Respond in kind. Tit for tat, trade war. Sell off of stocks. Where is all of this going and what about the timing . John roberts at the white house. John . I didnt think this was going to come down today. No, well get to that in just a second. Lets look at the impact. The dow is down further than it is now. Earlier today, down well over 500 points. We started hearing from americas allies. All the talk is this is aimed at china. Theres other big steel producers that sell to the United States, germany, the u. K. , canada. Canada said any tariffs said would be unacceptable. I got a statement from britain that said were particularly concerned by any measures that would impact the u. K. Steel and aluminum industries. Rob portman said he was concerned that the president came out with the notion of tariffs before any particulars were decide. Were any products or Country Baseball exempted. I put that to Sarah Sanders this afternoon. Was he concerned about the effects of his announcement . The president is concerned about the men and women that have been forgotten about. The industries that the country was founded and built on. This shouldnt come as a surprise. This is something that the president has been talking about for decades. Something that he talked about regularly on the campaign trail and something that he is delivering on, making that clear today. Those details and that actual announcement and signing will take place next week. So Sarah Sanders insisting this shouldnt have come to a surprise. Its true. It was on the campaign trail. The president talked about the effects of steel and aluminum products being dumped into the United States, particularly singling out china. The fact that it happened today is a big surprise. We went in the morning with an inkling from the white house that they would announce the sanctions. Then they said they wouldnt do it, probably next week. And then i talked to somebody with the treasury after the meeting the president had and then the president came out and said he would be slapping the tariffs. Heres the explanation and the rationale for what he said during that meeting today. Listen. You like the tariffs that were talking about, you like the tariffs where there wouldnt be dumping on our country. They dump massive amounts of product in our country and it just kills and destroys our companies and jobs and its been happening for so many year. Were not the beneficiary. You pointed out beneficiaries are the Steel Companies and certainly they appear to like it. Listen here. Speaking for the Steel Industry, were convinced well see quick action and definitive action and long lasting. We have not received any specifics, were confident it will be a good conclusion and happen quickly. The president still has a week to make some tweaks before he announces the tariffs. They hope the president changes his mind and goes in a different direction before next week. Senator pat toomey says look, we have laws in place to combat dumping. Use those laws effectively. Changing course from this approach by invoking National Security is a means of imposing new huge tariffs on all kinds of imported steals she a big mistake and cost our countries jobs and invite retaliation from other countries. The big reason the president is doing this, the sake only National Security. We need a Steel Industry. If were at war with china, who are we going to buy steel from . China . Neil thanks, john roberts. Well speak to another ceo and his take on that. First, deidra bolton on the fallout from this. Wall street abhors this sort of thing outside of the industries involved because it wreaks of something that could get bigger, right . It certainly does, neil. Most of that theme is higher prices. Then you have to worries about inflation. That is part of what we saw with this market selloff today. Take a look at the dow. The president said the u. S. Would place higher tariffs on steel. The Commerce Department did a study and recommended some levels. But the president s plan goes further than that. The Commerce Department talked about a 24 tariff if it happened and a 7 tariff if it happened on imported aluminum. The president s plan stronger than what the Commerce Department showed. This fear showed up in stocks and bonds. Yields going up near fouryear highs and the dow components that youre see, caterpillar and boeing, components of the dow, being that as prices go up, its bad for everybody unless you own a steel mill. Some of the other industries specifically that have voiced concern sourcing, farmers. American farms produce so much and send and sell so much soy to china. American distilleries sell bourbon to europe. These are just two industries that are fearful about a potential trade war. President trump has implied in the past that benefits of knew trade limits will out weigh the costs. That remains to be seen. Perhaps the president is just starting the conversation and this is his way of negotiating. Back to you. Neil thanks, deidra. And mike is here with us from century aluminum. He was in on the meetings with the president. Good to see you. Thanks for coming. Hi, neil. Great to be