My view, is unfair to the president , it is dangerous to the presidency, and i think 41 republican senators and growing is a strong signal to our house colleagues that you are off script here. Fox news is told private interviews are expected to wind down it in public hearings are expected to start around midnovember. Among those likely to be called back my house democrats, the u. S. Ambassador to ukraine, bill taylor, and former ambassador, Marie Yovanovitch and House Majority leader says the probe will be public when it counts. They are going to get a vote on the floor, thats the only way impeachment can happen. It has to be and will be a public vote and they wont have to stand up and say that they get it. They either going to get a license to a president to do the things that are asserted if, in fact, we find those facts, or not. Graham and others say the president and his g. O. P. Allies should have rights now. If you believe you have a case against a president , vote to open up an inquiry, allow republicans to have a say, make sure the president is allowed to participate in a meaningful manner, like we did in the past, thats the way to do it. Graham knows he has at least 41 g. O. P. Cosponsors for his resolution, meaning a sizable part of the senate. House members are doing it wrong, he believes. You want to give her a much paid make next guest was part of yesterdays g. O. P. Senate. Johnson joins us now. Thanks for joining the show. I was quite a spectacle walking through the genesis of the idea and exactly what were you trying to accomplish . It started out as a news conference. Thats what it was. A press conference. To bring light to the fact that these hearings, interviews, are going on behind closed doors. Under president nixon, a democrat speaker gave president nixon fairness, due process, and justice. Under president clinton, a republican speaker gave the same to president clinton. Why the democrats have decided to do it this way, nobody knows. What do they have to hide . It is time for them to stop this secretive process and give every member of the house what we are entitled to on behalf of the 721 people we represent, access to that information. And thats what yesterday started out as. It ended up going down the hallway to get inside the door to talk to the leadership, to get into the hearing, and it evolved from there. Charles your thoughts on senator graham now getting into the frame of handing out to republican colleagues in the house . Im very glad senator graham and other republican senators are standing out. It is time that we all stand out. You know, i dont agree with the Washington Post very often but i do agree with her masthead on the front of their newspaper. Democracy dies in darkness and thats whats going on here. This sham of an impeachment inquiry is going on in secret, behind closed doors, the constitution gives the house full story over impeachment, not the speaker and certainly not a. Charles i think this is backfiring on the democrats because from the outside, it does look shady. Lets be honest. The secret meetings, the leaks that are fortuitous, only for democrats, you can verify what they are, of course the media bias seems to work with it but i think people will look at it from the outside in, we want full transparency and we are acting like its wrapped up sooner rather than later. We need it wrapped up sooner than later but back to those previous impeachment inquiry is under nixon and clinton, both of the president s had counsel that were allowed to crossexamine witnesses, examine evidence. Interview witnesses. They had subpoena power, they gave subpoena power to the minority party. We demand the same kind of due process here so that this can be brought out into the light because at the end of the day, heres what we are going to find out, the president did nothing wrong. I read the transcript. If they dont have anything to hide, why dont they come out and show that . Charles before i let you go sir, some speculation has been brought out that its a foregone conclusion that there would be an impeachment in the hospital is being drawn out for political reasons against certain timing of the election process. What you make of that thought . Well, there is no question that this is all political. If you remember, Speaker Pelosi has brought an Impeachment Vote to the house floor several times already and it failed. My suspicion is, im not sure she has the votes, because a lot of members of her party were elected in districts that supported donald trump in 2016. They are going to have some strong accounting to do if they persist in this charade. Charles representative johnson, thank you very much. I appreciate it. Now, took a minute the center of the impeachment probe of president bill clinton, rowan wick and trent lot and democrat tom daschle running an oped today that the candidate can hold a fair impeachment trial this time around. Lets ask from the independent womens forum, democratic charges, and the wall street journals james freeman. James, what you think . I think what the senators intended i that whole piece is an implicit review of the house process. They are talking about how they came together and settled on a big, long, open inquiry, how they look to the traditions, the president s, and how they came to a bipartisan agreement, not on the activity of bill clinton, but how the process all was ran and it was basically the opposite of what we are seeing in the house right now. Charles i think this is something that nancy pelosi herself has pulled into, kicking and screaming, she finally said okay, lets go to a come after a harsh weekend of aoc tweets, and now they are in the midst of something and not quite sure how to roll it out. I would slightly disagree with that because i think the way that this proceeding is actually frankly exactly what people as it asked for. The democrats are Holding Hearings to understand the facts and deciding whether or not to bring impeachment articles its an investigation, its funny. The republicans are saying we should hold a vote but then earlier, republicans criticize democrats for not looking at the evidence. Now we are looking at the evidence and saying after we find evidence, we