The president has made very, very clear, the virtual route is the thing to do that he wants all in person schooling to resume this fall. But growing signs all around the country and the dozens of locales that that will not happen. Welcome everybody. I am neil cavuto and this is between one. What even happens at the college level. We are going to be looking right now at what happens at the College Sports level a little bit. We are going to be talking to the lsu head football coach, what he makes of all of this. He still wants to see College Football season. That is a lot easier said than done. In the meantime, i do want to go to follow these fast moving developments in dallas. It is pretty safe to say that how our students and young people around the country start this school year is going to look very different and is going to be a patchwork of a lot of different plans. Those are plans that are going to be based on advice from state leaders and also local theaters as well depending on the covid situation in various communities. Many Public School district like austin, texas, have pushed back the original start dates like you were just talking about by a couple of weeks. Others are beginning with Online Learning and transitioning into in person teaching, which is the plan down in san antonio. A number of k12 schools have announced a mix of Virtual Learning it in person education. In North Carolina, for example, students are going to go to a classroom every other day or every other week. Mascot required for staff and students as our daily temperature checks. Nearly all states are giving parents the option. If schools are open, they can still elect to keep their child at home and participate remotely as is the case now in south carolina. The governor said Virtual Learning isnt as effective. What we need to do is take every step at our disposal and see to it that our children get back in their classrooms where they all want to be, where the Teachers Want them to be, where the district personnel want them to be and all of us want them to be. Neil colleges and universities face unique challenges, most offering a mix of inperson and virtual instruction. Also placing limits on student housing. No more than two people assigned to a dorm room. Emory university in atlanta that will require all students to take a covid test before they even move in. Everyone must wear a face covering. No matter where you live, getting back to learning and doing it safely poses some challenges and also is going to look different than people have ever seen it before. Neil thank you my friend, very much. If we get any developments of the cities and locales that are looking to formerly make that move to postpone the start of inperson training, we will pass those along. Dr. Anthony fauci was weighing in on the subject saying that among other things, he doesnt want to stop the nation in its tracks. But he does urge a pause. Take a look. I believe that we need to almost push the reset button. By pushing the reset button, i dont mean everybody walking down again. Obviously, that is the more draconian i do not mean that. Whenever i alluded to it as something that should be considered, everyone thinks that i said that. What we need to do is say we are not going in the right direction now. So weve got to call a timeout and do a pause and say, what do we need to do . Maybe we need to walk back a bit and say, if you are going to open, weve got to get everybody on the same team. Neil we need to take a pause. What does that mean . Lets listen to dr. Nicole saphier. He says take a pause. He said not to shut everything down, that he has been misinterpreted on that. You know that Peter Navarro among others criticize the doctor for being wrong more often then he is right. And giving false advice. He obviously challenge that. Where are you on this . A pause or an outright shutdown . And dr. Fauci is under the microscope these days. He has to be very careful of what he is says, because hes criticized no matter what comes out of his mouth. There is a glaring evidence of viral transmission throughout the communities in the country right now. As we saw, there is a possibility we can stop the virus. We saw what weve done in new york and new jersey. There is harsh lockdown orders. That is not a longterm soluti solution. But this pause that he is referring to, i think that everybody collectively wants to get our children back in school. That should be our number one goal right now. So pause and take a minute to think, what do we need to do as a society, as a country to come together to do what is best for our children . That may be stop going to end perch and dining right now. And certainly inside to bars and maybe we should try to decrease the amount inside socialization thats occurring right now. Throughout the country, we are having clustered outbreaks because of house parties and at large indoor gatherings. I think it is our time to take responsibility here in the midst of the global pandemic. One that we know that we can control by your own behaviors. If we take the knowledge that we have from how to decrease the transmission, we can lessen that Community Spread and get these children back to school. Neil we have just learned that houston