star with the longest vegas residency. Hes been there 14 years with his show. The hits come home. He says hes not retiring because hes got a broadway show that hes going to launch. Apparently um, yeah, hes had a 50 year career still going strong. I mean, we got to be really honest. Me and tom actually wondered if he was dead when we first have to talk about this, i pleasantly surprised this, i was pleasantly surprised to find out. Still kicking. Barry was still kicking. Yeah. Yeah. Didnt even know he was we didnt even know if he was alive. He is. He is. Hes one of he is. Because hes one of those people. And of worse than that in a way. And look now. Stars. Look at them now. Mega stars. You know , absolutely. But, you know, theyve their time learning theyve done their time learning their craft, havent they . And we also trying to remember we were also trying to remember Barry Manilow songs as he is from. From copacabana. Copacabana. Copacabana. Obviously, hes one of the most prolific. Yeah but those are magic. But those are the he but those are the ones he sang. Hes written songs for some of the biggest stars was ever interesting. He wrote songs for bette for barbra streisand, bette midler hes one midler and everything. Hes one of the most prolific singer songwriters , she songwriters, as she said. I thought id say that now ive got my battery back. Robbie gibb , robin gibb well, robbie gibb, robin gibb did that. He was a huge writer for other people. Other people. Yeah, a lot of people didnt know that. Though, isnt it . Know, though, isnt it . Know, though, isnt it . Not the performance. Yeah, yeah. So we bring you all the twists and turns in that and Everything Else accused of rape and Sexual Assault as media bosses now face questions over their handling of the allegations. The comedian denies the claims. Amidst this litany of astonishing, rather baroque attacks are some very serious allegations that i absolutely refute. Refute. More 20 mile an hour speed limits are coming to a road perhaps near you. Wales is perhaps near you. Wales is expanding its network of slow roads. Senior politicians, roads. Senior politicians, though, are labelling that absolutely insane. Absolutely insane. On the weekend could be ending with a bang for some of us as heavy thunderstorms and downpours move in. Now going to be 20. Could it spread across the rest of the country . Its the rest of the country . Its got its a both sides of the argument, which i think is brilliant. It doesnt leave us brilliant. It doesnt leave us any clearer as to what anybody wants, but i love this from dave. Hi, dave. He says its an absolute what next do absolute madness. What next do you have to have somebody walking in front of the car with a red flag, which is what used to happen when cars were first invented. Oh, you remember that . To happen when cars were first invyou . Oh, you remember that . To happen when cars were first invyou . Well, you remember that . To happen when cars were first invyou . Well, ive remember that . To happen when cars were first invyou . Well, ive read mber that . To happen when cars were first invyou . Well, ive read about hat . To happen when cars were first invyou . Well, ive read about it|t . Do you . Well, ive read about it in the olden days. Christians , as i would christians, as i would imagine, its probably more dangerous youre going dangerous because youre going to the speedometer to be looking at the speedometer all the time rather than keeping your the road. Your eyes on the road. And is part of the and this is part of the issue. Battery issue. Frank says battery assisted get up to 40 assisted bikes and get up to 40 miles an hour and they dont have any number plates or insurance. You need a licence or you dont need a licence or licence. No and actually makes the car the slowest option. Will do because even well, it will do because even ordinary will go past ordinary pushbikes will go past you faster than 20. Yeah, they will. Yeah, they. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. What made you cry at the news last time . What was the last time you actually cried when you heard the news . As a lot of people have said, when the queen died and i get that. Yes. Yeah. Quite loads of you getting in touch with that. Susan. Jane, naomi. Susan. Jane, naomi. Naomi says i may shed a tear if breaking news includes labour winning election. Winning the next election. Itll be other oh, well, itll be other people cheering now its the way it works. Yeah. And says invasion. Yeah. And says the invasion. Afghanistan afghanistan, yeah. And says the invasion. Afghanistan afghanistan , iran afghanistan of afghanistan, iran and threat of nuclear war. And the threat of nuclear war. And val says the absolutely. And val says the thing that made me cry at the news was the most anyway , was news was the most anyway, was 911. Was ironing and 911. I was ironing and a newsflash started and i was so hoping it wasnt true. I was hoping it wasnt true. I was hoping i was dreaming. And i wept at all those people losing their lives. I suppose we all their lives. I suppose we all remember where we were when we heard about 9 11, didnt we . Yeah cry. Yeah i didnt cry. Remember. Do remember i remember. I do remember sitting in in sort of sitting there in in sort of utter disbelief, really. It was that sort of i had a real sense of a sense of impending doom. When all that happened, i cried. Now, when if i watch a documentary about it, yeah, because when you when you hear those you from the those voices, you know, from the tower and the air and the people on the phones and stuff like that, why is it that women cry more men . I dont know, more than men . I dont know, because its not that i dont cry. I do have my moments of crying normally of normally in sort of i sort of get a bit teary if im sort of very happy or emotional that way. Sort of tears of joy or there must be something know about must be the female brain or something. I mean, its not that were necessarily softer. One mental mentor , right . I wondered where you were calling into dispute. No no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. But but but there must be something sort of, i dont know, physiological. Its sort of, i dont know, physiological. Its happening inside the brain. That means inside the brain. That means that maybe women cry more. Do you think thats true . That or is it just our perception . No no crime or cry very much. I think it might be healthier if we did cry a bit more. Yes. Well, thats what they say. Well, thats what they say. But no, im not a big crier. Happy moments. Yeah. Shed happy moments. Yeah. I shed a tear i got married. Tear when i got married. Did you . Yeah. Oh, did you . Oh. Oh yeah. Oh, youre old softie, though. Youre an old softie, though. Im softie. Seen you get im a softie. Ive seen you get a glowy at things that we. A bit glowy at things that we. We about if they are. Oh, we talk about if they are. Oh, yeah. That. But ill say yeah. Like that. But ill say emotional about armistice. Yes, it is about. Yes, it is about. Yeah. Yeah. No. Yeah. No. Yeah. Yeah. No. Yeah. So yeah. No. Yeah. So as yeah. No. Yeah. So as i yeah. No. Yeah. So as i do get have got a bit dewy eyed get i have got a bit dewy eyed in here the invictus games. Oh brilliant. Its been one i think. I mean inspirational. Brilliant stuff. I think its a shame that its tainted slightly by all the hoo ha around harry. I think it does, but i dont think thats harrys fault. Actually. I think its the medias fault on that yeah. Medias fault on that one. Yeah. Every time can throw every time they can throw a grenade at him, they do. Well, thats true. I think the invictus but i do think the invictus games, it does and what it games, what it does and what it stands for brilliant. Have looked at the series have you looked at the series on. No, its very, very good. Its quite hard to take because the stories are so strong. One the stories are so strong. One of our team, one of team gb, i dont know how well hes done this time, but hes lost one arm and both legs and hes a champion swimmer. Isnt that astonishing . Absolute amazing how remarkable people. Well, how remarkable people. Well, honestly, i recommend i recommend the netflix series. Recommend the netflix series. I cant i tell you, what i cant do is watch real stuff like that. When i put the tv on. Its escapism for me. Yes, i think im the same. Yes, i think im the same. Yeah. Spaceships and yes. Yeah. Spaceships and yes. You like doctor who . You like doctor who . Doctor who. Yeah. And crime dramas, all that stuff. I like that escapism for me with the telly. Are you a friends fan or a frasier fan . Oh, i used to be a frasier fan . Oh, i used to be a frasier fan. The new series comes out in october. Yes, but its got Nicholas Lyndhurst in it, which puts me up brought out. Theyve just brought out the trailer for it. Oh, have they . Oh, have they . And frederick, and yes. And frederick, his son, is now grown up and quite interesting character. Son, is now grown up and quite interesting character. And frasier looks actually almost the same. Kelsey grammer looks almost the same. He sings the theme tune now. He sings the theme tune now. He sings the theme tune now. He does . Yeah. He does . Yeah. She do the original. We did towards the end of the original, did he . Oh but yes, hes hes recorded it slightly different. Anyway, well talk we can that a later can talk about that a bit later on when anticipate seeing the on when we anticipate seeing the return a frasier. Return of a frasier. A huge hit. A huge hit. It will. A huge hit. Yeah. Will. A huge hit. Yeah. Anyway lets move on to our top story, which is still surrounding someone very much in the media. Its the comedian and actor russell who has actor Russell Brand, who has been accused of rape, Sexual Assault and Emotional Abuse over assault and Emotional Abuse over a seven year period right at the height of his fame. Yeah, for women have alleged Sexual Assaults. Between 2006 and 2013. Assaults. Between 2006 and 2013. Mean whilst he was a presenter for bbc radio two and channel 4 and then of course he was an actor in hollywood movies at the same time. And others have made a range of accusations about controlling allegedly about his controlling allegedly abusive and predatory behaviour. Well, the findings come from a joint investigation. Its the sunday times, the times and channel 4 dispatches and the allegations include crew members on the big brother spin off programme that he worked on, claiming they were made to feel as though they were pimps by approaching young women on his behalf. Also claims that he behalf. Also claims that he raped a young woman in los angeles. Now, on the programme, their interviews were voiced by actors and you may find some of the content theyre talking about pretty distressing. About pretty distressing. Hes grabbing at my underwear, pulling it to the side. Side. Im