Campaign was spied on. Welcome. Im neil cavuto. This is your world. Kristin fisher with the latest. Kristin . Hi, neil. Right now President Trump is wrapping up that meeting with the Deputy Attorney general, rod rosen stein and the director Christopher Wray. Were told that this was a prescheduled meeting, a meeting scheduled before the president s tweet this week. A Senior Administration official has confirmed that the concerns that President Trump brought up in those tweets, concerns able a possible fbi informant infiltrating his campaign, those concerns were absolutely brought up in this meeting today, which just wrapped our should be wrapping up any moment now. The tweeted that started it yesterday, President Trump demanded that the department of justice look into whether or not they infiltrated or surveyed the Trump Campaign for political purposes and if any u. S. Demands or requests were made by people within the Obama Administration. 4 hours later, the doj responded by asking the Inspector General to expand a probe to accommodate the president s requests. Thats one investigation. As for the special counsels investigation, rudy guliani is claiming that muellers team told them that they would wrap up the investigation of justice investigation by september 1 and if he can interview the president by mid july. The president s team is whether an interview would do more harm than good. If the president can put this behind him by september one by sitting down with questions that he can answer, that would be a good thing. Now a source familiar with the investigation has told reuters made up the deadline. This source says its effort by the president s legal team specifically by rudy guliani to pressure the special counsel to wrap up his investigation before hes ready, neil. Neil thanks very much. Meantime, Martha Mccowan just wrapped up an interview with the Vice President of the United States. And this meeting did come up. With the revelations that our campaign may have been the subject of surveillance by the fbi, the president i think is grateful that the department of justice is going to have the Inspector General look into it and determine and ensure that there was no surveillance done for political purposes against our campaign. I think it would be very troubling to millions of americans if that took place. Were very confident that as the Inspector General has been doing their work looking at the conduct of the fbi during that period that by adding their focus to this that well get to the bottom of it. The American People have a right to know. Neil you have a right to see the full interview the president had with martha. Thats on the story a little more than three hours from now. Right now, we have andy here with us on the house judiciary committee. Congressman, good to have you with us. Is this individual an spy . If hes not a spy, an undercover operative. So yeah. Neil so if the president is meeting with the fbi director and Rod Rosenstein and this was about a week ago, that would it be proper for him to pound this with them and to recommend the investigation he has at least been tweeting about . Absolutely it is. I think that he paid have some other things on his agenda, but i think this revelation thats come out, he has to take it home and he has to find out what Christopher Wray and Rod Rosenstein are going to do about it. Quite frankly, im hoping you call it a powwow, put the pow and the wow into this thing. He has to drive it home that we need to know what our agencies are doing to impact the election. If theyre here hiring people and embedding them for political purposes that is corruption at the highest level and that needs to be prosecuted. Neil do you think the president should be careful how he frames this in his discussions with mr. Rosenstein and the fbi director and that it could have the look of trying to exert his own personal influence on the Justice Department and the fbi . He has to be careful but we have to remember that these agencies are within the executive branch. Hes the head. All things run through him. He needs to make sure that theyre running independent. If water going to a Inspector General or do a Second Special counsel, that moves to independence. Thats what needs to happen. Of course, he cant get in there and tell them how to conduct their investigation. Hes become a victim and hes got a right to come to these guys and say, look, i was victimized it looks like. You need to find that out. Neil in the on going Inspector General is looking into these matters world there be any harm in not getting a separate investigation going but adding it to what hes looking at . The on only problem with that, at some point they run out of time and energy and hands that can do the work. You just keep adding on to this. This is one of the most complex things that ive seen where you drop out almost every week, theres something new. I think a completely independent counsel should be looking at what the democrats did. They need to also look at what happened here with the fbi and the doj did. I just dont think that the Inspector General needs to add this to his load right now. Neil all right, congressman. Thank you for taking the time. I appreciate it, sir. Thanks, neil. Neil and emily companyo is here. Thanks for sorting this out. The president has serious grieve