here. Neil you saw what happened in the market. Steel stocks did very well. Expect to be beneficiaries of this tougher trade policy. Not so the rest of the markets. Does that worry you . No, it doesnt. We agree with President Trump here. This should be betterment to the u. S. Economy. Its time we have a leader in the white house. China and others with their states supporting this excess and killing u. S. Jobs. Its got to come to an end. We dont see any ill logic to that. Neil you dont see a trade war developing or a tit for tat, if not chinese or others going after exports from this country . Or we cant comment on trade wars and other products. All we know in aluminum is what happened here. The state supported excesses that have decimated these industries. We dont think that at the end of the day this action will cause any greater harm to the economy. The president said it will result in the tide rising for everybody. Neil you hope thats the case. But it can get dicey. Do you think though that if indeed a lot of steel from a broad, aluminum from a broad, the tariffs are 10 to 25 depending on what were talking about here, would you be tempted to raise your prices or keep them where they are . Aluminum thats the beauty of aluminum. We dont seat our prices. A market in london sets our prices. Whatever the price is, thats what we get on every given day. All we know is what were going to do, which is what we said and now were ready to do when the order is final. Were starting production in kentucky that starts the high Grade Aluminum that we had to cut off because of chinas illegal subjectsizations. Do they dump is there hard evidence to suggest that they undercut it and dump it on the market and put it in a disadvantage . Absolutely. Look at the commerce secretarys report sent to the white house in january. We think they got the facts exactly right. Its not just china here. Its other regions of the world. Neil hes a former steel guy himself. Two other people in the white house including the defense secretary didnt want this to happen. They didnt think now is the time to do it. Yeah. Cant comment on that. We think the commerce secretary got it right. Neil so you think right now that this will be something that will be productive for you guys. The chinese or any of these other players come with a counter offer or Something Else . A lot of people say this is a preview of coming attractions. Weve seen it in solar panels. Its getting to be a busy list. Who knows. That would be great, neil, at the end of the day if this cases china and other actors came to the table and said our excess production wont have a home anymore. We think thats great. But otherwise, were hugely supportive of the president s actions. Neil thanks very much. Mike bless. One of the instant beneficiaries of this move by the president. Paul ryan and his office said the speaker is hoping the president will consider the unintended consequences of this idea and look at other approaches before moving forward earlier today. The Federal Reserve chairman was asked about this in testimony before Senate Committee saying that by and large, this is not the right thing to do or the right timing for this. Im paraphrasing here. Much of official washington concerned about this as the former press secretary for george w. Bush, Ari Fleischer is here with us. Theres been a history of the Steel Industry seeking favor or some relief for president s. Goes all the way back to john kennedy. George bush, george bushs fathers. Theres a history of this. In the case when you worked with president bush, what was the end result . President bush announced up to 30 tariffs against steel imports in 2002. They were supposed to last three years. They lasted 22 months. We were about to lose the wto case against the United States where they would have been basically retaliating against us and hurting us in other segments of the economy. So we with drew them really with no damage done, no trade war started. Thats been the experience. I dont think it saved the Steel Industry as you can see steel. It still buffeted by the same pressures. And dick gephart different feel you went far enough and others thought your abandoned your partys principles. With the Steel Industry in family, it has to keep going back to washington. Why . I do think the issue about dumping is a legitimate issue. When bush announced the tariffs, he excepted canada and mexico. The nations that were targeted asia, taiwan, south korea where we thought the source came from. Heres what you have to realize, neil. Let this play out. Experts hate tear rbis, economists hate tariffs. Donald trump doesnt look it that way. I dont know who will be right or wrong. He looks at these issues through the eyes of blue collar americans. Neil but this could ignite inflation in other ways. Its always the unintended consequences that the same blue collar americans there are not taxes here. They have to pay more for the goods that are affected themselves. Is that fair . I heard the same arguments in 2002 and none of that developed when george bush announced up to 30 tariff. So yes, those are the classic economic