Too subsequent to that and a fifth Police Officer shot. There was a discussion about a sixth injury from the police chief and that six injury was a knee injury to the Police Officer. Karen seaman drew attention to the sacrifice and diligence of the first responders. Thank you for your selfless act, thank you for running towards gunfire and put in your lives in danger to protect those inside the business. My heart goes out to the victims and their families who simply went to work today like any other day. When you hear what was described as the s. W. A. T. Team essentially running into this enormous warehouse and gunfire, what must have seemed that point many directions. Joe it is just what the police do all the time. They train for this. They have special situations where they go in. The whole thing is to isolate and contain. When you were running in this with civilians involved, you try to minimize further injuries or loss of life. The fact that they contained them in an area, im sure they got them to an area where they possibly thought they could take him alive for ultimately end with him getting killed, but they did an excellent job with this. And you know, for the families of the victims, it is just a sad, sad day but once again the Law Enforcement shines in these moments and this is how they handle it under the greatest stress as you can imagine. Watching this afternoon as this was unfolding life, it is just enormous Law Enforcement presence that poured into that entire area. And just watching them as they move through these maneuvers, trying to get around the building and an active shooting scene. They were on the scene in 4 minutes, i understand. Just enormously quick and a good response, correct . Joe correct, this is what Law Enforcement deals with everyday. Every time this happens nationwide, and actually of course, they have forms and sit down and say how can we address this . Another Police Department will say, how would we have handle this . Honestly, they handle this as anybody could expect with the greatest results, but this is a sad thing that every time Something Like this happens, it actually becomes a learning experience for the next time. And i think this paid off because it minimized the extent of additional lives lost and people injured. Martha five people lost their lives in the warehouse today. As she said, you know, they just went to work. They were showing up at work on a normal day, and this, obviously, from the reports we were getting, he does crumble disgruntled former employee of the warehouse. But when they entered the scene, what is the protocol . What goes through training as you enter when it is so large and you really dont know which way to go . Joe well, that is the whole thing. When cops run towards the shots if shots fired at that time, i dont know if he was still firing or finished doing what he had to do. They had to find him in the warehouse. Naturally, someone will give them a brief rundown what the warehouse looks like where he went, and while containing the scene, getting everybody out, protecting everybody. But they are moving right to him, going right to the source of the danger. Like i said, it is isolate and contain a minimize any further loss of life or any other injuries. It is a sad day when five people go to work and they lose their lives and the Police Officers get injured doing this. They were training tells them, there is no hesitation here. They run right into danger. They run right into the line of fire to protect everybody else. And god bless them and everybody else of course, that does this every day. Andy well, but think, martha, they are trying to make a felony case on him so its not that big of a lake to think they want to get them out. They wanted to make a case on him. And i dont think they cared if he went to jail or not but they wanted this guy out of office. They did not want him in office in the first place, but if there was a way to get him out, that is what they were about. Martha what about bill barr and i know you think highly of him and he will have a lot on his plate. The president was saying in an easy job to run to the department of justice. But this is something you expect him to revisit . The full 2016 side of the equation that has truly not been investigated . Andy well, im hoping it is under investigation and that one of the first things he will do is try to get his arms what has been done up until now. Remember, we have been told not only that the Inspector General is looking at some of the decisions made by the investigators, but on you for the u. S. Attorney in utah was assigned also to look at some of the stuff. So i hope among the first things the attorney general bar does is get to the bottom of what has been done and figure out what has to be done Going Forward to. Because i people like me who spent a lot time in the Justice Department and who care about institutions like doj and the fbi, i think we understand that there has to be accountability here. And its got to be looked at in a credible way. If it turns out they had good reason for what they did, we should know about that, but if they didnt, there needs to be accountability for that too. Martha what you think about Rod Rosenstein because he has a twisty path through this whole story. Somehow, basically fired about five times with the leaks coming out. Manage to somehow hold onto his job, despite the fact that sometimes he seemed to want to at some point mentioned wearing a wire to pick up with the president was saying and then at other times, seem to be getting along well with him. Andy will, i think the relationships have ebbs and flows and clearly nine days in e wrote the memo that was used to justify firing james comey. And i think he expected to be widely praised for it because the way the memo is written, he