telling him to get off me and he wont get off like holding me up against the wall, pushing himself in me. He grabbed me and got me on the bed. I was fully clothed and he was naked at this point. And he was naked at this point. And he held me down and he was just aggressively trying to, you know , me. , me. I was like, oh my god, he raped me. Raped me. He forced his penis down my throat and i couldnt breathe. I was just choking me. I was crying. And he said , oh, i only crying. And he said, oh, i only wanted to see your mascara run. Anyway i faux pas and some nobody asked what it was regarding and i said, thats regarding and i said, thats regarding Russell Brand being a sex offender. Sex offender. Well, on social media, he has denied utterly denied the allegations and says that his relationships have all been consensual. This is what he said on twitter on friday evening amidst this litany of astonishing, rather baroque attacks are some very serious allegations that i absolute refute these allegations pertain to the time when i was working in the mainstream, when i was in the newspapers all the time, when i was in the movies. And as ive written about extensively in my books, i was very, very promiscuous. Now, dunng very, very promiscuous. Now, during promiscuity, during that time of promiscuity, the had were the relationships i had were absolute, consensual. Absolute, always consensual. I was always transparent about that. Almost too that. Then almost too transparent. Im being transparent. And im being transparent. And im being transparent about it now as well i well, earlier we spoke to the media lawyer, jonathan code, and asked him how mr brand could defend himself when at this stage he doesnt know who has made the allegations against him. It is very, very difficult. It is very, very difficult. And having dealt with that, the kind of letter. So brand found out eight days ago. So i can absolutely tell you what the letter will have looked like. And ive drafted them and received them so he wont have been given all the details. Been given all the details. Hell be given some of the key details , but there will be more details, but there will be more details, but there will be more detail that have come across in the programme. They will actually have been told, but youre if he doesnt know youre right, if he doesnt know the names of the individuals, then makes more difficult then it makes it more difficult to themselves and it to defend themselves and it makes it almost impossible to defend yourself because youre trying negative. Trying to prove a negative. So you in the most difficult you are in the most difficult position in, in brands case. And all you can really do. I mean, hes decided to go on the front foot. Well, he obviously had the power to do that because hes got sufficient social Media Presence to go in hard. All these allegations are untrue. So at theres probably at the moment, theres probably nothing can nothing much more that he can do than deny it. But, you know, than to deny it. But, you know, getting some kind of forensic analysis of the allegations in these circumstances is well nigh impossible. These circumstances is well nigh impossible. Ill these circumstances is well nigh impossible. Ill okay, lets impossible. Ill okay, lets talk to our Showbiz Reporter , talk to our Showbiz Reporter, Stephanie Takyi. I mean, look, this is this is very serious stuff that hes denying here. He has to deny these allegations because these are very career ending allegations. You know, he hes defiantly said that all these situations were consensual. But when you watch consensual. But when you watch last nights documentary, it tips over into an out of consensual with, you know, accusations of rape, of grooming , of assault. So these are high definitions where you think to yourself, how does Russell Brand come out of this unscathed . And come out of this unscathed . And in typical cancel culture fashion, hes already been dropped by his Talent Agency , dropped by his Talent Agency, tavistock woods. Theyve removed him from his website. So theres been this quick Swift Movement thats the trouble, isnt it . Yeah. And i think thats what the danger is about. It. Well, people might call it trial by media. Well, yes, in that in that hes been exposed, utterly exposed to these allegations in all the newspapers on channel 4 in the times and sunday times. And even though he has chosen to sort of defend himself on video, nevertheless , he has been video, nevertheless, he has been thus exposed. And theres very thus exposed. And theres very little, as you say, its potentially career ending. I dont know what stephen was asking jonathan cohen, what do you do to try and defend yourself against this barrage . You know, its whats kind of hard is that i feel like its been Russell Brand for years, have spoken about his addictions to sex, to, drugs and drink. And its almost when these allegations have come out, its almost fallen on deaf ears because Russell Brand said, ive been telling you, this is who ive been for years. So even though it feels like were only getting one side the story of getting one side of the story of these women , actually, theyre these women, actually, theyre now responding to now coming up and responding to all the stuff that russell has said that hes done i but this 5mm km but this is this very difficult situation you find yourself in. And whereas, obviously, if people are making complaints its cannot be complaints, its they cannot be ignored. And they you have to ignored. And they you have to take these things seriously. Thats quite right that you do so. But what what hasnt happened here is any Police Investigation. Not yet. Stephen i can imagine for the police now , its imagine for the police now, its like with the newspaper and with channel 4, theyve gathered their evidence and now they could potentially present it to the must have the police. Police must have been yesterday. Do been watching yesterday. So i do feel like an investigation will start in the next few days, especially for the victim who was 16 years old, a 16 year old, when she met russell when he was 31. She says, why am i talking about it now . She says she doesnt feel its okay. She feels like this country has a bit of blind eye to when you bit of a blind eye to when you think someones 16 and its legal, she feels shes legal, she feels like shes being groomed man in her being groomed by a man in her who was 30s at the time. Who was in his 30s at the time. And thats not okay. And yes , and 16 is the age of and yes, and 16 is the age of consent in this country. And yes, and 16 is the age of consent in this country. And consent in this country. And were going into too much detail, i guess. And thats the dangen detail, i guess. And thats the danger, too. But the fact that his own publicity people have dropped him , its just so dropped him, its just so dangerous when nothings been proven. You know, and ive seen this before, you know, this year, even with noel clarke, hes a film director, the guardian done a sting where they had 20 women who they said had, you know, he had either assaulted them, either raped them when it came to actually proving the evidence , they didnt have no evidence. And now hes suing the newspaper for £10 million. So, you know , for £10 million. So, you know, with this drama, i can imagine weve all been gripped watching it. But when it comes down, if it. But when it comes down, if it does become an investigation, these women are going to have to provide evidence. But as we saw yesterday, some of them do have strong cases. The woman who said that russell raped her the next day, she went to a rape centre crisis. Yes, thats shes got messages from him where she said when a woman says no , it means when a woman says no, it means no. A woman can be raped. Well, anyone can be raped inside a marriage just because youre married to doesnt mean married to them doesnt mean that goes. Yes, that anything goes. Yes, exactly. Its about saying no and having the freedom to say drop dropped by his Talent Agency, but still performing. Agency, but still performing. On stage last night. He was on stage last night. He was on stage last night. He was on stage last night. He performed to a 2000 strong gig at wembley park at the troubadour theatre. He Russell Brand a following of over 25 brand has a following of over 25 Million People on his social media channels. And, you know, whether people support him or not, its each for their own to decide. But i think this has happened so quickly. I thought happened so quickly. I thought he would have actually backed away from doing. Is he rich . Is he rich . , he is. Hes had yes, he is. Hes hes had a very lucrative career both in hollywood over here. There was a time when he was the man that you would go to for comedy gigs and for presentation. Hes i was thinking i was thinking the thinking i was thinking over the last so hours, he must last 36 or so hours, he must have been consulting lawyers like mad. Have been consulting lawyers likesurely. But they still didnt surely. But they still didnt manage to injunct the program. No. Or the newspaper. Well, i think Russell Brand has had very anti has had this very anti Mainstream Media rhetoric over the last few years. So i think even though he will be quite upset about these allegations, he definitely sees it as a coordinated attack on him. He feels its more because of him and his views , the reason why and his views, the reason why hes been silenced with these allegations. So i think hes actually seen it as him against the Mainstream Media. Is more bigger than the allegations to him and his fans. Okay , stephanie, for now, okay, stephanie, for now, thank you very much indeed. Well , now lets move on to thank you very much indeed. Well, now lets move on to a subject thats got everybody hot under the collar this morning. And that speed limits the idea of everything. Thats a 30 mile an hour speed limit is going to be reduced to 20 across wales. And that starts today. Its a be reduced to 20 across wales. And that starts today. Its a uk first thats causing a lot of controversy. Controversy. Yeah, but with some people , yeah, but with some people, some people are liking it. Ive got to say, getting in touch this morning. Some of you like it. A lot of you dont. Weve seen cities like london bringing a lot of 20 mile an hour speed limits, course. Wales is limits, of course. But wales is the country to do the first entire country to do so in the uk. Its intended to lead to a reduction in road collisions and serious injuries. And the claim is that it could save the welsh nhs £92 million a yeah welsh conservative lives have accused the Welsh Government labour of a war on motorists and say the plans would damage the welsh economy. Well, jack carson has all the details for you. Its not since 1935 that theres been a change to the default speed limit on restricted roads in wales. But