arguments raised against it. In an economy with so many inputs into it, its hard to say what cause whats behavior when. My view is that the president is going to do this. Let it play out. Let it see. I do think the big issue of the trump years is forgotten working man and women, the blue Collar Worker that was left out of the rally and hasnt had a pay raise in 10 or 15 years neil i dont know if this is the way to fix it. Thats all im saying. But i dont know if its not. Thats my point, neil. I was taught not to believe in tariffs. Taught classic economic theory tariffs backfire. I dont think we have enough knowledge neil we have a lot of knowledge and data. I think we do. And the history isnt really good on it. I think the last time we did Something Like this was it really trigger add depression and a market fall that the likes of which we havent seen in a generation. The last time 2002 when george bush did it and did not trigger neil because they pulled it away. The beginning of the trade war. Neil well see what happens. You and i respectfully disagree on that. Meantime, hope hicks is leaving. What if i told you it had more to do with leaking . After this. Run, jump or swim in this president s day and save up to 600 on select tempurpedic Adjustable Mattress sets. From the brand ranked highest in customer satisfaction, with mattresses by j. D. Power. Tempurpedic sleep is power. How much money do you think youll need in retirement . Then we found out how many years that money would last them. How long do you think well keep oooooohhh you stopped youre gonna leave me back here at year 9 . How did this happen . It turned out, a lot of people fell short, of even the average length of retirement. We have to think about not when we expect to live to, but when we could live to. Lets plan for income that lasts all our years in retirement. Prudential. Bring your challenges. You or joints. Something for your heart. But do you take something for your brain. With an ingredient originally found in jellyfish, prevagen is the number one selling brainhealth supplement in drug stores nationwide. Prevagen. The name to remember. I accept i dont i even accept i i used thave a higher risk of stroke due to afib, a type of irregular heartbeat not caused by a heart valve problem. But no matter where i ride, i go for my best. So if theres Something Better than warfarin, ill go for that too. Eliquis. Eliquis reduced the risk of stroke better than warfarin, plus had less major bleeding than warfarin. Eliquis had both. Dont stop taking eliquis unless your doctor tells you to, as stopping increases your risk of having a stroke. Eliquis can cause serious and in rare cases fatal bleeding. Dont take eliquis if you have an artificial heart valve or abnormal bleeding. While taking eliquis, you may bruise more easily. And it may take longer than usual for any bleeding to stop. Seek immediate medical care for sudden signs of bleeding, like unusual bruising. Eliquis may increase your bleeding risk if you take certain medicines. Tell your doctor about all planned medical or dental procedures. Im still going for my best. And for eliquis. Ask your doctor about eliquis. Neil all right. You know by now that hope hicks is leaving. Would she be if it wasnt for the leaking . Her admitting that sometimes she tells white lies for President Trump. That was supposed to remain private. Didnt happen. My next guest that sits on that Committee Says this is getting ridiculous. Tom rooney is calling for the committees russia investigation to end. That might be your hope, congressman. What are you hearing from some of your colleagues . Well see. I made it known to our chairman, chairman conway yesterday after a ninehour interview with hope hicks in the skiff that if what weve been reduced to is interviewing these witnesses that are coming their voluntarily, by the way, to walking out and reporter asking is it true that hope hicks tells white lies for trump, thats the driving news story of the day, then we have gone completely off the rails and that this investigation needs to end. I think i made that very clear to him. So hopefully but unfortunately thats the reality of where we are right now. Neil congressman, if stuff leaked out during the inquiry, during the questioning because it seems in a lot of cases youre hearing about this stuff, i dont know in the cases of hope hicks, but as the question and answer is happening. It was literally we got called to vote. I walked out in the hallway from interviewing hope hicks, sitting at a table with her and my colleagues from across the aisle, walking out only to have a reporter ask me if something that was just said was true to the point where the first time for the First Time Since ive been on the committee for over a year doing these investigations with trey gowdy, i asked the reporter who told you that . Thats absolutely absurd that we cant conduct this interview in a skiff, which is classified spaces and walk out into the hallway only to have a reporter ask me if something is true that was just said basically means that there is theres no integrity left within the walls of that committee