conveniences given the dozen or so tweets on this matter. Hes furious. He has every right to be. Is it risky meeting with the fbi director and the Deputy Attorney general and this matter comes up . Were told that this meeting was already scheduled and he can bring up anything he wants. If they want to table something for a later discussion, thats their prerogative. At this point, what more does he have to live in this . Were hearing this verbal bullet warfare between former cia director. So at this point it behooves him to say this is what the doj needs to do, the investigation that needs to occur. At this point theyre reading between redacted line. It would behoove us to have an investigation that we can rely on. We dont know if its truthful. Rick would investigators share that with the president . How do we know that the fbi director maybe to a lesser extent, Rod Rosenstein are not on this and recommending the Inspector General add this to his list to explore . He did this weekend. Thats one thing to look forward to. Regardless, even if he hasnt, we know he will. The information needs to be transparent. What information has to be transparent . The results of this investigation. Anything that they uncover. In fact, even just before this, we had someone saying look, every day something new occur. All we we dont even have a full i. G. Report. So thats what neil thats something that maybe theyre talking about getting in addition to what the i. G. Has looked at. This question is more basic. Can the president say to the fbi director, director, you must investigate this. Can he say to Rod Rosenstein, you must investigate this. Is there any risk in the president of the United States doing that . The doj is part of the executive branch. Neil i understand. So he can direct them to investigate. Its incumbent on them to initiate that investigation. Neil i want to be super clear. Just at the behest of the president , they might look at this in some other way that hes putting extreme pressure on this. If others say that hes within his rights to do that, that doesnt look like a real powerful force, really, really convincingly trying to get across the idea, it would be a really good idea for you to do this . He can absolutely call and order an investigation. Hes not saying i order you to conclude this. Hes saying i order you to investigate. Neil he can do that. Im sorry. He can order them . Im ordering you to do something on this. If they refuse . Then thats a much larger problem. Congress can do it. Anyone can call for an investigation or hearings. Again, its when you call for a certain result or conclusion where theres issues. So to me, its a larger problem that we have certain elected officials saying theres no way we should do this. Adam schiff says its nonsense. Thats a larger issue if you automatically conclude something without the investigation. The investigation is what is neutral here. So he has the right to ask, they have the right to refuse or put off. They do not have they wouldnt have the right to refuse. They work at the behest of the president. Thats part of the executive power. Its what they uncover. Its what they uncover in the investigation. Theres nothing here. Theres no truth to this, then that would be fine. Neil got it. Emily, thank you. By the way, now were on to iran and whats going on with the secretary of state. Mike pompeo vowing that were not going to have a nuclear iran ever. Rich edson has more. Less than two weeks after the president with drew from the deal, secretary of state mike pompeo is addressing the administrations outline. The secretary of States Strategy is similar to what the administration is doing with north korea. They call it the same thing, a Pressure Campaign designed to change irans behavior. The sanctions will be painful if the regime does not change their course to one that joins the league of nations. These will end up being the strongest sanctions in history when were complete. Secretary pompeo warned European Companies conducting business with iran that the United States would penalize them if they continued that business. He detailed the list of a dozen u. S. Demandses like demantling nuclear work, releasing detained americans and ending the support for middle east middle and the groups. If iran does so, the u. S. Is willing to suspend sanctions and a chance to modernize their economy. In response, irans foreign minister said the diplomacy is a sham and detamed by special corrupt interests and well reep the same ill rewards. And pompeii you promises that the United States will confront iran by building a coalition and the state department will work with the department of defense to try to locate and root out iran proxies and operatives around the world. In mike pompeos words, crush them. Neil . Neil thanks, rich edson at the state department. A good day for stocks because it was a good day for, well, thinking that we can score a trade deal with the chinese, without going into a trade war. It worked today. Did the trick today. What will happen beyond today . After this. We had a vacation that kinda put us in a hole. Had a little incident with a moped in bermuda. Oh. Even with insurance, we had to dip into our 401 k and it set us back a little bit. Sometimes you dont have a choice. But it doesnt mean you guys cant get back on