schools will remain virtual at least for the first six weeks of the fall academic year. This follows at least half a dozen of other major School Systems that are also putting off in person schooling. What do you of that . I think we need to look at it on statebystate basis and a School District by School District basis. It is probably a good idea for the schools who potentially delay going back in person, starting with Distance Learning. There has to be a plan in place of how they are going to get these kids back into school. We have to remember that we are also going into flu season. Flu and colds and all of that other stuff that tends to circulate in us classrooms, they are going to be happening again. We have to come together and do what we can to decrease the amount of circulating virus and get these kids back to school. By delaying the Distance Learning, thats fine. But the Community Transmission is not us. Were the ones that have to stop that spread so that they can transition from Distance Learning to get them back into school. Neil doctor, we will see what happens on this front. More and more School Systems are putting it off. Dr. Safire, great seeing you again here we know a lot of the School Systems at the elementary and High School Level that might put off in person classes and the like. We also know the number of colleges and universities led by harvard that are also at least starting things off with the virtual online classes even though they are charging a full frayed worth of privilege. What is this also mean for College Sports right now and the future there . Lets go to ed orgeron, you know him, the lsu head football coach. Coach, always good to have you. Thank you for taking the time. How are you doing . Im doing great. Great to be back on your show. Neil same here. Do you think that we will have College Football this fall with so many conferences opting for only in Conference Games or in the case of the ivy league, no games at all . I think we definitely need football. We can have football. Theres obviously going to be some adjustments. Obviously, the safety of our young men are going to be first, but we are ready. Our guys came back early. We spent a week educating on covid19 what to do to wear the mask, social distancing. We have not had one breakout of a virus in our workouts. Our guys have done a tremendous job. We feel that we are capable and ready to handle this and ready to play football. Neil will they be playing to a full stadium . How is like an echo . I dont know that. I want Tiger Stadium as full as we can. I think that if you do wear a mask and do take a temperature and the right people come to the game, i think that we could fill it up and have a great deal of people. Neil obviously football is very important to lsu. It is important to a lot of schools that need them anymore. You guys are almost self fundi funding. Im wondering what it would mean for schools that maybe dont have the name recognition and the impact that yours does or even your reputation brings ahead of time. Are they in a world of hurt here if they delay things . I do believe so. I believe that we have to make adjustments. I do believe that we need to play football for many reasons. First of all, i think the country needs it. I think the state of louisiana needs it. The economy needs it. We all needed. Our children need to get back to school. We need to get on the right track and find a way to fight this thing. Neil you know, that concern too touch another they are going to have normal inperson classes and fall at lsu, but louisiana has briefly seen a spike in cases certainly doing better including georgia and texas where the spikes have been severe. But when parents talk to you im talking parents of those who play for you and the students of the school, do you think it is safe . I do believe that if everybody wears a mask, they practice social distancing, it is something that we have to push forward. And we have to find a way to go and live our life the way that we live it and to beat this thing. Neil when you are rallying the troops and the players, how did they feel . Are any of them concerned right now that you have rival clemson of course a number of players tested positive for the virus. There is a concern right now that that is something that is the next wave. Do you worry about that . We talk about it with our players. We feel that we give them the best care, the best education. It is something that we have to go through. We have a saying here, we dont blink. Whatever the situation at hand is, we will have to be able to master it. Focus and on having a great season. That is our mindset at lsu. Neil all right, coach. We wish you well. We hope it all works out well. A lot of people are anxious. That is coach ed orgeron, of course the lsu head football coach. What is it that they say . Go tigers. A lot of tigers for school. In the meantime, i want to get the reader in kristin fisher. She has been monitoring developments certainly at the white house where the president of courses at atlanta today. He took a rose garden opportunity yesterday to step back from all of this. And say that you know, it is important for everyone to see schools back. It is important that the economy moves