Injuring another on friday. He still on the run. Authorities were not to approach him. Hes considered to be armed and dangerous. His parents are begging for him to turn himself in. For about 24 hours the trail on the suspect wasnt icecold. Police thought he was hiding in the woods but it turns out he had stolen another car in the poconos and made his way south. About 175 miles to chambersburg pennsylvania where he was spotted yesterday at a gas station convenience store. Thats also where he dumped the stolen car, jumped in and huber, and crossed into maryland. The police are focusing the search on hagerstown, maryland, about 75 miles west of all tomorrow. Peter manfredonia has been on the run now five days across four states and he still believed to be carrying a large duffel bag filled with guns he sold during his alleged rampage. On friday investigators say he was in wilmington can connecticut 25 miles northeast of hartford when he attacked two older men with a machete, killing one and seriously wounding the other. Police say he then broke into the home of a 73yearold man, and stole it to another location where he allegedly killed a 23yearold male acquaintance and kidnapped the mans girlfriend. The suspect and the girlfriend then drove her car to the new jersey pennsylvania border where police say the woman escaped. Peter manfredonias family issued a statement saying they love him and they want him to surrender. The families tha family believee would give it peacefully in the Connecticut State Police offered this plea. We know this is not who you are. Peter, i want you to know that we are continuing our investigation. The one thing we are missing right now is you. We want you to be able t to to tell your story. We are here to listen to you. Is a senior at the university of connecticut where he stays engineering. An attorney for the family says the 23yearold has struggled with Mental Health issues but the violence came out of nowhe nowhere. He grew up in that tone of the Sandy Hook Elementary School and 2012 mass shooting. He is reportedly associated with two charities involving sandy hook putting one that strives to end violence. Martha . Martha trace, thank you. Here are now exclusively tonight, michael dolan, the attorney for the family. Thank you for being here. You can hear the desperation in everyones voice surrounding this story, they want him to turn himself in. Has anyone had any contact with him whatsoever . I cant show that they have at any contact with him or not but right now their hearts ache and they just want to reiterate their love and support for him and their plea that he surrender and bring this to a peaceful and safe and for everybody involved. Martha so you say you cant share whether or not they had contact with him . Correct. Martha okay, we will let everyone take from that what they will. In terms of a possible motive has the families family shared anything with you about the High School Girlfriend or the car or anything that might be helpful in terms of figuring out a motive here . No, again, these are allegations but they cant explain this conduct. This is completely out of character for him. He has no history of violence, no history of criminal involvement or any contact with Law Enforcement so this completely out of character for him. And its against everything that he has stood for four years. Both publicly and privately. Martha after they think that the proximity to what happened at sandy hook had an impact on him . I mean, it was mentioned in traces story that he was involved in a charity to end violence. What has been the impact of that . I understand that he grew up on the same street as adam lanza, is that correct . I dont know if they grew up on the same street, they were neighbors at one time, i do know that. What impact it had on peter, i cant go into depth on that right now but i can tell you being in that town, you have to be in that town to understand the impact that it has had on on the entire community. You know, peter was a high schooler at the time of that incident. You know, the entire School District was in lockdown. Rumors were swirling through the schools about what had occurred. Fear reigned throughout each of the schools and shooters coming to those schools as the rumors swirled on that day. Im sure it had a dramatic effect on everyone. Martha of course. How could it not. There are pictures circulating on the internet of a room, the pictures say that it is his room with lots of scary graffiti on the wall. Can you confirm whether or not that is indeed his bedroom . I cannot confirm that. Martha last question. There are also reports that his father was arrested for Second DegreeSexual Assault and putting a childs life at risk. What can you tell me about those charges . I know nothing about those charges, i dont represent his father. Im not aware of the details of that matter. Martha you never heard about that . Ive heard about it, but i dont know anything about the allegations. Again, those are allegations. I havent talked to his father about those allegations so i have no comment about those. Martha all right, michael dolan, everyone involved wants this young man to do the right thing and turn himself in and i thank you for speaking with us tonight, the attorney who has been hired by peter manfredonias family. Geraldo, what stands out to you as you look at the case of this young man, peter manfredonia, a double major, High School Athlete who obviously by his parents own admission has had some very tough times over the past few years . It has to be a tough time, martha, when his dad was arrested for Sexual Assault at the end of april. He was a kid who is mentally unstable we are told so that couldve been a flash point. But you never know with kids, you never know what sets them off, maybe there was a girlfriend involved who is reportedly going to see a girl when he saw the first victim by random chance. He had left his motorcycle behind, he had left his motorcycle and ran into this older guy who is giving him a lift, a good samaritan. Then peter takes out a machete or a Samurai Sword and cuts up an old guy, and wins another 86yearold guy who tries to help out. Hes clearly