will hold a vote or not hold a vote on the basis of the evidence found and then there will be a public hearing. I think the republicans are chomping at the bit on this because he loves it and going on for two weeks just to find a little bit of information and then actually draft articles of impeachment that would be voted on here that would be the Natural Steps and include public hearings in the process. Charles are you buying that . No. Not really bid this is a political process. Its not a legal trial, this is a political process and that means its a battle in the court of Public Opinion and right now, having these things being behind closed doors but also be in the headlines day after day it with selective leaks that are only sort of showing the things in the worst light for the president , look for the president s supporters are going to want to hear from these folks actually being question, especially when they are members of the Administrative State and what the president called the deep state. Others showing these folks as totally neutral, apolitical, thats often not true. 95 of political donations in 2015 from part federal employees went to Hillary Clinton so they want to see these folks crossexamine. They want to see them out of the public. This is a dramatic thing, impeaching the president , and republicans have the right to weigh in. Charles it feels a lot of this is sort of a campaign against President Trump to damage him more than anything else. If everett single day the drip drip drip is something negative, another bombshell from another anonymous source, someone behind cold doors, its tough. The narrative is certainly against President Trump and thats building up without any counter. Yeah, im not seeing a lot of bombshells, other than what adam schiff is searching for is evidence that the president unduly pressured the Ukrainian Government to examine biting activity is, which the bidens have promised never to do again. So, weve got we have the burisma story, the shady ukraine jail, now nbc news reporting today on hundred bidens work in romania where they had a land deal over there. His hunter biden now going to tell us he is an expert on romanian real estate law and Development Deals . These i think most people would look at this and say you know, that should have been examined. And we can probably argue about the correct way to do it but iti dont see how you get an impeachment out of it. Still in the president released the transcripts and it felt like it change the narrative. Again, this is where it feels like the democrats have been more secretive about the process but more desperate as well. Again, we dont hear things except leaks and any innuendo. But thats what, as i and as pointed out, its a political process. The president is entitled to anything and thats what so offensive about what the congressman said. You not entitled to representation. They are entitled to that in the trial, and a son, but not in the house for the house rules are actually clear on this matter by the rules may be unfortunate and inconvenient for republicans but they are the rules. They are more than just inconvenient. It these are people. As an aside, i think thats the important factor here is again, this is a traumatic thing for a country. This is the third time weve gone through this in history and forth, if you count nixon who was going to be impeachment then resigned. Its a traumatic thing for the country and i think its really important just like with the mueller process that the public has access to the information and all they can decide for themselves because as we see, the public doesnt trust the process on the, they dont trust congress, they dont even trust the president. They dont trust any of the institutions that are at the center of this and its all underwater and public approval so i think they make and people have the right to look at that evidence directly and whatever else, decide for themselves. We dont trust peoples opinions on this. You and thank you all very much. Im going to leave it there because we are keeping a real close on it. Taking a beating down huge. Under 35 points for that includes the 7. 6 loss worse than excited earnings from the company could we are going to go into a lot more detail on how this is going and of course how brickandmortar retail is going to do during Holiday Shopping season later on in the show. Meanwhile, attorney general william barr under more pressure to recuse himself from the ukrainian pro but not from folks in washington. Try a little further north. All rise, judge napolitano. Lets hear it. Im embarrassed to even say i felt like i was going to spend my whole adult life paying this off thanks to sofi, i can see the light at the end of the tunnel as of 12pm today, i am debt free we have no debt, we dont owe anybody anything, and its fantastic doprevagen is the number oneild mempharmacistrecommendeding . Its gone again. Oh, its back with shrimp now steak lobster starting at only 15. 99. Hurry in before these three are gone again. Outback steakhouse. Charles the new York City Bar Association no calling on attorney general william barr to a recuse himself from the ukraine probe or resign. Judge napolitano is here. What you make of that . Thats a pretty tough demand. Is very unusual that some entity not involved in a process criminal investigation would try to assert itself in eight and say that the ag is conflicted. I dont know what the conflict would be. Now, we know of two criminal investigations emanating out of the ukraine episode, if you will. Neither of them involve the president. Both of them involve the former associates of Rudy Giuliani and their fundraising mechanisms and whether the money came from a russian or ukrainian corporation. Thats the only connection to ukraine. The argument that the new York City Bar Association makes is that because the president suggested in the conversation with president zelensky of ukraine that he has his prosecutors talk to attorney general barr in order to further Rudy Giulianis efforts to find dirt about joe bidens, somehow the attorney general bill barr is disqualified from being involved. The attorney general says not only did i not do anything, but