and that we basically have been turned into a source for tabloid journalism to thrive with these witnesses rather than to be able to write pa report on how the Intelligence Community can better do their jobs. Youre not the only one bedevilled by the president. The president has complained about this whole process, even going after his attorney general on this, special general investigation. You know, into the fisa matter. What did you think of that back and forth there . Well, i mean, i dont really want to get into his relationship with senator sessions. Neil feel free. Senator sessions came down and he gave his testimony and he was forthright. We appreciated the time he gave us. He decided to recuse himself based on what he told us because he was part of the campaign and he was told very early on when he got to the attorney generals office, because youre part of the campaign when youre dealing with something that is being alleged to have happened during the campaign, you should recuse yourself. This wasnt something that he came up with himself. Neil youve seen the domino effect and the president might regret that now. But you think Jeff Sessions should leave . Ill leave that up to the president. He works for the president. Jeff sessions is a good man that i believe is trying to do the best job he can with what hes got. The president is right, neil. We have not found any evidence of collusion in this investigati investigation. Neil thanks very much. More after this. Heres the story of Green Mountain Coffee Roasters sumatra reserve told in the time it takes to brew your cup. Lets go to sumatra. Wheres sumatra . Good question. This is win. And thats wins goat, adi. The coffee here is amazing. Because the volcanic soil is amazing. Making the coffee erupt with flavor. So we give farmers like win more plants. To grow more delicious coffee. That erupts with even more flavor. Which helps provide for wins family. And adi the goats family too. Because his kids eat a lot. All, for a smoother tasting cup of coffee. Green mountain Coffee Roasters. Packed with goodness. Neil well bring up this particular issue of a selloff on a possible trade war. Something i want to raise with texas republican congressman, the chairmans of the ways and means, kevin brady. Were getting different reports from different folks that sympathize with the steel ceos and their problems. For example, the Business Roundtable is aghast at this saying strongly they disagree with the announce meant because it was hurt the u. S. Economy and the consumers by raising prices. Speaker paul ryans office feeling the same way that the president will consider the unintended consequences of this idea and make look at other approaches. Many others of that similar mindset. What do you think . Yeah, so look, heres the good news. Thanks to President Trumps tax cuts, we have an energized economy. Our business is one of the more competitive tax codes in the world. Hes right. The president tries to target unfairly traded steel and aluminum. But blanket tariffs that sweep in fairly traded products can backfire. They can hurt american jobs and workers. Thats where i think were all urging the president look, continue to narrow this to the unfairly targeted products. Exempt those that are fairly traded and there are a lot of these. We have a complicated economy. Not all Steel Products are interchangeable. We want to make sure, for example, in texas. I worry about our pipelines. That steel fairly traded. That could harm the very pipelines that are bringing American Energy to our refineries around the world. I worry about our Texas Manufacturing plants. I know the president is strongly guarding our American Energy workers. He wants to do right by them. Neil maybe he doesnt know . But i know where his heart is. He doesnt like steel being dumped here. When i talk about the unintended consequences, canada is irate saying that i will take responsive measures to defend their trade interests and workers. I suspect well hear similar sentiments. Now the list seems to be growing. Are you worried . Well, look, you dont want to set off a trade war. The more surgical you are and targeting these unfairly traded products, the better it is. Look, there is major problems with chinas overcapacity. Theres other issues. The president is right to deal with it. But you want to make sure this doesnt backfire on u. S. Workers. Thats why, again, the president has not yet issued these tariffs. Hes continued hes been continuing to listen. What im urging him to do is narrow this. Make sure youre exempting fairly traded products. Neil what if that means you talk about different blends of steel that we dont make, that we can only get from abroad. If you slap that on those things, then theres no alternatives for americans. In the cases, for example, here in texas, we sell send steel pullets from Corpus Christi to austria. Theyre finely tuned and selfback to navasota texas who make the best tubing for the energy industry. Theyre all american jobs except for one action. We want to make sure these fairly traded products are not caught up in this blanket tariff. Tariffs are