from today , only 3 of but from today, only 3 of roads remain at 30 miles an houh based roads remain at 30 miles an hour. Based aukus following an election promise from first minister Mark Drakeford , 20 minister Mark Drakeford, 20 miles an hour is the new speed limit where it was previously 30. It means driving around an area where theres a pavement and streetlights close together. The new restricted speed automatically applies even without a 20 miles an hour sign up. For the Welsh Government, its about improving safety with a change expected to result in 40 fewer collisions and encourage people to get around in other ways like cycling or pubuc in other ways like cycling or public transport. But after coming under fire in first ministers questions, this week, Mark Drakeford defended his governments policy. Governments policy. Once the change is there and people see it operating in their areas as it has in the part of cardiff where i live. For a number of years now. Then people will see the advantages and i dont believe people will want to return to anything else. I to return to anything else. I cant imagine theres anybody on the floor of this senate who would think that it was an unfair price to ask somebody to pay unfair price to ask somebody to pay to drive a little more slowly when you know that by doing that, you are helping to keep other people alive. Keep other people alive. Now we always say Health Economy , public transport, economy, public transport, infrastructure , these are such infrastructure, these are such important issues. Weve got to crumbling Health Service here in wales. But me whats wales. But for me whats shocking and disgusting is to see that theyre willing to spend much money a spend this much money on a vanhy spend this much money on a vanity not invest vanity project but not invest that when to that money. When it comes to health. That money. When it comes to heathe scheme was piloted in the scheme was piloted in eight areas the eight different areas around the country finding country with analysis finding 95 of journeys were only affected by minute. With the affected by one minute. With the change to 20 miles an hour from today. Change to 20 miles an hour from today. 30 of in wales today. 30 of roads in wales will have the new lowest speed. But on the streets of cardiff, the new law gets a mixed reception. Its a little bit too low because if any traffic jams or anything like that , itll be or anything like that, itll be going along as a snail space. You know, the cars will be going on even slower than they are at the moment. I live in the north of cardiff and thats already been 20 miles an hour in most of the roads in our area for quite a long time. But its made my road much safer in the whole and better for my children who can go more in the area. Go out more safely in the area. The ones ive gone down, people were having trouble keeping to the 20. Do you know what i mean . I mean , lets be quite honest mean, lets be quite honest about a lot of people have trouble keeping to the 30. I think its a lot safer for everybody, especially children. Everybody, especially children. Yeah, im for it. Yeah, im for it. Its estimated the welsh will save £92 million with the change due to the less serious injuries caused at lower speed and for 12 months its expected roadside police will favour education over fines. When it comes to people breaking the new speed limit. The message today from limit. The message today from the Welsh Government that 20 is plenty. Jack carson gb news cardiff. Cardiff. Lets talk to motoring journalist Amanda Stretton , who journalist Amanda Stretton, who joins us now. So amanda, the reality is then if you want to go anywhere at any sort of decent speed in these streets in wales, you need an electric bike or a scooter. Or a scooter. Absolutely. Absolutely. And then you can get around quick. I mean, its it drives me mad when i listen to packages like like the one youve just played because theres no doubt that reducing the speed limit to 20 miles an hour is going to have an impact on road safety. But its the way its delivered. It is this carrot versus stick delivery where they are essentially demonising the motorists when theyre talking about things like encouraging road users to use other forms of transport. Give us an option for the majority of people then who dont live in the towns in wales. Theyre to going be relying on their cars to get to the town. Well then what are they going to do . Bring a bicycle with them as well . I mean, its just absolute nonsense when they sort of make these these seemingly logical connections , which in actual connections, which in actual fact are just utterly ridiculous. Im in favour of the 20, i must say. I just think the way they have delivered it and the way they are justifying it and all the language around it is just horrific and if you want the motorists to be on board, well then give them some solutions. Opens lots of our viewers have been getting in touch saying and youre going to use more fuel at 20 miles an hour. Its very inefficient. Is that true . True . Right. Well, at 20 miles an hourin right. Well, at 20 miles an hour in an internal Combustion Engine and an electric vehicle, whichever way you are using less fuel. The problem comes with the rapid acceleration and deceleration. And so for deceleration. And so for motorists who are frustrated, they are waiting to get out of that 20 when they then speed up rapidly, thats where the real fuel consumption lion starts coming in. So it is again, its very misleading to say that its going to reduce or reduce the fuel consumption because that really is down to the individual motorists as well. And the idea of, you know, its going to improve air quality as well, thats Utter Nonsense because unless these speed limits are introduced sort of worldwide , introduced sort of worldwide, you know, we all share the same air. So thats a very misleading as well. Look, im im really perplexed or should i say intrigued as to why youre furious about the way this has been introduced boost and yet you still think its a good idea . Because 7 because i 7 because i think if youre going to the motorists are under a lot of pressure. Theres no doubt about it. There are there are financial pressures, cost of energy, cost of fuel, road tax. Energy, cost of fuel, road tax. You know, our roads are in a dire state at along with lots of other services across the country. And yet costs are going up. Challenges are going up. Up. Challenges are going up. Nothing is ever made more simple. The reality is , whether simple. The reality is, whether you like it or not, we all rely on cars , whether you are a on cars, whether you are a motorist or not, because every single goods and service that comes your way will come via the Road Transport Network and that im in favour of the of the speed limit because its going to be reducing accidents. But i to be reducing accidents. But i think you have to you cant just keep punishing with the language and the challenges. You have to and the challenges. You have to start making it easier. And the challenges. You have to start making it easier. And by start making it easier. And by that i mean give motorists some sort of option. But you know, sort of option. But you know, the idea that motorists are just happily going to switch to alternative forms of transport, but they will. But they will only do so if they are given alternatives, alternatives that are practical and that dont cost the earth. I mean, when you look at many public transport options, they are in many cases far more expensive lviv than driving your own car. So you just need to make it for easy the motorist rather than more and more challenging thing. And the on the on going costs. Colin in romford has got in touch with us says a major consequence of lowering the speed limit will be the hgv drivers will not be able to travel so far in any 9 or 10 hour driving day and that will surely push up delivery costs. Surely push up delivery costs. Absolutely. And this is where i say we all rely on the Road Transport Network, whether were a motorist or not. So that cost implication is going to filter down to absolutely everybody. And thats where weve also had this disparity in the figures that weve heard from the Welsh Government regarding how much its going to cost to roll this out, because theres the cost of actually changing the road signs and policing or whatever. And and policing or whatever. And then add in addition then you add in the addition costs to the economy and thats where weve had this huge discrepancy in the figures as well, which again, i think is quite misleading and people dont really understand what what is being referred to what what is being referred to because again, if youre talking about 4. 5 billion cost. About the 4. 5 billion cost. Well, thats awful lot well, yes, thats an awful lot of and it would make a lot of money and it would make a lot more to invest that more sense to invest that into better schools and et better and schools and et cetera. Et cetera. What would be with just what would be wrong with just forcing the implementation of the 30 mile hour limits . The 30 mile an hour limits . Because a lot of the people getting touch yes, ive getting in touch say yes, ive got 30 mile an hour limit. Id got a 30 mile an hour limit. Id welcome being brought 20 welcome it being brought to 20 because whiz the because people whiz along the road. Well, why not put in speed cameras i im no fan of cameras . I mean, im no fan of speed cameras , but the average speed cameras, but the average ones certainly would force ones eyes certainly would force people to slow down to 30. Wouldnt that be enough . Wouldnt that be enough . Well, it would, but , wouldnt that be enough . Well, it would, but, you know, the road Traffic Charity his have produced plenty of data to actually say youre five times less likely to be injured severely injured when youre hit at at 20 miles an hour as a pedestrian than you would be at 30 miles an hour. But forgive me, forgive me , though, are me, forgive me, though, are there that many accidents . There that many accidents . I mean, because if you look at this, it sounds like someones being knocked over every ten minutes. I mean, ive noidea every ten minutes. I mean, ive no idea how many road accidents there are like that. You know , its a funny thing you know, its a funny thing because, again, when i was reading the data, i was getting quite about fact quite annoyed about the fact that say that something that they say that Something Like 40 collisions with like 40 of collisions with pedestrians happen in these 30 mile an hour zones. Well thats pretty obvious to me. I mean , pretty obvious to me. I mean, im surprised its not more than that because you dont that that because you dont get that many pedestrians walking on busy dual so its dual carriageways. So its pretty obvious that the majority of