Uninterrupted bait moderated by our own Chris Wallace and with the election only 35 days away, both candidates will be working to solidify their base and pick up some undecided voters if they can and they paint their opponent unworthy of office. Martha is the opening question ticks closer, lets check in with the outlook for the Biden Campaign with correspondent peter doocy. Good evening, peter. Martha, good evening. When joe biden gets hard questions, he sometimes reacts harshly, like six months ago when he was challenged by a factory worker about his record on the second amendment. [bleep]. [indiscernible]. But if theres one kind of question that biden really doesnt like, its the kind about whether or not he still got it, like this one from a reporter curious about whether biden had taken a cognitive te test. No, i havent taken a test. Why would i take a test . Come on, man thats like saying you before you got this program, take a test where youre taking cocaine or not, what do you think . Are you a junkie . And the trump team is signaling they plan to try and elevate questions about bidens mental ability and about his son, hunter biden, at the debate tonight, and we have already seen how he reacts when voters streamline those story lines into a single query. Hes a liar, man. Thats not true. Let him go. Let him go. The reason im running is because ive been around a long time and i [indiscernible]. Thats why im running. If you want to check my shape, lets do pushups together. Lets run. There are not many places to run outside of the debate hall here because of all the secret service fences, but we do expect to see biden and trumps motorcades rolling here to the debate site momentarily, martha. Martha exciting night, peter, thank you very much. So joining us now with what to expect from joe biden tonights former president ial candidate and former mayor of south bend, indiana, pete buttigieg, who is now a surrogate for the Biden Campaign. Mayor pete, great daddy with us and i, thank you for being here. Good to be with you. Martha i cant help but wonder when you look at tonight and you might think about what might have been, there was a time when you are one of the front runners in this group of candidates who was running and i just want to look back to a moment on a former debate stage. This is between you and the former Vice President joe biden. Watch. We need a perspective right now that will finally allow us to leave the politics of the past in the past. Turn the page and bring change to washington before its too late. Politics of the past i think were not all that bad so i dont know what about the past of barack obama and joe biden was so bad. If what happened . What is it that he wants to do away with . We were just beginning. At those achievements phenomenally important because they met the moment. But now we have to meet this moment. In this moment is different. Martha so you are good at that point that it was time to turn the page, but the moment in america is different now and joe biden obviously was the winner in that primary contest, one of the biggest points the president will bring up against him is that hes been in washington for 47 years, so what do you think about that as we get ready for tonight . I think what we are going to see tonights two very different people with two very different ideas of what matters. We are going to see President Trump turn on the distraction machine like he always does. He will pick up something crazy to get the twittersphere going. Advice present biden is going to be talking about us. Not us political figures, us, the American People. And how our lives would be different and better if we had a president who actually leveled with the American People instead of lying about the coronavirus, a president who actually understood what it was like to come up in the middle class instead of being born a multimillionaire and then using tax tricks not to have to pay a share. We just want to see two fundamentally different people with fundamentally different visions and on the issues, the American People already agree with joe biden, so im looking forward to seeing him make that case tonight. Martha you did argue though that it was time to turn the page and one of the things that youve talked about was the need to increase the numbers on the Supreme Court. Now that is an issue that could be front and center and yet joe biden, when asked about it, and Kamala Harris as well when asked about it, today refused to answer that question. What do you say to them about that . I think the focus right now is on a very immediate fight thats coming before the senate in a matter of days and its got very real, very personal applications for so many americans, including members of my family. Remember, the Supreme Court could throw out preexisting condition coverage in a matter of days. This is an incredibly immediate concern and weve got all kinds of views in our party and a big fan of bipartisan reforms to reduce the politicization of the bench. Right now weve got a much more immediate issue on our hands and im with the majority of the American People who believe that the next president ought to pick the next Supreme Court justice and this is another example of where the American People already agree with joe biden, so im looking forward to seeing him at the opportunity to speak directly to the American People tonight. Martha nonetheless, this is an issue going to come up. Tonight i would imagine and i imagine it will come up next week as well. And you have been playing the role of mike pence in helping Kamala Harris get ready for that debate. So what is she going to say