taxes. Lower is better. Zero is the best. You want to make sure this is dope right. You mentioned the big tax cuts. Youre leading a push to make those tax cuts permanent for individuals. Theyre presently only that way for corporations. In the middle of this comes something that could be a significant tax and gets to be a bigger tax on americans offsetting all the hard work that you put into this. What do you think . Well, we want to build off of momentum of the tax cuts. Energize the economy. We want more customers. Thats critical. Thats why the trade agreements, modernized nafta is so critical for us. Im heading down, leading a delegation to the seventh round of the nafta talks this weekend. We want to help President Trump modernize this agreement and create more jobs to us. Neil does he want to abandon nafta outright . Hes threatened it. I dont think so. Neil has he told you that . Theres some huge wins for the president in our economy in a new modern nafta. Theres no doubt about it. Thats why im getting engaged to help deliver on that promise. Neil i heard from a lot of people, talking about the Business Roundtable and on fox business, which if you dont get you should get it and you do demand it. I do get it. Neil one of the things thats come up since this trade move is that this president isnt a free trade guy. Hes a protectionist. With his heart in the right place, he will risk doing a great deal of harm to the economy. You say what . The president s focused on manufacturing in a major way, trade deficits in a major way and he doesnt want to outsource more american jobs. I think our tax cuts and new tax code go a long way toward solving a lot of that. Modern new agreements like with mexico and canada can go a long way with creating the jobs and getting more customers. Theres good work to be done here that can be helpful again. You always want to avoid in a complicated economy with complicated products, you dont want to do anything that backfires on us. Neil understood. Kevin brady, whether people agree or disagree, theres no harder working man in washington d. C. The chairman of the house ways and means. The fallout on this and particularly the parallel to john f. Kennedy. Ill explain after this. Hey, sir losealot thou hast the patchy beard of a prepubescent squire thy armor was forged by a feeblefingered peasant woman. Your mom as long as hecklers love to heckle, you can count on geico saving folks money. Boring fifteen minutes could save you fifteen percent or more on car insurance. Do you like freshly steamed lobster . Do you like the word and . Then youll love outbacks steak and lobster. Back by popular demand, only 15. 99. So hurry in now. Outback steakhouse. Aussie rules. Neil theyre called emotional support animals and more common on flights than you think. Airlines are saying enough with this. Were going to cool it on this. All bark and bite after this. Neil you know, youre not imagining it. Steel Companies Going to washington, to the white house support dates back to j. F. Kennedy in 1962. J. F. K. Was going after Steel Companies for hiking prices. He was targeting them. Not foreign steel. Take a look. Our simultaneous and idea kay actions of the United States steel and other leading steel corporations increasing steel prices by some 6 a ton constitute a wholly unjustifiable and defiance of the public interest. At a time when we strain and sacrifice of every citizen, the American People will find it hard as i do to accept a situation in which exceed their sense of public responsibility can show such utter contempt for the interests of 185 million americans. Neil all right. So theres a history. Very different case. The Steel Industry and hiked prices, the president said that wont fly. This is very different case where a president intervened because he feels the same Steel Industry has deteriorated and getting taken advantage of by foreign competitors. Interesting, isnt it, doug . Yes. But the one thing they have in common, they are both invoking National Security. So kennedy is saying, hey, free markets, thats great by i dont know any capitalism, he learned from his father how it can be rigged. In a time of the cold war, you cant do this. Its like the Drug Companies using their patents to make money while they can trump is invoking National Security. Hes saying hey, weve got to have steel manufacturing. We cannot be dependent in the world if were going to be strategically sound. Trump is using the democrat populism and kennedy was using republican populism. Neil i get nervous when the final source of action is the white house or the government. Be careful what you wish for. That is playing the ultimate card. It can have questionable results, right . Well, i agree with you totally on that im hearing all day that we might get into a trade war. Thats Donald Trumps whole point. We are in a trade war. Neil absolutely. But other industries will feel that they can rectify competitive issues that they have with the white house looking after them or washington taking care of them. Thats very different kind of a fear and might not be the case here. But you cant tell me that in other