collisions with pedestrians are going to happen in built up areas where the speed limit is currently 30 miles an hour. And its not just cars doing it, john says. As john in it, john says. As john in oxfordshire, he says, i was driving through an oxfordshire village week where village this week where originally was 30, but its originally it was 30, but its now 20. Myself and the vehicle in front overtaken by three in front were overtaken by three bikes. Wow wow. Yeah. So there you go. I mean, i live in oxfordshire. Its a 30 mile an hour zone that has now also reduced to 20 as well. And i mean, i can tell you, nobody around here pays much attention. I mean, there simply isnt the resource for the police to actually actually check in on all the villages and towns around. Itsjust all the villages and towns around. Its just not not happening. I havent seen anybody yet. Yeah. Okay. Amanda, good to see you, as always. Catch up with you soon, no doubt. And keep your thoughts coming through on that. Gb views. Gbnews. Com speed bumps. Gb news. And there its now. 11,000 people feared deadin its now. 11,000 people feared dead in libya , hit by dead in libya, hit by devastating flooding. There are fears for any survivors in the city of derna. Not enough city of derna. Not enough medicine and clean water for those whove been made homeless in ukraine. Two cargo ships have arrived at a ukrainian port by using a new route to travel through the black sea. Theyre the first black sea. Theyre the first civilian ships to reach the port since russia pulled out of that deal that guaranteed the safety of ships. These ships were due to transport 20,000 tonnes of wheat for world markets. Wheat for world markets. And Scientists Say the sea ice surrounding antarctica is at a mind blowing low. Ice surrounding antarctica is at a mind blowing low. The latest a mind blowing low. The latest data suggests its well below any previously recorded winter level and it threatens the sort of missing ice, which is about five times the size of the british isles. Experts say an unstable antarctica could have far reaching consequences. Far reaching consequences. The latest figure shows the number of nhs patients going private has gone up significantly in the past two years. Well, is it a surprise . It comes after a worsening waiting list for nhs treatment. As of list for nhs treatment. As of july this year, 7. 68 Million People were on the list. Joining us now is our deputy Political Editor tom harwood, a very good morning to you, tom. I dont suppose you find it particularly surprising either people are so desperate about waiting lists on the nhs now theyre using their life savings to pay to go private. To pay to go private. It is perhaps unsurprising when you look at these twin numbers, the number of people waiting for nhs care soaring as it has by a million in the last year is. And similarly, you look at the number of those seeking private health care soaring by 20 in the last two years. These are not unrelated phenomenons , are not unrelated phenomenons, as im sure that most people could intuitively make out when the waiting lists are so long andindeed the waiting lists are so long and indeed getting worse, not better for those seeking other means to get their health care. Well they go private and it is interesting because you do look at how the nhs responds to these numbers , how these the nhs numbers, how these the nhs responds to these facts. They responds to these facts. They point to the fact that those waiting for two years or more has now been virtually eliminated. That waiting list has gone, but at the meantime , has gone, but at the meantime, at the same time as the longest waits being eliminated , many waits being eliminated, many more people are joining for short wait. So the overall size of that waiting list has indeed risen. 7. 68 million now is the risen. 7. 68 million now is the latest number announced in july. And to compare that to the number seeking private health care now , well, thats 980,000 care now, well, thats 980,000 this year, up from around three quarters of 1,000,002 years ago. Tom, what are you doing in essex . Essex . Im here in billericay for camilla, tonys show with the peoples panel. What he was doing there for me too. I wondered what he was doing yeah. What he was doing there. Yeah. Are there . Well, are you happy there . Well, should talk tennis. Yeah so this the davis cup. We so this is the davis cup. We dont much team action in in dont see much team action in in in obviously. We used to in tennis, obviously. We used to doubles, but this different. Doubles, but this is different. This actually nation against this is actually nation against nation. Won it as nation. Britain won it as recently having not won recently as 2015, having not won it 1936. And this it since 1936. And this afternoon britain i was going to say england then andy murray would be furious about it. Well, it would it would team in it would it would team gb in action in manchester at the arena 1 00 against france. Arena at 1 00 against france. Ill through this ill have to get through this match to the last eight. Match to get to the last eight. Andy murrays enjoying, i wouldnt say a swansong to his career its the career because its not the return the of him return to the days of him winning singles and grand winning his singles and grand slams that. Winning his singles and grand slana that. Winning his singles and grand slana bit that. Winning his singles and grand slana bit of that. Winning his singles and grand slana bit of a that. Winning his singles and grand slana bit of a bionic that. Winning his singles and grand slana bit of a bionic man that. Winning his singles and grand slana bit of a bionic man these hes a bit of a bionic man these days because hes returned from injury performing at injury and hes performing at a very level. But in the very good level. But in the davis cup, i really wouldnt want to face him because on a one off basis he can really pull things off. On for things off. And on friday, for example, when got past the example, when he got past the they against switzerland they played against switzerland who dont have Roger Federer anymore, hes anymore, of course, because hes retired. Was up against retired. But he was up against Leandro Riedi got through Leandro Riedi and he got through in sets and when youre at in three sets and when youre at home facing andy murray in front in crowd, in manchester in a in a crowd, i think thats a very difficult thing to do. And thats why the captain, leon smith, is saying today, it as noisy as you today, make it as noisy as you possibly quite emotional possibly can. Quite emotional for well. For andy murray as well. On friday, nans friday, he missed his nans funeral. Hes now a big influence on his career. He missed the funeral play the missed the funeral to play the game. In tears. He game. He was in tears. He dedicated the win afterwards to her. Little bit of an her. So on a little bit of an emotional of wave as emotional crest of a wave as well. If they could get well. And if they could get through a marvellous through it, itd be a marvellous thing because i think he enjoys davis cup, though. Think really enjoys the i think he really enjoys the camaraderie much anything else. Its interesting should its interesting you should say that and because you get a lot players are quite lot of players who are quite selfish, like, at look selfish, its like, look at look at for example. Tiger at golf, for example. Tiger woods wasnt interested in the ryder it was a team sport. Ryder cup. It was a team sport. But tennis, the rafa but you look at tennis, the rafa nadal keen with nadal was never that keen with spain the davis cup. Federer spain and the davis cup. Federer was interested in it with with switzerland. But everyone is switzerland. But not everyone is the murray loads the same. Andy murray had loads of his singles of commitments with his singles career throughout his life, but he to the davis he still gave time to the davis cup thats they it cup and thats why they won it in 2015. Whose Thanasi Kokkinakis is . Whose Thanasi Kokkinakis is . Pardon . I beg your pardon . I beg your pardon . Kokkinakis. I beg your pardon . Well kokkinakis. I beg your pardon . Well done. Kkinakis. Well done. Well done. Hes. Hes. He well, hes. Hes. Hes. He plays well he represents plays for. Well he represents australia, greek. Australia, but hes of greek. Greek australia greek extraction. No. Australia in there. The in the group there. In the group. Have they won in the group there. In the grou night have they won in the group there. In the grou night against have they won in the group there. In the grou night against switzerlandon last night against switzerland if they had lost last night. Britain would through britain would have gone through and match would and this afternoons match would have dead rubber. Have been a dead rubber. But yeah, theres yeah, i mean theres some good opfions yeah, i mean theres some good options jack drapers options there. Jack drapers playing, second playing, he got into the second the second week last week at the us a name the second week last week at the us known a name the second week last week at the us known us, a name the second week last week at the us known us, and a name the second week last week at the us known us, and cam name the second week last week at the us known us, and cam norrie well known to us, and cam norrie is still around as well. Leon smith, jamie smith, the captain, jamie murray, time murray, played last time as well, didnt he . Hes in the same team. Hes not there this time. Hes in the same team. Hes not that; this time. Hes in the same team. Hes not that that; time. Was a double that that was he was a double specialist. Jamie ward, as well, was who played was another guy who played in the past. Does switch the past. So it does switch around. Decent around. But still decent options. And honestly, ten years ago longer, you ago even or even longer, you wouldnt be able to say britain wouldnt be able to say britain would chance in any tie would have a chance in any tie like this. Yeah, well, well, i just kokkinakis, just wanted to say, kokkinakis, i terribly youre i know youre terribly youre terribly pleased with yourself that did. Terribly pleased with yourself thayou did. Terribly pleased with yourself tha you managed it. You managed it. You managed it. Its like that. Youll to ask Angela Rippon youll have to ask Angela Rippon whenever oh whenever she comes back on. Oh yes. Wonderful yes. She tells a wonderful story about was reading about how when she was reading the news there was there was somebody very important somebody who was very important in long time who in the news for a long time who had the most awful name to say. It was completely un pronounceable, had to pronounceable, but she had to say because was in the say it because he was in the news weeks on