when that does come up . Because she danced around the issue today and i do think its an issue that americans do feel is at the front of the conversation. If they choose joe biden in this justice is on the bench before then, we are likely to see a situation where theres an argument to expand the court. I think she and Vice President biden like most americans right now are focused on this appointment in front of us right now and we dont have the luxury of talk about i mean i love academic issues about reform and i will continue to take an interest in them, but right now, i mean, in a matter of days, our health care is on the line. Thats what most americans are focused on and thats what Vice President biden and Kamala Harris are going to continue to talk about, because this isnt about some arcane and obscure point legal academia. This is about how our lives go differently when the Supreme Court does things like take away our health care. This is deadly serious stuff and we are not going to get distracted by issues that are further down the road. Martha so how do you like playing mike pence . We just had him on a little while ago, you are both from indiana, i would expect thats one of the reasons you were chosen. You have some pretty strong familiarity with him from back home. Are not going to get any behindthescenes stuff, but youre right martha come on. I was mayor of south bend when mike pence was governor and look, i dont envy the job is going to have to do next week. You know, a professed christian who is going to be in a position of defending the character of a president who got caught sending hush money to a porn star. If a person whos been placed in charge of the Coronavirus Task force leading a natural Response National response, this country having the worst coronavirus outbreak in the world so on the issues hes in a tough spot, but he is lavishly an effective politician and an effective debater, thats part of why he is where he is. Im looking forward to watching that debate just as im looking forward to watching the debate tonight. Martha as our way, mayor pete buttigieg, thank you very much. Great to have you here tonight, thanks for coming in. Great to be with you, thanks. Martha so after traveling with the president on air force one today, ohio congressman jim jordan is here with some insight on how the president is feeling about the big night. Bret we will hear from mayor eric garcetti, the national cochair of bidens campaign, keep it here as we continue coverage ahead of this debate. My grandma. My cousin. My greatgreat grandmother. She was all of 411 but very tenacious. A very independent woman. Driven, passionate. Embodied grit, perseverance. She marched. She wrote. She demanded. She was proud to pass on a legacy of civic mindedness to her descendants. Im very proud to carry on her story. All her story find their stories. Make them count. At ancestry. Find their stories. Make them count. And then theres the best. We like cage free, and which ones just taste fresher and more flavorful . Only egglands best. We prefer organic, and which ones have 6 times more vitamin d and 25 less saturated fat . Only egglands best. My family deserves the best, and which egg is the best in so many ways . Only egglands best. Better taste, better nutrition, better eggs. Bret President Trump is heading into tonights main event as a bit of an underdog, trailing joe biden by about six points in the National Average of polls, a wider margin than in 2016 when he trailed Hillary Clinton by less than three points heading into the first debate. Martha President Trump also presented with a surprise from the bidenharris camp in the form of tax returns, but not his own. Chief White House Correspondent john roberts here in cleveland, good evening, john. Martha, bret, good evening to you, lets break that down into a little more granularity. On this day back in 2016 President Trump let Hillary Clinton in the battle gone state of ohio by two points, today he trails joe biden by just over 3. So President Trump goes into tonights debate not only the underdog nationally, but also here in this important battleground state in order to turn around those numbers. The president s campaign believes he needs to hit joe biden on his ability to be president , to do something, to make it look like joe biden is not up to the job number to either force into lessening out or making a mistake during this debate. Trump cam trunk and pain officis believe the best way to do that is to go after joe biden on hunter biden in the millions of dollars that hunter biden allegedly made in ukraine, china, and russia and what joe biden knew about what his son may have been doing. This in here to kayleigh mcenany. The real questions are for hunter biden, wed seen that senate report, 3. 5 million from the moscow mayors wife. President trump eight u. S. Treasury, russia paid hunter biden. The president s biggest vulnerability is likely on his response to coronavirus. Karl rove saying earlier today that the president needs to go on offense and point of what joe biden and his advisors were saying about coronavirus one biden brings that up tonight, which is almost certain that he will. Biden, no doubt, is going to go after President Trump is well on the New York Times tax story. Biden adding some fuel to the fire today by releasing his and his running mate Kamala Harris tax returns. Biden and his wife paying just under 300,000 in federal taxes on income of just under a Million Dollars, Kamala Harris and her husband paying more than a Million Dollars in taxes on some 3. 