track. Great. Great. Yeah. No judgment. Just guidance. Td ameritrade. Just another day on the farm. Or is it . This farmers morning starts in outer space. Where satellites feed infrared images of his land into a system built with ai. He uses watson to analyze his data with millions of weather forecasts from the cloud, and iot sensors down here, for precise monitoring of irrigation. Its a smart way to help increase yields, all before the rest of us get out of bed. How much money do you think youll need in retirement . Then we found out how many years that money would last them. How long do you think well keep oooooohhh you stopped youre gonna leave me back here at year 9 . How did this happen . It turned out, a lot of people fell short, of even the average length of retirement. We have to think about not when we expect to live to, but when we could live to. Lets plan for income that lasts all our years in retirement. Prudential. Bring your challenges. Neil were up 300 points on the dow. A lot of issues at the mercy of what happened on this trade front with china like boeing and caterpillar. They soared on the prospects that the chinesely buy more goods for us and that will do the trick. The thought of no trade war started a buying war at the corner of wall and broad. Charlie gasparino is here and melissa. What are they whipping up about, you think . The market or neil your money loving friends. The only rally was boeing. That was the big rally. The stock ended up at alltime highs. Even apple had a small rally. Neil how much is china playing into this . Its definitely playing into it. Some relief that we wont have a trade war. Neil you said eminent. Well see what happens. This is a temporary suspension. The market reacting positively to that. Its predictable. The is was iced out of these meetings. Neil was he . Yes. Despite what larry kudlow said. Neil hes the march hawkish trieder. Yeah. He wants to he thought the president ed erred and blamed it on mnuchin and the sanctions put zte out of business. They should they deserved it. Mnuchin convinced trump to use that as a bargaining chip. Trump said we got a huge deal. Bigger than anything. I know its coming. Theyre going to get almost nothing and were going to avert a trade war which the markets will like in the short term. Anything that neil you dont think this division between the parties at the white house will mount to much more its less navaro neil i think theyre trying to keep it going for the north korean talks. And this is not over. Neil so what happens . They get through the talks. They go through june. That actually happens, hopefully. Neil you have to see substancive different in the trade gap. Thats what the president wants. I dont think its over. I dont think trump has given up. Neil theyre committed to buying more goods. No. The trade deficit is a distraction. I was president a fan neil i understand that. But china says theyre going to buy more goods. We want the deficit to go down. That is saving face. The really important issues are not getting address. Thats china being a bad actor. Making small concessions on deficits you have the midterms. Hes crazy if he wants to go into a midterm with a trade war that takes 3,000 points outs of the dow. Neil breaking news here. Gold had its worst day of the year. The dollar had one of its better days of the year. More after this. This is a story about mail and packages. And its also a story about people and while we make more ecommerce deliveries to homes than anyone else in the country, we never forget. That your business is our business the United States postal service. Priority you its just a burst pipe, i could fix laugh no. With claim rateguard your rates wont go up just beacuase of a claim. I totally couldve. wife nope switching to allstate is worth it. Rick were a little more than a half an hour away from Santa Fe High School officials only not only the damage is done and the horror is done, ten people killed, a dozen injured, but why 17yearold Dimitrios Pagourtzis did what he did. We just dont know. We know that he fits what has been a remarkably consistent pattern among those who launch into these attacks. Doesnt scarlet lewis know it. Her son, jesse, was 6 years old when he was killed at sandy hook elementary and saved students lives by telling them to run. Incredible. I told scarlet during the break, she could have rolled herself into a ball, stuffed herself in a corner and ignored the world and shed be justified. But you told me something very profound. Not an option. Not an option. I knew i had to be part of the solution. Its really amazing to me how many of the victims parents are. Neil they are. I know you saw this again as you saw the case in florida, saw it so many times since your horrific disaster that you experienced. The worst of the school shootings. They almost fit a character type, dont they . All School Shooters are disconnected, theyve isolated themselves, they lack resilience, they lash emotional intelligence, they lack the ability to make responsible decisions and interestingly enough, all of these skills and tools are exactly what our taught within social and Emotional Learning. So thats been what i advocate for for the past five years. Teaching kids these skills and tools that are not innate within us. Were not born with them. We have to learn them. Neil