You contrast, martha, the way the media and the experts have talked about this trump rally, this one trump rally where its around 20,000 people that can be in attendance in this arena with the way that they discuss the protest we had thousands of people all across this country. Some of the cities had the highest covid rate, the entire nation and yet nobody had a problem with that. We are actually putting in so many precautions for brads tweets. We are giving hand sanitizer, checking temperatures, giving masks so we are taking as many precautions as possible but again nobody has to attend the rally. This is a choice and a freedom we should all have in america. Martha but the the concern is someone will have it, not know they have it and they potentially get a superspreader situation and that they go home and give it to someone who is older and more compromised. That is the concern. It doesnt sound like what the president said there will be any social distancing. He wants every seat in that place filled. Will there be social distancing and are masks going to be mandatory or not . We are offering people masks. If they choose to wear them, we are happy with that. If they choose not to wear them we are not going to go around and of course everybody wear a mask. We will encourage it, course. I would point to hypocrisy time and time again. Your argument they are that so many people make super starter, the same thing and all of these protest across the country. Only in a trump rally whenever there is one trump rally that everybody panics and says, oh, gosh. Martha i get it. I think that hypocrisy is real. We pointed it out quite a bit. One of the questions, this is the biggest gathering anybody has seen inside a closed arena. I just think everyone obviously is a little bit nervous about that. You know, i have been outside. You know, i go about everything as normal as possible. But why didnt you guys, im just curious, why didnt you consider doing this in an outside arena giving people more space and lowering the numbers a little bit of people who could attend . Well, this is something once we decided to go forward with the trump rally from oklahoma was the first state to lift their covid restrictions which is why we chose them as the destination. It worked out this was an arena available. Obviously, we will do more trump rallies and that will be outdoors. This is just a way that it shook out here. We havent seen, martha the dramatic rise in covid cases following the protest that we saw all across the country. I think a lot of people would argue, is the concern that great . Is it necessary for us to social distance as the experts for so long have said . I think a lot of people could argue against that. Again, this is a choice people have to make. If you want to attend the trump rally, but not everybody has to come. Maybe you are a person highrisk. Then you dont want to go. Martha i hope nobody gets it at this arena. Nobody holds that it goes anything except perfectly for everybody there. I think it is sort of sad that nobody is focused on what the president actually said at his address at west point. And just general trend we are seeing in the polls. Look, it is a very hard time for our country. Joe biden has been hiding away in the basement. We havent seen that much of him, but when he does come out, martha, he makes a lot of mistakes. They are trying to keep them hidden away. You just said it. We have a long time really until november 3rd, until election day. We saw and i always tell you the polls do not accurately reflect the sentiments of people in 2016. The day before the election the polls said that Hillary Clinton would be the next president. Those were wrong. I think they are more incorrect now than they ever were. We saw recently only 25 republicans were sampled and a major poll in the country. So we never put a lot into those poles. I am absolutely worried about protesters getting covid19 and spreading it, especially in big cities. The president of the United States is supposed to set an example for the entire nation. What he is doing is holding a mass gathering indoors in tulsa, oklahoma. I never thought that oklahoma was a swing state and that the president thinks oklahoma is in play. The g. O. P. They are demanding murder charges for the officers involved in the friday night shooting death in atlanta. The medical examiners ruled it homicide as gunshots in the back as you see in this horrific video as it plays out. He had a tosa with two Police Officers as they arrested him during a dui stop. Moments ago, we got brandnew audio of a 911 call played right before the incident. This is a woman who is describing brooks in the drivethrough of the wendys where the all of this began. Here it is. I have a car and i think hes intoxicated. Tried to wake him up but he is parked so i dont know whats wrong with him. Martha the officer who shot brooks, Garrett Garrett rolfe has been fired and the other placed on administrative duty. Prosecutors are considering criminal charges for both men. What goes through your mind when you listen to that released 911 call and you see, obviously what happened after that on this video . First, thank you for having me martha. What goes through my mind what they believe should go through the mind any person who cares about human life and that is pain appear that his anger and frustration at the loss of another human being particularly a young, black male, who frankly shouldnt be dead. When i look at the video and i hear the cries. When i think about not just this situation but numerous including george floyd, and others. We see amalgamation and proliferation of Police Brutality that plays out in front of our eyes and our screens far too often. We are far too confident with the death of black people in the country and its a problem. Burgess at once, your thoughts. First of all we should share the grief and nobody be killed in this manner. I think this is important though. And this process happen four years ago. Where the democrats the last four years . Every four years there is a riot. Every four years there is a way to try to divide us, to point out mistakes or incompetency of the police reports. By the way, the police force is ran by democratic mirrors. Shouldnt they be doing something to train these folks before it escalates in four years . Shouldnt they be working so the communities to get to know each other, serve and so we dont have this total anger between the two . By the way im im just really sick of the stereotyping. I grew up with stereotyping. Unfortunately, we have black leaders that jump in and taunt the police men because they put on a blue uniform and call it racism. They have 30, 40 million interactions every year. We have such a small group and we have this death