sector in trouble will start looking at this and say hey, what about us . Yeah, youre right. Its clear donald trump is not an idealog. And i have a new Youtube Video out, top ten president s 2018 ranking. When you study the overlay of trump and kennedy, theyre opposites. Harvard academic and both come from billionaire fathers tight them that the bottom line is what you do is action. Trump doesnt seem to care about his popularity. He cares about what do i have to do to get things done. So its fascinating to see it play out. Neil you know, when you talk about the popularity, its very popular to make the case to average workers that especially in the Steel Industry, youre being taken advantage of by foreigners that are dumping steel and thats why youre in trouble. But its quite another to say to American People, you could end up paying more for other things as a result of this. Even the fed chairman was saying this could lead to an inflationary wave if were not care. So how do you balance that . How does the president balance that . Hes watching that. The interesting thing about him, he can change his mind, which an idialog cant. The bottom line for him is jobs. If he thinks its going to slip the other way, i wouldnt be surprised if he changes his bargaining stance. Neil the markets tanked on this on fears that this could spread from here. One thing for john kennedy and his going after the Steel Companies for hiking prices, they reversed that price hike. But it was intimidating and for a lot of people, the wall street journal was writing at the time, an unusual precedent. They said the same about when the government intervened on behalf of the automakers during the meltdown. Is there a place for a president to play this role and how does he overplay it . He shamed them. Youre right. The one thing to keep in mind when we talk about kennedy and we talk about reagan and the other president s, they were in the middle of the cold war. Humanity is at stake. At least the cold war is over now. Its very hard to compare the two. But its fun to try. I like that. All right, doug. Great historian and great mind. Thank you. Thank you, neil. Neil its often how the Steel Industry has petitioned the white house to get some help. You remember the flyer, this was awhile back, that thought that bringing a peacock on a flight was a good idea. Starting today, some airlines are saying that wont fly. Why is dark magic so spellbindingly good . Its a bold blend of coffee with rich flavors of uganda, sumatra, colombia and other parts of south america. Like these mountains, each amazing on their own. But together . Magical. All, for a smoother tasting cup of coffee. Green mountain Coffee Roasters. You heard about this story . Delta and united are requiring passengers to show extra documentation for emotional support animals at least 48 hours prior. Here with me to tell us about it by the way, the 24 7 is right. Shes been on the air for 24 straight hours. Carlie, whats going on . This is an interesting situation. How it happened is even more. I heard you mention the peacocks. Airlines are required to allow service and animals on board. The problem is some of them are not trained, which has led to incidents biting passengers, animals urinating, growling at passengers. Neil that happens with people, too. Yeah, especially if youre hungry. Neil i thought it was dogs. Its expanded. Delta and united have decided to tighten the rules. Passengers have to provide a note from a vet saying the animal is healthy and has the shots. If you have an untrained comfort animal, you have to provide additional notice saying that your animal will behave while on board. 48 hours in advance of your flight. Neil what happens to get this crackdown going . The peacock did something nuts or absolutely. For delta, it was really bad incident that happened last year where a passenger was bitten in the face multiple times by an untrained animal. For united, the catalyst is the fact that a woman tried to board a plane with an emotional support peacock. That didnt fly. Thats right. Neil so eloquently put by you. I dont know how they had to wing a new policy. Yeah. So do you think that a peacock could provide an emotional support . Im unconvinced. Neil you know, someone had a big one time. And some of these animals are allowed. The department of transportations guidelines are for unique animals, regulated on a case by case basis. Airlines are never required to accept spiders, ferrets, reptiles and snakes. United has expanded that to eninclude hedgehogs, positive sims and nonhousehold birds. That means that people have tried to board planes with these animals on multiple occasions. Neil so does the animal sit next to the flyer . Thats right. Neil what if you have three seats across . And sometimes that happens. Under the americans with disabilities act, miniature horses are allowed on planes. Neil no way. They are. Neil really . Yes. This has to do with animals that are sitting on your lap or in the aisle in a certain way. Not animals in cables under your seat. Neil there will be animal lovers that have saids seen unruly kids. And you know, kids