theres some that cant be taught. You realize that there were no cues with this teen. There was maybe a relationship with a woman that went awrong and maybe that was the trigger event. Certainly in the case of nikolas cruz in florida, he was part of the system that would take kids that are ignored or overlooked and they would try to work with them and it boomeranged. I think that even if the child has aspergers, it makes a difference in the culture and the climate and classroom and school. Teenagers different. Do you spy on them . Do you look at what theyre doing . Theres criticism of how nikolas cruz parents or the people he was staying with, not know what he was doing. How did this parents shooters not know what he was building in this trailer . There was a reluctance, we tend not to scrutinize our kids or get in their way. We give them latitude. What do you think of that . I know adam lanza barricaded himself in his basement bedroom for 18 months, put plastic bags on his window and communicated with his mother through a padlock door. Thats not normal. We need to be connected with our kids. The interesting thing is, you have to learn how to have healthy relationships, how to be resilient to overcome things that happen in your life. How to make how to identify label, manage and express emotions. If you dont learn them, you dont have to have them. Some parents arent able to give what they dont have. In other words, like social, Emotional Learning could benefit all of us. Five years ago when i started researching what a solution would be to these school shootings, how to proactively prevent them, i realized that i didnt really have a lot of these skills and tools. Ive learned them over the past five years. Neil i find that hard to believe. Let me ask you, sandy hook, were there any protections in place or was that the only entrance an outsider could get in the school . I think sink point entries are important. You know what though . We tend to focus on external Safety Measures when we talk about safe schools. Those are very important obviously. We have to focus on those today. But there is one thing that we overlook president that is the internal safety measure. So the external Safety Measures, shooter protocols, anything like that, they dont address the why neil and in case of florida, after that tragedy, they raised the age in which you can purchase a gun and automatic weapons at 21. Those ages with in place in texas. He had a stolen gun. What do you think of those type of measures . They do dont proactively prevent a child there wanting to come in and harm an educator. Neil youre saying i caught that quote of yours in a prior interview. Someone intend on doing it can do it. So im wondering, whether you reign in guns or look at lock down schools, make them more difficult to just get into, if youre not known there, what do you do . My point is, you look at the cause of why a child wants to go into a school and harm an educator or another student. You address the cause. The cause is lack of social and emotional intelligence. Lack of ability to manage emotions. Lack of resilience. Neil but thats everywhere. Those kids are everywhere. I was talking to a number of people over the weekend that are opposed to the easy access to guns. They immediately said we have to reign in 300 million out there. They have to reign them in. What are your thoughts on that . Im talking about proactive preventi prevention. Im talking about proactively preventing them before they start. Stopping the suffering before it begins. We know that through decades of Research Social Emotional Learning proactively prevents violence but substance abuse, Mental Illness of all kinds. Incarcerati incarceration. Neil this is the latest. Eight kids and two teachers. Im wondering, would it have made a difference if guns were tough tore get . I have advocates saying they can get to the root and that cause but we make it easy fore these crazies to get the guns. You say what . I say theres so many people working on that issue. And that my focus, my sole focus has been the internal Safety Measures and that you cannot have a comprehensive School Safety plan without addressing those internal Safety Measures. You think its too late . Were detached from a lot of people. We dont listen to our kids. A lot of parents and teens say i cant be bothered. Its never too late. I have a south in south kingston, rhode island that is doing the choose love program. Theyre inviting seven other schools to learn about all of the benefits that theyre feeling. These are high schoolers. Its never too late. Neil amazing. Scarlet lewis, an amazing story. She could have dropped out of society. She wants to save it. Not a bad idea these days. More after this. So he got home safe. Yeah, my dad says our insurance doesnt have that. What . you can leave worry behind when liberty stands with youâ„¢. Liberty mutual insurance. Neil its probably republicans Worst Nightmare in West Virginia. A state that they think they can take from democratic incumbent. Now one of those that lost is running in a third party. Uhoh neil i think the blankenship has hit the fan, no pun intended. Don blankenship that lost the West Virginia republican primary is going to run as a thirdparty candidate. That could money that joe manchin could squeak in and remain a democratic