got a screw loose if i could put it bluntly. What also strikes me is, there he is in the convenience store. I wonder why pennsylvania waited until 30 hours after the fact to release these images, because obviously it seems to me he was wearing the same clothes he was wearing for the last six days. Its ironic that with the pandemic you can get away with wearing a mask. Any other time it looks like he was robbing the convenience store. But he could be anywhere now. Hes armed and extremely dangerous, we know he stole long guns and handguns from the 70 some odd your old guy that you mentioned earlier, this is an armed and dangerous kid. He could be anywhere by now. But hes 6foot foot 3 inches, hes a big 63 guy plotting around with a knapsack and the same grungy clothes on. You know, i dont know if he has any money or if he could get to a hotel. It seems to me hes hunkering down to spend some time. Thats not far from antietam, the civil war battlefield, theres plenty of open space there for him to run to. But he cant last long on the lam it seems to me. At some point someones going to say, who is that guy . But with the mask on, it makes it a little bit more problematic. Martha as you pointed out, all the more important to get these pictures out right away as soon as they are picked out on these cameras. We showed the picture of him on the railroad tracks, everyone could see what he was wearing there and also in the convenience store. As you point out he was seen may be laying down or slipping behind a dumpster at one point and then took off into the woods and headed along the railroad tracks. Obviously theres a lot going to this persons mind at this point, he spent on the run for a while. A young man, healthy by all appearances. No, how long could he last . How long could he stay out there kind of living off the land day after day, geraldo . You know, fugitives have taken advantage of that area in the central pennsylvania Maryland Line before but hes not a surve survivalist. Its going to get chilly in the next couple days and he will get hungry and he will have to replenish his supplies at some point. If i had a home in that area i would be double locking the door tonight because this is a kid with nothing to lose. You mentioned hes a double murder allege a double murder, a kidnapper, hes got the feds after him, but he could also take his own life. Sandra lets hope not, lets hope he turns himself in. You can see people are blocking the traffic right now but its not anything that is really turning into a raucous situation as people are out in the street, its kind of got the feel of a block party right now. We saw this last night which ended with flash bangs and teargas coming out as protesters were demanding justice, demanding criminal charges against the Police Officers connected to this case. Something that may have let off a lot of the steam is a fact that at least four Police Officers that were connected to the case were dismissed rather swiftly. Agents are now investigating and you heard just a short time ago or as you announced, there was support from the president. One person who was impatient with the pace at which justice is moving in the cases the mayor of minneapolis. Why is the man who killed george floyd not in jail . If you had done it, or i had done it, we would be behind bars right now. It started as a nonviolent case, suspicion of forgery and ended with an officer kneeling on the neck of george floyd. For several minutes after the demonstrators were o or onlookee saying that he could not breat breathe. He believed the police were trying to kill him i cant breathe. They are going to kill me. A paramedic said he had no pulse when they got him in the ambulance and looking around at the life situation, it has all the feel of a block party and demonstrators say they have no plans to march. People should look at the stay at home as you mentioned, lifting and turning on solely activity, people will be able to go to parks, Outdoor Dining at restaurants and personal services added back. But we cant just go back to large gatherings until we know that we have contained a virus. Martha obviously as i mentioned it. The Nursing Homes have been of great concern. And there was a lot of discussion and weve also heard it from President Trump. We will address this by surging testing to these areas. Now i read in what you have been saying, anyone who wants a free test can get one. Is that the case . And certainly, you have we have seen those supply lines free of. We are expanding, we want to have access to free testing and we do. Martha at one of the things that weve looked at a lot with regard to the nursing home issues were, why werent some of those field hospitals utilized better when someone is diagnosed . In inner cities when you have problems where the population is dense and people are leaving in close quarters, have you tried to use some of those other options . I know there are beds at the Convention Center in washington to help sort of alleviate the pressure on homes that have a lot of People Living closely, has outworked . We have a strategy for people who test positive and it need to isolate but cant isolate at home. And all our residents need to do is contact us to be put in touch with housing officials that can help them with the housing situation. For Nursing Homes where flooding resources to them making sure that they have access to their workers and of their patience and that we can continue to do prevalence testing at Nursing Homes. It is true that too many people have been affected by a covid in Nursing Homes. I think we have learned a lot about protocols that will keep people safe including testing workers and isolating patience. Within their community, or in another safe place. Martha quickly if you can, is there anything that can be done to alleviate this problem to make it less impactful on africanamerican communities . We have to work on the Building Blocks of health and we have to work on equalizing are opportunities in our communitys. Right now we are very focused on getting information to people about testing, isolating and staying at home as much as possible so that the virus does not circulate.
