Hello, im neil cavuto. This is your world. The dow is at 19,287 to be exact. Up 67 points on growing optimism that the country is headed for even better times here and that some of the signals were getting out of president elect trump could indicate robust activity. Its always in the details. One to watch as well is what was going on with the russell 2000. A good barometer of Smaller Company strength. That is up 11 now just since the election. Keep in mind, this is an index populated by Small Company stocks and the betting seems to be whatever happens in a Trump Administration, whether its a trade war that started, that is the cynical view out there, not necessarily everyone buys that, that these guys will benefit regardless. The dow is at the highest level it has ever been, that would be a 5 leap or so at these levels. All right, lets get a gauge of this with market watchers Brian Redbird and larry glazer. Lets begin with you, larry. What do you make of what the markets seem to be saying, at least since the election . Neil, who would have thought the dow would be at 19,000 right now making new highs after the dismal start we saw at the beginning of this year. And you can only chalk it up to optimism about progrowth economic policies. But people are hopeful of lower taxes, less regulation and Lower Health Care costs, but most importantly more growth in the economy. And that is what is getting priced into stocks. But again, although optimism is high, expectations are also getting very high at these levels right now. And we know change comes very slowly in washington. So we want to temper that expectation, recognize that as money goes from cash and bonds into stocks, recognize that, look, we start with a very High National debt to make all these changes. And we have a debt at 9 trillion in the obama administration, even a republican administration, they have a tough time passing many of the policies. So we need to be cautious at these levels. Recognize were optimistic, but it will be some time before all these things happen. What do you make of the weather, offsetting concerns about rising Interest Rates, they are rising for all the right rates for improved economic activity, but the fear is that if they keep rising, it could put a damper on u. S. Profits abroad, and all that. You know the drill and people are worried about that. Do you think that is a justifiable fear that kind of reigns on this party or what . Well, i think the only way Interest Rates are going to keep rising and rise consistently is if the economy improves. Obviously, trump has a lot of work to do. Larry said it himself, theres a decent amount of work to do, so we have to be a little bit patient. But with that being said, if we see that, if over the next three to six months, we see the right people getting into office and see them doing the right things, then i think that will keep moving the market higher as well as moving Interest Rates higher. So i think the Interest Rates will pull back in the market and be good opportunities for people to step in on the pullbacks. With that being said, i think the market will recover and keep moving higher with a higher interest rate. Brian, one of the things we have noticed is that this market has had an incredible run, even before the election. A lot of democratic friends of mine say, well, that happened under a democratic president. The dow essentially tripling a lot of other averages, soaring, that will be a hard act for donald trump to top. Even though it leads to much of the activity the last couple of weeks, it could in large part be because of Donald Trumps election, but what do you make of this being hard to keep going, just by the sheer force. Well, you know, i think there is clearly something new going on here. This isnt this isnt just something that donald trump inherited. The market is looking at what hes saying. And by the way, the important thing here to notice is hes staying on message. Every time he talks, hes talking about growth. Hes talking about taxes. Energy, finances, he is talking about regulatory reform. This is what is so important. If he stays on message, this can continue. If he gets off message, if he starts talking about trade issues that the markets are worried about, big tariffs, youll see problems. But he can keep this going if he stays on message. All right. Larry, one of the things about trade, is its small stocks that benefit in that environment. Because they dont get caught up in the trade. They dont get caught up in all of this stuff, so they have been overlooked. Maybe not so much now, what do you think . Well, were really talking about larry, i keep forgetting there are two, i apologize. Profound change is what were talking about. We see the leadership of the small market being small capped, that is an optimistic sign. This is looking like the Small Business president. Those are the businesses that have been left behind in this economy by the last several administrations. So were so excited to see the leadership coming out of mainstream. Money spent in retail and not on wall street. Thats a big deal. And International Challenges affect big companies, not necessarily small companies, to do their business here. And growth comes from within. If a consumer does