1 million in income. While biden and harris income puts them solidly in the top 1 of income earners, which isnt exactly workingclass salary, they will be able to say, bret and martha, that they paid their fair share of taxes, which may make it difficult for the president to explain in tonights debate why he paid so little. Bret all right, john, thank you. Here now, Los Angeles Mayor eric garcetti, national cochair of the biden for president campaign. Mayor, thanks for being here. Great to be with you, bret, thanks for having me. Bret what is former Vice President bidens strategy heading into tonight . Weve got so much momentum, weve got momentum here in ohio, with that momentum in pennsylvania. In fact, President Trump is playing defense and everyone of the swing states that he won last time. I think its because people can see the proof in their lives, not about kind of fantastical suit conspiracies about earpieces or russia but about their health care, about what happened under covid, about our economy and those failed promises of the incumbent. Thats really what tonight is about, thats what this election is about, a referendum if its this bad after four years of donald trump, imagine four more years, so we are excited not to have a mud fight but to actually talk about what American People are suffering through and our plans to do something about it. Bret you rightly point out that in the National Polls and key battleground States Joe Biden does hold leads in the polls. A little bit bigger than Hillary Clinton did. We remember 2016. How much stock does the campaign, the Biden Campaign put in polls . Welcome we are taking nothing for granted. I think these polls are probably even more accurate than 2016. I think there are fewer people that are shy about who theyre voting for like in 2016, but look, we are going on in whistle stop tour tomorrow, going to the heartland here of ohio, those factory towns like were President Trump promised the factories would come back and they havent. Going to the working centers of pennsylvania, this is really scranton against, you know, wall street and park avenue. This is about those folks that are struggling to pay their taxes and those who twist the rules, to try to play in their own ways for their own cronies. I think its pretty clear to americans that we all pay more probably in one month of taxes than President Trump paid in a year. That is something that is fundamentally unamerican. If youre rich, no problem, but pay her fair share or if youre not, admit that youre a failed businessman and get on with it, but you cant have it both ways. Bret the president beasley pushes back on that story and we are calling for him to provide that evidence. He says hes under audit. Want to ask you a couple more things. One is the push by some progressives in the nation to Defund Police departments. We understand where the former Vice President has said is position is your home city of los angeles kind of helped lead that by cutting 150 million from the Police Budget in july. But you have places like Minneapolis City Council now openly regretting the decision to push for that effort as they are seeing crime on the rise. If you think this is a do you think this is a big issue in your party about wanting to declare where joe biden is in where progressives are on this issue . I think its very clear for those of us that are on the front lines. We are getting haircuts not in just Police Departments but in Fire Departments as we put our firefighters on the line, our Health Care Workers who are defending a solid saving lives in covid19. We have a president who has not stepped up to help local governments and State Governments. Joe biden is not in favor of defunding the police. Im not in favor of defunding the police. I am in favor of refunding communities that have been overlooked by this president bret the city council did. We have had a cut across all of our departments, including the police department, but that is something thats a result because this president has not stood up. I think here in ohio the mayor of toledo who put it best, the only person defunding the police is President Trump by not passing assistance for local and State Government so we will continue to tell that put their lives in the line. Two sheriffs deputies that were shot and brutally attacked in los angeles county, but we need the money to support them. You cant just say support First Responders and not actually fund them with the federal funds that we have been waiting for every single day. These are the people who are saving us from covid, people saving us from fires and i think that squarely lands on President Trump and his inability to help americas local communities. Bret we will hear what President Trump says about that and the issues on the list. Mayor, we appreciate your time. Real pleasure to be with you, thanks for having me. Martha also here tonight, ohio congressman jim jordan who traveled with the president on air force one to cleveland today, representative jordan, good to have you with us tonight. What can you tell us about what can you tell us about the trip here . The president has been called an underdog in this race quite a bit lately. What kind of mood is he in and what kind of attitude has in this fight . Never underestimate President Trump. Hes in a great mood. Remember it was five years ago in this very city when he first took the stage, center of the stage, never left the center of the stage. I think redefined politics in that very first debate here in cleveland five years ago, so look, hes going to talk about the Amazing Things hes done in three and a half years for the American People, done what he said he would do. Taxes cut, regulations