end and she news for weeks on end and she went home and practised in went home and she practised in front wardrobe mirror, front of the wardrobe mirror, you name you know, and got got the name right end. And he right in the end. And then he died. Oh she so she never had to died. Oh she so she never had to say it again. But she tells the story so brilliant. I remember having say, nick, nikos having to say, nick, nikos papavasiliou, the newcastle player. But the problem was his name was very expensive if you bought but the problem was his name wronery expensive if you bought but the problem was his name won ay expensive if you bought but the problem was his name won a shirtyensive if you bought but the problem was his name won a shirt because you bought but the problem was his name won a shirt because there ought but the problem was his name won a shirt because there washt it on a shirt because there was a number letters had a number of letters you had to put the back. The club put on the back. So the club quite liked him from a point of view. Oh wonderful. You mastered and when you mastered a name and you thats you can say it. I know. Thats why take hat off to why i take my hat off to football commentators. Yes. And tennis commentators particularly, tennis commentators parionlyirly, tennis commentators parionly sports aware of. The only sports im aware of. There such difficult names there are such difficult names and know them. Can and yet they know them. They can say fast. Say them so fast. Get them stuck in your you get them stuck in your head, though, dont you . Like Abdel Al Megrahi . Yes. Oh, yes. Oh, yes. Lockerbie bomber. Lockerbie. Well isnt well disputed now, isnt it . , exactly. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, exactly. Must have had say but you must have had to say that a lot. That name a lot. Yeah. Yeah. And he gets stuck in and he just gets stuck in your head. Always ask players as i always ask the players as well for an actual pronunciation. Yes, that helps. Even guide even though your style guide might pronounce it. Otherwise one of the ones used to one of the ones i used to have always say is double have to always say is double stoli. Okay have to always say is double sto friendy yours . Friend of yours . Friend of yours . No. But it was one of no, no. In terms going the travel thing terms of going the travel thing 20 miles an hour and using alternative transport instead of driving a car, sam cardiff driving a car, sam in cardiff says the boss here is as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike, which i think says it all, isnt it . Nicky can we have a look at it . Nicky can we have a look at this . Theres a great thing appeared on twitter or x or whatever we call it now about a burst water main. Yeah so its a street in brixton hill , south street in brixton hill, south london, a burst water main has turned the road into a brown river. I dont know if you can see the video, see how bad it is . Yeah, eventually itll come up eventually. But anyway. But anyway. But anyway. Yeah. Burst water main so the residents didnt have any water as a of the burst water as a result of the burst water main, they also couldnt get main, but they also couldnt get into their homes because of the water so dont water blocking it. So i dont know long on for though. It does look as though theyre living on a river. It does. But apparently they had one of these had they had one of these blocked off street neighbourhood things nearby so people couldnt take all route. Yeah absolutely. Happened to i mean, this has happened to me where i live, actually, my street flooded and street completely flooded and flooded before just after i bought the house. Tell us about it. Doesnt it just you how it. Doesnt it just show you how much there is on road . Much mud there is on a road . When a water main because when a water main bursts like that and youve got probably water going probably very clean water going down, filthy. And its down, it gets filthy. And its the gardens at the bottom of the road that are going to get absolutely filthy. Yeah sorry about that. In brixton. In brixton. Suffering from that. Suffering from that. Suffering from that. What about the observer , tom, what about the observer, tom, this morning, close to links with the eu is what labour wants. It is. I mean thats been clear for some time now, i dare say. But david lammy has been giving a speech in canada where hes there with keir starmer meeting justin various other Justin Trudeau and various other centre is very much centre left parties is very much trying to the government trying to present the government as that as little englanders that britain is back on the world stage. All of which i think is a stage. All of which i think is a little bit strange because this idea has turned in idea that britain has turned in on brexit, its on itself since brexit, its just true. We saw that with just not true. We saw that with ukraine and the lead that the government ukraine and the lead that the goytaking nt ukraine and the lead that the goytaking in relation arms. Be taking in relation to arms. I mean, this that the eu mean, this idea that the eu equals internationalism, ive never understood as never really understood as far as specific as its just one specific continent and one specific trading. And but it does trading bloc. And but it does show that where labour are concerned, they do want to move closer towards the European Union. This the problem. Union. This is the problem. Had so many mixed weve had so many mixed messages on messages from labour on this recently. Recently. Well, they want to have their cake and eat it because they know that they know that the reason that they lost election last time lost the election last time round was because round so badly was because their former heartlands were full of brexit furious brexit voters who were furious about the second referendum policy, starmer policy, which was keir starmer the second policy, the second referendum policy, lest forget. But at same lest we forget. But at the same time, they know that their lest we forget. But at the same time, social know that their lest we forget. But at the same time, social base now that their lest we forget. But at the same time, social base these|at their lest we forget. But at the same time, social base these dayseir lest we forget. But at the same time, social base these days are main social base these days are metropolitan, quite well to do liberals who love the European Union and anything short of rejoining yesterday is not good enough for them. So theyre trying to strike this balance, but do. Does but i think you still do. Does it make the next general election another referendum on it well seems like if well, it seems like if anything , well, it seems like if anything, its implausible that starmer would want it to become that. But at the same time, everything hes doing is getting us well. Keeps he keeps talking he keeps he keeps talking about being. It . About it not being. Doesnt it . Hes suddenly hes telling suddenly people like creasy out to like Stella Creasy out to newsnight to say , newsnight or whatever to say, you know, its nothing to do. You were that. You know, were not doing that. We want to be close to it, we dont want to be close to it, etcetera. Thing you etcetera. So but the thing you came on migration came out with on migration policy like no one to policy is like no one wants to be involved eus be involved in the eus migration policy. Be involved in the eus migltson policy. Be involved in the eus miglts a| policy. Be involved in the eus miglts a mess. I. Be involved in the eus miglts a mess. Theyve its a mess. Theyve been arguing for seven years its a mess. Theyve been arguing its for seven years its a mess. Theyve been arguing its hardor seven years its a mess. Theyve been arguing its hard to seven years its a mess. Theyve been arguing its hard to seeen years its a mess. Theyve been arguing its hard to see and ars because its hard to see and thats theyve got. Also, thats what theyve got. Also, their migration policy in terms of they with their of what they do with their external much more external border is much more brutal than anything Suella Bravermans but bravermans ever cooked up. But i think just first of think it just shows, first of all, that he sees the all, the fact that he sees the eu the answer all of his eu as the answer to all of his problems, which is a ridiculous perspective, but also that despite say despite the fact that they say they this to bed, they want to put this to bed, they want to put this to bed, they really i dont they dont really i dont think so. They do want something kind of at a kind of half talk of at least a kind of half talk about something else. Done have we done it . Weve done it since 2016. Ill tell you what, we could we could all prince harry we could all wish prince harry a happy you wanted to. Happy birthday if you wanted to. Not for today. It was friday, actually, the set actually, because the one set of group arent actually, because the one set of group him arent actually, because the one set of group him a arent actually, because the one set of group him a happy arent actually, because the one set of group him a happy birthday is wishing him a happy birthday is the royal oh its all the royal family. Oh its all been quiet. Shall we ask been very quiet. Shall we ask what . Whats going on . Jennie bond joins us, royal commentator and a very good morning, jenny. Hi yeah, apparently its all been very, very silent from buckingham palace. Nobody bothered to actually get in touch with harry and wish him a happy birthday. Happy birthday. Oh, well, as far as we know, certainly not publicly. And that has been the tradition in the past. Obviously, put past. Obviously, they put out stuff social media, except stuff on social media, except for last because they were for last year because they were in mourning because of the death of the queen. Yeah, of the late queen. So, yeah, i did put it down as a bit of a marker. If there wasnt some kind of public acknowledgement, then we all know exists then the rift we all know exists just seems unbridgeable to me. Just seems unbridgeable to me. The palace are putting it out that actually there are no pubuc that actually there are no public messages to ex members of the royal family or non working royals that only those messages, only the working royals get those messages. I dont know believe that if you want it may believe that if you want it may be true, but it certainly seems odd. I only hope that in private his dad did pick up the phone or pick up his phone and send a text privately to his son. You can only imagine that he would. I mean, the king seems to have tried to reach out a lot over the last year. Have tried to reach out a lot over the last year. Well, the over the last year. Well, the fact is, you know, in harrys book and interviews, he