well, that is twothirds of the u. S. Economy. That is why Small Businesses are doing so well right now. Larry, there is a focus on the cabinet, too, of who donald trump surrounds himself with. We have ben carson who could play a role in that. How important is that to you . Its pretty important. Obviously, we want to see larry said it himself, we have a situation where we finally have a Small Business president. If you talk about any entrepreneurs over the last eight years, nobody would tell you they were happy with what the cabinet was doing, with what the president was doing, you couldnt find an spre entrepren happy. So we are excited with donald trump to see a real situation where its going to be good for the Small Business. And if he picks the right cabinet, that will make entrepreneurs out there and Small Business owners even want to take more risk as its going in the right direction. Guys, thank you very much. We will bring you uptodate on this. Of course, the dow is at 19,000, the first time we have ever been there. We are also getting word that donald trump has already left the trump tower en route to florida. Hes going to spend his thanksgiving break there. And im always selfish about these things because my immediate thought is, hes only left trump tower now. What they do is close off avenue streets, the entire lincoln tunnel to traffic, no one can access that. And im looking at a sevenhour commute getting home. I live seven miles away. Thats just me. Karl mcshane is at the trump tower. We are awaiting more cabinet announcements. Reporter that could be, neil. I think hes going east, he could be going to la quaaguardi. I only care about you. The latebreaking story from the wall street journal this afternoon, neil, is that the president elect is leaning in their reporting towards asking mitt romney to be his secretary of state. Again, the report in the wall street journal is one we have not independent confirmed, but thats adding to a day already quite dramatic. Earlier today mr. Trump left her at trump tower to head a few blocks west to the headquarters of the New York Times for a meeting there, one that he tweeted earlier in the morning had been called off and canceled. It was not and happened. Among the topics discussed we are told, potential conflicts of interest for mr. Trump with his business hes run for so many years. And his new job, soon to be president of the United States. Maggie haggerman, one of the reporters of the times tweeted out a quote from donald trump saying, the law is totally on my side. The president cant have a conflict of interest. That was a tweet from trump or quote from trump. He said later in that meeting that he still plans to hand over his business to his children, as hes said all along. Now, finally neil, to wrap up, there were important meetings here at trump tower. The Vice President elect mike pence was here, the former mayor of new york, Rudy Giuliani was here. And he talked to ben carson. His meeting was the most newsworthy of the day because mr. Trump said he was considering dr. Carson to be the secretary of house and urban development. Back to you. Dr. Ben carson is joining me now. He poopooed trying to join the donald trump cabinet, but as much as he tries to separate himself, he keeps getting reeled back in. They are interested in having you as the hud secretary. Would you be interested in that . Well, you know, our inner cities are in terrible shape. And they definitely need some real attention. You know, there have been so many promises made over the last several decades, and nothing has been done. So it certainly is something that has been a longterm interest of mine. And ill be thinking and praying about it seriously over the has it been altered, sir . We have had offers, yes. And is it the hud position . I would say that was one of the offers that is on the table. What would steer you to take the job for which a lot of folks say, hey, you have these ample medical degrees and one of the nations top neurosurgeons. What do you know about doing this . I know that i grew up in the inner city. And have spent a lot of time there. And have dealt with a lot of patients from that area. And recognize that we cannot have a strong nation if we have weak inner cities. And we have to get beyond the promises and start really doing something. And also, you know, the amount of corruption and graph and things that have shell games that are played, we have to get rid of all that stuff and need to start operating things in an efficient and effective way. After what you make of the talk that mitt romney could be joining you in that cabinet, if that was the case . Well, it shows that president elect trump is perhaps not as thinskinned as many think he is. Hes had very substantial talks with mitt romney sure he would o do anything of substance if he didnt believe we are told the team has a different view, though. They have long memories, too, and remember what mr. Romney said about him, and that there is still a lot of bad blood there, but if its true, the president elect doesnt seem to matter as his own team of rivals come. He does tend to make good choices. When you look at his businesses around the world, you know, he doesnt micromanage them, but he manages to pick