first i heard of it was when i saw this transcript. The president didnt even tell me he was suggesting my name. That would tell you theres no basis for a conflict of companies if, when you cant be fair, when you are drawn toward something else, and you cant if your witness in any case, you cant be the judge. If youre a witness in the case, you cant be the prosecutor. Thats the level that things would rise to the red one attorney general sessions recused himself, famously or infamously, however you want to look at it, from the what we came the mueller investigation, he did so because he knew he would be a witness in the case. Nothing like this. Charles according to the new york bar, they said the reason for this is not the focus on legality at the president s actions or the merits of the whistleblower complaint, you know, i guess its the relationship between the ag it feels more like a political stunt. Its always a political statement. It is far as i know theres no criminal investigation. The department of justice investigates crimes. There is no criminal investigation that i know of of the whistleblowers complaint. This is an Intelligence Community investigation which now has morphed into an impeachment proceeding in the house of representatives. Its is ahead scratcher to me with the attorney general has to do with us. Charles let me switch gears here because a moment ago senator graham put out a resolution that hes condemning house democrats. He says this process has been unfair and dangerous and that they have gone repeatedly off script and at the president and his allies should have rights. Would you make of this . Im critical of it for a couple reasons. First, the constitution gives the house the sole power of impeachment. The senate has no say in it whatsoever. Second, the constitution gives the house the right to set its own rules and they did write the rules which are now being followed by congressman schiff. They were written in 2015 when the republicans ran the house. The congressman schiff and the other two committees, which includes many republicans are doing, is the initial interview of witnesses. No prosecutor whatever put a witness, no lawyer would ever put a witness, and a public forum without interviewing that person first. Senator graham and his staff to that in the bill clinton impeachments, congressman rodino and his staff did that in the Richard Nixon impeachment, congressman schiff is choosing to do it in front of the committee, rather than just in front of investigators. The president s Due Process Rights will come into play when witness when evidence is publicly presented before the Judiciary Committee but the preliminary investigations, the preliminary inquiries, never in public. Charles well, theres a lot of frustration about this. There is and if it were up to me i would love to be a fly on the wall that i would love to know whats going on. But the house rules dont permit it a at this stage. Charles i also think the selective leaks dont make this even more thats part of the system today. Thank you so much judge. Jerky may have made a ceasefire in syria permit but defense secretary mike s versus stomach still smells trouble. Weese see them staying closer to russias orbit then in the western orbit. I think the encouragement was unwarranted that the direction of turkey is headed in the wrong direction. On any number of issues, we see them spinning closer into westers orbit than in closer to the western orbit. Charles mark esper slamming turkey for its managerially offensive into syria saying they are spinning closer to russia. How should the u. S. Handle natal allies acting out . Jerry boykin is here to discuss. General, thanks for joining us. Good to be with you. Nice suit, too. Charles inc. You very much. Its amazing for a lot of folks who are watching turkeys actions from the outside. Its amazing because its hard to believe that they are a nato ally considering how cozy their relationship has been with russia using in buying Russian Defense weapons and systems. How did they get away with this . Ill tell you, i am really disgusted with the people they keep talking about america didnt want to go to war with the nato ally. Do you know what its a violation of the u. N. Charter for any nato ally to invade a country that already has other nato nations on the ground there military personnel. They should be on turkey here and i will tell you, i think its only a matter of time until turkey is no longer going to be able to be a member of nato because its really not a Representative Government. He is not allowed this to be a true Representative Government which is one of the fundamentals to being a member of nato. The other is a market economy. They are not really representative to the government. Charles after the failed coup attempt, he certainly cleaned everything out in all levels of society and government to your point, wiping out former proposition there and so the foundation, the democratic foundation, has to be weekend but now, the calculus is russia, growing power in that sphere of the world, growing influence. What does it mean for us . Well, i think russia is a winner in this thing. Along with iran. It clearly means that weve got a nato ally that has now sided with and joined forces with the very entity that nato was created to stand against. So i think this portends future problems for not only america but probably for nato in general. Charles listening to President Trump yesterday seen as the permanency of other parts of the arrangement, even you could hear him suggest trust would verify almost every single day. Do you have any doubts in your mind that we are going to be challenged over and over again with Turkey Holding off attending the bargain . We should never trust recent looked at the guys objective in life is to create a callow fate and to be the caliph. He had no intentions of abiding by the provisions of the ceasefire. In fact, there never was really a ceasefire. I just talked to a guy from syria yesterday and two guys from syria yesterday, actually, and they said even though the bombing stops, the Ground Campaign continued in certain areas so the turks never really stopped fighting when they were in this