forward. What is the latest that you are hearing . The white house still really continuing the push to reopen schools. The big story that has been dominating of the narrative here at the white house today is this viewed between white house trade advisor Peter Navarro and dr. Anthony fauci, which has been simmering for quite some time. I just burst into the open today with an oped that Peter Navarro wrote for usa today. And even though President Trump has not been briefed personally briefed by dr. Fauci in more than two months, today President Trump came to dr. Faucis defense and said that Peter Navarro should not have written this oped. President trump well, he made a statement representing himself. He shouldnt be doing that. I have a very Good Relationship with anthony. Here is the oped that President Trump was just referring to. The headline, Anthony Fauci has been wrong about everything i have interacted with him on. That is written by Peter Navarro. He is fully engaged in this matter. And in the interview with the atlantic, dr. Fauci called the effort to discredit him by some in the administration very bizarre. If you talk to reasonable people in the white house, they realize that was a major mistake on their part. Because it doesnt do anything but reflect poorly on them. I can explain Peter Navarro. He is in a world by himself. I dont even want to go there. He doesnt even want to go there. Right now, President Trump is down in battleground georgia talking about expediting Infrastructure Projects and an executive order that he signed to cut red tape and remove burdensome regulation. The white house takes on seven years to permit a big highway project like the i75 down in georgia. That process will be cut. The other issue that President Trump has been talking a bit about is the possibility of some kind of federal intervention in democratrun cities which have seen these big spikes in violence and President Trump today teased a big announcement about this topic sometime next week. Neil real quickly, the argument that Peter Navarro went ahead and wrote this column that really ripped dr. Fauci a new one, wouldnt it be procedure for him to round out by a certainly others at the white house or indirectly trying to give the president a heads up so that he is not surprised . That would absolutely be that procedure. The white House Communication Team from the White House Press secretary to multiple members of the white House Communication Team have come out today and said that Peter Navarro circumvented the normal process and did not run this oped by them. It is very telling that you now have the chief of staff, mark meadows coming out and somebody speaking on his behalf but saying that he is fully engaged in this matter. I think it is very clear that a lot of people inside the white house were not pleased that Peter Navarro circumvented the process i went ahead and publish this oped. Neil all right, kristen, thank you very much. Were learning right now that kroger is soon going to be demanding everyone going into the stores, customers follow the lead of employees who work there and wear a mask. You mightve heard earlier today that walmart has said, that will be the policy Going Forward for all 5,000 plus of its stores around the country. Some of them are required anyway and their respective states. Walmart is saying all customers and all our stores and all the states will adhere to this policy as will sams club. This on the same day the National Retail federation has recommended that all member retailers of that organization advise the same. Everyone wear a mask. Those working there and those shopping there. With a lot more coming up including what happened in new york last night, because nonviolence doesnt stop. And it keeps going on. Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg at home were learning doing well after being hospitalized on tuesday. Apparently he is suffering from an infection. The bottom line, released from Johns Hopkins university. She is doing well and resting comfortably at home paired we will keep track of that and also keeping track of renewed violence in new york where Police Officers themselves with a target. A black lives matter group and another group that is having a very distinct the view of it. United Clergy Coalition forces that say weve got to have a better way of dealing with all of this. More right now from brooklyn, new york. Hi, neil, we are outside city hall right now. We have just seen hours and hours of clash between police and counter protesters starting with this morning out on the Brooklyn Bridge. Lets tell you that video again during that pro police march alarming video showing a protester striking nypd officers with what looks like a rod. Reporting at least ten people have been arrested because of this. Four officers suffered serious injuries including the chief of the department, the highestranking uniformed officer suffered some minor hand injuries. In more counter protesters showed up at city hall. They were clashing with police and parishioners once again. And i just talked to an organizer process organizer that told me they were upset with her parishioners, because i felt like those parishioners didnt quite exactly understand that they