people who do a very good job of managing. Do you agree with him about, that is, the president elect and what hes said about the media, apparently he was letting folks know at the New York Times when he was there today how much he was bothered by what he interpreted to be biased reporting. Said the same to media executives yesterday, how do you think that will go in the Trump Administration with the press . Do you bypass the press . I dont think you bypass the press. I think you face the issue. Its a problem. The press is the only Business Protected by the constitution for a reason. Theyre supposed to be honest. They are supposed to keep the people informed in an objective manner. When they pick sides, they distort the system as it was designed. And every time i see a young journalist, i talk to them about bringing integrity back. Rejecting their elders who tell them that they have to march to a certain drum. And its possible that we can get another generation of journalists who have real integrity. Do you think if hes serious about that as donald trump is in bringing someone like a mitt romney on board, obviously he has thicker skin than generally has been preached about in the press, then he should just ignore the press and shouldnt make a big deal about it or shouldnt remember every slide or he shouldnt be going after the cast of hamilton or after his running mate. Youre the president of the United States, youre above all that. What do you think . Well, that is his progress five as an independent citizen with the ability to speak his mind. He has an incredible audience on social media. So he can really kind of bypass the filters. Do you think he can keep that going as president of the United States . I dont see any reason why not. If you were a secretary in the cabinet, would you have your own social media site . I might. Really . You never know. It really depends on what messages i wanted to get out to the people and whether they were getting out. Now, its a big sacrifice, as you know, doctor, going to washington and serving in the capacity or on the cabinets senior staff. Are you up to that . Is your wife up to that . You give up a lot, too. Well, you know, winning this election is really only step one. We have a long way to go to rite this ship. And sacrifices have to be made if were going to do that so when you hear the back and forth of all the people that go back and forth to meet with donald trump, and lets say they never get picked, but they have a chance and an audience with donald trump, how do you think this process has been going . That for some it looks like a parade and event. But how do you like it . It is quite interesting. There certainly was a whole gaggle of reporters there. When i came in this morning, they didnt see me because i snuck right in behind them. Oh, come on. I did. They would know who you are. Because Rudy Giuliani was coming down the stairs and they were right behind him. Oh, did you have to wear a disguise to avoid getting noticed . It is wide open. But i think its the way he does thing. He did it in apprentice and is doing it here. It does have an apprentice feel to it. Is there a good spirit to that . Is that by design . I dont know if it is by design, but as long as it works. The key thing is we have to get people who are really concerned about this country who have integrity who really do want to drain the swamp, who really want to reestablish this nation for the people. And not for the political class. Dr. Ben carson, always a pleasure having you. We could be seeing a lot more of you. And carl icahn says you may be seeing more of him, but maybe not in the role you would expect as a billionaire financer and one of the earliest in the Business Community to say this guy, trump, hes going to be the next president of the United States. By the way, carl said that 18 months ago. Jake reese, day to feel alive jake reese, day to feel alive jake reese, day to feel alive all right, you are looking at new york city where they are taking extra effort around times square to make sure it is a safe thanksgiving day parade. We are on it in 60 seconds. When you have 7. 95 online u. S. Equity trades lower than td ameritrade, schwab, and etrade, you realize the smartest investing idea isnt just what you invest in, but who you invest with. All right. Carl icahn is a longtime trump friend and supporter who said he very much had a shot of becoming the president of the United States. When i caught up to him, i asked him what role he would play in a Trump Administration. Carl icahn. I said before that i would be secretary of treasury or be an adviser of some type, perhaps publicly, perhaps not. But i have 10, 15 companies to run. And im not going to move to washington or anything like that. It is a big adjustment when you give that up to join the public sector, right . I mean, much has been made of what mr. Trump might have to do now, whether to put it into a blind trust or gives it to the kids, hes going to be closely scrutinized on those relationships. Yeah, but i mean, yeah, it will certainly be president and what donald has done is very important for the country. I think my giving advice can help someone, i hope, and i tend to do it if donald wants to listen. And to some extent, i