I would argue President Trump. People feel the difference in this economy versus what the democrats are saying. The democrats are focusing their argument on economic or income disparity. The rich are making too much and the poor are not making enough. Reality, weve seen wage growth grow 4 for the overall. Im particularly interested in women. Women have had a 10 wage growth this past year. Thats crazy. Right . Thats not even talking about the jobs going on. I dont know if what the democrats are talking about are what people are feeling back home. I have a hard time imagining their message will resonate along their liberal base. I remember joe bidens first speech. He says are you feeling the economy . The numbers are what they are. So now the question is, are you feeling it . Yeah, looks great. The markets are up. Are you in the market . The dems are going with things are pretty good for them, not for you. Thats the truth. Real wages have gone down the last were talking about the last couple years. They can run on the last 30 years, i guess. That Economic Growth is projected to be barely above 2 . So to sugar rush of the tax break has subsided. We have a situation where the top 400 americans make as much as the bottom. 150 million americans is outrageous. The average worker is not seeing the wages. The wages are stagnating because theyre going to folks at the top. Thats precisely where this country is going to look for another president next year. Thats interesting. In eight of the last ten months, nonsupervisory wages have outpaged other wages. Thats not happened in a decade. Pretty good momentum. Yeah, one of the most interesting things is the way we talk about economics is different. Republicans are appealing to the traditional things like deregulation. If youre a guy that is starting a business, you can pull youre self up. You can have Economic Opportunity and government wont get in your way. What progressives are countering with are the politics of envy. The idea that you may not pull yourself up but government will give you a boost. Well see which of these ideas are winning out especially with millennials entering the scene. Thats an interesting aspect. The millennials are this generation that is not going to be rewarded with the american, call it an accord, compact, whatever it is of the generation that does better than their parents because of student debt and other things. Thats where the greed things resonates. I know people doing extraordinarily well. Then you think about someone else is making a billion dollars a year. Politics of envy does work sometimes. Yeah, i think millennials graduated in a recession so theyre behind. They feel behind versus where their grandparents were. So its a real feeling. But the question is, will they actually want to support socialists policies or want to do they see or feel how the economy is doing well right now and give them what they need to succeed . Its an open question. Like i dont think its open. But do these policies work. Youre seeing candidates, medicare for all, new green deal, free, free, free. The idea is that millionaires and billionaires and corporations will pay for them. If you do the math, thats not the case. This is something that will fall back on the middle class. With the energy and climate policies, it was affect the low income americans. Shafar, on that note, ive always been told we vote for something rather than action something. So its one thing to say its an unfair system. What are the democratic politician that will make it less fair . We understand that markets are the engine of prosperity. We have to invest in public education. Many of these people that come out college have large amounts of debt. Theyre an albatross should the debt be forgiven we believe that first we need to hold down the costs of increase in colleges because of the increase outpacing inflation by large degrees. We have to does that mean bringing the middleman back in . Tuition skyrocketed after president obama got rid of the middleman. The banks look at applications and say we cant lend you 200,000 for poetry degrees. They have had a lot of predatory lending that president obama cut back on that this administration has opened the flood gates for, which is preying upon working families. This isnt about envy. Nobody is upset i think im asking what plan . Theres several there. But they all lurch very left and a form of socialism is. That the there are no democrats that are democrats. Bernie sanders isnt really a democrat. Theres no democrat that believes in a socialist model. Im not sure about that. Look at bernie and his advisers track record. What they have advocated is straight socialism. What is socialism . How do you explain that . I think President Trump everybody feels great about where they are. Theyre feeling good about where they are financially, which was a huge driver. Because they feel good, now theyre looking at other things in their lives that they want to improve upon. Healthcare, transportation, some of these Kitchen Table issues. They dont feel like what President Trump is talking about at this moment is where they are and what they want. So hes going to have a strong baseline from the economy that he can launch into some of these other options that they want to talk more about and he will see his numbers increase after that. You also have credit card companies, mastercard, visa, that are flying sky high. These stocks are going to remain strong. If we do get a dip, im going to continue to buy them. We had a dip in may. It was one of the