talks about bipartisan consistent consensus that james comey had to go. And then it became clear in short order that he not only wasnt going to be placed, but teed up as if it were an obstruction. He suddenly needed to show to all of the people who previously thought he was still on the team. Martha tonight nine Fraternity BrothersLouisiana StateUniversity Charges from misdemeanor hazing to felony seconddegree battery. The men allegedly beat pledges with a metal pipe, attempted to burn him with cigarettes and ordered pledges to lie on broken glass. This comes on a separate incident Ohio University where extreme hazing is being blamed for the death of this 18yearold freshman who was forced to consume drugs and drink a gallon of alcohol in under an hour. Jonathan hunt has the story from the west coast newsroom tonight good evening, martha at the arrest of nine members Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity claims they were involved in hazing that included forcing pledges to lay on broken glass. On them and forcing them to stand in containers full of ice and water. The charges against the nine range from criminal hazing to felony battery. Several of those arrested are students at lsu. The university issued a statement saying, this type of behavior is unacceptable and at complete odds what we expect from our students. It does not belong at lsu. This is a sad day for the university, but one that illustrates the cultural shift occurring at lsu. While the Dk Fraternity suspended at lsu said in our ongoing Educational Programming regarding hazing, we emphasize to undergraduates that individual should and will be held accountable for their actions. We will continue our efforts to eliminate hazing wherever and whenever it occurs. Dk was founded in yellow 1844 and says its membership included five u. S. President s, including both george h. W. Bush and george w. Bush. Its website boast that known for producing outstanding gentlemen, leaders and jolly good fellows. A lawyer for the family says the fraternity attempted to cover up his death and pledges were told to make up the story. In a statement come Ohio University said their hearts go out to his family and friends and that the Sigma Pi Fraternity on a cease and desist order pending an investigation. Martha. Martha when you look at the numbers, i think 40 people have died in hazing incidents in the past ten years on College Campuses. And the deaths go on before that. When you listen to what is being done to the chung men, and i cant help but think about the rightful work that is being done on campuses to prevent Sexual Assault and me too movement and everywhere else on College Campuses, posters everywhere with phone numbers to call. Where are the phone numbers to call in the posters and the movement to stop this kind of senseless death of young men . Jonathan exactly. The reality is the antihazing statutes, some of the publicity in the past, the reality is fraternitys are a thing of the past. You put 50, 60, 70, 1822yearold boys in a house congregating together and you dont watch them you simply set them over there and say enjoy your own social status, it is a recipe for disaster. One life lost is too much. Martha absolutely. This young man according to what i learned about earlier in this case, he said to his friends as he was heading out from where they were, im going to get hazed. He got a call, time to show up at this offcampus house which is a separate building where they were doing the stuff, is that right . He was on call 24 7. Collin wiant had just gotten home from a great weekend with his family. He had connected with some of his friends. He got the call around midnight to connect with the active Fraternity Members. He was on call. In his world, he had no choice. He immediately told a friend that, here we go again. Im about to get hazed. Collin wiant was seen observed 2 00 in the morning perfectly sober and not drunk, not intoxicated and 50 minutes later as he ventured into that Fraternity House down 45 mill street, he was dead. Martha unbelievable. What do they say . What does the fraternity say . What do the socalled brothers say about why they do this to these young men and white they did this to this young man potentially come allegedly causing his death . It is a great question but the reality is, there was no redeeming value for the kinds of things that they put him through. That night, i will tell you at 2 50 a. M. In the morning a 911 call placed by one of the active members who told the 911 operator that hey, colin seems to be unresponsive and looks like he had too much to drink which is just a boldface lie. And on top of it all, within hours instead of being concerned about colin and his family, that fraternity congregated and pulled him up together and initiated all the pledges. That night it was not supposed to occur for a couple of nights but they initiated men him that might come a big meeting and talked about what happened to get the story straight. Reality is, this fraternity in particular was not really concerned about life and death. They were concerned about their own survival. Martha keep us posted on this case. There is a focus from the party on the identity politics. They lost people in country; particularly, Blue Collar Workers and blue collar americans who felt like they were left behind by the Democratic Party and they dont care about them. I dont know how when you consider obama won two terms. Its not like people were thinking that administration catered to identity politics. President trump won the diseffected workers that voted for president obama who flipped to vote for President Trump. If you look at the 2018 midterms you need to talk about the gender politics and the racial politics to rev up the base that want people in washington to reflect people in america.