talked to him throughout this campaign, but i tell you that people, pundits all wonder what happened, and i think it was extremely simple. That if you think about it, a middleclass guy working out in the midwest, the real question is, why did he vote for, but why wouldnt you vote for him . Why would you keep this going with this establishment . And i dont know if you read the editorial i wrote in the wall street journal today. I did. And i think its really it comes to the point, i think it is, shall we say, a manifestation of what is going on and why this economy is not working. You got to the point about regulations and particularly oil in the industry, but there are all sorts of ways the government has access to this huge impediment of business and progress, but you think donald trump should address that sort of thing, which he appears to be willing to do in the first 100 days. Well, you know, ive talked to donald a number of times on the regulations that you have, the bpa is the quintessential example of why people dont invest, why corporations do not invest. You are not going to invest when you have im not exaggerating, insane regulation. Now, you need regulations. I dont want to say in any way that a kind of company shouldnt be regulated to some extent. In fact, i think you need to be regulated to some extension that donald does. On dodd frank you dont think he should torpedo that. I dont think he should torpedo it totally. That should have been regulated. It was obvious that was going to blow up one day. Everybody agreed to it. Just the same thing now, that with business today, the problem is that you are completely strangled by too many regulations done by people that have no understanding whatsoever of business and the ramifications of it. As a result, as a result of those regulations, you dont have to suspend it. Hillary clinton said we should unleash the great amount of capital in our businesses. And she said that, but then she went on to say, but me was regulate them and tax them. Obviously, business is not investing. If it doesnt invest, you have no productivity. If you dont have productivity, you cant compete. Its as simple as that. If he puts priority on dealing with these regulations over tax cuts, he already said he might not move right away on taxes. No, that usually is in other words, i think hell have tax cuts on the corporate level for sure. Look, i am the first to tell you, i think there will be big bumps in the road, nothing goes easily. This is a democracy, you have a congress, but we have done nothing for eight years to help business. In fact, business is perceived to be a war, or government is perceived to be at war with business. So therefor, it is not a great puzzle to all the great pundits, what is going on . Why isnt there productivity . There isnt because we dont invest. You dont invest because we are at war with the government. The government comes in and drives you crazy. We finally got rid of that albatraz around their neck. And that is why i was with trump right from the beginning. And i believed he would win. You were saying that when no one else was, so my hat is off to you, carl. But back to the role you might play as an adviser, that would be like a kitchen cabinettype adviser without a title, per se, or do you are you poopooing the notion of a formal role to either be in a senior you know, no, im definitely we have never said i would take a formal role. Im 80 years old. I have never reported to anyone in my life. Thats not my nature. So i could never get involved in washington or into the bureaucracy of that. Let me ask you, though, donald trump right now is meeting at the New York Times, a crowd dispersed there as he came in the back way and they are furious, but what do you make of him going there . This is an on again off again meeting. And furthermore, he met with media executives yesterday. They came to him. Hes going to the New York Times. Do you think in any weird way that elevates the times . When you say hes going to the times, what does that mean . Im sorry, that means hes physically at the headquarters there in new york city. Hes meeting with the publisher and then some of the editorial folks. This is unusual, i would say, because the other media sites who met with him, met with him at his trump tower. Yeah, no, i read i read somewhere yesterday or someone told me that he had canceled the meeting, but i guess it is on again. So i have no idea. I mean, that, i think, is sort of secondary, isnt it somewhat . To what is going on in the country . I mean, the media he was saying the media is unfair to him, heist going to bypass the media, he communicates past the media, in a way so do you, come to think of it. So what do you make of that and that things will change under President Trump . No, i really think things will change. I think trump wants to be a great president. You know, i think it was very unfair in the election what the media did, in many cases. You know, you can do what you want on the editorial page, i write the editorial, but it is the carl icahn column, thats what he believes. But when you put out the news, less people are reading the newspapers. Because youre wanting everyones opinion. Everyone wants to give their opinion in the news, and i