said if there were to be any negotiations, they were going to be private. Any reconciliation would be done privately. I dont think there has been. But ive always thought its the part of the parent the bigger person parent to be the bigger person to and to contact and to and try to make contact and i hope that the avenue of communication is still open. But im not sure about it. And between william and harry, i think honestly, that ship has sailed. Sailed. And what a shame. I think we and what a shame. I think we all feel its a shame, especially when we see harry doing so well at the invictus games. Jenny, its good to see you thank you much you as ever. Thank you very much. Short and sweet, but always lovely see i read a lovely to see you. I read a piece in the mail. I dont know if saw it the that, but the if you saw it the that, but the other families europe other royal families in europe are very seriously are thinking very seriously about how they treat their spares because theyve seen whats happened here and theyre actually thinking of giving the spare, as it were , a real job in spare, as it were, a real job in the in the higher hierarchy. The in the higher hierarchy. Yeah, i think thats a good idea. I mean, everyone and family should have a role and a skill and a talent and be treated as special people. I mean, the idea that youre brought up to be. Yeah. Second, you best you you know, second best and, you know, something know, only necessary something terrible first time terrible happens. The first time was. Was very nice. Theres places to be theres worse places to be brought the palace. Brought up than in the palace. Im not saying it was a terrible lie to be brought up without a role thinking. Just psychology of im just the psychology of that very pleasant. Im just the psychology of tha yes, very pleasant. Im just the psychology of tha yes, but. Ary pleasant. Im just the psychology of tha yes, but. But leasant. Im just the psychology of tha yes, but. But he|sant. Im just the psychology of tha yes, but. But he hast. Im just the psychology of tha yes, but. But he has had a he yes, but. But he has had a he has this his army role and everything he absolutely everything where he absolutely excels. Mean, that was excels. I mean, that that was a strong role, wasnt it . Well, it was. You know, well, it was. But you know, its you havent its that because you havent got of got an actual sort of constitution role, i just think as a child knowing that for some reason your brother gets something that you dont as a little boy, thats quite affecting. Well, funnily enough, its princess used to call well, funnily enough, its prin well, funnily enough, its prin oh, thats very strange, isnt it . Isnt it . Thought it was she just thought it was funny. Not really at all. Funny. Yeah not really at all. Sat in there and grew, didnt it. Mhm. It. Mhm. Just very quickly can we oh just very quickly can we have a look at randy spiders just because its like why not. This is in the daily star. Well all i have to say is this was suggested to us, it didnt come us but yes, didnt come from us but yes, apparently a billion arachnids are making their way into our homes. Some of them by parachuting through the air. Er because. Yeah theyre looking for mates. Theyre male spiders coming to look for females. I think theyre in your houses. And apparently what most people dont can dont know is that spiders can fly. They can easily get to around 40ft high by ballooning. Around 40ft high by ballooning. So even people in tower blocks or high rise buildings arent immune. Immune. Well, there you go. Well, there you go. News to end on some good news to end on those nightmares for us. And we will bring you more on those areas in wales those low speed areas in wales that being introduced from that are being introduced from today, plus , of course, all the today, plus, of course, all the latest developments on this. Russell brand story, which he at the allegations good morning to you. Its 9 00 on sunday. The 17th of september. These are the stories weve been covering on breakfast this morning. And a defiant Russell Brand has performed to fans at wembley just hours after being accused of Sexual Assault as media bosses face questions over their handling of the allegations. Russell brand allegations. Russell brand denies all the claims against him. Amidst this litany of astonishing , rather baroque astonishing, rather baroque attacks are some very serious allegations that i absolutely refute it and more. Refute it and more. 20 mile an hour speed limits are coming to a road near you. Perhaps wales is expanding its network of slow roads. Senior politicians , though, are saying politicians, though, are saying the whole thing is an absolute insanity as the Summer Season comes to an end, britains home grown tourist industry feeling the pinch as the cost of living crisis continues. Crisis continues. Of course. Morning to you. Of course. Morning to you. Im stephen dixon. And im anne diamond, and this is breakfast on. This is breakfast on. Gb news. And just weirdly , we were and just weirdly, we were just talking about acupoint fracture and reflexology and all these sort of, you know, these weird things that some people say are you should do something about them. Dont about them. Because i dont know whether i understand all. I understand them all. Theyre all no. Well, theyre all holistic, arent they . But the one thing i did, im very one thing which i did, im very sceptical all these sceptical about all these things, an ear things, but i did have an ear candle. Now i think sounds candle. Now i think that sounds revolting. Know what it means. I dont know what it means. I dont know what it means. Its a of tube its like a sort of tube thing they shove in thing and they shove it in and light and smoke goes sort light it and the smoke goes sort of into your ear. And it was. Ive never been more relaxed in my your no no. Your eardrum . No no. Your eardrum . No no. But some reason it works but for some reason it works and come out feeling really and you come out feeling really relaxed, probably what relaxed, which is probably what you need on a sunday afternoon. Oh yes. Gm em e would be quite actually, it would be quite nice. I book it nice. I think i shall book it for next cruise. For my next cruise. Oh, there we go. Oh, there we go. Very nice. Very nice. And weve had a lot people and weve had a lot of people agreeing completely agreeing with you completely about traffic. About air, not air traffic. Traffic speeding awareness couises. Courses. Oh, yeah. Oh, yes. Oh, yeah. Oh, yes. Oh, yeah. Oh, yes. Saying you are 100 right because youre not. You werent impressed . No. Yes, peter says i got it no. Yes, peter says i got it right. Graham jeff says i did a speed awareness course with an ex policeman very patronising. And he belittled me on questions i got wrong. Oh, if there is a i got wrong. Oh, if there is a next time , ill take the fine in next time, ill take the fine in three points. Crumbs. Crumbs. But. But lots of people also like trish and susan and maxine all found it very good and very informative. So, you know , informative. So, you know, thats just one of the many things weve been talking about today. Yes, lots lots , today. Yes, lots and lots, including the comedian and actor Russell Brand. Now its all over Russell Brand. Now its all over the papers and the internet. Of course, hes been accused of rape, Sexual Assault and Emotional Abuse during a seven year period right at the height of his fame. Four women have alleged Sexual Assaults. Between 2006 Sexual Assaults. Between 2006 and 2013. Whilst he was a presenter for bbc radio two and channel 4. And then, of course, an actor in hollywood movies. An actor in hollywood movies. Others have made a range of accusations about brands alleged controlling abusive and predatory behaviour. Well , all these predatory behaviour. Well, all these claims come from an investigator by the sunday times. The times and channel 4 dispatches, all working together. And the allegations include crew members on his big brother spin off show, claiming they were made to feel like they were pimps by approaching young women on his behalf and also claims that he raped a woman in los angeles. Now , their interviews were now, their interviews were voiced in the channel 4 programme by actors , and you may programme by actors, and you may find some of this content now distressing. Distressing. Hes grabbing at my underwear pulling it to the side. Im telling him to get off me and he wont get off like holding me up against the wall, pushing himself in me. He grabbed me and got me on the bed and i was fully clothed and he was naked at this point. And he held me down and he was just aggressive trying to, you know , me. Know, me. I was like, oh my god, he raped me. Raped me. He forced his penis down my throat and i couldnt breathe. I was just choking me. I was crying. And he said , oh, i only crying. And he said, oh, i only wanted to see your mascara run. Anyway i phone ed and sumba. He anyway i phone ed and sumba. He asked what it was regarding and i said , thats regarding russell i said, thats regarding Russell Brand being a sex offender. Its absolutely horrible , its absolutely horrible, isnt it . But on social media, Russell Brand has utterly denied these allegations. He says his relationships have always been consensual. Well, this is what consensual. Well, this is what he said on his twitter on friday evening amidst this litany of astonishing, rather baroque. Astonishing, rather baroque. Attacks are some very serious allegations that i absolutely refute. Refute. These allegations pertain to the time when i was working in the time when i was working in the mainstream, when i was in the mainstream, when i was in the newspapers all the time, when i was in the movies. And as ive about extensively ive written about extensively in was very, very in my books, i was very, very promiscuous. That promiscuous. Now, during that time promiscuity, time of promiscuity, the relationships i had were absolutely always consensual. I was always transparent about that, then almost too transparent. And im being transparent. And im being transparent. And im being transparent about it now well i well, earlier we spoke to the media lawyer, jonathan code, and asked him how mr brown could defend himself when he doesnt at this stage. Actually know the identity of the people whove made the allegations. Made the allegations. It is very, very difficult. It is very, very difficult. And having dealt with that, the kind of letter that brand found out eight days ago. So i can absolutely tell you what the letter will have looked like. And ive drafted them and received them. So he wont have been given all the details as hell be given some of the key details. But there will be more details. But there will be more detail that have come across in the programme that will actually have