reduced, economy growing at an unbelievable pace before covid. Lowest on a plummeted 50 years come out of the iran deal, embassy in jerusalem, new nafta agreement, building the wall, now rebuilding our economy postcovid and of course neil gorsuch, kavanaugh on the court and Coney Barrett on deck. Thats amazing record in three and half years, contrast that with joe bidens foreign a half decades in public life. That would be what i think the American People will see tonight and they will see through out the remainder of this campaign. Martha so in terms of joe biden, the president has said that joe biden hasnt really been tested, he doesnt go out for a lot of interviews. He spent a lot of the portion of his campaign in a basement. He has gotten out in recent weeks and this is actually the first time hes flown to a swing state. So what the president going to do to sort of reveal what he feels the media has not . Well, i think maybe the first thing joe biden will do is announce hes running for president. For goodness sakes, i think perhaps this month hes put 9 30 in the morning. Maybe you get up and have a cup of coffee and call it a day. The American People havent seen him for four or five months of this campaign. Theyve sure seen the president and a schedule hes kept in their compliments hes done. I think that will be something that will be highlighted as well by the president. Their records, their lack joe bidens lack of engagement with the American People, the first guy to run for president by never running for president. Ive never seen anything like it. Martha representative, so what i ask you is what did he reveal on the plane about how hes going to go after joe biden . Whats his strategy . What kind of stance you might are not going to get into strategy and tactics of the president. He will be ready like he always is. Look, the one thing i know about this president is he knows how to win. He thinks like an athlete, he competes, he will be i think ready to go tonight and he will win the debate. Martha before i let you go, the new reuters paul out tonight, half of americans say they dont believe the president pays enough in taxes. What do you say to that and what you expect we will here on out tonight . He paid what he owed, he gives back his salary, hes done it every single year and he cut taxes for the American People for every family in this country. I mean the real question is, what did hunter biden in the biden family take from the russians and from the chinese all while the president was doing that . Frankly, the president has given 1. 6 million back to the american taxpayer and the fact that his salary is 400,000, hes given it back each and every year. I think the American People appreciate that. Martha what about aca . Is going to be a lot of talk about that, that americans cant risk the Supreme Court nominee because she is going to got aca up she gets the opportunity, what to tell them about that . What do you say . Shes a great pick and remember, the socalled Affordable Care act has been anything but. Most people have went up since president obama passed that and never forget i think this is so important to understand about obamacare. All the lies they told us about that when a pastor, if you like a doctor, keep her doctor, premiums will go down, they said they would go down an average 2500. Deductibles will go down, they said the website was going to work. This of the website was secure, they said these coops they created were going to be wonderful, every single one of them has went bankrupt. Thats the Affordable Care act the democrats think is so great . I want to have affordable insurance for American Family so they can pick the plan that fits their families need and so does the president of the United States and thats what he fight for, thats what republicans will fight for if we are given the opportunity on election day. Martha congressman jordan, thank you very much, good to have you here tonight. You bet, thank you, martha. Bret up next, the governor of ohio, mike dewine on how the issue of covid19 could play prominently for both candidates tonight. We are back in cleveland. Awarded network. This network is one less thing i have to worry about. Then, give families plans to mix and match, so you only pay for what you need. I need this color. Include the best in entertainment like apple music, and offer it at a price built for everyone. With the stunning iphone 11. Now get two for just 5 per month. One for you and another to share. And 250 when you switch. The network more people rely on gives you more. Thats verizon. You know limu,g after all these years its the ones that got away that haunt me the most. [ squawks ] cause youre not like everybody else. Thats why Liberty Mutual customizes your car insurance, so you only pay for what you need. What . Oh, i said. Uh, this is my floor. Nooo only pay for what you need. Liberty. Liberty. Liberty. Liberty. Bret among the topics of tonights president ial debate, covid19s devastating toll on American Life and livelihood. Now President Trump has responded to the crisis. Martha i recently sat down with women voters here in ohio suburb called North Olmsted and they talked about the topic, watch. Speak of the cases are being hyped but its clear the deaths are going down, which matters to me, because we do health and safety matters but i do think there is some political gain to it. I view the National Response to the virus as categorically terrible. Id be thrilled with Republican Leadership and ohio. Ive been thrilled with the way that ohio has approached it from a very common sense, sciencebased perspective. Martha so joining us now Ohio