dont think that should be done. And i think that is the problem that you have with the media and this election. I never ive been around for a long time and been very involved and never saw it as bad as it was here. In fact, it might have helped donald. It might have been a backlash. People read it and say bull [ bleep ]. A lot of people thats the reason a lot of people dont read the newspapers, because they dont think they are for those of you at home, we cant relate the language, but carl speaks his mind. Carl, let me ask you about the economic positions that will be filled in a Trump Administration. And for treasury secretary, in particular, its a growing long list, but that a couple wall streeters are on there. And i guess im asking you, in light of what happened with the meltdown and in light of whatever you want to say, the former saks co chair, is it such a good idea to have someone from like a big investment into press secretary . No, i dont think so. I think that you need somebody i think you really need a trump loyalist. Trump will get things done. You need to have smart guys, and really believe that getting this cleaned up. You know, i started thinking that they could have gone much further to clean the situation up. And today, say what you want, you dont have a great economy. You got the worcoverup in mist history. You dont have jobs in the middle class. You live in a bubble in mat hat tan or l. A. , and those people do it very well. And i think they sort of are almost unable to see the problems that are going on outside the sphere. And i think what you need im behind steve nugent on that. Hes a smart guy and trump loyalist. I dont think he should be reaching out to try to have this comebehindme moment where we should all be friends, im very much for not having conflict with the other parties and to try to make things good with the media. But you shouldnt lose sight of what you want to get. Carl icahn 80 years young. Well watch closely. Only a couple days from the big main event in new york, which is the thanksgiving day parade. A little early, or if you are going to grandmas, heres a live look at lax and chicago. The fact of the matter is, a crowded situation that could get complicated by Mother Nature and some pretty threatening storms, theres bad weather out there. Accuweather meteorologist Britney Boyer on what we can expect. Hey, britney. Hey, neil. Whether youre hitting the car or a flight, youll have travel delays likely, especially here in the north central. Heres the latest storm system. Now at last check up in minneapolis at st. Paul, we have a little bit of freezing rain right now, so we are having travel delays there. The colder air starting to fill in towards duluth. Thats where we will have several inches of snow. Farther south, we are looking at just plain rain right now toward omaha. So heres a look at snowfall totals through your wednesday, the next 24 hours. Now central and northern minnesota, these spots saw quite a bit of snow last week. Unfortunately, looking at another 3 to 6 through wednesday. So traveling on i94, i35 rather, you could have some slick travel there. You go a little bit farther south towards sioux falls and green bay, were looking at 1 to 3 inches of snow through wednesday. Now lets talk about the Great Lakes Region out towards chicago, not too much happening there right now, but the rain is approaching. And were going to see this pushing more to the east. So right around midnight tonight well start to see some of the rain moving toward chicago. So watch the futurecast as it fills in, the cold air starts to move into the northcentral. So that accumulating snowfall near duluth and minneapolis, down towards chicago, were seeing some of that steadier rain as we head into the overnight hours. And that rain will be with us throughout the day on wednesday. So likely could see some travel delays out of ohare, st. Paul, minneapolis and it will be a slick day for sure. The snow staying to our north, north of i94, where well have a bit of a mix. Brittany, thank you very much. In the meantime, security concerns are front and center in new york with the big parade. So they dont try to take anything out of the mix here and prepare for the worst, just in case, fox news correspondent Rick Leventhal is on the parade route and what they are doing to make sure things are safe. Rick . Reporter neil, sandfilled trucks are a big part of this years security plan. And the nypd said its never been better prepared to protect those millions of people expected to flock here yet again for this thanksgiving day parade. Just a couple of days away. And all the folks will likely see members of the nypd, the elite Critical Response command out in force, counter elite Critical Response command out in force. Counterterror squads fully trained and deployed with heavy weapons and radiation detectors on high alert for any possible isisinspired copy cat terror attacks. This is not something new to us here in new york city. Weve deployed blocker car vehicles and we create a safe perimeter around events all the time. And were going to use additional sand trucks. Department and sanitation sand trucks. Somebody can hit them, but they will not move. Reporter officers are also focussed below ground