socalled ceasefire. I dont think urdu and has any intention whatsoever of stopping where he is right now. He is not going to stop until he has everything he has set out to get. Charles what does that mean for the kurds . It means theyre going to keep driving the kurds further south without only turkey but america will send the kurds a place for them to land and its going to be in the desert. If thats what one of those syrians told me yesterday. He cant drive them just so far south. I think the kurds are the losers in this whole thing along with america and look, as a soldier, im really distressed by the fact that we walked away from the kurds. They fall for their own homeland appeared we should never think that they were just doing it for us, but ill tell you, when they reemerge, when they resurface, we are going to have a hard time finding somebody to fight with us against isis. We do have Strategic Interests in that part of the world and part of it is countering the threat of isis. Charles are you saying that its a foregone conclusion isis will sort of reconstitute itself your . I think its just a matter of time until thats absolutely going to happen and its not all contingent upon all of the thousands of isis numbers getting out of the detention facilities there, look. Isis is an ideology. We have yet to counter the ideology and until we do that, isis is always going to be a threat. There are still thousands of isis in the world and in fact they are probably in 34 to 35 countries are now so dont think that isis is gone. He destroyed the caliphate. Donald trump, under his leadership, destroy the caliphate in that part of the world but it can come back very quickly and i think its only a matter of time until it well. Charles its tough to destroy an idea. General boykin, thank you very much for it always a pleasure talking with you. Christmas shopping . In october . The deals are already starting but will you be going a month. A month. Shark iq robot deepcleans and empties itself into a base you can empty once a month. Can you believe it . We will be back in 60 seconds. Charles we know you are going to shop online but iconic retail and nordstroms betting you are still waiting and willing to wait in line. Fox business number jackie allen juice is a new york city for a huge opening day. Jackie . Good afternoon to you. Thats right. While lots of people heard that brick and motor is dead, theres a lot of vibrancy in light here at nordstroms first new york city flagship store. This is a store thats not just about retail, obviously theres a lot here to buy, but its also about services and its about experience. You are getting an allinone package here. At least thats what the company is trying to do. Theres a lot of competition in a retail right now. People argue online retails, the amazons of the world, or the discount retailers like the t. J. Maxx is make it very hard for Department Stores to compete but whats interesting is, norstrom actually says that its the online sales in new york that made it designed that 320,000 squarefoot store, seven stories tall, listen to what they told me. We have a broad range. We are not just about the highend. Like i say, we carry from vance to valentino and its really how the modern customer shops. Its interesting because nordstrom is saying we came here because our online sales were so strong so we are making this a growth experience and trying to capitalize on this captive audience and also saying that its not just highend retail here, there is something for everyone from vans to valentino, the sales are pretty strong and when you bring me services and experiences together, the consumer really will walk in here and feel the loyalty that they say they feel for the nordstrom brand. Charles thank you very much. Nordstrom is betting dead on brickandmortar. Holiday shoppers are going to spend 4 more this year than they did last year but more and more about of course is going to be online so just what can we expect this season . Lets ask farah givens and keith herzog. You were the first one years ago to talk about omnichannel. But this is crazy. Seven stories tall, so unique, you can get blowouts in botox injection, and also several places to get food and beverage. Is everything under one roof. Its interesting. It was just over there and i did a little bit of a tour and youre right, it is seven stories but what i just found out is that they also ship in vip shoppers pay people were spending over 50,000 a year were flown to new york in order to shop with their personal shoppers who were also flown in and while you shop you are able to get food and drink delivered to you while you were trying on your vans and valentinos. They even have a martini bar on the shoe section shoe section. Charles what about for pronouns . Besides these high pollutant folks. I know its in new york city, but still. And the locations really good bid us a difference between this location and somethings like elizabeth taylor, this when she has hole. It certainly driving a lot of traffic. Eventually. Probably, it could. I think location is key, services are also very good, but the are also services at the highend that we like, we use. To your point with the online retail, yes, the online sales are superstrong and after they came out with the study that said they interviewed about 4,000 people, 15 of those people are going into Department Stores so what are the rest of the 85 of people doing . You mentioned like 1 out of 4 purchases of nordstroms a beverage or food. Charles after the close, root amazon report the numbers. The initial reaction is a nonmedicated disaster, stocked on more than 7 , and they got it lower for the fourth quarter. We mightve gotten a glimpse of this with that last retail number that came out. Interesting enough, internet was down. Is there something going on here . We changing perhaps as consumers, particularly as we have more money in our pocket . Amazon is a little bit out as an outlier because so much of business is also determined through the Amazon Web Services so over the past year, their business has been declining. They expected a 36 decrease in sales and with actually less than 30 so they are thats whats making these