Governor mike dewine, thank you for being here. I did have an interesting conversation with a number of your constituents the other day and as you can hear there, deborah gave you very high marks for how you handled covid in ohio. But she was not a fan of how it was handled at the federal level and that continues in the polls to be a problem with this president , what do you say to that of the people of ohio and across this country . The average voter is not on the calls we have every week with the governors on the Vice President , sometimes with the president , but the Vice President , you know, acting for the president , has done a great job. These are calls where we just get right down to it, what do you need . And the administration is very, very forthcoming. I think yesterdays announcement, i will tell you, this could be just a game changer. These are these strip tests that are in large quality, theyre going to be coming to ohio and every state of the union and as a governor who was fighting us every day, im just delighted to have these coming in the effort from the white house, theyve worked with abbott and they got it done and its going to make a difference, its going to help us on nursing homes. Its going to help us get more kids back in school, help us keep kids in school, so i think its a major, major thing and you know, i think when people see that rolled out over the next several weeks, they are going to understand how important it is. Bret you know, governor, former Vice President biden is clearly going to hit this hard, would like to hit covid and President Trumps handling of it throughout this debate. Youve known joe biden for years and years. How do you see this debate and where it stands going in . I think people are missing, sometimes, but joe biden is an excellent debater. I watched him i sat on the judiciary committee, he was chairman some of the years, other years he was the ranking democrat, but either way, he was a strong debater, he went after witnesses in a very expert way and you know, if you got in a debate with him you knew you were in a tough debate so i think when people look at whats going on tonight, they need to remember that joe biden is an experienced debater and thats what youre going to see tonight. Martha one of the issues that is sort of unavoidable here is, you know, the former Vice President s age and how he is on his feet and the fact that he has spent so much of his campaign not leaving the house. I mean, whats your assessment as someone who has known him for all those years . Do think he is as, you know, on the money and with it as he used to be . Well, i have no indication hes not. But i think, if you look at this debate, the president , he is the incumbent, hes been in peoples living room every single day. Joe biden, for many voters, even though hes been around, been in politics 47, eight years, whatever. For most voters, even though he was Vice President , they dont really focus on somebody until the point where theyre going to be potentially the next president , so for 90 minutes tonight, millions of americans are going to some extent if the real reintroduction to joe biden, so i think, you know, hes got a lot at stake and a lot riding on this. Bret governor, weve appreciated our time here in cleveland and they are doing a great job. Safetywise. Thank you very much, good to be with you. We also have help the indians win tonight, beat the yankees. Bret [laughs] had to throw that in there. All right, governor, thanks. Up next, authorities prepare for protests here in cleveland side, possibly, but first we will give you a tour of our fox news work space here. This is the fox campus here for the debate. Bret welcome back to cleveland, more than 300 National Guardsmen along with the fbi, local police, secret service all here in the city tonight for some businesses board up in anticipation of protests. Martha black lives matter cleveland among the groups to expected to demonstrate the height of tonights debate. Mike tobin is on the ground here in cleveland. Good evening, mike. Hi, there, martha. I put the number at about 400 demonstrators, just south of the art museum on the north side of the lagoon here and youve got the people, you can call this a peaceful protest, marching around, not really doing anything other than making their voices heard. Theres also a large presence of law enforcement. We saw them in action at right around the time the president a motorcade arrived. A couple of young men and hoods crossed the barrio. They got within a hundred feet and cleveland bite cops apprehended them. They loaded them into a white van and whisked them off. Neither the police or secret service are releasing details on that. There are number of items that are banned in the area of the big event tonight, those include flammable liquids, fireworks, things like brass knuckles and lumber, and that is why police from Shaker Heights took a number of the signs that the refused Fascism Group had for their demonstration. But the police measured those signs and figure they are within the guidelines and say they cant be wider than 2 inches. Within the guidelines, so they gave all of those signs back. But with all of the attention being paid to potential weapons, we found one attendee here who was openly carrying a semiautomatic sidearm. Heres what he had to say. I noticed your arm. How come . Because what happened in kenosha is not going to happen here in cleveland. What happened here in wisconsin is not going to happen in ohio. So of the demonstrators out here, they are blm demonstrato demonstrators, Climate Change demonstrators, the group refused fascism. There