were marching with police. Somehow they were tricked into it. This follows another night of gun violence. One dead, 500 with several gunmen opened fire in brooklyn. The mayor blames the effects of coronavirus. One Police Union President called him a liar. Listen. You cant be locking people up right now and letting them out two hours later. You saw what happened. The laws need to be reversed. And then we need to have real conversations. And that same Union President calling on the mayor to resign. By the way, the mayor Just Announced that he has launched a brooklyn Crime Prevention plan, and he has now signed that choke hold the antichoke hold bill into law today. We just reached out to his office to find out hes going to make a comment on all the violence we saw on the Brooklyn Bridge earlier this morning. Neil but no law against of the writer who put a Police Officer in a choke hold. If it were reversed, that officer would already be out of his job. Thank you very, very much. I want to go to albert jamison, the bishop with the united Clergy Coalition beard one of the members here. You were there and witness a lot of today. How does it get so out of control . Well, it may look out of control to you guys, but it wasnt really out of control to what we have seen. There was some protesters that came and was trying to lay on the floor. It was only about seven of them that were doing that compared to those of us that was doing it. It was just that it caught us off guard, because we was not expecting any of that at all. And so it was a great surprise. And so they held us up on the bridge for, like, 30 minutes to try to clear it and try to straighten it out. And so, we sought from the beginning. We just thought there were some people coming towards us. When they saw the acting up, the policemans call it, and they try to move them. They resisted and laid it on the ground. That is how it all started. Neil you know, bishop, this started i guess as a pro police in march, not necessarily an antiblack lives matter march. Explain what you are trying to do, that message you are trying to send. Well, there is never, ever been a move that has launched that was marching for jericho, that prayer march. One was protesting. We was not protesting. We was wanting to bring prayer to this city. There is no secret that our city is in trouble. And so we were coming together, and all of our pastors, the jewish, we had a nice group of people coming together just to pray and proclaim jesus christ as being lord of the city. Neil in this day and age, i think youre quite right. We focus on a desktop with these officers that triggered by a few of black lives matter crowd. That was far from typical. Im wondering where you see all of this going in new york city. Do you see things calming down, or do you still see the same fiction . No, its going to calm down. The name of our march was the jericho march. Notice what was going on in jericho. It is in the bible. Its in the book of judges. In the sixth chapter, the canaanites, and all kinds of army was against israel. They had problems, but they marched like we did. And at the end of the march, they was crying, shouting, and praising him to they god and the walls came down. Our whole idea it was to come here to there has never been a march 4 jesus. Youve never heard anyone talk about prayer. It was about 15 people come about 15 people compared to 6,000 people wouldnt even consider it. We kept on doing our thing, because the bible says, if you rest iresist the devil, he will. Our country, the world is in trouble. They have no cure. They have nothing to help us. And so, the answer is and i believe that the republicans are not a problem. And the democrats are not the answer, but if my people that are called by my name shall humble themselves, pray, seek my face, and turn noticed god promised 2 things. He would promise that we would hear from him and there is no doubt in my mind, no doubt in my mind if there ever was a time that we need to hear from god, we need to hear from god now. Whether or not you want to believe whoever your god is, there aint no god answering now. In the second thing the bible says, he will heal their land. We all can agree, nobody has a cure for this. Our land it needs to be healed. They are talking about its coming back up again. They are talking about a new Service Coming again. When we came together to call on god and ask god to heal their land, and we need an answer from you. And that is what i thought was about. Neil already, bishop. Thank you very, very much. I know you are trying to do some good in a world where we are reminded of only the bad. Thank you very, very much. At this is not a situation as the bishop pointed out unique to just that the new york city area. Theyve added violent uprisings in new york city by the way. In the message from the mayor there is that everybody else stay out. We dont need troops. We dont need Homeland Security. We dont need any of you after this. groans hmph. food grunting menacingly when the food you love doesnt love you back, stay smooth and fight heartburn fast with tums smoothies. But for you, theres a pill that may provide symptom relief. Ask your doctor about the pill first prescribed for ra more than seven