in the black communities. Nobody is talking about black on black crime, black illiteracy. And we have these leakers, we never talk about that until a white person assaults a black man. If its wrong its wrong, peri period. And get out and vote. Martha those are strong comments, doctor. What is your reaction to that . Yes my think it is important that we reframe the language that we use. We talk about the looting and the like spear those terms are used to describe the legitimate discontent of the voices. The african public that say the young press is not embraced by the village they will burn it down to fill its warmth. So we have to ask questions about the systems and structures that create the atmosphere that we see in our cities and our communities. Not just in the United States but a Global Reality of black death and the pain in the community. So it is actually problematic to focus on black on black crime. Listen im a professor of the university of missouri. I can easily see whats wrong with my young brother, sister who may find themselves in a different situation or make a statement that i did not make. But the decisions are made in the context of opportunity. So to understand systematic oppression, the reality before black people for example could earn property, they have to stop being property. We understand the reality we see, the disproportionality has been created. Im not a person who eliminates personal choice, but again personal choices are related to opportunities. So we come back to these places every four years, not just every four years but a day of reality for people. And until we are willing to ask questions about the systems and structures to look at the history of this country, to look at the reality of the Police Department and the lack of training perhaps. I will be honest with you, with all do respect, we have people like this in all due respect, the kids should not be taught history is all about racism, not when we have the first black president. In the majority white country in the world, the first black president and the power we have. They were black men of atlanta. So lets get back to these kids that they have to be responsible and fight the businesses like georgetown butcher, by the way. Go there to support a black butcher. Im there supporting young, black voters. The right message is that we actually have to look at the both ends. The isolated situations of individual choices. I actually believe that many i have to leave it there, gentlemen, please real quick if you can. If i can quickly, can i share . Many of us watching might, evangelical brothers believe them all lives matter but also, all lives matter, black lives matter has to be valued. And so im encouraged and hopeful that those of us who get upset about abortions when a child is in the womb of a mother would also be upset and that unarmed gets killed by the police. Com coronavirus martha the family of las vegas Police Officer Shay Mikalonis releasing a sobering update on his condition after the 29yearold officer was shot during a protest after George Floyds death earlier this month. He was patrolling in the las vegas trip with local las vegas trip twin shots ring out across the street and a bullet pierced his spine lodging on the right side of his face. The bullet has been removed but he appears to be paralyzed from the neck down. And mikalonis remains on a ventilator unable to breathe on his own, but his family says he is awake and i am movement has been accepted into one of the nations premier spinal rehabilitation centers. Mikalonis who comes from Law Enforcement family has been metro Police Officer for four years and waylaid to praise for the response to the mass shooting of Las Vegas Strip in october 2017. At the time, mikalonis had been on the force one month. He is not married, does not have children but is close with his parents and effect just before he was shot, he called his father letting him know he was about to go protect the Las Vegas Strip. Arrested and charged with murder for deliberately shooting officer mikalonis. Martha we send our prayers to him and the family. We will stay on the story see where this goes. Definitely 29yearold Police Officer. Thankfully survived in an assassination attempt while he was working on the job. The reason why this probably happened is because of the narrative out there by black lives matter and the left. All right . This is occurring too often. These Police Officers are out there every day trying to fight crime, trying to stop all this rioting going on. And you know, an officer gets shot. It is just crazy. This has got to stop here this rhetoric has got to stop because its hurting everybody. Martha one of the things that comes up during all of this is what needs to change. When you watch that atlanta video i made is very disturbing. One of the things that we heard today from the mayor in atlanta is that, you know you only have to use the force required to bring someone in. Now we know that he turned the taser on the Police Officer, but when you watch that tape, there are several points at which he could have been restrained, peacefully brought into the Police Station or put back to the sisters house, what are your thoughts. When you watch that video he has been cooperative in the beginning. Once the Police Officers decide to place him under arrest, that is when he gets violent. Now, at that exact point, that is the time where the life of the Police Officer is in danger. He is going to do everything he can to get away from the Police Officers. Now, if hes got to wrestle a gun out of their holster or grab a taser, anything he has to do to get away from the officers, now, once he did get away from the officers that he did have the taser. Let taser him if he had that taser and tasered one of the officers come he could have easily went down and grabbed the guns and shot both officers. All of this is going through your mind when you are having a fight with a perpetrator like this. Then he ran off and the Police Officer chased him down. Martha obviously, this will be all prosecuted and investigated. We will follow it closely. I want to get one more word in here. This is dermot shay, who made a huge change today. Affecting complaint close officers eliminating 600 officers and that capacity of plainclothes and this is what he said to. This is a Seismic Shift in the culture of how the nypd police is this great city. It will be felt immediately throughout the five District Attorney offices. It will be felt immediately in the communities that we protect. Martha it affects the Detective Bureau and neighborhood policing. What is the impact of the move he made today, harry . I will tell you what, it is a crazy move. He should resign from his post for making a comment like that.