was one conservative group that was flying banners over the town earlier today. Bret and martha. Bret all right, mike, thank you. Martha breaking tonight, a federal Appeals Court its upholding a six day extension for counting absentee ballots in wisconsins president ial election. That decision means that ballots postmarked on or before novembes long as they are received by november 9th. Bret its a big deal, it could mean the winter in wisconsin will not be known for days after the polls close. Republicans are likely to appeal that case to the u. S. Supreme court but there were 29 states now sending out ballots. A lot of people already voting as this debate gets underway tonight. Martha coverage is going to be days and days it looks like. So Supreme Court nominee amy Coney Barrett meeting with senators on the hill today as her confirmation battle heats up with exactly five weeks to go until the election. Karl rove, Katie Pavlich and Juan Williams are next. First, the voice of the people. When you talk to your friends about the election, what are the things that people are arguing about or talking about that concern you right now . Theres a lot going on. Does a lot of division. I just wish we had a candidate that could bring people together instead of separating im getting frustrated with the twoparty system. I dont know. I dont know what the answer is. What you think of President Trump . Did you vote for him last time . Honestly last election i went about and i couldnt vote for either one. It might happen again . It might happen again this time. Because have you had a chance to take a look at amy Coney Barrett . I havent looked at her closely, no. I would hope that we would have had the same respect and delay in choosing the judge until after the election, like obama did. Bret President Trumps Supreme Court nominee has begun the process of meeting with senators who will ultimately decide whether she gets a spot on the bench. Judge amy Coney Barrett started off at the top. Mike emanuel shows a semi. Judge amy Coney Barrett started making the rounds, hoping to secure votes for confirmation. The Supreme Court nominee had a vip escort and Vice President mike pence to get her started. Day one featured meetings with a republican senators, including Chuck Grassley of iowa, who said judge barrett has a good chance of getting his boat. I usually dont say that until everything is over. But judge barrett has quite a record to go on during the time she was on the court. So im looking forward to learning more in just a few minutes now with her and then i will be attending and asking questions. Republican senators say its part of the job meeting with a Supreme Court nominee, something at least six democrats are refusing to do. A leading Senate Republican fired back today saying her confirmation is very legitimate and very constitutional. We are looking forward to a good wholesome discussion and obviously a process that gives you time and consideration for individual senators to articulate their views, ask her questions, and then we are looking moving forward with that process and getting her a vote. Some progressives argue democrats should pack the Supreme Court if they win the white house and take back majority in the senate but the democratic nominee for Vice President sidestepped that issue. We are actually in the election, people started voting, people have been voting. Almost a million americans have voted and they have a right in an election to elect their next president who then will make the decision about who will be the nominee. As a member of the judiciary committee, harris will participate in judge barretts hearings. Bret, martha. Bret mike, thanks. Martha lets bring in our panel, Juan Williams cohost of the five. Katie pavlich and karl rove, former deputy chief of staff to president george w. Bush. When you take a look at these senators who are choosing not to meet with amy Coney Barrett, i know a lot of them were very upset when republicans did that with merrick garland, so you know, how do two wrongs make a right here . Well, i dont know that it makes a right, martha. I think essentially its saying listen, we are not going to extend this courtesy to judge barrett because it wasnt extended ten months out to judge garland. So i think they say also that when it comes to this nomination, unlike garland, its unprecedented in terms of the compressed time schedule. Bret karl, set the table for us tonight, what are the key things are looking for for this debate . Well, im looking for the first 30 minutes, how they both come out, because that will set the tone for the evening. Viewership will be highest then. Im looking for surprise. I think both men are going to come to the debate stage with something that when they finish delivering that argument or that punch or that response we are going to say where did that come from . Because they are planning some surprises for us. Finally, im looking for tone. The winner of this debate in the minds of the people that are up for grabs is going to be the one that seems to be more likable with a vision that seems to be e sense for the future and sets in contrast an appropriate way with their opponent so they understand what th stakes are ad that will go a long way in deciding how they come out of the end of the evening. Martha so katie, what are you hoping to hear from President Trump tonight, and what would you be disappointed if you dont hear him get in there tonight . Well, i think the president is really going to focus on his economic achievements before the coronavirus entered the country and i would be disappointed if he did not, when joe biden brings