seat. We have katie here with us and former Ohio Democratic state senator, capri cafaro. This could change the dynamics. What do you think . No question about it. Theres a number of hurdles that blankenship will have to come through for him to get on the ball lot. He has to have signatures to get him on as a thirdparty candidate. He could be sued under the sore loser law. Neil yeah, i didnt think it was possible. But the way hes going about it, he could do it that confused me. Bottom line if he pulls it off, theres no question that he turns into a spoiler that will split the antidemocrat pro trump vote and really conned hand the seat back to joe manchin. This is really not good news for the republican establishment, nor the republicans being able to hold on to that seat in West Virginia. Weve heard from others saying he didnt fare that well. The people would ether vote for him on the nominee of the attorney general are more inclined to vote republican anyway. What do you think . I think thats correct. At the same time, he is going to draw a way a certain number of voters. He will injected discord and chaos. He will be a roy moore and thats not what republicans need to they manchins senate seat. If you have the chance when you have effectively 50 seats in the senate with senator mccain in arizona, you need to effectively take this away. Blankenship could ruin that. And i dont know how polling is going in the state. Manchin is in the race of his life. I was trying to play this own in my own head and thinking if he does manage to get on a third party ballot, he will demand attendance at debates. If im joe manchin, saying if hes not included, i dont want to go there. It could create a drama. It could be the republicans worst night nightmare. Attorney general morrisey is dealing manchin by two. Its one of the five true realistic pickups that republicans have in the United States senate. So essentially if blankenship wins out, beats the sore loser laws, 1 or 2 taken away from morrisey will hand it to manchin in a state that republican won by 20 points. Neil and in the house, they still talk a blue wave. The republicans have a very good shot at increasing their margin in the senate. Even with this, do they not . Its interesting. I just recently read an article talking about i believe it was from the associated press. It said in 2012, Claire Mccaskill was on the ballot. She pulled it out there. Shes another one that is on the fence, fighting for her leaf in this circle. Because barack obama is not on the ballot, theyre basically projecting the African American vote that has traditionally voted democratic will sit at home. They could have made the difference for Claire Mccaskill in 2012. They wont be there in 2018. Thats one example of a place where turnout will make all the difference in whether or not democrats can pick up or ride some kinds of a theoretical blue wave, which i think is more of a blue trickle. Katie, in order to get a blue wave, people have to be in a mood for a momentous shift. If the economy is seemed to be better than it was and the view of peoples own sense of personal value is better than it was, job security better than it was, job security for their kids better than it was, maybe were missing something here. They are. Democrats dont have a message. They didnt have one during the election. They learned nothing. On top of that, no one wants the message to be were going to impeach the president. Everything is awful and the commit is terrible when none of that is true. I dont think they have a lot going for them. The first round of polls came out showing that the democratic edge in the midterms is within the margin of error now. Their lead has been slimming. This isnt looking good for them especially when theyre so disorganized. Rick what do republicans have to do . Basically republicans have to fire up their base, not hack off independent voters, put up great candidates in the other races like north dakota. What i wouldnt say to republicans, if they hold the house and make gains in the senate, it will be because of the Economic Economic boon. Theres no one size fits all plan. They might need to supplement their message. Two independents agree with republicans on and they fire up the republican base. Neil a blue wave is way too soon. Well watch it. Thanks very much. Thank you. Neil a volcano in hawaii is getting worse. It is getting more stunning. It is looking increasingly like a Science Fiction movie. Only this is not a movie. This is real. Its getting real worrisome. Ey d ey d was are you ok . they always thank you for your service, which is nice because as a spouse you serve too. Were the hayles and were usaa members for life. A lot of lava creating a new threat in hawaii after reaching the pacific ocean. Apparently it sends up toxic fumes and glasslike particles in the air. Physicists michael joins us. For those in the immediate area, i know officially, you know, the hawaiian agencies and the like said theres no problem here. You can fly here. No concern about landing at any of the other islands, even the big island. For residents in the immediate local, what is it like . The headline for them right now, neil, kilauea is a triple threat. 