are worse than any animals that weve seen brought up for this investigation. Now youre hating on children. Neil im thinking of my own, how awful they are. But you ever think that they have to get a handle on this because its out of control . Thats right. The fine line is, how do you that balance people that need these animals. And the rest of the passengers on the plane. Some passengers have allergies. Thats an issue. Delta says that they fly 700 animals per day, which is a 150 increase since 2015. More and more people are trying to bend the rules so they dont have to pay the price to check the animal and theyre pretending to need this emotional support animal and its hurting people that need these animals like veterans and people with ptsd. Neil other passengers say youre in 17 b, like an ostrich under the new rules, ostriches cannot fly. Thats out. Neil how about sloths . I dont know. Thats up for debate. If i was seated next to a sloth, it would make my day. That would be a good thing. Neil you used to work for don imus. So kidding. Entirely unrelated. Neil thanks, carlie. If it matters to you, it matters to you. Early on we told you that congressman rooney is saying the way we find out about stuff, including hope hicks testimony how it was leaked, theres a big, big problem here. Real big problems. What do do about them. After this. Mvo youre not doing work to help somebody, youre gaining something from meeting mr. Adderley. Its a calling to not only everybody in this neighborhood in miami, but to the nation how great we are. And how great we can be. Ill stand by you. Ill stand by you. And ill never desert you. Ill stand by you. Hey. Pass please. Im here to fix the elevator. Nothings wrong with the elevator. Right. But you want to fix it. Right. So who sent you . New guy. What new guy . Watson. My analysis of sensor and Maintenance Data indicates elevator 3 will malfunction in 2 days. There you go. You still need a pass. Neil i walked out into the hallway from interviewing hope hicks, sitting at a table with her and my colleagues from across the aisle walking out into the hallway only to have a reporter ask me if something that was just said was true to the point where the first time, for the First Time Since ive been on the committee for over a year doing these investigations with trey gowdy, i asked the reporter who told you that. Because thats absolutely absurd that we cant conduct this interview in a skiff, which is classified spaces and walk out into the hallway only to have a reporter ask me if something is true that was just said, just basically means that there is no integrity left within the walls of that committee. Neil hes right. A lot of leaking going on, sometimes as a q and a session is going on behind closed doors. Its a problem. A big problem. Joining me how, molly hemingway. Im surprised democrats have leaked during a hearing, its not the first time. I think don jr. s testimony was leaked during the hearing. Its about the way the leaks are presented. They have a pattern of being false. The hope hicks testimony, sometimes shes says her boss is in a meeting when otherwise hes busy. If you think its treasonous collusion or behavior, if see were going to have an entire town of secretaries hanging be i the gallows is if that is a serious problem and how you discourse with the media and with other people. Its not just that theyre leaking, its how theyre doing it. Theres been multiple examples of doing the false league. These texts between wikileaks and roger stone. Maybe its the reporters fault but they were purporting to show the exact opposite of what they showed. The actual texts showed that wikileaks was telling roger stone to knock it off. But the way it was spoken is that they did have a collusion or treasonous relationship. Its not just the leaking but the spin that goes with it. Neil and hope hicks, the one thing that intrigued me, that was the white lies line that was the one that was really savored over nine hours of a back and forth, you know, testimony. I dont know. I mean, that is a bit of a leak. Thats all you have after nine hours, you probably dont have much to go with. House democrats were behind that huge blowup of the cnn story where they said that they had evidence that wikileaks or somebody had provided hacked emails before they were made public. Turned out the democrats on the committee had either misread or given false information to cnn and they had the date wrong, this is something that people have to think through. Are we worried about treasonous collusion with russia or seeing something different. An investigation that hasnt show collusion but showing tiny things that are not that big of a deal but are spun by democrats into being a big deal. Neil i know leaking has been going on forever. But it seems like crazy. Molly, thanks very much. Again, just to conclude here before we leave, the dow down about 420 points now on concerns the president may be with all the right intentions could start a trade war. Will he . Well explore that tomorrow. The five is next. Growing up, we were german. We danced in a german dance group. I wore lederhosen.
