In Miamidade County in florida is one of the countrys Biggest School systems. The superintendent has warned that his schools may have to stay closed and the fall. We are still in phase one, phase one which has degraded over the last few weeks. Many schools that do plan to reaction will do so on the restrictions and no basis in science. Nonwhite kids would go back to school first while white kids would be ordered to stay home until the various subsides. Today educators would much rather be with our students in person but our number one responsibility is to keep our students safe. Thats a lie. There is only one way for educators to keep their students safe right now and that is to teach them in person by reopening schools. Distance learning is not learning. This has been studied and we know it. When los angeles schools protect the participation and Distance Learning theyve found exactly what you would expect them to find. On any given day fully a third of students never logged in at all. Twothirds of teachers reported that students were less likely to complete assignments once they began socalled Distance Learning. According to one recent body of research, students who have been learning online lose far more their knowledge of this winter r break them they typically do. So Distance Learning is not a substitute for actual learning and you know that well if you have kids whove been trying in.