2 1 2 weeks ago, it started oozing very thick, slowmoving lava out of cracks that surround kilauea, especially to the east and slightly north. After that it started spewing sulfur dioxide, a poisonous gas. Over the weekend, lava has moved into the ocean. When that happens, you have fire basically meeting water and the Hydrogen Chloride in the magma when it meets the sea water creates hydrochloric acid that is going in the area. These poor people have it coming at them in three different fronts and they have to be very careful. Neil how wide is the danger area, michael . You know, the plume of hydrochloric acid is more than a mile. From my experience in covering volcanos, its the immediate southeast part of hawaii. I covered another one in 1991. That was a much more explosive volcano. Kilauea is a shielded lava that oozes lava. Explosive. In 1991, the stuff got so high in the air got in the stratosphere and cooled down the earth. I dont see that happening now. The effects of kilauea will be confined to that region of hawaii. So those people there in the Geothermal Power plant, they have to be careful and vigilant. The scientists have told people just you never know when its going to go. We have to see, were better at predicting volcanos than other natural disasters like earthquakes. Thats a plus. Neil its a beautiful state. What do you think of visitors . Id stay away from the Southeast Region of hawaii. Ive been on the island many times. You can fly in to the other parts. The other three quadrants. Neil so theyre not affected. Perfectly safe. Not really. You have to worry about staying understood wind of the hydrochloric acid and is sulfur dioxi dioxide. Its a beautiful idea. Neil indeed it is. It was a beautiful description of everything going on. Physic michael guillen. And were getting more on this president with the president and Deputy Attorney general, fbi director. Based on the meeting with the deputy general, the current investigation has been asked to expand with any irregularities with with the Trump Campaign. Asked that john kelly will set up a meeting with the fbi, doj and others with congressional leaders to review highly classified and other information that they have requested. All of this the genesis to an investigation that uncovered an operative, a spy, a mole, whatever you want to call it, within the Trump Campaign during the 2016 campaign in the fall of 2016. Others are saying its no big deal. That wasnt a spy. Wasnt an operative. But it was a person that wasnt supposed to be there. Now they want to find out what the hell he was doing there. I hate that. But i do know hes a great author and a great friend of whats going on in society. Charles payne making money. Why is starbucks doing this . Starbucks boxed themselves into this. They were at the forefront of this. Howard schultz still has president ial ambitions. He has this habit of telling people what to do. Neil this was prompted by a big mistake. Sure. But they set themselves up though. Its a conscious of the world. Were going to do everything, shareholders come last, its about the environment and the people. Instead of running a common sense business neil and these guys have problem getting access to a simple bathroom. Now whether you buy something there or not. What could go wrong . We know people are worried, loitering and that kind of stuff. I go by the one in times square every day. I dont know a lot of Homeless People that want to camp out there. Its terrible. Im not trying to diss themselves or something. If two guys come in, let them sit down. Smell the aroma. Neil would you let anyone in . If i had a coffee shop neil youre making a judgment call. Yeah. Neil and beautiful seemed to be a racial call. Inconsistentsy. The same people that were giving us cups and asking us questions about racial bias, they put their employees in a difficult position. Neil now here we are in manhattan, people say say we can go to starbucks. Whats going on now . Weve heard the worst case scenarios. I dont know if the homelessness will camp out there. Theyre worried about drug users. I dont know that anything will change. What they have done, they have exposed themselves and this culture of finger wagging that management at these corporations neil what about the snooties that pay 800 for a coffee . Theyre going to say wait a minute. As a special experiment, i looked inside and theres a woman with her own coffee. Maybe shes a difficult new yorker but i took a picture of it. She brought her own coffee. Neil its cheaper than this stuff. And you can lock yourself in a corner here. They have. Now they have to tweak it. They tweaked it twice today. Going to keep tweaking it. Neil and Still Closing stores next week, right . I guess the racial bias thing. The bottom line is treat people with common sense and the right way. Neil if you walked in there and wouldnt let you use the rest room because youre African American they couldnt get my money. Theres a major store that discriminated me against me and my family in soho on halston street amount big chain. We had our dog that passed away saturday, milo. We were going to go in. They said no dogs. And i looked inside. There was a white couple with a dog. We needed something in new jersey. The salesperson was so nice. We bought a Million Dollars of stuff. Its about how you treat people. Neil youre right. I wouldnt like to be them. Charles payne, thanks. Making money. A little more than an hour from now.