years ago. Xeljanz. An unjectionâ„¢. Neil all right, well a message to Homeland Security from the mayor of portland, oregon, stand down. We do not need you, so about out out. Making it very, very clear that he can handle whatever is going on in the city which is become increasingly restless. His downline very violent. Political leaders in oregon have never been comfortable with the presence of federally armed federal agents on the streets of portland. Their patients appears to have run out completely. After an incident after a protester with a fractured skull, watch carefully here. A small canister is fired toward a protester who is standing still. He bends down and appears to flick the canister a few feet back in the direction of a knot near the line of agents in front of portlands federal courthouse. Seconds later, that protesters head directly in the head by a some sort of impact munition. Unclear if that was another canister, a rubber bullet, a sponge or bean bag round to it that is what prompted the mayor of portland to call for the federal agents to get out the street. And oregons u. S. Senators run wide to the right to attorney general bill barr and acting secretary chad wolf saying we unequivocally condemn such acts of violence and any effort to target, attack, or silenced those peacefully exercising their First Amendment rights. President trump said again today that if local officials and cities like portland cant control protesters who have attacked police with rocks, bottles, and hammers, than he, the president will. President trump the leftwing group of people that are running our cities are not doing the job they are supposed to be doing. Its not a very tough job to do if they knew what they were doing. Nine promised some sort of announcement next week with the attorney general and the fbi as the debate continues over whether sending in militarized federal forces actually columns are in the flames all of these sort of situations. Neil jonathan, thank you very much my friend. A little bit on what jonathan was reporting. In the department of Homeland Security advisor. Sarah, very good to have you. Obviously, some of the mayors and governors recoil at the thought of bringing troops and, Homeland Security folks end. In some cases, they are warranted. In fact, they are urged. How do you feel about whats going on in portland right now . I think what is going on in portland right now is indicative of what were seeing around the country and a lot of the major u. S. Cities. Not only do they not want federal Law Enforcement resources, but they can barely tolerate their own Law Enforcement department. Their state and local Law Enforcement agencies. Really, quite frankly, there is no pleasing them in terms of having any capacity to keep and maintain law and order within their communities. And what were seeing is significantly constrained Law Enforcement agencies around the country that are leading to exceptionally large it rises of violence in these cities. New york, for example, neil, up 160 . You are seeing the same around l. A. You are seeing it in atlanta, chicago in any given weekend. The violence exceeds that of afghanistan and iraq. What does that say about where we are currently in this country with maintaining law and order and allowing our Law Enforcement agencies to do the job that they were charged with . Neil you have to think about it. Even in some of these cities where lets say Police Chiefs have to answer to the mayor in seattle, the police chief was saying that this has to stop. They quarantined a radius. There was violence as you know. But the bedlam continues and there the resistance on the part of many of these mayors may continue to go back to the george floyd situation appearing it is out of control whereby resisting health, it does get out of control, doesnt it . Yeah, he sure does. Anyone in Law Enforcement back to my previous point when i was on with you is that with happened with george boyd should never have happened. And those officers need to be accountable. But to label a hundred thousand state and local officers as racist, murderers, evil, it is not true. The statistics do not support that type of language in describing Law Enforcement officers around this country. And now, what were seeing is that we are saying that a prioritization of importance here, that really doesnt match what Law Enforcement officers are supposed to do in terms of protecting their community. If we look at portland, we have city blocks that were taken over as encampments were set up by force. And yet the Portland Police department to appease their local political leaders wanted to point out very quickly that they didnt use any force. They did not use any tear gas. No protesters were injured. And that is going to be the priority, then we really shouldnt have these officers on the streets to endanger themselves. Neil a lot of great points they are i appreciate it. No matter where you are on the side of this ledger here, if they cant get done at the locales against the mayors forces, then maybe they have to look at other forces. Also monitoring Election Results last night. A lot of people bemoan the president s poor performance and national polls. He has impeccable winning record when it