on the worlds busiest and largest subway system offering simple advice and the nearly 6 Million People that ride the rails here every single day. We ask people to be aware, be alert. When trains are pulling in and out of this station, thats not a good time to be on your phone. Reporter one other word of warning, neil, someone left the freezer door wide open here in new york city. You were not kidding. Man oh man. That came out of nowhere too. Rick leventhal, thank you. Thank you. To howard safer on how they want to keep the city safer. Commissioner, what do you make of the precautions theyre taking. Obviously they dont want a repeat of events in france, but it does add a new element of security to keeping folks safe, doesnt it . It does, but we live in very dangerous times, neil. And the fact is, theyre going to take 81 sanitation sand trucks, theyre going to put them on every street on the parade route. What this is is basically youre taking a place, youre making a perimeter thats like a fortress, but at the same time you have to let millions of people who to want have a good time into the area. So basically, theyre going to create chutes, there are going to be 3,000 Police Officers out there. Both in uniform and undercover. Looking to see anything thats unusual. You know, there are no guarantees, but theres no better force in the world at stopping terrorists than the nypd. And you think about it too, commissioner, isis and some other operatives have put out warnings that this is the day to do something and this is the day to strike america. Its not as if theyre hiding their intentions, right . No, isis has actually put on its Propaganda Network that somebody should get a truck and attack the macys thanksgiving day parade the same way it was used in nice, and that would be a horrific tragedy, but basically the nypd is responding and responding the way they know how. This is something that we do all the time. Do you think too that people, i mean in new york used to see something, Say Something, and as weve often chatted over the years, i mean in new york and this area around times square, midtown, manhattan, almost anything you search warrant worth saying something. If youre advising people in the area, what should they be looking for that would be worth telling an officer about . You see something unusual. You see somebody who has excessive clothing on. You see somebody carrying a backpack when theyre going not let backpacks into the parade. You see something doing something out of the ordinary, dont be embarrassed. Its much better to be a little overcall your attention than to have a tragedy. But, you know, see something, Say Something is very important. The recent bombing that we had in new york because a citizen found that second device, it avoided another great tragedy. Youre right about that. While i have you here, commissioner, id be remiss if i didnt mention the unusual security conundrum presented by president elect donald trump working out of trump tower were told, melania and barron his wife and child will not be joining him in the white house. At least initially while barron finishes the school year. That just adds a whole other level of high security in one of the most trafficked areas on the planet, huh . Well, you know, its compartmentalization. Youll have to compartmentalize trump tower, negative effect on buildings and it is a public area. Youre going to have to scrutiny everyone that goes into the atrium. The secret service will have responsibility for the people, the nypd will have responsibility for the perimeter, there will be heavy weapons teams deployed. Therell be all kinds of technology, and this is the kind of thing that is a challenge, but a challenge that certainly the nypd is up to. And will meet. Who is in charge then, commissioner . You know, security around mr. Trump and secret Service Takes care of that and the family. Working in conjunction and the this city outside trump tower. How does that work . Secret service is responsible for the movements, the secret service is possible for the inler perimeter. The nypd, which rolls out thousands of Police Officers whenever the president moves will be responsible for keeping the outer area safe. And they will work very closely with the secret service. Lets face it, the secret service is a very small organization. The nypd has over 35,000 Police Officers. They cant exist to do their job without help from state and local police. And they know it and theyre probably one of the easiest organizations to get along with in the federal government. This will be a first though right . A first family that might not all be together, theyll be spread out, at least initially in the first year or so of the Trump Administration, huh . It will present challenges. Secret services has details all over the place. When you think about former president s visiting heads of state youre right. Think what have we do during the General Assembly when we have 130 leaders from countries with every kind of political kind of person here in new york city. Theyve done it. This is new york, question handle this. Commissioner, thank you, have a great thanksgiving my friend. You too neil. Thanks. We hit 19,000 today, but that wasnt even the half of it. After this.
