The same discouragement. We are here on the 4th of august and dont have answers for people really worried. We will keep working. There are 20 Senate Republicans who oppose any big bill or any new bill. Any new agreement will have to have democratic votes. We moved closer together on 5 or 6 issues. There are more to go. We are not even in agreement with those 5 or 6, but they understand the needs here. The Senate Majority leader Mitch Mcconnell is not in this set of talks. The plan he wrote last week fell flat among republicans. We know this will be a negotiated settlement. It wont be like march or april where everybody voted aye. The American People in the end need help. There is real worry about businesses collapsing or facing significant downsizing without another bill in the works soon. There is concern about the lack of urgency on capitol hill. We have heard about an exit strategy. They have to fund the government by the end of september. A potential solution here could be to merge whatever they come up with for coronavirus with a big megabill to fund the government. That would be 4 or 5trillion dollars. Thats not in the cards just yet. You cant have a Government Shutdown amid a pandemic. Neil chad, thank you very much. They are at loggerheads over the Unemployment Benefits. They expired last week. The 600 a week checks going out on top of state unemployment checks that uncle sam handed out. The battle right now is to either cut them down, stop them now. Keep them going. Graduated cuts. We just dont know. We know that the president is focussing on a potential planb if the 2 sides cant reconcile things. That is moving by executive order on some of that. Confusion over what that means. At the white house. President trump is continuing to threaten to act by taking executive action to stop two things in particular payroll tax collection and evictions. There is only so much that President Trump can do when are talking about requiring billion dollars of Coronavirus Relief funds. Congress controls the purse strings. There are a lot of questions about how much these kinds of executive actions could help things like the federal Unemployment Insurance benefits or funding for schools. So many schools across the country are in this critical period and are about to reopen. Today President Trump let his top two negotiators do his work on capitol hill and he stayed behind at the white house and signed a bill for the great americans outdoor act. The white house secretary said President Trump is still intimately involved with the negotiations. Through his chief of staff and secretary of the treasury. The democrats have offered no concessions and no plans. They are moving the opposite way. The president has had a very narrow specific focus right now. Its extendinging Unemployment Insurance and making sure americans dont get evicted. Democrats are holding firm and insisting on a comprehensive package we will keep fighting until we get there. We wont give up. We wont walk away. But we wont let them pick out one or two issues and say lets go home. We have a huge crisis that demands a huge response. President trump threatens to go it alone if they cant cut a deal. But doubt about how much he can do dealing with a package that would require billions and billion dollars. Well, first of all, there is a general agreement between enough republicans and democrats there ought to be some continuation of some help beyond the federal unemployment. Senator grassley said, we are paying people more than what they got when they were working. Thats not something i can adhere to. It doesnt make sense to me. It was something the democrats and the republicans and the administration agreed on because they had to have a fixed number. There has to be an adjustment, we should sit down. There has to be a way to proceed to get this worked out. Its just ridiculous. Open to any of those . I had people back home saying if you went to 400 or 300 for 2 months until we could invest to upgrading the systems of every state to get them up to speed. They could say this is what their salary is. They are at 70 of their salary. Neil to your point, that seems to be the middle ground, the way we are going. I am misinterpreting that . I think we have to deal with the facts. What happened in West Virginia a week ago, we were sent notices that the Postal Service would be closing post offices in rural West Virginia. That doesnt make any sense at all. It takes time to do this. The intent hasnt been to fix the system. The intent is moving away from that. I have a piece of legislation, its the post act which wont allow them to close any post offices during the pandemic cycle we are in. We have to have a function post offense service especially in rural america. Thats the lifeline for a lot of people. Everyone doesnt have connectivity or cell services. They rely on the post office to get medicine and their checks and communicate with loved ones and families. They dont have the luxury that other people might have in an urban setting. So the president has the authority for 6 months to suspend that tax. Everyone else would no longer withhold that tax from peoples paychecks. When that 6 months is over, then that tax would have to be repaid. But donald trump could say if i am reelected, i will forgive that tax. Its a way of cutting taxes without this congress necessarily authorizing it. Neil i dont want to get into a tax cut argument with you or even look at the spending side of the equation. No one is weighing how we pay for this. You are right. Its popular with the crowd. But no one is policing all of the money going out. I was disappointed that happened on the first day of school. I think there is a Silver Lining there. It reminded families we have protocols in place when that happe happens. We can isolate that student and do Contact Tracing and school it go on for the rest of the students. Neil what about other parents or students, are they anxious they contracted the virus from this student . Certainly there is a level of anxiety there. We look at seating charts for Anyone Around that student. We went into the classroom who would have been within 6 foot radius. We notified them that evening and sent a letter to all Junior High School students. I parents appreciated knowing things were if place to work with families through this.