earnings really falter. Charles so this is not a proxy as for the American Consumer . Not really. Amazon didnt spend a lot of money making sure that prime was up and running t to a buddy also to take a look at the numbers on web services. Charles a few years ago, they could spend all the money on the infrastructure stuff and alt wall street was okay with that but they dont make any money now. I guess they have to really prove themselves quarter after quarter like everyone else. We were. Its the i want to switch gears here a moment. Up earlier Vice President pence delivered a speech on china still talking about especially when it comes to companies that are doing business over there. Take a listen. Far too Many American multinational corporations have cow chilled to the lure of chinas money. Nike promotes itself as a socalled social justice champion. But when it comes to hong kong, it prefers checking its social constants at the door. Charles your thoughts . Heres the thing with what is happening on the trade side of china. You are right. Corporations cant sit there and portrayed themselves as social justice warriors that yet capitalize on what is happening on the Chinese Consumer and still cry foul when trade positions have been imposed on them. With that said, the customer is going to the holiday season, they are price conscious for the prices have been baked into what people are going out and shop for this season so you are not going to see any Price Fluctuations and there for the president done mike customer is not going to respond. Charles really harsh critics of this administration, but people are offended at least by the reaction vowing to china. It could exactly have an impact on the business . Thats a good question. Charles still, you are the perfect person to ask this because i think the reaction in china and nike cut across both Political Parties read its not necessarily one party or another bit a lot of people were just simply offended that they wouldnt defend the First Amendment and one of their own defending the protesters in hong kong. So you guys dont think this is shortterm, short life, it wont be long term impact . You know, i think this is going to happen a lot more. Youre going to see more corporations come out with policies that about what they can and cant do what it comes to politics. By now its a bit of a freeforall. People are saying things and theres backlash but i think at the near future youre going to see policies come out. Still getting their wrap. At least just tell me its going to be a good christmas season. Good christmas season. Sales are up 3. 5 , maybe 4 . They are going to be good because consumers have jobs, wages are up, the markets at an alltime high, its a good time. And you can go shopping and drink a martini at the same time. Charles right. Thank you both. Speaking of spending, Student Loan Debt and the next big bailout and you could be on the hook for it. Huge, big time, next you know its an suv your family is duckin and rollin. Charles a top official at the department of education resigning today while endorsing a plan to cancel most of the Nation Student dont loan debt. Guess would split the bill . Add water and mud says the student loan price is real but plans to eliminate over a trillion dollars in Student Loan Debt is simply insane, especially when taxpayers will be on the hook. Thanks for joining the show, eduardo. How surprised are you that this is someone that betsy devos io picked to help the department of education, someone who was against the sort of things, now he rolls out a plan thats actually more forgiving then elizabeth warrens . Its shocking. The official who did this, wayne johnson, he got one thing right and that its the amount of Student Loan Debt that we have in this country is insane. But whats more insane into the solution to fix it. Jonathan thinks we should throw billions of dollars to eliminate the Student Loan Debt and as you mentioned before, thats more generous than those with warrens plan but it shows theres a great misunderstanding about how we got here in the first place. People think we can just throw more money in education and it will solve our problems but thats the very reason why tuition is so expensive in the first place and its because the government got its hands in it and so as you mentioned, at the end of the day, its going to be the taxpayers who split this bill and part of me wonders if johnson is just mentioning this because hes getting ready for a senate run and it just seems like he wants japan to put millennial rodeos who are now the largest voting bloc in the country. Charles okay so college debt was not even a factor back before the Great Recession but then the president obama sort of took out the middleman, if you will, and became sort of more or less rubberstamping these loans and these colleges started reald started building all these amazing, wonderful cab it on my campuses bear where it is responsibility, no because students and graduates are saying we are the victims so how do we find an elegant solution and find a way to actually curve this so its more in line with reality and inflation . Like you said, these colleges and universities have spent a ridiculous amount of money on their campuses come on and ministers come on useless classes, and we cover a lot of that at the leadingedge Ship Institute campus reform. But when you talk about responsibly, that lives with the individual and we are not seen that. Where to find the next generation, hey, you can live the high life, you can live with outside of your means, and the government will do it bail you out. For me personally, when i graduated high school, my parents sat me down and i got into some great outofstate schools but my parents a book, this is what its going to cost you. This is what youre going to be on the hook for, and prickly, we dont think its a good idea. So i made the risk financially responsible decision to go to an instate school and im better off for it and we should still students look, stay and instate schools. Pursue trade schools. There are plenty of trade jobs opening up right now and sometimes thats much better than taking out thousands of dollars in debt just to go to college.