worst in a long time and followed by the best june. The best june in 80 years. So the volatility might be back to garys point, feels like investors are grappling with the reason for the market to go higher. Yes, heres the one thing with the market, which is why i think people can be bullish for the rest of the year, is theres not that euphoric state at this particular time. Youre not seeing that euphoric moment with investors. Theres down side in the short term because of the fed. I dont think theyll reduce rates. The inversion of the yield curve may have people spooked. I believe buying the dip is the play for 2019. I believe we will finish higher than where we are right now. Since you and i were in great school it seems, charles. I think its all going to depend on the china tariffs. I dont think the tariffs have that much an effected on our total gdp. There was an article in the wall street journal that individual companies are negotiating directly with china to get around the tariffs. That being said, i think you will see in the outlook that it will improve the bottom line. So if that goes away, i think youll see at least slightly better earnings outlooks. That alone might raise the market. Im still skeptical if it translates into actual bottom line numbers. Charles danielle and eddie mentioned a dip. Danielle, what are you concerned about that would cause that dip in the first place . What were seeing over the past few times where the s p has made new highs, particularly if you look at january 2018, september 2018 and then again in may of 2019, what happens is you just kind of have a petering out of momentum where theres just not enough people left to buy. What happens is overnight, theres some type of surprise move, you get the first gap down and the selling starts. So weve seen that pattern a few times. I have my eye out looking for it. When it does happen like the gentleman said, im looking to buy. For people that are not as nimble as you and daniel, would it be Worth Holding since you expect the market to subsequently rally . If hes seen as not being the one that can beat President Trump, that could hurt him and have a spiralling effect. But you know, the democrats are this is a problem for the democrats. Theres so many of them in the field, two dozen. That that spreads the dollars out among the field. She took on joe biden. So it is interesting to see the surge in the two women, especially following the 2018 midterms when women were the driving force between democrats success there. Charles its interesting. To what youre saying, they have to convince themselves. They told the world it was about young people, about women, about blacks and hispanics. And then the initial polls came out and two old white guys at the top. The image makers, the folks trying to do the spin, must be relieved that maybe it will be a woman and maybe that can make up for hillary clinton. Right. Two competing narratives here with the democratic party. Its moving left, young, more diverse. But then on the other hand, theres been the faction of the party that says hey, we need to nominate somebody that represents this section of the party where the energy is. As we saw just earlier this week, opec agreed to extend production cuts. Thats where this comes into play. The u. S. The Worlds Largest producer, but opec still has some weight as now with russia they control about 44 Million Barrels a day. So i would say without the u. S. Robert mueller will appear before the house judiciary committees. So what can we expect . What if anything will come out of these hearings . Lets ask the washington examiners emily larson. Emily, a lots of people hoping for something finally after all of this time. But you know, mueller last time we heard from him said were not going to get anything. Yeah, certainly he made it very clear in his press conference in may. Mueller thinks that his report is his testimony. So i think what well see a lot of is a lot of nothing when it comes to him being pressed on details of the report. We could get some interesting tidbits, a lot of questions that havent been answered, particularly democrats want to know whether mueller really thinks once and for all that congress should move forward with impeachment hearings. Republicans have a lot of Unanswered Questions like the steele dossier and how much that factored in the record, whether muellers team looked into it. Well see a lot of details on that. Charles both side will ask questions in a way for the most part, they wont be questions but more than likely statements that they would like mueller to nod in agreement. Is this the last chance for the democrats to corral any sort of enthusiasm for impeachment proceedings . Its very important for democrats to move forward with this step before they do move forward with impeachment. Theyre trying to make the case that we need to investigate everything, we need to look into everything that mueller said, clarify any questions, see what his opinion is. At this point, the election is looming in 2020. Its unlikely that the democrats will move forward with impeachment proceedings. Theres not much of an appetite for it. Theres some that want to move forward. Its a messy process and i think after they move forward with this, its going to die down with this. Charles certainly has to be a bomb shell and theres no evidence that anything like that is lurking out there. Yesterday, were awaiting on separated reports, the i. G. Report and other investigations spurred on by barr himself. Any idea when we get that information . That feels like it could be fresh and get us to the origins of all of this in the first place. Yeah, we dont know. These investigations take a long time. Going back to the mueller report, one of the key questions that republicans will be asking, mueller had all of these subpoenas and pretty much stopped giving them last year but yet took him until the beginning of this year to tell us the details of the report. So with these investigations, they take a long time. Im sure that they will drag on and perhaps through the election. Charles you get a sense it dragged on because mueller was trying to a degree to even justify the probe in the first place . Millions were spent and for the most part they came up with a dry hole. That is a question that republicans will be asking, particularly whether there were some people on muellers team that were pushing for mueller to look more into obstruction of justice issues, which made up a very huge part of the reports and wasnt part of the scope of it. A 2020 president ial hopeful, Bernie Sanders wants it but the question is how will he pay for it . Raise taxes for the middle class in the sanders administration. People who have healthcare under medicare for all will have no premiums, no deductibles, no copayments, no out of pocket expenses. Yes, they will pay more taxes. Charles a new poll showing a majority of americans would be okay with higher taxes for a National Healthcare plan. My next guest thinks that is a costly mistake. Jan is here with us. She joins us. Jan, where do you think this is going . Are you shocked that more americans are saying it might not be a bad trade off . Theres a question of what is the value. Ohio wants to see good care given to all americans throughout the united states. So that is important to us. The question is, how important is it . Is it worth 32 trillion . A really big price tag. Charles theres two things t quality of healthcare and the idea that everybody would get free healthcare. We think about these models around the world. We would hear how great they are except theres long lines for things that we take for granted here and the quality is not up to snuff. Rich people in country with free healthcare come to america for the critical stuff. Thats one of the things that we need to think about. Is it medicare for all or medicare for those that want it, right . Lets not impose it. Thinking about medicare for all, what it would do . Allow the providers, they would be forced to accepting the medicare premium and payment amount. A lot of them would go out of business. So healthcare is going to go down in quality and your taxes will go up. That doesnt seem like a great solution. Charles doesnt seem great. But the debates, second night, the question was asked. A lot of people say yeah, okay. The majority of democrats are on board with some form of this. Bernie sanders finally admitting, yes, youre going to pay. Not just the millionaires but the middle class will pay. Something is emboldening him to be more honest about this. I think theres the perception but if you break it down, theres not that big of a problem. We have a lot of solutions right now. 155 Million People are covered by their employer plans and theyre relatively robust coverage fantastic. 12 million covered under the aca. 28 Million People uninsured. Of those 28 million, thats what were talking about here. Almost half of them are aca subsidy eligible and medicaid eligible. So when you get down to it, its about 15 Million People that need an affordable solution. Lets not throw out the 155 million that are happy. Charles aca is obama care. Yes. Charles that was supposed to be the solution. We have about 28 million uninsured before and now still 28 million. So some of these states that many say might got the first year the federal government paid and now they have to pay. Some are saying expand obamacare or expand aca. Is that an alternative here . Its one potential solution. So what happens with aca, we just provided really rich benefits. Were enjoying them. But what that meant is it costs a lot. So some people that say, i dont want it. I dont need it. What if we offered a plan that kind of scaled that back . We said catastrophic coverage. That might be more affordable and attractive to the public. The one issue, they tried to get the people not wanting to buy it. Do you punish americans who dont want to buy that Expensive Health insurance that you just talked about . A 22yearold. When i first started out in the business, the first couple years, i had a young daughter. I rolled the dice. I went without healthcare for two years. Yeah. Theres more solutions than just Health Insurance in this healthcare reform debate. The president just came out with the executive order for pricing transparency for hospitals. Charles will that help . I think it will. When aca came out, they said you have to post the calorie couldnt on restaurants that have more than ten locations. We thought it was a joke. Its crazy. Now when you go to starbucks and you see 200 calories for the frappuccino, makes you think twice, right . Charles and you order it because you say you wont drink the whole thing. Basically by 3 37 p. M. They should have had that and it never happened so that alert di in fact expire. Theyre are no pending emergenc alerts right now however officials have warned of many aftershocks in fact earlier we heard there have been hundreds of aftershocks. We also got some interesting statistics that there is a 90 percent chance of any kind of aftershock above a fivepoint o magnitude.