been told. But youre right, if he doesnt know the names the individuals, then names of the individuals, then it difficult to it makes it more difficult to defend it makes it defend himself and it makes it almost impossible to defend yourself trying almost impossible to defend yo prove trying almost impossible to defend yo prove a trying almost impossible to defend yo prove a negative. Trying almost impossible to defend yo prove a negative. So trying almost impossible to defend yo prove a negative. So youre to prove a negative. So youre you are in the most difficult position in, in brands case. And all you can really do. I mean, hes decided to go on the front foot. Well, he obviously had the power to do that because hes got sufficient social Media Presence go in hard. Presence to go in hard. All these are untrue these allegations are untrue at these allegations are untrue at the moment. Theres probably nothing that he can do nothing much more that he can do than deny it. Nothing much more that he can do than deny it. But, you nothing much more that he can do than deny it. But, you know, than to deny it. But, you know, getting some kind of forensic analysis of allegations in analysis of the allegations in these circumstances is well nigh impossible. These circumstances is well nigh impossible. Ill oh, these circumstances is well nigh impossible. Ill oh, dear. Impossible. Ill oh, dear. Lets talk to stephanie techy, our Showbiz Reporter, whos here now in the wake of all of this. Yeah, hes just sort of carried on, hasnt he, outperforming last night . Outperforming last night . The show has clearly gone for on Russell Brands because, as he this has been a he says, this has been a coordinated from the coordinated attack from the media, as hes put it. But it seems like hes determined to fight back. Yesterday, he performed at wembley park theatre to a crowd of 2000 people of his loyal fans. They had people inside the theatre who had banners saying, we stand by you. He also asked them not by you. He also asked them not to film the performance. Right . To film the performance. Right . But he said, obviously theres some things he cant talk about because he now knows that this and i think he says is now could be turned into a legal matter. So he had to tread carefully. And i have to say it was quite interesting that he actually had so much confidence and bravery to actually get on stage like he did, because most people would have it. Got more have cancelled it. Hes got more shows. Is from his bio and shows. This is from his bio and biopic polarisation tour. Hes got more dates next week and it seems like those havent been cancelled. Cancelled. Well, i guess this will be part of the message hes trying to the world now is that to give to the world now is that he goes on and hes going, why shouldnt he . Thats what hell shouldnt he . Thats what hell be saying. If im innocent of these shouldnt these charges, why shouldnt i go almost like he is go on . Its almost like he is trying his innocence , trying to prove his innocence, because if he does stay away from things, its from these things, its also actually people more actually giving people more thing to say. Something to hide. Hes got something to hide. Russell is now a married Russell Brand is now a married man. Hes a father. Hes expecting a third child. Hes married to kirsty gallaghers sister, laura and kirsty, before the programme had actually put a heart shape in support of him and she swiftly deleted that as soon as the programme came out. So you know, theres a lot of things that for Russell Brand right now that hes probably thinking, how does he come back from this , both with his family from this, both with his family and publicly. And both publicly. But its this difficult situation , isnt it, where, you situation, isnt it, where, you know, these allegations have been made and its quite right that theyre taking seriously because you know, its what what should be done. However for its not gone to the police yet. The not gone to the police yet. The police havent launched an investigation. Hes not been investigation. Hes not been charged with anything, never investigation. Hes not been charg foundh anything, never investigation. Hes not been charg found guilty. |ing, never mind found guilty. Well , you know, need well, you know, you need evidence these situations evidence with these situations and cases. Obviously, and with these cases. Obviously, the sunday times, the times and channel 4 felt confident enough about these stories that these four women have presented. Thats why theyve made it into that hour. And a half long documentary. Its very documentary yesterday. Its very damaging. So for them, they must feel that theyve got a good case. What their lawyers must. What their lawyers must. Have lawyered it they will have lawyered it like crazy. Has got his lawyers everyone has got his lawyers in as well. This is not in as well. So this is not a case thats just go case thats going to just go away. Its aired. Away. Now its been aired. Just ask you, yesterday can i just ask you, yesterday when and i were talking when you and i were talking about it, we were talking about the thought you the fact that we thought you thought the programme was about comedians plural, when comedians as in the plural, when i initially the tip about it i initially got the tip about it , we did about russell , we did hear about Russell Brand, then we then got brand, but then we also then got a tip saying that a further tip saying that actually its going to be more episodes like this for dispatches and channel 4. With the times, and maybe with the times, and its actually a host of comedians that theyre working on to the comedy on when it comes to the comedy industry, its quite industry, its been quite controversial. Youve had a lot controversial. Youve had a lot of female acts such as katherine ryan. Youve had sarah pascoe who have spoken about their experiences in the industry at the hands of male comedians. So there is more stories to come and katherine ryan, by the way. And katherine ryan, by the way. Katherine ryan, we shall we shall keep our eyes open for that, though. That, though. Stephanie, thank you very much indeed. Good to see you this morning. Loads of stuff coming through today on this whole speed issue in if youre in wales, youre going to be affected by this new speed limit in today. If its the 30s zone, its going to become a 20 zone and but its upsetting a lot of people , though. Some people say, people, though. Some people say, look, its a good thing. Its got to be done. And joe in staffordshire says, spare a thought for Community Care workers. Its going to take them longer to travel between calls and dont get paid for that time. It wont take you much longer, though, will it . Surely be. And it and its a good thing to try and avoid accidents , obviously. Stephen accidents, obviously. Stephen solihull says my wife and i are heading down to south wales next saturday anticipated saturday for a long anticipated break. This was booked before this lunacy confirmed and as this lunacy was confirmed and as much as we love wales and its people, this will be the last time we go there. Barbara says electric scooters can miles an hour scooters can go 30 miles an hour and in my opinion they should have licenced tax and insurance. Theyre more dangerous than theyre far more dangerous than a doing 20 miles an hour. So a car doing 20 miles an hour. So keep your thoughts coming through. It says some of you like it, some of you dont. Mike and marlow, blanket, 20 mile an hour limit is ridiculous. Hour limit is ridiculous. Its not blanket all over every road. Its 30 now. Every road. Its 30 now. Becoming 20. Yeah but its a lot of it though isnt it . Its a lot of the thing. Yeah. Yes. I dont think id be too happy, but you know, let us know what you. Is it worth getting upset about someone who never gets upset shes unruffled about someone who never gets upsyouve shes unruffled about someone who never gets upsyouve neverhes unruffled about someone who never gets upsyouve never seen|nruffled about someone who never gets upsyouve never seen|nru drive. All youve never seen me drive. Never you driving. Ive never seen you driving. Camilla tominey. Good morning. Camilla tominey. Good morning. To see good morning. Lovely to see you both. Discussing 20 mile ill be discussing 20 mile an hour and traffic hour zones and other traffic calming measures with susan hall on the show. The tory candidate who wants to oust khan as mayor of to oust sadiq khan as mayor of london. Obviously i think driving related issues are seeing the labour mayor of london slightly come unstuck. Yeah, so ill be chatting about those drivers are feeling clobbered in so many ways at the moment but arent arent drivers almost quadruple taxed because they pay their income tax and any other taxes and then they might pay their vehicle tax and then maybe if theyre living in somewhere london city, somewhere like london or a city, theyre residential theyre paying some residential parking theyre parking permit, then theyre being again. Parking permit, then theyre being again. If parking permit, then theyre being again. If enter parking permit, then theyre beiltn again. If enter parking permit, then theyre beiltn or again. If enter parking permit, then theyre beiltn or theyain. If enter parking permit, then theyre beiltn or they go. If enter parking permit, then theyre beiltn or they go 22 enter parking permit, then theyre beiltn or they go 22 milesenter parking permit, then theyre beiltn or they go 22 miles in er parking permit, then theyre beiltn or they go 22 miles in a an ltn or they go 22 miles in a 20 because theyre then getting a fine. So its never been more a fine. So its never been more expensive to be a driver, has it . No, but its interesting, isnt it . Because how do you a lot of people getting in touch this saying, no, its this morning saying, no, its all about safety and children this morning saying, no, its all ialljl safety and children this morning saying, no, its all all the |fety and children this morning saying, no, its all all the rest and children this morning saying, no, its all all the rest of d children this morning saying, no, its all all the rest of it. Hildren this morning saying, no, its all all the rest of it. Anden and all the rest of it. And there some safety there are some safety implications. Do you implications. So how do you balance against balance that out against the fact motorists just fact that as motorists you just feel being banged feel like youre being banged over head again . Over the head again . Absolutely. Thats the absolutely. And thats the case. Discussing case. Ill be discussing that with also pat with her. Ive also got pat mcfadden. Hes the shadow chancellor of the duchy of lancaster, so its a mouthful. Lancaster, so its a mouthful. Hes very powerful. Ive got also speaking to Donald Trumps former press