comes to candidates he chooses and they keep winning. After this. [ engines revving ] its amazing to see them in the wild like th shhh. For those who were born to ride, theres progressive. Im an associate here at amazon. Step onto the blue line, sir. This device is giving us an Accurate Temperature check. Youre good to go. I have to take care of my coworkers. Thats how i am. I have a son, and he said, one day im gonna be like you, im gonna help people. Youre good to go, maam. I hope so. This is my passion. If i can take of everyone who is sick out there, i would do it in a heartbeat. President trump it was a tremendous win. Very happy about it. Also a tremendous win for ronnie jackson. And it looks like it could be a tremendous win for a gentleman named gonzalez. You know about that. At that race is still a little bit going on. By the time i got involved, a lot of the votes were already cast. Really at the last moment, we think he can easily win that area. Neil the president saying that he has the midas touch when it comes to go on to win. He has an impeccable batting average among all of his choices go on to victory. The Washington Examiner with us right now. Im wondering if that telegraphs something. What do you think . It really shows that republicans really trust President Trump. They are going to follow his lead when it comes to a lot of choices between republican pic picks. Use all that with Alabama Senate race in particular. Its important to know that this is not a universal rule. Madison cawthorn in North Carolina who won the primary was not endorsed by President Trump and won over the endorsed candidate. Hes only 24 years old. It also shows that while trump has a great sway over their Republican Voters and voters who identify as republican are motivated enough to go out and vote in primaries, it doesnt necessarily mean that he will have the same sway over people who vote in the general election. At that point, trump needs to appeal to swing voters and people who did not vote in either primary. Those primaries so far are not going to tell us how that is going to play out. Neil you know it is interesting. I talked to the 24yearold candidate who is not at all inclined to criticize the president. He said he will welcome the president s endorsement. Its very, very clear, he doesnt want to wrestle and leave others. You are right. This sets the table for the fall and who will be at the respective of each party. But im wondering how you see that sorting out. The president largely being judged on how hes dealing with their coronavirus and how he is dealing with all of that. These battleground states it depends on the battleground state. It is an uphill battle. How do you say its going right now . Theres a lot of time left in the race. More than 100 days. A lot can happen in those 100 days. Its a big uphill battle for President Trump. Its going to depend a lot on how the economy is doing and some of these swing states. But more so whether people feel safe and safe to see their loved ones and save do not contract the coronavirus. How much is it being spread in these swing states . That is going to be a very big issue. That will probably be a very big determining factor about whether voters who havent voted in decades who voted for trump in 2016 come back out to support in this time around. Neil where does Jeff Sessions go now . It was almost a little sad to see him praying for his old job, losing the nomination. It didnt help his fractured relationship with the president. But he remained a popular figure in alabama. You wouldnt see it last night. But what about his future . I would expect Jeff Sessions to still be a prominent figure in republican circles. If theres still a lot of prominent republicans who respect him and some who even would have preferred him over trumps pick and really like what he did as attorney general despite what President Trump has criticisms of sessions for recusing himself from the Robert Mueller probe. At this point, it doesnt look likely that hes going to run for office again. But he could be somebody that a lot of people go to for advice and probably still be very influeninfluential in alabama p. In this year, i never predict third parties. It is certainly possible. It is not something that is on my radar. Neil i was talking about alabama, whether or not they would allow that. Thank you very, very much. In the meantime, we should tell you that they great mask assault is nonpaid alabama, the latest state to say they are not just a good idea, we are forcing the issue. We get more and more like kind of news. Thank you very much. Busy world opening and expandi expanding. Disney, hong kong closing and worrying. Whats going on in this world after this . You know, steve sent me this, the only ones that revisit restrictions when there are spikes in cases, and businesses do it all the time. You wouldnt see that at Walt Disney World in the United States and florida in particular, where they have expanded the fight in cases for all major cases not being open including epcot, Hollywood Studios, Magic Kingdom and animal kingdom. But across the world disney world hong kong is closing for the time being because of a spike in cases they are. Noticeably more worrisome there.