up how he has handled a pandemic, if he doesnt hearken back to the Obama Administration and how they handled the swine flu, which also turned into a pandemic and left a lot of the ppe supplies without proper or substantial restocking so that we can handle the situation. I would also be disappointed if he didnt focus on what democrats were talking about when the virus came into the country, the issue of impeachment is not something we heard a whole lot about and the president is going to have to make the argument that you saw what i did with the economy beforehand, it was the best economy without an overly long time, want to go back to a Joe Biden Obama policy set where we have gdp that is the slowest growth since world war ii. We can do that but if you look at what i have planned for you moving forward, we will go back to an era of economic growth, which of course affects everyone positively in the country. Weve seen that with the Democrat Members the president has oft repeated [indiscernibl [indiscernible]. Bret katie, sound like that helicopter is landing on you. Its very loud and windy. Bret [laughs] martha didnt even flinch. It was also there when i called on here. So thats good. Bret all right, listen, juan, joe biden, after a day of backandforth of this negotiation predebate about the Trump Campaign saying there was a negotiation about your pieces, about the Biden Campaign saying that the Trump Campaign said that they didnt want Chris Wallace to say the number of covid debts. Joe biden just a few minutes ago tweeted out this period of he said i have my earpiece and my performance enhancers ready and it is an ice cream, salted butter chocolate flex. A little trolling by the democratic nominee, juan. Well, you know, its all so entertaining, all kind of a lead up to the big moment that we are anticipating tonight. Its kind of ridiculous at some level, drug test, transmitters in someones head. You know, i dont know. At some point you want to say okay, enough with the juvenile antics, lets go for a real debate, lets go for substance. When we get into this debate tonight i think of the president wants to make it a choice and he needs to articulate the vision that katie was talking about. What is his second term agenda . And i think joe biden, for his part, wants to say to the American People, youve got a safe alternative to what biden will say has been the chaos and the juvenile behavior, the twitter storms, that weve experienced over the last four years. Bret we should point out that both campaigns denied with the other campaign said. We covered that backandforth in those statements. Karl is this a normal thing what you saw today . Well, no. There really are trying to get inside each others brains. I would for the record point out two things. One is, the ice cream that was shown in a tweet from joe biden is the same ice cream that was in Nancy Pelosis refrigerator when she opened the door. I know that because i eat jenis ice cream as well. Really good stuff. Martha its an ohio company. Its in ohio company. There we go. Second of all, look, this is not the first time. You may remember, i think it was a 2004 debate, president bush had a bad suit that had a bump on the back of it and the theory was that i had put a transmitter in his back and i was talking in his ear the entire debate. The guy who never graduated college was guiding the guy whoo is a yale history major and harvard mba. This is not the first time its come up, but its all an attempt to get inside each others heads and its frankly useless, it really doesnt work. Bret got. Martha so obviously some people here in ohio and some of them said that they wanted to hear substance tonig tonight, that they didnt like all this backandforth. I asked him specifically about the drug test issue. I want to hear what the vision is for the next term, so you know, katie, when you look at that, that is really the job that lies before the president tonight, to be, you know, president ial, to reach out to some of the voters who maybe dont love the chaos that much and show the vision and the way forward. How do you see that and how do you want to review that . Martha, watching her interviews with local voters in ohio, i can imagine that other voters, swing voters in places like pennsylvania and wisconsin feel very similar and you can see when theyre giving you those answers, but it pains them, they have a very tough choice to make, these are decisions that affect their livelihood and their lives moving forward, whether it covid or health care or the economy. This is a top choice for them and both candidates tonight have to make the case this isnt just vote for me because im not the other guy, vote for me because i will make your life easier come november and come Inauguration Day in january 2021. Bret weve talked about this a lot. Its now an hour in 4 minutes away. Panel, thank you very much. Martha you know, bill hemmer is from ohio and he thanks you guys, hes a big [indiscernible] ice cream fan. Its also great ohio ice cream. We are going to take a quick break, special coverage continues right after this. Stay with us. Jared . Im hearing the most awful things, people shouting at me. Its ok. Eastern, the first president ial debate of the 2020 election cycle. Live from cleveland, ohio, just 60 minutes from now, and yet it is still hard to believe this is really going to happen, apparently it is. Joe biden, hes run for president three times. At no point up until the moment he unexpectedly won the democratic nomination had the people around him taken biden seriously as a National Political leader. Barack obama certainly didnt, he famously mocke j