secretary, stephanie grisham. But the most significant interview ive done this week is following on from speaking to Alastair Stewart last week about his dementia diagnosis so thought, lets diagnosis. So we thought, lets get side of this get the other side of this story. Lets speak to his wife, sally. To their sally. So i went down to their home hampshire this week. I home in hampshire this week. I spoke to her and this is a little she me. Little bit of what she told me. Was it really difficult was it a really difficult decision you both . I would decision for you both . I would imagine alastair, but also imagine for alastair, but also for he thought to for you, when he thought to himself back in the spring, im going to have to step back from gb news. It was a relief. It was a relief because i, i knew that something was wrong and to go and ive never been the wife that would sit there and watch every programme from beginning to end. And the same applied to end. And the same applied when he was doing regular gb news stuff, which he loved , news stuff, which he loved, loved doing. He really enjoyed it. But i was just worried that something might go wrong on air because obviously its live. Um, because obviously its live. Um, so in a way it was a relief when he stopped doing it because it shows how its a real family affair. Actually, this sort of diagnosis , this isnt it. Diagnosis, this isnt it. I mean, sallys never given an interview before. She used to work in the telly business. Shes been the shes very much been in the background, but i think she wanted up on behalf of wanted to speak up on behalf of other spouses, carers other spouses, other carers who have somebody life have somebody in their life thats diagnosed the thats diagnosed as and the focus the person whos focus goes on the person whos been diagnosed. And after last weeks know, weeks interview, you know, alastair has had an absolute flurry , supportive flurry of support, supportive emails, cards , letters and on emails, cards, letters and on twitter and social media. But at the same time , his beloved wife the same time, his beloved wife of 40 years is in the background coping with all this mean. He was saying wasnt he last week that its hard when someone youve been married for so youve been married to for so long then becomes a carer in effect and i asked her this how did she feel about going from lover to carer and shes very candid and its well worth watch. So thats coming on later on in my show, which starts at 930. Lovely. Well forward to lovely. Well look forward to it. Thank you. Thank you indeed. Thank you much indeed. Thank you much indeed. And well take quick break. And well take a quick break. Back in couple back with you in a couple of moments. Why moments. Talking about why private are failing private schools are failing children when take children when they take their gcses it is 918. Youre watching and listening to breakfast with stephen and anne. Good morning to you. Now latymer upper oh is a fee charging school in west london and they announced this week theyre going to be replacing gcse fees in all subjects apart from english and maths in favour of their own qualifications, which they will also assess. Theyll assess apparently. Theyll assess apparently. Oh, excellent. Oh, excellent. Everyone passed out up there up to up ultima ultima latter. What did i say . What did i say . Latymer. Upper latymer. Upper oh jolly good. Oh jolly good. Look, more than half of schools gcses this summer were given the top grade. That is a 9 00 in the model language. 9 00 in the model language. Katharine birbalsingh is the founder and head of Michaela Community school and she says these results are not impressive. Lets find out why she joins us now. Good to see you. This morning. What should we be expecting from private school fees and what do you make of them actually scrapping gcse fees and just doing their own thing . Yeah well, i think its thing . Yeah well, i think its very interesting. They say that, you know, children shouldnt be examined and at 16, its so terrible for them. But interestingly, latymer upper takes in children who have been examined, you know, these private schools have a seven plus an eight plus and 11 plus 13 plus, and they only take in the children who perform very well on exams. And that is because they recognise that exams does demonstrate some sort of talent. So theyre only taking in the best children and then they say, oh no, no, no, but the exam is that our objective and our National Benchmark that will hold them to account. They dont want to take they only want to take the exam. They want the children to take exams that allow them choose exams that allow them to choose whos but when it whos coming in. But when it holds to account holds them to account as a school , dont those school, they dont like those exams. Now so which is interesting. And its a real interesting. And its a real threat to social mobility in this country because the only way in which children , for way in which children, for instance, my school can can compete with the children at private schools is to be able to do really well on these exams. And then when they go into the workplace, they may not have their accents, they may not look like them, they may not have their backgrounds, etcetera, but they can turn up at that Job Interview and here are my interview and say, here are my here are fantastic results. Interview and say, here are my hereif re fantastic results. Interview and say, here are my hereif the fantastic results. Interview and say, here are my hereif the various stic results. Interview and say, here are my hereif the various private jlts. But if the various private schools and the reason why i worry about this is its not just latimer doing this bedales worry about this is its not just done|er doing this bedales worry about this is its not just done it doing this bedales worry about this is its not just done it already his bedales worry about this is its not just done it already andiedales worry about this is its not just done it already and otheres has done it already and other private will follow. Private schools will follow. What then will happen . Is that what will matter is the school you come from and theyll turn up and say, well, i went to latimer and job employer latimer and the job employer goes, course you goes, oh, well, of course you went it doesnt went to latimer. And it doesnt matter you have no matter that you have no objective benchmark you objective benchmark for what you are doing. Just are capable of doing. Its just that that youre that latimer says that youre all right and theyve marked their exams , so of course their own exams, so of course well so how is it that well take you so how is it that state School Children are then meant compete this is a very meant to compete this is a very clever move on the part of private schools to undermine social mobility. Its the social mobility. Its the privileged gaining more privilege. And somebody needs to Say Something. So im pointing this out because it needs pointing out now in terms of the results. The other thing to note , everyone says, oh, well , half , everyone says, oh, well, half their grades, half their exams are marked at grade nine. Yes. But if the private school and i do mean if the private school has entrance exams and not all private schools do, if they have entrance exams and they are one of those top leading private schools, say, in london. Right. Like latymer upper , they are like latymer upper, they are getting the very brightest children in the country. So how children in the country. So how is it that 100 of their children are not getting nines . I dont understand that genuinely, because our school, for instance, we have local grammar schools that take the top , top slice. A third of our top, top slice. A third of our exams are marked at nine, yet only 55 of latimers results are marked at nine. Theyve got kids we never see in terms of the ability, range and all of their kids. I would say , are their kids. I would say, are probably the top 10 of our school, maybe top 5 of our school. Thats every child in their school has ability up here. We are getting children who have ability to here get the same grades as their children up here. So what about all of their theyre only getting their very, very top kids, those nines. What about all the rest of their kids and everybody thinks to themselves, well these are themselves, well, these are private so they must be private schools. So they must be excellent you go round a excellent when you go round a private school, they show you the Tennis Courts and the swimming they show swimming pools. They do not show you and learning. You the teaching and learning. They of their they look at any of their websites. Dont talk websites. They dont talk about the the teaching the quality of the teaching and learning for maths and english and they and history and geography. They ignore all of that. Now, for parents say , i dont care ignore all of that. Now, for parerkind say , i dont care ignore all of that. Now, for parerkind of say , i dont care ignore all of that. Now, for parerkind of gradesdont care ignore all of that. Now, for parerkind of grades myt care ignore all of that. Now, for parerkind of grades my kidsa ignore all of that. Now, for parerkind of grades my kids get, what kind of grades my kids get, what kind of grades my kids get, what about is them having what i care about is them having great sports fields and Tennis Courts. Then thats also fine. Those are parents making that choice. But what i would say is that the moment parents are that at the moment parents are misinformed and that a lot of these schools survive on their their reputation and their name. Everybodys heard of eton, everyones heard of harrow. So everyones heard of harrow. So they send their children there and , isnt it brilliant . And say, isnt it brilliant . Theyre going these theyre going to get these amazing the thing amazing results. The other thing that doing we need to that needs doing is we need to look the companies, look at the tutoring companies, find private find out number of private school educated children who are being tutored , how many of those being tutored, how many of those grades are coming out because the are getting them. The tutors are getting them. Catherine, so sorry. Catherine, im so sorry. Were going to have to stop you there program there because the program itself is end. Love to is coming to an end. Love to talk to you for longer, but we got the gist. Oh, we definitely got the gist. Oh, we definitely got thank you so much got the gist. Thank you so much. Have a great sunday, wont you . 7 she 7 she makes . She makes a very good point. She makes a very good point. Absolutely. Oh, absolutely. Oh, absolutely. You need comparable i think you need comparable grades. Something compare grades. Something to compare everyone against.
